Roman: We found a huge stash of cocaine in Troy's car. He's going away for a long time.
Arianna: So do you think this is gonna get me off the hook?
Roman: Can't talk about that now, okay?
Arianna: Okay. Okay.
Troy: Oh, my God. You're a narc. You're a damn narc! She's a narc. Do you hear me? She's a narc. A narc!
Bo: Oh. Oh.
Hope: Oh, no.
Bo: I'm sorry. It's my fault. It'll...
Maggie: Oh, I'm sorry, Linda. I-I meant to come in, but something--it came up. And--and I know the restaurant isn't very busy early in the week. Yes, yeah, every--everything is fine. Mm. And I'll call you later. Thanks. [Crying]
[Knock at door]
Carly: I'm so sorry I didn't call. If this isn't a good time, I-I...
Maggie: No, it's all right. Come on in.
Carly: You're here by yourself?
Maggie: At the moment. Why do you ask?
Carly: Well, the--the young ladies who live here aren't exactly fans of mine. And Melanie and I have had some run-ins recently, so...
Maggie: Run-ins? Why? I-I mean, are you having a problem with her?
Vivian: Keep digging, Gus. I need to know if Melanie Layton is Carly Manning's daughter right away.
Gus: I'll call as soon as I hear anything.
Vivian: Good. I'll see what I can find out on my own. [Gasps] Oh. Lovebirds are at it again.
Philip: [Sighs] Melanie and I were just leaving.
Vivian: No, no, no. Don't leave. Oh, I'm still fretting about what happened earlier. Did you tell Philip?
Melanie: How Carly spilled coffee on my wedding dress? Yeah, I told him the story.
Vivian: Oh, it's a shame that woman had to show up. We were having the loveliest afternoon.
Melanie: I was telling Philip how much I was enjoying your company.
Vivian: Oh, oh, me too, darling. I just think you're so adorable. Well, while we're waiting for that wedding dress to show up, maybe we could hammer out the rest of your wedding plans.
Philip: Melanie, we really should get going if--
Vivian: For instance, the guest list. How many of your people are coming?
Melanie: My people?
Vivian: Yes, you know, your family, your parents. Sort of--I'm sure you come from very interesting stock. I want to hear all about it. Hmm?
Stefano: Ungrateful swine. [Groans] Egotistical Judas.
Kate: Hey, what's going on? What are you yelling about?
Stefano: I knew it. I knew it. I knew it. I knew it. I knew it! I knew that Elvis was up to something. Selling off his DiMera stocks at a loss so that he could extricate himself from this family and forge a new identity for himself. What a joke!
Kate: So you don't think that's the reason.
Stefano: Well, of course it was not the reason. Katherine, he lied to me, right to my face.
Kate: And you're surprised by that?
Stefano: Why? You don't--I mean, what-- you really are cynical.
Kate: And so should you be... when it comes to EJ.
Stefano: Oh, wonderful. Make me feel worse.
Kate: Darling, I'm just trying to make you see the truth. You don't know the real EJ. I don't think anyone does anymore.
Troy: You two-faced--
Roman: That's it!
Troy: You were undercover the whole time. Do you hear what I'm saying, man? Do you hear me? She's a narc! She's a narc.
Stefano: That's nonsense. Of course I know my own son.
Kate: Stefano, he's changed. He's--
Stefano: Look, I don't want to hear this, all right? He is my flesh and blood.
Kate: Okay, fine. Then--then what's happened? What's going on?
Stefano: [Sighs] Elvis received a ransom note from Sydney's kidnapper.
Stefano: And that's why he was liquidating his assets, so he could come up with the money to pay off that rat bastard.
Kate: Okay. So did--what--what happened? Did they--did they make the exchange? Did they get Sydney back?
Stefano: No, no. My sources tell me that the, uh, plan went awry. Then the FBI got involved, so the kidnapper did not show. So our sweet little Sydney is still missing.
Kate: I'm sorry.
Stefano: If only Elvis had told me what was going on, I could've helped.
Stefano: And Sydney would be sitting here right now with us.
Kate: No, she wouldn't, because EJ has said it over and over again--he will not let his daughter be part of your life.
Stefano: I don't give a damn how many times he says it until he's blue in the face, all right? 'Cause it doesn't mean a damn thing.
Kate: You're sure of that?
Stefano: Katherine, in my heart, all right, I know that if Sydney is returned safe and sound, then it is very possible that Elvis and I can make amends.
Kate: Oh, my God, Stefano.
Stefano: All right, don't patronize me.
Kate: I'm trying to be supportive.
Stefano: Oh, right. Ha ha. By depressing me?
Kate: Would you prefer that I allow you to delude yourself?
Stefano: I don't know what I want you to do.
Kate: I am not trying to depress you. I'm trying to prepare you. EJ is not the type to forgive and forget. You are going to have to learn to live with the consequences of your actions, just as I must and just as EJ must.
Troy: Let go of me! Let go of me! That lying whore's a narc! What, am I blowing your cover? Good! You are dead, you hear me? Dead!
Brady: You want to explain to me what just happened there?
EJ: I don't know.
Brady: You don't know? Troy ran straight to you with his crazy accusations. Why? Why was he so intent on telling you?
Bo: I'm sorry.
Hope: It's all right.
Bo: No, I--
Hope: No, it's all right. I'll... I'll just buy another one. It's for Ciara. I, um--she'd heard so much about our boat that I... never mind. Doesn't matter. You know what? I, um, was just about to leave, but I've decided that I'm not going to, because I need some answers. How could you do it? How could you lie to me?
Melanie: My family?
Vivian: Uh, sorry, I-I didn't mean to pry.
Philip: Mel, we really should get going if we're gonna make that movie.
Melanie: We'll go to the next show.
Philip: No, I want to go to this one--this one.
Melanie: Okay, hold on one second. Why are you being a butthead?
Philip: Why am I being a butthead? Why am I being a butthead? I'll tell you why I'm being a butthead. You know how I feel about this woman.
Melanie: Yeah, okay, she's eccentric, and she does some weird things. But let's give her a chance. Let's give her the benefit of the doubt for my sake, please.
Philip: Okay, okay. Sure.
Melanie: I love you.
Philip: I love you too.
Melanie: Okay, um, my family... I was kind of hoping that my brother would fly back from London, but he's in medical school, so his schedule is--
Vivian: Oh, very busy. Well, that's a shame. But then, of course, there are always your parents, right?
Melanie: My dad died over a year ago.
Vivian: Oh, that's tragic. Your mother must be devastated.
Melanie: My mom's dead too.
Vivian: Oops. Well, what--what happened to her?
Philip: Okay, that's it. Game over.
Vivian: Ga--game over? What? Over what?
Philip: You want to help with the wedding, that's fine. But the questions got to stop. Melanie's past is none of your business.
Carly: Well, you know, Melanie and I got off on the wrong foot.
Maggie: Yeah. Um, yeah, when--when you were gonna move in here. But I didn't know the two of you were still having problems.
Carly: Well, getting into it with Hope didn't help... which is why I'm here. I wanted to apologize. I hate that I caused a scene, especially given the circumstances.
Maggie: Don't worry about it.
Carly: No, I worry, because you just lost your husband, and it was beyond disrespectful, and I'm ashamed that it happened at all--
Maggie: You know what? Thank--I need to get some rest. Thank you for coming by.
Carly: Yes, of course. I'm sorry. And I-I-I--my heart goes out to you. And if you ever need to talk about anything...
Mia: She doesn't... not to you, anyway. So just go... now.
EJ: I'm a little confused by your question, Brady.
Brady: I thought it was pretty direct. I'll make it even more so. Why did Troy look right at you like he knew you?
EJ: Well, he didn't just look at me. He looked at you. He looked at everybody. I mean, he was lying, wasn't he, Arianna?
Arianna: Of course. Thank you for helping. I don't know why Troy went off like that.
Roman: Well, just trying to stir up trouble. Telling everybody he can find out there about his revelation.
Arianna: Now everyone thinks that I'm a narc?
Roman: Don't worry about it. Nobody's listening, okay?
Roman: EJ, how about we, uh, get your statement? No reason for you to hang around here all night.
EJ: Sure. I'm ready.
Officer: Commander, we need your help down in holding.
Roman: I'll be right there. Uh, why don't you wait in the, uh, interrogation room?
EJ: Will do.
Arianna: Um, just--I can't thank you enough. I mean, if--if you hadn't shown up tonight...
Brady: Yeah, yeah, you know what? Why--why did you show up?
EJ: Unbelievable. I save your girlfriend's life, and you act like I commit some kind of crime.
Brady: Oh, EJ, just answer the simple question.
EJ: Okay. I thought she'd want to be there for Rafe.
Arianna: What happened?
EJ: Samantha and I--we, uh-- we received a ransom note from the kidnappers.
EJ: Unfortunately, the drop-off didn't quite go as planned, so we have no idea where Sydney is, and everyone's taking it pretty hard, including Rafe. He's, uh--well, he's blaming himself.
Arianna: Oh, my God. I'm sorry.
EJ: You should give him a call, okay? Have any more questions, Brady? Good.
Arianna: Wait, look, um, I have no idea why Troy...
EJ: It's--hey, it's fine. We all have our secrets, don't we?
Anna: Well, Sydney, I hope you like your humble abode. From what your daddy says, we're gonna be stuck here for a while. [Chuckles] Mm. Oh, dear, you're burning up.
Anna: I know. I know, I know. I know.
Stefano: Is that what you did, Katarina, huh? When your sons turned their backs on you, you just gave up hope?
Kate: Okay, this is different.
Stefano: How? How? Because your sons are different than mine?
Stefano: Why? Softer, gentler, what?
Kate: No. That's not what I said.
Stefano: Look, let me remind you of something, will you, please? Both Philip and Lucas swore that they would never forgive you for what happened to Chloe. Hmm? Now all of a sudden--I don't know why--after a few months-- but Philip invites you to his wedding.
Kate: Okay, I admit I've made inroads with Philip and Lucas. But...
Stefano: What? Say it.
Kate: Well, I believe that my sons are of a more forgiving nature than EJ.
Stefano: Ah. Which is a euphemistic way of saying that my son is pig.
Kate: Oh, Stefano, please. Come on.
Stefano: Look, I'll admit one thing... Elvis did not show the proper respect when he found out... the whole thing about Nicole, okay? But... I know that we have a special bond between us, hmm? And it will never be broken. Understand?
Roman: Thanks for your cooperation, EJ.
[Cell phone rings]
EJ: You're welcome, anytime. Hello?
Anna: EJ, I--
EJ: Listen, I got to call you back, okay?
Roman: So much for our undercover operation.
Arianna: So what now?
Roman: Well, whether anybody believed him or not, people will be suspicious. Operation's over.
Brady: What does that mean for her?
Arianna: I didn't complete my assignment. Troy is not the head of the cartel. He's still out there, which means I go back to prison. Isn't that right?
Vivian: Oh, I hope I'm not being insensitive.
Melanie: It's okay.
Philip: No, it's not. Ca--Can't you see you're making Melanie uncomfortable?
Vivian: I'm sorry, darling. I didn't mean to dredge up painful memories. I just wanted to know more about you.
Melanie: I understand.
Vivian: I hope I'm not presuming, but I'd like to suggest that it would be better if you talked about your mother's death.
Philip: You are presuming, Vivian.
Vivian: Philip, it is not healthy to keep painful memories inside.
Victor: What's going on?
Philip: Oh, Katie Couric over here is interrogating my fiancée.
Vivian: I am not interrogating anyone. I was simply trying to draw the girl out, that's all.
Victor: Anybody want a drink?
Melanie: Uh, you know what? I just remembered Mia's at study group, and I don't want Maggie to be alone for too long.
Philip: Well, I'm your ride, so I'll drive you.
Vivian: I'm sorry. I hope I didn't frighten you away.
Melanie: It's okay. I understand. And thank you for helping me with the wedding. I really--I appreciate everything.
Philip: Let's go.
Victor: So you're doing your drawing-out thing, are you?
Vivian: Well, it's--it's like pulling teeth. Every time I mention her family, she clams up.
Victor: Well, maybe it's because her father used to pimp out his own daughter whenever money was scarce and ended up with a knife in his back.
Vivian: A knife in his back?
Victor: Yes, he was stabbed to death.
Vivian: He met the same fate as my darling Lawrence.
Victor: And that's pertinent how?
Vivian: It's highly pertinent, Victor. I'm beginning to think that Carly Manning and Melanie Layton have quite a connection.
Maggie: Mia, please.
Mia: She shouldn't be here.
Carly: I only came to apologize.
Mia: Yeah, well, it's a little late for that. You've caused enough problems.
Maggie: Mia, stop it! Now, look, I appreciate your concern, but this is my house. And you won't throw anyone out of it, understand?
Mia: Yeah. Yeah, I'm--I'm sorry.
Maggie: So what are you doing back here so soon? I thought you had a study group?
Mia: I do, but I left my science book.
Maggie: Here. Get going.
Maggie: Carly is leaving, and I'm going to go rest.
Mia: Okay. I'll be back later.
Mia: And you better not be here.
Maggie: I'm sorry she was rude to you.
Carly: It's okay. I'm getting used to it.
Maggie: Well, I'll talk to her later. But I really do need to go and rest.
Maggie: [Crying] Oh.
Victor: Carly and Melanie. I didn't even know she knew the girl.
Vivian: Well, I think they've talked at times, but it's-- it was always contentious. That notwithstanding, Carly's demeanor around Melanie is almost sort of like a... a lioness protecting her cub. I wouldn't be surprised if Melanie was Carly's daughter. Well, isn't that a fascinating possibility?
Victor: It's not remotely fascinating. In fact, it's very tiresome and a colossal waste of my time.
Vivian: Well, I thought you might find it quite interesting.
Victor: Quite interesting? First you think that Mia McCormick is her daughter. Then all of a sudden, you don't think her daughter's in Salem at all. Now it's Melanie. Who's next, Lexie Carver?
Vivian: Well, these things take time.
Victor: Vivian, I know you've got your black little heart set on torturing Carly. But I am getting sick to death of all the speculation and the procrastination. I want that witch gone now!
Vivian: [Sighs] Look, it will be done, I promise you, soon.
Victor: No. Soon is not good enough. I'm going to be doing this on my own, so I won't need you around here anymore, will I?
EJ: Harold? Anyone? [Sighs] Hey, what's going on?
Anna: Sydney's fever-- it's worse. Did you pick up her medicine?
EJ: Uh, no, not yet. But, uh, I'll pick some up. I'll be over later, okay?
Anna: Hey, is everything okay with you? You sounded very stressed before.
EJ: Nothing, I just received some unexpected news. Nothing serious, okay? Um, give Sydney a kiss for me, will you? I'll be over soon. Bye.
Bo: I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Carly's intentions.
Hope: That's not the lie I'm talking about. I can buy that Carly never stopped loving you, was hell-bent on winning you back... which she did. But this little plan of hers to come back to Salem and seduce you was not the secret you two were so desperate to keep. That I know. It was something more dire. Am I right?
Bo: I've already told you everything that I can.
Hope: I see. Okay. So, um, this secret, um, is why our marriage ended, and you still don't have the decency to tell me what it is?
Bo: It's not.
Hope: It's not what?
Bo: The secret didn't end our marriage. You did.
Carly: Mia. Glad I ran into you.
Mia: Why? We have nothing more to say.
Carly: Actually, we do.
Vivian: You won't need me around? That's a cruel thing to say.
Victor: Oh, here come the phony tears.
Vivian: I thought we were connecting.
Victor: Well, you thought wrong. I want results, damn it!
Vivian: If I could just interrogate Mia and Melanie without being interrupted, I could-- I've got it.
Victor: Now what are you doing?
Vivian: I know how to get the truth out of those two, and they won't even see it coming.
Roman: No news on your status yet. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.
Arianna: Thank you.
Brady: Hey. Try not to worry, okay? It'll be all right.
Arianna: Well, that's impossible... because even if I do get released, I still have a very huge problem.
Brady: What problem?
Arianna: Troy's boss is gonna know that I was working for the police. It's only a matter of time before he comes after me.
Stefano: [Sighs] [Coughs] Listen... why don't you let me help you, hmm? I heard about the ransom. My men would find Sydney much faster. She'd be home by now. Look, I'm sorry if I hurt you, but I did what I thought was best.
EJ: Wait. I'm sorry too.
Stefano: You're, uh... sorry?
EJ: Yes. I'm sorry. I'm sorry that you and I are estranged. I'm sorry you found out about Nicole's secret. I'm sorry you decided to betray my trust by not telling me. I'm sorry that I may never see my precious little girl again in large part to your machinations. And I am disgusted that you can stand here and profess your undying love and devotion to me. You have ruined my life. You've spoiled my evening.
Hope: Okay, so we're back to that again, blaming me. Must be easy for you.
Bo: I never meant to hurt you.
Hope: [Chuckles] Tired cliché, Brady.
Bo: No, I mean it.
Hope: Mean it? How could you possibly mean it when you continue to hurt me? When it just goes on...? Carly never stopped loving you. I get that. I get it. But years went by... years, Brady. You two led two completely different lives. So why now? You see, there is another reason she came back to Salem, isn't there? If you're being sincere-- are sincere that you never meant to hurt me, then you would tell me. Okay, I'm, um--I'm going to go buy Ciara another sailboat. If only everything was so easily replaceable. But then again... I was, wasn't I? Like that.
Carly: You know, this is where we first met. Um, you were out here alone and crying.
Mia: What's your point?
Carly: My--my point is, is that I remember reaching out to you, and you were receptive. What changed?
Mia: I guess it was you wanting to move into Maggie's.
Carly: I see. So I-I pushed too hard for something that I probably shouldn't have. I wanted to make a connection. But it's--it's not gonna happen.
Mia: What are you talking about?
Carly: I am so sorry that I bothered you. It won't happen again, Mia. I won't bother you anymore... or Melanie.
Melanie: Bye, Philip. Thanks for the ride. Call you in a little bit. Maggie, what were you doing in the dark?
Maggie: Oh, um, I just walked in. I-I was looking, uh--I thought I left my book down here.
Melanie: Aren't you supposed to be at work right now?
Maggie: Well, I have them so well trained, they--they didn't really need me. Uh, and I think I'm gonna call it a night.
Melanie: How about I make you some of that tea that helps you fall asleep? You go upstairs, and I'll bring it to you.
Maggie: That would be lovely. You really don't have to take care of me, sweetie.
Melanie: Of course I do. Of course I do. You're the closest thing I'll ever have to a mommy.
Kate: Hey. I'm glad I ran into you.
Philip: What's up?
Kate: Well, um, I want to do something nice for Melanie. But I don't want to overstep our newfound truce. So I thought I would ask your permission.
Philip: What did you have in mind?
Kate: I don't know. I thought maybe the two of us could go shopping for a wedding dress.
Philip: Oh, too late. Vivian already found her a dress.
Philip: You can't be that surprised.
Kate: No. No, actually, I'm not surprised that Vivian would want to do that. I'm surprised that you would allow it.
Philip: Well, there's not much I could do about it. Melanie couldn't stand Vivian at first, but somewhere along the way, that changed.
Kate: Well, why did you allow that to change? Vivian is a dangerous, destructive woman. And if you allow her in Melanie's life, you're even more stupid than I thought you were.
[Knock at door]
Melanie: Miss Alamain.
Vivian: Oh, call me Viv. As a matter of fact, call me Mama. May I come in?
Stefano: You smug son of a--
EJ: Be very careful what you say about my mother.
[Cell phone rings]
Troy: Hey, it's--it's me, Troy.
EJ: Why are you calling me?
Troy: I know I messed up. But I-I just want you to know, no matter what happens, I won't give you up, okay? I won't tell anyone who you are.
EJ: Good. You'll be safe as long as you are loyal.
Brady: Hey, listen, no matter what, I will always protect you.
Arianna: You can't always be there.
Brady: Yeah. Yeah, I can.
Arianna: What about tonight? You didn't protect me tonight, did you?
Carly: Congratulate me. In one evening, I think I offended both Maggie and... hey. What happened?
Philip: Even more stupid than you thought, huh?
Kate: Oh, come on. Gee, you know, don't take it the wrong way. I'm just telling you that I am concerned that you're letting her into Melanie's life, that you're letting her into your life. I'm more than worried. I'm hurt.
Kate: I'm hurt. You know what she did to me. You know what she's done to Carly Manning.
Philip: Yeah. I also know what you've done to various people.
Kate: Oh, I see, we're back to punishing me.
Philip: Well, you know, I'm just saying, if I'm supposed to be forgiving of you, why not Vivian?
Kate: Because she's not your mother. She's nothing to you. And yet you let her pick out your fiancée's wedding dress.
Philip: Hmm. Yeah. But at least there's no brownies involved, no poison apples.
Kate: Oh, that's cute, Philip.
Philip: Mother, weren't you all buddy-buddy with your future daughter-in-law, whom you then tried to kill?
Kate: Gee, do I have to remind you there's no proof of that?
Philip: Right, because your new charming husband got rid of the proof. But you know and I know that if history has anything to say about it, Melanie is a lot safer with Vivian than with you.
Vivian: When you told me about poor, grieving Maggie, I kicked myself for not offering condolences. Is she in?
Melanie: She's upstairs in bed.
Vivian: At this hour? Poor thing. Well, uh, where's adorable little Mia?
Melanie: Mia is out right now.
Vivian: Uh-huh. Well, maybe you and I could just go back and talk about our previous conversation.
Melanie: Okay, uh, I just want to bring that tea up to Maggie really fast.
Vivian: Of course you do. Well, hurry back. Oh, well. If Melanie's a dead end, maybe that blonde Barbie doll will come back, and I can grill her.
[Cell phone ringing]
Vivian: Ooh. Oh. Gus. Please tell me you have news.
Gus: I do, Madam, excellent news.
Stefano: Where the hell did I put those papers? [Growls]
Arianna: Hey, um, you know what? I'm so sorry. You know, I-I--it didn't come out--
Brady: It--it--it's okay. I understand. It's--you're right. It's impossible for me to always be by your side.
Roman: I am so sorry. But I've been ordered to take you back to prison today.
Bo: Let's not talk tonight.
Carly: Okay. Guess we both have had a rough day.
Carly: But, you know, whatever it is... we'll get through it together.
Vivian: It's all come together? How? Be specific.
Gus: Our experts were able to make more of the damaged medical report.
Vivian: Spit it out.
Gus: They got a date of birth. Melanie Layton is a match.
Vivian: She's Carly's daughter? Melanie is--
Melanie: Melanie is what? What's wrong? Who were you talking to about me?
Stefano: Well... this... this is very interesting. Why do you... have a medicine bottle for an infant? Hmm?
Vivian: Payback's a bitch.
Sami: I trust you with my life. I trust you with my kids' lives.
Stefano: This is about Sydney, isn't it?
