Rafe: Sami.

Bo: I don't give a damn what Kiriakis said. I'll deal with him. You search that house again. I want that comb. What do you want?

Vivian: To assist in the investigation, of course.

Bo: Let me guess how you plan to assist. I turn my back, and you plant evidence saying Carly meant to kill her daughter.

Vivian: I don't know what you're talking about.

Bo: Come on, Viv, make my day. Tell me what I already know. You're the one that wanted Melanie dead.

Philip: So why can't I see Melanie?

Daniel: Because I said so.

Philip: What aren't you telling me?

[Monitor beeping]

Carly: I'm ... honey, I'm your mother.

Melanie: You're my mother?

Carly: Yeah.

Melanie: [Laughs] Yeah, right.

Carly: Melanie, it's true. Listen to me.

Melanie: Shut up! Shut up. Stop lying to me.

Rafe: Sami? Sami, it's me. Sami?

EJ: You know, if you asked me, I could have told you she's not here.

Rafe: Oh, I asked you. You just haven't told me yet.

EJ: Well, I don't think it's any of your business. Now, what do you want with Samantha?

Rafe: Where is she?

Sami: I'm right here.

Rafe: Sami.

Sami: What are you doing here? Oh, God, you f-- you found Sydney’s body, didn't you?

Mia: Chad.

Chad: I-- Mrs. Horton had to leave, but she said I could wait for you here... after I promised her I wouldn't steal anything.

Mia: You, uh, wanted to see me?

Chad: Well, yeah.

Mia: Why?

Chad: I, um, heard about Melanie.

Mia: Getting shot at your own wedding. It's like a nightmare, except it's true.

Chad: I was, um... wondering how you were doing.

Mia: Uh, me? Really?

Chad: I mean, your housemate getting shot had to kinda freak you out a little bit.

Mia: Yeah. Yeah, it totally did. I--I know I should be at the hospital, but I don't really like hospitals so much. Not anymore.

Chad: After the baby?

Mia: Yeah.

Chad: I should have been there.

Mia: I wasn't really even there like I should have been. But I didn't know that she was my baby-- our--our baby. It was-- I don't want to lose anyone else, Chad. I don't think I could take it.

Chad: I'm sorry. I'm just so sorry.

Melanie: Don't-- don't touch me.

Carly: You have no idea how long I waited to find you and--

Melanie: And find me and tell me that you're my mom? And then shoot me?

Carly: I know it sounds--

Melanie: What, like crazy talk from a scary person!

Carly: Melanie, please--

Melanie: Get out of here, Carly! Get out of here!

Rafe: No, Sami, listen to me.

Sami: They found her body.

Rafe: No, they did not find her body. They did not find anything. They didn’t. Okay?

Sami: When I saw you two standing here, I just thought--

Rafe: I know. I came here to talk to you, and then he answered the door.

Sami: You were inside?

EJ: Yeah. Johnny told me about the key that you have over the door latch. Listen, I came 'round and I called, and I rang the doorbell several times, and you didn't answer. I was worried about you.

Sami: Well, I didn't sleep very well last night. I guess I must have closed my eyes because-- because I thought I heard Sydney crying. And I was halfway down the hallway before I realized. So I went for a drive and remembered that the only black dress that I have... is at the dry cleaners. It's the only one that's appropriate for a funeral, so I had to get it, and, uh--

EJ: Look, um, Samantha... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.

Rafe: Right.

EJ: I just had to get here as soon as I could because there's something really important that I need to talk to you about. Look, this news was... so shocking, I really wasn't able to process it until this morning.

Sami: What do you mean?

EJ: Will, Johnny, Allie, have you told them yet?

Sami: Will was staying at Lucas', and Johnny and Allie were asleep. I just--I couldn’t...

EJ: I want to be there when you tell them.

Sami: You do?

EJ: I couldn't sleep last night. Got out of bed this morning, I felt very alone. And I realized that the only other person in this whole world who has any idea of what I'm going through is you.

Sami: EJ...

EJ: Wait a second, Samantha. You and I have been through some pretty hideous times together. But we are in this together. We are her parents. She is our daughter.

Sami: Yes, she is.

Chad: Hey.

Gabi: Hi. Mia, I am so sorry about Melanie.

Mia: Yeah, me too.

Gabi: When Chad told me what happened I said, "you have to make sure she's okay."

Mia: Oh, it was your idea?

Gabi: I hope that's all right with you.

Mia: Yeah. Sure. Thanks.

Vivian: I'm here because I'm afraid.

Bo: You? Of what?

Vivian: Carly. She tried to kill Lawrence. She'll try to do the same thing to me. That's why I intend to testify at her bail hearing. The woman is a danger.

Bo: Who you calling?

Vivian: The judge. Lovely man. I've had a few dealings with him.

Bo: I'm sure. Stop blowing smoke. Put down the phone. You're wasting your time.

Carly: No, I'm not leaving here until I make you understand. I may never get the chance to talk to you again.

Melanie: So you come up with some crazy story that you're my mom?

Carly: Melanie, I am your mother.

Melanie: My mother died when I was a baby.

Carly: She wasn't your mother, I was.

Melanie: So you shot me?

Carly: I was trying to protect you!

Melanie: Well, just so you know, you suck at it!

Carly: I know-- I'm a doctor, not a marksman!

Melanie: Why aren't you in jail? Why do you get to be alone with somebody you shot?

Carly: No one knows I'm here.

Melanie: No one knows you're here? Lovely, lovely. That's great. And now you can go. Now you can go, Carly!

Philip: Did you hear that?

Melanie: Get away from me!

Carly: Listen--

Melanie: Carly, get out of here!

Daniel: Hey, hey, hey, hey! Shh. Calm down.

Carly: Melanie...

Daniel: Calm down. Hey, hey.

Philip: Is she the reason you were keeping me away from my wife? Huh? Huh?

Carly: Listen to me, Melanie.

Philip: What are you doing here? What are you doing? Get away from my wife.

Daniel: Melanie, shh. Shh. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Shh. Shh. Calm down. It's okay. It's okay.

Melanie: [Sobbing]

Bo: You're too late. Carly's already had her bail hearing.

Vivian: You're joking.

Bo: Dead serious.

Vivian: Why didn't someone inform me? I am an eyewitness to what she did.

Bo: Someone who's worked the justice system as much as you ought to know there's no testimony during a bail hearing.

Vivian: The woman is a danger to society. Everybody knows that.

Bo: She's not a flight risk. Everything she loves is right here in Salem. You know that.

Vivian: Well, certainly the judge denied bail.

Bo: No. Carly's on the street right now.

Vivian: Oh, my God.

Chad: Gabi and I came here together.

Gabi: We were getting out of the car when my mom called.

Mia: Cool. Uh, you guys want a soda or something?

Chad: Mm, we're good.

Gabi: Yeah, we just ate.

[Cell phone ringing]

Chad: Great. It's my dad.

Gabi: Better pick up.

Chad: Mm-hmm. Hey, Dad, what's up?

Mia: So you and Chad seem pretty tight.

Gabi: We hang out. It's nothing serious.

Mia: You're smart to keep it that way.

Gabi: What's that supposed to mean?

Mia: Serious and Chad don't mix. I'd hate to see you get hurt.

Rafe: I know that this is a difficult situation for both of you. But let's not forget, this is not over.

Sami: It is. Rafe, it's over.

Rafe: Without finding the person who did this? Without bringing them to justice?

EJ: Justice? What justice? You've got a real nerve saying that to her, Rafe. You and your macho bloody posturing. How is that gonna bring our daughter back?

Rafe: Well, it may not bring your daughter back, but this happened because your crazy wife stole her from your house. So what I'm gonna do is follow that trail to where it leads me. Okay? That's all.

Sami: I don't want that. I don't want to know. I don't want to know what happened to her. I don't want to know how her dress ended up bloody in the river. I don't--

EJ: Of course you don’t. Neither do I. That's enough, thank you, Rafe. Enough.

Sami: I just to remember what a happy, beautiful little girl--

Rafe: Sami, some dirtbag took her from you. I'm gonna find that person. I'm gonna make them pay! That's it.

EJ: How? What are you gonna do? Are you gonna bring Sydney back? Look-- Rafe, we don't need another hero. Okay? You claim you care about Samantha. Do you not understand that she's grieving. Are you not able to understand what she is going through right now?

Philip: What were you doing in there?

Carly: I'm out on bail, okay?

Philip: And you came right over here, huh?

Daniel: Carly asked me if she could see Melanie, and I said yes.

Philip: And you let her into Melanie’s room? Why would you do that?

Daniel: I did, okay? Because I don't believe Carly meant to shoot Melanie. And because when Melanie was hurt as badly as she was, I think the person she wants, whether she knows it or not... is her mother.

Vivian: This is horrible. Horrible!

Bo: I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. I don't think Carly will try to take you out again. Not as long as you stay away from her daughter.

Vivian: Look, I want Melanie to live as much as anyone.

Bo: Yeah, right.

[Cell phone ringing]

Bo: Brady.

Daniel: Hey, it's Daniel. Melanie's regained consciousness. She's gonna be okay.

Bo: Oh, good. Carly will be happy to hear that.

Daniel: Yeah, well, Carly knows.

Bo: You called her?

Daniel: Yeah, she's right here.

Bo: Why am I not surprised?

Daniel: Yeah, well, Philip caught her in Melanie’s room.

Bo: I'm on my way.

Vivian: Are we talking about Melanie?

Bo: She's conscious.

Vivian: Does that mean she'll-- oh, my God.

Lawrence: Well, Auntie, what are you gonna do about all this? I believe I asked you a question.

Anna: Your daddy thinks that taking you and your brother far away from Sami will make him happy. Get back at her for not loving him anymore. But I do wonder how he'll feel when it is just you two and him and no Sami. And what is gonna happen to her without you and Johnny? Hmm? I hate to say it, Syd... but I don't see a "happily ever after" for any of you.

Rafe: Sami. Sami, listen-- this is really hard. Can I just talk to you alone? It would really help things.

EJ: Samantha--

Rafe: Sami--

EJ: Uh, sorry. Look, uh, I said what I came to say, so... you know where you can find me.

Sami: EJ. I'd like it if you'd stay. You should go.

Vivian: Lawrence, there's nothing I can do about Carly.

Lawrence: I don't like that answer.

Vivian: All right. She did get bail, but the charges weren't dropped against her. I mean, if you look at it this way, it came out better than we expected. Carly will have to live with the fact that she tried to kill her own daughter, and she'll have to take that to prison with her.

Lawrence: But she'll live. I hate that part. And if you cared about me at all, you would hate it too.

[Monitor beeping]

Philip: I was so scared. I can't tell you what it means to see you awake. To know that we can still spend our life together.

Melanie: This is hot lingerie, huh? It's not really how I pictured spending our honeymoon.

Philip: Me neither.

Melanie: [Giggles] That Carly, she's a trip, huh? She shoots me and then claims to be my mom... thinking that'll get her off, lying to me.

Philip: Mel, I don't know if she's lying.

Daniel: Hey.

Chloe: Hi.

Daniel: How did the therapy session go?

Chloe: I don't want to talk about it. I want to talk about you.

Gabi: Look, I know you still want Chad, and you're jealous because he's gotten over you. But don't keep putting him down to me.

Mia: I wasn't putting him down. I'm looking out for you.

Gabi: Right.

Mia: Chad and I shared a baby together, Gabi. That's never going to go away. And I'd hate for you to end up feeling like... just a hook-up to him.

Chad: Pbbbbt! Yikes. Sorry that took so long. What happened? What'd I miss?

Rafe: You want me to leave. Why do you want me to leave?

Sami: Because my baby is dead. And nothing is gonna change that. And you want to find out who did it, and why and how and-- I don't want to talk about it, and it seems like that's the only thing you can talk about.

Rafe: I hate seeing you like this.

Sami: Well, that's too bad. Because this is how I am! When Grace died, you grieved with me.

Rafe: Well, maybe I can't do that this time.

Sami: Well, then, maybe you should go back to work.

Rafe: I'll be at the office if you need anything.

Lawrence: Carly is free right now. What's the first thing she's going to do?

Vivian: I don't know... go to the Brady pub and see what the boys in the back room will have?

Lawrence: Ha ha ha ha. Stop making jokes!

Vivian: Sorry.

Lawrence: She'd want to see her daughter. The one she almost killed.

Vivian: So what? Melanie hates Carly.

Lawrence: Why can't you see the big picture? What if Carly persuades Melanie that she was really aiming at you? What if she convinces Melanie that she was trying to protect her from you? Carly is very good at winning people over.

Vivian: Never understood that one.

Lawrence: Don't underestimate her. She can make Melanie believe her. And even if she goes to prison, she'll go knowing she has the love of her daughter. And that thought consigns me to eternity in hell! Is that what you want for me?

Carly: I know you're furious with me.

Bo: I'm fine.

Carly: Then why are you talking in sentences of four words or less?

Bo: I'm not.

Carly: I rest my case.

Bo: You lied to me. You left the police station. Violated the terms of your release. Enough words for you?

Carly: Mm-hmm. Look, if somebody made you promise not to see Ciara, would you honor that promise?

Bo: Probably not.

Carly: Thank you.

Bo: If my daughter was an adult and had been shot by me, and didn't know I was her father, I wouldn't go charging into her hospital room to tell her.

Carly: I didn't mean to tell her, okay? I just-- I wanted to make it clear that I would never hurt her. I told her I was just trying to protect her. So she kept asking me why I would do that, and it came out.

Bo: Mm-hmm. And now she doesn't want to have anything to do with you. What were you thinking?

Carly: Exactly what I'm thinking right now-- that she almost died, and I was responsible. That if I don't figure out some way to make this wretched situation right, I won't be able to live with myself.

[Monitor beeping]

Melanie: Why are you defending her?

Philip: I'm not. All I can tell you is what I heard. Okay, I heard a shot. I ran up to the roof. Carly was a wreck. She said she'd shot her daughter.

Melanie: But I have a mom. I had one. She died when I was young. Really young. I don't even remember, but she was my mom, not Carly. So why is Carly saying she's my mom?

Philip: Baby, baby, this situation is beyond weird, I know. It's okay.

Melanie: You believe Carly, don't you?

Daniel: Okay, you seem pretty upset with me.

Chloe: Well, I receive a false positive on a home pregnancy test, and I'm disappointed. But you want to ship me off to some shrink?

Daniel: No, I don't think that's what I did.

Chloe: Daniel, all I need is you. I just wish that you would be as committed to me as you are to your friend, Carly Manning.

Daniel: Okay, how does she come into this?

Chloe: Daniel, I saw you. Your career means everything to you, and you were willing to risk it to let her in to see Melanie? Carly, the woman who shot her.

Daniel: No, she shot her by accident. And she was desperate to see her daughter to tell her that.

Chloe: Oh, really? Her daughter? The daughter she gave up and let other people raise?

Daniel: No, I think she was doing what she thought was best for her kid.

Chloe: Best for her kid, or best for Carly?

Daniel: I don't know. I wasn't there.

Chloe: Well, I'm sure Carly is trying to convince Bo right now that the best thing for her to do was ignore him and just go running to the hospital.

Daniel: Chloe--Chloe-- wait, wait, wait, wait--

Chloe: You know what, Carly has ruined Bo's marriage, and she's gonna ruin his life. And I'm not gonna stand back and watch as she does the same thing to you.

EJ: I made you a cup of tea.

Sami: Thank you. You don't have to take care of me. I know this is as horrible for you as it is for me.

EJ: It's okay. It makes me feel useful.

Sami: So what do you think Rafe wanted? Just to be useful?

EJ: I think-- I think-- it doesn't really matter what I think.

Sami: It's okay, you can tell me.

EJ: I think Rafe didn't know Sydney. He didn't look after her. He didn't get up in the middle of the night to change her nappies. He didn't listen to her talking to herself first thing in the morning. He didn't know her.

Sami: I didn't get to do those things either.

EJ: No, Samantha, but you're her mother. You carried her. You have a connection to her. I have a connection to her. Rafe...doesn’t.

Sami: He--he brought her back to me. He's the one who proved that Nicole had switched Mia's baby with mine. That's a connection. So that's why I don't understand why he is all about the case. I mean, it's like Sydney doesn't even matter to him.

EJ: Samantha, I think you're gonna find that Rafe is... beginning to show his true colors.

Sami: What?

EJ: He just got his job back at the FBI. You know, he's probably very keen to impress his superiors, and Sydney... she's a case to him.

Sami: No, no. I don't want to think that.

EJ: I know you don’t. I know you don’t.

Sami: I'm glad you're here.

EJ: I'm glad I'm here too.

Carly: Look, I never wanted to give Melanie up. You know that. It broke my heart. And she was this fantasy-- you know, this idea for so long. But then I got here and I met her, and she's so smart and funny and bullheaded and passionate and beautiful.

Bo: Sound familiar?

Carly: And I immediately loved her. And then she told me about her life. A life that I arranged for her because of who I was, and who I married. And she's just now finding a little bit of happiness, and Vivian flies in on her broomstick, ready to make sure that all of Lawrence’s crazy curses come true. So I had to go in there, and I had to warn her.

Bo: Someone else could have done that.

Carly: No. When I got to the hospital, they weren't sure she was even gonna pull through. Daniel was afraid she'd given up. Bo, she heard my voice, and she came back to me. And then I proceeded to make her hate me even more than she already does.

[Monitor beeping]

Philip: When it comes to Carly, I'm not sure I know what to believe.

Melanie: But you said--

Philip: Hey, hey, Mrs. Kiriakis, all I can think about is how close I came to losing you. I've never been so damn scared in my life.

Melanie: Some wedding day, huh?

Philip: It'll get better. I promise.

Melanie: There's nowhere to go but up.

Philip: [Chuckles] You look like you could sleep.

Melanie: Yeah.

Philip: You in pain? You want anything?

Melanie: Um...can I have some water?

Philip: Yeah. I love you.

Melanie: I love you too. Why am I so important to you? Why are you trying so hard to be a part of my life when you're just clearly not?

Carly: I need to tell her the truth.

Melanie: The truth about what?

Sami: Thanks for staying.

EJ: Well, like I told you earlier, we're in this together. Yeah. We're gonna go through it together. And I'll help see Johnny and Allie through it as well.

Sami: I'd like that.

EJ: Thinking about it?

Sami: Rafe just wasn't acting like himself.

EJ: Maybe he was, Samantha. Just a side of himself that he hadn't shown to you.

Sami: I appreciate everything you've done, but I really don't feel comfortable talking about Rafe with you.

EJ: Sorry. Look, I should probably get going anyway. If you need anything, call me. Anytime, all right? We're in this together.

Sami: Thank you. I don't get it, Rafe. I thought we were supposed to be in it together. What happened?

Rafe: Tim, it's Rafe. Hey, listen, man, I need your help cutting through some local agency bull-- bureaucracy. Yeah, I want to see every lease agreement that was made in Salem in the last six months. Especially ones that just ended recently. Yeah, no kidding. If I go through the proper channels, I'm gonna be an old man before I find out where Sydney DiMera was held. Okay, man, thanks a lot. Hey, add that to the long list of things I already owe you. Okay.

Man: You wanted the remnants of Sydney’s clothes?

Rafe: Yeah.

Man: Lab's all through with them.

Rafe: I assume if they'd found a body or anything else, you would have told me?

Man: Yeah, I would.

Rafe: Yeah.

Man: But they didn’t.

Rafe: No.

Daniel: Look, honey, I know how happy you were-- how happy you were when you thought you were pregnant.

Chloe: Well, you seemed pretty happy too.

Daniel: I was. But I want you, whether you can have kids or not.

Chloe: I think this is hitting you a lot harder than you're willing to admit. When Carly asked to see Melanie, the daughter that she gave up, you just used bad judgment.

Daniel: I know. Maybe you're right.

Chloe: Really?

Daniel: Really. Hey, come on. This has been hard on both of us. But we love each other, right? And we are going to get through this. You will never be alone. I promise you.

Lawrence: Trying to make a quick getaway?

Vivian: Lawrence, I would never abandon you.

Lawrence: No, you'd just walk out on our mission.

Vivian: I've already lost Philip in this. If I go near Melanie, Victor will turn me in.

Lawrence: So what?

Vivian: Excuse me?

Lawrence: What's a life in exile, or a little jail time, compared to dooming Carly to a life of misery?

Vivian: Oh, right, there's that.

Lawrence: Finish what you started, Auntie.

Vivian: Right. What was I thinking? I have to avenge your death... with another.

Lawrence: Can I count on you?

[Monitor beeping]

Philip: Hey, you should be sleeping.

Melanie: Oops. I can’t. I'm wide awake.

Philip: How come?

Melanie: Okay, I made a decision. I need your help.

Carly: I swear to you, when I went in there, I had no intention of telling her that she was my daughter. Although, yeah, there was a part of me that wanted to.

Bo: I understand that.

Carly: I think I had this crazy hope that, you know, she would hear it and be happy. That she would see me and go, "yeah, that's the vital ingredient that's been missing from my life."

Bo: Kinda difficult to have that moment when you're the reason she's in the hospital.

Carly: Yeah. Why did I even get involved with the Alamains?

Bo: You tell me.

Carly: I'm just afraid I'm not gonna be able to make this up to her.

[Cell phone ringing]

Carly: Excuse me. Dr. Manning.

Philip: This is Philip Kiriakis. Melanie would like to see you. Now.

EJ: Hey.

Anna: Hi.

EJ: How's Sydney?

Anna: She is sleeping, like the angel she is.

EJ: Good.

Anna: And, uh, there's the passports.

EJ: Mm. Ah... [Chuckles] Klaus does a good job. He does a good job. Let's see, me, Johnny, Sydney. We can go anywhere with these. With these, let me tell you, we can simply disappear. Then we'll see how Samantha feels, eh? When she's lost both her children and her boyfriend.

Sami: Hi. Hi! Hi, Sydney.

Rafe: Oh...God...

EJ: We're leaving Salem for good.

Melanie: I want to know who I am.

Hope: I hope to hell she's worth it.
