Carly: It's true... I'm falling in love. I won't bother you again. I'm--
Bo: No, no, no, don't go. You-- you can't leave.
Hope: I know, Gran, it sounds wonderful. It's just... no, no, no, I do-- of course I understand. I love you too, so much. Yeah, yeah, I'll-- I'll get right back to you. Okay, Gran. Bye.
Lexie: Uh-oh, you've got that "It's Christmas and I'm a mother" look.
Hope: Hey, Lex.
Hope: Remember when we were kids and we just thought at Christmastime that everything just happened magically?
Lexie: Yeah, with no idea of the stress and the headaches involved. I swear, late December, I see my shifts at the hospital as down time. Okay, something's going on with you. What's wrong?
Hope: Bo and I have to make a decision together... when we don't seem to do anything together.
Sami: Someone in Salem bought the boots that Nicole saw?
Rafe: That's right.
EJ: Well, come on, spit it out, Rafe!
Rafe: Stefano's new bride. Your stepmother... Kate DiMera.
Kate: Oh, where the hell is this guard? I have to get out of here.
Stefano: Go ahead, go ahead. Don't wait for me, huh?
Kate: No, because then I wouldn't be a dutiful wife.
Stefano: Yes, but it's what I want you to do. God knows how long it's gonna take them to do this. I want you to contact Marco, all right, and tell him I want new resources on the hunt for Sydney. Okay, he'll know what to do.
Kate: All right. But if you're not back in one hour, I'm coming back with a file baked into a cake.
Stefano: All right, Katherine, wait, wait, wait. Make sure you tell him about the new development-- that we are most certainly looking for a woman. Mmm.
Anna: Oh...she is such a dear, Tony. Sweet as the day is long. It's hard to believe she has your father's blood in her. That evil, evil man. I will do whatever it takes to make sure that she doesn't have to grow up in the hell that you did, my darling.
Will: What are you talking about?
Chad: I'm talking about Mia saying she was going to the dance with me. And saying the same thing to you.
Will: Man, you are so full of it. Isn't he, Mia? Isn't he?
Gabi: Seems like old times. Old, really boring times.
Arianna: Wait a minute, I thought you were anxious to help me.
Gabi: I forgot how annoying it was.
Arianna: Do you have something better to do this evening?
Gabi: Don't ask questions like that.
Arianna: That would mean no.
Gabi: Actually, I was invited to the White House for carols. But I'd rather sit here and wrap tamales with my bossy sister.
Arianna: Aw, I love you too.
Gabi: Well, at least this year you'll have Christmas with Rafe.
Arianna: Right. That'll be nice. I don't know how it's gonna be for him and Sami, though... without Sydney.
Gabi: Do you think they've given up on finding her?
Arianna: No. They never will.
Sami: Kate? Oh, my God.
EJ: When you questioned my father, he was drugged, so he had to tell the truth, right? Okay, now, you specifically asked him if a woman was involved.
Sami: She's not a woman, she's a barracuda!
EJ: Maybe he found some way of neutralizing the truth serum.
Rafe: No, he couldn't neutralize it. He didn't have a chance. My only guess is that Kate's acting alone.
EJ: I'll tell you this much... when my father finds out, she's a dead woman.
Anna: Such a time-consuming way to write a letter.
Carly: You--you say I can't leave, and then you don't say anything.
Bo: Uh, a bit taken aback.
Carly: I could tell.
Bo: Yeah, well, this thing, um--
Carly: Yeah, um...
Bo: This thing with Vivian, it's, you know-- you do realize she's just getting warmed up, right?
Bo: You know, that whole business with the corpse in the bed-- I'm gonna file a police report.
Carly: Yeah, I really threw you.
Bo: Of course it threw me. It's a morbid, sick joke. If this is the way she's starting out--
Carly: No, I--I-- I threw you. I threw you. I'm not talking about her. When I said to you how I feel. That--you were here. You remember that.
Bo: Yeah. Yeah.
Carly: Okay. We're just--we're gonna pretend like it didn't happen.
Carly: All right?
Bo: I'm sorry, I don't know what to say.
Hope: And my dad and Julie, I know they think that if we have Christmas at our house there'll some kind of Horton Christmas miracle and all our problems will just go away.
Lexie: And an angel will get his wings.
Hope: Exactly. Oh, God, Lex, I can see it right now. Them biting their tongues to keep from saying, "Why are you putting Ciara through this?" Why am I putting her through this?
Lexie: I'm sorry.
Hope: He thinks I'm just jealous of Carly. Maybe I am. But I think I have a damn good reason to. It's like she staked a claim on him, and her claim trumps everything. Me, our marriage, everything.
Lexie: Hope, I'm-- we are married to men who protect people.
Hope: No, no, no, no. I'm sorry, I can see where you're going with this. And I have to say I don't buy the whole Carly-as-victim scenario. Come on, Lex. She looks like she could hunt bears with a switch, for God sakes.
Lexie: Hope, I-- but you know, I've got to tell you she does have an enemy out here. You won't believe what Vivian Alamain pulled last night. After one of Carly's patients was released, she managed to have a corpse--uh-huh--
Lexie: Put in the bed for Carly to find.
Hope: Oh, my God!
Hope: What happened then?
Lexie: What do you mean?
Hope: Who did she call, Lex? Who did she call?
Will: Come on, Mia, tell him that he's full of it.
Mia: It's complicated.
Will: No, it's not. Okay, he just said that you said you'd go to the dance with him. Which isn't true... right?
Mia: Uh, actually it kind of is.
Sami: Thank you.
EJ: You okay? Stupid question.
Sami: It's just after all this time, I still can't believe she hates me that much.
Rafe: You think this is about revenge?
Sami: It's not about her love of children.
Rafe: But why? Even if she does want to hurt you, isn't it crazy for her to go after Stefano's grandchild?
EJ: Maybe not. Think about this, my father blackmailed her into marriage. This is just her way of getting a bargaining chip.
Sami: My daughter is no one's bargaining chip!
EJ: All right, okay--
Sami: Not Kate Roberts' or anybody else--
Kate: Harold, I have shopping bags in my car. Could you have them brought up to my room?
Rafe: Wait, now, listen to me. Let's just play this close to the vest.
Sami: You unbelievable bitch!
Kate: What is this? Sami!
Sami: You took my little girl—
Mia: Chad and I were talking about the dance, and he kind of misunderstood.
Chad: I misunderstood?
Mia: Yeah. You said something about "It's a date," and I didn't know what to say.
Chad: Well, you could have said, "No, it's not."
Mia: I didn't want to hurt your feelings.
Chad: What did you think was gonna happen? What, the three of us were gonna go together?
Mia: Chad, I was really messed up. I was really upset. You knew that. I talked to you about it. I don't know what else to say.
Chad: You know what, you don't have to say anything. You only have one date for the dance--problem solved. Hope you guys have fun.
[Door opens and shuts]
Will: So last night, when you were upset, you went and talked to him?
Mia: No. I went to thank him for covering me at work. Can we just forget about all of this?
Will: Yeah. As soon as you tell me one thing. Who do you really want to go to the dance with, Mia? Me or Chad?
Arianna: So what time is your bus in the morning?
Gabi: Early. I don't even want to think about it.
Arianna: Well, I'm gonna miss you.
Gabi: Yeah, now that you and Brady are getting along, you won't have anyone to fight with.
Arianna: You could say you'll miss me.
Gabi: I'll miss you. I guess going home isn't so bad. It's not like I had any kind of life here. Everyone's going to this big dance tonight, and I'm here wrapping tamales with my sister.
Arianna: Hey, I didn't know that. You know, you can go. I can take care of this.
Gabi: I wouldn't go without a date. How desperate would that look?
Arianna: That would look totally desperate. You know what... I'm almost out of corn husks, and we have to make another batch. Is there any way you can run to the store and grab some for me? 'Cause I can't leave the bar.
Gabi: Wow...can't wait to write in my journal tonight. Dear diary, tonight I got to buy corn husks. My heart is still pounding with excitement. [Sighs]
Arianna: Ah, yes. I want change from that 20.
Gabi: I want a new life.
Sami: Just tell me where she is!
EJ: Okay, okay, okay. You, answer the question, Kate!
Kate: How in God's name would I know where your baby is?
Sami: Because you took her and we have proof that you did!
Kate: Oh, okay, first Stefano, now me. I know you're upset, Sami, but this is crazy.
Sami: I'm upset, but you are crazy!
Kate: She's always been delusional--she always has. But you, do you really believe this nonsense?
EJ: This is not nonsense.
Sami: Let go of me! I'll get the truth out of her, I swear to God!
Stefano: What the hell is going on in here? Stay away from my wife or I'll have you all thrown out of here.
Carly: You--you don't have to say anything. And I'm so sorry to put you in this position.
Bo: No, you shouldn't be sorry. I'm to blame for this. It's my fault that this happened.
Carly: No, it's--no. You never led me on. You never encouraged me in any way.
Bo: Well, when you came to Salem, you weren't in a very good place. I should have been much more careful.
Carly: You're not responsible for how I feel.
Bo: I'm not talking about how you feel.
Bo: I'm, you know... not in the best of places either, and it felt good to help you. You know, to make somebody else's life better. And you and I... have a lot of memories. A lot of...very nice memories.
Bo: And those feelings and the things that we shared... we shared an awful lot.
Rafe: Sami, Sami, this isn't helping find Sydney.
Kate: You know, I want her arrested for assault.
EJ: That is gonna be nothing compared to what I do to you if you don't start talking.
Kate: Okay, you know, you're crazy. Stefano, everyone here is absolutely crazy.
Stefano: I'll handle this.
EJ: You know, I'd wait a second before you do that, if I were you. Why don't I tell you what happened before you drag the police into this?
Stefano: All right, I'll bite. What happened?
EJ: We have proof that Kate was involved with the kidnapping.
Kate: Well, you can't have any proof because I didn't do anything.
Stefano: She's telling the truth. She was with me when Sydney was taken.
Sami: Oh, and you never lie.
Stefano: Well, I'll tell you what we do. Why don't you get your friend to slip a little truth serum in my drink, and I'll say the same thing.
EJ: You know, I really don't think that's gonna be necessary, Father. See, we finally identified the owner of the boots that Nicole saw in the bus station. Let me give you a word to the wise, Kate. Next time you commit a federal offense, I suggest you skip the one-of-a-kind footwear. You know the kind. Little gold rivets. Nice leopard-skin panels.
Kate: Hmm, boots... that's what this is all about, boots?
EJ: Ironic, though, isn't it? Your vanity gets you in the end.
Kate: Yeah. Yeah, you know, you're right. Because my vanity made me return those boots. I thought they made my feet look big. But you know, with really expensive boots like that, you can't return them if there's even a scratch on them. I mean, you know that. So obviously you can see from this email that they were returned and never worn.
EJ: She's right. They were never worn and returned two weeks ago.
Kate: Okay, now, can I politely ask for someone to remove that piece of trash from my living room?
Rafe: Let's go.
Sami: We had it. I thought this nightmare was over.
Rafe: I'm sorry. I am so sorry. But you listen to me. We still have the lead. We are gonna find the woman who wore those damn boots, okay?
Anna: All right, sweet Sydney, are you ready for your close-up, huh? You hold this like that, okay? Perfect. Smile for me. Yeah. Yeah. Perfect. Oh, you know what, sweet Sydney, I think this is going to be the best Christmas card ever.
Rafe: Sorry. Well, I shouldn't have told you about Kate until I was sure.
Sami: No, no, it's not that at all. I mean, you can't protect me from everything. And besides, it felt really good to choke her. It's been a long time. It's all right, just-- I just don't know how much longer I can stand this.
Rafe: Hey, hang in there, okay? Just hang in there.
Mia: I want to go to the dance with you. Look, the thing with Chad-- we were talking, and usually he just shuts me out. But we were actually talking, and when he said that about the dance, I just didn't want to hurt him. So I hope you can forgive me, and that you'll give me another chance.
Will: I'll pick you up at 7:00. Hi, Maggie.
Will: I'll talk to you later.
Maggie: Okay. Sorry. Seemed like I came in at a bad moment.
Mia: It's hard to come in when I'm not having a bad moment.
Maggie: You want to tell me what happened?
Mia: Well, I'm supposed to go to the dance with Will, but then Chad thought that I was going with him too. And then Chad was here, and pretty much everybody is just mad at everybody.
Maggie: Hmm, well, it sounds like you're gonna have a real good night.
Gabi: Hey. You look like you're in a good mood.
Chad: Oh, I'm--I'm great. Not really.
Gabi: Isn't the dance starting in, like, a couple of hours?
Chad: Yeah, it is.
Gabi: And you're still not getting ready? Girls like it when the guy showers.
Chad: Look, I'm, uh-- I'm not going. Mia's going with Will.
Gabi: Oh. I'm sorry.
Chad: No, don't be sorry. All you are is right.
Gabi: My lot in life. Guess I'm always right. Well, I'm off to buy corn husks. Hope I don't get attacked by the paparazzi.
Chad: Uh, Gabi... um, come to the dance with me.
Chad: Look, if it sounds like I'm just asking because Mia dumped me, I'm not. But you know, I'd understand if you said no.
Gabi: So you think you can ask me to the dance that starts in two hours...like I have nothing better to do?
Gabi: Sounds great to me. If you take a shower.
Hope: Carly... are you all right?
Carly: Excuse me?
Hope: Lexie told me about the incident with the corpse last night.
Carly: Oh, um, yeah. Vivian strikes again. Apparently age hasn't mellowed her.
Hope: Or improved her sense of humor.
Carly: Right. You know what, I think I've taken up enough of Bo's time. And I'll think about what you said. Okay, thanks.
Hope: She sure doesn't need Vivian in her life right now. After everything else.
Bo: No one needs Vivian in their life. You came here for a reason?
Hope: Yeah, I needed to talk to you about Christmas.
Hope: Well, Gran's not up to having it this year. And the family consensus is we should have it here... at our home.
Bo: Even though you and Ciara aren't living here?
Hope: I think that-- I think that they think it'll bring us back together.
Bo: Okay. Is that what you want?
Stefano: Katherine, I'm very sorry for my son's attitude with you, but you know, he's been under a lot of stress.
Kate: Well, I've heard worse from my own sons.
Stefano: [Chuckles] Family. Oh, it can be exhausting. Salud.
Kate: You know, you don't have to defend me. You don't have to defend me from EJ, I can take it.
Stefano: I know that you can, but that does not give him license to talk that way. I will not have anyone talk to you like that, all right? Certainly not someone I love.
Stefano: Oh, excuse me.
Lexie: I got your message. So you're home.
Stefano: Ah, yes, indeed. Home for Christmas. It's going to be wonderful. Listen, do me a favor, will you, please? Tell Theo that he and I will set up the train together, see, so Christmas morning, when--
Lexie: Father. About Christmas... you need to know we won't be there.
Arianna: May I?
EJ: Yeah. Sure.
Arianna: What are you doing here?
EJ: Just having a drink. But I saw you, actually. I wanted to tell you how sorry I was.
Arianna: Well, you've already apologized, so...
EJ: I don't think enough. I know you didn't have anything to do with taking Sydney. It was really inexcusable of me to accuse you.
Arianna: You're under a lot of stress. And you know what, it doesn't look like things are getting any better for you, so...
EJ: We got a lead today. God, I hoped so. [Clears throat] But it was a dead end.
Arianna: You know, um, I think that if the person who took Sydney saw the look in your eyes right now, they would give her back. They would have to.
EJ: You've just given me an idea. Excuse me. So, uh, have a lovely Christmas.
Arianna: Thank you. Hey. Where are the corn husks?
Gabi: At the store. I didn't have time to get them. I have to go get ready for the dance.
Arianna: Wait a minute. The dance? The one that you'd look, like, totally desperate if you went to it alone dance?
Gabi: I have a date. And he's so hot.
Arianna: Oh, that's great!
Arianna: He's not hot? No.
Gabi: I don't have anything to wear.
Arianna: Uh, hello, that's why God gave you a big sister. Come with me.
Mia: Are you mad at me?
Maggie: Why would I be mad at you?
Mia: Because when Chad asked me, I didn't say no. And I liked the fact that we were talking. And I liked the fact that he wanted to take me to the dance.
Maggie: What? You liked it that a boy wanted to take you to a dance? What am I gonna do with you?
Mia: It's not funny.
Maggie: Oh, I know. And it's not serious. Honey, look, what I walked in on... Will, he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. And you've been through hell. What should have been a little speed bump seems like a mountain. Just don't over-think it, okay? When he comes to pick you up, you tell him how handsome he is. And then try, just try to be a couple of kids going to a dance. You both deserve that.
Will: Tell the twins I have that surprise for 'em.
Sami: What is it?
Will: It's a secret, okay? Well, I gotta go.
Sami: Okay. Have fun tonight. Okay? Try to have fun.
Will: I'll try.
Sami: I love that kid.
Rafe: Really? Hadn't noticed.
Sami: Oh, stop it. I mean, can you imagine, he-- he's planning this surprise for the twins 'cause he wants them to have a good Christmas.
Rafe: That's great.
Sami: How many kids have an older brother that's looking after them like that?
Rafe: Probably not that many. They are very lucky.
Sami: You still have faith that we're gonna get Sydney back, don't you?
Rafe: Of course I have faith. Tis the season, right?
[Knock on door]
Sami: I'll get it.
EJ: Samantha, look, I have an idea to get Sydney back, and I need your help.
Sami: Have you heard anything?
EJ: No, I haven't. But listen, I was just talking to somebody, and they gave me an idea as to how we can talk to, you know, whoever has Sydney, wherever they happen to be.
Rafe: What, like an on-air appeal?
EJ: No, no, not an on-air appeal. I--I thought we could have a Christmas Eve vigil. You know, really dramatize how many people love Sydney and are waiting for her to come home. I mean, I can offer a reward. And I was thinking, Samantha, maybe...
EJ: Well, I was hoping that you and I might pray together.
Sami: I think that's a wonderful idea.
Kate: Is that bad news?
Stefano: Apparently the Carver family has important plans for Christmas. They said they don't have enough time to spend with us.
Kate: I'm sorry.
Stefano: You know, that man always brings out Alexandra's judgmental side. I don't know. [Chuckles] I should be used to it by now.
Kate: Hmm. Well, I have to say I don't think my sons are going to be joining us for eggnog either. I have a feeling they think their mother deserves coal in her stockings.
Stefano: Katherine, has it ever occurred to you that the younger generation is rigid? I mean, unbending?
Kate: Thank you! Thank you! Oh, my God, I have done so much for Lucas. I mean-- I mean, I know I've meddled a little bit, but it was always with love.
Stefano: And arsenic. Oh, yes. Oh, Katherine, this last year has been a hellish year in many ways, but you know, it's also the year that I won your hand.
Kate: With the help of some damning forensic evidence.
Stefano: Oh, who cares how it happened? The important thing is that it happened. And we are going to spend Christmas together. And you know something... I cannot think of anyone I would rather be with. My dear, dear partner in crime.
Kate: Stefano, you say the sweetest things to me.
Hope: I feel like I'm being set up to be the bad guy here. Are you asking me if I want us to get back together, or do I want to have Christmas here?
Bo: Answer whichever question you want.
Hope: I want us to get back together. If we can solve the problems that we seem to have. I don't want us to just reconcile to make our families happy, and then go through all of this three months later.
Bo: I don't want to do that either.
Hope: I think about-- I think about all of the Christmases we've had, and how great they've been. You know, writing Christmas cards at the dining room table and listening to you curse as you put the tree in the stand.
Bo: Or when I come down the steps in the middle of the night seeing you trying to break into your presents.
Hope: Ciara coming down the stairs...Christmas morning.
Bo: How 'bout this-- we have Christmas here, knowing that it might not change anything, but hoping that it will. What do you say to that?
Maggie: [Gasps] Oh, be still, my heart. You look like a million bucks, Will.
Will: Yeah, and you're totally unbiased, right?
Maggie: Oh, come in here. Wait till you see Mia.
Maggie: Turn around, turn around. That's it, that's it.
Will: You look amazing.
Maggie: Help her with the corsage.
Will: Oh, yeah.
Maggie: Smile. Oh--oh, that is so cute!
Will: Okay. Oh, did I tell you? We're meeting T and Kinsey at the pub.
Mia: Oh, um, do you think Chad's gonna be there? 'Cause, uh, you know, I kind of feel bad that he has to go stag because of me.
Will: No, no, no. Don't worry about Chad, okay? I'm sure he'll think of something.
Gabi: I look like I'm going to a PTA meeting.
Arianna: That's my best dress.
Gabi: Like I said, I look like I'm going to a PTA meeting. This isn't going to work. Just tell Chad I'm not going to the dance.
Bo: Okay. I think we should do this. If only for Ciara.
Hope: Right. Of course. I mean, as long as we both know that it's not necessarily a commitment.
Bo: All it is is a family Christmas Eve.
Hope: Okay. All right, then I'll see you. I'll see you Christmas Eve. Thank you.
Bo: Fancy Face, you—
[Cell phone ringing]
Bo: Hey, uh...call me. We're not finished.
Sami: I, uh-- I think it's a really, really good idea.
EJ: Thank you. I mean, I know you and your family probably want to go to Christmas Eve Mass. I thought maybe we could do it before that.
Sami: That sounds great.
EJ: I don't want to interfere with any plans you have.
Sami: No. We hadn't really talked about it. We just-- I'll do whatever it takes to get Sydney back, and I can't think of anything I would rather do this Christmas. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Anna: [Chuckles] Oh...you know what, Sydney, I think this is the best one. As a matter of fact, I think it's just perfect. [Chuckles]
[Cell phone rings]
Anna: Hello? Oh, my God...it's you.
Justin: Adrienne doesn't want me home for Christmas.
Nicole: You're holding something back. There's more, isn't there?
