EJ: Well, I appreciate your kind words.
Sami: They're not just words. My children, our children, they adore you.
Will: Why don't you let us speak for ourselves, Mom?
Will: "Barely tolerate" is more like it.
Sami: You don't have to be rude.
Will: He's been a lot worse to you.
Sami: You chose to live here, Will. You are his guest.
Will: So are you. So save the lecture. Later.
Sami: All right, Will, you know what? We have to-- that's really embarrassing. I'm sorry.
EJ: Uh, don't. No need to apologize.
Sami: It's not about you. You have to know that. I mean, he's just angry at me, and he thinks I'm a lousy parent, which I obviously am.
Sami: Hey, Samantha, please, just don't. All right? Don't.
Sami: I mean, he has every reason to think that. I don't have a job. I don't have a house. I don't have a partner.
EJ: I see. So, uh, this is about your conversation with Rafe?
Sami: It wasn't even a conversation.
EJ: Look, Samantha, just... don't let whatever he said or didn't say reflect on your feelings about your maternal abilities. You're a wonderful mother. I mean, look at everything you've done for your kids this last year. You moved in here.
Sami: It's turning out not to be such a sacrifice.
Calliope: This is terrible. You're being so nice to me. It's...
Anna: Calliope, what's wrong?
Calliope: This is wrong. This--ugh.
Anna: What is? I mean, you said yourself that it was fate that brought us together.
Calliope: It's not fate. It was--ah, I can't tell you.
Anna: Oh, honey, it's okay. I mean, it's all right. I do. I know exactly what is making you so upset.
Calliope: You do? Aah!
Arianna: That's it. Do we have a date?
Brady: We have a date.
Arianna: We have a date!
Brady: We have a date.
Arianna: Yeah! Mwah. We're gonna do this. We're getting married. It's gonna happen.
Brady: We're doing it.
Arianna: Oh, good.
Brady: So, all right, where do you want to go? For the honeymoon? Name it.
Arianna: Anywhere. Except the Caribbean during hurricane season.
Nicole: Wherever you go... hurricane Nicole will follow.
EJ: Not a sacrifice? Huh. And this is coming from the lady who refers to this house as a mausoleum, right?
Sami: Well, parts of it are certainly creepy, just like Stefano and Kate, but you're right. There are advantages. The maid, the chef, the heated pool. The truth is, what matters the most to me is being with my kids, and... and you made that possible. I owe you for getting me my daughter back.
EJ: You don't owe me anything, Samantha. Look, I have to admit, my motives, uh... were not exactly unselfish.
Rafe: Damn it. What the hell is wrong with this thing? Calliope, don't do anything stupid.
Calliope: Oh! What are you gonna do?
Anna: What do you think? I'm gonna run, of course. And if you get in my way, so help me god, I'll run you over like a bull in Pamplona.
Rafe: Ken, I've got an equipment malfunction here. No, just stand by. I might need you to intervene. If I go in now, it's all over. Come on.
Kate: Good afternoon.
Kate: Oh. Sorry. You want to talk about it?
Will: No. You weren't around.
Kate: Thanks. I, um, I didn't even know it was gone.
Will: How come you never told me you knew Chad's mom?
Madeline: How long did we work on your application essay? How many times did you take the SATs?
Chad: Mom, would you please just--
Madeline: How many times did we look for that thick envelope from Wake Forest in the mail? And now you're just gonna go to Salem U? Your third safety school?
Chad: Just breathe, Mom.
Madeline: Why don't you just get your degree online?
Chad: You went to Salem U.
Madeline: For law school. That is--that's a completely different matter. Chad, why?
Chad: All right, look, I can't play ball for an ACC school, okay? If I go to Salem U, I could redshirt my way in--
Madeline: Wait a minute. You are choosing a college based on a sport in which you don't even excel?
Chad: Yeah, well, uh, you're the one that said I should be well-rounded.
Madeline: Then play intramurals, for God's sakes. But not at Salem U. You are going away to college, and that is that.
[Cell phone rings]
Baker: [Groans] Hello?
Nicole: Rise and shine, Dick.
Baker: What's up?
Nicole: You. It's time to move on our plan. Today.
EJ: I mean, after the, you know, the hell we went through over Johnny's custody... I just--I never imagined that we'd be...able to find ourselves in a situation that vaguely resembles domestic bliss.
Sami: Heh! It's pretty vague.
EJ: I think my greatest hope was that we wouldn't find ourselves in a constant state of acrimony. But we've done much better.
Sami: [Sighs] Hate to admit this, but when I found out I was pregnant with Sydney... I thought it was a huge mistake. And now, every minute I spend with her, it's... it's such a joy. And I can't help but think about the lies that I told you about her, and... I don't know how you forgave me for that.
EJ: Well, it's no use dwelling on our mistakes, Samantha. We all have them.
Sami: Yeah, we do.
Anna: Okay. Oh, my passport. Oh. Okay. Oh.
Rafe: Leaving paradise so soon?
Baker: Thank you so much for all the advance notice to do your bidding.
Nicole: All you have to do is bash someone over the head. What's so hard? I'm doing all the work.
Baker: Tell that to my partner in crime.
Nicole: Well, I would if you told me who she was.
Baker: No can do.
Nicole: Look, you know, I don't really care who you roll just as long as it's not Brady this time, okay? And you can keep the cash. Just pick any rich dude off the street.
Baker: So how you gonna frame this girl?
Nicole: You leave that to me.
Baker: Call me crazy...
Baker: But shouldn't there be an easier way to a guy's heart? My mother always said it was through a pot roast.
Nicole: I don't cook. Besides, I already have his heart. It's just his head that needs to catch up. And it won't be much longer after tonight.
Will: Look, you really don't have to buy me coffee, and I don't know what else there is to say about my mom. It's been the same old story ever since I was born. But it was very smooth, though, the way you changed the subject. Why won't you answer my question?
Kate: What question is that?
Will: What is up with you and Chad's mom?
Madeline: Chad. Chad, this is about you. You've always been excited about going away to school, about having the whole college experience. Chad, why are you really changing your mind? Oh, it's because of these new, so-called friends, isn't it?
Chad: Right, right. I want to hang out with friends. How twisted is that?
Madeline: Well, I don't like their influence on you.
Chad: You wouldn't by chance be referring to Will Horton, now would you?
Madeline: I've told you. I have nothing personal against Will. It's just--
Chad: His family. Right, right, I know. So you've said 100 times.
Madeline: Well, I'm sorry to bore you.
Chad: And I'm sorry... can't wait to send me thousands of miles away, where you won't have to deal with me.
Madeline: What? Chad, that is not the issue here.
Chad: It's funny. I thought you'd be happy I was staying so close to home. So how come... suddenly feels like...can't wait to get rid of me?
Rafe: It's a mother's ring. So it has birthstones for all your kids--Will, Johnny, Allie, Sydney, and grace.
Rafe: Did you really think that you could outrun me?
Anna: But you don't have any jurisdiction here, Mr. G-man. There's no extradition. You can't touch me.
Rafe: Watch me.
EJ: [Clears throat] You know, Samantha... you may no longer be with Rafe... but you're still your children's mother.
Sami: Just doesn't feel right to, um, wear it on my finger. Maybe I'll get a chain or something for it.
Stefano: Ooh. Oh, am I interrupting?
Sami: Uh, hey, you know, I have some things I got to do.
Stefano: Samantha, anything wrong?
Sami: Nothing. I'm fine. I'm just gonna go.
Stefano: Well, huh. It seems that, uh, your wiles are working their magic.
EJ: No thanks to you.
Stefano: Actually, hmm. It's entirely thanks to me. Now, look, I do not like to have to always be repetitious, but all I have to do is say one word to Samantha about the baby and about Anna and all of that, right? Then you and Samantha will be finished forever.
[Knock at door]
Rafe: Come in. Calliope. Now this here, that's what we call the long arm of the law.
Anna: You see? You see, calliope? This is the thanks you get. I offered to solve all your problems and to share some of my very hard-earned money with you. But you decided to trust him instead of your old friend Anna, and now you've got nothing.
Calliope: I'm so sorry.
Rafe: Don't be sorry. I actually still have one final offer. For both of you.
Calliope: I'm listening.
Rafe: Freedom. Yeah. All Anna has to do here is give me what I need. I'll hold up my end of the bargain. And, uh, you make restitution with the IRS, you and your husband go free.
Anna: Wait a minute. Your husband? Eugene didn't leave you for some bimbette?
Calliope: I lied.
Anna: Ooh, of course you lied. And to think that I felt sorry for you, calliope, because I know what it feels like to really lose a husband. How could you?
Calliope: I did it for you. I did it for him. I did it for Eugene. I mean, he said we could have a life.
Anna: I don't know what's happening with you. Because I am the one who is supposed to be selfish.
Rafe: Okay, focus here.
Calliope: Listen, can you just focus on--on all the hems I did for you for free in the middle of night? And good times? Please?
Agent: Say goodbye.
Calliope: Ow. Hasta la vista, Anna.
Anna: Hasta la... never. She certainly couldn't expect that I'd help her out now.
Rafe: Yeah. Well, you may not care about your good old friend calliope, but I'll bet you care about yourself. All right, listen. You help me, I'll help you. You don't help me, you can say goodbye to anything and everything you ever held dear.
Brady: Sorry. Didn't mean to startle you.
Nicole: Yeah, well, it's unnatural, you know, the way you sneak up on people without a sound.
Brady: Yeah, Ari tells me that all the time. Why are you so jumpy, though? You afraid I'm gonna spoil your top secret undercover expose?
Brady: Don't worry. I didn't hear a thing.
Brady: Must be some story. Ari was telling me that you didn't even trust her to shred your files, and obviously from your reaction, you don't even trust me, so...
Nicole: No. No, that is not true. I always trust you, Brady. I'm just--I'm protecting a source.
Brady: Okay. You don't have to explain anything to me.
Nicole: And if I seem a little jumpy, it's just 'cause the last time I was here some guy was mugged, collapsed in my arms, and bled all over my new blouse.
Brady: Ah. Sorry. Well, you need to be careful when you're out here alone, you know?
Nicole: Yeah, well, it's not like I have a lot of alternatives, but that's okay. Who needs friends to look after you when you've done hard time?
Brady: You have friends.
Nicole: Who? You? You who couldn't wait to get me out of town or do anything you could to get me out of town? You know I'll never let you live that down.
Brady: I know you won't. Just want what's best for you.
Nicole: And I just want what's best for both of us.
Arianna: Oh, hi.
Nicole: Sorry to interrupt your lunch hour, or three, but we still have some work to do before tonight's broadcast.
Arianna: Absolutely. So I'll talk to you later, then. We can finish making our honeymoon plans?
Arianna: I love you.
Brady: I love you too.
Kate: Okay, look, Salem is a very small place. You know Chad because you go to school with him, and I know the Peterson-Woods. You know, from charity events, golf tournaments. We go around in the same social circles.
Will: Well, I've never seen you two together.
Kate: That's because we're not good friends. We hardly know each other. Which is the way I'd like to keep it.
Will: That's kind of funny.
Will: That is exactly what Chad's mom said to him about us.
EJ: Oh, I'm quite sure you're not threatening me.
Stefano: Oh, you have my word.
EJ: Mm. You just love it, don't you? Get to remind me of all this power that you have over my life.
Stefano: Well, of course. As it should be. After all, I am your father, huh? Uh, but just to set the record straight, Samantha is the mother of your children, my grandchildren. All right. Don't you think I understand, Elvis? Hmm? That once you are a father, it's all about family?
EJ: You're not actually, uh... you're--you're not actually admitting that, uh, Samantha is a part of this family, are you?
Stefano: Well, as much as the idea pains me...
EJ: Father, hey.
Stefano: Look, out of respect for your children, I will not say a word, all right? But that does not mean I have to like it...or her.
EJ: Sure. You've made that very clear. Just, uh, don't interfere, okay?
Stefano: Not to worry. You know, I don't have to lift a finger to make trouble. No, I'm going to leave that absolutely up to Samantha, because she has a really good track record when it comes to making trouble.
Will: Mm. I will take one.
Will: Or at least a piece. Well, two pieces.
Kate: Hi, Sami. Hey. Why don't you join us?
Sami: Uh, no, it's okay. Um--
Kate: No, please, please. Sit down. Have a scone? So, um, I'm sure the two of you could probably go for a talk, right? All alone? It's kind of hard to have an uninterrupted conversation in the DiMera mansion these days. It's always time to have tea or--or time to play hide and seek or the FBI are knocking on the door. Anyway, um, talk. Enjoy the scones. Don't worry about me. I'm going.
Will: Hanging out with my mom. Really not cool.
Sami: That's what you're gonna worry about? Whether or not it's cool?
Will: No, I just thought it sounded better than, "Get out of my face. I don't want to talk to you."
Sami: I get it, will, you don't want to talk to me. But I always want to talk to you.
Madeline: It doesn't have to be Wake Forest. You got into four schools. Don't rush the decision.
Rafe: Listen, Anna. I know that it wasn't your idea to take Sydney. Or to fake her death, or to make the people that loved her suffer. Whoever did this is still out there. Free. Now, they're the ones who should be suffering. Not you. I understand that you want justice for Tony. I want justice for Sydney. What do you say? Help me out here.
Anna: I gather you're doing this for Sami.
Rafe: No. I'm actually doing it for Sydney. If she's still in danger, I need to know.
Anna: But you love Sami.
Rafe: I do.
Anna: Then you're a fool.
Will: Did you really not have anything better to do than follow me here?
Sami: I didn't follow you here. But, no, I have nothing better to do than to be your mom. And when you're willing to talk, I'm ready to listen.
Will: About what?
Sami: How you feel? I know you're upset that Rafe is gone. I am too.
Will: Oh, it doesn't seem that way to me.
Sami: What are you talking about?
Will: What is up with you and EJ, Mom?
Sami: I don't know what you mean.
Will: Twice I walked in on the two of you looking like you were about to kiss.
Sami: No, we weren't.
Will: Can you not be without a guy for two seconds, mom?
Sami: We're supposed to be talking about you.
Will: Do you really need me to tell you how I feel? You can't take the hint? I hate you, Mom. You feel better now?
Chad: Hi, Mrs. R. I mean, Mrs. D.
Kate: Hello, Chad, Madeline.
Chad: I'm sorry. I'm, uh, I'm late for a shift, so I'm just gonna--yeah.
Madeline: We'll talk later.
Chad: You mean you'll talk.
Kate: Well, hello.
Madeline: Might we take this conversation elsewhere?
Kate: I was thinking just the same thing.
Will: I'm sorry, but you asked.
Will: Oh, there's Chad. I, um, got to work with him on my Espaņol project.
Sami: Hey, hey, hey. Hate me if you want... but I will always love you.
Brady: Hey, Will. Hi.
Sami: Hey, hey.
Brady: How you doing? What's wrong? You want some coffee or something?
Sami: Oh, definitely, yes, but I want to talk about you. Obviously you've seen Nicole.
Brady: How can you tell that?
Sami: It's the tension in the shoulders. What'd she do?
Brady: Sami, she didn't do anything. Nothing.
Sami: I know. It's true, isn't it? Just her breathing, it's really--
Brady: Stop. And you know what? Today's a good day. Because Ari and I set a wedding date.
Sami: Come on. That's awesome. Congratulations.
Brady: I know. I'm happy about it.
Sami: That makes me so happy for you. I want to help. How can I help?
Brady: You don't--you don't need to help. I got it under control. I got the tux, I got the honeymoon, got the girl. I'm--I'm--
Sami: Then I'll be in charge of making sure Nicole doesn't wreck it.
Arianna: So you finally gonna tell me about this undercover story that you're working on?
Arianna: Why not?
Nicole: Well, it--it's kind of this long-term thing, and if it doesn't pan out, I wouldn't want you to waste your time.
Arianna: You're up to something. Again.
Nicole: You are the most paranoid person I know. And that is saying a hell of a lot.
Arianna: I'm not paranoid. You got yourself sprung two months into a 20-year prison sentence, and then flew to the Caribbean to wreck my marriage.
Nicole: Hey, I didn't know you were there.
Arianna: But you knew Brady was there, and you want him back.
Nicole: Look, my feelings are not your concern. It's Brady's feelings your should be worried about.
EJ: Hey! Come here.
EJ: Somebody's been eating chocolate. Oh!
Stefano: What--what--whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What is that?
EJ: It's a gift--
Stefano: What is that?
EJ: It's a gift from Rafe, okay? Hey.
Stefano: Take it off. Take it off. I mean, look outside. It's 85 degrees. Take it off. Take it off.
Johnny: It's not warm.
Stefano: Sweetheart, please. Don't argue with me, all right? Just take it off.
EJ: Okay. Why don't we do this, okay? Why don't you go upstairs and tell Mary to get you something else to wear, because we don't want to get chocolate all over this, do we? Mm, mm, no, we don't.
Johnny: Uh, there still chocolate on my face?
EJ: A little bit. Go and see if Mary can get it off you. Okay? Father, don't tell my son what to do.
Stefano: All right, all right. I know he has to show respect to his father, but that respect comes by example. From you.
Arianna: Well, I'm not worried about Brady's feelings, because whatever he felt for you has been over for a very long time.
Nicole: You just keep telling yourself that.
Arianna: Fantastic. So how are we supposed to do this? You know, work together, when you keep saying things like that?
Nicole: You can always quit.
Arianna: Or you.
Nicole: Okay, there has got to be some way for us to share space without wanting to claw each other's eyes out. Ah, we can always drink.
Arianna: All right. Call me paranoid again, but should I be worried that you're trying to poison me?
Nicole: Please, okay? We can watch the bartender open the bottle. And, trust me, if I wanted to get rid of you, I would be much more creative than that.
Brady: I'm not gonna let Nicole ruin my wedding. I won't let her do it.
Sami: I won't either.
Brady: Thank you for your support. I appreciate that. Now, do you want to talk about why you were so upset when I walked in?
Sami: I had a fight with Will.
Brady: Sami, he's a teenager. You remember what you were like when you were 16? Remember what I was like when I was 16? Wasn't pretty.
Sami: Oh, god. That's a good point. At least he's not a felon.
Brady: Yeah. It'll get better.
Sami: I don't know. I moved into that house of horrors to be close to him, and now he resents the hell out of me for it.
Brady: Okay, so here's the question. Why live there?
Kate: Okay, we're alone. What do you want to talk about now?
Madeline: Chad is thinking of staying in Salem to go to college.
Kate: That's my problem how?
Madeline: My problems are now your problems, Kate. I thought you understood that.
Kate: And I thought you understood when my husband told you that things that happened in the past stay there.
Madeline: Chad is asking questions, Kate, because you let your grandson get a hold of an old photograph that should have been destroyed years ago.
Kate: And I told you that was an accident. I don't want our connection publicized any more than you do, but nothing can be done about it now.
Madeline: Oh, yes, something can be done. You can lie, and you can continue to lie. My husband and I have built a name for ourself in this town. Our reputation is impeccable.
Kate: Really? Well, I could quibble about that, couldn't I? But I'm not going to ruin anything for you. No, you're a strong, independent woman, and I think that you could probably handle the issues with your wayward son all by yourself. Or do you need my intervention?
Madeline: You think I want your intervention? The mother of an ex-alcoholic, the ex-addict, the ex-gambler. Who else am I missing? Oh, yes, the granddaughter who killed her own brother?
Kate: Shut up.
Madeline: I still don't understand why Stefano DiMera gave you the time of day, let alone married you.
Kate: You don't know anything about me.
Madeline: Oh, well, I do know one thing--once a whore, always a whore.
Kate: And it would take one to know one, wouldn't it, Maddie?
Madeline: I'm not even gonna dignify that with a response.
Stefano: Tell Mary to burn that jacket.
EJ: Maybe she can shrink it in the laundry or something.
Stefano: Oh. Look, I'm sorry that I lost my patience with Giovanni, but it would have been the same thing as wearing a Red Sox cap into Yankee stadium. You know, I don't know who brainwashed that child into thinking that those agents are admirable people to look up to. Well, that'll be over soon.
EJ: Yes. Of course it will.
Rafe: Anna, if you do not cooperate with me, you are going to prison. I think you just need to ask yourself one little question. What kind of life would Tony want for you? Now, you speak now or forever hold your peace, Anna.
Nicole: You don't look a bit happier. Should we have tried red?
Arianna: Yeah, I don't think wine's gonna do it. No.
Nicole: Yeah, but you didn't drink enough.
Arianna: But you did. You gonna be able to go on the air tonight?
Nicole: Yeah, I've only had a half a bottle. Three quarters. Seven eighths? Whatever. I feel fine.
Arianna: Yep, I can tell.
[Cell phone rings]
Baker: Hi, is this WXIR news?
Arianna: Uh, sort of. Why?
Baker: I've got a tip.
Arianna: Look, I can barely hear you.
Baker: It's a very delicate matter. I can't talk any louder.
Arianna: Okay. Then let me just go somewhere quiet. Hold on.
Nicole: Oh. Exhibit A. Perfecto.
Arianna: Well, that was a real... what are you doing?
Sami: [Sighs] It's just--I don't want Will to think that I'm giving up on him.
Brady: You? He's got to know that you don't give up on anything.
Sami: So has Ari heard from...?
Sami: Her brother?
Brady: Rafe? Uh, no, she hasn't said anything. Why? You don't know where he is?
Sami: Not exactly. I called him to thank him for the gift that he sent Johnny, but...
Brady: All right, well, that means he's thinking about you, right?
Sami: He didn't do it for me. I mean, he couldn't get off the phone with me fast enough.
Sami: It's fine. I just have to figure out how to let it go.
Brady: Yeah, you do.
Sami: It's kind of scary, actually.
Sami: Well, I mean, it's sort of--I don't know, the whole thing. I'm trapped at the mansion now. I mean, I've already made the decision to live there. I can't just pick up my kids and move somewhere else, and keep shipping 'em around all the time. I got to settle down somewhere, and... and now I'm around EJ all the time. It just makes me feel... vulnerable.
Brady: Vulnerable. Um... are you telling me that you still have feelings for that guy?
Stefano: Yes. What? Well, you get back to me as soon as you have any information. Do you understand? Damn it!
EJ: What's wrong?
Stefano: Anna missed her scheduled check-in. Boy, she had better be incapacitated, or she will be soon.
Anna: All right, fine. What do you want to know?
Rafe: Well, all right. Now, when you kidnapped Sydney, obviously you had an accomplice.
Anna: Yes. Benny.
Rafe: Somebody sprung Benny from jail.
Rafe: No. See, you were already ensconced in your picturesque little hideaway here by the time that happened. Somebody was afraid Benny was gonna talk. Afraid much in the same way that you are right now that that person who is running it all is gonna find out that you were talking to me. Now, Anna, all you have to do is answer one little question, and all your problems will be over.
Anna: All right, Rafe. Ask and you shall receive.
Rafe: Well, all right. Who were you working with? Or shall I say, who were you working for?
EJ: Doesn't take a bloody genius to connect the dots!
Brady: What the hell am I supposed to think, Sami?
Rafe: Sami didn't make you take that baby.
