Hope: [Sniffling]

[Door opens]

Julie: Oh, honey--

Officer: Oh, sorry, ma'am. No contact.

Julie: Come on, I'm hardly a security threat here--

Hope: It's okay, it's okay. He's just doing his job

Officer: Please have a seat.

Hope: There are rules.

Julie: May I speak to her alone?

Officer: Sorry, ma'am.

Hope: It's okay. Doesn't matter. There's really nothing to talk about.

Rafe: So you're sad that you're no longer under suspicion for attempted murder?

Arianna: Why do you say things like that?

Rafe: Because you're acting sad that you're no longer under suspicion for attempted murder. Hey. Hey, where are you going?

Arianna: I'm going home!

Gabi: Forgot to tell you-- she no longer has a sense of humor.

Rafe: What's wrong?

Arianna: Nothing is wrong!

Gabi: Kind of a lie. She got the good news last night, and all she did was lock herself in her room.

Arianna: Okay, can you not talk about me like I'm not here?

Rafe: Well, you're acting like you're not here. What is it? What's wrong?

Will: Hey.

Kate: Hey.

Will: Have you seen my phone?

Kate: Thought it was glued to your ear. Ha. There ya go. Shirt and tie. Must be an important girl.

Will: Actually, I'm meeting Stefano at the pub to discuss the position he offered me.

[Cell phone rings]

Will: Thank you.

Kate: Ha. You're not nervous, are you? I mean, I pretty much think you have a lock on the job.

Will: Maybe that's why I am a little nervous, you know, that he feels like he has to do this. Oh, boy.

Kate: Will, Stefano never

has to do anything. He genuinely likes you.

Will: You know what, I never thought I'd say this and, uh, mom would...hate it if she knew, but...I kinda like him too.

Yes. And I want all that put in place as soon as possible. And listen to me. I wanna make sure that that young man is treated as if his last name was DiMera.

Chad: Ahem. Mr. DiMera.

Stefano: Ah...

Chad: I'd like to talk to you...about my mom.

EJ: Oh, hey. I think Allie might end up being some kind of...high-concept architect, judging by her sand castles.

Sami: [Chuckles] Whereas Johnny will definitely be in the demolition business.

EJ: Ah...yeah. Demolishing her high-concept sand castles, by the look of things.

[Children's voices in background]

EJ: Hey, look...you see that? Look at Mary. She's carrying Sydney. Two seconds ago, Sydney was crying. Mary turns around so Sydney can see Johnny and Allie... she's fine, look at her. She's happy as a clam.

Sami: It is awesome to be out here with the family.

EJ: Yeah. Oh, yeah. Doesn't get much better than this.

Sami: Ahh...

EJ: Hey. What's wrong with you? You look like this black cloud just passed over your face.

Sami: Not at all, not at all. I was just...appreciating how wonderful it is to be with the family.

EJ: Like you said... doesn't get much better than this.

Sami: EJ, I know what you're up to, and I'm not gonna let you get away with it.

Stefano: Son, I am very sorry about your mother--

Chad: Say, have you known her for a long time?

Stefano: Look, I'm sorry, but I am very, very busy. I have some phone calls to make. I also have someone to meet.

Chad: She was like two completely different people... and I only knew one of them.

Stefano: Perhaps that's the way it should be.

Chad: Did you know her when she was A...you know.

Stefano: Son, what is the point of digging up all this...

[Exhales] I'm sorry but, uh...I have to cut this short. I have appointments, phone calls--I have a lot of people to meet. Trust me...I feel very sorry about your mother. But, Chad... I can't help you. Sorry.

EJ: Look, Samantha, I don't want you to think there was any pressure.

Sami: But there is.

EJ: Well, I know... I mean, I know that there is pressure. I just don't want you to think that there's any pressure. You see the difference? Small but important.

Sami: What should I think?

EJ: I mean, you know what I think you should think.

Sami: EJ, I don't want you to pressure me into making a decision that I'm not ready to make yet.

EJ: Okay. Okay. I get it. I meant it when I said I would tread lightly--I did. Look, Samantha... I can't pretend that being at the beach with the woman that I love more than anything else in the world, the mother of my children... doesn't make me one of the happiest men on the face of the planet.

Sami: So that was your plan, to bring me out here to the beach, seduce me into family life with you?

EJ: Actually, it wasn't so much of a plan, exactly... but, uh, it certainly had occurred to me that if I brought you to the beach and we had a wonderful time... it probably wouldn't be a bad thing.

Sami: I don't want you to push me.

EJ: I hear what you're saying--I do, I really do. But your smile seems to be suggesting something different. It's like your smile says "push me," and your head says, "don't push me."

Really?

EJ: And I'm trying to navigate through the soup.

Sami: So what you're saying is you're just helpless in the face of my beauty--is that it?

EJ: Completely. That and the wonderfully twisted way you look at the world.

Rafe: Sami.

Sami: Wha--Rafe?

Rafe: Now, listen... we love each other. We both know that we do. We belong together. It's the only thing that makes sense.

EJ: Samantha. You okay? What is it you're thinking about?

Arianna: What is wrong?

Rafe: Yeah.

Arianna: [Exhales] I was framed for a string of crimes a cop committed.

Rafe: Uh-huh.

Arianna: A cop that was in charge of the case. So am I just supposed to be grateful that she flipped out enough that now the Salem pd knows that it wasn't me?

Gabi: Glad you asked?

Arianna: That psycho said that I was guilty to cover her own butt.

Rafe: Yeah... the thing is--from what I understand... she wasn't trying to pin it on you. She just didn't know what she was doing.

Arianna: And you buy that?

Rafe: You think she's faking it?

Arianna: I don't know. But I intend to find out.

Hope: [Sobs] Will you do something for me?

Julie: Anything. Anything you ask.

Hope: Ciara. [Sniffles] You and daddy have to watch over her for me. Please take care of her for me.

Julie: Of course. Of course we will.

Hope: Bo as well. My God, what have I done to his life?

Julie: What did he do to yours?

Hope: Nothing... that warranted what I did to him.

Julie: Hope, darling... darling... don't do this to yourself.

Hope: [Sobs] Julie, it's time for you to go. Stay with Ciara, please. She's leaving.

Julie: I'm coming back.

Hope: Don't, please. Don't come back. Just stay with Ciara. Stay with my baby, okay?

EJ: You gonna tell me what you were thinking?

Sami: My grandmother said something to me...

EJ: That's romantic. I mean, I lean back here, and I think about you, and... you think about your grandmother.

Sami: Well, what she said... what she said really bothered me.

EJ: I can tell.

Sami: [Sighs] The church believes in original sin.

EJ: Really? [Laughs] Samantha, you are all over the place today.

Sami: And what I did allowed baker and Nicole to do what they did. I mean, sure, I hate them and I'm angry at them, and I want to blame them for all the pain that they caused--

EJ: Wait a second--but Nicole and and baker were the cause of that pain.

Sami: No--it's me!

EJ: They were the cause, not you!

Sami: No, I have the original sin--I am the one who didn't tell you that I was pregnant. If I hadn't done that, the rest wouldn't have been possible.

EJ: Okay, but I've told you over and over--

Sami: And it was stupid. I mean, I...

EJ: Samantha--

Sami: Look at how you are with your kids, and I realize that it was a mistake in the first place.

EJ: Thank you...but I have told you over and over again, I fully understand why you decided not to tell me.

Sami: And you forgave me.

EJ: I did, yes.

Sami: And I don't know how. And I don't think I will ever be able to forgive myself.

EJ: Samantha, you will. You will be able to forgive yourself--I promise you. Look, have you ever heard that, uh... the weak cannot forgive, you know, forgiveness is an attribute of the strong? Have you heard that?

Sami: No. I like it.

EJ: Well, I'd like to take the credit for it, but, um... little fellow called Gandhi beat me to it. My point, Samantha, is that... I know hat you will forgive yourself. Because you are the strongest person that I've ever met.

Sami: Yes.

EJ: Sorry?

Sami: Yes. Yes, I'll marry you.

Gabi: Something wrong?

Rafe: Ahem. Nothing. It's nothing. - Excuse me,

which sock is whiter? - Oh, that one.

Will: Hey, Chad. Have you seen Stefano around here?

Chad: Uh, yeah, he just, uh, took off.

Will: Really? 'Cause... supposed to meet him here.

Chad: Ooh. Yeah, that's my bad. I think. I started talking about my mom and everything, and he got all super-awkward and he left.

Will: That doesn't sound like him.

Chad: Yeah, well, guess I understand. It's not like I was asking him if he knew my mom when she ran a flower shop or taught school.

Will: Chad...

Chad: But I'm telling you, okay... he knew exactly what I was asking about.

Will: You really just can't let this go? How is he supposed to talk to you about something like that?

Chad: I-I don't know. I figured maybe he'd just... tell me the truth.

Will: You know the truth. It's like you're out to make this hurt you as much as it possibly can.

Chad: Whoa! Whoa, whoa! Thank you for the insight, Dr. Phil, but it hurts enough as it is.

Will: I know, I know. If I said the wrong thing, I am sorry. But I mean, I...you're beating yourself up here.

Chad: Hmm. Yeah, well...maybe you're right.

Will: You know, it's gonna get better. When you get out of here, you know, when you go off to wake forest.

Chad: Yeah. I been thinking about that a lot lately. Fresh new start and--and all that.

Will: Yeah, right.

Chad: Well, but there's just one... teeny, tiny problem.

Stefano: Ah.

Kate: What are you doing here? You were supposed to meet will at the pub.

Stefano: Madeline's son was there.

Kate: You ran away from a teenaged boy. Sorry. You made a discreet exit?

Stefano: He simply would not stop with the questions.

Kate: Okay. Look, my only concern here is if you keep on dodging him, it's just going to confirm that there's something else that he needs to find out.

Stefano: [Sighs] Are you sure that Madeline didn't leave another copy of that damn tape?

Kate: Oh, my God...no. Of course not. You can't be sure that something doesn't exist.

Stefano: You know, that boy has access to her things, and he is obsessed with her past. He could go through them, you know.

Kate: My love... don't borrow trouble.

Stefano: Oh, no? You don't think I have reason to worry? What? What does that look mean?

Kate: I think what we need to do now is just pray that all of Madeline's secrets were buried with her.

EJ: You just said yes. You just said yes. You just--you just said yes! You said yes, you're gonna marry me--you just said yes!

Sami: Yes. [Squeals]

EJ: Ha ha ha ha ha! Johnny, Allie, come here!

Sami: No, no, no, no, no! We're not telling the kids-- we can't! No! No, we can't.

EJ: Why? Please!

Sami: We have to wait. Because we have to tell them all together, and you don't know how will's gonna react.

EJ: They're gonna be so excited. Okay.

Sami: Thank you.

EJ: Okay. I have one question, a tiny question.

Sami: Yeah?

EJ: Can I kiss the bride?

Sami: Please.

Hope: Arianna...

Arianna: You owe me, detective. You owe me, big-time.

Hope: Yes. I do.

Rafe: He didn't show? No. Let's wait for him to call back. Well, usually when an informant gets jumpy, it's just good to give him a little time to settle down. Right. Okay.

Sami: Hey. What are you doing here?

Rafe: Work. As always.

Sami: Right. What, did Johnny call it into the bureau?

Rafe: What?

Sami: Johnny left one of his toys out by the water, and he's devastated. It's like losing his best friend.

Rafe: Did you find it?

Sami: No. No, it's gone now.

Rafe: Oh. Sami, I--

Sami: Listen, I--

Rafe: No, can I just--

Sami: I wanted to--

Rafe: I wanted--

Sami: No. Sorry.

Rafe: I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry. I acted like a jerk at the pub.

Sami: I was gonna say I'm sorry, 'cause, um... I overreacted about your phone call. I made a big deal out of nothing--I'm sorry.

Rafe: I really don't wanna fight with you. I don't.

Sami: And here we are... not fighting, right?

Rafe: [Laughs] Yeah. Yep. So what's new? Anything?

Sami: Ha. Ha.

Rafe: Well, I guess something is. What is it?

Just one bite opens a world of delight...

Will: So let me get this straight. You need business experience to get into a business class. What, do you need to do surgery before you can get into med school?

Chad: Ha ha ha. It's an advanced class, and it would, well...at least, I think it would show my dad how serious I am about school and everything.

Will: That's weird. Because the DiMeras are sucking up to my mom, I have what you need. That doesn't seem fair.

Chad: I have no idea what you're talking about.

Will: Stefano has given me an internship and also offered me a part-time job for the fall. I'll work after, uh... school, so--actually... take a look at this.

Chad: It's a project for the DiMera enterprises?

Will: Apparently, they need a 17-year-old with a c-minus in math to make sure it flies.

Chad: Well, this is--this is...this is really cool.

Will: If you worked on this with me, I mean, would that give you what you need to get into the class?

Chad: Absolutely.

Will: Okay. Then, uh, then consider it done. Stefano left me a voice mail, so I'm actually supposed to meet him back at the mansion. So come on, I'll introduce you to...

Woods: Chad. You're not going anywhere.

Chad: Hmm.

Arianna: You planted the DNA evidence. You arrested me... when all along, it was you. You were the one who attacked all of those men. You branded Brady.

Hope: Yes...I did.

Will: So let me get this straight. You need business experience to get into a business class. What, do you need to do surgery before you can get into med school?

Arianna: You planted the DNA evidence. You arrested me... when all along, it was you. You were the one who attacked all of those men.

You branded Brady.

Hope: Yes...I did.

Arianna: Why? Why did you set me up? What have I ever done to you?

Hope: Nothing.

Arianna: Then why do you hate me so much?

Woods: We have talked about this.

Chad: No, no, no, no, we don't talk--you give orders. There's a big difference.

Woods: If you would use your head once in a while...

Chad: So what are you gonna do when I get to wake forest? You gonna text me my orders?

Woods: I don't have time for this--I have to tell you something. I'm going to Chicago. I'm serving on a Midwest task force for tort reform.

Chad: Sounds fascinating. Sorry I can't join you.

Woods: Would you listen to me? This could take...a certain amount of time.

Chad: Okay. Uh...how long?

Woods: Well, there's a possibility I won't be back before you leave for north Carolina.

Chad: W-wait a minute. W-we're supposed to drive down there together and--and stop and see aunt Brenda in D.C. And--

Woods: Chad... don't you get it by now? Things change. Plans fall through.

Chad: Maybe... maybe I-I shouldn't even go to wake forest.

Sami: I saw baker... yesterday.

Rafe: Oh. Baker. Ha. That must have brought back a flood of memories.

Sami: And none of them good. And, um... you know, it's just hard reliving all that...crap.

Rafe: Yeah, I know. But you have your family. And Sydney's safe.

Sami: It's not enough. It's not enough that she's safe now. She was hurt because of me. It's my fault.

Will: Hey.

Stefano: Ah. I'm sorry about the change of venue. Well, you look very nice.

Will: Thank you.

Stefano: Yeah, I suddenly realized that I had some data in here...that I wanted you to see.

Will: Right.

Stefano: Okay. I think that this could help you put together your first proposal.

Will: Actually, I wanted to talk to you about that. Um...I'm feeling a little like I'M...in over my head.

Stefano: Nonsense. I will walk you through the entire thing, step-by-step.

Will: Well, I know how busy you are and, um... it actually turns out that my friend Chad is really good at this business stuff, so I was thinking maybe we can, you know, work together.

Stefano: No, no, no, no. [Chuckles] Absolutely not.

Will: Well, it--

Stefano: No, no, listen. Listen to me, please, William. Ahem. This young man can have absolutely nothing to do with this.

Woods: What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Chad: That with mom gone... you know, we should--we should be together. We should spend time together. And if I stayed here, then we could--

Woods: Oh, damn it. I'm late for court. Chad... stay. Go. Whatever you think it best.

Will: What is so terrible about Chad helping me out?

Stefano: William... this is something that you must do on your own.

Will: For my personal growth?

Stefano: Now, see here, I-I-- [Chuckles] Sorry.

Will: No, no, uh, I'm sorry. I-I shouldn't talk to you like I...talk to my mom. It's just...

Stefano: What?

Will: I don't think this is about me. I think this is about Chad and his mom.

Hope: I don't hate you.

Arianna: So planting evidence against me was just some... random act of nastiness? I don't think so!

Hope: I don't remember.

Arianna: Then let me help you out with that, okay? This is how I see it. You popped some pills, and then you set out to work out your frustrations over your very rotten life.

Hope: Arianna...I am so sorry.

Arianna: But you didn't pop the pills for a good night's sleep. What you did is put your affirmative defense in place before you made your first move.

Hope: No--

Arianna: Oh, yeah, I'm not guilty--I'm altered. I don't need prison, I need help. See, honey, I've been around. I know all the excuses.

Hope: I didn't do that.

Arianna: Do you think your word is enough? I did time...all right? I paid for what I did. I will not let you and your powerful last name just walk away. I want you to pay for what you did.

Hope: So do I. So do I.

Rafe: This guilt of yours-- don't you see how it works out really great for EJ?

Sami: EJ? We can't have one conversation without you bringing up EJ?

Rafe: Well, yeah, all that's happened is all of a sudden your fault--I mean, really? After everything that he's done to you?

Sami: Well, according to you, he's responsible for global warming.

EJ: No, I think that he's--

Sami: What?

Rafe: Nothing. Forget it. You know what? He's great. The man is a frickin' saint, okay? And he forgives you. So you're living in his house. He gets to run your life. Obviously, you're not happy with that, but it doesn't matter, because he forgives you, and that's great. And you're--you're in the house. Pretty soon, you're gonna be s--

Sami: You know what? None of this is your business.

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Sami: None of it is your business, because that's how you wanted it! I-I can't even have a regular conversation with you. I can't open up to you about anything! I don't know why I thought I could. I don't even know you anymore!

Stefano: William... you are doing a project for DiMera enterprises, hmm? Okay. Said project, to be successful, is your concern. My motives are beside the point.

Will: Well, I think that, um, the project would be even more successful if Chad and I worked together.

Stefano: Oh. Well...[Laughs] You don't seem to see it... that I would have reservations about bringing the son of the district attorney into the inner workings of my organization.

Will: So this is about his father.

Stefano: Ah. Exactly.

Will: Then why did you get up and leave the pub this morning when Chad asked you about his mom? What is it that you don't want him to know?

Arianna: Wow. You've really thought this through. It's a beautiful performance. Passive. Empty inside. I'm not gonna let you play the victim. Not with me. See, I know there isn't a pill in this world that makes anyone that evil, that sick, that venal, unless it was always... there before. And one more thing. In prison... they're gonna see right through you... the inmates... the screws. They will not be taken in by those big eyes and that soft voice. They will all see right through you.

Rafe: You don't know me anymore? Why'd you go into witness protection?

Sami: I was scared.

Rafe: Yeah, you were scared. You were scared that EJ was gonna find out he was the father of the child you were carrying, and you know as well as I do that he would do anything-- anything to own that kid.

Sami: Well, he's her father.

Rafe: Exactly. And you didn't want the DiMeras to have anything to do with the child.

Sami: Well, I was wrong about EJ.

Rafe: You were not wrong. You were not wrong, Sami. Money's not gonna buy you happiness. Not for you or your family. What the hell happened to that woman? Where did she go, the woman who would do anything for her family, for her kids?

Sami: That's what--

Rafe: That's what what? You know, sooner or later, you're gonna have to face the truth. You're gonna have to stop lying to yourself and face the truth about who EJ really is.

Sami: To your truth. To what you think is true.

Rafe: You're so wrong about him. So wrong. Cc

Hope: They shouldn't be doing this--they're cutting me too much slack.

Doug: Hope, will you stop worrying about getting special treatment and listen to me? We have a lot to go over and not much time.

Hope: Arthur Davis has three children--if he gets suspended--

Doug: Honey, honey...we need to look over this list of lawyers.

Hope: Daddy, how many times do I have to say it? I do not want a lawyer. I'm pleading guilty.

Doug: You don't have to do that--

Hope: Yes, I do!

Doug: No, you don't.

Hope: Dad!

Doug: No, no, it was because of the pills.

Hope: I'm not using that. I am not hiding behind that excuse. It used to nauseate me when I heard it from the perps when I was sitting on the other side of that table.

Doug: I think Julie's right. You're still under the influence of those things.

Hope: No.

Doug: Yes, you--too much has happened. You need help. Princess, for God's sake, look at me!

Hope: I can't, I can't, dad.

Doug: Hope!

Hope: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Look what I'm putting you through. You must be so ashamed of me. I'm sorry.

Kate: So...how do you feel about unsolicited advice? Your father is grieving too. And sometimes... sometimes grief brings out the worst in people.

Chad: Hmm. You see, I'd consider that... if what just happened was anything new.

Kate: It's not?

Chad: See, when I was little... and dad, he...he wouldn't play catch with me... I thought it was because he wanted me to be good at school, like him. So I came home one day with straight as... once. I was so excited about it and... first thing he asked me is when I'm gonna get a job. And then I made the track team. And the only thing he could talk to me about was...boarding school. I think it's just time to-- as he loves to say-- face facts. The guy just doesn't want me around.

Sami: Well, you want to know what I think is true?

Rafe: What?

Sami: Something I told my grandma. I think you still love me.

Rafe: I do.

Sami: You said it wasn't enough...but I think it's that you don't love the real me. You know, you have this like idealized version in your head of who I should be. And--and...I can't live with that.

Rafe: That is such a copout. That is such a copout, you standing there telling me that, and you're pretending that EJ is someone who he isn't? And you know it and I know it. The only thing I don't know is why you continue to hold onto the lie.

Sami: I thought we weren't gonna fight!

Arianna: Did my feeling ice...

Kate: Can I help?

Chad: Look, I...I know you're trying to be nice... but you don't owe me anything. It's not like we're family.

Kate: You're wrong about that.

Gabi: I thought you were going to end up back in jail for assaulting hope Brady.

Arianna: She sure has it coming.

Gabi: Rafe and I were worried about you when you left his office. Still are.

Arianna: Well, thank you, but you don't need to worry about me. I'm just...mad, that's all.

Gabi: You're more than mad. And you have really good reasons to be whatever it is you are.

Arianna: Did my feelings pass the Gabi test?

Gabi: Okay, but being torn up like that isn't good for you. I know from personal experience.

Arianna: Did someone dis you in homeroom?

Gabi: Actually, my stupid sister acted unbelievably stupid and got sent to prison. And since the rest of my family was gone, I was left to hold mom's hand. Only she was only really holding mine. You know what she told me? She told me that I had to understand that you were in pain, that I needed to forgive you... for my sake as much as for yours.

Arianna: You're saying that I should forgive hope.

Gabi: So you can, as they say, move on.

Arianna: Hmm. What's the point of moving on? I lost everything. She destroyed my life, and I don't know how to get it back.

Hope: [Sobbing]

Doug: Please!

Hope: Oh, God!

Doug: Baby, I'm not ashamed of you. I'm ashamed of myself!

Hope: [Sobbing] No, daddy.

Doug: Yes, yes, I didn't... I-I didn't see what you were going through. I was no help at all!

Hope: Don't be nice to me. I don't deserve it.

Doug: Oh, hope, damn it, put a cork in it! You really believe that I'M... walking away? That you're not still my little girl? That Julie and Bo and I and about a hundred other people are not gonna fight like hell to make sure that Ciara gets her beautiful, wonderful mother back again? That the last two months wipes out everything that you ever were before that?

Hope: I'm scared, daddy.

Doug: I know, baby.

Hope: I'm so scared.

Doug: I know, I know.

Hope: I'm sorry.

Doug: I know.

Hope: Daddy, I'm sorry.

Sami: Hey.

Will: Hey.

Sami: What's up?

Will: Uh, nothing, just, uh, I was just working.

Sami: Do you have a second?

Will: Yeah, sure.

Sami: Okay. Um, I, uh, I need to talk to you.

Will: Behind closed doors?

Sami: Ha. Right. 'Cause it's...private. Really...private.

Will: Okay. Well, now I'm scared.

Sami: Will, um... I wanted to tell you myself because, um... EJ asked me to marry him... and I said yes.

Stefano: Elvis, where are you?

Stefano: As a matter of fact, I think I just heard her walk in. Um...what's wrong?

EJ: Uh, nothing's wrong. No, look, there's something I need to tell you, father. I asked Samantha to marry me. She said yes.

Bo: Don't you threaten my wife.

Vivian: Now I'm going to have to teach you a lesson.

Rafe: Well, I hear congratulations are in order.
