Sami: I wonder if they’ve found something.

Rafe: I'm gonna call and see.

EJ: You're being very brave.

Sami: I don't feel brave. All this time, I've been praying... for a sign... for a clue... for something, just anything. And then we... find her dress, and it has... it has... I can't even say it.

EJ: Listen to me, Samantha. This clue doesn't actually mean anything, okay? That dress, it-- so many girls have that dress, do you understand? I really wish Rafe hadn't said anything. I mean, what is the point of telling us all this until he knows something for certain, which he doesn't... right?

Vivian: Why are you two just standing there? Even if Carly missed her target, she shot someone, probably to death.

Carly: No, no.

Vivian: She just admitted that she was aiming at me. She tried to kill me like she did her husband.

Carly: No, you were gonna hit my daughter. You were gonna beat her over the head with a steel rod. That's how you were gonna get your revenge.

Vivian: That is so ridiculous. We were having a lovely conversation.

Carly: That's not true.

Vivian: We were talking about the cities that she and Philip were going to visit on her honeymoon. Why are you standing there? Arrest her.

Bo: Why don't you shut up?

Vivian: Oh, please, Bo. Just because you're sleeping with the woman.

Bo: I said, "shut up."

Vivian: Mayor Carver, are you going to let the police commissioner tell me to shut up--a heartbroken woman over a girl who's probably dying as we speak? We are standing in the presence of a murderess.

Abe: Bo... if you don't arrest Carly, I'm gonna have to get someone over here who will.

Daniel: Come on, don't you dare give up, Melanie. Come on, you got to fight, you hear me? You got to fight. Come on. Time?

Lexie: Ten minutes, a little over.

Daniel: [Groans] What should we do? Should we call it? Melanie... don't you give up. You fight. Come on.

Sami: There's a chance that this doesn't have anything to do with Sydney, right? It--it might really not be hers, right?

EJ: I believe that our little girl is out there. She's somewhere, Samantha, and you and I are gonna find her. She's gonna be reunited with her parents. That is what I believe.

Sami: I believe that too. I believe it too. [Sobbing]

Carly: It's okay. You don't have to protect me. I don't care what happens to me.

Bo: Don't say that.

Carly: I just want to help my daughter. Let me assist Daniel.

Philip: What? You've got to be kidding.

Carly: I just need to be in the O.R.

Philip: No, what you need to be is arrested, lady.

Carly: Bo, please.

Philip: Oh, you can beg all you want. You aren't going anywhere near my wife ever again.

Bo: You can't operate on your own daughter. You know that.

Carly: I do. I just--I want to help, that's all. There just must be some way that I can help.

Philip: Lexie... how is she? Is she out of surgery?

Carly: Oh, God. No. No.

Lexie: Melanie coded on the table.

Philip: [Sighs]

Lexie: Dr. Jonas is doing everything he can to revive her. Right now she's hooked up to a cardiopulmonary machine. Melanie's strong. She's young. She's strong. She's a fighter... which is why we are taking every possible measure.

Carly: Oh, you--you need to infuse her, right?

Lexie: Yeah.

Carly: Okay, uh, she's AB negative, so am I. I-I want to donate blood.

Philip: [Sighs]

Carly: Let me do it now, please.

Bo: Philip... let her help.

Philip: All right.

Bo: Make sure Vivian doesn't go anywhere.

Abe: Mm.

Vivian: Philip, I'm so sorry you're going through all this. I wouldn't have hurt that lovely woman, your beautiful wife. Honestly, you know I wouldn't have.

Philip: Leave me alone, Vivian, please.

Vivian: Oh, you're not gonna take that lunatic's word over mine, are you?

Kate: Oh, yes, he is.

Sami: [Sniffles, sobbing]

Rafe: No news yet from forensics.

Sami: [Sniffles]

Rafe: You want to go home, wait there maybe?

Sami: No, I want to--I want to stay here 'cause--'cause Sydney lived here.

Rafe: Okay.

Vivian: Just when it seemed to be painful enough--

Kate: Really? You're in pain? Because I see a look of satisfaction on your face.

Vivian: Will someone please make this woman leave?

Kate: [Sighing] Oh, God. Would you think about it? Why would Carly shoot her own daughter in cold blood? Philip, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Vivian: She stabbed her husband to death in cold blood, lest we forget.

Kate: Her husband who was a cruel and a sadistic man who tried to kill her, lest we forget.

Philip: Shut up! Shut up, both of you! Doesn't it register with either of you that my wife is in the O.R. and might not make it? That is the only thing we should be thinking about... is Melanie.

Lucas: Hey, take it easy, man, all right?

Philip: Thanks.

Vivian: Thank you, Victor.

Victor: What on earth for?

Vivian: For what you said to Philip, dispelling the myths about Carly's moral superiority. I hope it's making you think clearer.

Victor: Not in the least.

Vivian: Well, if you would just understand, I-I didn't--

Victor: I will only understand if and when my daughter-in-law survives this tragic accident.

Vivian: Well, of course. We're all praying for her to survive, poor thing.

Victor: And my son... what he's going through? If Philip loses his bride on his wedding day because you brazenly and recklessly disobeyed me...

Vivian: [Sighs] You have to admit, you wanted Carly to suffer.

Victor: Oh, for God sakes, zip it. This is not about Carly. This is about Melanie. If that girl doesn't survive, your life as you know it, Vivian Alamain, will be over.

Bo: Fill me in. Tell me what happened.

Carly: Vivian figured out that Melanie was my daughter. And before I had a chance to reach you or her, to warn you, Vivian had me kidnapped.

Bo: Why?

Carly: She was planning on murdering Melanie at her wedding, and she wanted me to witness it.

Bo: She admitted this to you?

Carly: Mm-hmm. But it's her word against mine, Bo. She has this manservant, Gus. I'm--I'm sure that he's long gone by now.

Bo: I'll put out an A.P.B. on him. Vivian will not get away with this.

Carly: Bo, she already has.

Sami: EJ, if you don't want to, I understand, but, uh, maybe you could talk to me about... about Sydney. Tell me about her.

EJ: Uh... of course. Of course.

Sami: I mean, I know I probably heard all the stories already, but it--it'd be nice to hear them again.

EJ: [Inhales deeply] Um... well, um... well, one story would be that she's, uh, musical. Yeah. I'd be listening to music, and I'd be feeding her, and I'd start humming, and she would start humming back.

Sami: Really?

EJ: Yeah.

Sami: You never told me that.

[Cell phone rings]

EJ: Yeah, the new Taylor Swift... [Chuckles] as a child.

Sami: [Laughs] What else?

EJ: Well, um... she loved nursery rhymes, you know, one's from England in particular. There's this one from London.

Sami: The oranges and lemons?

EJ: Yes, that's the one.

[Cell phone rings]

EJ: That was her favorite.

Rafe: Hernandez. Yeah, sure. It's forensics... just waiting for results about Sydney.

Sami: [Exhales sharply]

Bo: Why do you think Vivian can get away with this? All I have to do is have forensics examine that comb.

Carly: Bo, it's not gonna do any good.

Bo: Why do you say that?

Carly: 'Cause Victor, he--he switched the comb for a decoy. That's why Vivian had to lure Melanie up to the roof.

Bo: Okay. So when you escaped from the basement...

Carly: I rushed back to the mansion, and Maggie said that Vivian had taken Melanie up to the roof, so I raced up there, and I got there in time... or so I thought.

Bo: Right. Where'd you get the gun?

Carly: I took it from Hope.

Bo: You took her service weapon?

Carly: I wasn't gonna use it. I just wanted it for protection. [Voice breaking] Honestly, I don't know what happened, because it happened so fast.

Bo: Okay, okay. It's gonna be okay.

Carly: No, it's not gonna be okay! Everything that I've done to protect my daughter--do you understand? I never should've come back to Salem. I should've just stayed away for good!

Bo: Shh.

Kate: Sweetie... my heart is breaking for you, it is. I know any girl that you could love as much as you love Melanie is a very special girl. I know that. And I am praying for you, and I am praying for her. I love you. I do. You are my generous, my sweet... my loving son.

Lexie: Any change?

Daniel: Well, the vessels are repaired. I'm ready to take her off bypass. [Sighs] Oh, come on, Melanie. It is your wedding day. You've got so much happiness ahead of you and Philip. So you stay strong, okay? You fight. Live.

Anna: [Gasps] Isn't this darling? Oh. And pretty soon you're gonna be all decked out in this, because where you're going, you lucky girl, it's sunny and warm all year round. And you're gonna be ready for it, aren't you? For your brand-new life with your daddy. Mm-hmm.

Rafe: Yeah. You're sure? Okay, thanks. Yeah, I will. DNA results are back.

Sami: So is it Sydney's... Sydney's blood?

Rafe: Yes.

Sami: [Cries] [Sobbing]

Bo: You listen to me. It was not a mistake for you to come back to Salem.

Carly: Don't. Don't try to placate me, especially with my daughter in there fighting for her life because of my choices, my reckless choices.

Bo: Carly, don't do this to yourself.

Carly: No, if I had gone somewhere else, if I had just left it alone--

Bo: Left it alone? How could you have left it alone, when Lawrence was gonna kill Melanie? And if he'd failed, Vivian would've carried it out.

Carly: No. No. She--she came here because of me. She followed me to Salem, because I was stupid, thinking that I could be reunited with my daughter, t-that--

Bo: Stop.

Carly: No!

Bo: Listen to me.

Carly: It was because of my selfish need to have her back in my life, knowing full well how dangerous this all was.

Bo: Carly, listen to me. When Melanie wakes up, when she recovers and finds out what you did, what her mother did to save her, she's gonna be grateful and happy that you were right here in Salem.

Carly: When she wakes up.

Bo: Yes.

Carly: She's gonna wake up, right?

Bo: Right.

Carly: Please, god. Please.

Bo: She'll wake up. She'll wake up.

Carly: [Sobbing]

[Monitor beeping]

Lexie: Another unit of AB negative, donated by Dr. Manning.

Daniel: Dr. Manning's AB negative?

Lexie: Carly is Melanie's mother. Long story.

Daniel: Well, uh, take her off bypass. Now... we wait.

Lexie: [Sighs]

[Beeping continues]

Sami: [Crying]

Rafe: I'm so sorry. I'm sorry.

EJ: But we--we--we don't know anything definitive, right, Rafe? I mean, it's just a dress. They didn't actually-- you know? I mean, it's not definitive, right? They--they don't know for sure. Rafe, tell her they don't know for sure.

Rafe: No, we don't know for sure. You're right. You are right. We--

Sami: [Sobbing]

Rafe: I mean, the elements, the... depth of the river, the speed of the current... we may not find anything else.

Sami: [Sniffles, sobbing]

Rafe: You listen to me, Sami. Whatever happened to Sydney, I promise you, I am gonna find whoever's responsible for this.

Sami: I don't care about who's responsible! Do you think I care? I just want her back! I just want her back! That's all I want! I want my little girl! I just want her alive. That--that--that's what I want. [Sobbing]

EJ: [Sighs] You know, when you're a little bit older... you'll realize why I did this, you know? I just want you to have some stability. I don't want you to...

Sydney: [Babbles]

EJ: Suffer--move you backwards and forwards from parent to parent, week after week, year after year. I don't want that for you... or your brother. I don't want the two of you to be pulled between two competing parents. I want you to have a nice, happy life. And we will. We're gonna have a nice, happy life, the three of us... just the three of us. Mwah.

Sami: [Sobbing] Please tell me it's not true. Just tell me. You believe it's not true. Come on, you feel her. You know she's still alive. Please just tell me. Tell me you believe that, please. Please. Please. EJ, EJ, please. Please.

Victor: If she's done bleeding herself, please escort her out of here.

Bo: Victor, don't.

Victor: What? What have I done? This woman shot my daughter-in-law. No one wants to look at her, least of all Philip.

Carly: Please, I'm begging you, just--just let me stay here until Melanie's out of surgery, until I know she's okay.

Bo: Abe, what do you say?

Abe: [Sighs] Sorry, Bo. Should I have the other officer do it?

Bo: No.

Abe: We're taking you in too, Vivian.

Vivian: What? A-As a witness, I presume.

Abe: And a suspect.

Vivian: What?

Abe: Officer Sullivan, if you would handcuff Ms. Alamain and take her down to the station.

Vivian: I was just having a nice conversation with my daughter-in-law about her honeymoon.

Abe: Well, according to Carly's statement, you're accused of attempted murder. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can and will be held against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand these rights as I have read them?

Vivian: Victor, do something!

Bo: I'm sorry.

Carly: Don't be.

Carly: Yes.

Bo: Let's go.

Sami: That river's freezing.

[Breathing shakily]

EJ: Samantha, come on. Don't.

Sami: We walked by it. How many times have we been down at that pier? And... and Sydney was there. She was there, and she needed us.

EJ: We don't know that. Look, when you spoke to the kidnapper, when you talked to them, they were in Cleveland. We didn't even know that Sydney was in Salem until the day of the failed ransom drop.

Sami: [Sighs] All that woman wanted was our money. She just wanted money, and when we didn't... we didn't give it to her, and... and so she didn't need Sydney anymore, and she threw her away. She threw my little girl away... like I told you that she would. I told you she would. I told you. I... Aah! [Sobbing]

Kate: So what was the intention? Was she going to push Melanie off the roof?

Victor: You want some coffee?

Kate: Just answer the question. Was that the plan?

Victor: Black, no sugar, right?

Kate: You think that I don't know how all of this evolved, why you brought that malevolent witch back into your house? Because you have a bloodlust for revenge. You both share a joint obsession with taking Carly down.

Victor: Let it go, Kate. Detective work is not your strong suit.

Kate: How could you let it happen? How could you let her hurt our son?

Victor: I did not do that. I would never let that happen.

Kate: Really? Because it happened, and if Melanie dies...

Victor: You know, your concern for Melanie is disingenuous at best. You don't even like the girl.

Kate: I have respect for his love for her.

Victor: Oh, of course you do, just like you had respect for Lucas' love for Chloe.

Kate: [Scoffs] You know that was different. Chloe was cheating on Lucas.

Victor: Here's your coffee.

Kate: Ow! It's hot. [Sighs]

Victor: I need to be alone.

Kate: Why? Because you're feeling sorry for yourself. Are you feeling guilty? Do you not want to talk about it because you know--you know you're responsible for all of this?

Victor: You know, as usual, you're making no sense at all.

Kate: Victor, I remember when we held a vigil in this hospital for Philip. And together, we prayed for his recovery and a long and happy life. If his heart is broken, it's all your fault, because you brought Vivian Alamain back into your life, back into your house-- that bitch back into our lives.

Vivian: [Sighs]

Bo: We could do this all night long.

Vivian: I assume you're talking about squandering our time--yours and mine.

Bo: So that's how you're gonna play it.

Vivian: Well, I was just told by the mayor that I had the right to remain silent.

Bo: You kidnapped Carly, almost got Hope killed, tried to kill Melanie--not once but twice--and did a poor job of covering up your tracks, because the only thing on your mind was revenge...

Vivian: Yada yada yada.

Bo: Which has a way of upending efficiency when it comes to pulling off the perfect crime.

Vivian: Blah blah blah blah blah.

Bo: When Hope wakes up, she will corroborate Carly's story. So I would pray to God, or... whoever it is that people like you worship, that Melanie survives.

Vivian: Yes... I will pray. I will.

Lawrence: [Applauding] Standing "O". One bullet, perfect aim. I couldn't have done it better myself.

Sami: How am I gonna tell the twins and Will... and everyone? [Sighs]

EJ: We'll do it together.

Sami: [Sighs]

Rafe: Let's go home. I need to make some calls.

Sami: [Sighs] E-EJ... um... we'll talk soon, okay?

EJ: Yeah... soon.

Sami: [Sniffles]

EJ: Okay, so I wanted to have a chat with you, because you... might be hearing some--some not-so-good things about your sister in the next few weeks, all right? And I just want you to know that they're not true, okay? But that's our little secret, all right? Your daddy's gonna make sure nothing bad happens, okay? So whatever terrible things you hear, you just know everything's gonna be all right, okay? You got that? Good boy. That's my boy.

Sami: So much for being with my family.

Rafe: Sleeping?

Sami: Yeah. The twins are asleep and so is my grandma, and, um, Will is out somewhere with, uh, Mia.

Rafe: You want to go home?

Sami: No, I-I just want to sit here.

Rafe: Can I get you some-- something, coffee or tea?

Sami: [Sighs]

Rafe: [Sighs deeply] I should go make those calls.

Sami: [Sniffles] Hey. It's me. Um, I was wondering if you could... come talk to me. [Voice breaking] I'm at the pub. Something really... terrible has happened.

Anna: Yeah, diamonds. Yes.

EJ: There she is.

Anna: Oh. We were just about to get into our jammies. [Chuckles] Go see Daddy.

EJ: Oh, my sweetheart.

Anna: Mm-hmm.

EJ: Oh, there you go. I missed you. I missed you. Congratulations are in order.

Anna: Ooh, so things are finally coming together, huh?

EJ: Yeah. The stage is finally set. It was a little painful getting there, but now we are gonna set up a stable life for you and your brother, where you will be able to thrive. How does that sound? That sounds pretty good, doesn't it? Hmm, sweetheart?

Philip: Did you know about this... about the connection between Melanie and Carly, that they were mother and daughter?

Victor: [Sighs] Philip, whatever Vivian may or may not have done tonight, she acted alone. Now, I admit that I initially didn't approve of Melanie... but I think I've proven in the last few weeks that I've grown genuinely fond of the girl.

Philip: But I also know how you feel about Carly.

Victor: How I feel about Carly is not relevant. I have been praying for Melanie's recovery... and for my son and his new bride to have a long and happy life.

Philip: [Sighs]

Victor: I really mean that, Philip.

Philip: I know you do.

Bo: Nothing at all on the comb? What about the basement? No, no. Forget it. No, I'll take care of it.

Vivian: More questions that I won't answer?

Bo: You're free to go.

Vivian: Oh. Well... look at that depressed face... his furrowed brow, clenched jaw.

Bo: Don't get too comfortable.

Vivian: Oh, don't you either, now that you've let the black widow into your house. Now, if two bodies won't convince you, you know, the third's a charm.

[Footsteps departing]

Carly: Get away from me.

Lawrence: Can you believe how perfect this is? You killed me to protect your precious Melanie, and look where it's gotten you.

Carly: Go away!

Lawrence: Do yourself a favor. Next time you want to protect the ones you love, turn the gun on yourself.

Philip: Oh, finally. Is she okay? Is she out of surgery?

Lexie: Yes, she is.

Daniel: And we got her heart beating again.

Philip: Oh, thank God.

Daniel: But she lost a lot of blood, so she's still very weak.

Philip: Can I see her?

Daniel: Yeah, once she's out of recovery. But just Philip... and, uh, only for five minutes, okay?

Philip: Okay.

[Cell phone ringing]

Victor: Hello? What? [Sighs] I will. Thank you. Well, it seems that Vivian has been released for lack of evidence.

Kate: Lack of evidence?

Victor: Sound familiar?

Kate: You're protecting her. She hurt our son, stole our son, almost ruined his life. Why the hell would you want to protect her?

Vivian: Lawrence... my darling... I did this all for you. May you rest in peace.

Bo: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry that took so long.

Carly: It's okay.

Bo: Ah, let me get these cuffs off you.

[Handcuffs click, jingle]

Bo: I got to take you down to your cell.

Carly: If Melanie dies, Bo, I hope they give me the death sentence, because I couldn't live with myself.

Bo: Whatever happens... I'm gonna be there to remind you that everything you have done, coming here to Salem, going up on that roof--everything you've done has been to protect your daughter. And, yeah... she's had a difficult life. But when she recovers... things are gonna be very, very different for her, because she's finally gonna know a mother's love.

Carly: [Sighs]

[Monitor beeping]

Philip: We didn't get to have our first dance yet... but we will... [Sniffles] Because I know you're too feisty... too strong-willed to let anyone take that away from us. That's what I love about you... and always will.

[Beeping continues]

Carly: Melanie, my sweet, sweet little girl, please, please know that I love you, and I have always loved you from the moment that you were born. [Sighs]

[Monitor beeping]

Lucas: I'm so sorry, Sami. I'm so sorry.

Sami: [Sobbing] What do we do? I mean, Allie, just yesterday she was asking me where her-- where her baby is. She calls Sydney her baby.

Lucas: I know, I know, I know.

Sami: How do we tell her? How do we tell her again she's lost her s-sister?

Lucas: Don't worry about it, okay? She's sleeping now. We'll--we'll figure something out tomorrow. I want you to know that I'm here for you.

Sami: [Sighs]

Lucas: All right? In any way, I'm here for you.

Sami: I know. [Sniffles]

Lucas: Who's he calling?

Sami: [Sighs] I don't know. I don't know. He--he's doing this FBI thing, and he just can't stop, not even to grieve.

Rafe: Well, have the river dragged, then. Do whatever it takes.

Sami: I can't... I can't stay here, not with him.

[Door slams]

[Door opens, closes]

Anna: You let everyone think this sweet little girl is dead?

EJ: I wouldn't be so appalled if I were you, Anna. She did exactly the same thing to me with Grace.

Anna: What? How is that the same? Grace actually died, EJ.

EJ: She wasn't mine. I mourned a child that wasn't mine.

Anna: So you're paying Sami back like this? My God, isn't it enough that her daughter is missing?

EJ: Don't you dare scold me, Anna.

Anna: EJ, I'm a mother, and I know Sami has done some hateful things, but to lose another child--

EJ: Now you listen to me. You listen very--you listen very carefully, okay? I want to make something very clear to you. This little girl and her brother are far better off with me than they will ever be with Samantha, all right? I have a new life with them, a new life. We're gonna disappear... and we're gonna do that right now. Sweetheart.
