Nathan: Hey. There are no windows to the outside, but I think it's morning. So good morning.
Melanie: Good morning.
Nathan: How you feeling?
Melanie: Awful. You?
Nathan: Awful is a good word. You look good.
Melanie: Yeah, right.
Nathan: You do. I'm serious. But my opinion's probably biased, considering I don't think you could ever look bad to me.
Carly: You said you were gonna get some sleep--did you?
Daniel: You know what, I really don't remember. But good news, bad news. Good news is I've identified the strain... right on down to its rather elegant protein structure.
Carly: Are you sure?
Daniel: I'm positive. But it's not one of the known strains of the Loma Virus that the CDC gave us. It's a mutation. But I have the antiviral right here.
Carly: Oh, my God, really?
Daniel: Positive as I can be, anyway.
Carly: That's amazing, Daniel. So what's the bad news?
Daniel: We don't have time to test the drug.
Nicole: So the upshot is Vivian is free as a bird.
Brady: Yeah. She's probably planning her next revenge extravaganza as we speak while Maggie is in the hospital recovering.
Nicole: It's not the first time a hero's lost, huh?
Brady: No kidding. Look, I gotta go to the hospital. Melanie, um-- Melanie's not doing well. A nurse told me that she and Nathan are actually critical right now, so...
Nicole: Oh, okay, of course. You should go and show her how much you care. That's the most important thing. But don't worry about Vivian. We'll...figure some way to handle that old crone.
Brady: Yes, we will. All right, I'll see you.
Nicole: Bye. Oh, Brady... there is something I have to tell you, and you should hear it from me. And it's about Sami and EJ.
Nicole: EJ has his kids back for good.
Kate: Oh, my goodness, you're here.
EJ: Yes, we are. Thanks to you. You know, I'm not quite sure, Kate, whether I should thank you or I should destroy you.
Sami: Who wants more?
Sami: Okay, and more for Princess Allie. What about you, Will? Want another piece?
Will: I'm good.
Sami: Okay. Allie, you're gonna have to eat fast, sweetheart, because your brother's taking you to school today, okay? You have enough time still, right?
Rafe: I got it.
Will: No, no, that's okay. I can take her.
Sami: Yeah, sweetie?
Allie: When are Johnny and Sydney going to be coming home?
Sami: Not yet. Not yet.
Will: "Not yet." What does that mean? Mom, Allie has a right to know. Okay, she's upset, and she's scared, and she hates being left in the dark. So what is happening? Are Johnny and Sydney ever coming home?
Rafe: Hey, Allie, how 'bout we go get you ready for school, huh?
Allie: But I want to know about Sydney and Johnny.
Rafe: Right, yeah, and you will, but right now-- look at that. Bell rings in a few minutes, huh? You gonna wear those pony pajamas to school, are you? Is that the plan? No. Come on, let's go. Come on.
Sami: I don't know how things are gonna play out, okay? But last night I had to turn Johnny and Sydney over to EJ.
Will: EJ got ahold of Arianna's camera, didn't he?
Sami: Will, I didn't have a choice.
Will: How did he get it? How-- Nicole.
Brady: How in the hell could that bastard get his kids back? He's a proven kidnapper. I don't-- I know that look. You got something you want to tell me?
Nicole: All right, I'm gonna tell you the truth, Brady. I mean, lying to you... I just--I don't want to mess anything up between us again, okay? You mean so much to me.
Brady: Nicole... just hit me with it.
Nicole: All right, apparently Arianna, before she died, she had a recording of Sami confessing that she's the one who shot EJ. I know, who would have thought, huh? But anyway, it was in with the things Arianna left.
Brady: No, no, because I went through her things. There was no tape recorder-- unless that's the camera that Rafe kept asking about.
Nicole: When I found it, Brady, you-- look, you were so upset, and I just didn't want to-- I didn't want to drop it on you. And I didn't want to take it to the police because that would mean Sami will go to prison and leave those kids motherless for years.
Brady: You gave it to EJ, didn't you? That's why he has his kids back. You gave it back to him.
Nicole: I just didn't feel like I had any other choice.
Brady: Whatever you think you're going to get out of this, trust me, you won't.
Kate: Well, it's an awfully odd thing to say, you're going to destroy me because your children are with you.
EJ: You know exactly what I'm talking about, Kate.
Kate: Actually, no, I have no idea what's bothering you.
EJ: I have proof.
Kate: Proof? Proof of what?
EJ: That it was Samantha who shot me.
EJ: "Sami? Really? How could it be, EJ?" I confronted her with this proof, and she admitted that she came over here because you called her... and told her that I was taking Johnny and Sydney out of the country.
Kate: Wow. Wow, that is total paranoia.
EJ: Don't lie to me! You called her! You warned her! That was why she came here. Now, that makes you about as responsible for shooting me as she is. What do you think my father's gonna say when he finds out? Hmm?
Kate: I think that you are a self-righteous bastard. That's what I think. And I think the only one responsible for what happened to you is you! So maybe it's time that you just take a really, really good look at exactly what it is you've done, and exactly what it is you are.
Melanie: So you're the doctor, so just give it to me straight-- how are we doing?
Nathan: Well, if my calculations are correct, I would say we're not feeling any better. So as far as illnesses go, I'm sure this is pretty ranked up there with the least-favorite.
Nathan: But we can't concentrate on that stuff. We need to... we need to think about the positive things, the good things.
Melanie: Like what?
Nathan: Well, like... you have a great guy that just so happens to be your father... right? And, like... I don't know, like you and your mom. I mean, I know you guys have your issues, but she loves you very much. She does. And look at that great thing you did with Chloe.
Melanie: Yeah. Delivering a baby, that was pretty cool. And Maggie. And Maggie, she pretty much saved me in letting me move in with her.
Nathan: See what I'm saying? All kinds of positive things to concentrate on.
Melanie: You and I aren't at war anymore. I'm really glad about that.
Nathan: Me too.
Philip: Hey, any word on Maggie?
Chloe: Well, the nurses say that she's doing a lot better. Actually, she's becoming a bit bossy.
Philip: Well, there you go. There you go. What about Daniel? What have you heard from him?
Chloe: Last time he called...
Chloe: I don't know, it just--his voice sounded like there was something he didn't want to tell me.
Daniel: No, see, it's not a question of will the drug stop the virus. I've been testing it all night long. The problem is the dosage.
Carly: If it's too high, it overwhelms the patient's system.
Daniel: That's right. Too low, the virus survives, mutates, gets stronger.
Carly: And the patient dies anyway.
Daniel: And we have no time for human trials.
Carly: No. We need a guinea pig. Someone healthy, someone who contracts the virus, and then the antiviral is administered immediately.
Daniel: Exactly. I have no choice. I'm gonna test it on myself.
Brady: Sydney. You want Sydney. You've always wanted Sydney, I know that. I knew that, so tell me, what kind of promise did EJ make to you?
Nicole: He wasn't very specific.
Brady: He never is specific. You know what, Nicole, I gotta go. I'll be in touch.
Nicole: All right, but don't worry about Vivian, okay?
Brady: I'm not worried about Vivian. I don't want you to get your hopes up about this, all right? EJ lies. He lies to everybody. All the time. You may have given him what he wants, and hell, he's probably a little grateful. But you know what, if you're counting on him to do the right thing, Nicole, you're a fool.
Kate: I had no idea that Sami was coming over here, and that she was going to find a gun in your drunken hand and shoot you. But as for that phone call... calling and telling her what you were planning to do, you bet I did that. I did that because it was the right thing to do, and I have absolutely no regrets about it whatsoever.
EJ: It's nice to see that you're showing your true colors, Kate.
Kate: Yeah, well, you know, maybe that's because I finally see you for what you really are. I mean, not that I didn't have hints in the past. But now I'm seeing you exactly the same way that Samantha sees you. You see, because underneath that lovely little accent and that charming little smile, there lurks a monster. If you're trying to scare me, I think it's better you think about what happens to people who try to hurt me.
[Cell phone ringing]
EJ: You and I have nothing left to say to one another, Samantha.
Sami: Wrong, EJ. There's still one more thing.
Carly: You can't deliberately inject yourself with this mutation.
Daniel: I'm healthy enough to handle the side effects.
Carly: Listen to me. You're a new father, okay? You can't take risks like this.
Daniel: Okay, look, we are not gonna argue about this and waste any more time. Melanie and Nathan are weak, and they are getting weaker. My daughter needs my help. I am going to give it to her. Do you understand?
Carly: I do.
Daniel: So you agree?
Carly: I know you want to do what's best. So do I.
Daniel: Thank you. I need to talk to some people before I-- before I do this.
Carly: Of course.
Daniel: Look, uh, thank you for everything. I appreciate everything you've done in every way. It's great knowing you've always, always had my back. Hey, visitors.
Daniel: Is there a baby in here?
Chloe: Hey, you. Were you working all night?
Daniel: Pretty much, yeah.
Philip: Any news?
Stephanie: How are Nathan and Melanie?
Daniel: Well, I'm not making any promises, but I'm getting a feeling things are looking up pretty soon.
Stephanie: Oh, my God.
Philip: Finally, good news.
Daniel: I'm not making any promises. Just hang on, and I'll let you know as soon as I can. But right now, I just want a few minutes with Chloe.
Stephanie: Oh, yeah, yeah.
Philip: Yeah, okay.
Stephanie: Parker's beautiful.
Daniel: Thank you. My son. My child.
Chloe: Daniel? Daniel, honey, are you okay? The way you're looking at him...
Chloe: It's like you're never gonna see him again.
Sami: EJ, please listen to me, okay? This is not about me. This is about the twins. This is about all four kids, actually.
EJ: Two of them aren't actually yours anymore. You know that, right?
Sami: All right, what I'm trying to say is that all four of them love each other. They are used to being around each other, EJ. I mean, already this morning, Allie has been asking me about Johnny and Sydney. I mean, Johnny's got to be asking about her, right?
EJ: Not really, no.
Sami: EJ, the holidays are coming up. There is so much for him to be looking forward to. You know, the snowfall and Santa and everything, and then-- I'm just asking you to let Will and Allie see their brother and sister. Please.
EJ: I am not going to discuss this with you. Good-bye.
Nicole: Just put us both out of our misery. Are you gonna let me see Sydney or not?
Brady: So if Melanie's critical...
Stephanie: Nathan is too.
Brady: Do they allow visitors? I mean, can I see Melanie?
Philip: You can get a pass and go down there.
Stephanie: You communicate through a speaker from the hallway.
Philip: Yeah, they're in total isolation. The nurses who go into that room look like they're out of a science fiction movie or something. No one can hug her, comfort her, even touch her except Nathan.
Chloe: Daniel, you can't deliberately expose yourself to that virus. I mean, come on, you're the first person to ever take this drug. What if it doesn't work?
Daniel: I promise it will. It worked in the lab. No matter what, though, I cannot wait. Melanie and Nathan are going to die if I don't help them.
Chloe: But you could! Oh, my God!
Daniel: Honey...honey, I need you to be strong. Listen to me... listen to me, I can't even begin to explain how much you mean to me. And now you've given me Parker, this amazing boy who I will watch grow up, and love, and share...with you. And I also have a daughter Melanie who desperately needs me, and I will not say no. Now, if it were you or Parker in that isolation unit, I would do the exact same thing. My love knows no limits. Do you understand?
Chloe: Yeah. You're the best father any child could ever ask for. Just promise me that you're gonna come back.
Daniel: I will. I love you.
EJ: Well, you'll just have to come back after the holidays, Nicole.
Nicole: After the holidays? Thanksgiving is over. Are you telling me I have to wait another month?
EJ: Hey! Oh, big hug! How you doing?
Johnny: I want to play with my trains.
EJ: You want to play with your trains? Well, we can definitely do that, okay? But you promised me you were gonna take a nap. All right? Just give your daddy a second. Let me just say good-bye to-- Nicole?
Nicole: What's her name?
Nicole: Ooh, really?
[Hard knock on door]
Sami: Oh, my God, who is that?
Rafe: I don't know. Could be EJ.
Sami: Thank God Allie's' not here.
Kate: Why didn't you warn me that EJ knew that I called you?
Kate: Do you realize what kind of position that you put me in? He's gonna try to ruin my life now.
Sami: Are you serious? Kate, I just lost two of my children, and you really think I should care what happens to you?
Kate: Yes, yes. I think you do need to care. Because I have a plan that could help us all. Are you ready for that help?
EJ: Nicole, even though you brought me what I needed...
Nicole: I gave you your children back.
EJ: I still have... a great many memories... most of them bad. Seeing you with Sydney, though, something is clear.
Rafe: You're gonna help us?
Kate: Who's the one who called you to tell you that EJ was planning on stealing Johnny and Sydney from you? And when you told me what EJ did, could you deny-- can you stand there and say that I wasn't upset about it? You know, I don't even care whether you believe me. I really don't. Because to tell you the truth, I can't believe it myself. I cannot believe that I am actually taking your side. But the truth is, part of your family is now part of my family.
Sami: Okay, so...where is this going?
Kate: I can't stand the thought of your children being taken from you. I think it's just wrong. And EJ did it in the most disgusting way possible.
Sami: Well, there's no surprise.
Rafe: The problem is EJ holds all the cards.
Kate: Maybe not.
Kate: Well, Stefano is still out of town, and he doesn't know about any of this. And there happens to be certain documents that, if I got my hands on them, let's just say it could be a big game changer.
Sami: Really? I mean, that's-- that's awesome.
Rafe: The thing is, if you cross Stefano, things could get worse for all of us. I just don't see how that helps Johnny and Sydney.
Kate: Can you live without them?
[Cell phone ringing]
Kate: Sorry. If this is EJ, he's gonna get an earful that he didn't expect, let me tell you that. Sorry, just a sec. Hi, Brady. Look, I'm in the middle of something and-- oh, my God. Okay, we'll talk. Um, look, I have to-- I have to go. There's another fire I need to put out before I deal with this. But we'll be in touch. I think my plan is your only hope.
Stephanie: Can you tell us what's going on?
Daniel: Okay, listen, I'm gonna let Chloe explain, so why don't you guys go in there and talk to her. But Philip, I need to talk to you for a minute first.
Fr. Matt: Stephanie.
Fr. Matt: How are you holding up?
Stephanie: Hanging in there. Were you able to...
Fr. Matt: Yes, I had a few minutes with Nathan and Melanie. I gave them each a blessing.
Stephanie: Did they ask for...
Fr. Matt: No, but they know I'll be back in a few hours.
Stephanie: I just can't help but feel like this is my fault.
Fr. Matt: What? Stephanie, why would you even think a thing like that?
Stephanie: I don't know. I just get so upset sometimes. See, I was supposed to tell them something. Something that neither of them want to know. But I finally decided to tell them because it was the right thing to do. And then they got so sick. I mean, I know I didn't cause anything to happen, really, but I can't help but feel that way sometimes.
Fr. Matt: And this thing you wanted to tell them, was it your way of making an amend?
Fr. Matt: And there was no other way for you to do it? There was no one else you could give this information to?
Stephanie: Probably, but I can't deal with that right now.
Fr. Matt: When the time is right?
Stephanie: Yeah, when the time is right.
Melanie: Maggie says this helps people sleep.
Melanie: Maybe it'll make you feel better. Carly! What are you doing in here?
Sami: Well, it didn't seem like she was lying.
Rafe: No, just desperate.
Sami: Well, it's Kate we're talking about, right? I mean, she always knows how to put herself first.
Rafe: Yep. But you're right. If she does have a way to help us get Johnny and Sydney back...
Sami: I don't know, Rafe. Her plans always blow up in her face, just like mine do. The holidays are coming. We're supposed to be planning trips to the mall, have the kids see Santa Claus... helping them write their letters to the North Pole and... you know, the Bradys have a lot of family holiday traditions that you are now, you know, required to be a part of as my husband.
Rafe: All right, all right, listen. We're gonna figure this out, and we're gonna get them back, okay? Trust in that, all right, Mrs. Hernandez?
Sami: All right. I'm gonna go lay down and just be by myself, okay, for a little bit? I just need some alone time.
Sami: I love you.
Rafe: This isn't over.
EJ: Okay, time for a nap. Come on. Unh! Run to the kitchen, get some milk. I'll be upstairs in a minute.
Nicole: EJ, I gave you everything you needed.
EJ: For very selfish reasons, Nicole. Anyway, look, that's not really my point, all right? I've been thinking about you and Sydney, and the conversation that we had last night.
Nicole: I just wanted to--
EJ: Just be quiet, just for a moment, please. It's all rather, um... fascinating, really. I mean, you give Sydney back to Samantha... cut all ties, proclaim that she's out of your life. And the first chance you get, you bring her back to me. Clearly you love her. And I'm sure you will always love her. Take her to the garden. Go on, spend some time with her. Show her that you love her.
Nicole: Hey, did you hear that, huh? Go play in the garden.
EJ: For an hour, Nicole. One. No more. Otherwise it'll be your last, okay?
Brady: He's gonna test the drug on himself?
Chloe: He's positive it'll work.
Brady: Chloe, what if it--
Chloe: It will work! If Daniel says it's gonna work, it will.
Brady: You're right. You're right. He's a great doctor. If anyone can pull it off, it's Daniel. How are you? How you doing?
Chloe: I--I don't know. I'll be fine. I think I just want sit and hold Parker for a little while, okay?
Brady: Sure. But if you need anything, or if you need someone to talk to, come to me.
Chloe: I will. Thank you. Hey, I'm gonna be fine. Just please pray for Daniel.
Brady: I'll do that.
Chloe: Thanks. Hi, pumpkin. Hi. Hi. Hi, baby. Hi, my angel. Mommy made a mess of everything. I cheated, I lied. Made a million lies to cover all the other lies. I've done so many things wrong. Please, God, don't punish Daniel for my sins.
Daniel: All right, Carly, let's get to work. What are you doing? Carly? Carly!
Brady: Apparently, Daniel developed this drug overnight.
Stephanie: But if he's gonna test it on himself, then...
Philip: It's one hell of a risk, isn't it?
Kate: Okay, so what's going on? How are Melanie and Nathan doing?
Philip: Not good, but Daniel's developed a drug he thinks will work.
Stephanie: It's an antiviral. The problem is, he has to test it on himself first.
Brady: And if it's-- when it's safe to use, he'll use it on Melanie and Nathan.
Kate: Well, I mean, that sounds promising, right? So what do we do, just wait and hope?
Philip: Pretty much.
Kate: Um, Brady, could I talk to you for a second?
Kate: The phone call... it was all true?
Brady: It's a very long and unpleasant story. But yes, Vivian is free.
Philip: So what do you think the odds are...about the drug?
Stephanie: No idea. I mean, if Daniel's willing to risk it...
Philip: Yeah, sometimes when you roll the dice...
Stephanie: Okay, all right, let's not go there.
Philip: Sorry. All you want is to see Nathan, and all I want is to get Melanie well. If Daniel can pull this off, then everybody's gonna be happy. You and Nathan, Mel and me, Daniel and Chloe.
Stephanie: No, Philip. Even if the drug works, no one's gonna be happy.
Melanie: You're not supposed to be in here.
Carly: Shh, you need to rest.
Nathan: You're not wearing a hazmat suit.
Melanie: This isn't right.
Carly: Listen to me. Everything's gonna be all right. I promise.
Nicole: Look at your dollies, huh? They are so beautiful and so happy, huh? You know why they're happy? Because they're with you. And I'm happy I'm with you. I haven't been this happy in so long. I'm doing the right thing. I know I am. I know I am. Ha! Yeah. [Muttering]
EJ: I swear, that boy laughs in his sleep. What are you doing here?
Kate: I know that you need to focus on Melanie right now, but you can't ignore Vivian because she is going to come after us-- each and every one of us.
Brady: I know. It's who she is.
Kate: I don't think she's gonna start with Victor or with Philip.
Brady: Oh, no, it won't be you or Nicole either. I locked her in. I'm first on her to-do list.
Philip: What are you talking about? If Nathan and Melanie make it out of this alive, why wouldn't we be happy?
Stephanie: My mom made me realize some things a while ago, Philip. Some things that no one can hide from. The truth.
Philip: The truth about what?
Stephanie: Parker and you.
Daniel: Hey! Carly! What is this? What is this? Don't do it. Don't do it! Carly! Carly! Carly! Do not do it! No! Carly! Carly!
EJ: Rafe. How did you get in here?
Rafe: Mary let me in. I'm not here for Sami, by the way. I'm here for Will and Allie. And Johnny and Sydney, and you love 'em... even the ones that aren't yours.
EJ: What's your point, exactly?
Rafe: You want what's best for them. They need each other. Those kids, they have a bond. It doesn't just disappear depending on whether someone wins or loses, EJ. For their sake, I'm hoping we can come to some sort of agreement. At least for the holidays.
EJ: [Clears throat] No. Never.
Nicole: Sydney... uh-oh. I think my little dolly is thirsty, huh? What about yours? How 'bout we have some tea? Want to have a little tea?
On the next "Days of Our Lives" --
Carly: If I don't get that drug, you know what the outcome's gonna be?
Sami: Get out of my way.
Rafe: You son of a bitch.
