Melanie: Nathan, come on. You can't do this to yourself. Sometimes doctors have to deal with losing patients.
Nathan: Well, I shouldn't have lost her.
Melanie: Yeah, but it's not your fault. Sometimes we can't control things that happen.
Nathan: Sometimes we can.
Maxine: We just lost Mrs. Martin.
Stephanie: Mrs. Abigail Martin, as in the chair of the fundraising committee?
Lexie: That was a routine appendectomy.
Maxine: She had an undiagnosed heart condition.
Lexie: Oh, God. Who was treating her when she coded?
Maxine: Dr. Horton and Melanie Layton.
Nathan: When it sunk in that she was gone, I looked over at you, and I can see in your eyes that we feel things the same way.
Nathan: Look, before you go, I just have to say...
Melanie: Dr. Carver.
Hank: Ciara's school called. She forgot her lunch.
Hope: Oh, God, not again.
Hank: I could get a patrol car to swing by.
Hope: Oh, that would be fantastic.
Abe: You could what?
Hope: I'll go, Hank. Thanks. He was joking.
Abe: I would hope so.
Hope: You know, ever since this new budget of yours came through, we can't make a move, we can't do an-- sorry, just bad day.
Abe: You know, we can talk politics a little bit later. I have what I think is good news.
Hope: Okay, great, because I could really use some.
Abe: Roman re-interviewed the D.A.
Hope: Really? In that very persuasive Roman way?
Abe: He finally admitted that he didn't hear or see Rafe. He was so sure that it was him that he--
Hope: Are you kidding me? A D.A., an officer of the court, accusing an FBI agent of a crime to exact a little revenge?
Abe: We don't know that.
Hope: You know what, maybe I should, uh...[Laughs] Maybe I should stop by his office, what do you think? And let him know just how many damn man hours--damn it-- we wasted on his lies. I can't--Abe, I am so sorry.
Abe: Uh, look, Hope, let me have a word with you.
Hope: No, listen, I don't have time. I've gotta find this guy before he hits again.
Abe: Actually, Hope, that's what I want to talk to you about.
Rafe: So, I've heard the aria more than once. How your father betrayed you, you'll never forgive him, he should rot in hell.
EJ: Well, time, Rafe, is a wonderful healer.
Rafe: Ah. Yes, well, that would explain the detente if you and your father were human beings, but you're DiMeras.
EJ: Well, we're a very volatile family.
Rafe: Oh, volatile. Well, I just--I have this hard time buying that you and your father were suddenly flooded by family feelings. You'd never let him near your kids... unless...
EJ: Unless what?
Stefano: I, um... uh...
Sami: Is the great Stefano DiMera actually at a loss for words? What? Spit it out.
Stefano: I want to thank you for letting me see my grandchildren.
Sami: Well, no wonder it kind of stuck in your throat a little bit, you know, thanking me.
Stefano: No. It's just that, uh, you did what you thought was best for your children, and I admire that.
Sami: Thanks and admiration? I'm gonna have to update my Facebook status.
Stefano: See, it made me realize something very important. That I think it's time that all this fighting and recriminations should stop. Now that Giovanni and Sydney have brought our families together forever, isn't it time for a truce?
Hope: You're taking me off the case.
Abe: Whoa, slow down, okay?
Hope: Abe, you can’t. Woods sent me off in totally the wrong direction. I spent hours interrogating Rafe.
Abe: I know, I know.
Hope: Okay, so what? What? I mean, I don't have a suspect, so you're taking me off the damn case?
Abe: Hope, I did not say that. You know, the way you're reacting confirms that you're under way too much stress. You have Bo's caseload, you have the overflow from vice.
Hope: Look, I know how much work there is to do. I'm well aware of that, okay?
Abe: Whoever this mugger is works at night. Now, don't you want to be home at night with your daughter?
Hope: You know, come to think of it, is this about Bo? I mean, did he call you? Is that what it is?
Abe: Hope, this is me-- Abe, your friend.
Hope: Okay, sorry. I, um... your timing just couldn't have been worse. Please don't-- don't take me off my job. It's the one thing I have left in my life that is normal.
Adrienne: Wonder why that is, don't you?
Sami: You know, I've often thought of this moment, of us finally being able to let go of the past and move on. The only thing it would take would be... complete amnesia, Stefano. Heavy medication, a severe drop in my I.Q. Maybe a total lack of regard for what's right and wrong.
Sami: I would also need something for the nausea.
Stefano: [Sighs] You could have said a simple no.
Sami: EJ wants our children to spend time with you, but know that I will loathe you with every fiber of my being for the rest of my life.
Stefano: [Chuckles] Once again, a potent Brady cocktail of arrogance and stupidity, Samantha. You have sealed your own fate.
EJ: I'm sorry, unless what, Agent Hernandez?
Rafe: Unless he's got something on you.
EJ: Really? You must come from a very suspicious family, Agent Hernandez, if you assumed the only reason a father would want to allow his sons to spend time with their grandfather was blackmail.
Rafe: Mm. Well, sadly, we don't have time to go through our family differences right now, do we? But I will say this, no one in my family has ever ordered a hit on someone. Of course, we could never afford it, but...
EJ: Quite. Well, as much as I'd love to hear a detailed account of your family's poverty, I'm afraid I have things to do.
Rafe: We do have one thing in common, EJ.
Rafe: Yes. Neither one of us ever gives up. I'm not gonna give up proving that you've been feeding Sami lie upon lie upon lie.
EJ: Well, good luck.
Rafe: And I am gonna find out what your father has on you, and then I'm gonna put you away for good.
Lexie: I'm not happy about having to do this, but I have to ask some blunt questions.
Melanie: Right now? Because Nathan’s--
Lexie: Melanie, there's going to be an inquiry. That's standard procedure. I have an intern, a nursing student, who only just came back to the program, assisting him, and they have a pretty interesting history together.
Nathan: Dr. Carver, look, I understand, but you need to understand that Melanie only followed my orders, all right? She had nothing to do with what happened.
Lexie: Well, that's very noble of you. The question stands--were you focused on the patient or on each other?
Melanie: We were focused on the patient, nothing else.
Stephanie: I'm sorry. Mrs. Martin's daughter's here. She doesn't know what happened.
Lexie: I'll be right there.
Nathan: No, all right. She's my patient. It's my job. I'll go.
Stephanie: I know Tracy. I'll go with you.
Nathan: Thank you.
Melanie: I know you don't want me here.
Lexie: Did I ever say that?
Melanie: No, you didn't have to. I saw the weird look you gave me when you found out I was coming back to the hospital.
Lexie: Look, my concern isn't about you. It's about your interaction with Dr. Horton and how it might be affecting his job.
Melanie: It's not affecting his job. He didn't do anything wrong. Just please believe me.
Abe: Well, I'm gonna get back to the office. Oh, Adrienne, how's Justin doing?
Hope: Actually, I just spoke to him. A slight headache, but he's doing much better.
Abe: Well, that's good to know. You two play nice, okay?
Adrienne: It is good to know. Um, tell me, do you check up on Justin because it's part of your police follow-up?
Hope: Adrienne, what, am I supposed to apologize for worrying about a friend who was just mugged?
Adrienne: Hope, you told me earlier today that you thought it was a mistake for me to come back to Salem. Not that you tricking me into coming back was a mistake, but that my actual being here was a mistake.
Hope: Because things didn't work out between you and Justin.
Adrienne: Yes. Yes, I've noticed how they haven't worked out. What I don't get is why you felt the need to point that out to me.
Hope: [Sighs] You're reading way too much into this.
Adrienne: No, no, no, see, I don't think so. I don’t. I think you want me gone.
EJ: Let me ask you something. Do you ever stop to think about the fact that the constant hounding of my family might actually be bad for Samantha?
Rafe: That's good, EJ. You want me to back off from nailing you out of your concern for Samantha. [Chuckles] Do you not realize that you have basically made her life a living hell?
EJ: You think you know me, don't you?
Rafe: Through and through.
EJ: I know you, Agent Hernandez. I know you hate to be wrong, but lord knows you should be getting used to that by now. I know you hate the fact that Samantha is getting her life back together, so much so that you seem to question every single thing that she does, when all that she's really trying to do is provide a family for her children.
Rafe: You're right. I do question you. I question everything you do, every move you make, and your reasons for making them. And you know what? I don't know what you're up to, but I will find out, and you will never hurt Sami again.
Sami: Wow, you are really unbelievable. That's a truce to a threat in 30 seconds flat. You know what? My family has a mantra about you that you'll never change.
Stefano: You know, it's hard for me to ever believe that you are Marlena's child.
Sami: Don't even go there.
Stefano: You know, how she could give birth to something like you. Well, I am gonna make sure that Giovanni and Sydney don't turn out anything like you.
Sami: Oh, really? Well, you know what? Visitations are officially off. I'm not letting you near my children.
Stefano: I just cannot understand how a son of mine could possibly-- agh!
Sami: Possibly what? EJ could possibly what?
Nathan: I should have put in an order for more tests.
Nathan: She shouldn't have died.
Stephanie: Even if you caught the heart problem, there was nothing you could do to treat it. She had to have that appendectomy. Look, I saw my mom lose patients, and good doctors take it hard. You're a really, really good doctor.
Hope: So, um... how long was it between the time Justin left the bar and you found him outside unconscious?
Adrienne: Five or ten minutes. We were closing up, I heard a noise, I went out and found him.
Hope: And until then, you were alone inside?
Adrienne: I didn't realize I needed an alibi.
Hope: If the lights were on when Justin left, then it was pretty risky to attack him right outside of the bar. You said he didn't even make it to his car, right?
Hope: The attack on the D.A. was pretty risky as well.
Adrienne: You think it was the same guy? That Justin wasn't just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Hope: Do you think he was targeted?
Adrienne: Could be someone who hates lawyers. Course, that's just about everyone.
Hope: We're almost done here. Um, so how long were the two of you at the bar for?
Adrienne: A couple of hours maybe.
Hope: That long?
Adrienne: We had some unfinished business to discuss before I left town.
Justin: But you're still here. Why is that?
EJ: Rafe...ahem. I understand that it must be very difficult to admit defeat. I mean, on a personal level, you lost Samantha. And on a professional level, your investigation of Sydney’s disappearance was ineffective. Frankly, you were an impediment in many ways. You lost.
Rafe: You know, EJ, Anna getting out of town made sense. She had to have had an exit strategy all along, but the Benny guy, not so much. Low rent, not a very imaginative thinker, and then suddenly he finds himself in this major, major legal jam, but he's able to get out of it. Somebody helped him.
EJ: Hmm, really? Well, that is an interesting, uh, conjecture.
Rafe: Yeah. So my thought is there's another conspirator out there somewhere. I gotta tell you, that little thought, it's, uh... it's keeping me up at night.
Sami: Wow, Stefano. You are really losing it. Not only did you almost just let something slip, you let me know that you did.
Stefano: I was trying to be polite.
Sami: [Laughs] Oh, sure.
Stefano: I was trying to keep myself from saying that I do not understand how a son of mine could possibly want to have children with someone like you.
Sami: Well, that just settles it for me. That's it, Stefano. I'm cutting off visitation. You are never gonna see Johnny or Sydney again.
Stefano: Just do not threaten me, all right? Because if she finds out the truth, you won't have a choice.
EJ: Okay, well, you don't fix it so she finds out the truth, okay? Because if you do, you'll never see your grandchildren, ever.
Stefano: Samantha... wait.
Hope: Well, listen, I need to get home to my beautiful daughter. Adrienne, thank you so much for your help.
Adrienne: Don't you need me to sign something?
Hope: No, not a thing. Uh, Justin, I hope your head feels better.
Justin: Is it just me...
Adrienne: Or does she seem really, really stressed out?
Justin: Well, she has...
Adrienne: I know, I know. Been through so much.
Justin: Um, sorry. I should know better than to expect you to have any sympathy for her. See ya... or not.
Adrienne: I-- I'm sorry. I am.
Justin: It's okay. No problem.
Adrienne: Actually, there is. Um, is there someplace that you and I could talk? Really talk?
Sami: Are you scared?
Stefano: Scared? No. I'm, uh, ahem. I'm sorry.
Stefano: Look, we all know, I... I have a temper, all right? And--and--and I say things. But I was sincere when I said to you that I think that we should get along.
Sami: Right, you just don't actually have the ability to follow through on that.
Stefano: Fine, look, you don't want to have any forgiveness for the past, that is your decision.
Sami: Thanks. Thanks for that concession.
Stefano: But it does not have to be war, Samantha, all right? What I am trying to say here is this--since we cannot have a truce, the least we can do is have a little civility, huh? For Giovanni, for little Sydney. Also Elvis.
Sami: Right, Elvis, the man you can't understand how he could possibly have children with someone like me.
Stefano: All right, look, I was angry, and I lashed out. Who knows how much time we have left in this life?
Sami: What do you mean? You're the phoenix. I thought you were gonna live forever.
Stefano: I want to spend time with my family.
Sami: I don't know what's really going on between you and EJ, but from where I sit, you have blown it big-time with him. And he is just making an effort to be civil, as you said. But I don't have to do that, because, thank God, you are not my father. So I'm gonna go, I'm gonna take my children with me, and we are never coming back.
Stefano: You can take Giovanni and Sydney.
Sami: Right, I know.
Stefano: But you will have to bring them back here eventually just to see their brother, William, because, Samantha, as you know, he lives here now in this house.
Rafe: You see, EJ, the thing with kidnappings is, it takes more than one person. Team effort.
[Cell phone ringing]
Rafe: Sorry, I gotta take this.
EJ: You go ahead. I should probably be getting going anyway.
Rafe: Hernandez. You got her? That is good work. They got Anna. She's in Morocco. Or did you already know that?
Nathan: Dr. Carver, you got a minute?
Nathan: Preliminary exam came down on Mrs. Martin. They say viral myocarditis was the cause of death.
Lexie: I know.
Nathan: There's gonna be a mortality and morbidity conference, right?
Lexie: It's standard procedure, Nathan.
Nathan: I know. I want to be there.
Hope: Hey, sweetie, there you are, my beautiful girl. I was just coming to look for you. Oh, damn it.
Ciara: Mommy, that's a bad word.
Hope: I know, puppy. I'm so sorry. I... I'm sorry that I'm late. Did you get something to eat?
Delia: It's okay. I ran it over.
Hope: Oh, Delia, thank you so much. You're a lifesaver. Honey, I really am. I'm so sorry that I'm late.
Delia: We were just about to go upstairs for a bath and P.J.’s.
Hope: Hey, uh, how about let me do that? What do you say? That way we can talk while you soak, and then off to bed. I'll read you a book, your favorite one, okay? Then you go to sleep, Mommy goes to sleep, 'cause I am so wiped out. Delia, thank you so much. Good night.
Delia: Good night.
Hope: Come on, I'll race you! Let's go! Quick, quick, quick, quick!
Adrienne: Here you go. On the house.
Adrienne: Won't be able to say that much longer. Have a buyer.
Justin: In this economy?
Adrienne: People drink in bad economy.
Justin: Yeah. So what's bothering you?
Adrienne: It's silly. It's sentimental really. The guy said he wants to change the name of the bar. Says he wants, um, his place to be eponymous.
Justin: That would be a huge mistake.
Justin: I mean, half of what he's buying here is the reputation, history. Is that what you brought me here to talk about?
Adrienne: No, I'm just making small talk, avoiding what I think I should be talking about. You know how angry I was with Hope for tricking me into coming back to Salem?
Justin: I was, too, Adrienne. Look, I had nothing to do with that.
Adrienne: I know. I know you didn't want me here. You've always hated ‘Three's Company.’
Justin: [Sighs] Adrienne, we were divorced before I even thought about Hope.
Adrienne: Justin, believe me, believe me, I didn't bring you over here so we could go through that again.
Justin: Then why did you?
Adrienne: What I wanted to say was, as angry as I was about being tricked into coming back, I'm now actually glad I came.
Adrienne: It's help me to understand something. Something about you and me.
Sami: Thank you, Mary. This'll just take me a second. I have to find that penguin.
Stefano: [Tapping on desk] I could have watched them, you know?
Sami: Oh, right, give you the chance to hop in the car and drive off with them?
Stefano: Oh, please.
Sami: You'd probably take them back to Nicole, wouldn't you? 'Cause I know you liked that last time. Where is the stupid penguin? Are you sure Johnny didn't have it with him upstairs?
Stefano: No, I am not.
Sami: You have stashed it, haven't you? It's just like you. You kidnapped my son's penguin so you could use it as leverage.
Stefano: You know, you're crazier than ever?
Sami: I don't think so. I think I'm seeing things very clearly. Like, for example, I think that it's very clear, I can change Sydney’s custody arrangement. Johnny's, too.
Stefano: Please, huh?
Sami: I think EJ would back me up. You want to take that bet?
Kate: Mary asked me to tell you that the penguin is in the diaper bag, whatever the hell that means.
Sami: Oh, thank God. It means I can get the hell out of this place...permanently.
Kate: I loathe that woman.
Stefano: I can't even put into words what I feel. Oh, Katherine, I have a very serious problem.
Kate: With her? Should I start baking some brownies?
Adrienne: When I found you out there, and I couldn't get you to wake up, it was awful.
Adrienne: It hurt me more than it hurt you. But it got me to thinking. It got me to thinking about you and me and the way I grew up by... I think the clinical term is I was a mess.
Justin: Adrienne, you were-- you'd gone through a lot, I mean...
Adrienne: You were a rock. You were my rock, and I think the whole time that we were together, there were two things going on. I think the fact that I leaned on you so much covered up the fact that I loved you so much.
Justin: I knew you did, but I didn't mind being leaned on.
Adrienne: It gets old. And that's the other thing I realized about coming back. I don't need to lean on you anymore, and I probably didn't need to lean on you even when I did. And maybe because of all that bad stuff in my past, you could never really lean on me.
Sami: Oh, hi.
Rafe: Hi. Will you give this to the watch commander for me?
Rafe: Thanks. Well, it's funny seeing you here. I was just about to call you.
Sami: I had to bring my kids, 'cause Allie has to say good-bye to my Dad-- you were gonna call me? Why? You're pissed at me.
Rafe: That report? We've got Anna DiMera in custody. We're finally gonna know exactly what happened.
Kate: You're serious? EJ said he had feelings for Sami?
Stefano: I--I just--I hate that euphemism. I can't even--I can't even say the word.
Kate: EJ said that he loves her?
Stefano: It was a horrible moment.
Kate: Oh! You know, I really don't get that. I really don't understand it. It's like one of those whistles that only dogs can hear. She must give off something that just enchants men.
Stefano: Katherine, it is a mess. I mean, my relationship with Elvis is really very fragile. And he wants me to keep quiet about his stupid feelings. On top of which he wants me to show them respect.
Kate: Ooh, the gorge rises.
Stefano: I know. I think it must be some kind of post-traumatic nerve thing. I don't--I don't understand. I mean, after what Nicole has done to him, perhaps there's something inside him that's just--just--I don't know--off.
Kate: And then they all spawn with her as well, and we're left to create a family for all the little ones.
Stefano: Katherine, you know, I--I don't want to lose Elvis, which means that I have to try somehow to get along with that...[Groans]
Kate: Caro, caro, I know sometimes it's a curse to be so devoted to your family.
EJ: Kate, I need to speak with my father alone.
Kate: Oh, is that your lovely way of asking me to leave? I feel the sudden urge to bake.
EJ: Thank you.
Kate: Oh, yes, yes.
Stefano: Listen, Elvis, if-- if Samantha was complaining about--
EJ: This is about Anna. Anna. They found her. She's in custody.
Nathan: There you go.
Nathan: Mm-hmm. So I'm gonna be speaking to the mortality and morbidity panel.
Melanie: Dr. Carver's making you go?
Nathan: No, I asked to. Yeah. My family's got quite the history here, and I can't let anyone think that I'm getting special treatment.
Melanie: Guess not.
Nathan: And besides, I want to know what happened. I want to know what I did wrong.
Melanie: What if you didn't do anything wrong? What if this is just a part of being a doctor?
Nathan: Melanie, when we walked into that room, we were not talking about that patient, we were not talking about medicine. We were talking about us. And if I'm gonna be honest with myself, I have to say that I was thinking about you when I walked in that room, not my patient. I'm not saying it's your fault.
Melanie: No, maybe it is. I mean, maybe if I'd thought about how hard this was gonna be, I wouldn't have come back.
Adrienne: Those months we were separated, um, I got really good at figuring out all the things that you did wrong. No, in detail. I think, in reality, it was a lot more fun than facing my own mistakes.
Justin: Adrienne, I don't know if we should--
Adrienne: No, Justin, no worries. I'm not looking for a do-over here. I just wanted the chance... to say I'm sorry.
Justin: I'm sorry, too.
Adrienne: So I guess there's nothing really left to do except find a way to move forward... whatever the hell that means.
Sami: So, what, she came back to Salem?
Rafe: No. Found her in Morocco. We're working on the extradition process right now.
Sami: You, uh, never stopped looking for her.
Rafe: No, of course not. She's a fugitive from justice, not to mention the key to finding out what really happened.
Sami: So you don't want to have anything to do with me or my life, but you're not gonna stop until you solve this case.
Rafe: [Laughs] They're two different things, Sami.
Rafe: Talk to EJ?
Rafe: I'm just surprised he didn't say anything to you about Anna.
Rafe: Well, he was there when I got the word. Well, you should have seen the look on his face when he got that little bit of news.
Stefano: [Groans] Elvis, you have got to calm down.
EJ: Don't tell me to calm down, okay? They have Anna, all right? She's gonna try to cover her own ass, which means she's gonna tell them everything exactly the same way she told you. I'm gonna lose my children, I'm gonna lose Samantha. [Sighs]
Nathan: I also don't think it's right for you to quit the program because of me.
Melanie: You just said... incoming, 12:00.
Nathan: We need to talk about this. I'm gonna call you.
Melanie: Hi, Stephanie.
Melanie: You should go home. It's been a long day. I gotta get back to my husband.
Hope: Ciara? What are you doing up?
Ciara: I was scared.
Hope: You were scared?
Ciara: Where did you go?
Hope: I forgot my cell phone. I had to go pick it up. There's no reason to be scared.
Ciara: I'm not only scared. I miss Daddy.
Hope: I know, honey.
Ciara: And I miss Uncle Justin, too.
Hope: Well... maybe we can solve both of those problems.
Ciara: How, Mommy?
Hope: Maybe someday, Uncle Justin can be your new daddy.
Stefano: Elvis, listen to me. That woman that they arrested was not Anna.
EJ: Who was it?
Stefano: Now, we don't want our friend, Agent Hernandez, to ever find her, now, do we, hmm? So I let him and his little agents go on a merry chase, huh? To give the real Anna much more time to go deeper undercover.
EJ: You did that?
Stefano: Course, I did. You didn't think I was gonna let anything happen to you, do you?
EJ: Thank you.
Stefano: Ah. [Sighs] I have only one regret. That I am not gonna be there to watch Hernandez when he gets that call. [Chuckles]
Rafe: EJ seems to want to find Anna DiMera, but, uh, I found her first, and in 24 hours, I will be face to face with her, and I'm gonna find out exactly what happened.
[Cell phone ringing]
Sami: You gonna get that?
Rafe: Yes. Hernandez. What? Are you sure? Okay. Damn it.
Sami: What? What happened?
Rafe: Damn it. It wasn't her.
Sami: Oh, god, Rafe, I'm sorry.
Rafe: It was a set-up. It was a set-up.
Sami: No, you don't know that.
Rafe: No, I do know that, Sami! That's exactly what it was. They're not gonna stop me. They're not gonna stop me!
Lexie: Abe's going to kill me. Come on, Abe, pick up. Come on.
[Cell phone ringing]
Lexie: Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Abe!
Vivian: I don't think it'll take much to push her over the edge, do you?
Nicole: I'm just saying, watch your back.
Carly: I'm more than a good friend. We both know that.Back to The TV MegaSite's Days of Our Lives Site
