EJ: Then you drag the judge out of his meeting.
Brady: Damn it.
Arianna: I come bearing gifts.
Brady: Thank you.
Arianna: It's a hint for "let's take a break."
Brady: Can't. I can't crack this code. I mean, finding out who's running drugs into Salem is a lot harder than I thought it was gonna be. Do you see this word here?
Arianna: How do you pronounce it?
Brady: Prudzo. It's Greek.
Arianna: As in Kiriakis Greek?
Brady: Yeah. It's a key word. It's been in a lot of the deleted files that my grandfather has used in the past, and it happens to be all over this file about shipments.
Arianna: So that means...
Brady: It means my grandfather is the one bringing drugs into Salem.
Nathan: Oh, hi, Stephanie. I didn't even know you were here.
Stephanie: Uh, yeah, Maggie and I are just planning the hospital's rooftop garden for next year. Wait, I thought you didn't live here anymore.
Maggie: Oh, no, no, he's-- Nathan's just coming here to pick up some of the things he forgot when he moved out.
Nathan: You know what would be great? Is if you put a play area right here next to the gardens. So that way all the long-term care kids can have somewhere to play on nice days.
Stephanie: Yeah. That sounds awesome. Well, how about you help us set it up next year?
Nathan: Sure, I'd be glad to. I got to actually get back to the hospital, all right? Love you. I'll see you later.
Maggie: Bye. See you.
Stephanie: Bye. [Sighs] Amazing.
Stephanie: Oh, just when I think Nathan's a really good guy, he does something else to make me admire him even more. I just hope he doesn't get hurt.
Maggie: And why would you say that?
Melanie: Philip, open the door!
Philip: Hold on, hold on, hold on.
Melanie: Philip, I don't know what you think you're doing, but it stops now. Do you understand me? It stops--it stops now.
Philip: I guess you got my messages, huh?
Officer: Mr. DiMera, I'm following orders.
EJ: No, what you're doing is letting Mr. Hernandez take my daughter away from me. Something that I will not allow.
Officer: My orders were to make sure that you stick around.
EJ: Good luck with that.
Roman: You are looking determined.
EJ: Yeah. I'm gonna see Samantha to get my daughter back.
Roman: No. No, you're not. You're not going anywhere.
Nicole: Mia, hi. I know--I know this must look like... you know, I'm not gonna be in here long. I'll explain later, but, um... have you talked to Sami? How 'bout EJ? Okay, well, Mia, I really need your help, okay? Otherwise, we could lose our little girl, and it could be forever.
Mia: She's already lost.
Nicole: No. No, no, we could get her back. Trust me. But you have to do exactly as I say, okay?
EJ: These strong-arm tactics aren't gonna work with me... Commander. I assure you, I'm getting my daughter back.
[Cell phone rings]
Roman: Yeah, what do you got? Really? Well, that's very interesting. Thank you.
EJ: [Sighs] What was that?
Roman: Well, it's kind of bad news for you, EJ. It seems the hit man who tried to kill Rafe Hernandez changed his story. He says Stefano didn't hire him. He says you did.
Nicole: Sami has your baby right now. Okay, but we could get her back. But we just have to work together, okay? But it has to be soon. Otherwise, you may never be allowed to see your sweet little girl again, and that's how mean and vindictive Sami and EJ can be, but I have a plan. And pretty soon, if you do what I say, you could hold your baby again, okay, Mia?
Mia: My baby... is dead. I will never, ever get to see her again because of you! [Weeps]
Melanie: Wipe that smile off your face. I'm not joking. No more messages. No more accidental run-intos. No more texting.
Philip: Then how am I supposed to tell you how much you mean to me?
Melanie: You're not. Keep your stupid, idiotic, conceited ideas to yourself. I mean it. And just stay out of my life. Are you--are you--are you listening to me even?
Philip: Yeah, but you could have said that on the phone. [Chuckles] And you didn't. Instead, you came over here for a little face-to-face. Why do you think you did that, Mel?
Victor: Should you be working?
Caroline: Well, if I don't wait on you, who will? [Laughter]
Victor: Well, it's not too busy now. Why don't you sit down and join me? I know you've been ill.
Caroline: Oh, that terrible flu. But that's no reason for sending flowers every day.
Victor: I think flowers are wonderful every day of the year. Besides, I was worried about you.
Caroline: Hmm. Well, I've been worried about you too.
Victor: Really? I'm in excellent health.
Caroline: Well, I was worried about Stefano marrying Kate.
Victor: Oh. That.
Victor: Trust me. Kate and I have not had a meaningful relationship in years. And I think you know, for a long time now, there's only been one woman in the world for me.
EJ: Oh, well, look who's here. Now things are making sense, aren't they? You have the press outside, do you, gentlemen? You alerted the media, I'm sure. What's going on here? You want all the publicity you can get, don't you? So that when your daughter goes to court to get custody of Sydney, she's got everything she needs. Right?
Mia: How long were you gonna try to hide it from me, Nicole? Forever? Like nothing would go wrong? You would never have to tell the truth?
Nicole: Sweetheart, if we just work together...
Mia: Shut up. Nobody cares about your stupid lies anymore. Sami knows Sydney is her baby.
Nicole: Oh, well, we could still get Sydney back.
Mia: Sydney belongs to Sami. She always has. Because my baby was Grace, and she's dead. She died because of you.
Nicole: No. Mia, you know that I didn't have anything to do with Grace getting sick.
Mia: Here's what I know. You helped me have my baby Grace and you took her. You promised me--you promised me that you would give her a wonderful life, and then you gave her away.
Nicole: No, I didn't.
Mia: Yes, you did. You traded her for Sami's baby. You never cared about Grace at all.
Nicole: That is not true. That is not true. I did care. I thought what I was doing was the right thing, Mia. Don't you see? I had to do this.
Mia: You had to? My God, you're disgusting.
Nicole: Mia, Mia, wait, listen to me, listen. Sami didn't even want EJ's baby. So you see, I didn't-- I didn't break a promise. I didn't. I gave Grace to Sami because I knew she could give her a wonderful life. How was I supposed to know that she would let Grace die?
Mia: What are you saying? Are you trying to blame Grace's death on Will's mom?
Brady: I don't believe this. I knew my grandfather was into some crooked stuff, but my god. Drugs. The man hates drugs.
Arianna: Wait a minute. Wait a minute, Brady. This file, it's old.
Brady: So what? So it's old?
Arianna: Yeah, well, actually, it says that this operation, whatever it is, drugs or whatever, we don't know for sure, it's been sold.
Brady: Where? I don't see--
Arianna: Right there. Final payment received. Cayman account closed.
Brady: Cayman account. He's got plenty of Cayman accounts.
Arianna: Okay, so this business has been sold. It wasn't a one-time transaction.
Brady: Yeah, it looks that way. I see that.
Arianna: So this means...
Brady: It means somebody knew he's dealing drugs into Salem.
Arianna: And your grandfather isn't my boss.
Caroline: Victor, I have to talk to you about something. You know that Shawn was the only man in my life.
Victor: Caroline, what you had with Shawn, I always respected that.
Caroline: Yes, you did.
Victor: Still, I did hope that one day...
Caroline: Victor. I care for you very deeply... but I can't overlook your line of work. My conscience always stops me... from accepting you with my whole heart. That's not good. It's not gonna change. It's true. So... I hope you can understand... and move on.
Stephanie: I just meant that Nathan--I don't want him to get hurt because he's such a nice guy. I mean, he's very trusting, you know?
Maggie: And he shouldn't trust Melanie.
Stephanie: I didn't say that. I mean, it's not that Melanie can't be... Melanie really likes Nathan. Everyone can see that.
Maggie: Mm-hmm. But she likes Philip more. Oh, it's not news to me. I've seen it too. She can't get her mind off of Philip.
Stephanie: You know what, I-I can't stick around here and talk. I got to get going.
Maggie: Oh, okay.
Stephanie: Oh, jeez. Ahh.
Maggie: Oh, honey. Are you okay?
Stephanie: Yeah, it's this stupid heel. I think it's loose. I practically twisted my ankle. I'm okay.
Maggie: Why don't you sit down for a minute?
Stephanie: I gotta go. I'm okay.
Maggie: You sure?
Stephanie: Yes, yes, thanks, Maggie.
Philip: Melanie. You want me in your life as much as I want you in mine. Come on.
Melanie: No. No, I don't. I don't. I don't want you in my life anymore. In fact--in fact, Philip, I want you out of my life 'cause I'm with Nathan now.
Philip: Sure you are.
Nicole: [Sighs] Mia, Mia, please don't--don't misunderstand. Sami didn't cause Grace's death. Not at all. And I shouldn't have said that she let her die. That is not what I meant at all. It was a virus. Totally random. I was just trying to get you to understand that I did everything I could for grace. And in the end, no one could have saved her, no matter what family she was a part of.
Mia: Are you even listening? I didn't know she was my baby. I held her and felt her breathing getting softer. I sang at her funeral. I cried and I cried, but I didn't know she was mine. You took that from me. How--how could you do that? What kind of monster are you?
Nathan: Hey, you. I didn't think I'd see you until later.
Melanie: Our date, that's right.
Nathan: Yeah. What's up? I just--I just wanted to see you.
Nathan: Yeah? Came all the way down here just to see me.
Melanie: And to be honest about something. Look, Philip's been leaving me messages. Like, really intense...
Nathan: Yeah, I know. I heard one of 'em. No, I didn't listen to your phone. I just, ironically, was walking by when he was leaving you one.
Melanie: Why didn't you say anything to me?
Nathan: [Clears throat] I figured if you wanted me to know, you'd tell me. Right? And if you didn't tell me... you do realize that it is up to you whether you want to be with me or with Philip, right?
Brady: There you are.
Victor: Something wrong? That's very dramatic. What are these?
Brady: These are notes that I made on the drug operation here in Salem. The one that you found out Arianna was working for, Grandfather.
Brady: And you're in it up to your neck.
Woods: Would you like your lawyer present during this questioning?
EJ: [Sighs] I am a layer, Mr. Woods. And I know a grandstanding district attorney when I see one. So when is your reelection campaign? The spring? Isn't it? Is that right? Nothing like being tough on crime, is there? Nothing like arresting a DiMera to show your bona fides with the press, eh?
Woods: If that's going to be your attitude, we can cuff you right now.
Abe: Uh, look, folks, why don't we just take a step back and remember why we're here? I think that will help.
EJ: Why have we invaded my home, Mr. Mayor?
Woods: The police need some answers. That's all.
EJ: Mmm. I gave the police answers already. It's not about answers. This is about the commander here building a nice little case so that his daughter can have the upper hand when we go to our custody trial, is it not?
Roman: You know what, EJ, I'd rather not do this, but if you really want me to arrest my grandkid's father, then please keep right on talking.
Mia: I babysat for Grace. I fed her. I played with her. I felt her fall asleep in my arms. I loved that little girl.
Nicole: I know you did.
Mia: I always felt so awful that Sydney really didn't mean that much to me. I never understood why. I thought I was just some... disgusting person. No, it was because of you. Because I believed your lies.
Nicole: No, Mia, I am so sorry you felt this way. For you to be involved in this...
Mia: Just last week, you had me lying to people. Telling them I was this total slut so that we could fool Chad. When he wasn't Sydney's father. Stefano didn't have to fix the DNA test. And you knew the whole time that the real father was EJ.
Nicole: Mia, please, you have to understand--
Mia: But the lies just kept coming, didn't they? To hell with what people thought about me. To hell with my life.
Nicole: I know you had to sacrifice a lot to make sure--
Mia: Sacrifice? I threw my life away forever because I thought it was the right thing for my baby. But she wasn't mine. I lost Will Horton because of you. I lost my self-respect. I lost everything. Because all you cared about was keeping up with your lies.
Nicole: Oh, no--
Mia: Giving you my little girl was the worst thing I have ever done, and I hate myself for that, and I hate you.
Brady: You're looking a little pale, Granddad.
Victor: Where are you getting these idiotic theories? What's on these papers?
Brady: I told you. They're notes that I made when I was checking out some files.
Victor: Well, these don't prove a damn thing.
Brady: Oh, you're clean now. Now that you've sold your territory off, didn't you?
Victor: Where are you getting all this nonsense?
Brady: I cracked some personal files of yours at Titan this afternoon.
Victor: You did what?
Brady: Who was the buyer?
Victor: How dare you?
Brady: Tell me who the buyer was.
Victor: Arianna's putting you up to all this, isn't it? She's the one behind this.
Brady: That was a smooth move, by the way. Trashing her as the dealer when you were her distributor.
Victor: Wake up. This woman is gonna ruin you.
Brady: You're doing that all yourself. And you're trying to ruin her life now.
Victor: I'm trying to help you. She is going to pull you down.
Brady: I don't believe that you're trying to protect me. I believe that you're out for yourself as usual, Grandfather. That's what I believe. And I think you need to be really careful because you're gonna wind up being alone, sitting here bitter with no one but your servants to look at.
Nicole: Mia, honey, I'm so--
Mia: Don't touch me. Don't you ever touch me.
Nicole: I was only trying--
Mia: You are nothing but a cold, heartless bitch, and I hope you are in this cell for the rest of your miserable life.
Nicole: Wow. Okay. You know what, Mia, maybe you will get your wish. But while you're off celebrating, why don't you do a little reality check? 'Cause, you know, when I met you, you had gotten yourself pregnant in the backseat of a car while your boyfriend walked away and left you to cope with all this by yourself.
Mia: Chad didn't know.
Nicole: No, you were desperate. You didn't have anyone. You didn't have any family. I was your family. And I supported you through all this--emotionally, physically, financially. I delivered your baby. You didn't even want to hold her. Do you remember that heart-rending moment? And then I gave you thousands upon thousands to go run off to Japan and start a whole new life. You abdicated all responsibility for that baby when you walked away. So if you don't like the way I did things, you have a problem with that, why don't you look in the mirror?
Melanie: Yeah, it's just I've been thinking about things a lot. Like--like, um, like a lot of us things, and I just--I care about you a lot, so I want to be honest with you.
Nathan: Honest. Okay.
Melanie: The thing is, I'm torn.
Nathan: You know what, I'm gonna look at the bright side of this and just think that it's great that you want to be honest. A good sign.
Melanie: It is.
Nathan: You know, in fact, I think that can actually tip the scales in my favor.
Melanie: You think?
Nathan: I know. Just so you know, I'll fight for you if I have to. Any day. Any night.
Melanie: [Quietly] You'll fight for me.
Melanie: You'll fight for me?
Maggie: Hi, have you seen Mia McCormick? She's one of the waitresses here.
Philip: No, I haven't seen her.
Maggie: Oh, okay, thanks.
Philip: Something I can help you with?
Maggie: Philip, I know you-- you care about Melanie. I care about her too. I mean, she's been living at my house for over a year now, and I have seen a tremendous change in her. I mean, she's developing into a very nice young woman.
Philip: I agree.
Maggie: The point I want to make, Philip... is that she's in a very good place right now with my grandson Nathan. And how do I put this? I would appreciate it if you'd butt out.
Philip: [Laughs] Well, Maggie...
[Cell phone rings]
Philip: If you're so concerned that someone might screw things up for your grandson and Melanie, then maybe she's not in a good place after all.
Maggie: Um, no, I think you are intentionally misunderstanding what I'm saying. See, right now, Melanie-- [Groans] Um, I'm sorry. My husband's in Chicago. Hi, Mickey. How is that trial going?
Abe: Gentlemen, please, we're just here to make inquiries.
Woods: Actually, I've heard enough. My office will get back to you as to whether or not we press charges, Mr. DiMera.
EJ: I'm sure you will. You give my best to Chad, now won't you?
Roman: All right. Well, if the D.A. is done, then I'm done. EJ, do me a favor, at least for the kids. Stay out of trouble.
EJ: [Clears throat] Oh, and, Roman, when you come back, make sure you get a warrant, will you?
Abe: Look, EJ... we're brothers-in-law, so I know this is awkward.
EJ: Awkward. Awkward. Abe, this is ridiculous. Okay? Why do you think I would take a hit out on Rafael Hernandez and then risk my life to save the man?
Abe: I don't know. All I know is there's something else going on here, and my guess is that it has something to do with your family situation.
[Cell phone ringing]
EJ: Sorry. It's urgent. Yes? Thank you! About time. Sorry. That was... Judge Rodriguez's office. There is a court order waiting for you at your police station allowing me to have a little chat with the hit man.
EJ: Well, I am my own attorney, and, therefore, I am entitled to speak to the man who is accusing me.
Abe: Well, then I have to accompany you there.
Abe: Are you planning to see Nicole while you're at the jail?
EJ: I certainly hope not.
Nicole: Mia... I loved Sydney. And I loved Grace. And switching them was something I did for Sydney's sake, not my own. I had nothing but the best intentions for both those babies.
Mia: But when Grace died...
Nicole: Yes, okay, yes. I let Sami think her baby died.
Mia: I'm the one who lost her daughter, and you never told me.
Nicole: Well, what would that accomplish Mia? It would have just made things worse for you. I was sparing you a terrible loss.
Mia: But I'm feeling it now, when it's too late. Don't you get it? Don't you have any idea what you did to me?
Nicole: Yes. Yes, Mia, I do.
EJ: Hello, Mateo. You're looking good. Good to know. Listen, I was hoping that you and I might be able to have a... bit of a chat. In confidence. What? Oh, come on, don't be afraid. We got the mayor standing behind me. Come here. Come here. Come here. Why'd you change your story? Hmm? I know you're lying. So do you. So don't insult my intelligence by pretending you're telling the truth. Why did you change your story? Commander Brady? He tell you to do it? Look at me, Mateo. District Attorney Woods? Mateo, you're going to tell me why you're lying.
Mateo: No, no, I don't answer to you.
EJ: You're going to tell me why you're lying while you still can. You understand me? You tell me who framed me.
Abe: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Now listen to me. What the hell is going on here? That man's a material witness, and you know it. My god, EJ. What's the matter with you?
EJ: You tell Roman Brady he's gonna be sorry. His daughter too.
Stephanie: Hello again.
Nathan: Hello again.
Stephanie: So. Can't wait for that spring rooftop garden thing that we're gonna be doing.
Nathan: Yeah, it'll happen.
Stephanie: Yeah, before you know it. I mean, the way time flies. I sound like an idiot. I'm just gonna go.
Stephanie: Jeez. [Laughter] Hi.
Arianna: Oh, from that look, I'd say things didn't go very well, huh?
Brady: He denied it completely. Gave me nothing.
Arianna: Sorry I'm causing problems between you and your grandfather.
Brady: It's not you. My grandfather's been causing me problems from day one. I'm just sorry you're mixed up in it. I don't want to lose you, you know?
Arianna: You're not gonna lose me.
Brady: Mm. I'm still on this, you know.
Arianna: I know.
Brady: I'm gonna work really hard. I'm gonna... put out some feelers, so to speak, and I'm gonna find out who's behind this cartel in town.
Arianna: Okay. I'm just gonna go downstairs and do some paperwork, and then I can bring us up some coffee later.
Brady: Sounds good.
Arianna: Okay. Thank you.
Brady: [Sighs] Phone's off, Brady. Turn it on.
Brady: "Nicole has been arrested."
Nicole: Mia, I loved Grace and Sydney so much. As though I had been the one to give them life. So I know how you feel.
Mia: You do? You know how wrong you were?
Nicole: I didn't do anything wrong. Mia, don't you see what I'm saying? I know what it's like to lose a baby. I lost EJ's baby, and now I'm losing Sydney. But I am Sydney's mother, no matter what anyone says. Oh, my god. My little girl. My little girl. I may never see her again. I may never see her again.
Mia: You are sick.
Mia: You don't feel guilty. You're not sorry. You never stop thinking it's all about you, but it's not. This is about Sydney. This is about her mother and Grace and what you did to them. I take back what I said. I don't care if you're in jail for the rest of your life. I just hope you burn in hell for what you did forever.
Nicole: No, Mia.
Nathan: Is that too tight?
Stephanie: It's perfect.
Nathan: Sorry that this had to happen to you.
Stephanie: No, it's fine. It's no big deal. It's just a dumb shoe.
Nathan: Yeah, well, if you weren't trying to get away from me so fast. Were you upset with me?
Stephanie: No. Why would I be? I think the world of you, Nathan. I always have. I think you're a really terrific guy.
Nathan: Oh. Um, I didn't know you felt that way about me. I mean, maybe, if I had...
Stephanie: Maybe if you had, what?
Nathan: Well, maybe things would be different.
Stephanie: Different how?
Nathan: Um, like this. You hear what I said?
Nathan: [Chuckles] I said, "Make sure you ice this when you get back to the office." Just at least 20 minutes, all right?
Stephanie: Right, ri--yeah, yeah, yeah.
Nathan: And make sure you keep it up when you're sitting down, keep it elevated.
Nathan: All right? All right?
Nathan: Well, we're good to go. How you feel? All right?
Nathan: All right.
Stephanie: Uh, no. Nathan, you're making a huge mistake.
[Knock at door]
Melanie: If that is Philip, so help me God, I'm gonna kill him.
[Knock at door]
Mark: Hello, Melanie. Cherie. What in the world are you doing in a place like this?
Mark: [Laughs] Picket fence, lace curtains, it is like out of an old American movie.
Melanie: I know. I haven't seen you in, like, a year or two.
Mark: You and me, there's something we must do, no?
Melanie: I have a new life now. I've changed. I can't--I can't do the things that I used to do.
Mark: I came 4,000 miles just to see you. Don't try to say no to me. Okay?
EJ: One more message one more time. Father, please. I mean, come on. You need to just call me back immediately, okay? Listen, I just got back from the police station, and Mateo has completely changed his story. He's now saying that I was the guy who ordered the hit. I was the guy who ordered the hit. Do you have any idea how he could possibly come up-- wait a second. You did that. Didn't you? You did that. To me. Damn you. Damn you!
Nicole: Oh, my God. I may never get out of here. And maybe that's what I deserve.
Brady: Nicole. I'm here to help you.
Nicole: [Exhales] Brady.
Nathan: Then you'll have more than enough time to tell me what's really on your mind.
Nicole: Why couldn't I have tried to build a life with you?
EJ: I think it's time you and I got to the truth, don't you?
