Hope: Oh, my God. When I think of how close I... I came to being murdered.
Bo: No, no, no. That is not gonna happen.
[Knock on door]
Warden Smith: Open up, police.
Lexie: Dr. Jonas, for the record, please. Did Dr. Manning take a DNA sample from you under false pretense so that she could perform a paternity test?
Daniel: All I know is that she arranged the test. St. Mary's already established that as fact. And she didn't have my permission.
Lexie: Okay, Dr. Jonas. I want you to answer this very carefully. Do you know how Dr. Manning obtained your DNA?
Nathan: I know you're upset about your mom facing the committee at the hospital. And there's no way you're over what Philip did. But... hey, there's something else. Mel. Come on. Listen, I care about you so much. And I want to know what's bugging you. I want to help. Please, just tell me.
Melanie: Nathan, I'm...not...
Nathan: Are you--hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Sami: You looked so great in your new skates.
Rafe: You sure did. You looked awesome out there.
Sami: Pull, pull, pull! Ah, there we go. The other one. There you go.
Rafe: All right.
Sami: Thank you. How about some hot chocolate? Does that sound good?
Sami: You can get all warmed up for your lesson with Mrs. Carson.
Rafe: You know what? We've gotta do this again. Like, real soon.
Allie: Can Johnny come tomorrow?
Sami: I don't think so, sweetie.
Allie: When will Johnny get better?
Sami: I don't know, but soon. And he's gonna be fine, sweetheart. He's gonna be just fine.
Dr. Kim: The cancer has spread to Johnny's other eye. I'm very sorry.
EJ: [Clears throat] That doesn't make any sense. You examined his eye a couple of days ago. You told me that it was cancer free.
Dr. Kim: I know, but at the time--
EJ: You know, at the time? I mean, it takes my fiancÚ, a layperson, to see something?
Dr. Kim: Mr. DiMera.
EJ: Huh? No, I mean, you... you told me that everything was fine, all right? You told me that everything was fine! You told me everything was fine!
Nicole: No, no, no, no!
EJ: All right!
Nicole: Stop, stop it!
Dr. Kim: Mr. DiMera!
Warden Smith: Why do you two look so surprised? I told you I'd get you, hope. [Chuckling] Here I am. Well, this is what I call criminal justice. Are you ready for what you got coming?
Hope: Oh, no! Aah! What? Bo?
Bo: Hey, you okay?
Hope: You, I...
Bo: Take it easy, take it easy. What?
Hope: The warden, the--
Bo: What happened? What?
Hope: She--she found us here. You died. Because of me.
Bo: No, no, no. That is not gonna happen. That was just a nightmare. In fact, today is going to be a very, very, good day. 'Cause I figured out a way to make warden smith pay for what she's done. Okay? It's okay. It's gonna be okay.
Jennifer: Yes, warden. I know I'm not scheduled to work today, but I was wondering if I could come in anyway. There's some filing that I didn't get done yesterday that I really need to do.
Warden Smith: No, that's not necessary. You can handle it next time.
Jennifer: Uh, well... actually, this is probably a little bit embarrassing. But I could use the extra hours.
Warden Smith: I'm sure you could, but the answer is still the same. I'll be out of the office a good deal today. And I always want to be here to supervise.
Jennifer: Oh, okay. I understand. I'll see you tomorrow. Bye-bye. Out of the office. Perfect.
Rafe: Hey, Johnny is going to be home with us soon. I promise, okay?
Sami: As soon as we figure out how to handle EJ.
Nicole: EJ, EJ! For God's sake, let go, let go!
Dr. Kim: Mr. DiMera!
Nicole: Stop, this isn't helping Johnny.
EJ: My son needs a physician who is competent.
Nicole: Okay, just listen. Look at me, okay? You can't do this. Johnny needs the doctor's help.
EJ: He needs a doctor's help, he just doesn't need this doctor's help!
Dr. Kim: Mr. DiMera, I understand why you are upset. But you need to understand. When we conducted the last test, there was no spot on the second eye. None. The film confirms that.
EJ: So, what? This thing just suddenly appeared?
Dr. Kim: Look, I need to do more tests. But the very rapid growth would indicate that the cancer is extremely aggressive.
EJ: Oh, my God.
Dr. Kim: Right now, I need your permission to sedate Johnny again. Exactly as we did before. So I can conduct the necessary tests. Now if you want to change doctors, that will take some time. Perhaps a day. I don't know if we have that time.
Nicole: EJ. You're doing the right thing. Johnny needs those tests right away.
EJ: I know. He'll have everything he needs. What? What's the matter?
Dr. Kim: Nothing now. Johnny's comfortable, he'll be asleep soon. But, um...
EJ: But...but, what?
Dr. Kim: He's asking for his mother.
Nicole: Thank you, Doctor. We'll make sure she's there when he wakes up. EJ, we have to involve Sami.
EJ: We don't. And we won't.
Jennifer: Oh, Will. Hey.
Will: Hi, Jennifer. Hi.
Jennifer: Big test coming up?
Will: Yes. But hey, I'm an expert on the reproductive system. Have a seat.
Jennifer: Okay. I'm not even gonna touch that one.
Will: Oh...no, no, no. That's not what it sounded like. I was talking about frogs.
Jennifer: Even better. Anyway, how are things going with you?
Jennifer: Good. How's Johnny?
Will: He's good. I mean, I guess. Mom doesn't get to really see him, so...
Jennifer: I'm, uh, sorry to hear about that. But anyway, you know what? I just came in for a cup of coffee, and it looks like you have a certain someone that you might need to talk to.
Will: Oh, um, that's Gabi.
Gabi: Okay. We're here. How long do you want to keep this up?
Cory: Well, anything combustible in this place? We'd better check.
Gabi: [Laughing] Stop.
Cory: You stop it. We're gonna be outlaws.
Gabi: [Laughing] Oh!
Nathan: Hey, are you okay?
Melanie: I'm fine. I'm fine, I'm okay.
Nathan: No, hey. Come sit.
Melanie: I don't need-- Nathan, I don't need to sit. I just--I didn't eat today. I wasn't hungry, I didn't have breakfast or lunch. I've also been under a little bit of stress. I'm joking. I still have my sense of humor.
Nathan: I got that. Well, you need food or carbs more than you need jokes right now, okay? Can we just get you some orange juice or something, please?
Melanie: Nathan, I'm a nurse. I think I would know if something was wrong. Okay? I gotta go.
Nathan: Why won't you talk to me?
Melanie: What do you think I'm doing right now?
Nathan: Okay, let me rephrase that. Why won't you look me in the eye... when you talk to me? Thank you. Can we just get some of this stuff out in the open? Look, I know you've been through hell, and we have to look on the bright side. There are some good things that have come from this. Right? You're free. I'm free. I mean, there's no reason that we can't be together.
Melanie: Yeah, there is.
Lexie: Dr. Jonas, do you need a moment to reflect? I mean, it's a simple question. Do you know how Dr. Manning obtained your DNA?
Carly: Okay, there you go. You're all done.
Daniel: How she obtained my DNA? With certainty? No, I cannot say with any certainty how she got the DNA she used for that test.
Hope: [Sighs] I think I got up too fast. How do you know there's going to be a meeting? What kind of a meeting?
Bo: I was able to get into the department of corrections' internal website.
Hope: Were you able to access their email server?
Bo: It took some time, but eventually I was reading all the emails from a certain J. Smith at salemdoc.net.
Hope: Aren't you the geek?
Bo: Yeah, not really. That package that Leo dropped off, software package, helped out a lot.
Hope: What did you find out?
Bo: There wasn't anything incriminating in the emails themselves. You know, nothing about why all those women died. But...
Hope: I like the sound of that.
Bo: Whatever the warden's hiding, whatever she didn't want you to find out... we're gonna find out today.
Hope: Because she's seeking a meeting?
Bo: Not a conference table in the office kind of a meeting. You know that second phone that she has in her name?
Bo: Someone texted her a message about when and where this secret meeting is gonna be. Guess who's gonna join them? So if this meeting gives us what we need on Warden Jane Smith, we'll be able to negotiate from a position of strength.
Hope: Yeah. And if she is behind all those women dying, they'll have a pretty hard time prosecuting us for the breakout.
Bo: Aw, the breakout was self-defense. We suspected that you were the next victim, so we did what we had to do. D.A. will have to cut us a deal.
Hope: Let's hope so.
Bo: Now, I'm outta here. I got a meeting to go to. You stay here, don't let anyone see you.
Hope: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What are you talking about? I'm not staying here on the boat. I'm coming with you.
Jennifer: You know what? I just realized there's something that I need to take care of. So I'm gonna go. It was great seeing you.
Will: Oh, you too.
Jennifer: Good luck on the reproductive system test.
Will: Oh, thank you. Thank you, see ya.
Jennifer: Bye, Will.
Cory: This just makes you a blend of espresso and decaf.
Cory: [Imitates explosion]
Ben: Ooh! I'm sorry.
Jennifer: Oh, hey!
Ben: I didn't even see you there. Maybe I should look where I'm going.
Jennifer: No, that's okay. Bad day?
Ben: Yeah, yeah. Sort of. But it just got better.
Gabi: Hey. You set for that biology quiz?
Will: I guess.
[Cell phone ringing]
Cory: Oh...gotta go.
Gabi: I swear, that guy spends more of his time on the phone than anyone in the school. I'm glad he's smart, 'cause then he'd be flunking everything. It's like he wants to be the first guy in school to get carpal tunnel from texting. If I'd spent all that time on the phone, then I'd probably... Will? What's the matter? Oh, my God. Are you jealous of Cory?
Sami: Guess what? Mrs. Carson said that Allie is showing real potential at the piano.
Rafe: That's great. You know, they say that learning to play the piano raises your I.Q. So that's good, even if she's not a member of the philharmonic.
Sami: [Chuckling] Too bad Mrs. Carson also brought up Johnny. Wondering when he'll be back. It got Allie all upset. It took me a while before I could calm her down so I could leave.
Rafe: Yeah, well, how about you? You calm yet?
Sami: No. No, I'm not. I can't stand the idea of Nicole being a mother to Johnny. Or Sydney.
Rafe: So EJ and Nicole are really getting married this afternoon?
Sami: It's not gonna make her a mother to my children.
Rafe: No, it's not. Of course it's not. Sami, listen to me. I'm telling you, I'm gonna find an answer in these files. I'm gonna dig up one of EJ's crimes. He's gonna pay for something. And you know what that means. That means that we're gonna get Johnny and Sydney back. Trust in that, okay? Okay?
EJ: Look, Nicole. We don't even know what is wrong with Johnny right now, okay? We just have one doctor's opinion.
Nicole: He said that the cancer is back.
EJ: Okay, but we haven't got the test results yet, have we? So... look, I'm sorry. I do not want Samantha coming down here and hijacking everybody's time and energy with her incessant drama.
Nicole: EJ, you know how I feel about that woman. I mean, the last time we were here I wanted to rip her head off. Look, the point is... Johnny wants his mother. And if he does have to have eye surgery, do you really want him facing it without holding both his parents' hands? EJ, I know the idea of having Sami here crying her eyes out, acting all pitiful-- nobody wants it. Especially since you think it could turn out to be nothing.
EJ: You don't think it's nothing, do you?
Nicole: Not if Dr. Kim says that... you know what, EJ? It doesn't matter what I think. I am worried about Johnny just like you are. And you want him to feel good about things, right? You want him to feel safe and secure?
Bo: Whoa, whoa, whoa. No way you're coming to this meeting.
Hope: Think again.
Bo: This is not up for discussion.
Hope: You're right, it's not up for discussion.
Bo: Aw, man.
Hope: What's the first thing you learn at the academy? Never enter a dangerous situation without backup.
Bo: Yeah, well, I was never a good student. If I get caught--which I'm not planning on--but if I get caught, I'm useless to the warden without you.
Hope: It's too dangerous for you to go in without backup.
Bo: Tell me something, detective. What happens in the first two minutes, if you and I get caught? Right. Uh, we're dead because of some mysterious shootout where there's no witnesses. So, like I said, I'll handle this meeting on my own. Okay?
Bo: Okay. I'll be back soon. And we'll iron out this whole mess. That's my promise to you.
Hope: You can't promise me that.
Bo: I just did.
Hope: Don't do anything stupid. Be careful. Clear? Careful.
Bo: Yeah. I'll be careful.
Nathan: What do you mean? I mean, why can't we be together?
Melanie: Look, maybe if things were different...
Nathan: How? What are you saying? I don't-- I mean, when I mean together, I mean, like, we can't even hang out? We're not friends?
Melanie: Go to Baltimore. Okay? Go take that fellowship at Johns Hopkins and be amazing. And live your life. And forget about me.
Kayla: Why are you protecting her?
Daniel: This is an official hearing, on the record. I have no proof.
Lexie: Dr. Johnson!
Kayla: No, you know, I interviewed Sister Anne at St. Mary's. You were there the day that the paternity test was taken.
Daniel: Yes, I was. But she would have had to have had my DNA before that.
Kayla: You were talking to Carly. She was telling you some bogus story about a patient that she had--
Daniel: The question was did I know how she obtained the DNA. Not if I was there or not that day.
Kayla: That is hogwash!
Lexie: Okay, Dr. Johnson. This committee is interviewing Dr. Jonas. You'll have your chance to speak. Please sit down.
Kayla: But he's lying.
Daniel: Well, if Dr. Johnson has proof of that, I'd like to hear it right now.
Kayla: Of course, I don't have proof. But everybody in this room knows that you are covering up.
Daniel: In your opinion, Kayla. But I will add that Carly, Dr. Manning, has a habit of going off on her own. Making unilateral decisions that affect other people. Intervening in their lives and not telling anyone about it. Let alone consulting me. She's done it to me, my daughter, and to others. It is a pattern.
Lexie: Thank you, Dr. Jonas. But the purpose of this hearing is to establish certain facts. If your testimony is that you don't know how Dr. Manning obtained your DNA, then that's all there is.
Kayla: No, no. It isn't. Excuse me, I'm sorry, but could I just have--could I just have a minute with this? Can I just say something?
Lexie: Go ahead.
Kayla: Okay. I know that I am not the chief of staff here anymore. That is your job, Lexie. But what I do know is that my mother is under house arrest because she exposed something that Carly Manning was directly involved in. My daughter's relationship is completely in tatters because of information that Carly was covering up. And my brother Bo, who she was living with, is now on the run. And he's accused of a multitude of crimes. You know what? It seems to me that my entire family is falling apart, and all this board cares about is whether that DNA sample was taken legally.
Lexie: Kayla, our mandate is to establish whether or not Dr. Manning committed an ethical violation and whether or not she gets to keep her license.
Kayla: Oh, isn't that just great. Okay, fine. You know what? I used to admire Carly. When she first came to town, I really--I thought she was something, you know? She moved in with Bo, he was alone and she helped raise his son. And she was a friend to me. Well, now I wish she never came back to town.
[Knocking on door]
Sami: Oh, fantastic. I was just longing to see the bride and groom today. Yes, that's so wonderful. Thank you for answering my prayers. And I'm happy to see that the bride came along, you know, with. To make sure. 'Cause she doesn't trust him to be by himself for two seconds. You know what, though? Um, what did you do with Johnny and Sydney? Did you leave them with their loving grandfather? Oh, I love that. Stefano's such a good influence.
EJ: Samantha... shut up.
Sami: No, you shut up. In fact, why don't you two both get lost.
EJ: Fine, I tried. No, I tried!
Sami: Bye-bye. Enjoy your miserable lives.
Nicole: Sami. Wait, wait, wait, wait. You really need to hear what we have to say.
Carly: Uh, I'm not sure how many ways I can say that I'm sorry that this happened. What I did was wrong. No matter how much I thought it was right at the time. But if the test results hadn't been switched, if I had known that Daniel wasn't the father, I would have told the truth immediately. And then he wouldn't have bonded with the baby that he thought was his son. I know what it's like to give up a child. And I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone.
Lexie: Do you have anything further to add?
Carly: Yes, thank you. Kayla... I'm sorry for what is happening with your mother and your daughter. And God knows I hate the trouble that Bo is in. Okay, I want to thank you, Lexie, for making this a fair hearing. And whatever you and the committee decide, I just want you to know that it's been a pleasure working here.
Lexie: Dr. Jonas. Anything further? Dr. Johnson?
Lexie: In that case, this matter is open and shut. Lacking proof of malpractice or any ethical violations, there are no tangible grounds on which to recommend to the AMA that Dr. Manning's license be suspended or to revoke her privileges here at University Hospital. This case is closed.
Jennifer: No, I insist. It is my treat this time.
Ben: Well, if I had known that, I'd have ordered a whole meal.
Jennifer: Well, then you just go on ahead.
Jennifer: Uh, this may sound funny, but I noticed that you weren't wearing your walkabout bracelet anymore.
Ben: Uh, yeah. Yeah. Well, I knew it was nothing but a bad reminder for you. And since I was hoping to maybe see you again sometime...
Jennifer: Wow, that's really nice.
Ben: Well, I did it partly for me, too. All that "finding myself" stuff is... it's over. I know who I am. And I know what I want.
[Cell phone ringing]
Ben: I'd better go.
Bo: It's best if you stay inside so no one sees you. Okay?
Hope: I will. Good luck.
Bo: Yeah, thanks.
Hope: I know we're both hoping for the best here. We get the evidence and make things right for you. Who knows? Maybe for me too.
Bo: What are you talking about? Definitely for you too.
Hope: I also want you to know that, well, the last few days-- I'm a little tongue-tied... certainly haven't been easy. But, um, they've been a heck of a lot better because you were with me. Thank you. Thank you. Be safe, okay? You have a little girl to come home to.
Bo: Yeah. You be safe, too. See you soon, Fancy Face.
Will: No, why would I be jealous? It's fine, it's totally fine.
Gabi: Will, Cory and I were just joking around. We're partners in A.P. Chem. We almost blew up the lab. Mr. Sinder had to separate us for, like, the rest of the year. We were just joking around about that. And how he wants to do everything on the phone. Are you okay?
Will: Are we?
Gabi: Look, I know you've had a rough time lately. And I wouldn't do anything to hurt you. Come on, don't make this into something it's not, please?
Nicole: Can we please just come inside and talk?
Sami: Of course you can! I can't believe I didn't invite you sooner. Come in! Let's have a party! Let's do an Irish jig! Or a Mexican hat dance! You know, cha cha cha! Oh...no? Well, don't gloat, that's all I'm asking. 'Cause you know, I have to take Allie back from her piano class. And I don't want there to be blood on my hands. It's sort of embarrassing.
Nicole: Look, EJ and I are not getting married today.
Sami: Really? [Pretending to cry] Rafe, did you hear that? They're not getting married today.
Sami: I'm so sad. Did you fall out of love?
Kayla: Letting you keep your license? Okay. Fine. That works for me. But continuing to practice here at University while my mother is under house arrest and may go to jail? Excuse me. But that's a little hard to swallow.
Carly: Kayla, I know you want me to leave Salem.
Kayla: Yeah, and go anywhere else.
Carly: It's not gonna happen. My daughter is here.
Kayla: Oh, right. Melanie. Do you really think she's gonna forgive you for what you just did?
Nathan: Actually, that thing at Hopkins...I'm gonna have to think about it.
Melanie: Why? It's such a great opportunity.
Nathan: Yeah, well, things have changed. A lot.
Melanie: Not that much has changed. Please don't throw away a big chance because things between you and me are...
[Cell phone ringing]
Melanie: Are nonexistent.
Nathan: Oh, sorry. Dr. Gomez has been blowing me up all day. Oh, my God.
Nathan: Carly walked. Your dad decided not to incriminate her.
Melanie: Why would he do that?
Nathan: I don't know. Obviously...
Nathan: Obviously he forgave her. Or at least he's trying to. If he can...who knows?
Melanie: I've gotta go.
Nathan: Well...well, hold on. Are you okay?
Melanie: I will be.
Sami: [Pretending to cry] It's just so tragic.
EJ: You can wipe that smug smile off your face.
Sami: What happened? I'm dying to know the details. Did one of you get cold feet? Or did you just both realize you can only tell yourself so many lies?
EJ: Would you just shut up, Samantha? And listen.
Sami: Okay. Whatever.
EJ: We just came from the hospital. And we left Johnny there. He has to have some tests.
Sami: What are you talking about? Johnny already had all the tests he needs. Right?
EJ: Apparently... the doctor said... [Sighs]
Nicole: It looks as though the cancer has spread to the other eye.
Warden Smith: This has to be a priority. Today, tomorrow, every day. State police know that. But so far we've come up dry. I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous this could be for everyone concerned. It's not just my butt on the line here. There's you, people connected to us...
Carly: I wanted to at least say thank you.
Daniel: You're gonna be under a microscope around here for a long time. You better start doing things by the book. I don't want to regret what I just did here.
Carly: You won't. Ever.
Lexie: Oh, Carly. Um, I need to speak with you.
Lexie: You performed surgeries using the Wallinger method when you were in Europe, didn't you?
Carly: Yeah, several. I mean, it requires a special technique, but the results are amazing. I hear we just acquired one.
Lexie: Yeah, um, I need someone to assist in that particular surgery. Right away. Will you do it?
Will: I'm sorry, I was. I was, kind of--I was a jerk at the pub.
Gabi: Stop apologizing. I get it, okay?
Will: Well, at least I got your attention, right?
Ben: Hi. You know, I'm sorry. I just realized that I walked out without even saying goodbye. So do I still get my free coffee?
Jennifer: Uh, yes. Yes, of course. What happened?
Ben: Uh, actually it was just a false alarm.
Jennifer: Oh, I mean, I'm sure when you're involved in transplant surgery you must get emergency calls all day long.
[Cell phone ringing]
Ben: Speaking of which.
Jennifer: And there you go.
Ben: I don't know. Should I ignore it?
Jennifer: No, no, no. Of course not. You shouldn't.
[Phone continues ringing]
Jennifer: That's--isn't that the prefix for the prison?
Warden Smith: Can someone explain to me how Bo Brady found his way out here? Never mind, I don't care. The question now is, what do we do with him?
Sami: Lexie, Lexie!
Lexie: Oh, Sami. I'm glad EJ got ahold of you.
Sami: They told me that the cancer has spread to his other eye?
Lexie: I'm afraid the cancer has definitely spread to Johnny's other eye.
Sami: Oh, my God.
Dr. Kim: It's what I warned about before the last surgery. I wish I had better news, but retinoblastoma has a high incidence of invading both eyes.
Daniel: You know, I think the key right now is that we stop it before it spreads to the rest of his body.
Lexie: Here's what's going to happen. Dr. Kim will perform the surgery with Dr. Jonas, just as before. But this time it will be a little more difficult. So Dr. Manning will apply a laser technique that's shown tremendous success.
EJ: Whoa, stop for a second. Lexie, I'm sorry. What is more complicated? Why do we need another surgeon? You're worse?
Melanie: What are my options?
Sami: I don't understand why this one's more complicated. Is that why the cancer spread, because of the surgery you did last time?
Dr. Kim: No, absolutely not.
Sami: Well, then what is it? Why is this one worse?
Carly: It's not worse, it's just that in order to save the eye, it requires precise maneuvers with a laser.
Lexie: The main thing is to get the cancer before it has a chance to spread.
Sami: I get that, Lexie. But this is the only eye he has left! I want to know why you didn't see this before, why you didn't catch it sooner!
Daniel: Okay, okay. Retinoblastoma is a very aggressive cancer. Now during the previous surgery, Dr. Kim and I both agreed that it hadn't spread. But the x-rays have proven us wrong.
Sami: What if you don't get it all this time?
Lexie: Okay, Sami. Sami. There are so many variables. Let's not speculate, okay?
Sami: But I promised him that was the only surgery, Lexie. I mean, I told him he would still be able to see. I mean, I... [Crying] Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
[Cell phone ringing]
Ben: Uh, yeah. Actually, that is the prefix for the department of corrections.
Jennifer: Oh. Why are they calling you?
Ben: Uh...well, I signed up to volunteer down at the prison infirmary, so I'm sure they're calling me to find out when I'll be able to start. I'll call them back later.
Jennifer: Volunteering at the prison infirmary?
Jennifer: Wow. That's a really nice thing to do.
Ben: Some days.
Hope: Come on, Bo. What's taking you so long?
Warden Smith: Idiot. Guess you underestimated who you're dealing with, huh?
Bo: Who's there?
Warden Smith: Your wife's worst nightmare.
On the next "Days of Our Lives" --
Hope: Oh, my God. She's got Bo.
Rafe: Can I get you anything?
Sami: How about a miracle?
