Hope: Perfect.

Philip: 15 minutes, that's it. No, no, I'm gonna get a coffee. And then I'll head over after that. It's just, um... it's my first night away from my wife. I'm not crazy about the idea. Yeah, okay. See you then.

Melanie: [Humming softly] Nathan.

Nathan: Hey.

Melanie: Hi, yeah-- if you're looking for Maggie, she just went to the neighbor's--

Nathan: I'm not looking for Maggie, I'm looking for you.

Melanie: Oh. I was just on my way to work. What's up?

Nathan: We started a conversation yesterday that never got finished, so...

Melanie: Uh, well, I mean, I was busy, you were-- we were busy. We probably... paths just didn't cross.

Nathan: No, they definitely-- they definitely crossed. I saw you at the nurses' station. I went to talk to you, and you made a beeline for the elevator.

Melanie: I probably just had another patient on another floor. What, you don't believe me?

Nathan: I don't believe you. I think you're avoiding me.

[Knock on door]

Justin: Hope? Are you there?

Sami: John? John!

Johnny: No fair!

Sami: Listen to me. Listen to me. No more yelling. No more whining, no more crying. All right? I don't want you to wake up your sister. You know how long it took me to get her to sleep.

Johnny: I want my daddy.

EJ: This house is very quiet without you two. Your grandfather would rather have liked if you came and lived here. Of course, your mother would be appalled by that idea. Still, if I don't persuade her it's in everybody's best interests, your grandfather is gonna tell everybody what a... despicable swine I am. How I kidnapped my own daughter. Put everybody through hell. God knows what else. Well, I'm not gonna let that happen. I just need to persuade your mother that it's in everybody's best interests. Maybe I could tell her the truth. Maybe if I told her that... I've fallen in love with her again.

Yang: Okay, Daniel, you're numb. I'm gonna go prep the laser.

Daniel: All right. Here we go.

Carly: Hey, pretty soon, no more double vision.

Daniel: Yeah, I hope so.

Carly: Did you get in touch with Chloe?

Daniel: No, I just left a message. I think this vision thing's getting to me. I blew up at her today. But after this, I'm gonna make everything right.

Yang: Ready to get started?

Daniel: Oh, yeah. Let's do it. [Exhales]

Chloe: Wait, so Daniel was here.

Greg: Right. But he left.

Chloe: With Dr. Manning? It doesn't make any sense. He said he was gonna be here all night in surgery.

Greg: Well, look, I'm only telling you what I know, okay? Their shifts are over, they're gone. I mean, they're off together, don't you think?

Chloe: Um, did you hear them talking?

Greg: Talking? No. I saw them heading for the elevator.

Chloe: Well, you must've heard something, right? Did they say where they were going?

Greg: Look, Miss Lane--

Chloe: Just tell me, okay? I need to know where they were going. [Sighs]

Sami: Johnny, I have an idea. Hey, listen to me. I have an idea. Hey, I have an idea-- let's call your daddy. Let's call him on the phone, and let's talk to him.

Johnny: [Grunts]

Sami: John, you do not get to do that again. All right, you listen to me. We are not playing this game tonight. You are gonna go to bed. You were just with him last night! Ugh!

Johnny: I want my daddy!

EJ: It's worth a try, isn't it? I mean, it may be the one way-- the only way--to persuade your mother to move in here. Perhaps if she just knew that I loved her.

Sami: Look, EJ, you did it. You finally got rid of him. I'm proud of you.

EJ: Maybe she loves me too. There's only one way to find out.

[Knock on door]

Justin: Hope? Are you there?

Hope: What do you want?

Justin: Um, nothing. I, um, just wanted to see how you're doing. Are you okay?

Sami: Listen to me, it is time for you to go to bed. I will read you one story, but then it is time. You have to go to sleep.

Johnny: No!

Sami: Johnny! Johnny. No, no, no, come back. Oh, ow. Johnny, why are you being like this? We had a great day together. Didn't we have fun? You and me and Sydney and Allie. And we all had--

Johnny: I want my daddy!

Sami: Yes, yes, so you have mentioned. Hold on, hold on! Hey! Come here.

[Johnny giggles]

Sami: Yeah, it's me. I need your help.

[Knock on door]

Johnny: You go get the door.

Sami: Okay, I'll go get the door. Hey, don't you go anywhere. EJ, I really need you to--

EJ: Hi. I'm right here. Where is he?

Philip: Myra, hey, look... I know it's last minute, but I need you to reschedule that meeting. Tell him I'm sick. Tell him I have a fever. Whatever. No, I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm a newlywed... spending the night alone, without my wife. It just doesn't feel right. So I'm going home to be with my wife. [Chuckles]

Melanie: I'm not avoiding you, Nathan. I, um--I was busy. We were busy as, you know-- I didn't even see you at the nursing station, so-- and as far as us continuing our conversation, I don't know what else there is to say. I told you, if you feel uncomfortable with me being at the nursing program, I'm gonna drop out.

Nathan: No, I told you that's not what I want.

Melanie: But if it's-- if it's making it hard for you to focus... you're a doctor, I am a nursing student. I am much more expendable than you are.

Nathan: Stop it. You're not to me.

Melanie: Okay. We should probably talk about this some more, but now is not a good time. Okay?

Nathan: Why? Are we alone? Then I would say it's a really good time.

Melanie: Why is it a really good time?

Nathan: 'Cause we can be honest with each other... about how we feel.

Hope: Justin, I am fine. Please don't worry. It's just been a really long day. I'm just trying to get some rest.

Justin: Okay. I just wanted you to know that I'll be downstairs for a little while working on some paperwork with Victor. So in case you needed me for anything.

Hope: Justin, thank you. Good night.

Justin: Good night, hope. Sleep well.

EJ: Okay...

Sami: Hey, how'd it go?

EJ: Good. Not only was he wound up, he was also completely exhausted. I had a nice little talk with him about future holidays that we'd take--him and the girls. Trips to Europe, trips to Asia, trips to China-- Great Wall of China. We discussed the finer points of engineering of the Great Wall of China, by which point he was completely asleep.

Sami: It doesn't surprise me. You have the magic touch.

EJ: My magic touch being putting people to sleep.

Sami: No, you're just good at putting kids to sleep.

EJ: Ah, yes. My voice is rather well-known for having a soporific quality.

Sami: Is that what it is?

EJ: Oh, I checked on Sydney as well.

Sami: Yeah, it took me forever to get her to sleep.

EJ: Yeah, well, unfortunately she was still awake, standing up in her crib.

Sami: What?

EJ: Yeah. It's fine, it's fine. I took care of it. When I went in there, she was standing up. She was kind of assessing the room. You know, in the very kind of mellow and calm way that she does. And I walked in, and her whole face lit up. It was really sweet, this big smile.

Sami: I better go put her back to sleep.

EJ: She's fine. She's asleep. It's okay. I sang to her, and she fell asleep pretty quickly. Either that or she was just pretending, you know, so I'd shut up.

Sami: [Laughs] Thank you.

EJ: For what?

Sami: Well, for putting my kids to sleep. And, um... for making me laugh. It's been a long time.

EJ: Yeah. Well, good. I'm glad you're laughing. Your eyes light up when you laugh. And you look very beautiful.

Chloe: Okay, it is really important that I speak to Dr. Jonas. It's an important matter, okay? Can't you help me? If you know where they are, you need to tell me.

Greg: All right. All right. Look, I heard some gossip about Dr. Manning and Dr. Jonas. And...

Chloe: And?

Greg: A motel.

Chloe: A motel?

Greg: Seedy, private... the Mercer. Yeah, that was it, the Mercer Motel.

Melanie: Nathan, we are being honest. I have been honest. You said that you felt uncomfortable with me being at the hospital, and I told you I would drop out.

Nathan: No. Look, I told you, Melanie, I'm not gonna let you do it. You know that's not what I mean about being honest.

Melanie: Then what-- what do you mean about being honest?

Nathan: Hey... I think-- I know I still care about you. And I'm pretty damn sure that you still care about me too.

Melanie: Don't tell me how I feel.

Nathan: Fine, I won’t. But will you?

Melanie: Will I what?

Nathan: Tell me how you feel about me. About us.

Sami: I would love to hear about how your night went with the kids, and what kind of crazy things you guys were up to.

EJ: Yeah.

Sami: [Chuckles]

EJ: Um, let's see. Well, after--

Sami: [Giggles]

EJ: Sorry. After you left, I don't know what I did. Oh, I gave 'em a little bit to eat, and then I picked both of them up, and I put them down in the jet, and I took them to Disneyland. We had some ice cream, and we went on all the rides. And then we got back by the morning so you could have them. That's about it, really.

Sami: I should have guessed.

EJ: You impressed by my parenting skills?

Sami: All right, if you don't want to tell me what you guys really did, that's fine.

EJ: Okay, okay, okay. We had a wonderful time. We really did. We watched the Wizard of Oz, and we sang silly songs, and we danced a little bit. And then Johnny and I did a 100-piece jigsaw.

Sami: He's so good at those puzzles.

EJ: Very. Very.

Sami: I wish I could have been there.

EJ: Yeah, you should have been. Actually, something that I was wanting to talk to you about.

Chloe: Um, the Mercer Motel? No, that can't be right.

Greg: You know what, you're probably right. Look, it's late. I've been working all hours. And sometimes I hear things, imagine things. I'm sure wherever they went, if they went anywhere, it wouldn't have been there, to the Mercer.

Chloe: [Sighs] Oh, God, I hope you're right. Thank you.

Vivian: Well... Oscar-winning performance. You're going to be rewarded for your loyalty.

Greg: I feel bad, though. I mean, lying to Chloe like that.

Vivian: Oh, get over it.

Greg: She's such a nice person.

Vivian: Get over it. You can nurse your remorse on the beach in Saint-Tropez. You said you didn't like the job you were doing and you wanted to do other things, didn't you?

Greg: Yeah, absolutely. I wasn't cut out to work with sick people.

Vivian: Yes, well, there you go. No more sick people.

Greg: Uh, wow. Uh, thank you, Miss Alamain.

Vivian: And thank you for a job well done.

Greg: The thing is...

Vivian: What? What?

Greg: I just don't see the point.

Vivian: This is getting very tiresome, Greg.

Greg: But I mean, like, what do you get out of all of this-- convincing Chloe that her fiancé is cheating on her with Dr. Manning?

Vivian: Let me put it this way-- sweeter far than flowing honey.

Greg: What is?

Vivian: Revenge. Which is what I want, and what I'm getting, thanks to you. Very good job. Now, get on your plane and go away and enjoy yourself. Go.

Melanie: Why are you doing this, Nathan? I told you that things have changed, that I'm committed--

Nathan: I know what you said, but I want to know what you feel. Come on, if we don't deal with this, we're gonna continue confusing ourselves or hurting ourselves.

Melanie: Okay. Then if I'm gonna be completely honest... it starts with the letter that I wrote you on my wedding day.

Nathan: The letter I never read? Where you said you just wanted-- you wanted to be friends.

Melanie: That's not what it said.

Nathan: That's not...wait--

Melanie: I know it's what I said--that I said-- but it's not-- I lied to you.

Nathan: What did it say, then, Melanie?

Melanie: It said that I would-- that I would leave Philip for you if you still loved me. I wouldn't marry him... because I wanted to be with you.

Nathan: Wow. I was hoping you-- I'm so glad that you just said that.

Melanie: It doesn't matter 'cause you didn't come! Stephanie told me that you didn't even--

Okay, yep... that was good-bye.

Chloe: Hi.

Clerk: Hello there. How may I help you this evening?

Chloe: Um, I was just wondering if a Carly Manning or a Daniel Jonas had checked in tonight.

Clerk: Sorry, miss. You know, I can't give out that kind of information. Motel policy.

Chloe: Right. Oh, how stupid of me. Hold on. Will you tell me now?

Clerk: No, no one by those names checked in tonight.

Chloe: Are you sure?

Clerk: I'm looking right at the register. Here. There's no Manning, no Jonas.

Chloe: Okay, thank you. Wait, maybe-- could they have checked in under assumed names?

Clerk: It's been known to happen. I got a lot of "Smiths." Quite a few couples checked in this evening.

Chloe: Um, maybe this will help. Did this man check in tonight?

Justin: Hey, Philip. What are you doing here?

Philip: What does it look like I'm doing?

Justin: Shouldn't you be home with your wife?

Sami: Sorry about that. I know you had something you wanted to tell me, but I have something I have to tell you too.

EJ: Um, okay. You go first.

Sami: Lucas called. He wants Allie to stay with him in Hong Kong.

EJ: In Hong Kong? Well, how is she going to get there?

Sami: It's already happening, actually. He flew all the way back so that she wouldn't be scared on the plane ride and so they could have a big adventure together.

EJ: Oh. How long is she gone for?

Sami: A couple weeks. It seems like forever.

EJ: Did you feel that you had to say yes?

Sami: Um, no, no. I mean, Lucas loves his kids, and Will couldn't go, and I know how much he wants to spend some time with Allie this summer while he can. So yeah, he'd flown all this way, and it was hard to say no.

EJ: I understand.

Sami: So that's why I am not my normal, eternally sunny, chipper self.

EJ: Samantha, you're doing great. Must have been painful saying good-bye.

Sami: Yeah. Yeah, it was hard. It was hard for Johnny too. Which is maybe why he was acting up tonight, because I know they're never apart for very long, and he's gonna miss her a lot. And I'm sure he picks up on my tension. I can't help that. And I'm sure he misses Rafe.

EJ: Do you miss Rafe? Is he trying to get back together with you? Is he trying to fix this?

Sami: No. No, he's made it clear that he won't be able to forgive me for lying to him about Sydney’s ransom notes. And, I mean, I lied to you about your child, no less, and you've forgiven me. Why?

EJ: Samantha, I've forgiven you because it doesn't really matter what happens between the two of us. We have children, you know. And that relates to the point that I was making earlier about Rafe. I understand this is painful for you, but you really don't have any collateral damage with him. I'm not saying it's easier, but it's simpler. You know? I mean, with you and I, the needs of our kids supersede the need to hold on to any past resentment. Besides which, it's not like I've always been a complete saint, is it?

Sami: We have certainly done a lot of things to hurt each other. Things I did. Lying to you about my pregnancy. That is why I ended up giving birth in that clinic. That's how I met Dr. Baker. That is why I adopted Grace, and then lying about it to you--

EJ: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Samantha, stop, stop, stop, okay? You can't fix what happened. All right? You can't change it. What happened to grace happened. But we have two wonderful kids, you know. We have Johnny, we have Sydney. And they're healthy.

Sami: We are very lucky to have such wonderful children. But I wish...

EJ: What?

Sami: I wish I could take it back. I wish I had never lied to you about being pregnant.

Hope: Is it on? Good. I'm on my way.

Clerk: I don't know. It's possible this guy is here.

Chloe: Is he with a woman, uh, medium height, brunette, beautiful, pouty lips?

Clerk: Yeah, you know, that sounds about right. One thing I do know, an uptown guy like this brings a lady here for only one reason... and it ain't to play checkers.

Philip: Why am I not with my wife? That's a good question. And here's the answer. Because I'm an idiot.

Justin: You want to tell me what happened?

Philip: I'd rather work on this drink.

Justin: Philip, come on, talk to me. Did you and Melanie have a fight?

Philip: Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no. No, not a fight. It's not that simple, not that easy. With a fight, you make-- get to make up, you know? But this, this is, uh...

Justin: What?

Philip: Everything I believed about my wife, about my marriage...it's a lie.

Justin: So it was not a fight. But obviously something did happen between you and Melanie.

Philip: Oh, not between me and Melanie, no.

Justin: Philip, come on, tell me what went down.

Philip: All you need to know is I'm an idiot, okay?

Justin: All right, I'll back off for now. But can I just make a suggestion?

Philip: Yeah, sure, why not? Go ahead. Go for it.

Justin: It just seems to me that whatever went down between you and Melanie, you shouldn't be here. Okay? You--you're newlyweds. You should be with her trying to fix this. You shouldn't be here drinking, okay? You should be talking to your wife.

Philip: Should I?

Justin: Yes.

Philip: Is that what I should be doing? Is that what you think I should be doing? Is that what you did when you and Adrienne were having trouble? Did you talk to her? How'd that work out for you? Huh?

Melanie: I want you to go.

Nathan: You want me to go? I don't get it. You just told me that you were gonna leave Philip for me.

Melanie: Yeah. Yes, I was.

Nathan: What's changed? Are you afraid of him? You afraid of what he's gonna do if you leave him? 'Cause--

Melanie: No, I'm not afraid of him. And I'm not gonna leave him. Look, yes, I loved you. Yes, I wanted to be with you. Yes, all of that was true, but it is not anymore. We're done, Nathan.

Vivian: Oh! That was the hotel clerk from the Mercer Motel. He told Chloe exactly what I paid him to tell her. Rascally little thing!

Gus: How did Chloe react?

Vivian: Well, our poor little songbird almost passed out when she heard that Daniel and Carly were at the "no-tell motel." Poor thing.

Gus: Why do you relish in that woman's humiliation, Madam? Your animosity's not directed at her.

Vivian: Well, as long as it ricochets back to Carly, I don't care who's humiliated. And when did you become such a bleeding heart?

Gus: It's you I'm worried about, Madam.

Vivian: Me?

Gus: Yes. You may well think this is all fun and games, but I think your plan could backfire. And then you will be the one to suffer.

Vivian: Oh...

Daniel: Chloe?

Carly: Hey, it's me, Carly. But Chloe will be here soon. Okay? I promise.

Melanie: I love you. More than anything. I married the right man. I'll always have feelings for you. I'm just not gonna act on them anymore.

Nathan: You could live that way? Denying what we have?

Melanie: I can. I will. You have to too.

EJ: Samantha, I told you, okay? Look, I've come to understand the choice that you made... keeping your pregnancy from me.

Sami: Now you understand it, when I understand it less than ever? I mean, if-- if I hadn't put everything in motion, if I hadn't lied to you, Nicole would never have been able to manipulate that sister. I would never have ended up giving birth in that sleazy clinic with Dr. Baker.

Baker: Listen to me. Look at me. I want you to get this baby out now.

Sami: Okay, I'll try. Okay.

Baker: Okay, all right. Here we go. You ready?

Sami: Yeah. He would never have been in a position to lie to me-- to switch my baby with Grace. I mean, he was-- he was a doctor! I trusted that guy. I mean, what a slime!

EJ: Calm down. Baker is dead. Samantha, he's dead. Okay? And Sydney is thriving. She's doing wonderfully. So can we--you and me-- can we just please stop thinking about this past? Can we just look to the future? Our future.

Hope: Sorry, boys... straight flush with a 10. That's a really big hand.

Man: It sure is.

[Hope giggles]

Man: You've had a run all night. What'd you do, make a pact with the devil?

Hope: Oh, I just play the odds. Well, better luck next time, gentlemen. I'm calling it a night.

Baker: Not yet you aren’t. You owe me a drink.

Sami: So I forgot, you had something you wanted to tell me too.

EJ: Yes.

Sami: What is it?

EJ: Well, apropos of what we were just talking about-- Johnny and Sydney needing both their parents. We're in agreement on that, right?

Sami: Absolutely.

EJ: You know, Will is-- he's settled in at the mansion.

Sami: Don't remind me.

EJ: Well, Samantha, I think you need to be reminded because... I think it's important that you remember that your children need to be put first. And I have an idea as to how best you and I can do that together.

Vivian: Gus, when did you become such an old crepe hanger?

Gus: I simply fail to see anything good coming of this.

Vivian: Oh, fine. Well, I'll clarify. Do I have your attention?

Gus: I'm listening.

Vivian: Well, you see, now that I'm engaged to Victor, the protective and devoted father of Bo Brady, I can't touch Carly.

Gus: Go on.

Vivian: So in order to not incur the wrath of my fiancé, I have to get that little opera screecher to do my dirty work. So what I'm doing is I'm putting Chloe in the position to take care of my Carly problem. Is that getting through to you? Does that make sense?

Carly: Focus on the tip of my finger.

Daniel: Okay. Okay.

Carly: You only see one, I hope.

Daniel: Just one.

Carly: Oh, good!

Daniel: Yeah.

Carly: It's gonna take a little more time to make sure that the surgery was a complete success, but I'm very optimistic.

Daniel: Yeah. And I thank you again for encouraging me to do it.

Carly: Encouraging you? It's more like I forced you.

Daniel: Uh, yeah--that's probably more accurate, yeah. But anyway, I am extremely, extremely grateful.

Carly: Just stay off the ice, will you, doc? Or get some better shoes with traction. Some cleats, maybe.

Daniel: Definitely, yeah. I'll do that. And now I should get in touch with Chloe. Tell her the good news. Yeah.

Nathan: I had this all planned out in my head. But you saying good-bye was not really part of the picture. But I-- I respect you too much to fight you on this. And what I mean by that is since you've moved on-- uh, you have moved on-- I guess so will I.

Melanie: That's good.

Nathan: Yeah. Yeah, it's the way it's gotta be.

Melanie: So we're done.

Nathan: Well, not really. We've still got to see each other at the hospital, but...

Melanie: We'll be colleagues.

Nathan: And friends.

Melanie: Right. I guess so.

Nathan: All right.

Hope: Sorry you had such a bad night. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, the game comes back to bite you.

Baker: Yeah, well, that's why you've got to buy me that drink. To make up for my bad night.

Hope: Why not? Not like I've got anything better to do.

Sami: Okay, you have some big, bright ideas to how we can put our kids first. Let's hear it.

EJ: Okay, well, what I thought-- what I thought of was, you know, instead of splitting the time with them-- you know, like, your place, my place, your place-- which is confusing for them-- I think you discovered that with Johnny this evening.

Sami: Right.

EJ: Well, what I thought of is this. Why don't all the kids, um-- and you-- come and live with me?

Sami: What?

Melanie: Philip and I are gonna finally be happy.

Sami: And they never will live in that house with your father.
