Maggie: Is that what's killing you now... the fact that you disappointed Isabella?

Victor: She could've seen some of the things that I've done.

Maggie: Don't you know that she'd love you anyway? She would. You can be as cold as ice. And there isn't a sentimental bone in that whole body of yours. But then there is that warm and loving heart. That's what makes you so damn complicated.

Victor: How is it that you always know the right thing to say?

Vivian: No! No! [Crying] Vivian, pull yourself together. Once Maggie finds out what Victor's done, she won't give him the time of day.

Maggie: You made a couple of veiled references to something that you've done lately.

Victor: Right.

Maggie: It has to do with Vivian, doesn't it?

Victor: [Sigh]

Kate: Arianna Hernandez was hit by a car?

Stefano: Yes.

Kate: Well, how is she?

Stefano: Well, Elvis said she came through the surgery. That's all I know.

Kate: [Sigh] Her poor mother must be beside herself.

Stefano: Ha! That's the way that things happen these days. I mean, you ask yourself, "What if it was my daughter?"

Kate: I know. [Scoffs] It's enough to make me feel sorry for Rafe.

Stefano: Look, no matter how we feel about him, she is his sister. And she's family, and family is everything.

Kate: Ah.

[Doorbell rings]

Kate: Ah, the door.

Stefano: Okay.

Kate: I'll get it.

Stefano: All right.

Kate: Chad.

Chad: Did I come at a bad time?

Will: [Sniffs, exhales] Gotta do it. Mom's counting on you. Crap, the camera's not even here. What did Arianna do with it?

Gabi: Will? What are you doing with Arianna's stuff?

Rafe: How is she?

Walters: I managed to stop the fibrillation.

Rafe: So she's gonna be all right?

Walters: I'm afraid the trauma to the chest has taken a toll on Arianna's lungs.

Rafe: But you can do something?

Walters: I could put her on life support, but I would never be able to wean her off of it. The end result would be the same as keeping her comfortable, not intervening. Arianna's lungs are so weak, we considered a transplant, but there's just too many complications.

Rafe: So then?

Walters: It's just a Matter of time.

Rafe: Oh, my God.

Walters: It was a sudden reversal. I know this is a shock. Arianna's a Catholic. If you wanna call a priest... this is the time.

Rafe: Okay.

Walters: I'm--I'm very sorry.

Rafe: Yeah, yeah. Hey, kid. Hey. It's me.

EJ: Come on, Arianna. Come on. You're the only person I can count on. The only person who can help me figure out what happened.

Will: Uh, eh, I'm sorry. I'm--I'm such a klutz. I stood up and then I accidentally kicked the table, and the purse fell over.

Gabi: I hope nothing's broken. I don't want any of her stuff to be messed up.

Will: Yeah, I'm sorry.

Gabi: It's okay.

Will: I wish that I could tell you that everything's gonna be all right.

Gabi: But you can't do that. Can you?

Rafe: Hey. Hey, you remember that time you found that cat in the park? Milo. That was the sickest, scrawniest cat I ever saw. You were about--about six then. I remember, you brought him home, and you made him a little bed in a shoe box. You gave him warm milk from one of your doll's bottles. I was about 13. Man of the world at the time. And I remember saying to you, "Hey..." [Chuckles] "Ari, that cat--that cat is not gonna make it." You looked at me... you looked at me with those big, brown, beautiful eyes, and you said, "Rafe, I asked God for a miracle. I asked him. And I think I heard him say, 'Okay.'" Yeah, well... sure enough, what was it-- it was about a year later, that cat, he must've weighed, what, 15 pounds? [Chuckles] He ruled the roost. He was--he was the baddest cat on the block, wasn't he? He-- [Sniffs] Oh, God. Listen... listen, what I'm trying to say here is just... maybe you could ask God for another one of those miracles? 'Cause he doesn't seem to be listening to me right now. Could you do that? You tell him--you tell him that I will do anything... just as long as he'll say okay just one more time.

Victor: I don't wanna talk about Vivian.

Vivian: [Thinking] I'll bet you don't. But Maggie can't stay off the subject. She must sense my presence here.

Maggie: Well, I don't wanna talk about her either. But I get the feeling that she's part of the reason that you told me to walk away and not come back.

Victor: All I can tell you is that I'm dealing with the situation. And I'm dealing with it my way, not the Maggie Horton way.

Maggie: Well, it seems like it's taking a terrible toll on you.

Victor: I'm doing what has to be done.

Maggie: Can you at least tell me if Vivian is a part of it?

Victor: No.

Maggie: Hmm, well, since I drove all the way over here to see if you were all right... can I ask another question, and maybe get an answer?

Victor: I'll think about it.

Maggie: Fair enough. The day you married Vivian... I said to myself... "He's taking one for the team. He's doing this to protect someone. Maybe it's someone in his family." Was I right?

Vivian: [Thinking] Taking one for the team? Of all the-- damn you, Maggie Horton!

Kate: Actually, Chad, we just had some fairly upsetting information given to us. So I--

Stefano: Katherine. Katherine. Let the boy come in.

Chad: I won't stay long. I just wanted to come by and thank you again for sticking your neck out for me and trying to get me a job at your husband's company. And I'm sorry if I was rude running out of here the way I did.

Kate: Yes, I-I heard about that. You were--apparently, you thought that you were dismissed?

Chad: Still, there's no excuse for the way I behaved. Anyway, I wanted you to know that what I said when I was leaving... it's true. But I'll say it--I'll say it more politely now. I don't think this would be a good idea to have this job.

Stefano: Mm. You want to make it on your own. I mean, I admire that. Hey, I was the same way when I was your age.

Kate: Of course Chad needs to do what he thinks is right. I mean, that goes without saying.

Stefano: Look, if you change your mind again, hmm? We'll talk about it. All right? After all, things are not always set in stone, you know. [Chuckles] Listen, sweetheart.

Kate: Yes?

Stefano: I told Elvis I'd meet him at the hospital, all right? I'll see you later. Ciao. Bella. Ciao.

Chad: I'll just take off too, so.

Kate: Not so fast. I wanna know why, after I put myself out to get you a job at my husband's company, you rejected the offer.

Chad: Well, because you weren't doing it for me, you were doing it for Mr. DiMera, and you wouldn't tell me why.

Victor: The day of my wedding, you offered me a ride to the airport. An escape.

Vivian: [Thinking] Of all the--I should've nailed her when I had a chance.

Victor: If you'd just made that offer a little earlier, I don't know where we'd be right now... but it wouldn't be in a mausoleum, I can tell you that.

Brady: Oh, uh... sorry, am I interrupting?

Vivian: [Thinking] Yes, you are, you neurotic, drunken fool. And I've never been more happy to see you. Tell her everything, Brady.

EJ: This happened because you were trying to help me. Excuse me. I'm, um...Arianna Hernandez' friend--attorney.

Nurse: I'm sorry about what happened to her.

EJ: Yeah. I just wish that there was something that I could do. And I was wondering, maybe if I could have her phone, I could call some of her friends and inform them? Is something wrong?

Nurse: I was thinking that her phone was probably in her purse.

EJ: It's not here now?

Nurse: The police brought it in, but now it's gone.

Kate: What could I have possibly been doing for my husband by hiring you?

Chad: I don't know, but that's what you said.

Kate: Well, you know, you've made a habit of misunderstanding me, 'cause I--as I remember, the first time I offered you a job, you accused me of going cougar on you.

Chad: I didn't come right out and accuse you. And it was--I'm sorry about that, but there was something going on--I was just wrong about what it was.

Kate: Chad, I knew you lost your mother. I knew you were estranged from your father. I thought I could help you. That's why I offered you a job.

Chad: Look, you--you wanna stick to that story, that's fine. But if I can make it without a mother or a father, surely I can make it without your help.

Kate: [Scoffs] My... you little fool. You need me more than you know.

Rafe: Oh, thank you, Father Matt. I'll meet you outside her room. And Father... I think you should hurry. Any change?

Walters: No. Her vital signs are about the same.

Rafe: I just got off the phone with our priest, he's on his way.

Walters: I can only imagine how painful this must be for you.

Rafe: I haven't even told our mother yet. Or her little sister. Arianna was-- is like Gabi's second mother.

Walters: You had said that you and Arianna hadn't been getting along. There's still time to tell her how you feel.

Rafe: Yeah, I did. I did. I just...I hope she heard me. I should go make those calls.

Gabi: Arianna always keeps her purse so neat. Mine's got cookie crumbs on the bottom, movie stubs, pens that don't write. I better put everything back the way it was or she'll kill me when she--

Will: You're gonna see her again. She's gonna want her purse back. The doctors at the university hospital are the best.

Gabi: [Sigh] Everything was going great for her. She got engaged to Brady, she just--she got a great job at the TV station. Then it was like her life just fell apart. She was getting it together. Why did this have to happen to her?

Will: Yeah... I know.

[Phone ringing]

Gabi: Rafe. Rafe? Is there any news?

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, and it's not good.

Gabi: Oh, my God, did she...?

Rafe: Listen, I just need you to get down to the hospital as soon as possible.

Gabi: What happened? The doctor said she was gonna be okay.

Rafe: I'll answer all your questions when you get here, just hurry. I love you.

Gabi: I love you, too. [Crying] It's really bad.

Stefano: [Sigh] [Tapping on counter] So... how is she?

EJ: She was doing okay when she came out of the surgery, but then some kind of complication. Her heart... anyway, they say it's just a Matter of time.

Stefano: Are you sure?

EJ: Yeah.

Stefano: [Exhales] I'm sorry.

EJ: Father, before this happened, she wanted to talk to me. She knows who shot me.

Stefano: You seem very sure about that.

EJ: You know, Father, I have had quite a life of privilege. I've been rich in many ways. But when it came to friends... my wallet's always been a little bit light. All she really wanted was for me to know the truth. She's been... one of the best friends I've ever had.

Stefano: Well, she must've found some kind of proof.

EJ: She said she had something that she wanted to show me.

Stefano: Uh-huh. I wonder where that something is now.

EJ: [Sigh] Well, she had a handbag. I spoke to the nurse about it. It was left in the nurse's station by the police, but then it just disappeared.

Stefano: You said that Arianna was trying to get away from William when she had her accident.

EJ: Yeah.

Stefano: Has William been here through the hospital since the purse has been left?

EJ: Shouldn't be too hard to find out.

Stefano: Good. Because we owe it to Arianna to find out what it is that she wanted to show us.

Gabi: I must look like a mess.

Will: No, no.

Gabi: I can't let Arianna see me like this. Not if it's the last-- I've got to go.

Will: [Exhales] Voice mail? Mom, it's me. I don't know if your phone is dead, or what, but I really hope you get this message soon. I found Arianna's purse. The camera is not in it. I'm gonna keep looking. But there's something else that you need to know. I can't tell you over the phone, but as soon as you get this message, call Rafe. It's really important.

Rafe: Doctors don't even know if you can hear me right now. Obviously I hope you can. Listen...I want to tell you I'm sorry. Yeah, I've been so caught up in trying to protect Sami and her kids from EJ, and I've been so angry at you for...befriending him. I just didn't realize that you needed me. Big brothers are supposed to watch out for their little sisters, you know? That's what they're supposed to do. I wasn't there for you. I'm sorry. God, I'm so sorry.

Kate: Sorry, Madeline. I can't keep your secret anymore. Well, you're dead. Chad knows that something's up and I can't have him getting me into trouble. Anyway, sweetie, if you didn't want your secret to come out, you shouldn't have put Stefano's name on the birth certificate. [Sigh] Back in the day, you certainly had enough guys who could've been your baby daddy. But I think--I think this will go really smoothly. Certainly, Stefano has been in this situation before. And I think Chad--Chad deserves a better role model than that moron D.A. that you pawned off as his dad. And...if things don't go smoothly, at least you won't be around to say who told the kid. Yes, Chris, hi, it's me. I need to arrange to have something delivered, but I cannot have any connection to it whatsoever. Yes, exactly. Okay. Yeah, that sounds good. As long as there is no way that I can be traced to it. Thank you.

Stefano: All right... do you agree that the best way to honor Arianna is to finish what she started?

EJ: You know Rafe holds me responsible for what happened to her.

Stefano: How the hell could he say such a thing? The idiot. You were not driving the car.

EJ: Oh, I know. But she was helping me. I encouraged her to go on this crusade.

Stefano: Arianna was doing what she wanted to do.

EJ: [Softly] Yeah. She would've been able to do it if Brady Black had still been part of her life.

Stefano: Right, but he not, right? Okay, but whatever she had is still out there.

EJ: I just--just thought of something.

Stefano: What?

EJ: There is still something that I can do for her.

Stefano: What?

Maggie: It's good to see you, Brady.

Brady: It's good to see you too. I-I saw your car out front, I was just wondering what was going on.

Victor: Maggie knew I was here. She came by to see me.

Maggie: And it's time for me to be going.

Brady: Well, don't leave on my account, please.

Maggie: I'm not. I have things to do. Take care of yourself.

Brady: I'm very sorry I walked in on you two.

Victor: Oh, don't worry about it. Maybe you can get romantic when there's a live woman in a coffin a few feet away, but me... I find it a little hard to concentrate.

Brady: Does that mean you are having second thoughts?

Victor: No.

Brady: You know, I know if it was the old you, you could probably go on like this indefinitely. But the guy you turn into when Maggie's around... not so sure about him.

Vivian: [Thinking] Which is exactly why the Widow Horton should be in here instead of me. When I get out of here, well, we'll just see.

Will: [Breathing heavily] This is all my fault. If I hadn't been arguing with her--

Rafe: Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop. Don't. Don't do that to yourself. Trust me, there's plenty of blame to go around. The last time I was with Arianna, I called her a liar. I think just now she forgave me. I hope she did, anyway.

Father Matt: Rafe... do you want to be present?

Rafe: Yeah.

Will: I'll stay here.

[Door closes]

Father Matt: Arianna? Do you wish to be forgiven for your sins?

Brady: You know, as the person who got you into this mess, I think it's--I think it's my duty to say we should end it.

Victor: By letting Vivian out?

Vivian: [Thinking] Yes! Just say yes!

Brady: [Sigh] I see the way you look at Maggie. I see the way she looks at you. You really think the two of you are gonna have any kind of a shot together while we keep Vivian in this box?

Victor: Well, then the only recourse is to keep her in the box.

Brady: How do you figure that?

Victor: Vivian has already made her terms clear. We let her out, she comes back from her "trip," and resumes her position as my wife. Either that or she goes public with what we've done to her. In which case, we'd be put off Maggie permanently, the two of us.

Vivian: [Thinking] I don't know what's more nauseating--the toxic fumes or this conversation. Why is it all about Maggie, Maggie, Maggie? As God is my witness, I will get out of here, and I will get even with Maggie Horton.

Brady: Do you really think you can have it both ways?

Victor: Sure as hell gonna give it a try.

[Phone ringing]

Brady: Oh, God. As if this day didn't just get better. EJ's calling me.

Victor: Answer it.

Brady: Whatever you're selling, EJ, I'm not buying it.

EJ: Just listen. Arianna's in the hospital.

Brady: Why?

EJ: She was hit by a car. It's bad.

Brady: How bad?

EJ: Just get down here. All right, and be quick. Or you won't have time to say good-bye.

Father Matt: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. I'm sure that Arianna is now in a state of grace.

Rafe: Thank you, Father.

Gabi: State of grace? No, no, this should've never happened! This is just wrong!

Rafe: Gabi.

Gabi: [Sobbing]

Rafe: Gabi! Gabi! Gabi, please! Will, she shouldn't be alone.

Will: She won't be.

Rafe: Okay, thank you.

Stefano: Brady is coming?

EJ: Yes. Yep.

Stefano: Now, then, you did something good for Arianna.

EJ: I can't help but wonder, how do you think Nicole is going to feel when she finds out about this?

Stefano: Probably very little, knowing her.

EJ: She just had to have Brady, you know. She framed Arianna for being that Salem Mugger. The poor girl's life was never the same again.

Stefano: Ah. The poor woman. [Clicks tongue]

EJ: I'm going to have justice, Father. For both of us. She knew something that would help me get my children back, and I'm going to find out what it is.

[Doorbell rings]

Kate: Perfect timing. Hi.

Messenger: I'm here to make a pickup.

Kate: Oh, um... well, there's an envelope over here.

Messenger: I'll just get it myself.

Kate: Okay. Thank you!

Brady: It's true.

Rafe: How'd you find out?

Brady: Uh, EJ. EJ told me. Rafe, I'm sorry.

Rafe: Yeah. [Chuckles] Yeah, me too.

Brady: Hey, uh, you mind if-- you mind if I have a minute with her?

Rafe: No, of course. Sure. Just, um... come find me when you leave, I don't want her to be alone.

Brady: Okay. Ari... what happened? What the hell happened? To us? We had... remember the plans we had? Remember the dreams we talked about? Remember what we were gonna do? The things we were gonna do? I was so happy with you. Even when we decided to separate, I told myself that everything was gonna be okay because I would have you in my life somehow. And this happens to you. Why the hell did it have to turn out this way?

Victor: [Sigh]

Vivian: You did the right thing when you told Maggie to go and not come back.

Victor: She knew I didn't mean it.

Vivian: Yes, but she's asking questions about me, and that's not gonna stop.

Victor: I'll handle it.

Vivian: Can you? Brady's wavering. Nicole's a loose cannon. And me? Well, you have to keep me under wraps. And all this for a woman who won't even admit she's attracted to you.

Victor: Maggie and I don't need any protestations of love.

Vivian: Oh, Victor. She won't give you the time of day when she finds out what you've done.

Victor: Well, then I'll just have to make sure she doesn't find out. Won't I? Good night, Mrs. Kiriakis. Wherever you are.

Vivian: Well... she's going to find out. I'll make sure of that. And then that aging coquette will be out of your life forever. If one of those bottles should happen to fall no more bottles of beer on the wall, oh, God. Should I do it again? Twice is enough. [Sigh] I never thought it'd be so boring lying in a coffin waiting for poisonous fumes to make you go mad. [Sigh] Oh, well... I'll give it one last shot. My, my, my! Look who's here. Nicole. How fortuitous. Just the one I wanted to see. Hello.

Brady: You make so much of my life, this just seems so wrong to me. You're too beautiful. You're too smart. You're too alive to be hooked up to a damn machine. And I don't even know if you can hear me. Did you know that I still cared about you? Did you know I always will? I don't know how you would know because I haven't been around. I've been too damn preoccupied with torturing some disgusting old woman. I'm sorry, Ari, that seems to be the man that I've become.

Gabi: [Crying]

Will: Gabi, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.

Gabi: She could die. My sister, she could be gone forever.

Will: Gabi, I never meant...

Gabi: What? What were you gonna say?

Will: I was... I was just trying to get through to her. And I don't know why she had to run away from me.

Gabi: She ran into the street because you were yelling at her. That's what happened, isn't it? This is all your fault. If she dies, it'll be all your fault!

EJ: I've been looking for you.

Rafe: Oh, for God's sake, not now.

EJ: Yes, now.

Rafe: My sister is dying.

EJ: Your sister was rather desperate to tell me something. She knew something. She was going to tell me.

Arianna: It was Sami who shot EJ.

EJ: Don't you think it's about time you told me the truth, Rafe?

On the next "Days of Our Lives" --

Kate: Oh, my God! It's you!

Sami (to Will): Well, we're gonna find a way to make this right.

EJ (to Rafe): You're denying your sister her dying wish.
