Vivian: I mean, really, does it have to be this ugly and depressing just because it's a hospital?
Chloe: Yada, yada, yada.
Vivian: You'd think that they--some texture, grass cloth, or some-- am I talking to myself?
Chloe: Pretty much.
Vivian: Well, I'm gonna talk to the board. I am Victor Kiriakis' wife, and any implements and changes--
Daniel: You know, we need to talk.
Vivian: Excuse me, but you're hurting me.
Daniel: What's on your agenda now, Vivian? Why are you bothering Chloe?
Vivian: You mean Chloe didn't tell you? Oh, or maybe Carly?
Daniel: Tell me what?
Vivian: Oh, poor Daniel. What are your girlfriends keeping from you?
Chloe: So you'll only stay silent if this baby is Daniel's, if we can determine for sure that he's the father?
Carly: Chloe, it's the best I can offer.
Chloe: The best you can offer? What, like the price on a used car? I mean, come on, Carly, this baby is Daniel's. I know it is! It has to be. What? Why aren't you saying anything?
Carly: 'Cause I can tell by the look on your face and the desperation in your voice that you are terrified that this child is not Daniel's, that it's the other man's. Oh, Chloe, please be honest with me. Is it possible that you already know that for sure?
Melanie: Hey, Philip. Where'd you go just now?
Melanie: Chloe's pregnant. Philip, Chloe and my dad are having a baby. This is--this is awesome. I'm gonna be a big sister. I'm gonna have a little sister or maybe a little brother, I don't know. This is so cool, but you seem bummed about it. What's wrong?
Sami: I can't believe Johnny left his penguin here. Where is it?
Nicole: So do you have something to say or didn't you hear me? Because I certainly overheard you talking to your father about how you kidnapped Sydney. I knew you were an evil son of a bitch, EJ, but this...
Chloe: Of course I'm not sure. How can I be sure? Even when things were at their worst with Daniel, we never stopped loving each other. But considering how far along I am, I honestly don't know whose baby this is.
Carly: That's why we're gonna do a paternity test.
Chloe: So all this talk of helping me, it was just talk, wasn't it? You're planning on exposing me no matter what, aren't you?
Philip: No, nothing's-- nothing's wrong. I'm just, um--I'm stunned. That's all.
Melanie: Okay, but, I mean, you should be stunned in a good way. You know, Chloe being pregnant, that's a good thing. Why do you look so worried? Listen to your clothes!
Philip: Yeah, yeah, maybe I am a little worried.
Philip: Because, from what I understand, Chloe--Chloe was under the impression that she was infertile because of all the chemo she had. You know, they said her chances of conceiving a baby were miniscule, so I don't know if any of this can be true.
Melanie: Well, my dad's a doctor. I mean, why would he--
Philip: No, no, it's just more of those hysterical symptoms that she's having.
Melanie: No. No, no, no, Carly did the sonogram. There's a baby in there. This is real.
Philip: Carly did the sonogram?
Melanie: Yeah. Yeah, that's why they didn't have the wedding that night. That's the news that Carly had. That's why Daniel and Chloe didn't get married. I don't think Chloe wants anybody to know yet though. But my dad couldn't help himself, but I swore to secrecy. That's the only reason I couldn't tell you. I hope you're not mad at me. I just--I promised him that I wouldn't say anything.
Philip: No, no, no, that's fine. Don't--don't worry about that.
Melanie: Oh, 'cause I thought you were upset with me. Philip!
Philip: Melanie, did your dad say how far along Chloe is?
Melanie: No. Why would that matter?
Carly: If the baby is his, I'll let it go. And then I'll just have to pray, as will you, that Daniel doesn't find out the truth of your infidelity in some other way.
Chloe: No, no, no. How could he?
Carly: I don't know.
Chloe: If you don't tell him, God knows I certainly won't.
Carly: I'm just saying that if he finds out the truth in any other way, Chloe, not only will you lose him, but I will too, and Melanie for good.
Daniel: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You are not gonna do this.
Vivian: Ha! Do what? I can't even make a simple inquiry.
Daniel: No, you can't. You are gonna shut up and listen.
Vivian: How incredibly rude.
Daniel: Am I--am I not getting through to you? You are gonna stay away from Chloe, do you understand? Now get lost.
Vivian: Oh, this is just unbelievable. It's unbelievable how rude you are.
Daniel: Did you not hear me? I think I said get lost.
Vivian: And you know what's even more irritating? Is the abuse that you're heaping on me when it's all conjecture on your part.
Daniel: Yeah, like hell it is.
Vivian: Oh, so you know what Chloe and I were talking about?
Daniel: I'm gonna say this one last time. Stay away from Carly. Stay away from Chloe. Stay away from Melanie. Because if you don't, there will be hell to pay.
Vivian: I don't think so.
Rafe: Just going for a swim. You know--
Sami: Right, it's summer. I mean, no need for an excuse to swim.
Rafe: Yeah, right. So what are you--
Sami: Oh, um, we were here last night for a family picnic and Johnny left his penguin here. You know, the one you got him. He's still really attached to it, so, um, gotta find it.
Rafe: Right. Family gathering, huh?
Rafe: With EJ?
Sami: Sounds like you already knew about it.
Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, Gabi told me. Hey. Is this what you're looking for?
EJ: Do you think anybody will believe this ridiculous fable? Especially coming from you. I mean, you're hardly a bastion of truth and sanity, are you?
Nicole: It is not a fable. It is the God's to honest truth.
EJ: You're way out of your depth. Way out. And I was out of my mind back then because you had cruelly stolen my child.
Nicole: You were out of your mind. You were playing it that way too.
EJ: Well, I don't have time for this nonsense, so if you'll excuse me.
Nicole: You were good. I'll say that. You were--you played it flawlessly. Oscar-worthy, if I do say so myself. And then you had me attacked while Anna spirited Sydney into some hiding place just when I was about to bring Sydney back. And then you blamed me for Sydney's disappearance.
EJ: God, you really have snapped, haven't you? I mean, after everything you've done to me, to come up with this outrageous, flimsy story.
Nicole: No, what I did, I did out of grief and loss and deep, crushing pain. What you did was a cold-hearted act designed to punish me and Sami, to put us through hell actually. And all at the expense of that little girl who was taken out of her home and away from her mother, away from everything that she knew. No, EJ, what you did was a far, far worse crime than mine could ever be. And like me, now you will pay.
Daniel: Hey, Chloe, it's Daniel. I need to see you as soon as possible. I just found out about Vivian, and I know that she came to see you. Look, baby, baby, I thought we made a promise not to keep things from each other. If I know I can help you. All right, anyway, I love you. Call me or come and see me. I'm at the hospital. Okay.
Chloe: Hmm, it was Daniel. Just call him when you leave.
Carly: Okay, I'll go. Chloe.
Chloe: What? Please don't tell me that you changed your mind again.
Carly: No, I was just gonna say that I hope that the other man won't be a complication, that he won't come forward.
Chloe: No, no, no, no, of course not. It was just a one-time thing, really meaningless. Someone that I'm never gonna see again.
Melanie: Because it's a weird question to ask, how far along somebody is.
Philip: Pfft, what--what-- what, you don't wanna know when the baby's actually gonna be born?
Melanie: Well, um, yeah, I would like to know when the baby's gonna be born, but it's not the first thing I thought about. I was more like, "hey, cool, they're gonna have a baby."
Philip: I mean, look, when I asked how far along Chloe is, I was just wondering when she and Daniel would feel comfortable telling people, that's--that's all.
Philip: You know, but it seems everything I say, I just, I can't seem to get right with you.
Melanie: No, Philip, don't do that. Look, I over-reacted, okay?
Philip: Well, yeah, I mean, especially given Chloe's history.
Melanie: Yes, given--given her history, you have every right to be concerned if maybe it's too early to say anything, especially since there's still a possibility of a miscarriage.
Philip: Exactly. Exactly, and if people knew it would be that much more painful to deal with, especially for Chloe if...
Philip: If people knew.
Melanie: Oh, hmm.
Melanie: It's the hospital. I have an emergency shift.
Philip: Well, there goes our day off together.
Melanie: What are you gonna do without me?
Philip: I don't know. Actually, I was thinking about going to visit Chloe, seeing if she's okay.
Melanie: How sweet of you.
Philip: Look, I know I'm not supposed to say anything. It's just gonna be too hard to not talk about any of this, but I think she'll be fine if I know.
Melanie: You sure?
Philip: Absolutely. Chloe and I go way back.
Melanie: Okay, I just hope that Daniel's not mad at me for spilling.
Philip: Trust me, I will smooth it all out. Don't worry.
Melanie: Yeah. I mean, he can't be too mad at me. You are my husband. There shouldn't be any secrets between a husband and wife.
Philip: No secrets.
Melanie: I love you.
Philip: I love you.
Melanie: I'll be back.
Nicole: You're gonna pay, EJ. Just like you made me pay at my hearing, remember?
EJ: The only thing I remember is that you were put away for months when you should have been put away for life. And now, somehow, you think you're the victim. Well, that is bloody ludicrous.
Nicole: What is ludicrous is that I didn't see it earlier, that Sami and me and her entire family coulda been spared the torment. God, that I didn't see it when I came back in town and you were all over me about what Anna said to me.
EJ: I'm sure it makes a lot of sense in your rather pathetic little mind. The problem, my dear, is you don't have any proof.
EJ: Ah, ah, ah, yeah, okay.
Nicole: Yeah, yeah, I, uh, I forgot about that.
EJ: Right. Well, I'll be going now, so good luck getting whatever help it is you clearly need.
Nicole: I lied.
EJ: Did you?
Nicole: I didn't forget.
Nicole: About the proof. I, uh... I have it right here.
Rafe: That's why they're made for the snow.
Sami: [Laughs] Oh, I guess I just wasn't looking over there. Thank you.
Rafe: Yeah. No problem.
Sami: It's amazing. They still love these penguins, you know? We go through all these phases, but the penguin is still their favorite. And you know that FBI jacket you got Johnny, he--he loves it. He wears it all the time, and he asks about you.
Rafe: Yeah? They really-- they haven't forgotten about me?
Sami: And I don't think they ever will.
Sami: [Clears throat] What? What's that about?
Rafe: What? Nothing. You leave someone's life. You know, it's-- all you have are memories. That's it, just, uh-- good or bad... you miss 'em. I miss those kids.
EJ: You recorded the conversation. Why am I not surprised? I mean, it fits in perfectly with your modus operandi. But if you think that you have something incriminating, you're going to be disappointed. What's that? Ah. Cat got your tongue? We're done here.
Stefano: Anna is the only one that knows the truth, and she has been neutralized.
EJ: She better be.
Stefano: She knows what would happen to her if she ever told anybody that you paid her to kidnap Sydney.
EJ: Can't believe I did that. I must have been out of my mind. I was just so angry at you, Samantha, and Nicole. Just wanted to make you all suffer.
Stefano: You did that in spades, huh? You made us all worry about Sydney's well being. For God's sake, you made us think that she was dead.
EJ: I know what I did, thank you.
Stefano: So this is why I keep telling you, there's no need to worry, all right? Anna is tucked away. No one is ever going to know.
Carly: Hey, Daniel.
Daniel: Carly, you know, I was just gonna call you.
Carly: Yeah? Why?
Daniel: Well, Kate said something about Vivian bothering Chloe, and then I just talked to Vivian a few seconds ago and confronted her, and she basically confirmed everything. Do you know about this? I--I did see Vivian when I went to check on Chloe, yeah.
Daniel: But that couldn't have been this morning.
Carly: No, it was last night.
Daniel: Last night? Well, why didn't you say something? Chloe didn't say anything either.
Carly: Daniel, I--
Daniel: She is a maniac, Carly--dangerous and destructive, you know that more than anybody.
Carly: I do know that but--
Daniel: Did why did you guys keep something like this from me? And why--why is it that I feel like I'm out of the loop here?
Melanie: So you don't need me to cover a shift? Okay, no, that's fine, but you do have my number if you do need me. Okay.
[Knocking at door]
Vivian: Hello, Melanie.
Melanie: What do you want?
Vivian: Why do I have to want something? You're my daughter-in-law. I came by to say hello.
Melanie: Great. Two things--one, I am not your daughter-in-law. And two, you never just come by to say hello. You always have an agenda.
Vivian: Oh, you do have my number don't you, you cutie?
Philip: So when were you gonna tell me?
Chloe: Tell you what?
Philip: That I'm about to be a father.
Vivian: You know, I saw your car out in the driveway all by its lonesome, so I thought I'd stop by while Maggie wasn't around.
Melanie: Vivian, you tried to kill me, so being alone with you is not an option, aside from the fact that we have nothing to talk about.
Vivian: Oh, but we do. You see, my wonderful marriage to Victor isn't actually turning out to be the dream I thought it would be.
Melanie: See a couples therapists.
Vivian: Whoa. You and your wonderful sense of humor.
Melanie: Seriously, Vivian, go.
Vivian: Don't you want to hear why my marriage isn't working out?
Melanie: Yeah, I could care less.
Vivian: Well, see, it's because a certain someone is getting in the way.
Melanie: I'll rephrase. Uh, I don't care.
Vivian: Oh, well, maybe you don't, but I think maybe your husband might. Think about that.
Melanie: Okay, what about my husband?
Vivian: Well, he must just hate living in this dreary place when he belongs in the mansion, and I thought if I could engineer a sort of blueprint to bring you back there that, well, then Victor would not feel so badly about me--
Melanie: I'm gonna stop you right there. Even the thought of living with you and Victor makes me physically nauseas--Philip too. I know that for a fact.
Vivian: You think you know your husband's mind, do you?
Chloe: Why do--how do you know that I'm pregnant?
Philip: Melanie told me. Apparently Daniel told her.
Chloe: Oh, my God, why can't everyone just keep their mouths shut?
Philip: Yeah, well, good luck with that. Point is you shoulda told me.
Chloe: Why? Why do you think this baby's yours?
Philip: Well, if you knew for a fact that it wasn't, if you considered the dates, you might have told me so I wouldn't didn't get the wrong idea. Also if you and Daniel had been trying to conceive for a while and nothing happened--
Chloe: Well, it's because my chances of conceiving with anyone were almost zero.
Philip: Which means what?
Chloe: Which means you're right. This baby could be either Daniel's or yours.
Chloe: What? What are you thinking?
Philip: Just that when Belle and I were trying to have a baby--ah, never mind.
Chloe: What? No, no, there's no "never mind." Why are you bringing up Belle?
Philip: No, it doesn't matter right now, okay? The point is, is you're pregnant. It could be my baby. We gotta figure out what the hell to do.
Chloe: Yeah, well, the real problem is it's not in our hands. It's in Carly's.
Carly: Daniel, I'm sorry.
Daniel: No, no, sorry is not good enough.
Carly: I came in at the end of Vivian and Chloe's conversation. I really didn't hear much of what they said, and when I questioned Vivian...
Daniel: Yeah? When you questioned her, what?
Carly: She was her horrible usual self. She was evasive and belligerent and--
Daniel: So she didn't tell you anything.
Carly: Hardly anything. What she did tell me was a lie. She said that she and Chloe were having a friendly conversation.
Daniel: Hmm. But you did go see Chloe last night, not just this morning.
Carly: But I didn't speak with her last night. That's why I went back earlier today.
Daniel: Oh, because of what we talked about?
Carly: Trying to smooth things over, yeah.
Daniel: Yeah, well, how'd it go?
Carly: Let's just say that I think Chloe and I came to an understanding.
Rafe: You know, it doesn't really matter why we're not together, Sami. We're not. That's the reality. Nothing's gonna change.
Gabi: Hey. Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt.
Rafe: Hey, Gabi. What's up?
Gabi: Oh, nothing. Just talked to will earlier. Mentioned the lost penguin. Thought I'd check it out.
Sami: Um, thank you for trying, but your brother already found the penguin, saved the day.
Rafe: Yeah. If only everything were that easy.
Nicole: Did you get all that? Well, maybe I should play it again.
Stefano: Anna is the only one that knows the truth, and she has been neutralized.
EJ: She better be.
Stefano: She knows what would happen to her if she ever told anybody that you paid her to kidnap Sydney.
Nicole: Better now? Is it--is it sinking in? How's my proof holding up, counselor? Oh, oh, I should play it again? Okay. Oh. Never would have got our final product and I truly believe that in my heart.
Melanie: Vivian, your spooky talk doesn't faze me. I do know my husband's mind, and I know that he would never want to live with you and Victor because you're certifiably insane.
Vivian: Ha. Well, thank you. Actually, I wasn't expecting a decision today. I was just trying to lay the groundwork.
Melanie: Really, it's like talking to a chair. Look, I hate you with a vengeance. And the man that you, for whatever reason, consider your son wants you dead. Is that--are we on the--is that clear enough for you?
Vivian: I was willing to let you enter my life. But you and Philip decided that you were gonna believe the vile lies that your mother told you instead.
Melanie: Vivian, you tried to kill me. What Philip and I have chosen to believe is the truth about you, thanks to my mom and dad.
Vivian: Carly wouldn't know the truth if it hit her in the face. She ruins the lives of people she loves like a reptile who eats her young.
Melanie: Can you go now, please?
Vivian: First it was Lawrence. Then it was Bo. And then my poor, naive Melanie. The circle will come right back to you.
Vivian: She will blow a hole in your world without one moment of regret. And on that day, you will wish that she had better aim the first time.
Daniel: So this understanding you came to?
Carly: I think that Chloe finally accepts the fact that I'm on her side, and yours too. I really just want the two of you to be happy.
Daniel: Really, that was the gist?
Carly: It was.
Daniel: Well, then that's great. No, it really is. I'm glad. And I'm sorry for being so brusque earlier. I just didn't like being kept out of the loop, as you know. Especially considering how high the stakes are.
Carly: I know how much honesty means to you, especially coming from me considering our past.
Daniel: Well, the important thing is that you and Chloe are making an effort to get along, to respect each other. That means a lot to me.
Carly: I know, I know it does, Daniel. I told Chloe I just want you to be happy. That's what's important to me.
Daniel: Then why do you seem so upset?
Philip: Why is it in Carly's hands?
Chloe: Because she holds all the cards. Don't you get it? Now I can't marry Daniel until I'm sure that this baby is his.
Philip: Hold up a second. You didn't tell her about us, did you?
Chloe: No, of course not. But she wants me to get a paternity test, and only then, if this baby is Daniel's, she'll keep her mouth shut.
Philip: And what if it isn't?
Chloe: Let's not go there now, please.
Philip: [Sighs] Look, Chloe, um... if it turns out that this kid, if he or she is mine... I will--I will fulfill my obligation. I won't run away, not like I did with pocket. Look, I promise you, I'll be there for you. Both of our worlds will crumble, but we'll get through this together. Everything together, okay? Come here.
Sami: I should get going. Gabi. Rafe.
Gabi: I feel terrible.
Gabi: I totally walked in on something, didn't I?
Rafe: You didn't. You didn't, I promise.
Gabi: Rafe, come on. I saw the way Sami was looking at you. And besides, there's more.
Rafe: More what?
Gabi: Last night when I was here alone with Sami, she told me that she misses you, badly.
Rafe: I know she does. Hell, I miss her too.
Gabi: Okay, but?
Rafe: That's not enough.
Nicole: [Clears throat] Uh, you are aware that I'm not an idiot, right? I mean, I made copies, a lot of copies actually with letters to go with the copies to send to Bo Brady and Abe Carver and every legal authority in the state just in case--just in case you or your sweet father try to do something to me. I mean, why do you think I waited to confront you? I had to make sure I had all my ducks in a row before I went through with my plan, so that I could see what I needed to see in person, which is you caught, you trapped in your lies and your actions, knowing that you will have to pay for everything that you've done.
EJ: What's your price?
Nicole: That's the beauty of this whole thing. There is no price.
EJ: You know, in my... quite considerable experience, I can tell you that there is always, always a price.
Nicole: For you maybe. Slave to the almighty dollar, but that's where we differ, Elvis. You see, you don't have anything I want. All I want is for your destruction.
EJ: Well, that's a very pretty speech, but I don't believe it.
Nicole: Maybe you should listen a little harder. You see, I didn't come here to strike a deal. I set up this meeting to see the look of shock in your eyes, the blood drain from your face, which it did, by the way, when you realize that this life as you know it is over.
Carly: I'm not upset. I'm tired. Got a long day ahead of me.
Daniel: Right. Right, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry. But actually, you know what, you reminded me of something I need to do before I go back. All right, so we'll talk later.
Carly: Yeah, of course.
Daniel: Thank you.
Carly: For what?
Daniel: For being such a good friend. All right. Oh, and having my back.
Carly: What am I doing? This is illegal and un-ethical. If Daniel finds out what's really going on, he's--
Melanie: Hey. Oh, I'm sorry. Are you okay? You know what, don't tell me that you are, 'cause I can see you're not.
Carly: No, I'm not okay.
Philip: So when is this gonna happen? When is Carly gonna do this?
Chloe: Oh, I don't know the exact time line, Philip. What does it even matter?
Philip: Why would you say something like that? Do you have to remind you of your horrible track record of keeping us a secret?
Philip: What, first with Nathan, now with Carly.
Chloe: I didn't tell either one of them it was you, and I never will. What do you want from me, a blood oath?
Philip: What I want from you is to keep your damn mouth shut, that's what I want. Look, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Chloe: Yeah, you should be.
Philip: Look, it's just we have another problem here, okay?
Philip: Look, it's one thing, it's one thing for us to have a one-time indiscretion. I mean, after all, we thought our respective others were cheating on us. But if it turns out... that we conceived a child from all this, it's, uh... I don't know if I can go home and lie to Melanie's face. I just--I don't know if I can do that.
Chloe: Wait. Are you saying that you want to tell Melanie the truth?
Chloe: Is that what you're thinking?
Philip: Yes, yes, that's what I'm thinking. Say "yes" to savings!
Carly: What's wrong is that I made a judgment call concerning a patient and I'm just worried that it might turn out badly.
Melanie: I'm sorry. But you're an amazing doctor, and I'm sure you made the best decision you could with the time and knowledge you had. What else can you do?
Carly: Thank you.
Melanie: You feel better?
Carly: I do feel better.
Melanie: I'm good like that.
Carly: You really are.
Melanie: Are you sure you're okay?
Carly: Yeah, in fact I feel very, very lucky I'm rebuilding my life with people that I care about. I just would hate to lose any of that.
Chloe: Philip, no. You are not telling anyone. Do you understand me? It is very, very likely that this baby I'm carrying is Daniel's and not yours. Okay? Will you look at me, please? Look at me. You are not thinking clearly right now. Say you go to Melanie and you confess to her that you cheated on her with her father's fiancé, it's gonna be over for everyone, all of us, the end. Just it'll be all ruins, no chance of recovery. Don't you see that?
Philip: Maybe you're right. I--
Philip: Okay, fine, you're totally and completely right. Okay? Totally. We'll do it your way.
Chloe: Exactly. Come on, this has to stay between us, just the two of us. We don't have a choice.
Nicole: EJ, you stay away from me. We are in a public place. Stay away.
EJ: Yeah? Who cares? It's not like I have anything to lose, do I? Hmm, Nicky?
Sami: What is going on?
Nicole: Oh, Sami, hey. Just the person I wanted to see.
On the next “Days of our Lives” --
Philip: We have to tell him the truth.
Melanie: Look me in the eye and tell me you don't love each other anymore.
Nicole: He is trying to stop me from telling you what he did all on his own. All on his own.
