Bo: Hey, it's okay.

Carly: No, it's not okay. All right, I come here because my life is a disaster, and what do I do? I spread it around. Your marriage is in trouble, but hey, Carly, make it worse for him.

Bo: Calm down, would you?

Carly: No, I saw this coming. Hope walks into her own house and sees me coming on to her husband...

Bo: The world does not revolve around you. You weren't the only one in the room.

Carly: I--

Bo: My marriage with Hope is over. And that's got nothing to do with you.

Victor: Vivian, I am begging here now, would you please slow down?

Vivian: Whatever happened to "knock yourself out"?

Victor: Well, I didn't mean that literally. You've gotta think this thing through.

Vivian: I can’t. I'm delirious. I'm deliriously happy. I now know that I can destroy Carly and her entire pathetic life.

Victor: Exactly--we're talking about destroying a woman. Will you stop nattering like some magpie?

Vivian: But Victor, if you could have just heard her. It was insane.

Victor: Just be quiet.

Vivian: She couldn't handle anything.

Victor: Shut up! Now settle down. Take a breath. Take a drink.

Vivian: Okay.

Victor: Calm. Now tell me, what is it that has you so excited?

Vivian: I now know that Carly is falling apart from the pressure.

Victor: I would certainly hope so. Otherwise you're wasting your time.

Vivian: Well, people make you think that it's so simple to get a corpse into a hospital bed. Well, it takes commitment and perseverance.

Victor: And a great deal of ready cash. It was a good move, by the way, letting her know from the beginning she's not safe in the hospital.

Vivian: Victor, coming from you that means so much.

Victor: So what happened?

Vivian: So anyway, I was working on her, warming her up, you know, using the "b" material-- oblique threats, mentioning her dead husband and that sort of thing. And I was just getting started when she just-- well, I mean, she fell apart. She had a meltdown. I couldn't even get to the big stuff.

Victor: That is interesting.

Vivian: Interesting? It was heartwarming. I now know that I am primed to go in for the kill.

EJ: You already checked that pocket twice.

Troy: Well, I--

EJ: Lost your phone. Not the phone that I gave you. Not your business phone, Troy. Not the phone with my number in it, hmm? I suggest you tell me where that phone is while you still can.

Arianna: Oh, my God. Oh, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Roman wants to know who's running the drug ring here in Salem? I just got his number.

Rafe: What is it?

Sami: I just have to make sure that I do the right thing.

Rafe: Is this about Sydney? Has something happened?

Sami: Yeah, it's about Sydney.

Carly: I know that you and Hope had problems before I showed up.

Bo: Problems? She moved out of the house. She took our daughter with her.

Carly: I know, and there's nothing I can do about that. But I can try not to make it worse.

Bo: You know, you act like I had nothing to do with that kiss.

Carly: Maybe it wasn't me. Maybe it's just all the drama, Bo.

Bo: Carly... things happened between us. And I'm not sorry they did.

Victor: So you planning another quiet little funeral, whether Carly’s dead or not?

Vivian: Victor, I learned a lesson from that little incident. I realize that in the past I have perhaps been a little impulsive.

Victor: Impulsive? Oh, I don't think you can categorize burying someone alive as impulsive. Takes a bit of planning.

Vivian: Well, maybe I didn't give it that much thought-- as much thought as I've given this. 'Cause I realized that Lawrence’s papers are a gift from him from the higher up. From the gods of justice.

Victor: Rein it in, Viv. Rein it in.

Vivian: Right, right. Well, thanks to those papers, I have the goods on Carly. I have the terrible secret that can blow her out of the water.

Victor: You have part of the secret.

Vivian: But I have the most important part. If I know that Carly had a ch--

[Victor sneezes]

Vivian: Bless you.

Justin: Are you being punished? They won't let you inside?

Victor: Hope, I didn't realize you were there.

Rafe: Did something happen?

Sami: I was gonna ask you the same thing. What happened with the, um-- the FBI guy?

Rafe: The lead didn't pan out. Sorry.

Sami: No, it's just-- I was just hoping that...

Rafe: I know. I know.

Sami: Oh, God, I hate this. I hate that I just-- I just don't know what to do!

Vivian: How long were you standing there?

Victor: Oh, Vivian, it sounds like an accusation. It worries me that you didn't feel free to just walk right in, Hope. Justin. I want you to feel like this is your home. I don't want to think of you lingering in hallways, as if you're not welcome.

Hope: Oh, no, no, no, no. I don't feel like that at all. Justin and I, we just got here. Right?

Justin: Right.

EJ: Do you like cinema, Troy? You like movies? You like gangster films?

Troy: Yeah.

EJ: Yeah, me too. You know, in every gangster film there's always this character-- this flunky-- and you just know right from the beginning of that film... he's not gonna make it to the end.

Troy: Oh, Mr. DiMera, please. I'll get it back.

EJ: True to form, he's always just groveling and sniveling right at the end of the movie. Now, I have no calls on my phone, Troy. Which presents you with a small window of opportunity to find your phone.

Troy: Java. I must have left it at Java Cafe.

EJ: Good. This is kind of like a reality television show or something, I suppose. If you find your phone before somebody calls mine, maybe you get to live.

Roman: All right, yeah. Let me know the second he gets to Java. Okay. Well, looks like you got a break.

Arianna: Here. So what happens when Troy finds out that I'm the one that has his phone?

Roman: Well, first things first. With a little luck it could be that by the time he gets there, we'll have a warrant waiting for him.

Arianna: We're gonna need that luck because, um, the phone's locked. I couldn't get to the contact list. I couldn't see the calls that were made or received.

Roman: Ah, these drug runners--so secretive. Where's the trust?

Arianna: You don't seem worried about this.

Roman: Look at me. I'm a happy man. This almost never happens. I have a search warrant for this phone. And inside this phone is the name and number of the guy who's going down for what he did to the kids in my town.

Arianna: You don't have the password.

Roman: I don't need a password. I've got right on my side. And more importantly, I have this.

Anna: Hey.

Man: You know they give you a nickel back for each of these bags you use?

Anna: Yeah, well, we have to keep the planet healthy for her.

Man: I've learned a lot working for you. Diapers--green.

Anna: Mm-hmm.

Man: Oh, baby food--organic.

Anna: Yes, and I've been recycling magazines. So...the DiMera mansion. What's going on? Anything unusual happen?

Man: No, same old same old. The kid's mother and the boyfriend are still there. Okay, Frank said he will call if they leave or if anybody new shows up. But it's all pretty quiet.

Anna: Yeah, well, that's what they want us to think. So there's no way of knowing whether or not they got my note?

Rafe: Want to go home?

Sami: No. Thank you.

Rafe: All right, listen, I'm not trying to hassle you, but EJ's not even here.

Sami: I know. I mean, he said--

Rafe: Yeah, he's got business, right? Important business, obviously, because it's more important than trying to find his own daughter.

Sami: That's not true.

Rafe: Or listening to you, seeing how you feel.

Sami: Oh, I don't care what he thinks about how I feel, okay? Look, he's just distancing himself from his feelings. That's how he deals with stuff.

Rafe: Yeah, he's distancing himself so he can make more money.

Sami: You do the same thing. I didn't mean it like that. I just-- I'm sorry, it's not true.

Rafe: No, it's okay. I know get all FBI sometimes.

Sami: I don't want to fight, okay? I don’t. I don't want-- I don't want to let this come between us.

Rafe: I'm sorry, okay? And I'm telling you, I really do try with that guy, it's just--

Sami: I know. I know you can't stand him. I mean, we just have to deal with the fact that he's Sydney’s father.

Rafe: Yes, he is Sydney’s father. So that puts him in charge.

EJ: Fine. You know what, if you want to tell him, you go ahead. If we don't find our daughter, it's on your head, sweetheart.

Sami: Oh, God, I just wish you could tell me what to do.

Bo: You shouldn't be alone. Vivian's closing in on you.

Carly: All right, so I can't have anything to do with my daughter until I figure out how to stop her. I get it.

Bo: Till we figure out how to stop her. We're in this together.

Vivian: Well, it's so good that you came in when you did because we were discussing our New Year’s Eve plans in Chicago. Dining, dancing. I know a divine supper club on the lake. Victor in his white tie and tails, and I will be so very, very...Ginger Rogers.

Hope: Sounds lovely, but I already promised Ciara that we'd stay up late and watch movies.

Justin: And I promised myself I'd catch up on my torts.

Victor: Well, it's probably just as well, then. Vivian and I are planning on having fun. You don't seem to be into that so much these days. Listen, I've got to go run some errands. Would you care to join me?

Vivian: I'd love to. Hope, your perfume is divine. It wafts in just ahead of you.

Victor: You know, I was watching an old Groucho Marx movie the other night dubbed in Italian. It was sort of like talking to Vivian.

Hope: I agree. Thank you for backing me up.

Justin: I'm a lawyer. I love lying. Now can you tell me why I had to do that?

EJ: Wait, Troy. Come back. I'll disarm the phone before you retrieve it.

Troy: Disarm it?

EJ: Yeah. Our I.T. guy came up with this bit of software that allows me to disarm your phone, get rid of all the contacts in it, using my phone. Do you know what I told him when he told me about this piece of software? I told him we'd never need it. Because I said that nobody who worked for me would ever be stupid enough to lose their phone. Especially when you consider what the consequences are.

Troy: I am sorry--

EJ: Yeah, you keep saying that, Troy, but it really doesn't do anything, does it? Let's see what we can do with this. Damn!

Arianna: What are you doing?

Roman: Switching sim cards. Once a police-issue card is in, I have the code to open this phone. Okay, there it is.

[Phone beeps]

Roman: And here we go.

Rafe: I feel like there's something you're not telling me. Something happen with EJ?

[Cell phone rings]

Sami: Oh, God.

Rafe: It's my friend again. Yep. Hernandez. Yeah. You sure? No, no, no, I understand. I know you are. Thank you.

Sami: Not good news?

Rafe: They tracked down another woman who bought a pair of those boots. Took a long time because she paid in cash.

Sami: But she had an alibi.

Rafe: Yeah. And a really strong accent. So it couldn't have been the woman that Nicole remembers. I'm sorry. So you were gonna tell me what happened.

Carly: Nope. Nope, nope, nope. I'm not letting you do that. Helping me has cost you way too much already.

Bo: Whoa, this is not your call. Vivian is in my jurisdiction. I don't need your permission to monitor what that woman's up to. Victor, that--

Carly: What? What about Victor?

Bo: Talk about aiding and abetting. That woman shouldn't be allowed to get a motel room in this town, much less being ensconced in a mansion. Guess he's not happy unless he's got some scum living under his roof.

Carly: Even more reason not to help me. You're gonna compromise your relationship with your father.

Bo: My relationship.

Carly: Yeah.

Bo: This is not a family squabble. This is about a dangerous woman playing a dangerous game. We can't let her find your daughter.

Carly: It has always been so easy to change your mind.

Bo: I'm gonna call Interpol. They must have a whole department devoted to that wench.

Carly: Okay, stop, stop! I can't stop you from helping me, okay, professionally. But I want this on the table. I don't want to be the other woman in your fight with Hope.

Hope: So Vivian apparently knows something about Carly’s secret, but not all of it.

Justin: And you were about to hear the whole story when I blundered in?

Hope: You know what, from the way Victor was talking to her, he already knows everything that she does.

Justin: Aha. So they've formed an unholy alliance.

Hope: Justin, they were talking about destroying her like they were deciding what to have for lunch.

Justin: Okay, so what about your plan to befriend Vivian? You know, it's hard for me to even say "befriend Vivian."

Hope: I told you I dropped that.

Justin: Good. Good, it's like befriending a boa constrictor-- you have to watch out for the hugs.

Hope: Not funny.

Justin: Okay. I'm sorry. Wait a minute, you're not this upset because of what I said about Vivian, are you? Hope, what's going on? What happened?

Hope: When I went to my house-- scratch that. It's not my house. When I went to Bo’s house... I saw them kissing.

Justin: I'm sorry.

EJ: You'd better pray this battery doesn't die, Troy, or I swear to God you will.

Roman: All right, come on. Come on, baby, talk to me. Talk to me.

Arianna: Did you get through?

Roman: Yes. All right. Do you recognize any of these numbers?

[Phone beeps]

Arianna: What just happened?

Roman: Damn it!

Arianna: The screen went blank.

Roman: He's wiped the memory. Very high-tech. So...

Arianna: So now what?

Roman: So we know your doofus friend Troy isn't capable of this. So that tells me he knows his phone is missing and he's already told his boss.

Arianna: Man!

Roman: You've got a new set of problems.

Rafe: So what happened, Sami? If I know you, I know something did. Did EJ do this? Is he making things worse?

Sami: No, no, it's not that.

Rafe: Did you two have a fight? Is that why he left?

Sami: We had a disagreement. Because, well, EJ just feels--

[Cell phone rings]

Rafe: Damn it...

Sami: No.

Rafe: Sorry.

Sami: No, it might be about Sydney. It's okay.

Rafe: Hernandez. Yeah. No, I think you're right. He's not here right now. Listen, I'm gonna have to call you back about this, okay? All right, thanks again.

Sami: What? What is it?

Rafe: They want to start surveillance around the house.

Sami: Around this house? But don't you think Sydney’s kidnapper would notice?

Rafe: Well, no, because they would disguise themselves as gardeners or maids or whatever.

Sami: But come on, I mean, obviously this person isn't stupid. Whoever took Sydney, they're gonna notice all these new faces, right?

Rafe: Yeah, they may have knowledge of the house and the staff, but the agency thinks it's time. They do this by the book.

Sami: What if there was a ransom note? What does that mean, you know, "by the book"?

Rafe: It means they would arrange to pay, and they would put tracking devices on the money or the briefcase or whatever the money was in.

Sami: A tracking device? And then the kidnapper finds the tracking device, and what happens to Sydney?

Vivian: Victor, I swear she was right outside the door listening to our private conversation.

Victor: Private? So private, you talking in your outside voice in a room with all the doors open.

Vivian: Well, you could have stopped me. Hope could go to Carly.

Victor: And tell her what? That you're plotting against her? After the corpse with the flower in her hair, I don't think she's going to take that as a surprise.

Vivian: Well, I almost mentioned Carly’s bastard child.

Victor: Well, I stopped you.

Vivian: Aha! The sneeze. You are the master.

Victor: And don't you forget it.

Vivian: And I want you to guide me. Now, this is not just for me. We're going to get rid of Carly, and Bo and Hope are going to live happily ever after.

Victor: Yeah, well, they haven't managed that yet. All right, so you know Carly has a child, but you don't know who it is. What do you do next?

Vivian: I'm expecting Carly to lead me to said child. There's nothing she does that I don't know about.

Carly: I feel like I've got my babysitter walking me to work.

Bo: Well, you do.

Carly: Vivian's not gonna attack me in the waiting room, Bo.

Bo: I'm sure she's got somebody watching you, and I want that person to report back to her who your babysitter is.

Carly: And don't you think that Hope's gonna get that same information?

Bo: Would you stop worrying about that? You've got enough on your plate with Vivian.

Carly: Look, I can't-- I took an oath to do no harm, okay? I can't kid myself. I think I'm doing Hope a lot of harm.

Justin: Hope--

Hope: Don't, please. Don’t. You hug me, I cry. And I can't do that. I can't do it anymore. Besides, I'm not even sure I deserve any sympathy.

Justin: Your marriage is in trouble.

Hope: My family wanted a Horton Christmas to make everything better. But you know what, this isn't about everyone else. It's about me, and it's about Bo.

Justin: And it's about one more key player. Hope, what are you gonna do about Carly?

Sami: Yeah, but I mean, you don't always go by the book, right? You don't always think it's the right thing to do.

Rafe: No, I don’t. But it is good in that it keeps people from making emotional decisions.

Sami: Right, but it keeps people from being flexible, you know. And I get the feeling that the FBI just wants to make sure they catch the bad guy. They don't want to just make sure that Sydney comes back safely.

Rafe: All right, that is not true. Now, I know that it is not.

Sami: So what if there was a ransom note? There's no possibility of just doing what the kidnappers want?

Rafe: Sami, we do not let them know what we are doing.

Sami: You'd try not to let them know.

Rafe: Are you losing faith in me?

Sami: No, no, Rafe. It's not about you! It's about the FBI. And about doing things by the book. You know, you did a lot of things that weren't by the book when you were helping me in the safe house, you know.

Rafe: Oh, yeah, you're right. That was stupid, and I could have gotten you killed. Now, Sami, listen to me. Listen...your dad's a cop. There are thousands of reasons for following orders. You hear me?

Sami: Yeah. Yeah, I do, and-- and I'm really glad that we talked about it. I'm really glad. I know how you feel.

Rafe: Okay. Good, good.

Troy: Look, Mr. DiMera, I've worked really hard for you. I've brought in a lot of money. One mistake--

EJ: Well, that's not entirely true, is it, now. I mean, Miss Hernandez has brought in a huge amount of money. I like her. I could see her working her way up. You know, once we get rid of some of the dead wood.

Troy: Mr. DiMera, you're really--you're really kinda starting to scare me here.

EJ: Yeah? Then maybe you're not as stupid as you look, Troy.

Roman: Okay, what we have to worry about now is your cover.

Arianna: Yeah. Troy's gonna know it was me. I mean, he is gonna realize that I was the last person that he was with when he had his cell phone at Java.

Roman: He thinks he knows who took his phone. We have to make him think he's wrong about that.

Arianna: Okay.

Roman: Yeah. Yeah, it's me. I have an assignment for you.

Man: You seem pretty sure of yourself. Now, what if something goes wrong and the feds get involved?

Anna: That's not gonna happen. Look, if they're not involved by now, it's just not gonna happen. [Chuckles]

Rafe: Well, you ready to go now, hmm?

Sami: Oh, no. I think we should wait till EJ gets back.

Rafe: Right. Exactly. We can always fill him in on everything that's happened when he gets back from doing whatever big business deals he's doing, right?

Sami: Oh, come on, no. I hate being here too.

Rafe: You know what I hate, I hate not being able to do anything. I wasn't wired to sit around.

Sami: I know.

Rafe: Sami, I think it's really important that we be honest with each other.

Sami: What?

Rafe: I'm beginning to think that there isn't going to be a ransom note.

Sami: Oh.

Rafe: I think if this was about money, whoever it is would have made a move by now. And if it's not about money, well, let's just say it'd be simpler if it were.

Sami: Right.

Rafe: I'm sorry, maybe I shouldn't have said that. I just feel it's really important that we be honest with each other right now.

Victor: Playing hangman?

Vivian: What?

Victor: Oh, you just like to draw gallows. I take it that's Carly.

Vivian: Uh, well... don't you think it's nice to look forward to tomorrow?

Victor: I must say your dedication to your task is truly inspirational. You make Medea seem wishy-washy. All right, so when you find the identity of Carly’s child, what do you do next?

Vivian: I am going to make Carly feel just the way she made me feel. I'm going to take her child, just the way she took Lawrence away from me.

Bo: You haven't done anything to harm Hope.

Carly: I don't think Hope would agree with that.

Bo: Before you came back to Salem, Hope said there was something wrong between the two of us. And it wasn't just about the kidnapping. It-- she said it went all the way back to Zack.

Carly: What?

Bo: Well, she was right. And my feeling-- this would not have happened if Hope and I hadn't already been in big trouble.

Carly: All right, look, you know what, you're not gonna hurt my feelings if you agree that maybe what you feel for me has less to do with me and more about being angry with Hope.

Bo: Oh, my--

Carly: Maybe if the two of you weren't in trouble, then none of this--

Bo: Would you stop this! We're both adults here. We know what happened. I was not thinking about Hope while I was kissing you.

Carly: You weren't thinking about anything.

Bo: Yeah. That's the great thing about kissing... you don't think, you can't talk. And Hope and I, we, uh... we talk and talk and talk and never accomplish anything. We don't resolve-- whatever, I don't-- I don't want that to happen with us.

Carly: Okay, look, I know you don't need any more of that. I get that. But I have a solution. This will go no further.

Hope: All right, I take responsibility for a failed marriage. But honestly, do I need to worry about Carly?

Justin: Not in terms of Bo.

Hope: Right. She seems to be doing just fine in terms of Bo.

Justin: What about Vivian? You know she now knows Carly’s secret.

Hope: Yeah, but only part of it.

Justin: And she's not gonna stop until she finds out all of it. And then she's gonna use it to ruin Carly’s life.

Hope: I... something bad could happen to Carly. How could I go on? Oh, God... how I will miss walking in, seeing her throw herself at my husband.

Justin: Good. So you don't care.

Hope: I told you, I don't want him back. I thought I made myself clear.

Justin: Right, you don't want him back any more than you'd like to see something bad happen to Carly.

Hope: Damn you, Justin, I mean it, okay?

Justin: You're a good person, Hope. And if you don't try and stop Vivian, it will eat away at you. You won't be able to live with yourself.

Hope: Sometimes I just hate being me.

Troy: Why am I not surprised?

Woman: Hi, um, are you looking for this?

Troy: Yeah, I was.

Woman: After that pretty girl left, I took your table, and it was just sitting there, so I figured one of you would be coming back for it.

Troy: What a relief. You know what, I can't live without it.

Woman: Oh, weird, though, I kept it on just in case you called, but it just died. I'm sorry.

Troy: Yeah, it needed to be recharged. You know what, thanks a million. I--I really appreciate it. You know what, let me-- let me pay you for your troubles.

Woman: Oh, no, please. Just pay it forward.

Rafe: Are you mad at me? Did that upset you? I'm sorry.

Sami: No. No. No. I just love you. I love you so much, and I am so lucky to have you in my corner.

Rafe: You're a Brady. You have 9,000 people in your corner.

Sami: But you are there 'cause you want to be.

Rafe: Yeah. And nothing is gonna change that. We're in this together, like I said. I'm here for you no matter what.

Bo: Great...a woman with an ultimatum. I need more of them in my life.

Carly: I'm right. I'm usually right.

Bo: Yes, you are right. So we'll table any discussion about feelings until we solve this situation with Vivian. We do not want her to find your daughter.

Carly: No, no, you're right. So in that case, maybe we should start with the hospital in Switzerland where she was born, and just see how much Vivian’s learned.

Rafe: Yeah. The director of the hospital gets in at 7:30 Swiss time. I'll call him then.

Carly: Is that your way of saying that you don't need my input?

Bo: No. Actually I was gonna say great minds think alike.

Carly: Are you thinking what I think you're thinking?

Bo: Great minds think alike.

Carly: I'm beginning to get that impression.

Bo: Well, let's see what I can do to help it along.

Hope: You're right, I have to do something.

Justin: I'm always right.

Hope: But I'm not gonna tell Bo and Carly. I don't know anything yet.

Justin: So? And...

Hope: All right, I wouldn't be completely depressed to handle Vivian myself... and then tell Bo.

Justin: Sounds like a plan. I can't wait.

Hope: Hmm?

Justin: I'll play Watson to your Holmes. Hastings to your Poirot. Danny Glover to your Mel Gibson.

Hope: Justin...slow down. A lot of detectives work in silence. Lawyers talk. Detectives think. Silence. What?

Justin: I was just thinking about what Vivian said about New Year’s Eve.

Hope: "A very, very Ginger Rogers"?

Justin: About them going to Chicago.

Hope: All right, you can stay.

Arianna: Hi. What can I get you?

Troy: Coffee, I guess.

Arianna: Okay. You didn't have enough at Java?

Troy: Actually, I really want to talk to you. I think I kind of cut you off when you were talking about wanting to move up the organizational ladder.

Arianna: Oh, it's all right, really.

Troy: Look, I just want to say maybe I reacted that way 'cause you're doing such a great job where you are. I, uh-- I overreacted.

Arianna: Really, don't worry about it, okay? It's all good.

Troy: So DiMera thinks he can get rid of me because he has you waiting in the wings. I don't think so. I think you're gonna have a serious accident.

EJ: Sorry, didn't think that would take so long.

Rafe: Oh, well, I hope everything worked out. I'll get your coat.

EJ: Not a tough fellow to read, your boyfriend. So...I take it you didn't tell him about the note.

Sami: It feels wrong. I know that Rafe wouldn't do anything to jeopardize Sydney.

EJ: Samantha, this isn't personal. It has nothing to do with him. It has to do with the FBI. I just don't think we can afford to take the risk.

Sami: Well, I didn't tell him, even after everything he's done for me.

Rafe: Ready?

EJ: Not a word, Samantha.

Sami: Yeah. Let's go.

Philip: We're eloping. Tonight.

Nathan: No. No, you're not.

Hope: Time for us to get to work.

Sami: I think I'm gonna tell him about the ransom note. Tonight.
