Stefano: [Breathing heavily] I think I am close to finding out who did this to you. And when I do... there'll be hell to pay. Marco.

Marco: Yes, sir.

Stefano: Bring me a glass-- a tall glass of orange juice. No pulp.

Marco: Orange juice?

Stefano: Orange juice, yes. Right away.

Marco: Got it.

Stefano: And Marco... after you get the orange juice, there's someone I want you to take care of for me.

Brady: Hey, Nic, listen, um, it's me. I was wondering if you got a chance to go to the mausoleum today, because I'm a little worried about what we're gonna find when--when you get there. Listen, just call me as soon as you get this. EJ. I was gonna call you.

EJ: I'm not really in the mood for a scene right now.

Brady: No scene. No scene. I just wanted to thank you. You called me about Arianna, and I appreciated I got to say good-bye.

EJ: Small comfort.

Brady: Yeah. But if I hadn't gotten the chance to say good-bye bef... anyway, thank you.

EJ: You're welcome. I did it for her.

Brady: Yeah, I know.

EJ: Look, um... while you're here--when I was with Arianna, she kept trying to say something, but I couldn't quite make out what.

Brady: I'm sorry, she tried to talk to you or something?

EJ: Yeah, but like I said, it didn't actually happen. I mean, you have a good relationship with her. I was just wondering if she opened up to you at all.

Hope: I'm telling you, something is wrong. It's about that girl. April. The one I told you about.

Bo: The one who died after the appendectomy.

Hope: Yeah. And now today...

Bo: I hate that I can't protect you in this damn place.

Hope: I'm not your problem anymore.

Bo: Don't say that. I let you down before. I am not gonna let you down again.

Kayla: Stephanie, there is something that you need to know.

Caroline: Kayla.

Kayla: I'm telling her, Mom.

Caroline: No.

Kayla: She's as much a part of this as we are.

Stephanie: What are you guys talking about?

Kayla: Chloe's paternity test results.

Stephanie: Mom.

Kayla: They're not what everybody thinks they are.

Stephanie: I can't believe you're talking about this in front of Grandma.

Kayla: I've looked into this. And there was a mistake. But it wasn't clerical. Daniel isn't the baby's father. Philip is.

Melanie: You know, we probably should just put all this stuff into storage. We won't really be doing a lot of cooking since your dad has people for that.

Philip: Actually, you should probably stop packing.

Melanie: Why?

Philip: My dad says he doesn't want us to move in yet.

Melanie: Oh! What happened?

Philip: That's what I intend to find out.

Vivian: Where am I? Oh, dear. This time, it's for real. I'm dead. But if I am talking to myself, that suggests an afterlife. Which means I'm in one of two places, either heaven or...

Lawrence: I've been waiting for you, Aunty.

Vivian: The other place. Lawrence?

Lawrence: Aunty Viv. It is so good to see you.

Vivian: Oh, my God, I'm dead. Victor did me in, that son of a bitch.

Philip: All of a sudden, he says he's doing renovations.

Melanie: Well, maybe he is.

Philip: Then why didn't he say anything yesterday when he was telling us how great it was gonna be to move in?

Melanie: That is weird.

Philip: Yeah. He claims he wants to put in bookshelves. Stuff like that. Oh, and he says that there's no cable yet, and we can't live without that. I mean, come on.

Melanie: That would be hard.

Philip: Yeah, he also thinks that you and Nicole might have a problem getting along, but I told him that wasn't an issue.

Melanie: No, that won't be a problem. I will steer clear of her, and she will steer clear of me, because, you know, she hates me.

Philip: Yeah, but that's-- that's not what this is. There's something else. I could tell.

Melanie: Well, maybe...

Philip: What?

Melanie: He just wants privacy.

Philip: Privacy? That house is huge.

Melanie: I know. Maybe it's just dawned on him that he's gonna be under the same roof as me.

Philip: What's the problem with that?

Melanie: Carly Manning's daughter. I don't exactly have a clean track record.

Philip: Well, you know, if he wanted to get you, he would have moved us in right after the wedding, given you the red carpet treatment, and stuck a shiv in your back.

Melanie: Yikes.

Philip: I'm kidding. No, this isn't about you. You've managed to charm my father the same way you've charmed everybody else.

Melanie: You make me sound a lot better than I really am.

Philip: Come on. I know how lucky I am to be the guy you married.

Brady: No. Arianna tried--tried to talk to me too, but she couldn't. She couldn't manage it.

EJ: Hmm. I'm sorry. She didn't say anything? Nothing at all.

Brady: Why do you care?

EJ: Look, I just spent a lot of time with her recently, and I thought if she said something to you, and you didn't quite understand what it was, maybe I could help you in some way.

Brady: You're unbelievable. Really.

EJ: I beg your pardon.

Brady: You are unbelievable. Calling me to Arianna's bedside in the hospital. She knew something, right? What was it? You were hoping that she would tell me before she... unbelievable.

EJ: All right. Okay. Fine. Brady, yes, she knew something. Yes, I wanted to know what it was. She knew who shot me. She had proof. She was bringing it to me the night of the accident.

Brady: Why would Arianna care about nailing the person that shot you?

EJ: Because she was concerned for her brother's safety.

Brady: That doesn't make any sense.

EJ: Samantha shot me.

Brady: Sami shot you?

EJ: That's right.

Brady: You want to pin this on Sami? Wait--wait a minute. It makes sense, though. She dumped you. You want to put Sami away. Is that it?

EJ: What I want is justice. And that's what Arianna wanted.

Brady: I don't know who shot you, EJ. But I hope they get another whack at it, and I hope their aim is a little better next time.

EJ: Brady, Samantha shot me. Now Arianna had proof, and she died trying to get me that proof. Don't you think we should respect her final wish?

Stephanie: You said there was probably a clerical error.

Kayla: I was wrong.

Stephanie: Why are we talking about this in front of Grandma?

Caroline: 'Cause I already know about it.

Stephanie: Wha--what did you say to her?

Kayla: The point is that the three of us know the truth, that Philip is the baby's father. But the people who need to know, Philip, Daniel, and Chloe, are still in the dark, so there is something very wrong about that.

Stephanie: Okay, before you go off on your little argument, listen to me. You have not lived here for the past year. I have. Daniel and Chloe are dying to have this baby. Philip isn't. He doesn't want it. Especially not with Chloe.

Caroline: That's what I told her.

Kayla: He is going to find out.

Stephanie: You don't know that.

Kayla: You know what, baby, he is a doctor. After that baby is born, there's going to be so many different ways that he could stumble upon the fact that he is not the biological father.

Stephanie: That's not your problem.

Kayla: No, you are. And I want you to be prepared.

Stephanie: Prepared? For what?

Kayla: For whatever happens when the truth comes out.

Stephanie: You mean when Nathan leaves me, right? Mom, listen to me. You say something, Melanie is gonna leave Philip in a heartbeat. She's gonna go running and crying on Nathan's shoulder.

Kayla: You do not know that.

Stephanie: Before you know it, they're gonna be together, and I'm gonna lose the guy that I love. Melanie will make sure of it, just to prove that she can. She'll ruin everything for me, and you don't even care, do you?

Kayla: I do care. But you know what, you don't know the whole story.

[Cell phone ringing]

Kayla: I got to take this. Hello. Yes. Oh, my God.

Hope: So, um... in my therapy sessions, I have decided it's better to stop being so aggressive.

Bo: Aggressive how?

Hope: I'm not gonna ask so many questions anymore.

Bo: How's that working out for you?

Hope: I've gotten some answers anyway. I've found that some situations are, well, they're different than I thought they would be. Do you know what I mean?

Bo: Yeah. Sometimes you don't want to push too much.

Hope: Exactly.

Bo: I'm wondering... is there anything we can do with what you found out?

Smith: My contact in Salem says it's true. Hope's daughter really is a mess.

Lee: So it makes sense for her to want to see her kid's father.

Smith: Yeah.

Lee: You don't think she's passing on information?

Smith: She doesn't know that much.

Lee: Now.

Smith: Right. To be on the safe side, Hope Brady is gonna have to go.

Vivian: Where are we?

Lawrence: They call it the waiting area, and I have been here for quite some time!

Vivian: Darling, darling, listen to me. Calm down. I have missed you terribly. Terribly. But I'm just not ready to be here.

Lawrence: Really?

Vivian: Don't take it personally. It's just not my time.

Lawrence: How much time did you think you had left in that box?

Vivian: Well, frankly, I was expecting to be rescued today.

Lawrence: By whom?

Vivian: Not Brady, of course. He put me in here. But other people are hearing about it. Kate DiMera, Nicole DiMera, Victor.

Lawrence: They all hate you. Everybody hates you. Except for me. But I'm no use to you, I'm afraid.

Vivian: Well, I'm not giving up.

Lawrence: No. That would not be you. And perhaps it's not your time yet. But it will be soon. You put a lot into making that box a living nightmare for a person. The toxic paint fumes and all that. And there's no one on earth who wants to help you. You know I'm right. [Silently] Come on.

Vivian: [Mutters] Oh. Oh. It was a dream. Oh, God. What a horrible dream. If I'm gonna be stuck in here, I deserve better dreams. Nice silk sheets. Rose petals. The Baldwin Brothers lined up according to height. But this was a dream, wasn't a vision of the future. So Lawrence was wrong. He's a lovely boy, but he's always been a few sandwiches short of a picnic. I'm sure there's got to be somebody out there who cares. There just has to be.

EJ: I understand Samantha's your stepsister. Okay? But what I don't understand is why you have this abject loyalty to her, Brady. What has she ever done for you?

Brady: Is that--is that what friendship is to you? Quid pro quo? A big bartering system like, you know, you defend Ari, so she owes you intel. Really?

EJ: Okay, fine. I understand. You don't like me. All right? But Arianna had proof, Brady. Now you know her well enough to know that, whatever proof she had, that was the truth. You know I saw the accident, right?

Brady: No, you didn't mention that.

EJ: Arianna was trying to get away from William when she ran into the path of that car. Now who do you think sent William down there to persuade her not to talk to me? Hmm? Listen, Brady, if she had proof, you know her better than anybody. Now where would she put that if she needed to keep it safe?

Hope: How's Ciara liking first grade?

Bo: She's, you know, doing okay. Has a couple of new friends.

Hope: That's great.

Bo: Yeah. Having a little trouble with the reading, though, so every night we're working with the flash cards.

Hope: Bet she hates that, huh?

Bo: Oh, yeah. But when we're done, we read from chapter books. That's what she calls them. Right now, we're working on Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Hope: I loved that book.

Bo: So does your daughter. The animals are all cool, and the adults, they're jerks.

Hope: You know, do you remember last April, yeah, I think that's when it was, when Ciara had that fall.

Bo: Yeah.

Hope: Well, I forgot to mention that the orthopedist wanted to see her again after six months.

Bo: Oh. Okay.

Hope: Yeah, um, I can't remember the doctor's name. Can you do the legwork for me?

Bo: Yeah, that's something I can take care of.

Hope: You know, come to think of it, maybe you should get a second opinion or two.

Bo: I'll work on that.

Hope: I hate that I can't take care of these things myself.

Bo: Don't worry. I'll take care of it.

Kayla: I can't believe it took you so long to track me down. Listen, what I want you to do is to MedEvac him to the hospital in Johannesburg. And please tell Steve that I will be there as soon as I can. I will call you back with my flight information. Thank you.

Stephanie: What's wrong with Dad?

Kayla: He's running a high fever. He has malaria.

Caroline: Kayla, you got to get on the plane tonight. Steve needs you.

Kayla: Listen, I'm sorry about all this.

Stephanie: Is he gonna be okay?

Kayla: I promise you that I will take good care of him.

Stephanie: So now that you have to leave, you can't talk to Daniel and Chloe?

Kayla: I am hoping to leave that in your hands.

Stephanie: Well, I wish you hadn't told me any of this.

Kayla: I had no choice.

Caroline: You did have a choice.

Kayla: No, I did not. Because, you see, Stephanie, your grandmother here, she just happens to be the one who switched the results.

Melanie: Give me that. What is that?

Philip: I don't know. I don't know what that is.

Maggie: Oh. You're still packing.

Melanie: Yeah, although Philip says we should stop.

Maggie: Why?

Philip: Uh, all of a sudden, my dad says he doesn't want us to move in right away.

Maggie: [Laughs] Doggone it. That means I'm gonna have the two of you underfoot for a little while longer?

Melanie: It looks like it.

Maggie: Well, I'm just gonna have to control my disappointment.

Melanie: Us too.

Maggie: So why doesn't Victor want you to move in?

Philip: Well, he says he's doing renovations, but I don't buy it. Something else is up.

Maggie: Hmm. Um, I don't want you to worry too much, but I got the same feeling when I saw him last night.

Philip: Really?

Maggie: Yes, so for his sake, I hope you get to the bottom of whatever it is.

Brady: Can't help you.

EJ: Can't or won't, Brady?

Brady: Both. Both, EJ. Look, I know Sami's done some crazy things, but she would not shoot her kids' daddy in the head.

EJ: You didn't seem very happy with her at the hospital.

Brady: I wasn't happy. 'Cause I heard about Arianna through you instead of my sister.

EJ: Really? Not because she was pushing you? Asking the same kind of questions that I'm asking you right now? She wanted to know if Arianna said something.

Brady: Please stop. She wouldn't do it.

EJ: Push a person hard enough, Brady, they'll do anything.

Brady: I actually agree with that.

EJ: Okay. Now the night Samantha and I were supposed to get married, she found out some pretty awful things. According to the police report, nobody forced entrance into my father's house. There was no forensic evidence. There were no fingerprints. That means it was somebody who had access to the house. It means it was either Samantha or it was William.

Brady: EJ, EJ, if you want to blame someone, just blame me. All right? I'm the one that helped Nicole steal the baby in the first place. I set it in motion. Leave Sami out of it.

EJ: The only person who's above blame in this whole situation is Arianna. Now she had proof, Brady. Somebody is responsible for her death. Now don't you think that person should pay?

Brady: Yeah, I do. And I'll tell you what, I'll do whatever I can to make that happen.

Marco: Here.

Stefano: [Groans] Thank you. [Sighs] I know, Marco, that the trail has gone cold, but I cannot have Elvis going rogue. You know, breaking into houses, doing your job.

Marco: No, sir.

Stefano: Find out who did this, Marco. Find out who shot my son. And you take care of that person. I don't want to know who it is. Just get it done.

Marco: Yes, sir. Is there anything else?

Stefano: No. And do not come back until it's done.

Stephanie: Grandma? You?

Caroline: Yes.

Stephanie: You switched the test results?

Caroline: I knew how worried you were about Nathan and that you were even thinking of getting pregnant to hold on to him.

Stephanie: Okay, but that doesn't have anything to do with Daniel and Chloe.

Caroline: Well, I heard you and Ian, you had your heads together. I heard you talking.

Stephanie: Oh, my God.

Caroline: I saw Ian hanging around at St. Mary's Hospital, and I'm a volunteer there. So I looked up the medical record, and I saw Chloe's name, her pseudonym that is, and two keystrokes and Daniel was the father of Chloe's baby. And your problem was solved, or so I thought.

Stephanie: Grandma, I love you, but I can't believe you did this. You could go to jail. You know that?

Kayla: Ha, maybe the judge will take pity on her because of her age.

Caroline: Ah, stuff it.

Kayla: You know, it's just not like you.

Caroline: It is me. It's the me who let Bo think that your father was his father for 30 years, and it turned out all right.

Kayla: I have to get to Steve. But I can't leave here unless I know that everything's gonna be made right... and that the two of you will survive whatever happens next.

Smith: I'd very much like to make this happen. You sure? I understand. Damn.

Lee: Bad news?

Smith: I can't get Hope taken off infirmary duty. The brass started asking too many questions. We can't risk them getting suspicious.

Lee: What are you gonna do about it?

Smith: Looks like we're on to plan "B".

Philip: Hey, Brady.

Brady: Philip. How about a drink?

Philip: A little early for me.

Brady: Suit yourself.

Philip: I'm so sorry about Arianna.

Brady: Yeah, thank you. Me too.

Philip: Mel, she's--she's all broken up about it.

Brady: Yeah, Melanie. I should have called her.

Philip: She understands. She understands. Look, I know you and Arianna weren't together, but this has still got to hurt like hell.

Brady: You could say that.

Philip: Maybe that's it.

Brady: What?

Philip: Well, we were all set to move in, and then this morning, Father says for us to hold off. Maybe he wants to give you a little space.

Brady: [Laughs] That's Grandfather, huh? Mr. Sensitive.

Philip: He said something about renovating the whole east wing. But that seems so sudden.

Brady: Um, yeah. Yeah, yeah, no, he just came up with that.

Philip: It is a lie. And you know the real reason that he doesn't want us here, don't you?

EJ: You all right? You look pale.

Stefano: I just got off the phone with Judge Reilly's clerk.

EJ: Reilly? That's the judge in my custody case, right? How do you know his clerk?

Stefano: Who do you think put him through law school? Anyway, he says that the judge has gone over the briefs from your lawyer and Samantha's lawyer, and he thinks that the judge is going to rule in favor of Samantha, so whatever Arianna had on Samantha, you better find it quickly or come up with another plan.

Hope: Everything okay?

Lee: No. No, it's not.

Hope: What's going on?

Lee: Another inmate. Sheila Brunner.

Hope: What about her?

Lee: She's dead.

Hope: Does it say what happened? How did she die?

Lee: T.B.

Hope: T.B. Oh, my God.

Lee: And such a young woman. And the worst part...

Hope: What's that?

Lee: Well, it's T.B. It's contagious, you know. Just pray no one else gets it. We don't want an epidemic.

Bo: Hope was telling me about this girl she met on the inside, April, who died after an appendectomy.

Carly: Okay.

Bo: I was asking a lot of questions about this, but I had to back off, but I know her. She's not gonna drop it.

Carly: Even after her life was threatened?

Bo: Yeah, well, she's a cop on the case right now. I recognize the signs.

Carly: Wow, okay. I want to help.

Bo: I was hoping you'd say that.

Carly: All right, the complication rate of an appendectomy depends on the status of the appendix when it's removed. If it hasn't ruptured, it's about 3%. If it has, the rate goes up to 60%.

Bo: Well, Hope said the cause of death was listed as septic shock.

Carly: Then the appendix ruptured. And if the girl wasn't taken quickly into surgery, that could be significant.

Bo: You know, if I give Hope this information, she's gonna want to dig in more, get more information, and that could be dangerous.

Carly: Well, then maybe you and I should try to get that information ourselves.

Stephanie: You go home to Dad, and I will take care of this. I promise.

Kayla: Are you just telling me what I want to hear?

Nathan: Hey, ladies.

Stephanie: Hey, when did you get here?

Nathan: A few minutes ago. I thought you saw me. I was on the phone with the hospital.

Stephanie: If I saw you, do you think I'd still be standing here?

Nathan: Oh.

Caroline: Feel better now?

Brady: Look, man, if you're saying that I did something to keep you and Melanie from moving in here, then that's...

Philip: But you're letting Nicole live here. That's a deterrent.

Brady: Well, Philip, if this place isn't up to your standards, then why are you so hot to move in here? Come on. I got to change for the memorial service.

EJ: So you just want me to drop this idea of getting proof that Samantha shot me?

Stefano: No. But unfortunately you cannot identify her.

EJ: I am pursuing every avenue, Father. If there is proof out there, I will find it. Now instead of reminding me of how dire the situation is, why don't you offer to help me?

Stefano: Offer to help you? That's all I do is try to help you, but you always think you have the damn answers.

EJ: Do you have to yell? Really?

Stefano: I can fix this for you, Elvis, if you put aside your foolish pride and let me. I know exactly what to do to make sure that Samantha and Rafael Hernandez are not in the position to raise my grandchildren.

Nathan: Hey. Tell me what's wrong.

Stephanie: My dad's really sick.

Nathan: I'm sorry. What is it?

Kayla: He's got malaria. I'm headed back there now.

Nathan: Well, hey, I know this must be hard, but just know that he's gonna be fine, and your mom's gonna make sure of that, right?

Kayla: I want to help you plan the wedding. I'm very happy really for both of you.

Nathan: Thank you.

Caroline: I think we should have a toast to the happy couple. Nathan, will you help me with the drinks?

Nathan: Of course.

Caroline: Okay.

Kayla: I-I really can't believe that your grandmother did that. The truth should have come out as soon as the paternity test results came out. You see that, don't you?

Stephanie: I do. I didn't at first, but just looking at Nathan just now, I mean, it hit me. I-I don't want to lie to him. I don't want to trick him. I want the same kind of love in marriage that you and Dad have.

Kayla: And I want that for you too. I want you to be with a man who trusts you... and loves you with all his heart.

Stephanie: I'll take care of Grandma. I still can't believe she did that because of me.

Kayla: Well, you didn't ask her to do it.

Stephanie: Well, not in so many words. I was very whiny and insecure.

Kayla: I don't know why. You are a beautiful, wonderful girl.

Stephanie: I love you, Mom.

Caroline: So, everybody... there is a tradition at the Brady Pub that, on a happy occasion, we buy a round for everybody. So order up and raise a glass to my beautiful granddaughter and the young man who asked her to marry him.

[Glasses clinking]

Hope: Another prisoner dead. I wasn't wrong, Bo.

EJ: Just how... do you intend on dealing with Samantha?

Stefano: Leave that to me. You just prepare for the children's return.

EJ: No, no, Father, wait. Listen to me. When I asked for your help, I meant help in finding out what it was that Arianna wanted to give me.

Stefano: Oh. That.

EJ: Yes, that. I told you before, I want to deal with Samantha legally. I don't want her hurt.

Stefano: I don't believe what I am hearing. This woman put a bullet in your brain and left you to die. You don't want her hurt? My God, this is worse than I even thought it would be. She really has some weird hold over you, doesn't she?

Bo: So you want to help me help Hope?

Carly: Well, yeah, I mean, she wanted you to talk to a doctor. I can discreetly inquire about the medical setup in the prison without raising suspicion.

Bo: Okay. Thank you.

Carly: No problem.

EJ: All right. I admit my feelings for Samantha are... complicated.

Stefano: That's an understatement.

EJ: Okay, but it's also beside the point. All right? Right now, I'm totally focused on trying to find Arianna's proof.

Stefano: I know that. And get your children back.

EJ: Of course.

Stefano: [Exhales] I think you might have an additional motivation, eh?

EJ: Really?

Stefano: Once you get the proof, you will once again have Samantha under your control. So if you want, you can send her to prison.

EJ: Right.

Stefano: Or you can put her back in your bed.

Caroline: Ah, Maggie, Melanie, you're just in time to toast the happy couple.

Maggie: Oh, excuse me, Caroline. Seems like I'm the last to know.

Nathan: No, it literally-- it literally just happened. I promise.

Maggie: [Laughs] Well, I think it's wonderful.

Nathan: Thank you.

Maggie: Congratulations, you two.

Stephanie: Thank you.

Melanie: I'm really happy for you guys.

Stephanie: I can tell.

Nathan: Stop.

Maggie: Um, we're here for Arianna Hernandez's memorial service. Melanie is beside herself.

Nathan: Yeah, this thing is so awful.

Maggie: Well, I-I know Melanie wishes you the best. Just as I do.

Stephanie: Thank you.

Maggie: Are you all right? I mean, as all right as you can be under the circumstances?

Melanie: Yeah. Yeah, no, Nathan's gonna be as happy as I am now, and that's good, right?

Nathan: Hey. Um, I'm sorry you had to find out that way. I was...

Melanie: It's fine. I think it's great.

Caroline: Kayla, please send our love to Steve.

Kayla: You know I will. You and Nathan love each other. Anyone can see that. You're gonna get through this.

Stephanie: I know.

Brady: Are you alive in there?

Vivian: Lawrence? Lawrence, is that you?

Brady: Sure. Why not?

Vivian: Have you taken up painting, darling? I keep smelling these paint fumes.

Brady: Guess it won't be long now.

Philip: Brady. Is someone in here with you?

On the next "Days of Our Lives" --

EJ (to Sami and Rafe): Once I find the proof Arianna had for me, it's buh-bye.

Kate (to Nicole): That's why Victor is my bitch.

Vivian: Philip, save me.

Philip: That's Vivian.
