Judge Goldberg: For the record, be it known that I have reached a verdict on the sentencing of Nicole Walker DiMera. Mrs. DiMera, would you please stand for sentencing?
Anna: I see. Um, well, thank you for letting me know. Ooh. Big news, little darlin'-- seems your ex-mother is being sentenced right this very minute. Oh... never-- I could never let that happen to me. I'd rather die than be caught.
Gabi: Well, why didn't you tell me you and Mia had a baby? That is kind of a big deal.
Chad: I thought everyone knew.
Gabi: Not me. I just got to Salem, remember?
Chad: But your--your sister and your brother, they knew. They--they didn't tell you?
Gabi: Obviously not.
Man: Chad, we're getting backed up here.
Chad: Be right there. Give me a minute, okay?
Mia: Gabi, I feel awful. I should have said something.
Gabi: It's okay.
Mia: No, it's not. You should know the whole story about Chad and me... the real story.
Judge Goldberg: As I stated earlier, Mrs. DiMera, you are as repentant and remorseful as any defendant I have ever encountered. And much of what you have done, while unconscionable, is, on some level, understandable. I feel that your mental state during the time of your actions, as described by you to us, and later clarified by the testimony of Brady Black-- it's obvious that you were fragile, unstable... grieving over the loss of your own child... your miscarriage... especially knowing that it was your last chance to bear a child. All of these factors have to be taken into consideration. And therefore... your sentence will be reduced accordingly.
Sami: What? You can't just do that! You cannot just set her free!
Judge Goldberg: Order. I will have order in this court.
Sami: No, I mean--
Judge Goldberg: Sit down!
Sami: Come on, you can't just let her get away with this!
Judge Goldberg: Bailiff.
Maggie: You are gonna do just fine.
Chloe: Yeah, right. "Excuse me, but, uh, we were expecting the gracious and delightful Maggie Horton to help us out. What are you doing here?"
Maggie: Oh, come on, no one's gonna say that.
Chloe: [Sighs] Yes, they are. Maggie, there's no way that I can fill your shoes. You bring people's spirits up just by being here, by being you.
Maggie: What a sweet thing to say.
Chloe: Well, it's true. And you are going to be so missed.
Maggie: Well, I'm gonna miss you all too... but not too much.
Chloe: I know, right? A South American cruise-- what a dream.
Chloe: Where are you going first?
Maggie: Okay, let me see. Well, we're gonna fly overnight to Rio--
Lexie: Sorry to interrupt. Chloe, you might want to check on what's going on at the courthouse.
Chloe: Oh, uh, well, I talked to Nicole this morning. It's just the preliminary motions, right?
Lexie: Mm-mm. There is nothing preliminary about it.
Sami: But you have to know it's outrageous. I mean, she can't just go--
Judge Goldberg: I am warning you, Miss Brady, one more outburst, and I will have you removed from this court and held in contempt.
Rafe: Sami, please, sit down. Please?
Judge Goldberg: As I was saying, Mrs. DiMera, your sentence will be reduced accordingly. Instead of the maximum of up to 70 years, I will be imposing a sentence of 20 years, including time served.
Bailiff: Sir, sir, you can't be up here. You got to take your seat.
EJ: [Clapping slowly]
Nicole: Your honor... please, th--there's something I need to say. Ohhhhh....
Judge Goldberg: Mr. Black, I won't ask you again. Please step away from the defendant. As for your request to address the court, you already had a chance to state your case.
Nicole: Your honor, this isn't about me or my sentence. This is about Sydney... the child that we all love. So, please, please let me speak.
Mia: Let's just say... Chad and I... we've been through a lot.
Mia: Having a baby and not knowing she died, it's with us every day.
Gabi: Of course. It can't be something you just get over.
Mia: I guess what I'm trying to say is we're going through it not just as friends.
Mia: See, no matter what Chad and I say or do and no matter how much we try to deny it, it's always been more, and it always will be.
Gabi: But you went to the winter dance with Will.
Mia: I know, I know. But I still feel like...
Gabi: Like what?
Mia: Like Chad's my soul mate. But you can't say anything to either one of them-- not Chad or Will.
Gabi: I wouldn't do that.
Mia: I'm only telling you this because I don't want to see you get played.
Gabi: By Chad, you mean?
Gabi: Because you think he's still into you.
Mia: Well, I hope I don't sound full of myself or conceited or anything. I'm just telling you the truth because I don't want you to get hurt.
Judge Goldberg: Go ahead, then, Mrs. DiMera. But make it quick, please.
Nicole: Like I said before... I know the things I did were horrible. And I should pay for them. I will pay for them. But Sydney... that little girl's done nothing wrong. And what's worse for me than-- than going to prison is the fear of what that sweet, innocent, little girl is going through right now, being separated from--from the people who love her. Please keep searching. Devote all your energy to her, your heart and your souls... because that woman who has her, or the people who have her, they cannot be living in total isolation. There has got to be a way to find her... a way to bring her home.
[Knock on door]
Nicole: Thank you, your honor. That's all I had to say.
Judge Goldberg: Take Mrs. DiMera back to the station, arrange for her transport to state prison within the hour. [Bangs gavel] Court is dismissed.
[Cell phone rings]
Mia: Will, what's going on?
Will: Uh, nothing. I'm calling from the hearing room. Uh, Nicole just got 20 years.
Mia: That's all?
Will: No, it could have been a lot worse, believe me. I'll fill you in later.
Mia: Yeah, I'll be back at Maggie's.
Will: I'll meet you there?
Sami: Hey, Will, I'm so glad you were here. Thank you.
Will: Me too. That was Mia. I told her what happened.
Sami: Maybe this will help her move on with her life.
Will: I hope so.
Sami: She's so lucky to have you. I think you're gonna help her get through this. You're a really good friend to her.
Will: I don't know about that. I just wish I could help you.
Sami: Will, I don't want you to worry about this. We are gonna get Sydney back. Your little sister's gonna be home soon. I'm sure of it. I have a feeling about this. It's not gonna be long now.
Chad: 20 years, huh?
Mia: Yeah. Not sure it's enough after all that woman did.
Chad: Hey, no matter what, Nicole DiMera will be miserable for the rest of her life-- no husband, no kid.
Man: Chad, don't make me ask you again.
Chad: Sorry. I'll be right there. I got to go. I'll be done for the day pretty soon, so stick around, okay?
Mia: Wow. He wants you to wait till he's done with work. Like you have nothing better to do?
Gabi: He said he'd be done soon.
Mia: Still, that's pretty controlling. He used to do stuff like that to me. "Mia, stay at your house, so I can come over whenever I feel like it. Whatever you do, don't leave."
Gabi: He said stuff like that to you?
Mia: Yeah, but, you know, I'm used to it. And it comes from a caring place. It's his way of showing me he still has feelings for me and always will.
Mia: But you--you can't--
Gabi: I can't say anything. I know. I know. I won't. I told you I wouldn't.
Mia: So nice, finally.
Gabi: What is?
Mia: To have a friend I can really trust. I think you and I are gonna be best friends, actually. We'll talk later?
Gabi: Yeah, sure.
Chad: Hey, I'll be done in about, uh, 15, okay? So I was hoping maybe we can finish our conversation?
Gabi: No, we can't. Stay away from me, okay?
Arianna: [Sighs] Okay...
Brady: You came to the hearing, huh?
Brady: Ari, come on.
Arianna: You know... I don't understand you. And I'm beginning to think that I never will.
EJ: All right... after the welcome distraction of seeing Nicole get 20 years, I think it's about time we get back to the matter at hand, don't you? Namely, finding our little girl.
Rafe: Yeah, well, at least I won't have to call in any favors at the FBI.
EJ: Why is that, then?
Rafe: Oh, Sami didn't tell you?
Sami: Oh, I hadn't had a chance.
Rafe: I'm back at the bureau. I've been reinstated, effective immediately.
[Cell phone rings]
Rafe: In fact, I believe that is the field office right now. Back in a minute.
EJ: [Sighs deeply] So he's back at the bureau, is he?
Sami: What are you thinking?
EJ: I don't know, Samantha, maybe it was a mistake to keep him out of the loop. Maybe we should have told him about the ransom note.
Will: Yeah, I probably should have stuck around, but I knew my mom had Rafe there with her, so... I wanted to come see you... knowing how much you've been through today.
Mia: I'll be okay... especially because I have you, Will. And I know deep down, the only place I want to be is right here... in your arms.
Chad: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What--what... what is up with you? Why are you acting like this?
Gabi: You can't figure it out?
Chad: Uh, no, I can't. Before the hearing, everything was cool. Now you're telling me to stay away from you. Look, I'm sorry you were blindsided by the whole baby thing, but--
Gabi: It's fine.
Chad: No, obviously it's not fine.
Gabi: I have to go.
Chad: Gabi, just--just wait. Okay? Look... I made a mistake with Mia, a huge mistake. Okay, I was stupid and irresponsible. But I'm not a bad person. And after all that, everything that happened, it's history. You know, it's completely in the past. You don't believe me, huh?
Gabi: No, I don't.
Chad: Did Mia say something to you just now? What did she say?
Gabi: It doesn't even matter.
Chad: Of course it matters.
Gabi: You know what, Chad? We're not supposed to be friends, okay? We're just not... end of story.
Brady: [Sighs] Right, now you don't understand me. A couple of minutes of testimony, all of a sudden, I'm a mystery to you? Really?
Arianna: Did you think that I was just gonna take it all in stride? That I wasn't gonna see it?
Brady: Ari, I was hoping that you would just be a little compassionate and understanding, that's all. Nicole may be going to jail for 20 years. She's living a hellish life right now. She's in a nightmare right now--
Arianna: Okay, this isn't about me being compassionate, Brady. This is about... [Sighs]
Brady: Tell me, what is this really about? Please.
Arianna: You wanting her to be free... after everything that she's done to your sister.
Brady: Yeah, yeah. I would like for Nicole to be free, Ari.
Chloe: Nicole, I'm so sorry.
Nicole: I'm just glad you're here.
Chloe: Everything moved so fast. I mean, isn't there something you can do? You can appeal, right?
Nicole: I don't want to. This is what I deserve.
Chloe: Don't say that.
Nicole: Sydney is the one who doesn't deserve to be punished, and I will never forgive myself until they find her.
Chloe: Well, do you remember anything else about the woman who took her?
Nicole: Just the feeling that I know her somehow... that maybe we all do.
Anna: Yeah. [Chuckles] Yeah. It was a branch... just a tree branch hitting the door. That's all that little noise was. That's all that noise was... or was it? Hmm? Mm-hmm.
Sami: So now you want to tell Rafe about the ransom note?
EJ: Samantha, isn't that what I just said?
Sami: Yes, but why did you change your mind, because he got reinstated? I mean, before you were like, "no one can know." And then five minutes ago, you were freaking out at the idea of me telling him.
EJ: Because I'm just reconsidering, okay? Now that he's back in the bureau, I don't know, he might be able to help us.
Sami: Great! Great, EJ, let's go tell him--
EJ: Wait, no, no, no. Wait, just think about this for a second. Wait, think about this, okay? All right, think about it. What happens if the kidnapper finds out that he's back in the bureau? I mean, they might cut off communication with us entirely.
Sami: So you want me to tell Rafe not to take the job?
EJ: No, no, that's--I'm-- all right, let's just get our priorities straight, okay? The most important thing here... is getting the ransom together for the kidnapper, yes?
Sami: And then all we can do is wait for the kidnapper to tell us what to do.
EJ: Okay, you know what? The more I think about this, I'm really--
EJ: I'm not sure. Telling Rafe could bring us some clues, but overall I think it's just too risky.
Sami: EJ, two minutes ago, you said we could tell him.
EJ: Samantha, it's too risky, okay? This has to be between you and me--are we agreed? What?
Maggie: Okay, here we go.
Maggie: Right there is perfect.
Maggie: [Laughs] Thank you so much, Lexie.
Lexie: Oh, my goodness.
Lexie: I don't think I've ever seen this before.
Maggie: Ah, that's Mickey and me on my wedding day.
Lexie: Oh, with Tom and Alice. Look how beautiful you all are.
Maggie: Mm, and young.
Lexie: You're still beautiful.
Maggie: Ah, you know, after all these years, I still feel so blessed to be married to my best friend. Is that a cliché or what?
Lexie: Mm-mm, not if it's true.
Maggie: Well, it is. We don't have a perfect marriage. I mean, who does? I mean, we fight... all the time, in fact.
Lexie: What, you and Mickey?
Maggie: Oh, yeah, yeah. We fight, we yell, we throw things.
Maggie: Pillows. Pillows. We don't have any actual physical harm with each other.
Lexie: Good, well, that's a relief.
Maggie: It's really nice making up.
Lexie: Yeah, it is. I-I can't get over it, Maggie. I mean...
Lexie: You and Mickey. I just always assumed the two of you were, I don't know, the "happily every after" types.
Maggie: Hmm, oh, no.
Mia: I need you, Will... more than ever.
[Door closes] What?
Will: Didn't you hear the back door close? Could be my aunt.
Mia: So what? Will, didn't you hear me? I need you so much.
Nicole: E-excuse me, Officer. Do you mind if we have a minute alone?
Officer: You've got until the police transport arrives.
Nicole: Thank you. [Sighs] You know, I, uh... I just want to say, first of all, that you and I, we-- we spent so many years fighting and such a short time being friends, and I really wish that was reversed, you know?
Chloe: Me too. But, hey, we're still gonna be friends. I'm gonna write you. I'll come visit.
Nicole: Oh, you better. And the other thing is... you and Daniel. He loves you so much. Don't be like me. Don't take that for granted.
Chloe: I don't understand. What do you mean "be like you"?
Nicole: [Sighs] All this time, for over a year, I chased this illusion. I hung on for dear life to this lie when--when real love-- when-- when Brady... was looking me right in the face the whole time. And I threw that away. And you know what I wish more than anything? Is that I could take it all back.
Arianna: If that were the case, if Nicole were free...
Brady: Ari, she's a good person. And she's made a lot of mistakes. And she regrets every single one of them. That's it.
Arianna: You didn't answer my question. What would you do if Nicole didn't go to jail?
Brady: Why--why does it even make a difference? It--it doesn't matter. What's with all these hypotheticals?
Arianna: It's just one.
Brady: I don't know. I don't--I don't--I can't say. I can't speculate on that. I don't know.
Arianna: Okay, well, um, I'm sure that you want to go say good-bye to her before she's sent away, right?
Brady: Yeah, yeah, I do, but listen, if this is gonna become a problem between you and me, I don't want to--
Arianna: Hey, just--just go. Go say good-bye, and we can talk about this later, okay? Please, go. [Sighs] You're still in love with her, Brady. I know it, and so do you.
Rafe: What are you guys talking about?
Sami: Um, Nicole and the sentencing and... just that I was worried about him being a DiMera, and all the horrible things they've done, like the judge said. And he still gave her 20 years, which is--
EJ: It's great. Thankfully it all worked out.
EJ: No? What do you mean "no"? You're not happy she got 20 years?
Rafe: No, I mean that's not what you guys were talking about. Of different stuff... from her.
[Knock on door]
Mia: Don't answer it.
Will: Mia, whoever it is, they're just gonna keep knocking. And then my aunt and uncle are gonna hear it.
Mia: Fine, I'll get rid of them.
Gabi: Hey, you left this at—
Maggie: And on the day this picture was taken, I spent most of the morning feeling like I was gonna pass out. I was so nervous... and excited. And now... when I think back to everything that happened after that fateful day--divorce... remarriage... kids, grandkids, and blessings and tragedies... but with all the ups and downs, how lucky I am to have not only found the man of my dreams, but that I actually held on to him.
Lexie: Well, he's lucky to have you too, Maggie.
Maggie: I'm sorry. You know, I seem to ramble on when I get sentimental.
Lexie: No, no, no. I love listening to you talk. It's inspiring.
Maggie: Well, you and Abe have a great marriage too. And--and that precious little boy.
Lexie: Oh, Theo, our angel. Well, I mean, you know, in the-- in the beginning, our disagreements about him drove Abe and I apart. I mean, thank God we worked it all out. And, uh, I don't know. Now we're--we're happier than ever.
Maggie: And Theo is thriving.
Maggie: Oh, bless his sweet, little heart.
Lexie: Yeah. Yeah. I've got to tell you, Maggie, you and Mickey, I mean, you've-- you've really set a great example for us... really. I only hope that years from now, when Theo is all grown up and, um--and Abe and I are all grown up... [Both chuckle] That we'll be as happy as you and Mickey are.
Maggie: You will be. You know why?
Maggie: Because you also married your best friend.
Lexie: Yeah, I did.
Maggie: Yeah, you did.
Lexie: You are so wise. I just love you so much. I love you.
Maggie: Oh, and I love you.
Nicole: Oh, can you, uh-- can you go now, please, before they take me away?
Chloe: I'm always gonna be here for you, Nicole, just know that. Come here.
Nicole: Thank you.
Chloe: [Exhales deeply] Okay, I'm gonna go before I cry. Bye.
Nicole: Bye. Chloe, please... look, I just really need to—
Rafe: See, when I walked in, EJ was asking you if you agreed. Now, how could that be about Nicole?
EJ: We just agreed not to give the press a statement about Nicole. We want to concentrate on what's important. That's finding our daughter.
Rafe: Right. I'm sorry. Sorry if I seem suspicious. I know that we're all on the same page, right?
EJ: That's quite all right. Actually, speaking of which, I should probably get home and see if there's any news. I'll let you know if there's an update, okay?
Sami: Um, I should get back too.
Rafe: I'll go with you.
EJ: Good. All right, well, glad we're all on the same page.
Sami: Yeah. So come on, let's go.
Rafe: Yeah. After you.
Gabi: Anyway, uh, here. You left this at Java.
Mia: Thanks. Uh, Will, could you go grab me a drink? Water's fine.
Will: Uh, yeah. Yeah, sure.
Mia: Why are you looking at me like that?
Gabi: Because I don't understand. Why were you kissing Will?
Maggie: Okay, where are they? Oh, hey, Will. I didn't know you were here. Ah.
Will: Yeah, just hanging out with Mia. Oh, and Gabi's here too.
Maggie: Oh, that's nice. Listen, um, your uncle's upstairs packing, I'm sure. And I need to get finished myself.
Maggie: Oh, oh, oh, okay. Melanie's not gonna be here for the rest of the day, so do you think you and Mia could water my plants for me? I was gonna do it, but I don't think I have time--I'm late.
Will: No, we'll do it. No problem.
Maggie: Oh, one more thing. Mia, have her turn off the lights if you all are going out later, 'cause you're gonna be the only two here. I mean, it's-- you're my last defense for energy conservation.
Mia: Will and I were not kissing.
Gabi: No? Then why were you both all red in the face? And why is your lipstick smeared?
Mia: We're not all red in the face.
Gabi: I thought you said you and Chad had something special. I thought you said he was your soul mate.
Mia: He is, and he always will be.
Gabi: Then why are you stringing Will along? Isn't that a little mean, not to mention totally immoral?
Mia: Oh, wow, you're gonna lecture me on morality?
Gabi: You say you want Chad, and here you are going at it with Will. Am I supposed to think that's cool?
Mia: [Scoffs] Why should I care what you think? I don't have to explain myself to you.
Nicole: I'll be in his heart... always. [Laughing] Oh, you know it's true.
Arianna: No... I won't let it be.
Nicole: Even now you come. Still in my corner.
Brady: I hate this. I just hate this.
Nicole: Shh, please, please. Let it go.
Brady: I can't let it go. I should have been able to--
Nicole: What? What?
Brady: I don't know--
Nicole: Brady, how is any of this your fault?
Brady: I feel like I should have protected you from this or something--I don't know.
Nicole: You did everything you could to protect me. All the mistakes I made were in spite of you, not because of you. Brady, look... you're the only one... who really cares... who ever cared. And that's why--
Nicole: I don't-- I don't want you to be hurt. You don't deserve it.
Brady: I don't--I don't deserve it?
Nicole: Arianna. Just be careful, okay. Check her out.
Brady: What do you mean by that?
Nicole: Well, I-- I overheard her and her sister talking before I left town with Sydney, and... Arianna is a drug dealer.
Brady: I did--no, I know. No, no. It's a big misunderstanding. Trust me, it's--
Nicole: Just promise me you will be careful, okay? Don't let her hurt you. Don't let anyone ever hurt you again like I did over and over... which brings me to the second thing that I need to tell you. Don't call me. And don't write. And don't come visit me.
Brady: What are you talk--
Nicole: 'Cause I won't see you, Brady. I won't take your calls. I won't write you back.
Nicole: I won't, I won't! Because it will be too hard for me. And the one gift that I can actually give you is to finally truly let you go.
Sami: You've been really quiet since we left the courthouse. What's wrong?
Rafe: You tell me.
[Cell phone rings]
EJ: What? Oh, my God.
[Car door closes]
Anna: [Whispering] Someone is here.
Mia: Gabi, uh, I'm so sorry I was mean. You just came in at a really bad time.
Gabi: [Scoffs] No kidding.
Mia: Well, thanks for the scarf.
Gabi: Right. You know, Mia, if you really care about Chad, if he's so important to you, then leave will alone. Stop leading him on.
Will: So what did she mean by that?
Brady: Nicole, I-I can't just-- I can't just walk out--
Officer: It's time to go.
Brady: Please, don't do this.
Nicole: Brady, please. Please don't say anything else. The one last thing I will say is even though I'll never see you again or... or hear your voice... you'll always be with me, Brady, forever.
Sami: I have nothing to tell you. I don't know why you're acting all suspicious all of a sudden.
Rafe: Well, simply because when I interrupted you and EJ earlier, I didn't think that you were being honest with me. So am I right? Is there something you want to tell me?
Justin: I am done being the good guy. To hell with that.
Hope: Maggie, are you okay?
Rafe: Sydney might already be back in your arms if it wasn't for EJ.
