Vivian: There's no stopping you, is there, Carly? First Lawrence, then Melanie, then Daniel. I wonder whose life you're going to take next. I just wonder.
Adrienne: So this woman that Nathan was hung up on, she's out of his system, right?
Stephanie: Yeah. Totally.
Adrienne: Is there something else? Another problem maybe?
Adrienne: I'm sorry, sweetie. If you don't want to talk about it, we don't have to.
Stephanie: No, no, I would. It's just... I'm just a little ashamed. I did something I'm not very proud of.
Adrienne: Honey. You've always been so hard on yourself. Since you were a little girl. Come on. Whatever it is you did, it couldn't have been that bad.
Stephanie: Actually, it was.
Nathan: Hey, what's wrong?
Melanie: Um, I was just on the phone with Danielís doctor.
Nathan: Oh, that's right. He fell in front of the pub. He was admitted?
Melanie: Yeah, and it's affecting his vision. There's, um, there's, like, pressure on his brain, and he's seeing everything in double, and the doctor said that it might be forever and that he's not gonna get any... honey.
EJ: Hey, Benny. Mind if I come in?
Benny: Sure, Mr. DiMera.
Benny: I, uh, wasn't expecting to see you here. At least not so soon. How are you doing?
EJ: I'm gonna get to the point. [Clears throat] You read the newspaper, so I'm assuming you know about my ex-wife.
Benny: Right, right, right. Yeah, she got out of prison. It's kind of weird.
EJ: Yeah, it's kind of weird. She made some kind of agreement with Anna. Anna got the governor to give Nicole a pardon.
Benny: Really, Anna did that?
EJ: So now Nicole is running around town looking to cause trouble.
Benny: Wow. But you don't think Anna told her... I mean, your ex doesn't know that you've been paying Anna and me to watch the little baby, right? Right?
Rafe: You knew damn well that Anna was the kidnapper. How long did you know, Nicole? From the start? Did you know when you were being sentenced for the kidnapping? Did you?
Nicole: Are you done?
Rafe: You can be charged, Nicole.
Nicole: I was pardoned. Remember?
Rafe: Yeah, for the kidnapping, not for obstructing a federal investigation. As you know, we're still trying to find the kidnapper, and, well, you are good, I'll give you that, but I doubt even you could come up with a second pardon out of thin air.
Nicole: All right. All right, you know what, since you won't quit, I'll tell you. Why not? I'll tell you everything. Anna DiMera and I were partners.
EJ: So Anna told me that she was gonna cover her tracks. Apparently she did. But now my ex-wife is free, and she and Anna, they seem to have this kind of connection. So you see, Benny, I have to be very careful because I can't have any of this coming back on me.
Benny: Mr. D, you can count on me, okay? Please don't worry.
EJ: Yeah. Kind of the reason I'm here, Benny. I mean, lately it just seems you've become somewhat of a... a liability.
Benny: Mr. D, I've always been loyal, okay? Please. I would never give you up. You have to understand this, sir, please.
Rafe: So you and Anna were partners.
Nicole: Oh, yeah. We were quite the little team.
Rafe: Is that right?
Rafe: So you were working together when Sydney was kidnapped?
Nicole: I bet that's what you'd like to believe, isn't it? I mean, as long as I come up guilty, you're buying it. No, Rafe. The truth is Anna and I were sisters-in-law in a--in a horrible, horrible family. We suffered together. That's what made us partners.
Rafe: Oh, right. You were--you were sisters. So Anna felt sorry for you being locked up, so she called the governor and had you pardoned.
Nicole: Very good. Looks like you're figuring it out. Now may I go?
Rafe: No. No, you're not going anywhere till you give me an honest answer, Nicole.
Nicole: I'm afraid I can't help you, okay? So if you'll excuse me...
Rafe: Sit down. You sit down, or I'm gonna handcuff you to this damn table till you give me the truth.
Carly: Some of us actually work, Vivian. And that's exactly what I'm doing, so get out.
Vivian: [Chuckling] Really, Carly, causing an accident of such magnitude and threatening the life of someone who it seems would be very important in your life.
Carly: Daniel is going to be fine. Now get out of here.
Vivian: From what I understand, he's going to have to say good-bye to his entire medical career. All because of you. Another reason for Melanie to hate you.
Justin: Vivian, you were told to get out. Now do it.
Philip: It's okay. It's okay. I heard about Daniel. But he's gonna get through this, and so are you. Hey, Nathan, I got this covered, man. You can head home, okay?
Nathan: Right. [Clears throat] Hey. It's gonna be okay, all right? I'm gonna go check on your dad.
Melanie: Thank you.
Philip: Are you all right?
Melanie: [Sighs] I am now. Nathan was just being nice.
Melanie: You're not jealous, are you?
Philip: I don't know. Should I be?
Stephanie: Don't you see? I wouldn't have done anything if that stupid little twit hadn't given me this love letter to give to Nathan, her ex-boyfriend.
Adrienne: On the day she was gonna get married.
Stephanie: To the guy I used to be engaged to. Can you believe it? So I said, "yeah." I mean, what else was I gonna say? And then...
Adrienne: And then?
Stephanie: I read the letter. And I decided that there was no possible way I could give it to Nathan. Look, I know--I know I was wrong. If I had show Nathan the letter, I mean, it said things like, "If you love me, write me back." What am I supposed to do with that? All of this on Melanieís wedding day.
Adrienne: So if Nathan had been allowed to read the letter, your fear is that he would have done something to stop the ceremony.
Stephanie: And that would have been wrong in so many ways. Aunt Adrienne, just tell me that you understand. And that you're not disappointed in me.
Adrienne: Sorry, baby, I can't do that.
Benny: Mr. D, my word is good, I swear it is. Please.
EJ: Yeah, I know it is. But as much as I'd love to have you around for future assignments, you need to make yourself scarce.
Benny: You want me to leave?
Benny: Right, well, that's no problem.
EJ: Good. Leave. L.A. New York. Europe. Europe's lovely this time of year. Go to Europe. Okay? But don't come back to Salem. Don't ever come back to Salem.
Benny: You got it, Mr. D.
EJ: Okay. Now you leave today. You leave this hour. Because I can't have anybody connecting these dots. Things are getting very--very dicey, Benny. You understand me? Good.
Nicole: Wow. What's next, agent Hernandez? Hmm? Water-boarding or just a good beating down in some basement room?
Rafe: You'd like that, wouldn't you?
Rafe: Well, I don't know, Nicole. Depends when you start telling me the truth.
Nicole: I have. You just don't want to believe me.
Rafe: Is that right? So I'm supposed to believe that your dear friend Anna felt sorry for you 'cause you were locked up, so she got the governor to give you a pardon?
Nicole: Rafe, I only have your word that it was Anna who convinced the governor to pardon me. But if you say she did, that's very sweet.
Rafe: Yeah, the trouble with that is that version doesn't fly, Nicole.
Nicole: It's not a version.
Rafe: Yeah, sure it is. Big, innocent eyes--all smoke. My version's a hell of a lot closer to the truth.
Nicole: Oh, gosh, do tell.
Rafe: Well, you started remembering bits and pieces of information around December. But you never could put a face to the voice. Till one day, bingo. You're sitting in your cell. You remember that it was Anna DiMera that smashed you over the head and took Sydney. So you call her and give her an ultimatum. Either she gets you out, or you rat her out. Well, I'm sure she argued and tried to fight, but then you convinced her. Then some time went by, though, and nothing happened. When you'd all but given up hope, you decided to call me. You were gonna give me Anna on a silver platter. Then, lo and behold, the governor called and granted you a pardon. The rest is history.
Nicole: Wow. That actually sounds logical. Now normally, Rafe, you're a very smart person. But not today. Today you're dumb. And dead wrong.
Adrienne: Stephanie, I just think that once you gave that girl your word to give Nathan the letter, that...
Stephanie: I know. I know. Should have given Nathan that stupid letter. Instead, I made a decision, a selfish one, that was only best for me. What was I supposed to do? Here Melanie is, marrying my ex-fiancť, and she's still hung up on Nathan.
Adrienne: Not a very classy move, I agree.
Stephanie: No, Melanie is anything but classy, and that is why I decided not to show Nathan that letter. But...
Stephanie: Nathan found out about the letter.
Adrienne: Does he know what's in it?
Stephanie: No. And that he can never find out.
Melanie: I wrote to you on my wedding day. I wanted to say I'm sorry for all the problems that I've caused us, you, and, you know, say good-bye.
Nathan: Why the hell can't I get her out of my head?
Melanie: No. No, no, you don't need to be jealous. I was just--I was on the phone with Dr. Williams, and he showed up.
Philip: Oh, your dad's doctor?
Melanie: Yeah. He's seeing double. Daniel is. They donít... they don't know if he's gonna get better.
Philip: They can't do anything for him?
Melanie: I don't know. I mean, maybe they can, but... I was--I was just kind of losing it, and Nathan showed up, but it doesn't matter because then you showed up, and you're the one that I want to be with. Okay, you're the one I married, right?
Nicole: Look, Anna and I had a bond. We were both married to DiMera men.
Rafe: Please. Sami told me you hated each other.
Nicole: How would she know? She never saw us together.
Rafe: You were never together.
Nicole: All right, look. [Sighs] I was relatively new into the household when Tony died. And Anna and I didn't spend a lot of time together, but we still had a connection.
Rafe: A connection?
Nicole: Yes. We got along, Rafe. We had empathy for each other. And if Anna took Sydney, like everyone says she did, but nobody is proving, then I'm sure she felt sorry that her sister-in-law was in prison for something she had done. And she probably felt guilty.
Rafe: So she took pity on you and granted you a pardon.
Nicole: That's all I can figure.
Rafe: Well, figure this, Nicole. The real deal is that she got you out so that you would keep your mouth shut. But it doesn't matter anymore. Because we all know that it's Anna who kidnapped Sydney, and you've got your pardon, so why don't you just tell the truth for once in your life and tell me where Anna is?
Justin: As I recall, Vivian, there's a restraining order out on you, and you're not allowed within 50 yards of Carly.
Vivian: Oh, darling, I had my attorneys revoke that minor legality months ago. Now I have wonderful news. Who wants to hear it?
Carly: Not me.
Vivian: Well, I'm telling you anyway. I am putting down roots. Rich, powerful roots, I might add.
Nicole: The truth is, I don't care about Anna. Not my concern. All I care about is that I'm free.
Rafe: So you after Sydney again, in which case, you're gonna wind up right back in jail.
Nicole: Sydney is not my baby. She belongs with EJ and Sami.
Rafe: Don't forget it.
Nicole: I wonít. But I feel very sorry for you.
Rafe: Why is that?
Nicole: You worked your butt off to rescue Sydney, except you didnít. And then you worked your butt off to catch the kidnapper, except you didnít. No wonder Sami decided to lie to you. You weren't useful to her anymore. Now if we're done...
Rafe: Get out.
Nicole: Always a pleasure.
Rafe: One last question, Nicole. Why come back to Salem? Why come back to a place where everyone hates you?
Nicole: Oh, Rafe, I mean, that's simple and obvious. I came back to take what's mine, what's always been mine. By the way, tell your sister hi.
EJ: Benny, where are you?
Benny: At the airport, sir. Plane leaves in an hour.
EJ: Good. I want you to remember what I said earlier. I want you to disappear, okay? You never contact me. Never want to hear from you again.
Benny: You got it, sir.
EJ: Good. You--you do understand the consequences if you disobey me?
Benny: Not to worry, Mr. D. This is the last conversation we're gonna have.
EJ: Excellent. Have a good flight.
Benny: Vodka. Neat. EJ who?
Rafe: [Sighs] One liar. One off the map. Now what? Conway, you ever get that information about those stores near where the cottage where Sydney was held? The ones with the baby supplies?
Conway: Everything's in this folder. The repeat customers are on top.
Rafe: Is that right?
Rafe: Well, thanks for telling me. Okay, something tells me we're not gonna get lucky here and find any pictures of Anna DiMera. Let's see what we've got. Dads, moms, Grandpa, Grand-- except this guy. Any reason a guy takes a gun with him to buy diapers? Please tell me this guy's not an off-duty detective.
Conway: No. That guy stood out, so Commander Brady had him run through facial recognition. We just got these results.
Rafe: Give it to me. Benjamin Lewis Gorman. A.K.A. Benny the Man? A.K.A. Benny Buttons. Multiple priors. Five to ten at Statesville. Can you run an APB on this guy for me?
Conway: Absolutely. Commander Brady said anything you need.
Rafe: All right, well, thanks a lot. Listen, also check all the usual spots--airports, bus, train stations. Do me a favor. Fax this mug shot to the local hotels. See if he's staying there with anyone, okay? And if they do find him, if someone sees him, don't do a damn thing. Just keep him in sight, okay?
Rafe: Benny Buttons, huh? Maybe I don't need Nicole after all. Maybe you can be my ticket.
Nicole: Miss me? [Laughs] Oh, yeah, I thought so. Oh, and I miss you too. My entire world is empty without you, toots.
Justin: You know, Vivian, you'd communicate better with people if you didn't always speak in tongues. What does putting down rich and powerful roots mean?
Vivian: Well, I thought that'd be rather obvious, especially to someone like you, Justin. Victor and I are getting married. Yes. Just wonderful, isn't it? Joy, celebration, I'll become a member of the family... and, well, congratulations to me.
Justin: Why in the hell would Victor want to be connected to that old crone?
Adrienne: Okay. You got away with keeping the letter away from Nathan, but what if all you did was delay the inevitable? What if Nathan still has feelings for Melanie?
Stephanie: No. No, Nathanís a smart guy. He's practical, and he knows it's over. Melanie's married.
Adrienne: Maybe so, but feelings have a way of coming back, sweetheart. Whether you want them to or not.
Melanie: Maybe I should go back to the hospital and check on Daniel.
Philip: If that's what you want to do, yeah.
Melanie: So is that how it's gonna be, huh? I just get whatever I want?
Philip: Of course. I love you. You're my wife.
Melanie: Yes, I am, now and forever. You know what, maybe we should just go back to Maggieís and get under the covers.
Vivian: Children. I have wonderful news.
Benny: Let's go again, huh? And dump this one. There's a weird thingy in it. See?
Man: Yeah. No problem. Vodka neat?
Rafe: [Sighs] A beer, please?
Man: You got it.
Benny: Hey, put this gentleman's beer on me.
Rafe: Hey, thanks a lot, man. Thanks. So you hit the mother lode there, huh?
Benny: Yeah. Something like that.
Rafe: [Exclaims] Thanks.
Benny: Keep it.
Man: Thank you very much.
Rafe: [Sighs] I tell you, I wish I'd come a pile of cash like that. I'd hire a P.I. to find this lady friend of mine.
Benny: She lost?
Benny: That's too bad.
Rafe: Yeah. She had some trouble. She just took off.
Benny: Tough break. Really miss her, huh?
Rafe: Oh, man. Tell you what... I want her back so bad I can taste it. She had the prettiest name too.
Benny: Yeah, I like those ladies with the pretty names.
Benny: Lolita. Doreen. Margarita.
Rafe: Margarita. [Laughter] That's good.
Benny: What was your lady's name?
Rafe: Anna. Anna DiMera.
Nicole: Well, aren't you even gonna say hi? Or better yet, congratulations? Free at last. And you want to know what the kicker is? Hmm? Oh, come on, EJ, step it up a notch. This is the fun part. Not only was I pardoned, but my record was expunged. Yep. I'm cleaner than clean. In fact, I could join the police force.
EJ: What the hell are you doing here?
Nicole: I was feeling a little parched.
EJ: No, I mean what the hell are you doing in Salem?
Nicole: It's my home.
EJ: Well, judging by what somebody did to your face, not everybody thinks so. You're not welcome here.
Nicole: Yeah, well, maybe not in your creepy, depressing mansion, but this lovely little burrow is where I'm planning on making my very clean, very fresh start.
EJ: [Laughs] Yeah. Bollocks, my dear. You'll be back to your lying and scheming in no time. I know it. You know it. Everybody knows it.
Nicole: Come on, EJ. You've committed how many crimes? I can't even count. Can't I just have this one time?
EJ: You'd still be in jail were it not for the fact that Anna knew the governor.
Nicole: That's right. You know, I think I may make lucky my middle name. But you, I mean, you must be really ticked at Anna. She had Sydney all those months? And then she double-crossed you.
Philip: Okay, Vivian, let's get this straight. We are not your children. I'm not. Are you?
Philip: Melanie's not. Never were. Never will be.
Vivian: Well, you know, when you reach the age of 40 as I am, you think of other people younger as children. No offense.
Philip: Yeah. We were just leaving, right?
Vivian: Oh, okay. I'm being rejected. I understand. It's okay. But we'll have ample time to make that up when we become a family.
Philip: What are you talking about?
Vivian: Oh, Philip, be happy. It's a child's dream. Parents reunited.
Vivian: Your father and I are getting married. He finally popped the question.
Adrienne: I don't want to sound like an alarmist. I just want you to be careful. Just because someone's wearing a wedding ring doesn't--
Stephanie: Doesn't mean they won't have feelings for someone else?
Adrienne: Or that someone else might not have feelings for her, sweetheart. Come here. Give me a hug. I gotta go.
Stephanie: Oh, don't leave me.
Adrienne: Oh, sweetie pie.
Stephanie: So good seeing you. Thanks for listening.
Adrienne: Any time. I love you.
Stephanie: I love you more.
Stephanie: What are you doing back here?
Nathan: I thought we could talk. Is this a good time?
Rafe: I got six men with eyes on you. You're not going anywhere. Relax. Sit down. Come on, Benny. You don't mind if I call you Benny, do you? By the way, I'm Special Agent Hernandez. FBI. Let's talk about Anna.
Benny: You--you know Anna DiMera?
Rafe: Well, not as well as you do. Now Sydney DiMera, I know her very well. But then again, so do you. In fact, look at that. You even know what size diaper she wears. Now trust me, your secret's safe with me, buddy. I mean, I'm sure every time you went out, you had to ask Anna what size they were while she stayed back at the cottage watching Sydney.
Benny: I don't know a Sydney.
Rafe: Right. By the way, once we ran this picture through facial recognition, we got your DNA from a prison file. Guess what. Hey, hey, guess what. You're never gonna believe this. We actually were able to prove that you handled that stuffed animal, that one that Sydney liked to play with so much. The one that was accidentally left behind.
Benny: I want a lawyer.
Rafe: Of course you do. It's not a problem. I mean, not that some mouthpiece is actually gonna help you, but I'll tell you what... I can. Now if you play your cards right and you're smart about this, Benny, I can get you a deal. I'll talk to the prosecutor, who happens to be a very good friend of mine, and all I need are two things: Who Anna was working with and where she went.
EJ: Now why would you say that? Hmm?
Nicole: I don't know. Why would I?
EJ: I mean, I was never close with Anna, so how could she possibly betray me? How could she do that?
Nicole: Well, I lived in that mausoleum you called a home, remember? And you and Anna were buds.
EJ: Mm-hmm. I mean, I never had an issue with her. She was my sister-in-law.
Nicole: Mm-hmm. And after Tony died, you were very supportive of her. Even after she turned her back on Stefano.
EJ: She was alone.
Nicole: Right. And I wasn't surprised when she helped me get a pardon from the governor. But I was surprised when she had hurt you.
EJ: Hurt me?
Nicole: She took Sydney.
EJ: Yes, I know what she did.
Nicole: And so when I was thinking back on our conversations when I was still in prison, I know exactly why Anna took Sydney.
EJ: Do you now?
EJ: Well, why don't you tell me what Anna told you, Nikki? Why don't you tell me that?
Justin: Okay, Carly, you got to help me out here.
Carly: Oh, all right, Justin. What happened? Are you sleep-deprived? Did you drink your lunch?
Justin: [Laughs] Okay, fine. Forget it. To hell with it.
Justin: Wait a minute. Of course. Victor hates the fact that you and Bo are together, so marrying Vivian is sending you a message.
Carly: A little late, but I'll give you an a-plus.
Justin: He's telling you that, as long as you and Bo are together...
Carly: He will keep a deadly snake around ready to strike whenever he gives the word.
Adrienne: Carly. Is that you?
Carly: Adrienne, I heard you were back. Well, for a few days. How are you?
Adrienne: I'm fine. You?
Carly: Hanging in.
Adrienne: Good, good, good. I see you're back at the hospital.
Carly: Yeah, still playing doctor.
Adrienne: And back with Bo.
Adrienne: Wow. I never dreamed that would have happened. Not with Hope around.
Stephanie: Sure, I have time. Is something wrong?
Nathan: Well... not exactly wrong.
Stephanie: Let me guess. The E.R. called, and they changed your hours, and we have to reschedule our dinner. We have to cancel our dinner?
Nathan: Yes. I can't go out with you tonight.
Stephanie: Okay. No problem. Do you want to tell me why?
Nathan: It's Melanie.
Philip: What are you smoking, Vivian? My father would never marry you.
Vivian: Philip, you're in love. Why not the magnificent lion that's your father?
Philip: My father's a magnificent lion. My father may be a lot of things, but he is not nuts.
Vivian: Oh, well, I couldn't agree more. He's a man of great passion and virile needs.
Philip: Ugh. I don't want to hear this anymore. You're making this up. She's trying to provoke me. Let's go.
Vivian: Oh, now, wait a minute. No, wait a minute. You know, I've always wanted to be with Victor like you've always wanted to be with his handsome son. We are attracted to the same sort of men. You know, strong, bold, noble. Aren't we? And I know Philipís a bit thrown by this, but what do you think of it, darling?
Carly: Actually, I'm surprised myself, to be back with Bo, but we're happy together.
Adrienne: Oh. How's their little girl handling it?
Carly: Honestly, I wouldn't know.
Adrienne: I see. I always feel worse for the children. They're the ones who suffer the most. Then again, Bo and Hope, boy, they have such a long history, so much love between them. And no matter what they've gone through, they have always, always made it back to each other.
Carly: And the point you're trying to make with me is?
Adrienne: It's advice really.
Carly: Oh, I can't get enough of that.
Adrienne: Oh, I'm sure. Don't get too comfortable. Not with Hope around.
Stephanie: So you can't go out with me tonight because of Melanie?
Nathan: Look, this is really hard for me. But I owe it to you to be honest.
Stephanie: Go for it.
Nathan: It wouldn't be fair for me to date you anymore. Because I still have feelings for her.
Vivian: Oh, I hope I haven't come on too strong for you, darling.
Melanie: Uh, I want to go now.
Philip: All right, let's go.
Vivian: Oh, no, no, no, you stay, you stay. But I do hope that when Victor and I get married that you and my beloved son will move in to the mansion so we can be one big happy family. Ciao, darlings. Have a wonderful afternoon.
Philip: Yeah, she definitely doubled her dosage today, didn't she?
Melanie: No, no, no. We're not--we're not living-- we're not moving in with your dad and...
Philip: Babe, whoa, wh-whoa. Are you kidding me? Not when Mary Poppin' Pills is living there, no.
Melanie: [Sighs] Okay.
Philip: You don't think my dad's really gonna marry her, do you?
Melanie: I don't know. I mean, I really don't know. But I don't care. I don't care. 'Cause I just want you.
Rafe: So what do you say, Benny? We got a deal? You tell me where Anna DiMera went and who she's working with, and you get off for time served.
Benny: Pal, you can't keep questioning me. I just asked for a lawyer. Buzz off.
Rafe: Okay. It's your choice. I'm sure Salem P.D.'s gonna love having you as their houseguest. Take him away, Conway. Let Commander Brady know that he was up to his eyeballs aiding and abetting a kidnapping and that we can prove it. Don't let him talk to anyone, and if I know Roman, he's gonna want you to read him his rights on video. He'll break, and then we'll know who Anna DiMera was working with.
Nicole: What is with you today? Why are you so curious about what Anna said to me?
EJ: Frankly, I'm having a hard time recovering from the trauma of Sydneyís kidnapping. So now that one of her kidnappers is back in town, you'll excuse me if I'm a little bit paranoid.
Nicole: I know you. You're blowing smoke. You're not paranoid or traumatized. You're not even just curious. You are worried as hell about what Anna said to me. So spit it out, EJ. What exactly would Anna have said to me?
Anna: I took a very big risk, but it paid off.
Nicole: You are scared. And now I just have to figure out why.
Sami: I want us to be together.
