Philip: Hi. Come on in.
Philip: I called you because I have something for the baby. Something maybe Daniel should know about.
Chloe: Philip, if Daniel can't know about it, then I don't want to --
Philip: When you know what it is, I think you'll change your mind.
Melanie: Hi. Oh.
Melanie: Is it too early?
Daniel: No, no, it's fine, if you don't mind the spit-up-on look.
Melanie: Did you spit up on Daddy? Good for you. Come on. Is Chloe sleeping?
Daniel: Uh, no, no, no. She's out right now. Giving her a little breather.
Melanie: Oh, hi. Look at y--oh, you sweet thing. You are getting big, which I guess is good, because soon you're gonna be Uncle Parker.
Daniel: Wait, no, you--you're not, uh...
Melanie: Oh, no, no, no, no, not yet.
Daniel: Yet? Well, are you trying to get pregnant?
Melanie: No. I mean, no. Uh, we just stopped trying not to.
Daniel: So you're not using any--any--anything.
Melanie: Uh, you know, I don't--I don't want to talk about this with my Father.
Daniel: Okay, hey, uh, but, sweetie, um, having a baby is a lifetime commitment.
Melanie: Is it?
Daniel: Yes, it is. And is Philip in on this-- this plan?
Melanie: Yes, it was his idea.
Melanie: He's ready to be a father.
Daniel: Oh, okay, good. That's good, because, uh...
Melanie: Because what?
Daniel: Well, he sure blew it the first time around, so...
Melanie: Okay. Parker, do you want to get Daddy to change the subject, because all of a sudden, this visit hasn't gotten off to a very good start.
Stephanie: So I've decided that I am not going to tell Nathan about Philip being the father of Chloe's baby.
Caroline: Well, finally.
Stephanie: I am not 100% sure that it is the right thing to do, but I have to protect you.
Caroline: So you're doing this for me?
Stephanie: Part of the reason. And also I can't do anything to rock the boat with Nathan and me. I just can't.
Rafe: Whoa. What's goin' on here?
Sami: Sorry. Just wrapping presents and... [Sighs] looking at Sydney's present, it just made me, you know, sad, so I decided I was sick of being sad, so I'm gonna get angry instead, and I...
Rafe: Yeah, on a poor, defenseless Christmas ornament.
Sami: Well, I'm sorry. I'm having a little trouble getting in the holiday spirit.
Rafe: No, I like it. It's good. I like mad. It's better than sad.
Rafe: Yeah, it's more optimistic. Better you're throwing Christmas ornaments than throwing in the towel.
Sami: I can only even hold onto it for a little bit, you know? I mean, I can be mad, but then I just... I get sad again. And I keep worrying that, you know, this Christmas is this hard for me, how hard it must be for Johnny. [Pats arm]
EJ: So when I was a little boy, used to get my presents on boxing day, not Christmas Day. You're not gonna look at me? Well, it doesn't matter if you don't look at me or if you don't talk to me, because I still love you very, very much.
Johnny: No, you don't. You hate me.
EJ: That's not true.
Johnny: Why won't you let me see my mommy?
EJ: Look, I don't--
Johnny: Don't touch me!
Lexie: Hi! Look who's here, Theo. Hi, sweetheart. Hi.
Abe: Mmm. They told me I'd find the two of you here. So what's Theo doing here? Is he sick?
Lexie: No. No, he needed a booster on his measles vaccine, and the pediatrician's office only stocked the combination shot.
Abe: Have they forgotten he's on the spectrum?
Lexie: That will not happen again, trust me. So I just gave him the shot myself.
Lexie: Sweetheart, you want to show Daddy your surprise?
Abe: Oh, you have a surprise for me, huh? Yeah? Oh, a new book. Want me to read it to you?
Lexie: No, no. No, he doesn't.
Theo: "I can't find my cat." "Where can my cat be?"
Abe: He's reading.
EJ: Look, Johnny, I know you're not very happy this morning, but you're going to feel better soon because Lexie and Theo are coming round, and they're going to take you to see Father Christmas.
Johnny: His name is Santa, stupid!
EJ: Don't use that word with me, Johnny.
Johnny: I don't care!
EJ: Oh, I think you do care, because I found this-- this list of all the things you want from him and this really pretty drawing with you and Allie and Will and Sydney.
Johnny: And Mommy and Rafe.
EJ: [Sighs] Yeah, and Mommy and Rafe. It's a really-- it's a really good drawing. I wish that I was in this picture.
Johnny: No, you can't be.
EJ: Well... Johnny.
Rafe: Mmm. Whoa whoa whoa whoa. Hold on there, cowgirl.
Rafe: I gotta go to work.
Sami: What? Right now?
Rafe: I'd love to stay and play. Yes, right now.
Sami: All right, let me fix you up here. Okay. Go get 'em, cowboy. I mean, detective.
Rafe: That's right. Listen. You know, it's a new gig, so I'm gonna be working a lot. But we're gonna have a great Christmas.
Sami: I'm so proud of you. I'll be fine. Go.
Rafe: Hey, stay mad. And take it easy on my tree.
Sami: What do you mean? I fixed it.
[Cell phone ringing]
Sami: We wish you a Merry Christmas and a ha-- EJ.
EJ: Samantha, I need to see you right away.
Daniel: You know what, sweetheart, um, all I was trying to say is that you and Philip, you really haven't been married that long.
Melanie: Longer than you and Chloe.
Daniel: Well, yeah, yeah. But when Chloe was pregnant, we both knew, we were absolutely sure that's what we wanted. And it's a good thing, because that little guy right there, he runs our life now.
Melanie: Yeah, and you love it.
Daniel: No, I do. I do, but I was ready to say good-bye to date nights and staying up late, and these just random flights to Tahiti. Are you sure that's where you and Philip are?
Daniel: Okay. Okay, well, what about your career? What about that? Are you ready to be torn between your love for nursing and your love for this baby?
Melanie: I can handle them both.
Daniel: Okay, look at me. Look at me. What is it? What is going on? Huh? Why, all of a sudden, are you in a rush to have a baby?
Caroline: You told Nathan you had something very important to say to him. And you didn't tell him about Philip and Chloe?
Stephanie: No. I just told him I wanted to get married as soon as possible.
Caroline: And he bought that?
Stephanie: Yep. He loved the idea. I thought you'd be happy for me.
Caroline: Uh, I am. I am. But if you get married, nothing will stop your Mother from coming back to Salem.
Stephanie: And she will be wondering why I didn't tell everyone the truth.
Caroline: Well, don't you think that's some kind of problem?
Nathan: Oh, what-- what's some kind of problem?
Abe: [Laughing] You read that whole book. Hey, it's cool how the boy finds out why the cat is missing. It--it's the last page of the book. She's got kittens.
Lexie: Sweetheart, you just read how sometimes mama cats hide when they're about to have babies, remember?
Theo: Cats? Babies?
Abe: It's, uh... it's what happened in the book, Theo.
Lexie: Um, look, uh, we better get going. We don't want you to miss your bus. Say good-bye to Daddy.
Theo: Bye-bye, Daddy.
Abe: Hey, my son, come here you. Oh, you did a great job reading that book. Mom and I are so proud of you. [Laughs]
Lexie: Okay, let's go. Um, I'll be right back. Would you mind waiting for me?
Abe: Well, sure.
Lexie: Okay. Come on, sweetheart.
Sami: All right, so Sydney and Johnny are okay.
EJ: Physically, they are fine.
Sami: Okay, well, then?
EJ: Johnny had a bit of a rough night. Nightmares, tantrums.
EJ: This morning, he was, uh, very recalcitrant.
Sami: Good for him.
EJ: He wants to see his Mother. Actually, he was, uh, begging to see his Mother.
Sami: Well, you called me. That's exactly the right thing to do.
EJ: Uh, well, just not so fast, Samantha. Maybe I will let you see him.
EJ: Maybe. But you and I need to get a couple of things straight first.
Philip: Seeing Parker, seeing how happy he makes you and Daniel, it kind of got to both of us.
Chloe: That's really nice. Thank God everything turned out the way it did.
Philip: Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, I was going through these boxes from high school, and I found this.
Chloe: Oh, my gosh. Are you kidding? The song that I wrote to Joy. You still have this?
Philip: Mm-hmm. Yeah. When you were so sick and we weren't sure if you were gonna be able to find a bone marrow donor.
Chloe: I'd forgotten all about this.
Philip: You remember you told me to hold onto it in case you, uh...
Chloe: Yeah. In case I didn't live long enough to sing it to my baby sister.
Philip: Anyway, you got better, and we broke up. Anyway, you know, I found it, and I thought you might want to sing it to Parker.
Chloe: Thank you. Thank you so much for this, and thank you for being the first boy who ever looked at me twice.
Philip: Take the glasses off.
Chloe: Will I get them back?
Philip: Yes, you'll get them back. Unreal.
Chloe: Something wrong?
Philip: Uh... I just don't see why anybody would want to hide eyes like that.
Chloe: You know, uh, you're the first person I ever really loved.
Philip: [Laughs] I blew that, didn't I?
Chloe: Yeah, well, I did, too. But the important thing is, even after all of that, we are still friends, and you're the type of friend who would hold onto this for me. So thank you for that. Thank you for being a part of my life.
Philip: I'm glad you're a part of my life. Come here.
Abe: Oh. Got on the bus, okay?
Lexie: Yeah. So he's... he's reading sentences, but he's not understanding what he's reading.
Abe: Well, honey, it's still progress.
Lexie: Yeah, I know. I know, and I am so grateful for every advance he makes. I just...I... [Sighs] I don't know. I was with his friend Charlie and his mom the other day. I mean, Charlie's already on chapter books.
Abe: You know, kids read when they're ready, even kids that aren't autistic.
Lexie: Yeah, I know, I know, I know, I know. Okay, I... sorry.
Abe: It's--it's okay. It's all right. Hey, um, how was Sami?
Abe: Well, you said you-- you saw Johnny. I was just wondering how Sami was doing.
Lexie: Oh, I--I didn't tell you.
Abe: Tell me what?
Lexie: Um, I saw Johnny at my Father's house. Sami gave E.J. full custody of Johnny and Sydney.
Abe: Why in God's name would she do something like that?
Lexie: She wouldn't, not unless E.J. has some sort of leverage over her.
Abe: Yeah. You're right.
EJ: It's just so like you to want to go barging into a situation without any real appreciation of the circumstances.
Sami: My son is not a situation. And, actually, I'm pretty clear on the circumstances. You're torturing him.
EJ: Stop it.
Sami: You think that this house makes a difference? You can throw servants at him and toys at him all you want, but you're keeping him from his mother, and that is torture.
EJ: I think you need to leave.
EJ: No? Then behave. Otherwise, you and I go straight down to the police station, we show them your little video confession. I'm sure we can find somebody there whose last name isn't Brady.
Sami: Look, E.J., you're the one who called me here, because our son is upset, and you know he needs his mother.
EJ: What our son needs is, uh, closure. That is what you are going to give him.
Sami: Closure? What are you, a therapist now?
EJ: Let me, um... let me explain this to you in a way that you can understand. You are going to go and tell our son that you don't love him anymore.
Stephanie: Hi. Um, I was just telling my Grandma about an email I got from my mom and dad.
Caroline: Oh, right.
Nathan: Well, what did they have to say?
Stephanie: Well, now that my dad's better, they've been assigned to a place in Zanzibar, and I don't know how long they're gonna be there, and they definitely can't contact us for a while.
Caroline: Well, what about your wedding?
Nathan: We'll have to put it off for a while until they can be here, I guess, right?
Stephanie: No, I don't want to wait.
Nathan: Well, we can't get married without your parents, Steph. Why wouldn't we wait?
Caroline: Will. How about I fix you some breakfast, dear?
Will: Oh, uh, thank you. Um, but, actually, I didn't come here to eat. I came to see Gabi.
Bo: Hey, Abe.
Abe: You want to tell me when the hell you were gonna tell me?
Bo: Tell you what?
Abe: What's going on between Sami and E.J. That we have an attempted murderer walking the streets of Salem, police are doing nothing.
Abe: No, this is-- it's just too much, Bo. Now, you took a damn oath, and it's your professional and moral duty to find out what happened. And if Sami did shoot E.J., it's your professional and moral duty to bring her in. So the question is, you want to keep your job or not?
Victor: Oh, you here to kick Nicole around some more? I like it when we team up to kick Nicole around.
Rafe: Aren't you gonna ask why I am here?
Victor: Oh, I'm sure you're gonna tell me.
Rafe: Good point. Well, I'm signing on to the Salem Police Department.
Rafe: As detective.
Victor: Well. And you want me to buy tickets to the P&B Ball?
Rafe: I don't have my badge yet.
Victor: Ah. And that would interest me because?
Rafe: Well, before I sign on, want to offer you a deal.
Victor: You know, stopping by my house to offer me a deal when you're on your way to joining the Salem Police Department, some people might question your devotion to the rule of law.
Rafe: Yeah, but this deal's only gonna help me do a better job.
Victor: And just what does this deal entail?
Rafe: Well, we both have a common enemy. E.J. DiMera.
Victor: We've patched things up. We're good now.
Rafe: I'm not wearing a wire.
Victor: And I'm supposed to take your word for that?
Rafe: Well, what I say next will prove it. I want that son of a bitch out of my wife's life... permanently.
Sami: E.J., you want me to tell my son I don't love him.
EJ: No. I don't want you to tell him that you don't love him. I want you to make him believe that you don't love him.
Sami: You see that doing something like this would totally destroy him.
EJ: No, I... I don't think that doing something like this will totally destroy him. I think that, uh, this will make it easier for him to move on with the rest of his life.
Sami: God, you're crazy. You're a complete sociopath.
EJ: No, I'm a realist, Samantha. You're not going to be a part of his life. That's not going to happen, okay? So for him to hold onto some sentimental image of you is just gonna stop him from growing and moving forward and becoming more independent.
Sami: You're wrong. It's just gonna make him bitter and dead inside like you.
EJ: See, you're acting, Samantha, like you have a say in the matter. You don't.
Sami: Right, because you're holding all the cards, so you can blackmail me, you can throw me in prison, you can make sure that I never see my children again, but I can still stand here and tell you to go to hell.
EJ: Tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk.
Sami: Think you have my back against the wall, E.J. Well, for once, you are dead wrong. I'm one step ahead of you.
[Cell phone rings]
Bo: You need to get down to the station now.
Melanie: When you almost die, you kind of look at things a little differently.
Daniel: Yeah, I know.
Melanie: 'Cause you think that life is just gonna go on forever.
Daniel: At your age, yeah.
Melanie: And then it gets rubbed in your face that life is really short, and so it makes you start to think about what's important, and what's important for me is giving a child, giving my child, all the things I never got when I was growing up.
Daniel: Okay, all right, but when you were sick, do you remember what you said? Well, you said you couldn't live without Nathan.
Melanie: I don't know what I was saying. I was sick. I'm married. I love Philip, Dad.
Daniel: Okay, that's fine. No, that's fine. That's great. But if you're attracted to Nathan, having a baby with Philip is not gonna change that, and if you and Philip are having problems, a baby is not gonna solve it. [Door opens]
Chloe: Oh! Hey, guys. Am I interrupting something?
Stephanie: Look, I'm not trying to rush things, but I don't know how long my parents are gonna be on that assignment, and I just want to marry the man that I love. With hope being in prison and everything going on with Sami, I mean, my family could use a happy occasion right about now.
Caroline: Amen to that.
Nathan: I do agree. I mean, but don't you want your parents there?
Stephanie: Of course. But, listen, they've made a choice for their lives. Now I'm making one for ours. You can understand that, right?
Gabi: I can't talk very long. I'm on the clock for another 45 minutes before I get to school.
Will: Okay. I just wanted to say, uh, one thing about last night.
Gabi: Uh, look, um, I was missing my sister, and you were upset about Sydney and Johnny, and I don't know, we got-- we got caught up. I'm sorry.
Will: Actually, uh, what I wanted to say was that I'm not sorry at all.
Abe: God, Bo. We just had Hope investigate her own crimes. And now we have Sami's husband hired on when she's the prime suspect in an attempted murder. You know, maybe we should just recruit Victor and Stefano and put them in charge of the anti-racketeering unit.
Bo: Tell me something, Abe. Um, this concern of yours, is it because you're so moral and professional? Or does it have something to do with re-election?
Abe: This has to do with protecting this department. So either you and Roman do the right thing, or I'll have to fire you both.
Victor: So you want me to help you bring down E.J. DiMera.
Rafe: That's right.
Victor: And just what did you think I would say to your proposal?
Rafe: "What's in it for me?"
Victor: [Chuckles] You know, there's something about you that I like. I mean, anyone that would get involved with Sami Brady is by definition an idiot, but there's a pragmatic streak about you.
Rafe: How about it? Hmm? We got a deal or not? Anything you get on DiMera, you feed me.
Victor: What's in it for me?
Rafe: Well, when I bring E.J. down, when he's in prison, or worse, I promise you get to deliver the news to Stefano.
Victor: [Chuckles] The man knows how to negotiate.
EJ: So, listen, I called your mummy, and, uh, she said that she doesn't want to come over to see you, but she's gonna come and see you really soon. I promise you, I'll make it happen, okay? Okay? Johnny.
Sami: You want to make sure that my dad and Uncle Bo do the right thing?
Bo: Sami, don't.
Sami: It's just always hard to know what the right thing is, isn't it? Remember how Lexie stole Uncle Bo's kid and got away with it?
Bo: You're not really helping.
Sami: Well, I'm just thinking about how Abe didn't resign from the police department then. Course, he didn't have a mayor who was threatening to fire him.
Abe: Bo is right, Sami. Don't do this.
Sami: I know it's been hard for you, this whole conflict of interest, being married to a DiMera. I also know how forgiving you are, 'cause I remember how Lexie cheated on you with my fiancÚ, your son.
Abe: It's a far cry from attempted murder.
Sami: Get your own house in order, Abe. Stay the hell out of ours.
Melanie: No, Chloe, you're not interrupting anything. I'm just waiting for Philip to come. [Knock at door]
Daniel: Oh, look at that, as if on cue. Hey, man, come on in.
Philip: Hey, thanks. Hey, honey. How are you?
Melanie: I'm ready to go now.
Philip: After I get a peek at my brother-in-law. Look at that. He's smiling at me.
Daniel: Yeah, can you see the dimple? I swear he's got one. Don't know what side of the family that came from, but sure is cute.
Philip: It sure is.
Gabi: I--I don't want you to think that I'm one of those girls that comes on to every guy she sees.
Will: I don't. What's wrong with girls like that?
Will: So, uh, you want to get together after school?
Gabi: I might have this yearbook thing. I'll let you know.
Will: Okay. Yeah, cool.
Gabi: Uh, hey, will, um... I printed my pictures from Rafe and your mom's wedding. You want to see them?
Will: Yeah, sure. [Drawer slides]
Will: Oh, thanks.
Gabi: Everybody looks so happy.
Will: Wow, you are an awesome photographer.
Gabi: Thank you. Isn't that a great picture of you and the kids? Will?
Will: Um...no, yeah. The picture's great, but do you see this?
Bo: Knock it off now.
Sami: Well, he started it.
Bo: Samantha Jean, listen to me, and listen very carefully. Abe has an issue with me hiring Rafe. He needs your assurance that no one's gonna come forward and accuse Rafe of being accessory to attempted murder.
Sami: No one will come forward.
Bo: Then I think things should stand as they are.
Abe: All I can say is I hope we don't come to regret this.
Bo: Abe. Abe, hold on. Stay here, don't move. I'll be right back.
[Cell phone ringing]
Sami: Yeah, it's me. Look, um... I'll say what you want me to say to Johnny, but you have to do something for me in return.
Ben: Oh, I'm sorry. I thought this room was free.
Lexie: Oh, no, it is. It is. I was just, um...[Sniffles] I--it's free. Come on in.
Ben: Are you all right?
Lexie: Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.
Ben: I'm sorry, but I don't buy that for one minute.
Will: Am I imagining this?
Gabi: No, no, I see it, too. Should we show this to your mom?
Will: No. No, no, no. She's freaked out enough. Um, let's take them to Rafe.
Bo: Hey, Rafe?
Rafe: All right. So I'm here, ready to go.
Bo: Yeah, yeah. Where's Sami?
Rafe: I don't know.
Bo: Okay. Damn it. What the hell is she up to now?
Sami: And you have to make sure that you don't do anything to stop Rafe from getting that job at the Salem P.D.
EJ: Why would I care if there was another bumbling idiot at the Salem P.D.? So, you gonna do what I ask?
Sami: Do we have a deal?
EJ: Absolutely. Johnny! Someone to see you.
Sami: Hey. Hey, Johnny. Good to see you. Look, I need to talk to you. Your daddy and I decided that it's important that I... that I talk to you. Um, I decided that I need to talk to you. I have something I have to... say. Um, Johnny, I have to say.
EJ: Good-bye. Your mummy married Rafe, and she doesn't need too many children at the moment, so you and Sydney are gonna come and live with me. Isn't that right, Samantha?
Sami: Right. Right, um... hey, no, no, no, stop it. Listen, Johnny. You have to listen to me. Listen to me. Okay, can you please just... Johnny, I have decided that I want to be with Rafe, and I, um... and I don't love you enough to have you stay with me. Johnny.
EJ: No, that's not exactly what you said to me earlier, is it, Samantha? You don't love him at all. Wasn't that what you said?
Sami: That's what I said, Johnny. I, um... I don't-- I don't love you, and... and I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
EJ: It's okay. You got me, big fella. Oh, we're gonna be fine. We don't need her, do we?
Johnny: No, we don't need you.
Sami: Right. I'm glad we have that all cleared up. [Sniffles]
Lexie: Um, you know my son is on the autism spectrum, right?
Lexie: And, well, um, I just--I just thought that he'd made a major breakthrough, but, uh, it was just, um... magical thinking. You know, I... he's beginning to read, and I was so excited about it, you know, and I guess I just made too much out of it. I just found out he's not comprehending what he's reading. I mean, in my mind, I already had him excelling at school and having lots of friends, going off to college.
Ben: Not being autistic anymore.
Lexie: Yeah. Ugh! It's me I'm upset with, okay? It's not--it's not Theo.
Ben: Well, Lexie, Lexie, I would imagine that every parent has dreams like that. Go easy on yourself. Here.
Lexie: [Sniffles] Thanks.
Ben: Listen, if you... if you ever need to unload, I've been told I'm a great listener. Terrible dancer, but great listener.
Lexie: [Laughs] I'll remember that. Oh.
Stephanie: Aunt Adrienne, it's Stephanie. Call me back when you get this. I need to talk to you.
Stephanie: Are you following me?
Caroline: For your information, I was visiting a friend in the hospital. She had her gallbladder out. Were you calling Adrienne to tell her about the wedding?
Stephanie: Yes, among other things. I think she's gonna be really happy for me. I thought you were, too.
Caroline: I am. It's just--it's just too bad your parents can't be here.
Stephanie: I know. I know. I mean, obviously this is not an ideal situation, but when I found out that Mom was gonna be out of touch, it felt like a sign.
Caroline: A sign?
Stephanie: Yeah. That everything's gonna be okay. I mean, yes, Mom wants me to do the right thing, but right is subjective. What's right to one person isn't necessarily right to another person. I mean, you've said that before.
Caroline: Yes, I agree. Yes.
Stephanie: So, I mean, even though Mom has a different point of view...
Caroline: Thank you.
Stephanie: You and I think that this is right. So the way that things are proceeding now, no one ever needs to know that Philip cheated on Melanie.
[Knock at door]
Rafe: Hey. What are you guys doing here?
Gabi: I printed the pictures from the wedding.
Rafe: That's great. I'm kind of busy right now, though.
Will: Okay, but, uh, we need you to look at this one. Do you see what we see?
EJ: I think you can go now, Samantha. There's not really a lot left to say, is there?
Sami: I guess not. Sorry, Johnny. Your daddy's gonna take really good care of you.
EJ: You know something? You are a very brave boy. I know that was very hard to hear, but it's not your fault. It's not Sydney's fault. It's your mother's fault, okay?
Johnny: It's okay. I'm fine.
Sami: Good boy, Johnny. You're such a good boy. And this is not over, EJ. Not by a long shot.
On the next "Days of Our Lives" --
Nathan: We gotta get past this selfish attraction so that no one else gets hurt.
Nicole: You bastard! You lied to me!
Rafe: Just look at the pictures and tell me what you see.
