Rafe: You sure about this? Oh. Hey, listen, I got to call you back.
Sami: The twins are asleep.
Rafe: Did you have any trouble getting them down?
Sami: No. Oh, I was just in there for a while, watching them sleep. They're so peaceful. I can't help thinking about Sydney. You know, kids that age, they need a routine, and... well, and she's not in her routine.
Rafe: Listen, I know that it has to be hard for you pretending everything's normal with the twins.
Sami: But they help me, you know? They give me something to focus on.
Rafe: Yeah. You got to be exhausted. You sure you want to go see Will?
Sami: Yeah. Yes, I-I want to go and be a mom to my son, all my kids, you know? I want that more than anything. You don't mind staying here, right? The twins are asleep. They shouldn't be a problem.
Rafe: No, no, no. Not at all.
Sami: You know that lead that you didn't want to tell me anything about?
Sami: There's no new news on that, right? You'd tell me if there was?
Rafe: No, there's nothing. I'll tell you. Promise.
Sami: I don't know what I'd do without you. See you later.
Rafe: Okay. Hey, okay, she's gone, so come as soon as you can.
EJ: Did he hurt you?
EJ: Was he thinking about it?
Arianna: Can you just let it go, please?
EJ: I recommend you get out of here as fast as you can.
Troy: I'm not scared of you.
EJ: Yeah? You should be. You all right?
Arianna: I'm mad, because that guy that you just... he's a friend of mine.
EJ: Didn't look very friendly. Didn't look very friendly the last time I saw him either. So why don't you tell me what's really going on?
Arianna: He's a supplier for the pub, okay? And sometimes he comes on a bit strong, that's all.
EJ: I get lied to a lot. I know when someone's not telling the truth.
Victor: You really expect me to stand around and watch my grandson, a recovering addict, screw up his life with a drug dealer?
Brady: You're a hypocrite.
Rafe: Evidently, Nicole thinks that the person who took Sydney was a woman.
Abe: I thought she didn't see who hit her.
Rafe: Didn't see her face. But she has a distinct memory of some very expensive designer boots. She described them to me in detail.
Abe: And you believe her, after all the lies?
Rafe: The woman is desperate to make sure that Sydney is safe. She wouldn't lie about this.
Abe: So what do I have to do with this? After all, I'm not exactly an expert on women's designer boots.
Rafe: Oh, I would hope not, actually, but you are an expert on Stefano DiMera, and that's where I need your help.
Woman: [Shivering] 78 degrees... nice and toasty for us, little one.
[Distant siren wailing]
Victor: I'm sorry, are you expecting a reaction from me? Surely by now, you should know how little your opinion means to me.
Brady: I have a pretty good idea.
Victor: Especially when I weigh it against your life.
Brady: [Scoffs] My life?
Victor: This is not hyperbole, Brady. Those drugs almost killed you. Now, you've been clean now, what--for a year? And you're shacking up with a drug dealer?
Brady: I love how much faith you have in me. Love it.
Victor: Faith? You follow Nicole around like a puppy. You're sleeping with a drug dealer. I'd be an idiot to have faith in you.
Brady: This is going even better than I thought.
Victor: And I am not a hypocrite. I don't pretend I'm not interfering with your life. I don't pretend that your opinion means a damn to me. But this woman, the world she lives in, the people that she deals with--they could kill you. And I'll be damned if I'll have it.
Brady: It's not your choice.
Victor: That is where you are very wrong.
Arianna: The thing is, Mr. DiMera...
EJ: You can call me EJ, if you'd like.
Arianna: I don't know why you care whether or not I'm lying to you. Now, maybe I'm just way off base here, but I think that you've got more important things to worry about than me and my relationship with one of Caroline Brady's suppliers.
EJ: I'm worried about you. And if you had half a head on your shoulders, you'd be worried about yourself. This is not the safest place, in case you hadn't quite figured that out. And this supplier, this friend of yours, seemed to be threatening you.
Arianna: Which is none of your business.
EJ: Well, you can call me old-fashioned, if you'd like, but I see a beautiful lady alone in a place like this, and, uh, I worry. There are a lot of unsavory types out here.
Arianna: Yes, I believe there are.
Abe: So you think this woman works for Stefano?
Rafe: Well, Stefano is still the chief suspect. And I still think it's too big of a coincidence that some nut job just happened upon Nicole and Sydney at the bus station.
Abe: Well, the majority of child abductors are someone connected to the child.
Rafe: And Stefano has no problem playing God.
Abe: If we end up proving that Stefano's behind this... I think EJ might actually kill him.
EJ: Yeah, if I don't kill him first.
[Distant siren wailing]
[Thud, glass breaking]
EJ: I rather think your brother has prejudiced you against me. Ironic, really, as I did save his life.
Arianna: [Scoffs] Oh... of course. I forgot to send you a thank-you note. Mm. See, no one tells me how I should feel about you. This is just how I feel. Now, I felt safe when my friend was here. I haven't felt safe since you came on to the scene, so...
EJ: Really? That's interesting. That makes about as much sense as you saying this guy is a supplier to Caroline Brady. What is it he supplies exactly?
Arianna: For her chowder.
EJ: Oh. Yeah, well, that's wonderful. Very good.
Arianna: Thank you. Just telling the truth, like always.
Brady: Think you know everything, don't you? You know how easy it is for an addict to fool somebody? Especially somebody who desperately wants to believe that they're clean?
Victor: What are you talking about?
Brady: Well, Arianna, you know, you're right, she wouldn't give me a thing, but she's not your only retailer, right? You have a great product. You must be making a pretty penny off it, because it's the highest quality I've ever seen.
Victor: Damn it, Brady, what have you done?
Brady: Do you really--do you really believe that just because you don't handle the stuff with your own hands that--that means you're not responsible for the hell the stuff creates? I mean, or is it okay to sell poison as long as it doesn't kill one of your own family members? Is--is that the law?
Victor: Tell me this is your self-righteous way of trying to hurt me. Tell me you're not using again. Tell me!
Brady: I'm not! No thanks to you.
Kinsey: So Greta said she always gives the same extra-credit question--name your favorite Emily Dickinson poem and explain why.
Tad: What happens if you can't stand Emily Dickinson, though? Like some broad who never left the bedroom's got all the answers, come on.
Mia: “After a great pain, a formal feeling comes.” She may have never left her bedroom, but she knew how people feel.
Mia: "Nerves sit ceremonious like tombs."
Kinsey: Hey, are there any more of those doughnuts left?
Kinsey: I'm sorry. Okay, I know I shouldn't be saying this, but I'm tired of all this doom and gloom. Like, Will--he doesn't even know where his little sister is, but he keeps trying to be optimistic and everything.
Mia: You're right.
Kinsey: And, you know, I really think we should try to cheer him up for the holidays. Maybe we could go caroling, if we did it ironically.
Mia: Do you actually think that a couple choruses of Jingle Bells is going to cheer him up?
Kinsey: [Sighs] That girl is on my last nerve. I wouldn't mind if I never even heard the word "baby" again.
Mia: It's my fault. It's all my fault.
Sami: Hey. Will, what are you doing out here?
Will: I was just thinking. I'm gonna call Mia and tell her I can't go to the dance.
Sami: Why? Did you two have a fight?
Will: No, no, no, it's not that. I can't go to some stupid dance when I don't even know where Sydney...
Sami: Don't worry about it. We are gonna find Sydney. And you are going to that dance with Mia.
Rafe: So what do you think? Would Stefano use a woman to do his dirty work?
Abe: He used a nurse to try to smother Philip Kiriakis.
Rafe: I see. It just feels more and more like we're on the right track. Only thing is, Stefano didn't plan on getting thrown in jail and not being able to get the baby. So whoever this woman is, she's probably getting desperate by now.
Abe: Well, you know, let's not get ahead of ourselves. First, we have to prove there really is a woman there.
Rafe: Right. And what her connection is to Stefano. I'm telling you, this feels right, though. I got the feeling we're gonna find Sydney and finally bring her back home.
Tad: Hey, we're studying Emily Dickinson. Were we expecting a load of laughs?
Kinsey: No, she wasn't upset about that. It was me. Look, I'm sorry if I brought stuff up you didn't want to talk about.
Mia: Forget about it.
Kinsey: I just thought things were looking up for you. I heard through the grapevine that you and will were back together.
Mia: Kind of. So, uh, I'm pretty sure there's gonna be something about either Whitman or Frost-- something on the test.
Kinsey: Kind of? Hmm. Doesn't sound too promising.
Tad: Sounds like she doesn't want to talk about it.
Kinsey: Okay, look, you know you are going to ace this test. So why aren't you out with Will? Yeah, you guys had a bad breakup, so maybe you need to let him know that you're serious about making it work this time.
Mia: Kinsey, I had a baby, and she died. Will's little sister is missing. You don't ever, ever have to talk to me about being serious, okay?
Will: Mom, look, I know you want me to go to the dance and pretend everything's fine, but... I can't. Okay? It just--it doesn't feel right.
Sami: I guess it would be hard for Mia too.
Will: I think it's hard for her having everyone know about Grace. And some people aren't very nice about it.
Sami: Wow. I wish you and she could just be kids, you know, and not have to worry about all this stuff. I hate that you had to grow up so quickly. That, like most things, is all my fault.
Will: No, Mom, it's not.
Sami: Well, I suppose we could blame your father too. You know, I really regret that you are stuck with two parents who are...pretty childish.
Will: You guys have grown up a lot lately. I'm thinking about extending your curfew till midnight, actually.
Sami: [Laughing] Well, I appreciate that. I want you to think about being happy. I want you to think about having some fun. It's gonna be okay. You're not betraying Sydney. And you know what else? I, um--I think Rafe is really on to something. I think he's gonna find her. I think he's gonna bring Sydney home.
Rafe: Hey, Gabi. What's going on?
Gabi: Are you busy? I'm sorry. I'll come back.
Rafe: No, I didn't say I was busy. Just surprised to see you here, that's all. Come on in.
Gabi: Is Sami here?
Rafe: Nah, she went to see Will. I'm babysitting.
Rafe: Yeah, alone. What, you think I can't handle it?
Gabi: I was just wondering. I thought maybe Arianna was here.
Rafe: No. Why, is there a problem? You two didn't have another fight, did you?
Gabi: No. Look, I don't know where she is, and she's not answering her phone calls. I'm just worried about her.
Arianna: So you know the old saying, "we have to stop meeting like this"? We have to stop meeting like this.
EJ: Couldn't agree more. I mean, I much prefer maybe a quiet restaurant, an art gallery or something. But you seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in dark and dangerous places, don't you?
Arianna: One thing about, um, being in places like this is you usually don't bump into jerks who want to analyze you.
EJ: I didn't track you down to analyze you.
Arianna: You tracked me down?
EJ: I did. Yes. I, um... I wanted to thank you for coming to Cleveland and helping me look for my daughter.
Victor: Damn it, Brady, that was uncalled for.
Brady: I'm just trying to get through to you, Grandfather. It's not easy to do.
Victor: Have you been paying any attention? I sold that business.
Brady: You're not even gonna deny it anymore, are you?
Victor: Did you hear what I just said? It's gone. I sold it.
Brady: Right, right, that's the operative word--sold. You--you didn't shut it down. You didn't close it down. You profited from it.
Victor: What do you expect me to do--throw away money?
Brady: Yes, Grandfather, I expect you to throw away money. Is it that stupid of me to believe that you would do the right thing because it's the right thing to do?
Victor: My God, you are sanctimonious.
Brady: Grandpa, you know, I'm gonna make you do the right thing. Either you tell me who you sold the business to, or I'm calling the damn police right now.
Maggie: Hi. I, uh--I saw "T" and Kinsey leaving, and, uh, "T" said you were upset.
Mia: I shouldn't have said I would do it. No one wants to be around me.
Maggie: Well, the holidays are a sad time. You know, it's very hard. People expect you to be happy. It just makes it worse.
Mia: You never do.
Maggie: Well, darling, I'm perfect. [Laughs] No, all I can say is just take it one day at a time. It gets better.
Mia: What if I don't want it to?
Chad: You know her?
Gabi: Yeah, I met her once, and I know her family. Do you know her?
Chad: Oh, uh, kind of the same thing. Hey, I'm--I'm Chad.
Gabi: Gabi. Nice to meet you.
Chad: I know. I-I've seen you around. You're new here, right?
Gabi: Just visiting my family. I kind of like it here.
Chad: Yeah, it's okay.
Gabi: Better than where I came from. I was actually thinking of transferring to school here.
Chad: That'd be awesome. I mean, you know, since... since your family's here and everything.
Gabi: If I did it, it wouldn't be to be with my family. It'd be to be on my own.
Abe: All right. Hey, guys. So how you doing?
Sami: We're good. We're doing well. So I will, uh--I'll see you later at home, okay?
Will: Right. Bye, your honor.
Abe: Stop calling me that.
Abe: How's he doing?
Sami: You know, as well as can be expected.
Abe: And you?
Sami: Running on empty.
Abe: Hey. I know. I know.
Sami: It's just... I can't believe that she's disappeared. I try to make myself not think about it.
Abe: Shh, shh. You know what? You know me. And I mean it when I say this-- it's going to be okay.
Sami: Thank you. I do believe it. You and Rafe--you both have been saying the same thing, and I know that you are realists, and you wouldn't say it if you didn't mean it. I think Rafe is on to something. I think we're really gonna get her back.
Arianna: You tracked me down to thank me?
[Cell phone rings]
EJ: Excuse me. DiMera. Yes, have you--have you found her? Uh, sure. Okay, yeah. Um, just, uh, do me a favor, would you? Would you just keep calling me, okay, even if you don't have anything? Thanks. [Clears throat]
Rafe: Sami, got a surprise for you.
Sami: You found Sydney?
Victor: There are serious repercussions in what you're about to do.
Brady: I'm about to get drugs out of this town.
Victor: Regardless of who it hurts?
Brady: I don't want to do this. I love you. I don't want to see you hurt, but that's how important this is to me, Granddad.
Victor: I'm not talking about me. I don't give a damn if you call the cops. It's a minor irritation-- a hiccup.
Brady: Okay, we'll see about that.
Victor: Have you thought about what would happen to your precious Arianna?
Brady: You don't scare me.
Victor: Then you're stupid. You don't know who I sold that business to. You don't know who she's dealing with now or how efficiently and permanently they'd cover their tracks. Go ahead, make your phone call. I'll give you ten-to-one Arianna doesn't make it to the weekend.
Arianna: Well, I'm ashamed of myself. I know exactly what you're going through, and here I am playing these really stupid games with you.
EJ: It's fine. You don't owe me an apology.
Arianna: You wanted to make sure that I wasn't into any trouble, and I was acting like you were the enemy.
EJ: [Chuckles] That's funny. All I ever get is sympathy from people. It was nice, actually, for once, to have somebody sparring with me.
Arianna: Well... I'm kind of known for that. My brother Rafe says that, um, I haven't met anyone that I couldn't fight with, so...
EJ: Yeah, well, that's probably because--oh, nope. You don't like to be analyzed, do you?
Arianna: No, go ahead. You know, I'm gonna give you a freebie.
EJ: Okay. Well, I think this--this tough exterior of yours is just 'cause you have a... you have a very nice warm interior that probably gets you into trouble.
Arianna: Well, that's easy. I-I was expecting a little more from you.
EJ: Look, um... in this rare moment of us getting along... can I ask you something? And I-I, uh--I don't really need any details. I know how close you are to your brother.
Arianna: What do you want?
EJ: Every single lead that I have...
EJ: For Sydney has just come up with nothing, and I'm hoping that your brother is following some leads of his own.
Arianna: Look, I, um...
EJ: I know this puts you in an awkward position. Please, I don't need any details. I just--please, I need to know. You heard me on the telephone back there. I'm terrified that I'm never gonna see my little girl again.
Maggie: I'm not sure I know what you mean by that.
Mia: I feel like... if I laugh or make a joke... I've forgotten my baby and what happened.
Maggie: Well, that's one of the tough ones. You feel like moving on is a betrayal. I felt like that when I lost my daughter.
Maggie: Yeah. It took time. [Breathes deeply] But then I finally decided that that--that wasn't fair to her. It's like everyone that knew Grace talked about her smile and her eyes lighting up.
Mia: They did.
Maggie: Yeah. She had this joyful spirit. Would a baby like that want you to live your life in sadness? I don't think so. See, I choose to think that she's up there watching and hoping for the day that something really tickles you and you throw your head back and let out a big laugh. She didn't give up her life. God took her home. I think she'd hate it for you to give up yours.
Rafe: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I should have thought that you would--
Sami: It's not your fault that you are dating this maniac, crazy woman who--who jumps to the wrong conclusions all the time. I, um... I just--you did this really nice thing for me, and I ruined it, and, um, I'm the one who should be sorry.
Rafe: Listen to me, okay? This is my fault. I shouldn't have given you false hope. I was just trying to do something nice.
Sami: No, no, stop it. You did. You did this really nice thing for me and for my kids. You put together that beautiful tree. And I know the twins are gonna-- are gonna love it. And I know will is gonna love it, and I love it, and... and when Sydney comes home, she's gonna love it too, and... and I know you did it for all of us, and I really appreciate that. Merry Christmas, Rafe.
Both: Merry Christmas.
Rafe: I love you. Okay.
Arianna: Look, I know Rafe. And if he knew anything, he would not keep it from you, okay? All he wants to do is bring Sydney home.
Brady: And if you want to know what's going on, EJ, maybe you should talk to Rafe or the cops, instead of playing on her sympathies to get information, hmm?
Arianna: Okay, Brady, you know what? Let's not do this, okay? Please don't.
EJ: I suggest you take her advice, Brady. She doesn't strike me as the type of woman who likes somebody speaking for her. Forgive me for intruding. Thank you for sparring with me. I quite enjoyed it.
Arianna: [Sighs] Please don't do that again.
Brady: Ah, you have no idea-- no idea what that guy is like.
Arianna: But you don't need to protect me, okay? Especially not from him.
Chad: So I'm thinking that it would be a good idea if you came to the dance. You know, it'd be awesome. It'd be a great way for you to meet people, and...
Gabi: Was it hard when you transferred schools?
Chad: Not really. I mean, I kind of already knew a lot of people, and-- uh, Mia, what are you--what are you doing here? Uh, Mia, this is--this is Gabi Hernandez, right?
Chad: And she's gonna be transferring here to Salem High.
Mia: Hi. Is your brother...?
Gabi: Rafe Hernandez? Yeah.
Mia: Will talked about you.
Gabi: Mia. You're his girlfriend, right?
Mia: His friend.
Gabi: I should probably get going. Nice to meet you, Chad. You too.
Chad: Is something wrong? I thought you were supposed to be studying tonight.
Mia: "T" and Kinsey left early. I get it. I was a complete drag, as always.
Chad: They think you should just get over it. I mean, they don't understand.
Mia: It's like no one does.
Chad: Well, I do.
Sami: You know, when I first met you, I never pegged you for a family guy. The next thing I know, you are making me tamales and--and, uh, risking life and limb for laughing penguins.
Rafe: Yeah. Well, this year hopefully I get to see you open your presents too. You especially.
Sami: You know what? I don't take enough time to appreciate all the awesome things I have in my life, like you.
Rafe: I love you.
Sami: You don't even have to say it... 'cause I know you do. I love you too... so much.
Will: So I was thinking of not going to the dance, but... my mom convinced me I should.
Maggie: Hmm, well, I'm glad, 'cause I was just telling Mia that I think she should start, um... trying to have some fun?
Will: Yeah, well, that's what my mom's kind of been saying. But you know what I've been thinking about a lot lately?
Will: With the exception of, well, just you... Mia's pretty much all alone.
Mia: So... she was saying Grace would want me to move on and have fun, but it still feels so weird.
Chad: Ah, well, I, uh--I get that.
Mia: I think you do.
Chad: You know what I do? I kind of make myself go through the motions, you know, do what I would have done if things hadn't changed.
Mia: And that works? I mean, you don't seem to fall apart every two seconds like I do.
Chad: Well, I mean, that's because I didn't know Grace like you did. I didn't go through being pregnant and everything all alone. I didn't lose my family over it. I think you have a lot more reason to be upset than I do.
Mia: Yeah, but, Chad, I'm tired of it. I'm so tired of feeling sorry for myself.
Chad: I-I don't think of it that way.
Mia: Well, that's what it feels like. I mean, maybe I'd like to try and move on, whatever you want to call it. Maybe I should start going through the motions.
Chad: Well... you used to really like to dance. What do you think about, uh, maybe going to the dance?
Mia: I don't know. It's scary, but I guess it could be fun.
Chad: Great. Then it's a date.
Brady: Don't you think you and I have enough on our plate without arguing about EJ DiMera?
Arianna: Yes. Did you talk to your grandfather?
Brady: [Sighs] Did I talk to him? No, I wouldn't use the word "talk."
Arianna: Did he say anything?
Brady: Yeah. He pretty much told me that he was a drug lord... just admitted it to me flat out.
Arianna: Oh, my God.
Brady: And, I swear to God, the man believes that because he sold his business, that it absolves him of all responsibility and blame whatsoever.
Arianna: Well, at least I don't have to turn your grandfather over to Roman. Did he say anything about who he sold it to?
Brady: No, he didn't. He just, uh...
Brady: I think you may be working for someone who's a lot more dangerous than victor.
Troy: So Arianna bought that you chased me off? She didn't catch on?
EJ: No. All went according to plan.
Troy: You found out what you needed to know?
EJ: I'm getting there. I'm getting there.
Rafe: I have something for you.
Sami: What? It's not Christmas yet.
Rafe: Well, yes, true. But I want you to have it.
Sami: It's beautiful.
Rafe: It's a mother's ring. So it has birthstones for all your kids--will, Johnny, Allie, Sydney... and Grace.
Sami: It's perfect. I love it. And... and I believe that we're all gonna be together on Christmas... all of us, including grace. She'll be with us in spirit, and we're gonna have Sydney home by then. I know we are... because of you. Thank you.
Brady: So before you could get anything out on troy, EJ showed up and chased him off, right?
Brady: Unbelievable. That guy, on top of everything, he has great timing.
Arianna: No, he was actually trying to help me.
Brady: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Boy Scout Elvis was just doing his good deed for the day.
Arianna: You know what? He's in a lot of pain right now. He was just walking the docks, instead of being at home in an empty house.
Brady: Listen, you're nuts for thinking that. Let me tell you why. Don't ever think you can trust EJ DiMera. Don't ever think that there's a human being in there somewhere. And most importantly, the most dangerous thing you can do is feel sorry for that guy.
EJ: A woman? Well, who the hell came up with that idea? Nicole? Nicole just about of the blue just suddenly gets a memory, does she? No, I don't want anybody talking to her. I will go and talk to her. Thank you.
Rafe: Roman. Hey, it's Rafe. I just, uh, got a message from my bureau contact in Cleveland. And, uh, well, forensics say that the boot prints from the bus station where we found Nicole are a match to the ones that Nicole described. So it turns out that Nicole's memory was for real, and there was a woman there. They're still gonna check the surveillance tapes, but, uh, well, I'm thinking if my plan works out, then we should have Sydney back in the morning.
Woman: Whew. [Shivers] Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Brady: It's time that EJ DiMera gets what's coming to him.
EJ: Nobody is gonna get him to talk.
Rafe: Actually, you and I-- we're gonna have a little chat.
