Rafe: You should get some rest, you know.

Sami: I can't. I can't stop thinking about Sydney out there, alone, scared. Look, have you heard anything from the stakeout team? Is there anything more about the person that's, you know, checking out the pier or whatever?

Rafe: He or she is still checking out the pier.

Sami: I'm scared. What if this person sees that the FBI is there? I think you should pull your team out. Tell them to leave. Sydney's life is in danger, Rafe.

EJ: Come on, Anna, for God's sake. Why aren't you responding to my messages? [Sighs]

[Phone ringing]

[Ringing]

Bo: Yeah, well, my officers are available if you need them, Agent Pierce. We're all pretty desperate to find Sydney. Yeah, yeah. Keep me in the loop.

Carly: My daughter hates me, Bo. Melanie hates me.

Bo: Good morning. We need to talk.

Philip: Carly. Hey, I got your message. You wanted to talk to me?

Carly: Yeah. My shift is over. Do you mind if we go back to my office and we can talk?

Philip: No, this is fine. I have a board meeting in a couple of minutes. What's on your mind?

Carly: I want to apologize.

Vivian: You're up early. Trouble sleeping?

Hope: Sorry if I disturbed you.

Vivian: It's all right. I'm an early bird. Catching worms and all that.

Hope: Right.

Vivian: Speaking of which, I've heard some interesting news about a particularly little wicked night crawler.

Hope: News?

Vivian: Carly's secret. Won't be a secret for long.

Sami: I think you should tell your guys to get off the pier.

Rafe: Well, we can't do that, Sami. We cannot trust the kidnappers to return Sydney once they have taken the ransom.

Sami: Well, I don't trust the FBI not to get caught by the kidnappers.

EJ: [Clears his throat] What's going on?

Sami: I'm trying to tell Rafe that I think the FBI should get off the pier so they don't put Sydney's life in any more jeopardy than she already is.

EJ: I have orchestrated this entire plan, every move. And my next move, just as forced.

Anna: Which is what, exactly?

EJ: I agree with Samantha. Get your men out.

[Phone rings]

Rafe: Hernandez. Well, I can't say that that surprises me.

Hope: You know what Carly's secret it?

Vivian: Eh, promise you won't kill the messenger?

Hope: Vivian, just--just tell me.

Vivian: All right, all right. I--eh, all right. I overheard Bo talking to Philip yesterday and it seems she had her sights set on him long before she came back to Salem. It was only a matter of time before she stole him away from you.

Rafe: Well, the agents got a closer look at the person checking out the pier. It turns out it's a woman.

Sami: The woman that Nicole saw?

EJ: Wait a second. I mean, Nicole didn't see a woman. She just saw boots.

Rafe: Well, she heard her voice and it sounded familiar, so not surprisingly, this woman is at the pier.

EJ: But we don't know if it's the same woman.

Rafe: Well, apparently, she has made up her mind that she is not being watched and she's going for the money, so we might have found Sydney's kidnapper.

Philip: You should be apologizing to Hope, not to me.

Carly: All right, look. This isn't about what happened at Maggie's. That was--that--it--that's between her and me. I want to talk about Melanie.

Philip: What about her?

Carly: You know she was going to rejoin the nursing program after you got back from your honeymoon, but when she found out that Dr. Jonas asked me to deal with her request, she changed her mind.

Philip: So what's the apology for?

Carly: I don't want to be the person that stands in her way of her building a career for herself, so I thought maybe you could talk to her. You know, tell her that she can rejoin at any time.

Philip: Why don't you talk to her?

Carly: She won't return my calls.

Philip: Fine. I will, uh, pass the apology along.

Carly: Hey, Philip. She told me about her life growing up. You know, her father?

Philip: Melanie had a really rotten childhood, mostly because of the way her father raised her. Trent was a real prince.

Carly: So I gather.

Philip: You know, and that said, why don't you do us both a favor and stay out of our lives?

Carly: Philip, wait. Just wait. I know you're angry with me for seeing Bo.

Philip: You mean you've been sleeping with him. Are you proud of yourself, Carly? Hmm? Finally get that brass ring?

Carly: Why would you put it that way?

Philip: [Laughs] Come on. You've been planning this seduction for years. That's right, Bo told me. You had your sights locked in on him way before you got back to Salem.

Melanie: Okay, what do you want?

Bo: Well, we're, uh, we're about to become family, so I thought it was about time we have a civilized conversation.

Melanie: Ooh, about what? How you think I'm rushing into marrying Philip or how I should be wary of being a member of the Kiriakis family? Or are you gonna advise me against dropping out of the nursing school program? See, everybody wants to tell me how to live my life, so why shouldn't you?

Bo: I-- [Laughs] I know better than to tell you how to live your life.

Melanie: Oh, good. Okay.

Bo: This is--well, I just wanted to let you know that you've got people in your corner, people who care. Maggie, me, Carly.

Melanie: Carly Manning?

Bo: Mm-hmm.

Melanie: [Laughs] I'm sorry. What makes you think that she cares?

[Bo sighs]

Hope: You actually heard Bo tell Philip that?

Vivian: That Carly was pursuing him long before she came back to Salem.

Hope: Did he say how she was pursuing him? Phone calls, e-mails, text messages? What?

Vivian: Well, sadly, the details are rather vague.

Hope: Or nonexistent.

Vivian: Oh, Hope, why would he make that up? I know it's hard to believe, but if you want proof, look what happened. Carly comes off a boat, she jumps into Bo's arms, and look what happened.

Hope: You know what, Vivian? You make it sound like Bo was her contingency plan if things didn't work out with Lawrence.

Vivian: Well, that's exactly what it was. Look at the timetable. You and Bo are having problems. You break up with him. You move out. Lawrence is stabbed to death in cold blood and then--

Hope: And then Carly comes back to Salem.

Vivian: Oh, I'm sorry. I've--I've upset you.

Hope: No, you haven't upset me, not at all. In fact, I'm not buying it. That is not Carly's big secret.

Vivian: Oh, you poor thing. You're in denial, and I know this is very hard to process.

Hope: Why would I bother processing it when it's not true?

Vivian: You don't have to raise your voice.

Hope: You know what, Vivian? Just do me a favor from now on. Keep your theories to yourself. Would you do that?

Vivian: I'm just trying to help.

Hope: Help? I don't need your help. This is my life we're talking about. This is my husband we're talking about. If I need answers, I'll get them myself.

Chad: Sure you won't change your mind and come? I haven't asked anyone else yet, so there's still room in my parent's condo.

Gabi: Really?

Chad: And not to mention, tickets to the snowboarding finals at the winter Olympics. You know, the major international event that only happens every four years.

Gabi: It does sound like fun.

Chad: Fun? It's gonna be mind-blowing. Come on, Gabi, say you'll go.

Rafe: I'll be right there. Good work. The woman grabbed the ransom money and the stakeout team has arrested her.

EJ: That's it? That's all you know? I mean, do you know who this person is?

Sami: Did she say anything about Sydney?

Rafe: I don't know yet. They took her down to the police station for questioning. I'm heading there now.

Sami: I'm gonna go with you.

EJ: Yeah, me too.

Sami: Oh, my God, this is so great.

Bo: I could think of a couple reasons why Carly might care about you. You know, she's a doctor. You want to be a nurse.

Melanie: That doesn't matter.

Bo: Look, she feels connected to you. You guys work in the same place. Same hospital.

Melanie: Not anymore. I quit. Did she not tell you?

Bo: Whatever reason, she wants to be your friend.

Melanie: I don't understand why, and I keep asking her, and she keeps spitting out these lame excuses like you just did.

Bo: She likes you. Is that lame?

Melanie: Just because she likes me doesn't mean I have to like her back, okay?

Bo: Okay. If you gave her a chance, you might like her. And like it or not, you and I will be family. She can be part of that.

Melanie: No, she cannot be a part of that because all I know about Carly is that she offed her husband and then stole Hope's, okay? So I don't want anything to do with her.

Bo: Got some double standards going on there, kiddo.

Melanie: You're just-- you're just a riot, Bo. Look, I have all the family that I need. I have Philip, I have Maggie. I don't need anybody else. Especially your precious Carly. All right? Thank you so much. Good talk.

[Door slams]

Bo: [Laughs] So much like your mom. And you do need her, kiddo, more than you know.

Carly: Uh...uh, no. No, that's not true.

Philip: Oh, so Bo was lying to me?

Carly: What exactly did he say to you?

Philip: That you decided to get back together with him long before you made your surprise return to Salem.

Carly: Oh, God.

Philip: Guess he's not as protective of you as you thought.

Carly: Yeah, mm-hmm. Look, uh, you're gonna be late for your meeting. I'm really sorry I bothered you.

Mia: Are you thinking about changing your mind?

Gabi: About what?

Mia: Going to the Olympics.

Gabi: Would you have a problem with that?

Mia: No, no. I'm just worried about you.

Gabi: Worried?

Mia: Okay, look. I know you like Chad, but I think he asked you to go to Vancouver to make me jealous.

Gabi: That's not the way it sounded to me.

Mia: Of course not. Why would he let on that was the reason? Then you'd never go.

Gabi: So you're saying he's just using me?

Mia: One way to put it.

Gabi: No, you're wrong. I know he really does want me to go.

Mia: You know? Why? Because he's all charming and persuasive? Because Chad could sell life insurance to that little green gecko?

Gabi: Unlike you.

Mia: What are you talking about?

Gabi: I think you want me to believe Chad is just playing games with me because you don't want to lose him.

Mia: What?

Gabi: Sure you're not trying to make Chad jealous, Mia, by using Will?

Sami: The FBI should have just let the woman take the money.

EJ: Look, Samantha, we don't know that she's the person who has our daughter.

Sami: Well, now we might never know. I mean, what if she doesn't tell us what she's done with Sydney? Hey, so...?

Rafe: The woman's being interviewed now.

Sami: Okay. So, who is she? I mean, did she tell you anything? Does she know where Sydney is?

Rafe: Well, she claims her name is Marian O'Brien.

EJ: So what do you mean, she claims her name is Marian O'Brien?

Rafe: No I.D. Said she left her purse at home.

Sami: What about the cops? Did they recognize her?

Rafe: She's in federal custody. No one but my team has interviewed her. We're keeping your uncle Bo informed.

EJ: So I'm assuming that this O'Brien lady is denying she had something to do with the kidnapping?

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Says that she saw you leave the briefcase and walk away and took it because she was curious.

Sami: She was so curious she waited till the next morning to take the money?

Rafe: Said she was scared. Didn't want to find herself in the middle of something dangerous.

EJ: Do you think she's telling the truth?

Rafe: Too soon to tell. Obviously, we're checking the federal database. Her fingerprints, her name.

Sami: How long is that gonna take?

Rafe: Look, Sami, Nicole recognized her voice, and I want you to see her. I think that you might know her.

Bo: Yeah, thanks for letting me know about this O'Brien woman. I'm having my guys run her info through our database as we speak.

[Knock on door]

Bo: Yeah, I'll let you know if I come up with anything. You do the same. All right. Yeah?

Carly: Are you out of your mind?

Bo: Hello to you too.

Carly: I know why you did it. It's not gonna work. You're gonna take it back!

[Bo exhales]

Justin: So we'll set up a program to raise $100,000 for the outpatient care facility. Or we could pocket the cash and just let the indigent get sick and die.

Philip: Whatever.

Justin: Okay, stop. You didn't listen to a word going on in the board meeting, and you're not listening to me now. What's up? Philip, I'm not moving until you tell me what's wrong.

Philip: Carly.

Justin: [Sighs] Explain.

Philip: Do I really need to? I mean, she's destroying Bo and Hope's marriage. Don't tell me you haven't noticed.

Justin: Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but Bo and Hope had a little something to do with that.

Philip: Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm beginning to think the Kiriakis men are cursed.

Justin: Come on.

Philip: I mean, when it comes to women anyway. I mean, really, does anyone in this family have a shot at a happy marriage?

Mia: So give me a list of all your cross-country track dates. I'm going to all of them.

Will: All right. I have them in here somewhere. I mean, it's okay if you miss a couple.

Gabi: Good news.

Chad: You can go?

Gabi: My mom said it was okay.

Chad: No way, that's amazing! That's awesome!

Gabi: I know. She wants to talk to your folks, make sure they're gonna be there.

Chad: Oh, don't worry. They'll be there. Hey, this is, uh, this is really cool. I'm so glad you can make it.

Gabi: A chance to go to the Olympics. How could I say no?

Chad: Well, you made the right decision. We're gonna have an amazing time.

EJ: Come on, Anna, will you answer the phone, damn it?

Sami: Hey, what are you doing?

EJ: Um, just, uh, I'm checking my messages. It's just, you know, I spoke to some of my people. I want to see if, uh, they have a lead on this O'Brien lady.

Sami: And?

EJ: Nothing, nothing.

Sami: Oh, God. Why are we--

[Door shuts]

Rafe: Well, the woman is inside. Ready?

Sami: Yeah. Oh, no.

Sami: I know her.

Rafe: Who is she?

Sami: I've seen her. At the pier. You know, in passing. I've seen her a bunch.

Rafe: Do you know her?

EJ: No. Never have seen her before in my life.

Anna: Hey, sweetie. Did you miss me? Benny said you were such a good girl. And I'm sorry I had to leave. But since your daddy won't tell me how long we're staying here, I had to pick up some supplies. Oh, and look what I brought you. Do you like it? Uh-oh, I guess I forgot to take my cell phone with me. Hope your daddy didn't worry too much.

Tad: Five suitcases? Are you kidding me?

Kinsey: Well, I have to make sure I have the right outfit for the right Olympic event.

Tad: Dude, can you believe her? She thinks the judges are gonna judge her on her fashion sense.

Chad: Uh, guess what. Gabi's coming to Vancouver with us.

Tad: Excellent. Welcome aboard.

Gabi: Thanks.

Kinsey: Wow! So you're coming after all?

Gabi: Yeah. Just decided.

Kinsey: Cool. Uh, walk me to the ladies' room, okay? And we can talk clothes. Hey, maybe we can share stuff, you know, like conserve suitcase space?

Gabi: Sure.

Kinsey: Although you're probably a couple sizes bigger than me, so...

Tad: So the Gabriela invite, does that mean you and Mia are history?

Chad: Well, it looks that way. I mean, how many times does she have to say, "get out of my life," before I get a clue, right?

Carly: You threw me under the bus. Now Philip hates me.

Bo: Too damn bad. Vivian was listening. Better that the two of them think you had your sights set on me than she discovers that you came to Salem to find your daughter.

Carly: You don't feel the tiniest bit guilty that you're making me out to be the home-wrecker of the year?

Bo: Wear it proudly, princess. Better a scarlet letter than a black armband.

Carly: That's--that's clever. That's-- [Sighs]

Bo: Just saying it like it is.

Carly: Just, I wish that Vivian could see what a monster that Lawrence turned into.

Bo: As you said, there's no changing that woman's mind. The important thing is that you and your daughter are safe.

Carly: And what about you?

Bo: That woman's no threat to me.

Carly: Bo, you put it out there that I had my sights set on you. People are gonna think you were available to be caught.

[Knock on door]

Hope: Bo, I was just talking to Vivian, and...

Carly: Hope.

[Door closes]

Hope: Why don't you tell me the whole truth, that Carly came back here for you?

Bo: I'm sorry.

Hope: So you don't deny it. Either of you. I didn't think the picture could get much worse. Because now I know that she's always been on your mind all these years. Now I know that our marriage has been a complete lie. All of it.

Rafe: Well, Ms. O'Brien is in a holding cell while we check on her story.

Sami: So what do you know? I mean, did she say anything about Sydney, where she is?

Rafe: Well, she claims she was in Houston while Sydney was abducted in Cleveland.

Sami: She could have flown from Houston to Cleveland. Or maybe the kidnappers just hired her to collect the ransom because they knew the FBI would be watching, in which case, we fell right into their trap.

Rafe: Well, you know, she also says that she works at one of the warehouses down by the pier, which is why she was there, which is why you saw her there. I'm just waiting to hear back from her employer for confirmation of that.

EJ: That's a complete waste of time. You're gonna find some useless information from somebody who clearly does not know what is going on.

Sami: EJ, this isn't gonna help.

EJ: No, I'm sorry, the FBI has made a mess of everything, Samantha. Everything. This man blew it. If we don't see our daughter again, it is on him and the FBI.

Anna: Okay, I'm just letting your daddy know that everything is good on our end. Hey, I wonder how it's going on his.

Melanie: Hi.

Philip: Hi yourself. Did you think I wasn't here?

Melanie: Why?

Philip: I saw you looking around.

Melanie: Oh, no, I was worried that you were somebody else.

Philip: Who?

Melanie: Your brother, Bo. He was here earlier. He was torturing me. Strapped me to a chair, turned on the bright lights, started questioning me. Cop stuff.

Philip: About what?

Melanie: Um, he wants his weird mistress to be my friend.

Philip: Carly? Hmm. Where is that coming from?

Melanie: I have absolutely no I-- I mean, the woman's been in town for five minutes, and she's already trying to get involved in my life, and I don't get it.

Philip: Ah, maybe she wants you to like her for Bo's sake.

Melanie: Yeah. I'm just not a big fan of Bo and Hope after that whole accusing me of killing my dad thing.

Philip: Yeah.

Melanie: I don't know. I do kind of feel sorry for Hope, though.

Philip: Yeah, me too.

Carly: No, Hope. That's--that's not what happened. I came back to Salem for Bo, but he has no feelings--

Bo: I'm sorry that Vivian felt compelled to hurt you with this gossip about Carly's personal life.

Hope: You took your wedding ring off. Was that before or after you slept with her?

Bo: Hope, if you let me explain--

Hope: You son of a bitch.

[Clatter]

[Door slams]

[Bo sighs]

[Door closes]

Justin: I know Uncle Victor has banned me from the house, but I thought I'd just drop off these documents from the board meeting. Hope. Hey, what's happening?

Hope: Carly never stopped loving him. She never stopped loving Bo. She came back to get him. And he welcomed her with open arms.

Justin: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Come here. [Sighs]

[Hope crying]

Justin: It's okay, it's okay.

Kinsey: So, there's a hot tub in the condo, right? 'Cause I've got this really great bathing suit I want to try out.

Tad: If there was an event for narcissism, Kinsey would win the gold in a walk.

Kinsey: Yes. Oh, this is so perfect.

Chad: What?

Kinsey: Morgan Lesser just walked by outside. Oh, she will totally die when I tell her about this. Be right back.

Tad: And she lives to make others jealous. Are you sure you still want to go on this trip?

Chad: Kinsey's okay once you get to know her.

Tad: He's only saying that so you don't change your mind.

Chad: Get out of here. Like, honestly, don't worry, okay? I mean, I know she can be kind of annoying.

Gabi: Look, it's okay. She doesn't bother me. And like I said, this is such an amazing opportunity. I've always wanted to go to the Olympics.

Chad: Hmm. As in watch or participate?

Gabi: All right, promise you won't laugh?

Chad: Tell me.

Gabi: Okay, when I was little, I secretly wanted to be a figure skater.

Chad: Yeah? Are you any good?

Gabi: At falling, yeah. It didn't work out.

Chad: Hmm, duly noted. I, um, wanted to be a swimmer.

Gabi: What happened?

Chad: I hate to open my eyes under water.

Gabi: [Laughs] No way.

Will: Got some cookies.

Mia: Uh, you know what I just realized? I forgot my science book, so I have to run home. But, um, I'll just meet you at school, okay?

Will: Yeah, sure. Whatever.

Mia: I'm really happy we're back together.

Will: Me too.

Sami: Hey, hey, any word from the pier? Any sort of suspicious activity? Anything?

Officer: Nope. Sorry.

Sami: [Sighs] What if they found out? What if the kidnappers found out about the stakeout? What if... what if they don't look at Sydney like she is some innocent little girl? What if they're--what if they're gonna hurt her?

EJ: They're not going to hurt her, okay? They're not.

Sami: How can you sound so sure?

EJ: Samantha, I can understand why you worry about those things, but we just have to have hope and have faith, okay? We have to know that everything is going to turn out all right.

Rafe: Marian O'Brien's story checks out.

Sami: How so?

Rafe: I talked to her brother in Houston. He confirmed that she was there with him and his family over the holidays and when Sydney was taken in Cleveland.

Rafe: Wait a second. You're not just taking this guy's word for it, are you?

Rafe: No, he's sending pictures. I also talked to neighbors who saw her there. Everything sounds legit.

Sami: What about why she was at the pier?

Rafe: Her employer confirmed that she works there. She crosses the pier every single day.

Sami: Yeah, but maybe the kidnappers know that. You know, maybe that's why they picked her. They paid her to take the ransom.

Rafe: Background checks out. There's nothing even remotely incriminating at her place.

Sami: So what happens now?

Rafe: We had to let her go.

EJ: Great. Now we're back to where we started.

Sami: Let's just hope that they don't know that the FBI is involved. Let's just hope Sydney is safe.

Rafe: Yeah.

[Hope crying]

Justin: Hope, I'm so sorry.

Hope: I never actually thought she planned this. And Bo... [Crying] Always seemed to be thinking about her too, all these years that we were married. [Crying]

Justin: Tell me what I can do. Tell me how I can just make this go away.

[Hope crying]

Hope: Justin. I'm not ready.

Justin: I understand. Hope... he doesn't deserve you.

Hope: I don't want to hurt you.

Justin: You know, there's this funny thing about caring for somebody. You just don't worry about getting hurt.

Hope: Thank you for being here.

Justin: For you, anything.

Bo: So this O'Brien woman turned out to be a dead end? Yeah, well, you let me know if anyone else shows up at the pier looking for that money.

Carly: Here.

Bo: Thanks.

Carly: Sorry, you're in the middle of a kidnapping and, and I'm throwing problems at you again.

Bo: Not as much in the middle as I'd like to be. The feds are in charge of this investigation. They're keeping me informed as a courtesy.

Carly: Well, that's got to be difficult.

Bo: Yeah. Especially since the missing child is Sami's daughter. You know what, I got to get down to the station, keep an eye on things.

Carly: Right, listen, um, I'm sorry. I know how much what just happened with Hope hurt you.

Bo: Yeah, well, she made her bed. Now she's got to lie in it. Your daughter's life is in danger. I promised to protect her and you. I intend to keep that promise.

Melanie: [Chuckling] Okay. Okay. Now that we are not eloping in Vegas, I kind of have, like, a really small favor.

Philip: Ask for a big favor.

Melanie: Okay, all right. Well, I'm kind of starting to get into this marriage thing.

Philip: Really?

Melanie: And I kind of want a bigger wedding.

Vivian: Oh, how marvelous. Oh, please, darling, let me help. You know how much I want to be a part of this wedding.

Melanie: Um, Mrs. Alamain--

Vivian: But it will be such a wonderful experience for bonding. We'll get to know each other.

Philip: Vivian.

Vivian: Oh, Philip, please, let me help. It means so much to me. And you know, you're just like the daughter I never had.

Chad: So I'm officially done with my shift. You want to head over to school?

Tad: Ask him nice enough and maybe he'll even carry your books.

Gabi: Thanks, but I can carry my own books. We should get going. Don't want to be late for that geometry test.

Tad: Will, school awaits. Are you coming with?

Will: Uh, yeah.

Kinsey: It's too bad you're not going to Vancouver with us, Will. Hope you don't feel left out.

Will: It's fine. Rather spend time with Mia anyway.

Kinsey: Mm.

Mia: Hey, Grace. I just came to say hi and... tell you how much I miss you. I'm sure if... your dad had gotten to know you... he'd miss you too. But... I guess he's not thinking that much about you... or me. Not anymore. [Chuckles] 'Cause he really likes this other girl, see? And I thought it would be okay. [Chuckles] I thought I was over him. But I'm not. I know I'm a terrible person... because I like Will too. It's not fair to them. I want them both and I know that's wrong, but I just can't-- I can't lose another person in my life. I just can't.

[Cell phone rings]

EJ: Anna, where have you been? Oh, well. You're here now. Good news. Everything going according to plan. [Clicks tongue] Good.

Anna: [Sighs] Okay. That was your daddy. He says that everything is working out well. Smooth as silk. [Giggles]

Sami: The waiting's the worst. Not knowing if she's okay. Just wondering if Sydney's even safe.

Rafe: Well, the FBI's dealt with thousands of cases like this one. Most of the time the kidnappers wait before they go after the money. It's like they're intentionally trying to screw with the parents' heads as much as possible.

Sami: It's working.

Officer: We just received this fax. It came in on the public line. To miss Brady and Mr. DiMera.

Sami: "You brought in the feds. You will never see Sydney again." [Sobbing]

Hope: I have to wonder was my marriage ever worth saving?

Carly: What did you do? No! No, baby. No, baby.

Sami: What is she gonna do to my little girl?
