Vivian: [Laughs] I am surprised that you could even come here. It must bring up very unpleasant memories.
Carly: I was gonna tell you to go to hell, but you're already there, married to that awful, awful man. Even he loathes you. No wonder you hang out in a mausoleum. Maybe--maybe you should move Lawrence in here too. That way, you could visit.
Vivian: You are not going anywhere.
Kate: You think Sami shot EJ?
Stefano: Yes. [Sighs] Except..
Stefano: I mean, she had won. She had the disk that Elvis says he took Sydney, all right? I mean... [Laughs] Why would she risk everything?
Kate: Sami, listen to me. I just heard EJ tell Stefano that he's going to take the children and disappear tomorrow.
Stefano: The timing just does not make sense, huh? Why, then?
Kate: Well, Sami has an alibi.
Stefano: Ah! Nobody in the world knows better than I that alibis have nothing to do with innocence or guilt.
Kate: Yes, but it's really like you said. She doesn't have a motive. I mean, she's holding all the cards.
Will: Do you mind if I talk to my mom alone for a minute?
Rafe: Oh, sure. Hey, I'm sorry to barge in like this.
Sami: No, you didn't.
Will: No, it's okay. It's okay. I need to talk to her for a little while.
Rafe: Yeah, sure. Listen, will, I want you to hang in there. Everything's gonna be okay.
Sami: Thank you, Will. Thank you for not telling Rafe what we were talking about.
Will: Mom, you have to be honest with me right now, and if you don't, I swear to you, I will go to Grandpa Roman and Uncle Bo. I swear.
Sami: Okay. I did it. I shot EJ.
Melanie: I have to tell you, I do believe the lady doth protest too much.
Maggie: Melanie, Victor is married.
Melanie: Annulled. Easy. Besides, I'm pretty sure both parties in a marriage have to be human.
Maggie: Making jokes about Vivian doesn't change the fact that he married her of his own free will.
Melanie: He did not, and we both know that. Now, when you told me you were going on vacation, I gave you my blessing.
Maggie: Oh! How magnanimous of you.
Melanie: But that's because I thought you were going for a purpose.
Melanie: Like, to see your daughters or to finally take that cruise you were gonna go on, but now I see you're just running away.
Maggie: Discretion is the better part of valor.
Melanie: You're afraid of your feelings.
[Knock on door]
Melanie: That's probably Victor right now, on his way to tell you he's going to Santo Domingo for a quickie divorce.
Maggie: Oh, my, you have a vivid imagination.
Maggie: [Gasps] Brady.
Brady: Hi. I'm glad you're here. Um, I need to see you about something pretty important.
Arianna: So, um... I've been thinking, and... well, your relationship with Sami, it was like... a perfect storm, you know? I mean, it was just all those things that you two did to each other, like, right from the beginning, and it just kept escalating and... what you did was... it was horrible. But you don't deserve this. And I know that you believe... what you did was wrong, and you were trying to change. You were trying to be a good father... and a good man. So here I am. And I'm asking you to fight. Think of everything that you have done for your children. You can't give up. You must fight so that you can see them again.
Will: I was really hoping that you were going to prove me wrong.
Sami: I'm sorry. Oh, God, Will, I'm so sorry you were there. I'm so sorry you have to go through this.
Will: You're sorry I saw you? You're not sorry you shot him?
Melanie: I'm gonna leave you two alone to talk, and you think about what I said. Bye.
Brady: What was that all about?
Maggie: Nothing, nothing. What's up?
Brady: Um, Vivian is holding a memorial for my mom, and I think I need to be there.
Maggie: Hmm. I guess you probably do.
Brady: For Grandfather's sake, at least, you know? It's just weird, Maggie. It's weird.
Brady: I don't even think Grandfather wants it, you know? And--but it's happening. You know, it's gonna happen.
Maggie: Well, Vivian is a formidable person.
Brady: Ah, she is, so here's my pitch to you, okay? I think I-I would get through it a lot better if you were there with me. I just--I know it's not really fair of me to ask you, but I know you liked my mother very much.
Maggie: I did, Brady. [Sighs] I wish I could be there, but I can't.
Vivian: Don't you say Lawrence's name to me, you understand?
Carly: Let go of me.
Vivian: And Victor doesn't loathe me. We have a very unconventional loving relationship!
Carly: That's a load of crap! He married you so that Bo wouldn't kill you. Talk about truly loving your son! You stay away from me and Melanie and Philip and Daniel and Chloe, and if you really want to make Victor happy, you crawl in there yourself.
Vivian: [Sighs] What was that, Carly? Why are you so concerned over poor, vulnerable Chloe, and why did she tell you our plans? There's something going on between the two of them. They're thick as thieves, and I'm going to find out why.
Arianna: Okay, so I actually think I can say this, because my brother's not here and, well, you're unconscious. The two of you are a lot alike. And maybe that's why, in spite of everything everyone says about you, in spite of the horrible things that you've done, I think there's one hell of a guy in there.
Sami: Will you please just-- just hear me out?
Will: You want to talk me into covering for you?
Sami: Well, right now, I just want you to understand, so you stop looking at me like that.
Will: You did not have to try and kill him, Mom. What--what he did was horrible. What--what about Johnny? What about Sydney?
Sami: They're who I was trying to protect.
Will: Oh, my--give me a break, Mom!
Sami: No, you give me a break! You want to talk? Then let's talk. But you've got to listen to me. You've got to give me two minutes to explain.
Arianna: No, he's the same.
Rafe: Oh. That's weird, 'cause you seem upset.
Arianna: [Laughs] I'm sorry, am I not supposed to be feeling this way? 'Cause I think--I don't know, a young guy with two kids getting shot in the head's kind of sad.
Rafe: Hmm, yeah, all right. Why don't you start by telling me the truth?
Arianna: The truth?
Rafe: Yeah. Want to try that for once?
Rafe: I was hoping maybe Brady had broken the cycle, but evidently, that's not the case. You just can't help it, can you? You always fall for the bad boy or smooth-talking criminal.
Stefano: [Exhales] I must say that I am a little surprised that you are arguing her case.
Kate: No, I'm not.
Stefano: You know, there was a time you took every minute of every day, trying convict her of a capital offense, and I wish to God that you were able to have pulled it off. Look what she has done to my son. I mean, look at the pain that she has caused him.
Kate: You need to think about your blood pressure.
Stefano: And now this! Katherine... [Sighs] He could die. My only son could die because of her.
Kate: No. You don't know it's her. There's no way that you can know it's her.
Stefano: No, no. But someone else could carry out her desires.
Kate: Rafe is not going to risk coming into this house.
Stefano: Oh, no, no, no, no, it's not Rafe. William.
Sami: Look, I don't even know where to start. I don't even know how to begin to explain to you what it felt like to find out what EJ had done to Sydney.
Will: I do know. She is my sister.
Sami: She's my daughter. She's my daughter, and it is my job. She's depending on me to take care of her, to protect her, and I hand her back to that guy. I hand her back to the man who did that to her. He did it to torture me. And--and I let him. And then, on a whim, I-I find out that he just decided he wanted to marry me, he wanted to make me fall in love with him. So I'm standing there, listening to that recording, and it's humiliating and embarrassing, and it makes me feel like a horrible parent, and--and so, what do I do?
Will: You shot him.
Sami: No, no, no! I took my kids and I left. That is what I did.
Will: I saw you leave that house with a gun, Mom, not your kids.
Sami: Will, when I found out what he did, I took my kids and I left. And then I found out what he was going to do.
Sami: Kate called me in the middle of the night. Kate heard Stefano and EJ talking. EJ, he was gonna take them. EJ was planning to take Johnny and Sydney away again. He was gonna disappear... to God knows where and make sure that we never saw them again, and I couldn't let that happen. I just couldn't.
Vivian: There's something there. Something.
Chloe: Oh, my God.
Carly: It's a boy.
Chloe: He's perfect.
Carly: He's just what we wanted.
Both: Hail Satan. Hail Satan. Hail Satan.
Vivian: [Gasps] Well, maybe if Carly was the one who was pregnant. [Sighs] Gus... Gus, my work is never done. I thought a little rest and R&R after I got miss Horton in the sarcophagus, but no, now I have to solve the Manning-Lane secret.
Gus: Madame, I've come to a decision.
Vivian: But I don't really care right now.
Gus: If you go through with your plan to inter Maggie Horton, you'll have to do it on your own. I refuse to be a part of this.
Maggie: I'm sorry to bail out on you. I'm--I'm actually leaving town.
Maggie: As soon as I can.
Brady: Does this have something too with what you were talking to Melanie about?
Maggie: I'm sorry.
Brady: Maggie, come on. Why do you have to leave so urgently like this? I don't understand.
Maggie: Uh, I'm just sorry that I'm leaving you. Um, look, I'm gonna give you the name of someone that you can call if you need to talk, okay? Here.
Brady: Uh, no, I don't--I don't like this. I came here because I was worried about me, and now I'm very worried about you.
Maggie: I'm sorry, Brady. I made up my mind. I have to leave Salem.
Arianna: I know you're angry, so I'm gonna let that one go.
Rafe: Are you gonna walk away from me?
Rafe: You know that I stood there for months, watching that jerk play Sami, that I was there when he told her that Sydney was dead, and now you're gonna stand there and tell me that the guy is not a bad guy?
Arianna: He could die, Rafe.
Rafe: So what? So what if he does? I mean, he certainly deserves it, doesn't he?
Arianna: No! No, no one deserves that!
Arianna: What happened to believing that people cannot take the law into their own hands? Someone shot a defenseless man in the head at close range. There's no justification in the world for that.
Will: Okay, I get that you had to stop him. But that didn't mean you had to try and kill him.
Sami: That wasn't my plan.
Will: You--you could have told -- You could have told Rafe.
Will: Why not?
Sami: Because I didn't know what he would do, and I certainly wasn't gonna let him get in trouble for me. He's already paid enough for getting mixed up with me.
Will: Yeah, that's true. Maybe you could have gone to a lawyer. You could have told Grandpa Roman. You could have told Uncle Bo.
Sami: Right, 'cause we've done such a great job of stopping the DiMeras? I wasn't thinking clearly. Someday you're gonna have a kid of your own, and you're gonna know what it feels like. I just reacted.
Will: You really think he would do that?
Sami: He already has.
Will: Yeah, I know.
Sami: Look, I didn't go there to kill him, I swear to you. I swear that it was not my plan. I went there to argue with him. To negotiate, to beg. To plead. But no one was around. I couldn't find him, so I went upstairs, looking for him and, uh, and I found him in my bedroom. He was passed out on my bed. Get up! I am not letting you take my children from me! It is not happening, EJ! You get up! And he reeked of alcohol... and there was stuff from the wedding there, and--and this picture that Johnny had drawn of all of us together... and he had a gun in his hand. I think he was gonna kill himself.
Sami: I don't know if he changed his mind or if he just passed out. But even laying there, all I could think about is how he's always in control, how it's always his way, and he doesn't care who he hurts. And that every morning he woke up, knowing that Sydney was okay. And every morning, I woke up with one split second of peace before the world would come crashing back to me, and I would realize that my daughter was gone, and I didn't know if she was okay, and I didn't know if she was alive or dead. I didn't know if someone was taking care of her or...she or if they were hurting her. All I knew, looking at EJ lying there is that I couldn't let it happen again. I picked up the gun... and I shot him.
Sami: I wasn't even really thinking about it. I just did it. And I'm just staring there, and he's... and then I'm just staring at his head and the blood, and all I could think about was getting out of there. And I ended up at the pier, and I threw the gun away in the river, and... [Water splashes] And even knowing what a horrible thing I had done... I knew I had protected my kids. I had stopped him from hurting them. And I went back to Rafe's and, uh... and he was still asleep and I thought, oh, my God, maybe I'm gonna get away with this. Maybe--maybe God is on my side this time. Maybe he thinks it's okay because--because no one saw me do it. But obviously, I was wrong. I don't--I don't think that God thinks it's okay.
Melanie: [Clears throat] So, is that what you wanted to talk to Maggie about? The name of the nearest bar?
Brady: Is she all right?
Brady: Do you know she's taking off? She didn't seem like herself today.
Melanie: So she's still leaving. I was kind of hoping you could talk her out of that.
Brady: Couldn't do it. Haven't played my trump card.
Melanie: Your what card?
Brady: My trump card. She was--she was talking turkey to me the other day, how she-- she doesn't think is is a very good idea, right?
Melanie: Nobody does.
Brady: But she's still leaving. I don't like it. I don't like it, Melanie.
Melanie: Where is that coming from?
Brady: My family. I'm so sick of the games. I'm sick of the drama. I mean, I should be used to it by now. My grandfather is--is--well, he married Medusa, you know? And then Medusa's using my mom's body as a prop in one of her stupid plays, Melanie.
Melanie: Brady, easy.
Brady: And Maggie is the one leaving. Good, wholesome Maggie, one of the best persons in the world, and she's the one being pushed out of town. Here, finish that for me. I got something I got to do.
Maggie: Oh, Melissa, I know I have to think through this drink thing. Anticipating how good that first sip will feel, I have--I've got to remind myself--heh--about the headache in the morning and the shakes. [Sighs] Melissa... [Clears throat] I really do have to think through this thing about Victor, and now I know I--I have to go somewhere else to do it.
Vivian: Oh, Gus, I haven't got time to talk you out of your hissy fit. There's too much to do. Now, as a fall-back, I want you to have this remote. I've found that when burying people alive, you can't be too careful. As a matter of fact, here's another one, just in case.
Gus: This is too much. Two remotes?
Vivian: No, actually, there are three. I've got one.
Gus: You've gone way over the top.
Vivian: Oh, Gus. Gussie! Come on!
Gus: I won't help you do this.
Vivian: But you're my right arm. You're my go-to guy.
Gus: Not anymore.
Vivian: Now, I know how sensitive you are. Just think of it as, um, Maggie not being buried alive, but her having some alone time.
Gus: No, it's just wrong.
Vivian: But--but think. When we're done, that spa in Baja, just the two of us.
Gus: You can't buy me off with a high colonic. I won't be a part of this and that, as--as they say, is that.
Vivian: All right, fine! But don't think you can come crawling back! Just get your Joan Collins scrapbook and get the hell out of here! [Sighs] Well, it's just as well. When you want something done right, you do it yourself.
Kate: I know that you are grief-stricken about your son. I understand that but now you've gone too far. Will is my grandson. He means the world to me, and you will never again even suggest that he had anything to do with this.
Stefano: You would not be this upset unless it, uh, made sense.
Kate: I don't care if it makes sense! I don't care. You even cast a little suspicion in his direction, you and I, we are at war.
Will: I have to ask you a question.
Sami: You're the one calling the shots.
Will: What about Grandma? If she called you and told you what EJ was planning and she did that right before EJ was shot, doesn't she suspect that you did it?
Sami: Yeah. I think she does. But she's not gonna say anything.
Will: Why not? She hates you.
Sami: Yeah. But she knows that Stefano will kill her if he finds out that she betrayed him.
Will: No, Mom. Okay. Stefano loves her. He really does.
Sami: He is not who you think he is. Maybe he does love her but, Will, I'm telling you now, there are strings attached.
Will: You know, he has been so nice to me.
Sami: Will, listen to me. You do not cross Stefano DiMera. If he finds out what Kate did, she is roadkill.
Will: So, uh, both you and Grandma are in trouble.
Sami: And once again, you are the kid with way too much responsibility on your shoulders because of something stupid that I have done.
Sami: I'm sorry. I'm so sor--
Arianna: All right, I gonna make you a promise, EJ. Are you listening? I will find the person who did this to you. I won't stop until I do.
Stefano: You're overreacting.
Kate: I don't care.
Stefano: And it is not a good idea to declare war when you have nothing in your arsenal.
Kate: Oh, I'll come up with something.
Stefano: And your enemy has what it takes to send you up the river.
Kate: I won't be taking that trip alone.
Stefano: Oh, Katherine, Katherine, Katherine. The strain is starting to show. Let's, uh, how do they say? Uh, rewind. The last five minutes just did not happen.
Kate: And shouldn't happen again.
Stefano: Ah, I certainly hope not. [Groans]
Kate: Well, I guess one thing can be said about a tragedy like this. Isn't it just so true that it can bring families closer?
Stefano: It could, Katherine. You know how I feel about William.
Kate: I know how you feel about Elvis.
Stefano: So we have, you know, a potential, uh... problem, okay? Now if your grandson tried to kill my son, then yes, we do have issues,
Kate: Ah! But blended families do face obstacles, don't they?
Stefano: Okay, but we haven't gotten there yet, all right? So I would suggest that we be very careful how we say things in the interim, hmm? Words can hurt.
Kate: I agree. So let's not get ahead of ourselves, shall we?
Stefano: Besides, maybe who shot Elvis will be somebody that we will, uh, enjoy annihilating. Like Nicole.
Kate: [Laughs] Yes, yes, and I would love to see things go your way for a change.
Stefano: Ah. [Chuckles] I'm gonna find out who did this. And as much as I hate to say it, no matter who it is, oh, God, are they gonna pay. [Sighs]
Will: You can't fix this with a hug, Mom. I'm not three.
Sami: That's not what I was trying to do.
Will: It felt like it was, Like you just wanted me to forget what happened.
Sami: I just wanted you to know that I love you.
Will: Now, if I keep quiet...
Sami: Don't, don't. I will love you always. Always. No matter what you do.
Will: I don't know what to do. I-I don't want to hurt you.
Sami: I know that.
Will: But this isn't right, Mom. This isn't--it isn't right.
Rafe: [Sighs] Looks like Will's still pretty upset.
Sami: You don't know the half of it.
Rafe: Well, here's what I do know. You're a great mom, and he's a great kid. It's all gonna work out.
Sami: [Sighs] God, I hope so. Oh, Rafe, I hope so.
Vivian: Well, I must say, I'm a little nervous, working with someone so new, late in the day, but you come highly recommended. Miss Deville posted rave reviews about you. Oh, well, it's really quit straightforward. You see, I lure Miss Horton to the pier and then you--well, how shall I say this? You spirit her away, here to my mausoleum. Yes, yes, it is fun having one's own mausoleum. What? Oh, yes, yes, that--I am that Vivian Alamain. Oh, that's so sweet. Thank you. Oh, I think we're going to get along splendidly. I love meeting new people. [Laughs] Bye. Ah! Maggie. Maggie, Maggie, how you're going to wish you had went when the going was good.
Brady: What the hell are you doing, Vivian?
Vivian: Brady, you're--you're a day early. You're much, much too early.
Brady: Why do you look like you're gonna jump out of your skin, Viv?
Carly: She's just so damn Vivian! I confront her--and she's hanging out in a mausoleum, by the way--and I tell her that you told me that she tried to have me killed, and she--she treats me like I'm a telemarketer interrupting her busy day.
Chloe: She knows that I told you and that we're both on the same side now.
Carly: You're right. Look, she's not gonna give me the satisfaction of showing me that she's upset, but she does know that she has to leave us both alone or face the consequences.
Chloe: Again, thank you.
Carly: You don't have to thank me. Just, I want you to rest. Stop worrying.
Chloe: It's not that easy.
Carly: We got through the paternity test.
Chloe: Because you took care of everything.
Carly: And now you don't have to worry about Vivian. You really don't, Chloe.
Chloe: I won't, I promise.
Carly: Good. I'll talk to you later. Bye.
Daniel: Why would Chloe have to be worried about Vivian?
Vivian: Just go.
Brady: Why? Is it like a wedding or something? I'm not supposed to see the casket before the ceremony?
Vivian: Just go. This is not funny.
Brady: We agree on something. This is not funny. I don't like that this thing is open right now, Vivian. What is this? What the hell is this? What the hell is that, a TV monitor? What are you doing here, Vivian?
Stephanie: Then who else doesn't want Chloe to know that she's not carrying Daniel's baby?
Daniel: There is something you're not telling me.
Brady: You went way too far.
