Rafe: Yeah, Nicole DiMera.

Gabi: All right, all right, all right. I made a mistake.

Arianna: A mistake. Honey, Nicole DiMera stole another woman's baby. You helped that lady take that baby and run.

Gabi: I didn't know, okay? She said her husband was beating her. She was worried about her baby.

Arianna: Okay, and you believed her. This woman that you meet on a pier. Okay, you don't listen to me. But a stranger?

Gabi: What?

Arianna: She was there, wasn't she? On the pier when I was asking you about that bracelet. She was there, she was hiding, wasn't she?

Gabi: She begged me not to tell anyone.

Rafe: Yeah, all right, great. All right, well, I just got off the phone with the-- where's Sami?

Sami: [Breathes deeply]

EJ: Did you find out something?

Sami: Not about Sydney, but, um, we did figure out how Nicole got away.

EJ: That's her bracelet.

Sami: Yeah. She sold it to this woman. She told her that her husband was abusing her and she sold it for 70 bucks.

EJ: When? When did she do this?

Sami: Last night.

EJ: Why are you doing this-- why are you giving this to me now, Samantha? Come on.

Sami: Well, I decided to tell the police first, EJ, you know, they're the ones out looking for them.

EJ: Right. Sorry.

Sami: Anyway, so we were talking to Gabi about it, and she didn't have any more information.

EJ: Gabi, who's Gabi?

Sami: Oh, Gabi's the young woman I bought the bracelet-- she's, as it turns out, Rafe's sister, but she didn't know, I mean, she really was just trying to help, and anyway, by the time we figured it all out, Nicole had at least an hour's head start.

EJ: She does that.

Sami: Get any sleep?

EJ: No.

Sami: Me neither.

EJ: Well, um... thank you.

Sami: Actually, EJ, there's something else I want to say. Look, we have to set aside our problems, okay? We have to work together if we're gonna find Sydney.

Brady: Look, they found the bracelet, they know the story you're using, Nicole, this is not gonna have a happy ending. And I'm sorry for the things that I said. Maybe if I wouldn't have said some of those things, you would've felt that you did have a friend in the world, well, I am a friend to you, and I want you to call me. Please. [Sighs] Help me get Sami her baby back, please.

Nicole: Just you and me, kid. Just you and me.

Fay: [Knocks]

Nicole: Who is it?

Fay: Nikki? Honey, it's me.

[Exhales] Hey.

Nicole: Mom, hey.

Fay: Oh. Oh, honey. I'm here. I'm here.

EJ: Okay. So how do we do this... as a team?

Sami: You can start by being honest with me. Is Stefano behind this?

Fay: Is that my granddaughter?

Nicole: This is Sydney.

Fay: Oh, hey, sweetie. I'm your grandma. Yes, I am. And you are the prettiest baby I've ever seen. Yes, you are. Except for your mama.

Nicole: I, um... it's okay, honey. It's okay. Thanks for coming.

Fay: Did you really think I wouldn't? She is so beautiful, Nikki.

Nicole: Yes, she is.

Fay: You're in big trouble, aren't you? Hair. Boy's clothes. Nikki, what happened? Did they turn on you? Are the DiMeras after you?

Nicole: Yes, they are. And I need you to do something for me.

Fay: I figured that. What do you need?

Nicole: I have to take Sydney and get out of the country. And you're the only one who can help me.

Philip: Well, this should cover all the information the board needs. Now we just need something to liven up the presentation.

Stephanie: Strippers?

Philip: I like the way you think.

Stephanie: [Laughs]

Philip: You know, there was a time I was wondering if you and I could work together without--

Stephanie: Driving each other crazy?

Philip: Something like that. I'm glad we've worked things out.

Stephanie: Me too.

Philip: I guess this means we've officially moved on.

Stephanie: Uh, I thought moving on implied with someone else. As in not single, which I most certainly am.

Philip: Not for long, Johnson. Not for long.

Melanie: You know, you'd think after working so late last night, I'd be super exhausted, but I'm not. I'm wired.

Nathan: [Laughs] You kidding? After a night like last night the adrenaline doesn't stop pumping just because you're off duty.

Melanie: Well, you were great calming that little girl down.

Nathan: Well, it was easy once you eased her hysterical mother out of the room.

Melanie: Aah, we make a good team.

Nathan: [Imitates explosion] Good team, uh, terrible dating stats.

Melanie: It's okay.

Nathan: I'm sorry. Hey, if, uh--if I haven't expressed it enough yet, thank you for helping out last night.

Melanie: Ah, well, I have a confession to make. I kind of had ulterior motives. Kind of just wanted to be around you. Besides, I don't think I would want to miss Miss Stephanie Johnson swooning into your arms like that.

Nathan: Oh, come on. That was completely, like--

Melanie: I'm just kidding. I'm just giving you a hard time. Although I have always wanted to be one of those elegant, dainty girls that just faints. But I don't think anybody would buy that here.

Nathan: Mm. I like you just the way you are.

Melanie: Well, you kind of have to say that.

Nathan: Yeah.

Melanie: But you must be feeling like Superman today. Super intern last night, Stephanie Johnson going gaga all over you.

Nathan: Oh, come on, she did not go gaga. All right, she fainted, and it just--

Melanie: I know. Doesn't change the fact that she's now super into you.

Nathan: Melanie.

Melanie: Yeah.

Nathan: You have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Melanie: Um, it's not really Stephanie I'm worried about.

Arianna: I don't--I don't know where Sami went.

Gabi: I didn't see her go.

Rafe: Ah, well, hey, you two have all this fighting to do, so who can expect you to keep an eye on a woman whose baby has been kidnapped?

Arianna: I'm sorry, Rafe.

Rafe: Yeah, well, really, I wonder why she felt the need, I mean, you two being such great company and all.

Arianna: Okay, Rafe, just--please.

Rafe: All right, look, I'm sorry, okay? I shouldn't have taken it out on you guys. It's just it's a tough time right now, okay?

Gabi: Everything I do is wrong.

Rafe: No, no, this is not your fault. I'm all stressed out right now. I shouldn't take it out on you guys, like I said.

Gabi: I was so stupid.

Arianna: Look, sis, you were dealing with a world-class liar. She fools everybody. Unless you know better.

Gabi: It's just that she really seemed, you know, like she was in trouble.

Rafe: Well, you were trying to help. That's a good thing. But maybe you can help me right now. Let's see if we can work on this timeline, okay?

Gabi: I wasn't wearing a watch.

Rafe: That's okay, we'll work our way backwards. Now, you guys, what time did you get back here?

Arianna: Um, it was just a little bit before midnight, right?

Rafe: Okay, so it was around midnight, and what, the pier's about five minutes from here, and Nicole couldn't leave there until after you guys left, right?

Arianna: Right.

Rafe: How long were you there?

Arianna: Like, 20 minutes.

Gabi: We were fighting.

Rafe: What a surprise. Okay.

Gabi: Rafe, I really am so sorry.

Rafe: No, no, no, actually this is good. This is totally helping. I think now I actually know where to start looking.

EJ: No. He didn't do this.

Sami: Oh, come on, EJ. Just yesterday you were so angry at him you were gonna move out, and now you're protecting him?

EJ: Hey, look, I don't think he did this, Samantha. I don't. Okay? I wish he had, then there'd be some kind of lead, there'd be a connection, there'd be some kind of hope. Okay. The point is my father didn't do this. He doesn't work like this. He plans things. He doesn't leave anything to chance. Now, he covered for her, yes, but he did not do this.

Sami: So you gonna stay here? Or are you moving out?

EJ: Just--just waiting here in case Nicole calls.

Sami: Right.

EJ: Actually, that's a lie. I'm staying here 'cause this is the last place I saw Sydney.

Fay: You want me to help you leave the country?

Nicole: Yes.

Fay: You're not coming back, are you? I'm never gonna see you and this little baby again.

Nicole: Oh, Mom, do you think that's what I want? It's how it has to be.

Fay: Oh, well, I wasn't good enough to come to your wedding or hold my grandchild, now I'm good enough to help you leave.

Nicole: You can see things clearly in hindsight. I didn't see it happening.

Fay: See what, Nikki?

Nicole: One of the women who helped me get away... she said one of the first signs of trouble is the man tries to isolate the woman and keep her from the people who love her and the people she loves.

Fay: Are you talking about your husband? That DiMera guy?

Nicole: I really need your help. Mom, it's a matter of life and death.

Rafe: You don't think it's too late to look for 'em in Salem?

Roman: Probably. But the volunteer angle keeps the media coverage going, which keeps up the pressure on Nicole.

Rafe: So what I'm thinking... she can blend in better in a big city. Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago.

Roman: Okay. We've got it narrowed down to only 3 1/2 million people. Piece of cake.

Rafe: You know, I don't think she planned this. I mean, really. She didn't know that Brady was gonna bail her out, or that Sydney was gonna be at the DiMeras'. Or that the baby was gonna be alone in the room, for that matter.

Roman: Yeah. Keep going.

Rafe: Really impulsive. And we know that Nicole can think quickly on her feet. The way I see it, she can con just about anyone out of anything.

Sami: I keep going over it and over it in my head. I mean, we're so busy arguing out there that I'm not even paying attention to my own daughter.

EJ: Samantha, stop it.

Sami: God, how am I supposed to explain that to Will? I keep talking about how I want to be a good mother. I'm such a screw-up.

EJ: Stop it.

Sami: Such a--

EJ: Please. I think we both know if anyone's to blame here, it's me.

Nicole: I thought that with the baby coming that-- that things would be different. That they would be better. But he just-- he just got more controlling, and I tried to call you, Mom, I did, but he heard me and I-- I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Fay: Nikki... Nikki, I'm so sorry. Did you call the police?

Nicole: The police, mom? To the DiMera house? Do you know what would've happened to me after they left? I had to think about Sydney. I had to think about my daughter.

Fay: Oh, my God. Oh.

Nicole: Come here, sweetie. For the longest time, Mom, I was so terrified and paralyzed. And the night before last, I had this dream that I was a little girl again. And I was with you, and then my father. And it was so awful because I wasn't that little girl anymore. It was Sydney, and I couldn't let her grow up like that. I had to get her out of that house. I-I-I couldn't ignore what was happening.

Fay: Like I did.

Nathan: Uh-oh, you-- you have this really weird look on your face.

Melanie: I think I'm gonna be honest with you.

Nathan: You say that like people say, "I think I'm gonna be sick."

Melanie: Um, it's the same difference, kind of. Um, we're in a good news, bad news situation. Which would you rather have first?

Nathan: [Clears throat] The bad news.

Melanie: How 'bout the good news? Um, the good news is remember how I told you about Philip and--and all those feelings and--and all that? I mean, the good news is that they're gone. They're completely gone. I am--I am over Philip, so that--that is--that is good. That is good news.

Nathan: Okay, so the bad news.

Melanie: I kissed him last night.

Stephanie: Look, Melanie and Nathan are happy together, and I respect that.

Philip: Oh, yeah? If they're so happy, then why--

Stephanie: What were you gonna say?

Philip: Nothing. Nothing. Let's be honest. Nathan doesn't appreciate Melanie for who she really is.

Stephanie: Like you do?

Philip: But you know who he does appreciate, and who appreciates him back?

Stephanie: Look, Philip, I-I really--

Philip: You.

Arianna: I know how upset you are.

Gabi: You're so perceptive.

Arianna: But I am asking you, please don't go. For Rafe's sake.

Gabi: For Rafe's sake. It has nothing to do with stopping me from telling Mom what you're really doing here?

Brady: Are you sure you know what that is?

Roman: Okay, I appreciate it. Thank you. All right. They've expanded the amber alert to Ohio and Illinois.

Rafe: Thanks.

Roman: No need to thank me. This is my granddaughter we're talking about. Did Sami go home? Get some rest?

Rafe: Uh, no, I don't think so. Think she went over to see EJ.

Roman: You are pretty calm about that.

Rafe: Well, it's their child who's missing, so I figure if they can help each other, then more power to 'em.

Will: Their child? Sydney's missing?

EJ: You really think she left town?

Sami: I really think she could con someone into giving her a ride, yeah.

EJ: I'm sorry for Sydney. She gets carsick.

Sami: So much I don't know about my own daughter.

EJ: How much cash you say that girl gave her for the bracelet?

Sami: 70 bucks.

EJ: She's not gonna get very far on that, is she?

Sami: No, she's gonna need some help.

EJ: Yeah. Well, she's resourceful.

Sami: No, you're right. She really is gonna need some help. We have to figure out who she's gonna go to.

Nicole: I didn't mean it to come out like that.

Fay: No. Nikki, you grew up in hell, and I didn't do anything, and we both know that's true.

Nicole: I just--

Fay: I'm so sorry you went through that, honey. Thank God you were strong enough to leave. Maybe... maybe this is my second chance.

Nicole: Then you'll help us?

Fay: You tell me what you want me to do. Tell me what you want me to do.

Nathan: You kissed Philip.

Melanie: Yeah. But see, the person I used to be would never have told you. I would've just two-timed you both. But I--I don't want to be that person anymore, so I just-- I had to be honest with you.

Nathan: Right.

Melanie: Okay, so now you be honest with me. Did I just ruin everything?

Stephanie: You know what I find interesting? While charitable contributions are down, volunteerism is up.

Philip: I think it's interesting how you pretend I didn't say what I just said. You and Nathan would make a terrific couple.

Stephanie: And that has nothing to do with your desire for Melanie?

Philip: Look, we are two people who work well together, who have mutual goals. I say we help each other. What do you say?

Gabi: Great. Someone I don't even know is here to tell me off.

Brady: Well, wait, hold on. I'm not telling you off, I'm just saying things aren't always what they seem. I have a little experience with that.

Gabi: Boyfriend, huh?

Arianna: Ex.

Gabi: Of course he's ex, because now you have something better to do with your time.

Arianna: No, please don't go.

Gabi: I'm just gonna go pass out flyers. Seeing as how this is all my fault.

Brady: Whoa.

Arianna: That's my sister.

Brady: You two seem very close.

Arianna: Well, you know how successful I am at my personal relationships. You didn't have to stick up for me.

Brady: I know. I wanted to.

Will: Well, is Mom okay?

Rafe: She's--she's handling it.

Will: Well, what's going on? What are you guys--

Roman: All right, Will. Will. Come here, son. Look, I know this may come as a big shock to you, but, uh, kids your age sometimes don't like talking to cops.

Will: No.

Roman: Especially a kid who may have been on the pier late last night or early this morning. You see, we're looking for somebody who may have given Nicole a ride. And a kid might not feel comfortable coming forward. Do you mind asking around?

Will: No, no, yeah, no problem.

Roman: Okay, good. Thanks.

Rafe: Anything anyone might have seen around midnight could help.

Will: I'll see what I can do.

Rafe: Okay.

Will: Mom just can't seem to catch a break right now.

Roman: [Sighs] He's right about that.

Rafe: All right, so next question is, does Nicole have any relatives in any of these three cities?

Roman: We're working on that. We're not sure where the mother or the sister ended up. She does have a brother. I talked to him, and, uh, he doesn't have a clue where she is.

Rafe: Hmm. You trust the guy?

Roman: Yeah, I do, actually. His name is Brandon, and, uh, you may not know this, but he was married to Sami a few years back. And I do trust him. He wouldn't help Nicole do this to Sami.

Rafe: So we find the mother and the sister.

EJ: Well, I gave your father her address book, but I told him she keeps everything on her cell phone.

Sami: I know Brandon wouldn't help her, but what about Fay? Taylor?

EJ: She never talked about them. Never. I mean, you really think she'd go to them?

Sami: I don't know. I don't know. I guess I'm just grasping at straws. Were you looking at this when I came in?

EJ: Yeah. See, that's the, uh... that's the day we brought her back from the hospital.

Sami: The day I gave birth to her.

EJ: Just looking at that earlier... I felt so stupid. I don't know how I couldn't have known. I mean, look at her. She's got a fiery temper and a killer smile. She's just like you.

Brady: So listen, I, uh... I'm really sorry for the things that I said to you the other night. I was mad at Nicole, I was mad at myself, more than anything, but I was not mad at you.

Arianna: Thanks. But that's, like, one of the least important things for us to worry about today, right?

Brady: Yeah, probably. What is the deal with you and your sister?

Arianna: Well, um, I was pretty careless. She found cocaine in my room, so she thinks that I'm dealing and using again.

Brady: And she cannot know that you're undercover, right?

Arianna: I can't put my fate in her hands.

Brady: Well, she gave you a hard time about it.

Arianna: The look in her eyes makes me think about what I put my family through.

Brady: Well, she'll know the truth soon enough.

Arianna: I hope so.

Rafe: Well, oh, well. Finally convinced my friend at the agency that this is not custodial interference. They've designated it a kidnapping, and they are on the case now.

Roman: All right. About time.

Rafe: Yeah.

Roman: What?

Rafe: Remember before how you said I was pretty calm about Sami spending time with DiMera? I think they've spent more than enough time together. I'll see you later. And, uh, just for the record, if he's yelling at her when I get there, I'm gonna knock him out.

Nicole: Hey, little one. I'm so sorry I had to lie to Grandma, but I had to make her help us. I had to.

Sydney: [Crying]

Nicole: I know.

Fay: [Knocks]

Nicole: Shh. Oh, hey, who's that? Who's that? Yeah. It's grandma. Hi.

Fay: Okay. I got everything on the list, including the disposable cell phone.

Nicole: Did you get the--

Fay: Yes, I got the money. I'm so sorry, Nikki. This is all I've got. It's just $1,200. But honey, listen, as soon as you get a place you send me your address, okay? I do pretty well with tips and everything, and I can wire you something every week.

Nicole: No, I can't risk it.

Fay: What, you don't trust me?

Nicole: Mom, the DiMeras are after me. If you know where I am, they won't be too nice about getting it out of you.

Fay: Okay. I understand. Well... listen, I'm gonna be late for my shift, Nikki. Okay, sweetie. I got to make this quick, sweetie. Grandma hates to cry.

Nicole: Wait. There's one more thing.

Sami: I can't believe I missed all of this. I mean...just like you missed out on grace. I tried to keep you from knowing your daughter. And because of that I lost out a year of my daughter's life. I would never trade the time that I had with grace.

EJ: It's okay.

Sami: It's not okay. I remember you telling me that you didn't even know what color grace's eyes were, and you couldn't remember her sweet, little face. EJ, what if we don't get Sydney back? What if we don't get her back?

EJ: Samantha, hey, listen to me. We're going to get her back. I swear to you. We will get her back, and we're going to do it together. Together. Okay?

Philip: All I'm saying is that Melanie and Nathan are at the very least wasting each other's time for a while. You and I in tandem could speed up the inevitable.

Stephanie: Okay, let me just remind you this is Stephanie, not Melanie.

Philip: Stephanie, trust me. I can keep you two straight.

Stephanie: Okay, you know what? Maybe Melanie would play those dirty tricks... you know what? I take that back. She's not like that anymore.

Philip: Yeah, right. Look, Melanie may want to believe that she's not like that anymore, and she may want to believe that Nathan's changed her, but he hasn't, and that's good. Because I like her just the way she is.

Nathan: I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with what you just told me.

Melanie: Well, I think maybe I just blurted it out. I should--I should give you, like, the details.

Nathan: There are details?

Melanie: Well, no, I mean, there aren't--there aren't detail--look, okay. Ugh! This guy Mark came from Europe saying that I owe him money.

Nathan: Okay, so you borrowed some money.

Melanie: Well--I mean, that's putting a light spin on it.

Nathan: Okay, Mel.

Melanie: Look, I told you I'm not proud of anything that's happened with my past, but Philip was there, and he--he got me out of the situation, I was so grateful that I--

Nathan: You kissed him?

Melanie: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. But he was really nice about it. He said he wouldn't tell you.

Nathan: So you did.

Melanie: Well, I--look-- I know that seems counterintuitive, but I-I... I really am trying to change, and the only way I can do that is if I tell you what I'm really like.

Nathan: Well, Melanie, I know what you're really like.

Melanie: You're really sweet, Nathan. I mean, you're really sweet, it's just... I don't know if Mark's gonna be the last piece of Euro trash to show up at my doorstep.

Nathan: I don't care, all I need to know is that this is gonna be the last time that you kiss Philip out of gratitude.

Melanie: I hope so. Look, all I know is that I told Philip to just leave me alone.

Nathan: Is that what you really want?

Melanie: Yeah. That's what I really want.

Nathan: I will make sure that he never touches you again.

Arianna: Sometimes I feel like I'm never gonna be able to outrun my mistakes.

Brady: Tell me about it. One day at a time, right?

Arianna: One day at a time.

Brady: For what it's worth, I think you're doing a hell of a job hanging in there.

Arianna: Sometimes I wonder. I'm gonna call Rafe. See how he's doing. Oh, damn.

Brady: What?

Arianna: My phone is dead.

Brady: Use mine.

Arianna: Thank you.

Brady: You're welcome.

Arianna: I just hit the wrong button.

Brady: You--

Arianna: Oh, my god.

Brady: What? What?

Arianna: There's, like, six calls to Nicole since last night. Are you really glad she's out of your life?

Fay: What?

Nicole: I just want you to know that, um... I'll never forget what you've done for us today. You're a good mother.

Fay: Oh, no. I don't know about that, sweetie, but I know you are. You are very lucky to have her. She is. I love you, Nikki.

Nicole: I love you too, Mom. I love you too.

Rafe: [Coughs]

Sami: Hey.

Rafe: Oh, sorry. Harold let me in.

Sami: Any news?

Rafe: Uh, no. No, nothing major to report. Your dad and I have some ideas. Nothing concrete yet. But it turns out my sister did talk to Nicole last night.

EJ: Yeah. Samantha told me.

Rafe: Obviously she's sorry. She had no idea that it was Nicole, she was tricking her, she was just trying to help.

EJ: It's fine. I suppose we can't really blame someone else for being conned by Nicole.

Rafe: Well, come on, you should get some rest.

EJ: Samantha, actually... sorry. Before you go. Would you like to have this?

Sami: No. No, you keep it. But thanks. Ready?

Rafe: Mm.

Will: Oh, hey, thanks. That--that's my little sister.

Gabi: Oh. You're Will.

Will: Um, do I know you?

Gabi: I'm Rafe's sister Gabi.

Will: Oh, God. You're the one who helped Nicole get away.

Brady: You're mad at me? For--for trying to call Nicole?

Arianna: I-I think it's just great, actually.

Brady: Ari, I was calling her hoping that she would come home. She's not answering my calls, though.

Arianna: Well, that's a good thing.

Brady: What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Arianna: She got you to post her bail, Brady. Who knows what she can get you to do next?

Brady: Well, thanks for the vote of confidence, there, Arianna.

Arianna: I'm sorry. I know I'm in no position to judge.

Brady: No, but you're damn good at it.

Arianna: [Sighs] I just feel like my life is so messed up, and you, you're just so hung up on Nicole. I don't think that we stand a chance.

Rafe: You get some rest, okay? I'll wake you up if anything happens.

Sami: What do you mean you'll wake me up? You got as little sleep as I did.

Rafe: I don't need sleep. Sleep's for girls.

Sami: [Laughs] Okay, Agent macho. [Sighs] You've been there for me to lean on since the day I met you.

Rafe: You're better about it now, though.

Sami: You have done so much for me.

Rafe: Not finished yet. I swear to you, I am gonna get Sydney back.

Sami: You believe that?

Rafe: Yeah. When Grace died, my faith, uh... anyway, it's back. And I'm gonna get Sydney back.

Sami: When you say it, I believe it.

Rafe: Good.

Sami: Rafe, this is such hell. I'm so glad I have you. Poor EJ. All by himself. All he has is a book of pictures.

[Phone rings]

EJ: Who's-- hello? Who is this?

Nicole: EJ?

EJ: Nicole. Where are you?

Hope: I have a hard time figuring out just what your intentions are.

Roman: You better get your marriage back on track fast.

Nicole: EJ, I am out of your life, and so is Sydney.
