Melanie: It's easy, just look me in the eye and tell me Chloe is right for my dad and isnít trying her hardest to push this wedding forward.

Philip: But you saw her. She had no idea that he was gonna do that.

Melanie: I know, I know. But then a couple hours later, they're gonna go elope? And of course Daniel will do it, because he'd do anything to make her happy.

Philip: Well, then let him. She is insecure, Melanie. We've talked about this.

Melanie: It's more than that. She's keeping something from Daniel, and I think you know what it is.

Philip: [Sighs]

Carly: Chloe wanted the two of you to elope tonight?

Daniel: Yeah, that's right.

Carly: I see.

Daniel: And this bothers you?

Carly: I--ugh. I don't understand the rush.

Daniel: Well, is it for you to understand or not to understand? Isn't this squarely in the "none of your business" territory here?

Carly: Yeah, okay.

Daniel: Yeah. Although I should welcome your advice, your being so successful at marriage and everything.

Carly: Well, I know bad marriages, and I know how they start, and a lot of times it's an impulse buy.

Daniel: This is not an impulse buy. We have been engaged for months. Carly, what is it? Why do you care? What difference does it make to you? Know what? I think it's time you tell me what the hell is really going on.

Chloe: You want me to kill Carly?

Vivian: Oh, oh, I didn't say that.

Chloe: But that's what you meant.

Vivian: Well, let's just say that I'm outraged at Carly for taking aim at lovely women who are in committed relationships and then setting out to destroy them. She wasn't satisfied what she did to Bo and Hope. And you and Daniel worship each other. And that inflames her. And she's not gonna stop until we stop her.

Chloe: So back to that word "kill"?

Vivian: Let's just say we are guiding her through the light into another world. And we both know that this world will be much better without her.

Ciara: Daddy, hurry up. I'm ready to show you my treasures.

Bo: Be right there, little one.

Hope: If she shows Bo those wallets, he'll know I did the muggings. What the hell do we do now?

Vivian: You see, I just want you to make sure she gets on an elevator at the appropriate time and then fate will decide whether she goes up or down.

Chloe: I can't do this.

Vivian: Well, I'm very surprised at you. I heard what Daniel risked for you. His medical license, his freedom, and now this woman is poised to ruin his life and you're just gonna sit there and do nothing. Well, you're obviously not the woman I thought you were.

Victor: Well, I'm so happy we could work this out. Yeah, we'll talk soon and iron out the details. Bye. Well, it's done.

Maggie: Well, thank you.

Victor: I want you to know... [Clears throat] That I'm throwing around all this money to get back into your good graces.

Maggie: Well, you can't get back to where you never were. You know, I have just always thought of you as an old reprobate.

Victor: You liar. Makes you mad that you like me.

Maggie: How are the first few hours of married life, Victor?

Victor: You're never gonna let me forget that, are you?

Maggie: You're not supposed to forget you're married, which is what I think you're trying to do.

Richard: Look, I have an idea.

Hope: Same idea you always have--cover your own butt. Time to say good-bye to my life as I know it.

Bo: Okay, what are these--

[Car alarm blaring outside]

Bo: Sit tight, little one. I'll be right back.

Hope: Nice going, Baker. Bought us a little time. Now all I need is a miracle.

[Alarm continues to blare]

Stephanie: When's the last time you think we had a real dinner?

Nathan: A real dinner? [Chuckles] I don't remember the last time I ate at an actual table.

Stephanie: We're officially too busy.

Nathan: Yeah. Not only do we work too hard, we also don't know when I'm gonna be working.

Stephanie: That's it. What I really can't stand are the 300 texts a day.

Nathan: I know, I feel like we're sneaking around. I'm always like, "Where are you? I'm all done."

Stephanie: Or "Your place or mine?"

Nathan: Yeah.

Stephanie: You know, we spend half the time we do have making plans.

Nathan: And most of the remaining time driving between each other's places, which leaves us with...

Stephanie: You know, there's a way that we can cut the wasted time.

Nathan: Oh, yeah? How?

Stephanie: We could move in together.

Nathan: That's an option.

Stephanie: And obviously not a good one.

Nathan: I didn't say that.

Stephanie: Well, I'm just very aware that when the girl brings up moving in together, the guy gets all commitment phobic.

Nathan: I just gave up the Johns Hopkins fellowship for you. Don't you think we're past that?

Stephanie: I guess so.

Nathan: You guess so?

Stephanie: I hope so.

Nathan: Better. I want you to think it was a great decision that I made.

Stephanie: I think it was a great decision. And I think you're a great guy.

Nathan: That's right. Get over here.

Philip: We have been over this.

Melanie: Yeah, and we're gonna keep going over it until you tell me what you know.

Philip: Here's what I know, okay? If your father and Chloe think that getting married is gonna help pull them together, then we should let them. We should just stay out of it.

Chloe: I shouldn't have come here. I shouldn't even listen to you.

Vivian: I think you came here subconsciously because you know that I am your last and best hope.

Chloe: No, you want me to do your dirty work.

Vivian: I just want you to do what I can't. Get Carly on that elevator.

Chloe: You're asking me to kill her.

Vivian: Oh, let that be my responsibility. Let that be on my conscience.

Chloe: You have one?

Vivian: Oh, yes, I do. I have a very clear idea of what's right and wrong, and Carly's wrong. And she has to be stopped.

Carly: I don't know what you're talking about.

Daniel: Really? You really don't? Look, look, you're a doctor. You've just reconnected with the daughter you had to give away. You're in love with Bo. And now you got all this time to hound me about my love life.

Carly: Trying to help you. You're my friend, and I care about you.

Daniel: All right, well, then get me a toaster after we're married. That's what friends do. They don't steer each other's lives.

Carly: But what if--

Daniel: Da--da--hmm, hmm. Not more buts. No more ifs. I am marrying Chloe. And there's nothing you can say about it.

Carly: [Sighs]

[Car alarm sounds outdoors]

Caroline: Ciara, honey, it's time to put the chocolate chips in the cookies.

Ciara: I'll be right there.

Hope: I owe you one.

Melanie: Okay, look, you keep saying that we should move on, but I just don't--I don't feel like you mean it.

Philip: [Exhales]

Melanie: I'm driving you crazy, huh?

Philip: Uh-huh, yeah.

Melanie: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

Philip: Don't be sorry. Look, I know you love your father and you worry about him. But you need to accept that Chloe is not like you, and she isn't like your mother.

Melanie: I know that.

Philip: Yeah, but you act like it's some sort of bad thing. I mean, you need to let Chloe be the person that she is, the person that your father fell in love with.

Melanie: I made you really mad, huh?

Philip: No, just frustrated.

Melanie: I'm sorry. I'm new at being the family-- just don't be mad at me.

Philip: I love you. I love being married to you. I just want us to be happy, so let's concentrate on our lives and let your father concentrate on his.

[Cell phone rings]

Nathan: [Sighs] Excuse me. Sorry.

[Ringing continues]

Nathan: Oh, man.

Stephanie: What?

Nathan: There's this great kid, Ben. He's about seven years old. He was born with a weak heart, and he's been in and out of the hospital his entire life. He's back.

Stephanie: Poor little guy.

Nathan: I know. Oh, and his parents, Steph, can you believe this, they're our age. His dad, I should be asking him to play hoops with us instead of telling him that his son-- I'm sorry, I gotta go.

Stephanie: You wouldn't be you if you didn't.

Nathan: I know. There's no place in the world lonelier than a hospital in the middle of the night.

Stephanie: I know. Wait. You know what I've always loved about you? The fact that you can see things from someone else's point of view. I think that's gonna make you a great father one day.

Nathan: Thank you. But yes, one day. I have some things to take care of first.

Stephanie: Yeah?

Nathan: Yeah. My residency for one. Climb Mount Everest. Maybe even grow up a little bit.

Stephanie: You don't think you're grown up?

Nathan: No, I mean, I'm grown up, just not as much as I want to be to be the dad that I want to be. You know, the kind that sticks around. One that actually gives a damn about his kids' every day-to-day life.

Stephanie: Yeah, we have that absent father thing in common.

Nathan: Yeah. That's gonna be the biggest commitment of my life. It really is, so that decision is going to be one of the most important decisions I make.

Stephanie: I never thought about it like that.

Nathan: Hmm. I'll see you, okay?

Victor: You know, you surprise me, Maggie. I wouldn't think you would have such an old-fashioned view of marriage. It's 2010. Just because she and I are husband and wife doesn't mean that Vivian and I are joined at the hip.

Maggie: You got married this afternoon. You have yet to celebrate a one-day anniversary.

Victor: I know, and it seems like we've been married for such a long, long time.

Maggie: Okay, I'm gonna nip this in the bud.

Victor: Nip what?

Maggie: I didn't think that you should marry her, but you did anyway. So I'm gonna respect your vows even if you don't. I don't want you dropping by here for tea and sympathy, complaining about the old ball and chain.

Victor: Were you this bossy with Mickey?

Maggie: I didn't have to be. He wasn't an idiot like you, Victor. Go home. As they say, it's time to face the music. [Chuckles]

Victor: What?

Maggie: I just had this mental picture of Vivian on her wedding night, perched on the edge of the bed in her new peignoir, a ribbon at her throat.

Victor: I hate you.

Maggie: Scared but oddly excited. A flower waiting to be plucked.

Victor: I really, really hate you.

Maggie: Bye, Victor. Send me a card from Niagara Falls.

Victor: I'm glad you think this is funny, because it sure as hell isn't.

[Car alarm blares outside]

Bo: Okay, I'm back.

Hope: Good work. I got them back.

Bo: Ciara, where are you? Little one?

Ciara: Daddy, don't peek.

Bo: Um, I already did, and there's nothing in here.

Stephanie: Aunt Adrienne, I'm so glad you're here.

Adrienne: Well, you better get used to it. The sale on this place fell through, and in this economy it looks like I could be here for a while.

Stephanie: I think that's great.

Adrienne: Yeah?

Stephanie: I could really use some adult supervision.

Melanie: I just want Chloe and Daniel to be as happy as we are. You know, and it's not that I don't get along with Chloe. We got along when she was in the hospital.

Philip: She was in a coma.

Melanie: [Chuckles] When she woke up. Look, just... Chloe's kinda shy. You know, and I tend to talk a lot, and I'm just worried that they're not as open as are. I think us being honest is one of the reasons our marriage is so great.

Philip: Yeah, we're going on our fourth month.

Melanie: Mm-hmm. We're gonna be together forever. And no one's gonna get in the way of that.

[Door closes]

Melanie: [Clears throat]

Carly: You're right.

Daniel: I always am.

Carly: I mean it. I mean, my concern for you and Chloe, I hope it hasn't messed up our friendship, because it really matters to me.

Daniel: Does to me too. To be fair, I know I shared some of my problems about Chloe with you and maybe I, um, I shouldn't have. I guess, what, with us working together--you, Melanie, and I-- and I guess our lives converged somewhat. It's kinda hard to set the boundaries.

Carly: You were pretty clear with me tonight. Thanks for setting me straight, and consider the subject closed.

Daniel: Okay.

Carly: Okay.

Daniel: I know that it's complicated with Chloe. But I also know that more than anything I want her to be my wife.

Carly: Then I hope you two are really, really happy.

Daniel: Thank you.

Chloe: Daniel? [Sighs] You are seriously considering killing someone. Oh, this can't go on. I have to tell Daniel the truth. Tonight.

Caroline: Something wrong?

Ciara: My treasures are gone.

Caroline: Gone?

Bo: Yeah, she said she left them in here when she went out to the kitchen to help you.

Caroline: Oh.

Ciara: I'm not lying.

Bo: Yeah, I didn't say you were. I'm just wondering what happened to them.

Ciara: I don't know.

Caroline: Well, that's-- that's a bad surprise. No wonder you're upset. You know, what I think you need is a good surprise. And I think I just happen to have one.

Ciara: You do?

Caroline: I do. I was gonna give you this for your first communion. But I think this is a good time. It's my mother's rosary. You know, whenever I get upset or sad I just--makes me feel not so alone. Here you go. That's a treasure too.

Ciara: I won't lose it, Grandma. I promise. I'm gonna go put it away right now.

Caroline: Good.

Bo: Come right back. I--I don't know what's going on.

Caroline: She has a vivid imagination. She just bumped up against reality.

Bo: Yeah. Hope's really worried about her too.

Caroline: Well, she should be. I mean, there's not much in Ciara's world she can count on these days.

Bo: And you blame Hope and me, don't you?

Caroline: No, of course not. I'm--it's--just got to learn to roll with the punches, huh? Right?

Bo: [Exhales deeply] Oh, Fancy Face, what have we done?

Hope: [Sighs]

Richard: You all right?

Hope: Oh, my God, such a headache.

Richard: You look a little pale.

Hope: What are you still doing here? Not the safest place for you to be.

Richard: Well, you're still here. I'm not going anywhere.

Adrienne: Um, not sure my experience is exactly typical. You know, what with adopting twins and then having a surprise pregnancy, Justin and I had the equivalent of triplets. And we also had Alexander, so, you know, things were pretty chaotic for a long time.

Stephanie: You smile when you talk about it.

Adrienne: Yeah. It was the happiest time of my life. Those children were wanted, sweetheart. This friend of yours, well, does she want to be pregnant?

Stephanie: You do know I'm not talking about a friend.

Adrienne: Are you pregnant?

Stephanie: I don't know. I mean, I could be.

Adrienne: Stephanie, you can tell me anything. But I'm not gonna pry.

Stephanie: Well, I thought if Nathan and I had a baby, then he would--we'd-- I stopped taking my birth control pills, and I didn't tell Nathan about it.

Adrienne: Oh.

Stephanie: You hate me now, don't you?

Adrienne: No.

Stephanie: No, it's okay. I hate me too. What the hell was I thinking?

Melanie: Hey, were you on call tonight?

Nathan: Ben Waterson's back. He had palpitations. His parents got scared.

Melanie: Of course they did.

Nathan: Yeah. That kid though, I'll tell you. First I walk in, he's like, "Eh, what's up, doc?" Then he starts ribbing me about the Cubs, like--

Melanie: Ohh. Is he gonna be okay?

Nathan: Well, I talked to Dr. Cummings. He's not sure.

Melanie: Oh, my God, I'm so sorry.

Philip: [Sighs]

Daniel: Hey, Chloe. Something wrong?

Chloe: I don't know how to do this except to just say it.

Daniel: Then just say it.

Chloe: When I thought that you were with Carly--

Daniel: Can we just leave all that behind us, okay?

Chloe: I slept with Philip. And I don't want to hurt you, but I couldn't marry you without you knowing.

Daniel: Philip. Melanie's husband, Philip.

Chloe: He thought that she didn't love him.

Daniel: Hmm. So you decide to just comfort him in that special way?

Chloe: I was crazy, okay? I thought I'd lost you.

Daniel: Mmm. Did you? So then you just slept with my daughter's husband?

Chloe: Yeah, but--

Daniel: Yeah, but you didn't think to find me, to talk to me. No, of course not. Because some stranger or voice in your head told you that I was screwing around on you, and you just took it for gospel, right?

Chloe: Daniel--

Daniel: Yeah, and then you just hit the sheets with my son-in-law, didn't you? You did. I remember you wringing your hands, racked with guilt, because you cheated on Lucas. Yeah, but that didn't stop you from having another go at it though, did it?

Chloe: No, it was just once. I was out of my mind.

Daniel: It happened just once. It'll never happen again, right?

Chloe: No, it won't.

Daniel: You are damn right it won't. 'Cause you will never cheat on me again. We are through.

Chloe: No. I'm sorry.

Daniel: You can save it! Just save it, because I've seen it before. All of it. And surely you gotta remember that, right? 'Cause I have, I've seen it. And you didn't just hurt me. Uh-uh. You hurt Melanie. Hmm. No, Carly's right. Not just are you a whack-job, but you screwed up everything you touch.

Chloe: Oh, my God, I can't do it. He'll never understand. Never.

Victor: Well, you're leaving me. Well, that's a damn shame. Oh, well, we gave it best shot, right?

Vivian: Victor, I'm really not in the mood for your juvenile humor. We're late on our honeymoon.

Victor: Yes, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. What do you think about a "staycation"? You know, you stay in your room, I'll stay in mine.

Vivian: You do whatever the hell you want. I'm getting out of here now.

Caroline: I'm so sorry.

Bo: No, Ma, don't worry about it, really. I've said much worse to myself.

Caroline: Well, we're gonna take care of her. You know, she's gonna be just fine.

Ciara: I put the rosary under my pillow.

Caroline: Oh, well, that's where I put mine.

[Oven timer dings]

Caroline: Oh, time to take the cookies out of the oven. Would you like me to make you some coffee?

Bo: No thanks, Ma. I'm fine.

Caroline: Okay.

Bo: Come here, you.

Ciara: Do you know what happened to my secret treasures?

Bo: No, little one, I don't.

Ciara: Neither do I.

Hope: [Sighs] Are you trying to tell me you care what happens to me?

Richard: Surprised me too.

Hope: If you do, you're the only one who does.

Stephanie: I'm so glad you're still here.

Adrienne: Me too.

Stephanie: But I have to say, if I'm pregnant, I just-- I can't do that.

Adrienne: All right, all right, slow down, please. There's something we need to talk about.

Melanie: Well, I'll be in tomorrow, and you tell Ben I'll try and sneak him in a donut.

Nathan: All right. I hope I didn't bum you out. All right, see ya.

Melanie: I'm sorry. It's just kind of hard when it's a kid, you know?

Philip: Yeah, I get that.

Melanie: Look, I know it's always gonna be a little weird between you two.

Philip: Look, you know what, you guys work together. It's an intense job.

Melanie: Mm-hmm. Philip...

Philip: Hmm?

Melanie: I want you to know I'm not mad at you for kinda jumping on me earlier. I know I can be a little pushy, and you have to know that you can push back and that we can talk about things.

Philip: Melanie.

Melanie: Mm-hmm?

Philip: If I ask you something, will you please try and accommodate me?

Melanie: Of course, anything. I love you, just name it.

Philip: Would you stop talking, please?

Melanie: Except that. I can't do that. You know me, I never stop talking.

Philip: I can think of a way.

Melanie: Hmm?

Philip: Let's go home.

Melanie: Okay. Oh.

Philip: Here you are, love.

Melanie: Mmm, thank you very much.

Vivian: And I want you to put this number into your phone.

Chloe: Whose number is it?

Vivian: Let's just say it's someone who will help you give Carly exactly what she deserves.

Chloe: [Sighs] No. I can't do this.

[Phone rings] Hello?

Carly: Chloe, it's me, Carly.

Chloe: [Sighs]

Hope: You're staying for me?

Richard: Look, I really didn't want this. God knows I don't need it in my life. But, um, tonight when we were talking about everything you'd lost, we have that in common. Of course I pretty much screwed up everything all on my own, and this all just happened to you.

Hope: You don't know that.

Richard: I kinda do. Look, I-- I know how weird this is. And I just want you to know that you're not alone. There's at least one person on your side. And that's me.

Adrienne: So you take the pill, and it will prevent a pregnancy.

Stephanie: What if I'm already pregnant?

Adrienne: It won't harm the baby. It's meant to be emergency birth control.

Stephanie: Oh, my God. This is so unfair to Nathan, to the baby.

Adrienne: Honey, we don't even know if there is a baby. All right, let's just take this one step at a time. We'll get you the pill, and we'll see what happens, okay?

Stephanie: Okay. You know, earlier when Nathan left me 'cause he had to go back to the hospital, I felt so alone. I couldn't call my mom. I didn't want to talk to her about this on the phone.

Adrienne: So God got in there and said, "That Adrienne broad, she ain't going nowhere. She got work to do."

Stephanie: Thank you.

Adrienne: Oh, honey. It's been a long time since I felt like I was of use to anybody. Of all the joints in all the world, thank God you walked into mine.

Carly: I spoke with Daniel. You didn't tell him.

Chloe: No, not yet.

Carly: You're not going to. You told him you wanted to elope, that you wanted to get married as soon as you could.

Chloe: Why are you doing this to me?

Carly: Don't you see, Chloe? The lies are really starting to build up.

Chloe: You don't understand. You don't understand anything.

Carly: Look, I know you're scared.

Chloe: She was right.

Carly: What?

Chloe: You just hate me. You can't stand that Daniel and I are happy.

Carly: Chloe, that's crazy.

Chloe: Don't say that! Don't say that word to me!

Carly: Oh, my God, Daniel, you have to know.

Maggie: Oh, Daniel. Oh, my goodness, it's beautiful.

Daniel: Yeah? You think she'll like it?

Maggie: Oh, I do, I do. It's elegant and classic, just like Chloe.

Daniel: Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Maggie: Yeah.

Daniel: Can I, um, can I put you on the spot?

Maggie: You need a loan?

Daniel: No, no, no, no. No. Do you think Chloe and I-- I mean, it's okay that we're getting married.

Maggie: Are you getting cold feet?

Daniel: No, pssh, no. It's just not everyone thinks this is a marriage made in heaven.

Maggie: Oh. So you came by to check it out with your severest critic.

Daniel: Yeah. And a wise friend.

Maggie: Well, dear friend, we both know I wasn't in your corner for a very long, long time. But after everything the two of you have been through, if you still make it to the altar, I say more power to you.

Daniel: Thank you. And we're gonna make it to the altar. What could stop us now?

Maggie: [Chuckles]

Daniel: Right?

Maggie: Yeah.

Vivian: Oh, I told you I packed for you. Now hurry up, we're late.

Victor: Well, I couldn't leave without this.

Vivian: You're taking that book on our honeymoon?

Victor: It's Durant's History of Civilization. I'm just getting to the good part.

Vivian: Oh, fine, well, you can catch me up on it on the plane.

Victor: You know, I hope they heat the nuts. The last time they didn't heat the nuts.

Vivian: Victor, you're torturing me.

Victor: Am I? I'm sorry. Just one more thing and then we can go. I hope this determination of yours to get out of town is a young bride's desire to be alone with her new hubby and not a desire for an alibi.

Vivian: I don't even know what you're talking about.

Victor: Well, then I'll make it crystal clear. If anything, anything happens to Carly, it won't bother me that you're not at the scene of the crime. I know how you operate, Vivian. Anything happens to her, you're going to find out the true meaning of "till death do us part."

Nathan: Hey.

Stephanie: Hi.

Nathan: Guess who has dinner. What do you say that we eat at a dining room table like normal people?

Stephanie: I didn't expect you to be back so soon.

Nathan: Oh, I'm sorry. Did I scare you? What's this?

Victor: Oh, Vivian, don't look so grim. Open and honest communication is the basis of a good marriage.

Vivian: Well, I don't know why you would say I would do anything to hurt Carly. We had a deal.

Victor: Well, good. Then we understand each other. And so... to Niagara in a sleeper. There's no honeymoon that's cheaper. And the train goes slow. Vivian, don't keep me waiting. This is the night that we've been dreaming of.

Vivian: [Sighs]

Bo: You sure you're all right? You sound upset.

Carly: Yeah, I'm just a little worried about...

Bo: About?

Carly: A patient. I'm sure everything's gonna be fine. I'm probably just overreacting.

Bo: Okay. Why don't you give me a call when your shift is over?

Carly: I will. I love you.

Bo: I love you too. You know what, little one?

Ciara: What?

Bo: I just remembered something. I have a treasure of my own. I got it when I was in the Merchant Marine.

Ciara: Can I see it?

Bo: You can not only see it. You can have it. I'm gonna go up and get it. You wait right here, okay?

Hope: It's just so strange that...

Richard: I know. And I'm sorry.

Hope: I believe you.

Nicole: I'm the only one who can clear Arianna.

Arianna: Could you do me one more favor?

Chloe: I have to talk to you right now.
