Carly: I hope you like these. I'm not a very good cook anymore, so...
Philip: Oh, they look great. I'm gonna go see if I can give Bo a hand. And by that, I mean stopping him from broiling the hell out of those steaks. [Chuckles]
Carly: This is weird, isn't it?
Melanie: Kind of.
Carly: Maybe I shouldn't have pushed this. I have a tendency to be... pushy. Maybe you need more time to absorb everything before we start having dinner parties?
Melanie: It's a little weird, but it's not bad. You're my mom. And you're in my life and that's--that's good, right?
Carly: You have no idea what that means to me... to hear you call me Mom. I-I don't think I've ever been this happy.
Vivian: Payback's a bitch.
Carly: [Sobbing] No! No...no. No...no!
Carly: Bo's not here.
Justin: I'm not looking for Bo. I want to talk with you.
Philip: [Clears throat]
Philip: I can come back.
Victor: Done. Something wrong?
Philip: Well, I was hoping we could talk about, uh...
Philip: How did you know?
Victor: Well, people often get that bilious look on their face when they're about to talk about Vivian. What do you want to know?
Philip: Are you in love with her?
Philip: Father? Father...Father.
Vivian: What are you saying?
Gus: That the forensic team was able to get more from the damaged medical records. They got the date of birth.
Gus: It's the same as Melanie Layton's. She's Dr. Manning's daughter.
Melanie: What were you just talking to someone on the phone about me? What's going on?
Vivian: [Laughs] I just...wish you hadn't heard that.
Rafe: Well, I warned you what would happen if you went outside the system, like you did. And look what happened-- it was a total disaster.
Sami: Not because of what EJ and I did!
Rafe: It's exactly because of what you and EJ did!
Sami: You know what, you don't always know what's best! I know you think you do, and a lot of the times you're right, but you're not always right! You're just an FBI agent! You are not God! You're not psychic, and you're not even Sydney's father!
Stefano: Well... this... this is very interesting. Why do you have a medicine bottle... for an infant? Hmm? I mean...what is really going on here?
Melanie: Why were you talking about me?
Vivian: Uh... [Laughs] It's a surprise.
Melanie: For me?
Vivian: Yes. I think it's gonna be one of the biggest surprises of your life.
Melanie: Then why do you look so freaked out?
Vivian: Well... well, look at your necklace. I think it's come undone. Let me fix it.
Melanie: I don't--I don’t think that it's come undone.
Vivian: Oh...let me fix it for you.
Roman: There isn't any way around it. You gotta go back to prison. Tonight.
Brady: There's gotta be something we can do.
Roman: I wish there was. But there's nothing I can do. People way higher up than me are making this decision.
Brady: Roman, Roman, this is not right. You know this isn't right.
Brady: No, no, she's out there, she's risking her life and you're gonna tell me some jerk behind a desk is gonna decide that she didn't live up to her end of the bargain?
Roman: Arianna... did you know what could happen? Was it spelled out for you?
Roman: And have I been straight with you all along?
Arianna: Yes. He has.
Roman: I am so sorry. I am so sorry. You know I didn't want it to come to this.
Rafe: I just came by to tell you... there's no new news about Sydney.
Rafe: I-I'm sorry there isn't more.
Sami: I'm glad you're here because, um... because I want you to know I feel terrible about what I said to you. It was a horrible thing to say.
Rafe: Eh, it's the truth. Sydney's not my kid.
Sami: But that doesn't matter. I mean, it doesn't matter to me, because you... 'cause you've been there for me. I mean, I wouldn't even know that Sydney was my daughter if it weren't for you.
Rafe: Doesn't change the facts.
Sami: The facts aren't as important as how much you love her. And--and how much you've been there for me and... and I'm really sorry, because I was just angry, and I was upset and I... and I lashed out at you and I-- and I was wrong.
Rafe: I-I think you just told me what's in your heart.
Rafe: You know, Sami, I'm not really even a part of this anymore. You and EJ are Sydney's parents, and I'm... well, I'm a consultant.
Rafe: I can make suggestions, but I can't make decisions. Y-you don't trust me.
Sami: That's not true. Rafe, that's not true. I trust you. I-I trust you with my whole heart. I really do.
Rafe: No, I think that you want to, I do. I really do, I just... I think deep down you don't.
Brady: So let me get this straight for a second. Whoever it is who's making millions of dollars in this town moving drugs--he's still out there, but she is going to prison--is that true?
Roman: Brady, I don't like it any better than you do.
Brady: Roman, you used her. You used her, and when things didn't turn out the way you planned them, you made her the scapegoat.
Roman: Wait a minute--whoa! You just hang on right there. You listen to me, okay? First of all, Arianna knows I would never do that to her. Secondly, you are in a police station. Don't do anything stupid. I get that you are upset. I get that you're mad. But believe it or not, this situation could get worse for both of you--understand that? Do you understand that?
Arianna: Do you know where I'm going?
Arianna: I'm gonna be locked up with Nicole.
Sami: Hey, hey, know we're upset, but don't get crazy on me. I trust you! I trust you with my life. I trust you with my kids' lives.
Rafe: But you didn't. Not this time, not with the pertinent information.
Sami: I-I was scared...
Rafe: Yea those ransom letters, they were the best shot the bureau had at getting Sydney.
Sami: Don't you see that they... because I knew you would tell the agency. I knew you would tell them.
Rafe: Maybe if you had told me, we'd have Sydney back right now, but instead we gotta do it the DiMera way, and with the DiMera way, who the hell knows what's gonna happen? But, you know, you trust him more than you trust me. What can I do about that? There's nothing I can do about that. You and I don’t have a kid together.
Sami: No, I hear you.
Rafe: Well, I'm sorry, I--
Sami: If we don't get Sydney back, it's my fault.
Rafe: No, it's not, Sami--
Sami: I know that! You think I don't know that?
[Knocking on door]
Rafe: I didn't-
Sami: No, I-- oh.
Gabi: Look, I'm sorry, is-- Rafe, I really have to talk to you.
Rafe: Yeah, Gabi, it's not really a good time right now.
Gabi: Rafe, it's important. I really need to talk to you.
Sami: Uh, come in, please. Just...I'll go in the other room.
Rafe: [Sighs] What? What is it?
Gabi: Rafe, it's awful. Arianna--
Gabi: That creepy guy Troy attacked her.
Rafe: I'll kill him. Is she okay?
Gabi: No! She's going back to prison, tonight.
Rafe: She's not going back to prison.
Sami: Look, I'm sorry, I forgot my-- that's fine. That's just great.
EJ: What a surprise. My father...likes to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Stefano: This is not a molehill. This is about Sydney, isn't it? You know where she is.
EJ: If I knew where Sydney was, I would be with my daughter and not wasting my time with you.
Stefano: Look, don't give me any of your condescending stuff, all right? What the hell is going on here? I mean, what kind of a game are you playing?
EJ: This isn't a game. That...is none of your business.
Stefano: [Chuckling] Ah.... I'm afraid you're very wrong about that, Elvis.
EJ: [Laughs, whispers]
Melanie: Vivian, it didn't come undone, it's fine.
Vivian: Yes. You're right. It's fine. Everything's...fine.
Melanie: You have a very weird look on your face right now.
Vivian: Ah...we yes, well... there's something that I want to tell you. It's, um... I'm, uh... I'm a little emotional.
Melanie: [Softly] No!
Vivian: Well, I know that I look like someone who's, on the surface, in charge, buttoned-down. But inside... there's a maelstrom. You see... I hear about Philip getting married...
Melanie: Uh-huh. To someone who's not good enough for him?
Vivian: No, no, no, no, no! No, it's amazing how special I find you. You have absolutely charmed me.
Melanie: Oh. Well, good...'cause for a second there, it looked like you wanted to kill me or something!
Vivian: Not you, honey.
Vivian: Not you, honey.
Melanie: Good to know.
Justin: You seem to have settled in here quite nicely.
Carly: [Clears throat] You do know that I was married to Lawrence Alamain for many years. Judgmental sarcasm rolls right off back now.
Justin: Oh. Well, then I'll be more direct.
Justin: This isn't right.
Carly: Not that this is any of your business, but I don't live here, okay? I'm at the Salem Inn.
Justin: Oh. So you agree... this isn't right.
Carly: I never said that.
Justin: You didn't have to. You came back at me with a technicality. Look, it doesn't matter who gets your rent check. The fact is, you have moved part and parcel back into Bo's life.
Carly: Justin...there was a vacancy. Talk to your friend Hope about that.
Justin: Oh, you see, that justification actually doesn't fly anymore. Because you came back to Salem to bag Bo. That information is now out.
Carly: Justin, I--
Justin: Look, you knew what you wanted, and you didn't give a damn about what happened to anybody. You know, most mistresses can actually try to just cover things up for a little while before they...you know, out of respect for the wife.
Carly: Oh! Forgive me. I had no idea I was talking to the, um, voluntary moral police. What do you do, go door-to-door just setting us sinners straight?
Justin: This isn't about morality. This is about common human decency. Bo has a wife and a daughter, and no matter what you two did, couldn't you have just kept a lid on it?
Carly: Justin, Hope is the one who figured it out, all right? She's the reason that everyone Bo knows and loves heard about this!
Justin: Because you were at Maggie Horton's house when everyone was gathered there to grieve for Mickey.
Carly: Justin, I didn't know!
Justin: You knew he died. You knew everyone would be there.
Carly: Not Hope!
Justin: You didn't have any reason to be there, did you? None whatsoever.
Melanie: Both of my parents are dead. Best thing that could ever happen to me.
Justin: You give me one good reason why you went to that house, and this whole conversation is over.
Carly: I went to offer my condolences.
Justin: Right. Bo...leaves your bed... to go to a grieving Hope, and the next thing on your to-do list is to offer condolences.
Carly: Stop. Stop right there.
Justin: You know, you were never a pushover, but at least. You had a heart and some compassion.
Carly: Get out, now!
Justin: You know, you always keep talking about how bad Lawrence was, but I'm beginning to think that maybe living with you had something to do with it.
Philip: Should I call Dr. Mackey?
Victor: [Laughing] No! My God! Do I love Vivian? [Laughing]
Victor: I haven't laughed so hard since Kate's wedding.
Philip: You scared the hell outta me, come on!
Victor: Have I been walking around with a tin foil hat on my head? Do you think I'm non compos mentis?
Philip: Well, you said that you two are in love. You spend all your time together and, you know...
Victor: We are in love... in Vivian land, which is way, way over the rainbow.
Philip: [Exhales] That's good.
Victor: You must have really thought I'd lost it.
Philip: Well, she has tried to kill people, and I know attractive you find that in women.
Victor: Yes, well, it just proves that they're not passive. [Both laughing] So did you come over here to check on my love life, or do you want to find out how honest I can be about Vivian?
Philip: Uh, the last one.
Victor: So...what has she done now?
Philip: Well, she said... that you and her were going to accompany me and Melanie on my honeymoon.
Victor: Oh. And you have a problem with that? Think of the bridge games!
Philip: You're hilarious. You are hilarious.
Victor: I will make it very clear to Vivian that we will not be accompanying you on your honeymoon. But she's going to be very disappointed. Melanie, I mean.
Philip: Hmm. Thank you.
Philip: And I'm happy that I can amuse you.
Victor: Philip, you gotta lighten up. You're getting married. For God's sake, you don't have to worry about Vivian.
Justin: Well... I'll say this much for you. You've kept in shape.
Carly: You do not make jokes! Lawrence Alamain was a sick, depraved man, and I am to blame for any number of things, but not that. You do not get to say that to me again--do you understand?
Justin: [Quietly] Fine. Then let's look at it another way. Maybe--just maybe--dealing with him has changed you. Maybe you didn't notice when you...self-preservation took over and turned you into this new and improved Carly who only thinks of herself 24/7.
Carly: You're right. You're right. I wish that I could be as noble and selfless as you. [Laughs] You know, I really did live in a country that had moral police. The one sin that didn't bother them was hypocrisy. Now, for me personally, I think hypocrites are disgusting... you know, always pointing their fingers at other people but never really taking a good look inside themselves.
Justin: [Chuckles] You couldn't...possibly be referring to me, could you?
Carly: All your glib charm doesn't fool me, Justin. And as for your concern for Hope, you were just coiled up in a corner, just waiting for that moment that she needs comforting. You know, that special kind of comfort that only a certain kind of guy can give? Adrienne must be so proud to be married to such a decent... caring... jerk.
Arianna: How do you think it's gonna feel to have two girlfriends in the same prison?
Brady: You are not going to prison.
Arianna: Roman seems to think I am.
Rafe: Well, then someone needs to set Roman straight.
Stefano: Elvis... Sydney is all that matters, hmm? Look... what do we do anytime anyone in the family gets into trouble? We close ranks, no?
EJ: That's not what you do. Is it? Not with me, anyway. You close ranks with Nicole, and decide you're gonna keep my daughter from me.
Stefano: I was looking after you, whether you believe that or not, because you were not thinking straight.
EJ: Oh, you were making my decisions for me...right?
Stefano: No, I decided that your daughter would be here with you instead of Samantha.
EJ: You decided that you were gonna run my life. Well, not anymore. Okay? 'Cause now, see... I don't trust you anymore.
Stefano: You don't trust me, huh?
EJ: Ahh... no.
Stefano: Hmm. Well, I think you should. Or...I will go to Roman Brady and tell him about this... bottle of infant medicine.
EJ: You'd do that?
Stefano: Well, uh... [Laughing] If you don't tell me the truth, hey...
EJ: Okay, fine. It's Johnny's.
Stefano: Oh, come on, please, will you, please? Elvis...it is for an infant.
EJ: Yeah. It's for an infant. But Johnny's been under a lot of stress lately, so... we've had to revert to that to get him his medicine.
Stefano: I don't believe it.
Sami: What's going on?
Melanie: Women are complicated.
Maggie: Hmm. Imagine saying that after talking to Vivian.
Melanie: [Laughs] And she said she came by to see you, but I think she wanted to talk to me, and then she got a little weird...
Maggie: Hmm. Kate...ha. She did a version of the same thing. She came by to offer condolences and then she...she tried to pump me about you.
Melanie: I guess it's better than trying to poison somebody.
Melanie: So I guess Vivian did the same kind of thing?
Maggie: Yeah, I think so. But I told Kate--and I believe this--you are much too smart to be manipulated.
Melanie: Mm-hmm. I know what Kate's doing.
Melanie: But Philip loves her, even though he wishes he didn't. Their relationship they have, it really bothers him.
Maggie: Well, growing up and facing facts...hmm. That can be very difficult.
Melanie: Mm. That's why I don't do it.
Maggie: Honey... don't try to fix things for Kate and Philip... 'cause it won't work, and you could end up getting hurt.
Melanie: I know. Don't worry. Every time I start to think that Kate's actually a good person, I will just close my eyes and picture Chloe in that hospital bed.
Maggie: Mm-hmm. Well, hold that thought.
Melanie: Yeah. That doesn't explain tonight, though. I mean, I can see why Kate's trying to pump you for information about me, but Vivian? She says it's because I'm Philip's fiancée, and she wants to get to know me, but... there's something more to it, and I can't figure out what it is.
Vivian: This is disturbing.
Gus: There can be no doubt. Melanie Layton is Dr. Manning's daughter.
Vivian: Poor child.
Gus: Has Madame forged a personal relationship with the young lady?
Vivian: The young lady's going to marry Philip, and if I destroy her, I think he might be a little upset. [Sighs] Oh... fate can be so cruel. You know, I really thought that Carly's daughter would be someone I'd enjoy eliminating. I remember burying Carly.
Vivian: It was so satisfying at the time...just right.
Gus: Madame. This is not the time to relive the past.
Vivian: Oh, I know. You're right, I have to think of Lawrence and be strong, and... Melanie's just a pawn on the board. And pawns are meant to be sacrificed.
Justin: You know what? If I have feelings for her, I haven't acted on them. And I'm not down on you for having feelings for Bo. It's all the crap that you've pulled because you do.
Carly: I have said it! What more do you want? You're right, you're right!
Justin: What you and Bo have is not real. And what Bo and Hope have is.
Carly: So real that she took his kid and left their house? You can't get around that, Justin. This isn't all my fault.
Justin: You keep telling yourself that. Maybe someday you'll believe it.
Brady: Roman, listen, um... is there something else I can do here, maybe make a call, maybe have my grandfather make a call?
Roman: You mean would a Kiriakis connection work? Would that help? No. Brady, don't go there. Really. Okay?
[Cell phone rings]
Gabi: I'm gonna go try Mom.
Brady: This isn't right. It's not right.
Arianna: I always knew it could happen, so...
Brady: Look, you did all of their work for them, and then they're trying to cover up their own ineptitude, Ari. It's not right.
Arianna: What are you doing?
Brady: I'm doing what I should have done--I'm gonna call my grandfather.
Arianna: No. No, absolutely not.
Rafe: This isn't over. Not over.
Roman: Hey. Hey!
Roman: Did you have any luck?
Sami: What's he all worked up about?
EJ: [Clears throat] My father... found this. He thinks it's Sydney's.
Sami: I wish it were. It's Johnny's.
Stefano: But that is for an infant.
Sami: I know that. It's not your business, but... Johnny choked on a pill last week, and it didn't seem like it was worth making a fight about, so I've been giving him his medicine with infant droppers.
Stefano: I guess I'll have to be.
EJ: I'm sorry about you and Rafe.
Sami: I don't want to talk about it. You haven't heard anything, have you?
EJ: No. No, nothing.
Sami: I mean, I knew you'd tell me, I-- I just don't want to be alone. [Sighs]
Sami: Rafe and I aren't, um... seeing eye-to-eye.
EJ: Yeah. I'm sure he's pretty angry right now. I don't know, Samantha. Maybe we should have told him earlier.
Sami: No! No, you were right. The second the FBI and Rafe got involved, everything went to-- we don't know what's gonna happen. I mean, we don't know if Sydney's okay, we don't know if we're ever gonna hear from those kidnappers again.
EJ: Hey. We will. Okay? We will. Look, uh... I'm not superstitious, and I don't really believe in karma.
EJ: Nothing like that, but... it's really important to me that... that you and I and Sydney are all on the same page. That you and I are working together to get our daughter back.
Sami: Want that too.
EJ: Look, if I can talk to Rafe, I'll take the blame. I really don't mind, but if I can help in any way...
Sami: No. Don't do that.
EJ: Samantha, look... all this waiting, you know, to hear about Sydney, for something to happen, is-is horrible. But if you and Rafe break up because of this, that would be awful.
Arianna: No, you can't call Victor.
Brady: But Ari--he's got powerful connections.
Arianna: And I have got my pride. I'm not gonna go groveling to him, no matter what.
Roman: Arianna, I'm sorry. I've stalled as long as I can. Time to go.
Tim: Ah, I know him.
Rafe: Well, then, you gotta talk to him.
Tim: Why don't you call him yourself?
Rafe: Because I think that the message should be delivered calmly, reasonably--
Rafe: Yeah. I think it's in his best interests that he acknowledge that Arianna gave him Troy and that her end of the bargain is fulfilled.
Tim: Your message sounds a little bit like a threat.
Rafe: [Scoffs] All I'm saying is that, uh...re well, I think that he should spin this case so that it looks like a success. Or I will make it publicly clear that it was a total failure, that an untrained young woman was put in harm's way without any backup and was almost killed and that it was all his idea.
Tim: Now it sounds a lot like a threat.
Rafe: Well... will you do it?
Tim: Rafe, this dude is mean, vindictive, and doesn't think twice about throwing his weight around.
Tim: I can't wait.
Rafe: [Laughs] Tim. Thanks, man.
Tim: Life would be so dull if I didn't know you.
Melanie: [Giggles] So Philip calls it the Mommy wars, where Vivian and Kate are fighting over his affection. You look tired.
Maggie: Whew. Mm. I am. Uh, I think I'm gonna go back up to bed.
Melanie: Okay. You knock on my door, anytime. Middle of the night. Sometimes that's the hardest.
Maggie: Young face, old soul. Thank you for being here.
Melanie: Sleep well.
Maggie: I'll try. I'll try.
[Knocking on door]
Philip: Mm. Hey.
Melanie: Hey. I didn't think I'd see you tonight.
Philip: Yeah, well, I was thinking we could get something to eat.
Melanie: That's so good. But I don't think I can go.
Philip: Oh, you're worried about Maggie.
Philip: [Blows out] Phhhh. Well...
Melanie: You disappointed?
Philip: Not at all. We'll just go to plan "B."
Victor: Vivian, are you all right?
Victor: Well...something momentous must have happened. You're not talking.
Vivian: Amuse yourself all you want, Victor. But once you read this... you won't be laughing for a very, very long time.
Arianna: I'm sorry. [Sniffles] Look, I know I'm asking the impossible. Could you just try not to let Mom worry, okay?
Gabi: Okay. I will. Don't--don't worry about us, okay?
Arianna: Thank you, sweetie.
Arianna: Okay. [Sniffles] I'm sorry, Brady.
Brady: No, no, no, don't be. Stop, stop, look at me. Hey. I'm not giving up.
Officer: Ma'am. This way.
Roman: Hold on, Mike. Take her cuffs off.
Roman: I just got a phone call from an angry DEA agent. Seems you have been issued a stay...pending further investigation.
Gabi: Oh, my God.
Arianna: Oh, Roman! Thank you, thank you, Roman!
Roman: You don't have to thank me.
Brady: What--what happened? What's going on?
Roman: Well, I think Rafe happened. Whatever he did, I think it worked.
Arianna: [Laughs] Oh, my God. [Laughter] Oh, thank God.
Vivian: Read it and weep.
Victor: Oh, my God.
Vivian: That's right. Mia is not Carly's daughter. Melanie Layton is, and that's the girl who Philip's going to marry.
Melanie: Now...a year ago, if you would have told me that a handsome, rich man was offering to buy me an expensive dinner, and I said, "No, I would much rather have leftovers in a kitchen," I never would have believed you.
Philip: [Laughs] That's because you didn't have a home then. And people you cared about. But you do now, and you always will.
Melanie: Philip, I'm worried about Maggie.
Philip: I know you are.
Melanie: It's amazing. As sad as she is, she still sat there and...listened to me talk it about Vivian.
Philip: Vivian? Why?
Melanie: She was here earlier.
Philip: Here. Right here?
Melanie: Yeah. She said she was coming to offer her condolences to Maggie, but I think she was just trying to get information about me.
Philip: Damn it! I told her to lay off.
Melanie: She can't. She's too curious. She's so interested in me and my family and my background. I can't figure out why.
Victor: Vivian, I want you to think long and hard about what happened to Kate.
Vivian: Kate hurt my godson. And therefore, she was banished. Imagine how I would feel if you did anything--anything at all to hurt Philip.
Vivian: Oh, Victor, you don't have to make threats, even though you enjoy it.
Victor: I don't.
Vivian: I like Melanie. Oh! Everything was so much I simpler. I used to go to bed, fall asleep, think about...telling her. Telling Carly how I had destroyed her daughter. Ah.. now I have to rethink.
Justin: I know you don't want to, but you're gonna end up thinking about what I said to you tonight. You didn't used to hurt people.
Carly: You didn't used to be so self-righteous. Why don't you tell Hope that you told me off real good. Maybe she'll let you comfort her.
Justin: [Scoffs] I just don't understand why you came back.
Carly: No one can know why I'm back. No one can know about Melanie.
Vivian: If I promise not to? Kill Melanie, could I tell Carly that I did anyway?
Vivian: W-why? It's not going to hurt Philip, and then she'll know how I felt about Lawrence's death.
Victor: Vivian, how did burying Carly alive work out for you?
Vivian: You're so mean. I must admit, I am... disappointed. After I found out Carly had a daughter, all sorts of possibilities opened up. [Sighs] Now I'm back to square one-- kill Carly. So anticlimactic.
EJ: Samantha... we will get her back. I promise you.
Sami: Just keep telling me that.
Stefano: What are you really up to, son of mine?
Justin: I hope Bo realizes what he's letting himself in for.
Vivian: It's time to bury you again.
EJ: I will bring Sydney back. I promise you that.
