Shields: So should I tell her or will you?
Bo: I'll take care of it. Hope... there's been a change of plans.
Hope: A change of plans? What are you talking-- what did you do?
Bo: Nothing. We're going with plan "b," since you insist on pleading guilty.
Hope: Bo, please, how many times do I have to say it? I'm pleading guilty because I want to see justice done.
Bo: Yeah. Justice will be served. You trust me?
Brady: Mom, I wish I knew you. Then I'd have someone to remember. You know, sometimes I think that if you were still here... my life would be a little different.
EJ: So... you know, we've talked a lot about what it means to be married. Don't look afraid.
EJ: Well, we have.
Sami: Okay, yes.
EJ: We've talked about what it means, you know...
EJ: To our children and to our families. But I think there's one small part of this that we have been avoiding.
EJ: What? This part.
Sami: [Giggles] Oh.
EJ: That part?
Sami: That, yes.
EJ: That part? Yeah. Remember now?
Sami: [Laughing] I remember.
EJ: So, listen. Stefano's out. The kids are asleep. I think you...and I... need to go upstairs and see what marriage is all about.
Sami: You're on.
Nicole: All right. Come on, stand up.
Rafe: Come on.
Nicole: Let's go. Come on!
Rafe: Come on.
Nicole: You're getting a pat-down, buddy. I learned how to do a proper one in prison. Stand up.
Rafe: Oh, my God. I am not wearing a wire. I swear.
Nicole: Yeah, right. Like I'm--up--supposed to believe a word you say.
Rafe: You can trust me.
Nicole: Mm-hmm, really?
Nicole: Okay, three of the biggest lies. The check's in the mail, you can trust me, and I-- ooh, gosh!
Nicole: Okay, I'm all right, everyone's okay. I'm all right, everybody.
Rafe: Tell the police.
[Clears throat] Mind if I hang out here for a minute, or two, or...?
Rafe: That's fine by me.
Nicole: Mm, wow, yeah, is right. What was that?
Arianna: Yeah, what was that?
EJ: Whoa, Johnny!
EJ: Hey, what are you doing out of bed?
Sami: [Giggles] [Clears throat]
Julie: Where do you get off asking if she can trust you when you are the reason that she's stuck here in the first place?
Doug: Sweetheart, the question was for hope.
Julie: You abandoned your marriage, you bring another woman into your home. No wonder she went off the deep end. It's all because of you, Bo, and the things you did to her.
Bo: Can I get a word in here?
Julie: I suppose we should be grateful that you didn't walk in with Carly on your arm!
Doug: Julie, stop! Now Bo is here to help.
Julie: Now he cares. Well somebody had better. Because she's given up, look at her. She wants to plead guilty, she doesn't want to have any defense whatsoever. You wanna help her, Bo? You really wanna help her? Give her a reason to fight.
Adrienne: Her sentencing is today?
Justin: This afternoon.
Adrienne: My God. All that anger, all that hate... where did it come from? Why didn't anyone spot it?
Justin: I have no idea. But I have to admit... it's got me thinking. About us... our life together.
Adrienne: Once upon a time.
Justin: Yeah, once upon a time. Everything was great.
Adrienne: It pretty much was, yeah.
Justin: Where did we go wrong?
Arianna: Are you out of your freaking mind?
Nicole: Hey, look who's here.
Arianna: Oh, my God. Honest to God, I really, really did think that I saw it all. But what happens? I show up, and you are making out with the nut job that destroyed my life and Brady's life.
Rafe: Ari, listen.
Arianna: I'm sorry, I'm so rude, I just interrupted this lovely moment. How do you do it? How do you get the guys to just fall into your arms?
Nicole: Well, actually, I fell into his.
Arianna: Oh, wait a second. Oh, no, no, no, this isn't about wonderbitch here. No, no, no, this is about the other woman who sucked you into her life, right? This is about Sami? It's always about Sami, right?
EJ: Ah, well, I have no idea why he was awake. He was asleep before I got him into bed.
Sami: [Chuckles] I thought they were all napping.
EJ: It's fine. I don't think there's anything wrong with him watching his parents display a little bit of affection for one another. Especially when they're about to be married.
Sami: Right. I agree.
EJ: Where were we? Mm.
EJ: Hey... what's wrong?
Hope: What are they doing here?
Bo: Why shouldn't they be here?
Bailiff: All rise. Superior court of Salem county is now in session. Judge Karen Fitzpatrick presiding.
Judge Fitzpatrick: Please be seated. Counselors.
Jenkins: Beverly Jenkins for the people, your honor.
Shields: Jeffrey shields for the defense, your honor.
Judge Fitzpatrick: Thank you. For the record, the defendant has agreed to a plea of guilty, is that correct? And I'd like to hear directly from the defendant.
Hope: Yes, I'm guilty, your honor.
Nicole: Uh, I don't know what you're talking about, but Sami's not here.
Arianna: Yeah. You wanna bet?
Arianna: So let's see... you're making out with the one person that Sami hates the most. In public, in the middle of the day. There's only one explanation.
Rafe: Uh... Nicole somehow manages to tape EJ. Tape him saying that he's paid Anna to kidnap Sydney. So she blackmails EJ knowing that he'll do anything not to lose Sami. But she's smart, so she makes more than one copy of the CD so as not to get whacked. Sends one to her mother, and... that's what I've gotta do. I've gotta find one of the other CDs. Can you just--can you put a sock in it?
Arianna: So what were you thinking? That you two would be making out and Sami would see that, and all of a sudden she'd tell you how much she loves you? Is that what's going on here?
Rafe: You know what I'm thinking? It's none of your business.
Arianna: Really, okay. All right, brother. You go ahead then, I'm gonna get a drink.
Nicole: [Clears throat] So is that true? You just being nice to me because you wanna make Sami jealous?
Sami: Nothing's wrong. Nothing's wrong, it's just-- you know. Johnny just has bad timing.
EJ: Samantha... we don't have to do this if you don't want to.
Sami: I do. I do, it's just... I don't know, may-- okay, okay, Johnny broke the mood, I guess. [Sighs]
EJ: I understand. I understand completely.
Rafe: Hey, hey, hey, hey. I'm sorry. About all that, you know, she's--
Rafe: Listen, listen. You know, Sami and I--I mean... we're a lot like you and Brady. You know?
Rafe: There you go. Exactly, right? And now the two of us... the two of us, we're left out, waiting at the curb like a pile of trash, right? Wondering what hit us.
Nicole: Yeah, I just feel so lost sometimes.
Rafe: Yeah, so do I. I do, you know. Because Sami turned my life into a total train wreck. Just like Brady did to you. Right?
Nicole: 'Cause I was bad.
Rafe: Yeah, you were bad. You were bad, you did bad things... who cares, right? Who cares? Who doesn't?
Nicole: You. You.
Rafe: Me, please. I mean, come on.
Nicole: Seriously. You're like the perfect guy. I mean, you never do anything for the wrong reasons.
Rafe: Okay, maybe I don't. So with that said, you can't believe a word my sister says about sticking it to Sami. I'm not doing that.
Nicole: Really? You'd never do that?
Rafe: That's not how I roll.
Nicole: Oh, God. I don't know. I don't know what to believe.
Rafe: Well, yeah, 'cause you're drinking too much, that's why.
Nicole: You think?
Rafe: I know. Hey.
Rafe: Let's get outta here. I wanna make sure you get back to your place safely. Okay? Come on, let's go.
Nicole: All right.
Rafe: Let's go, let's go, easy. Easy, geez. Easy, easy.
Nicole: [Giggles] Oh.
Rafe: Come on.
Nicole: All right. Thank you. [Giggles] I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine.
Sami: I know this sounds nuts, I mean... [Clears throat] Well, we talked about having a formal wedding...
Sami: The church, band, and a party, and the whole thing. And... [Sighs] What do you think about having a real wedding night too?
EJ: You mean a traditional wedding night?
Sami: [Giggles] It's ridiculous, isn't it?
EJ: No, I don't think it's ridiculous at all.
Sami: I mean, we already have two kids together, it's just...
EJ: Samantha... my job is to make sure that all of your dreams come true. So if that's what you want, that's what you get.
Sami: [Exhales] EJ. You're perfect. Thank you.
Judge Fitzpatrick: Why have these names been added to the witness list, Mr. Shields?
Shields: Character witnesses for detective Brady, your honor.
Jenkins: This is the first time the people have seen this. Wow, we now have victims as character witnesses? That's got to be a first. I'm going to have to ask for a continuance, your honor.
Hope: No. No.
Judge Fitzpatrick: Your argument notwithstanding, I see no reason why this trial should not be expedited. Motion denied. We'll move on to oral argument.
Jenkins: Very well, your honor. But our deal with the defendant was firm, ten years. With time off for good behavior in exchange for a guilty plea. If the defense is going to start requesting special consideration, essentially trying to get a better deal from the court, our offer is hereby withdrawn.
Shields: Objection, your honor, she can't do that.
Judge Fitzpatrick: Of course she can, Mr. Shields, just as you can change your plea. Would you like to do so at this time, Mrs. Brady?
Hope: No, your honor. I'm guilty.
Jenkins: Your honor, the state now demands that the defendant receive the full sentence for her crimes. 30 years without possibility of parole.
Jenkins: Your honor, six counts of violent assault robbery, and the attempted murder of the commissioner of police. Are we to look the other way?
Julie: This is your brilliant plan? To wreck her defense? To pull her deal off the table?
Bo: Just let it play out, will you?
Julie: Play out? She could get 30 years.
Jenkins: Are we to give a stiff prison sentence to a criminal off the street who commits a string of violent crimes, but show a police detective leniency? I don't think so. The people demand a full counting, your honor. Nothing less can be considered justice. 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole. I thank the court.
Judge Fitzpatrick: Thank you, ms. Jenkins. Mr. Shields, other than what was in your brief, can you give the court one good reason why Mrs. Brady should be granted leniency?
Shields: Um... well, uh...
Justin: Yes, your honor. I can.
Sami: Hey, Brian. Is my grandma here?
Brian: Hey, Sami. No, she went to the wholesale house. I'll let her know you're looking for her, though.
Sami: No, no, it's okay, you don't have to do that. She's mad at me about something. But I'll just sneak upstairs because I wanted to get this doll that Allie left. Excuse me. Brady black, is that a beer in your hand?
Brady: Is that an engagement ring on yours?
Nicole: Oh, ow! Face door plant.
Rafe: Are you okay?
Nicole: Yeah. Sorry.
Rafe: Oh, it's all right. It's not a problem. So what do you say I come in for a little nightcap?
Nicole: Uh...no. Nope, nope.
Rafe: What do you mean, no?
Rafe: What do you mean, no?
Rafe: Come on.
Nicole: Well, first of all, it's not nighttime.
Nicole: And second... what do you want from me, Rafe?
Justin: I've known and admired hope Brady for over 20 years.
Shields: And yet, you were one of her victims?
Justin: Yes, I was. Which, in my opinion, speaks volumes about her psychological state.
Jenkins: Objection, your honor, he's--
Judge Fitzpatrick: He's giving his opinion, ms. Jenkins, not expert testimony. A certain leeway is allowed. Continue, Mr. Kiriakis.
Justin: Thank you, your honor. I think it's important to remember that hope had an accomplice in these attacks. A Dr. Richard baker, who has refused to testify against her. And yet, hope, in spite of the fact of not remembering anything that she did, has stepped forward and accepted full responsibility for her actions and has shown an amazing amount of remorse.
Shields: So is it your testimony that ms. Brady should go free?
Justin: [Sighs] No. No, I don't think she should. To release her would be a mistake. But, your honor, if you are considering what's best for Salem... Salem needs hope Brady to come back. If you're considering what's best for her family... her family needs her to come back. And if you're considering what her victims want... we want her to receive the best possible treatment. So that she can truly come back to us.
Abe: I worked with hope for many years in the Salem police department. She is truly one of Salem's finest.
Shields: And you are one of ms. Brady's victims, correct?
Abe: Yes, and I will be a victim again if my friend is buried by the system. Hope has already lost so much. She faces a long recovery process. And I'm not alone when I say that she's a victim in this herself. I hope the court will come to understand that. Thank you. Thank you.
Judge Fitzpatrick: Very well, Mr. Mayor, you may step down.
Arianna: Excuse me? Your honor. I'd like the chance to say something. Sometimes getting our kids to eat the way they should
Judge Fitzpatrick: Your name, ma'am?
Arianna: I'm Arianna Hernandez. I was also one of hope Brady's victims. She falsely accused me of the crimes that she is pleading guilty to today. First of all, I just want to say that I understand why hope Brady's friends and family are here asking for leniency. Prison is a horrible place. I know, because I've been there. I went to prison because I used and sold drugs willingly. But I didn't get to use that in my defense. It would have been laughed out of court. I was sentenced, I did time. And believe me, I learned from what I did. Now I'd like to think that if it were me sitting at that defense table today, I would get the same treatment as hope Brady. Justice should be blind. Right? I mean, there are a lot of people in this room that devoted their lives to making this system work. And while I feel for hope Brady, if the system is going to work, then it needs to treat her the same way it treated me. You do the crime, you do the time. Thank you, your honor.
Rafe: What do I want? Gosh, uh...damned if I know. I mean, I wanted Sami, and Sydney, and a family. And then that whole thing got flushed down the toilet, as you know, and... well, we're similar in that way. You wanted Sydney, and EJ, and a family. And it didn't exactly work out. Then it turns out you wanted Brady, so--
Nicole: Okay, yeah, and now all that's gone. What am I doing? What am I gonna do, Rafe?
Rafe: You know what, just do what I'm doing. Just do what I do, just live in the moment. For right now. This is all we've got. Right?
Nicole: Wow. That's-- you're absolutely right.
Nicole: Fine. Now come on in. It's nightcap time.
Rafe: Oh, is it?
Rafe: All right.
Sami: How many of those have you had?
Brady: I've had a few. Why, you want one? What's it to you?
Sami: I don't know, you're the one who always talks about how important sobriety is.
Brady: Sami, it's not cocaine, it's a beer, all right? Come on, I'm celebrating right now.
Sami: [Chuckles] Yeah, celebrating. Celebrating what?
Brady: Celebrating getting that last freaking monkey off my back.
Brady: You--I'm sorry, you-- Nicole. Yeah, I-I-I'm done with her. Outta there.
Sami: I didn't even know you were with her again. That's great news. So what did she do this time?
Brady: Ah, she lied. Lies, lies, lies all over the place. She opens her mouth and, like, lies come out. It's kind of funny. She's gonna be in Statesville again in, like, a month or two, I don't know. Get that smirk off your face, Sami Brady. 'Cause you're no different than she is.
Sami: How dare you!
Sami: Enjoy your beer, okay, by your lonesome, I'm gonna go.
Brady: 'Cause your addiction isn't lies, it's EJ DiMera. 'Cause when you marry him, you're gonna be in a lot worse place than prison.
Judge Fitzpatrick: All right, the court has heard from both sides, and it is now up to me to render a verdict. The guilt of the accused is not--
Shields: Oh, your honor?
Judge Fitzpatrick: Mr. Shields?
Shields: The defense calls commissioner Bo Brady.
Hope: Bo, don't do this.
Bo: This whole process is about her guilt. So I need you to know that I am as responsible for what happened as my wife.
Hope: That's not true.
Judge Fitzpatrick: You're going to need to explain that, commissioner.
Bo: For the number of years that we've been together and for the things that have happened to us, we have had an amazing marriage. But our daughter was kidnapped a few months ago. And after we got her back, we had some demons to deal with. And hope decided that she needed to take our daughter and move out of our house. And that was how she was going to put the pieces together. Except I didn't know that this was a temporary arrangement. I felt that she had moved on with her life. And my mistake was I moved on with my life. And that hurt her deeply. And... [Sighs] My wife's world fell apart. So to answer ms. Hernandez's statement about doing the crime... my wife went to a medical professional because she was having trouble sleeping, and that was affecting her being a good mother and a good law enforcement officer. She was prescribed a pill-- a pill that should-- a pill that turned her world upside-down without her even knowing it. She did not buy and sell illegal drugs. She was a victim in this. As much as anyone else, like the mayor said. And that should be reflected in her sentence.
Judge Fitzpatrick: Is that all, commissioner?
Bo: Thank you for your patience, one more point. I would like you to know and my wife to know that no matter what happens today, I will be there for you. For whatever you need, I'll be there for you. [Sniffs]
Sami: Wow. You have a couple of drinks and all of a sudden you think you know everything. You are worse than my grandma and my dad put together.
Brady: I like them. That's good company to be in.
Sami: For the record, I know what I'm doing.
Brady: You don't know what the hell you're doing, Sami. You're marrying into a family of liars and killers. That's gonna be fun, huh? You're gonna have a great time. Happy as a clam in that.
Sami: Wow, Nicole really did a number on you, didn't she?
Brady: You know what? When I left town a couple years ago, you were a spoiled rotten brat.
Sami: Pot, kettle!
Brady: And then when I came back, you were new and improved, you were better. 'Cause you had just met, you know, Rafe. And then you just couldn't handle it, could you?
Sami: I am not gonna stand here and listen to the drunken ramblings of--
Brady: You totally blew it. You just screwed it up. You went right back to being the same old Sami, just screwing up. And I'm proud of being screwed up.
Sami: Hey, Brady, shut up.
Brady: I'm Sami. I'm proud of it.
Sami: Shut up!
Brady: You know what? Let me tell you something. You need to think about what you're doing. Are you marrying EJ because you love him? Maybe it's because you're just afraid to be alone, I don't know. Just think about it. And have a beer on me, okay? You're gonna need it, sweetie.
Rafe: You know what's weird?
Nicole: That I'm still standing?
Rafe: No. Well, yes, actually. But, uh, no. Just--cheers. We were just talking about Sydney, and I was thinking about her--
Rafe: And no, well, not to be a downer but we both care about her so much. She means the world to us. Right?
Nicole: Yeah. You know what I wish? Uh, who cares what I wish? I can't be a part of that little girl's life anymore, so I've let her go.
Nicole: Are you supposed to do that?
Rafe: Who cares? F.B.I. guys need a break too, right? Hmm? [Mutters] What?
Nicole: It's just weird, you know? Here you are in my dumpy little apartment drinking. I don't know, there must be an angle that I'm missing here, right? Because of the booze?
Rafe: No. There's no angle. I mean, it is kinda dumpy, yes.
Rafe: But no, I--can I be honest with you? I just wanted to be with a woman tonight who was easygoing, and just carefree, and uncomplicated.
Nicole: I'm not complicated? Really?
Rafe: No, but you're Nicole. And yes, and you know what you want, when you want it, and how to get it. And it's--it's not like you're going around saying, "hey, I want the best for everybody." And then double deal and lie into my face.
Nicole: Like Sami? Well, news flash for you, Rafe. I've told a lie or two before.
Rafe: I know. But you don't pretend that you don't. I like that. Hey, I do, okay? Listen, is that so bad? I'm sure you and I have bumped heads more than once, but... I always felt like there was a little spark there.
Nicole: Wait a minute, no, no, no. Now I'm totally confused. You like me?
Rafe: Why not?
Nicole: You're interested in me, really?
Nicole: Because I what? I'm not complicated, and... you have those eyes. And I have this body.
[Giggles] I really don't know what I'm talking about.
Rafe: Something like that. What, is that so hard to believe?
Nicole: Yes. It is. So you are gonna have to prove it.
Rafe: Rawr, okay. How?
Nicole: Take off your clothes.
Judge Fitzpatrick: And frankly, Mr. Shields, the rather endless parade of character witnesses began to wear thin. The testimony of ms. Hernandez struck me as a very clear example of how this case needed to be viewed... equal justice under the law. But as the testimony kept coming, I realized this guilty plea required a different perspective. Clearly, Mrs. Brady, you are not a hardened criminal. Therefore, I am sentencing you to the Salem county correctional facility for a period of two years. There you will receive psychiatric treatment and be allowed visitations with your daughter as your therapist sees fit. Thank you, counselors. This case is concluded.
Bailiff: All rise.
Julie: Oh, darling! Frankly, I thought by this time we'd all be crying our eyes out.
Hope: Thank you so much for everything.
Doug: This is a new beginning. This is a fresh start, and it's gonna get better from this day on.
Hope: Thank you. Thank you so much for everything.
Bo: Hope, I'm sorry.
Hope: You're sorry? I could have gotten 30 years, but I got two because of you.
Julie: What do you have to be sorry for, Bo? You did save the day.
Bo: I'm sorry I wasn't there. ~~
Hope: Abe. I can't thank you enough. Both of you. Thank you.
Abe: You work on getting well, okay?
Hope: I will. Thank you. My God, thank you.
Justin: Hope, please just take care of yourself, okay? Promise me?
Hope: I will.
Justin: Just get well.
Doug: You'll be home soon.
Julie: And we'll be waiting for you.
Doug: And we'll bring Ciara every chance we get.
Julie: And you be strong, and just think that every minute that goes by, you're that much closer to coming home. Think of it that way, will you, darling?
Hope: I will. Love you. [Sighs] I guess this is-- this is good-bye.
Bo: No, not good-bye. I'll see you soon, fancy face.
Sami: Rafe, it's Sami. This is, like, the third message I'm leaving on your voice mail. Look, I know you don't wanna talk to me, you probably don't even wanna hear my voice right now, but I really want you to call me back. It's important. And I think you won't regret it.
Sami: Ooh, Arianna, hey! Hey, do you have a second? Can I talk to you, please?
Arianna: Sure. Yeah.
Sami: Look, you don't know where your brother is, do you?
Arianna: Yeah, I do, actually. I saw him earlier. And I bet you he's at Nicole's place right about now. Yeah.
Sami: Nicole's place? Oh, my God, I bet he got the evidence! I bet he's arresting her right now. Oh, my God, I have to see this.
Nicole: Uh-oh. I'm sensing a little hesitation. Maybe...you don't want me as bad as you think you do.
Rafe: Think again.
Nicole: Here we go. [Clears throat] Mm-hmm.
Vivian: I have a plan to get that phony out of Victor's life once and for all.
EJ: Samantha and I are getting married.
