Rafe: So...good thing we made this flight. Next one's not till the morning.

Sami: Yeah. You never told me what you were doing in the Dominican Republic, anyway. What were you doing in Dr. Baker's room?

Rafe: Yeah, well, I'll ask you the same thing. What were you doing here?

Sami: I came because of you. And Nicole.

Nicole: Stefano, it's not like I had anything to say about it.

Stefano: This is impossible. Baker sent the letter to his lawyer?

Nicole: Yes. That's-- that's what he said. And I believe him.

Stefano: No.

Nicole: He said that the lawyer would bring it to the police if Baker told him to, or the second he found out Baker was dead. He said it spells out everything. My--my miscarriage, how I got the baby from Mia and then switched hers with Sami's. The whole cover-up. Everything.

Stefano: Why in God's name did you not tell me?

Victor: What's going on here?

Arianna: Oh--oh, God.

Lucas: So if you have any questions, I'll be in Chloe's room. My mom's in there now.

Melanie: Uh, no.

Lucas: What?

Melanie: I mean...

Nathan: Ooh, uh, will you excuse me for one second?

Lucas: What the hell's going on with him.

Melanie: Uh, nothing. Sorry.

Lucas: Then why'd you say no?

Melanie: I just forgot a book that I have to study during my break. I just can be such an airhead sometimes.

[Monitor beeping]

Daniel: That's all we can do for now 'cause I gotta go. I can't let them find me in here. I love you. Know that always. I can't... I can't leave you. I never want to leave you again.

Kate: Time for the last good-bye, Chloe.

Rafe: But...I don't get it. How did you know that Baker was gonna be here?

Sami: I told you, he called me.

Rafe: Yeah, you said he said something about letting his patients know that he was moving or something?

Sami: Right. It was ridiculous. Totally lame. But before he came up with that stupid excuse, he told me that he had something really important he wanted to say to me.

Rafe: About what?

Sami: About Grace.

Rafe: Oh. That's interesting.

Sami: I thought he was offering his condolences. But he didn't even know that-- that she was gone. So when I told him, that's when he started acting all crazy. And he started making excuses, and then he just hung up the phone.

Rafe: Just like that?

Sami: But it doesn't make any sense. Why would he want to tell me that he'd moved? What do I care?

Rafe: wouldn't?

Sami: Exactly. So that's when I started thinking maybe he was calling to apologize. Maybe--maybe he was gonna explain something to me.

Rafe: About what?

Sami: About Grace? I mean, I know it was a virus, but-- but maybe something happened in the clinic that made her more susceptible, you know?

Rafe: Yeah, it could be.

Sami: I told Nicole, asked her what she thought about him calling me.

Rafe: What'd she say?

Sami: She told me that she thinks he's troubled, and that I should stay away from him.

Rafe: But you didn't, did you?

Sami: Not at first. I thought she was right. But then-- but then I realized I couldn't. I had to talk to him.

Rafe: Did you talk to him?

Sami: No. I called him and I left a message. He didn't answer, so I told him to call me back. And that's when I was at the Brady pub. I talked to Pete, and I found out you were coming to the Dominican Republic, and... and that clinched it for me. I--I realized you must be suspicious. And I thought maybe you had... real evidence. So do you? Do you have evidence against Dr. Baker about--about Grace?

Nicole: Stefano, I didn't tell you about the letter because I thought Baker was out of my life.

Stefano: He was calling you? Hmm? He was threatening you? You came to me for blackmail money, and you thought he was out of your life?

Nicole: Yes, but I had no--

Stefano: What the hell did you think I was going to do, huh? Let him destroy my family? La mia famiglia?

Nicole: Stefano, shh.

Stefano: That I was just gonna stand by, of course, and then see him destroy my son's happiness, right? Just blow it to dust-- is that what you think? Why don't you use your head once in a while?

Nicole: I know, I should have told you.

Stefano: You should have told-- look, you should have, you should have. A lot of "should haves," you. Forget about it. All your lies, everything that you have done is now going to become public knowledge.

Nicole: Oh, my God.

Stefano: I'm sure that that letter is on its way to the authorities as we speak.

Nicole: Well, isn't there a way we could stop it?

Lucas: Awfully nervous, Melanie.

Melanie: [Voice cracks] No. [Clears throat] No, no. I just gotta-- I gotta get going, so...

Lucas: Oh, really, why is that? Wait a minute. Nathan just rushed out. Now you gotta rush out too? Why?

Melanie: Uh, we're busy. We have work to do. He's got a patient, and I have a class to go to right now.

Lucas: It's a little late for that, isn't it?

Melanie: It's a makeup class. They run later.

Lucas: Fine, fine. Whatever.

Melanie: Okay, later. Uh, uh, really fast... I, um-- what you were talking about earlier-- giving the hospital orders for your wife's life support... what did you decide?

Daniel: I know we're gonna be together. I know it. Somehow...soon. 'Cause you're making me a little crazy. Just remember, you're not alone. I'll always be here.

Nathan: Excuse me.

Kate: Yes?

Nathan: Uh, you can't go in there right now.

Kate: Yes, I can. And I'm going to.

Victor: I came out here to relax and have an evening cocktail, not watch a porn show.

Brady: Granddad, come on.

Victor: You have a room, Brady. Try using it.

Brady: Uh...yeah.

Arianna: Okay.

Rafe: Actually, coming down to the Dominican Republic was... it was weird. I got a call from Baker myself.

Sami: What, really?

Rafe: Yeah. I don't know, I didn't expect it either. Especially because I was the one that ran him out of town.

Sami: So you were gonna find him and--and make him talk?

Rafe: Yeah, ask him some questions, get some answers. I certainly didn't expect to see him dead.

Sami: So who do you think killed him?

Stefano: Yes, well, things are not always what we expect them to be.

Nicole: What was that about?

Stefano: Our good friend Hernandez went to the Dominican Republic to confront Baker.

Nicole: What? Did he say anything? Does he know you sent people down there?

Stefano: Let me finish! I knew that Hernandez was on his way there, so I had set up a thing that there would be an accident while he was in Baker's room.

Nicole: Rafe's dead too?

Stefano: Oh, damn it, woman!

Nicole: Okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm just upset. I mean, everything's falling apart around me.

Stefano: All right, just keep quiet. Listen and learn, all right? I planted some evidence that would implicate Hernandez in Baker's death.

Nicole: Oh. Clever.

Stefano: Yes, but the only problem is he left the country before he could be captured. Ah, so... [Chuckles] Who knows now what evidence he found on Baker?

Nicole: Evidence of what?

Stefano: Evidence that leads to you, that's what!

Nicole: Oh, my God. You know, I-- I've had horrible nightmares... about this day, but I was always so glad when I woke up.

Stefano: Yes, of course. Huh? All about Nicole, right? Nicole this, Nicole that, huh? What about me? You ever think about that? What is going to happen when Elvis finds out that I've been helping you? Huh? That I have lied to him. I'll tell you what is going to happen. My only son is going to despise me.

Nicole: I'm supposed to feel sorry for you because your son won't worship you anymore? I'm about to lose my entire family!

Stefano: You know something, you can take your little pity and shove it! You understand? You've got to think. We have got to stop that letter before it even gets mailed. [Sighs] Give me the lawyer's name.

Nicole: I don't--I don't know who he is. I don't know anything about him.

Stefano: [Sighs]

Lucas: You know, for a student nurse, you sure ask a lot of questions that are none of your business.

Melanie: Oh, I'm just curious. You know, as a nursing student, we're actually-- we are taking a class called "issues in...trends," and we're studying patients and families in situations like yours, and how they make their decision-- come to terms with-- with everything. I just, uh-- I know it's really hard... for you.

Lucas: Oh, really, is that a fact?

Melanie: Yeah. Hey, if you don't want to talk about it, it's-- it's whatever.

Lucas: No, I just said it was none of your business.

Melanie: Yeah, no, that's-- that's completely fine. I respect that. And I'll probably find out what your decision is in a little while anyways.

Lucas: You're ridiculous. You don't know when to quit, do you?

Daniel: There's going to be a change. It should be soon. Can you feel that, Chloe? Now, squeeze my hand. Come on, squeeze back.

Nathan: You, uh, uh-- I'm sorry, Miss Roberts. Sometimes I'm not clear about what I mean. Of course you can go in. Just not right now. See, uh, I have to examine Chloe and take a few notes, and then you can come right in.

Lucas: Okay.

Kate: Okay, well, do what you need to do. We need to give Dr. Horton a few minutes before we say our final good-byes.

Lucas: All right.

Brady: I honestly didn't think there was anyone home.

Arianna: Hey, don't worry about it, okay? It wasn't embarrassing in the least.

Brady: No, I'm sorry. Really, I'm sorry.

Arianna: Hey, no, it's fine. Don't worry, okay? Hey, we're presentable now, right?

Brady: Yeah. Not for long, though.

Arianna: Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Nope.

Brady: What, what, what?

Arianna: I gotta go. I should get going, yep.

Brady: No, you should stay.

Arianna: I'm going. What if your grandfather comes back?

Brady: It won't matter because we're gonna be in my room.

Rafe: Well, it's not hard to guess who killed Baker. The man ran up huge gambling debts. Bookies, loan sharks... they're not nice people.

Sami: I didn't think they really killed people, though, right? I mean, they can't collect your money if they're dead.

Rafe: Well, it's a rough world out there. Sometimes the threatening thing gets a little out of hand, you know?

Sami: So you think they killed him by accident?

Rafe: Maybe. Maybe not. The point is he was dead, so they needed a fall guy. I show up, and they try and make it look like I did it.

Sami: I guess that seems logical.

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: Is that-- is that what you really think happened?

Rafe: What do you mean?

Sami: I don't know. I guess I just keep feeling like you're...not telling me something. Is there someone else involved with this?

Stefano: Hello, darling. I, uh--I need help, quickly. Yes, um, a Dr. Richard Baker was a patient in the hospital in...

Nicole: May.

Stefano: In May, yes. And he had a visitor, a lawyer. I need that man's name. Yes, yes, I'll wait. He fell here in the mansion, and they kept him overnight for observation.

Stefano: Oh, yes. Uh-huh. Thank you, my love. Yes. Believe me, a lovely gift is already on its way.

Nicole: So you got his name?

Stefano: I have a job for you. Use as many men as you need because this is urgent. I want you to find a William Hynes...H-Y-N-E-S. All right, he is a lawyer here in Salem. Find him. Bring him to me immediately. Yes. [Sighs] Now, we sit...and hope.

Nicole: Hope?

Stefano: Hope that Mr. Hynes has not heard about Baker's death... and already that letter has not been sent.

Nathan: Uh, I just, uh, got the wrong chart. Sorry. Uh, excuse me. I'll just be a minute.

Lucas: Yeah.

[Monitor beeping]

Melanie: Go ahead.

Daniel: Thank you.

Melanie: All right, okay. Good thing I move fast and that room has two doors, right?

Daniel: Yeah, yeah. I'll tell you, I appreciate the heads up.

Melanie: Absolutely. Don't let anybody see you. Use the back stairs. I'll meet you in the park.

Daniel: Back--okay. All right. Thank you.

Melanie: You bet.

Melanie: What am I doing?

Arianna: What?

Brady: You're beautiful. And don't you tell me that no one's ever told you that before.

Arianna: It's been a long time.

Rafe: The truth is I don't know what Baker did or didn't do, or who he was hanging out with. The dude was always up to something, right?

Sami: So you think that trying to frame it on you was a spur of the moment thing?

Rafe: I guess. What, do you got a better explanation?

Sami: No.

Rafe: Well, if you think of one, let me know.

Sami: Okay.

Rafe: Okay. I'm sorry.

Sami: For what?

Rafe: I guess I still want to be a--a hero... who says the right things, shows up in the nick of time. I wanted to get some answers out of Baker. Hell, I don't even know who killed him.

Sami: You were trying to help me.

Rafe: Yeah. Now if it turns out that something did happen to Grace at that clinic, we'll never know.

Sami: What about-- what about that guy?

Rafe: Who?

Sami: This lawyer...William Hynes. Dr. Baker had his card in his wallet, and I don't know. Maybe he knows what happened.

Stefano: Mr. Hynes, how good of you to come. I am Stefano DiMera. This is my daughter-in-law Nicole.

Nicole: Hi.

Stefano: Unfortunately, my son is stuck in a business meeting, so he will not be with us.

Hynes: Look, sir, when I was brought here, I was searched. And I mean completely. And then they took my cell phone.

Stefano: Don't be alarmed. You will get it all back.

Hynes: That's not the point. The point is that I have the right--

Stefano: The point is... that I had to make sure that you had no listening devices on you.

Hynes: Well, why would you even think that?

Stefano: Call it...second nature. Now, your client... Dr. Richard Baker. He gave you a letter that was to be opened upon his death, yes?

Hynes: No, sir, not to be opened. To be given to the police.

Stefano: Ah, that's very good. You are very precise with your choice of words. So tell me, precisely... where is the letter now?

Nicole: Have you sent it? We have to know if you sent it.

Melanie: Hey.

Daniel: Hey, hey, what's the word? Anything?

Melanie: Uh, Nathan said there's no change in Chloe's condition.

Daniel: No, no, no, it's gonna change. The drug just has to kick in. She'll start to recover. She will. She will come back to me.

Melanie: I hope so.

Daniel: You know what I should do, I should probably just call Nathan.

Melanie: Uh, actually, you know what, I'm gonna text him and have him call the second her condition changes. Just remember, I don't want them to be able to connect your phone with his.

Daniel: All right, all right, all right, you know, in case it doesn't work out.

Melanie: No, no. In case he gets caught and he has to lie his way out of it. Because if they find out you were in contact, he could lose his internship.

Nathan: You sure about this? Any second thoughts?

Lucas: Of course I'm having second thoughts, man. Who wouldn't? Come on.

[Cell phone ringing]

Nathan: I'm just saying, once you make the decision to discontinue the support... if you later decide to put her back on...

Lucas: Then it'll be too late. I know. Lexie explained the whole thing to me already.

Nathan: Then why don't we wait a couple days, Lucas?

Lucas: I have made my decision. We are doing this. We're doing it now.

Nathan: All right. Let's go see her.

[Monitor beeping]

Kate: Well, it's gonna be all over soon. And Daniel's not gonna be here to save you. Actually, no one will. It's time to say good-bye, Chloe.

[Monitor beeping faster]

Lucas: What is it? What's going on?

[Monitor beeping faster]

Brady: What?

Arianna: Can I tell you a secret?

Brady: Yeah, yeah. I love secrets.

Arianna: Mmm, okay. You ready? I had this fantasy once. And it was like everything that's really happening right now.

Brady: Really? When did you have this little fantasy of yours?

Arianna: Um, that would be the first time we met.

Brady: No way. No way.

Arianna: Yeah.

Brady: Because I yelled at you that night.

Arianna: Oh, yeah: "What are you doing? Why are you listening in on my phone call?"

Brady: I know, I wasn't the most charming guy that night. So I just assumed that you hated my guts or something.

Arianna: Well, yeah, but God-- God, you're so cute. Well, I would just kick myself for, like, a decade if I let you walk away. You know, that's why I was, like, arguing with you. I was trying to get you to pay attention to me.

Brady: Oh, I see. This whole time I just thought you were this nosy woman that just wanted to listen in on my phone call.

Arianna: No, you didn't.

Brady: I did.

Arianna: No, you were playing the game.

Brady: I don't play. I'm not a player.

Arianna: You were playing. I was feeling it. You were playing.

Brady: I don'

Rafe: Okay, so again, my name is Rafe Hernandez. You were recommended to me, and I need a good lawyer. So if you'd give me a call ASAP, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Hynes: Mr. DiMera, I'm afraid any information that I have about something I may or may not do for a client is strictly confidential.

Nicole: How much will it take to make you give up that confidentiality? Name your price.

Stefano: Nicole, please. Mr. Hynes is not interested in money.

Hynes: I most certainly am not.

Stefano: Well, then, wise up. Do you know who you're dealing with?

Hynes: Well, of course, one hears rumors about the DiMera family.

Stefano: Well, trust me, Mr. Hynes. They are not rumors. My family has a reputation that is deserved. And we do not take no for an answer. So tell me, now... what have you done with the letter that Dr. Baker gave you?

Nathan: Her pupils aren't responding, but her BP is up, and her pulse is steady now. So... this is a definite improvement.

Kate: I don't understand. How is this even possible?

Nathan: Uh, well, I've got a call in to Dr. Carver, and she'll be here soon. All I can say is miracles happen.

[Monitor beeping steadily]

Arianna: Um, I just got your text message. What's going on?

Troy: Well, you said you wanted to meet the guys behind the scenes.

Arianna: Uh, yeah.

Troy: Well, you better get a move on. Pier six.

Arianna: Um, okay. Can you give me, like, an hour?

Troy: No, how 'bout ten minutes? They just pulled in as we speak. We're talking about the big man himself. It's now or never, babe.

Rafe: Hey, Ari, it's me, Rafe. You're not gonna believe this, but Sami showed up down here looking for Baker too. Now, listen, I don't want her to know that Nicole's in this up to her eyeballs. So if you see her, don't say anything, okay? Now, listen, I gotta go. I'll talk to you later.

Sami: Was that your sister?

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: Do you think we should call the lawyer?

Rafe: Hynes? He's probably a nobody. Divorce lawyer, malpractice lawyer. Who knows?

Sami: Yeah. Yeah, he probably doesn't know anything anyway.

Rafe: Yeah.

Hynes: Actually, I decided that since this seemed to be so serious, that maybe I should deliver this to Commander Brady in person rather than trust it to the mail.

Nicole: Oh, yeah, this is it.

Stefano: Excellent.

[Telephone rings]

Stefano: Yes? Very interesting. Thank you. Mr. Hynes, you have been very helpful, and I want to thank you for that.

Hynes: Oh, anytime. I--

Stefano: But there is one more little matter that you and I should deal with.

Melanie: Okay, I know this is gonna sound really weird, but Chloe's really lucky. I mean, I hope someday somebody loves me as much as you love her. [Chuckles, cell phone rings] Oh. Oh, it's Nathan! It's Nathan.

Daniel: Nathan, all right, where are we at?

Nathan: All of her vital signs are showing improvement.

Daniel: Oh, my God.

Nathan: Yeah, uh, it's not enough to call it a victory. She's stronger, definitely, but she's still technically in a coma.

Daniel: But at least there's hope. There's hope.

[Monitor beeping]

Lucas: Hey, did you reach Lexie?

Nathan: Yes. Dr. Carver will be in to check on Chloe very soon.

Lucas: So that means she's gonna recover.

Nathan: She's in the process of doing that right now. I mean, the hope is, of course, that she continues to improve.

Kate: So if she does recover, do you think she's going to remember what happened? I mean, will she be remembering the people who visited her, what they had to say?

Lucas: What about the paperwork I signed? You know, to take her off life-support.

Nathan: Oh, that will be put on hold for now. There's no basis for that now that she's improving.

Lucas: Right. Right.

Brady: Hydration is good for the body and soul.

Arianna: Thank you.

Brady: Well, you're dressed. What are you doing?

Arianna: I am. I--I gotta go. I'm sorry.

Brady: No, no, no, you're not going. I'm looking forward to round two here, honey.

Arianna: Oh, I'd like that. You know, actually, really, it would be round three, you know. And it would be great because it was great. Actually, it was more like fantastic. It was fantastic.

Brady: Thanks, but you still have to go?

Arianna: I do. I'm sorry.

Stefano: The man who is watching over your belongings got a call a few moments ago on your cell phone from a Rafael Hernandez. He wants to meet with you.

Nicole: Oh, God.

Hynes: I--I don't know anyone named Rafael or Hernandez.

Stefano: Then keep it that way. And you will not call him back. Understood?

Hynes: Yes.

Stefano: Now, what is it that you are not going to do?

Hynes: I--I won't call him back.

Stefano: Very good. You know, I hope you don't mind my saying this. Really, I don't want to get too personal, but you-- you don't look very happy. You know what you need?

Hynes: No, sir.

Stefano: A vacation. A permanent vacation.

Hynes: I don't understand.

Stefano: Oh, see, pick a state... far away...and go there. I'll have one of my associates write up a check, and I'll get it to you in and hour, an hour and a half. All right? And the check will be very generous. And I will never see you again. And I will never hear from you. Agreed?

Hynes: Uh, yes, sir.

Stefano: Fine. Very good. You know, it's been an absolute pleasure dealing with you, Mr. Hynes. I have a very important call to make to Japan, so my lovely daughter-in-law will see you out. Thank you.

Nicole: Uh, this way. Something wrong?

Hynes: Uh, there's a small matter that I didn't explain to Mr. DiMera.

Sami: Hey, you didn't have to walk me all the way to my door.

Rafe: It's getting late.

Sami: Yeah. Yeah, I guess.

Rafe: Plus, I know you're upset.

Sami: Well, it wasn't exactly an uplifting experience.

Rafe: [Scoffs] Thank God you showed up when you did. Otherwise I'd be in a jail in Santo Domingo.

Sami: [Chuckles] Guess it was my turn to rescue you, huh?

Rafe: Yeah.

Daniel: Nathan, did you get Lucas to back off?

Nathan: Yeah. I mean, legally he cannot order life-support withdrawn if his wife is still showing improvement.

Daniel: Okay. All right, well, now we just have to hope that single dose did the trick. And listen, you keep Kate away from her, will you? With Chloe improving, she's liable to do anything.

Nathan: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hear you. Yeah, I'll keep you posted on any changes.

Daniel: Thanks, man. Here's Melanie. Thank you.

Melanie: Yeah. Hey, you. How are you holding up?

Nathan: Uh, good. Yeah, listen, thank you so much for all your help in this.

Melanie: Yeah, we, uh-- we make a pretty good team, don't we?

Nathan: It's starting to seem that way, yeah.

Daniel: You can do this, Chloe. You come back. You come back to me. I am with you. I won't--I won't let you go. Ever. I love you, Chloe.

Chloe: Daniel.

Arianna: I really did have a great time.

Brady: Yeah?

Arianna: I did.

Brady: I, uh--I did too.

[Cell phone rings]

Brady: Oh, no. Excuse me for a minute. Oh, yeah, yeah. The Chinese market's already open. I gotta take this, okay?

Arianna: Oh, yeah, please do. I know my way out, okay?

Brady: Okay. All right. Mr. Po, good morning.

Troy: Okay, she's on her way.

Man: We're meeting her why, exactly?

Troy: She's been asking to meet the higher-ups for months.

Man: So what? She's just a dealer.

Troy: No, sir, I'm telling you, she moves more product than anyone. Almost as fast as I can get it to her. I just thought she deserved to meet. I hope it's okay.

Man: I don't know. What do you think?

Victor: Interesting.

[Cell phone rings]

Sami: Oh, God. Sorry. Oh.

Rafe: Something wrong?

Sami: No, no. It's just from Doug and Julie. They wanted to set a time for me to be able to call the twins tomorrow. They're six hours ahead, so we have to schedule things.

Rafe: All right. Well, time to say good night.

Sami: Yeah. Thanks again for everything.

Rafe: Thank you.

Sami: Will you, uh-- will you do one thing for me?

Rafe: Sure.

Sami: Stay safe, okay?

Rafe: I'll try. Good night.

Sami: Good night.

Nicole: Well? Are you just gonna stand there? What didn't you tell Mr. DiMera?

Hynes: Well, it's not that I lied, you understand. I would never do that to Mr. DiMera.

Nicole: Yeah, whatever. Just tell me.

Hynes: Well, it's just that he didn't ask, and I was so nervous I wasn't thinking.

Nicole: Just say it.

Hynes: The letter that I gave to Mr. DiMera wasn't the only letter that dr. Baker instructed me to mail.

Nicole: Excuse me?

Hynes: There were two others. And since they weren't addressed to the police, I decided it'd be okay to mail them. So I dropped them in the box in front of the post office just a little while ago.

Nicole: Who were they for?

Hynes: One was for a Mia McCormick, and the other one was for, um, Samantha Brady.

Kate: You made an agonizing decision. Now stick with it.

Daniel: I swear to you, Kate, I am gonna make you pay.

Philip: There is something I think I should tell you.

Arianna: If he's not interested in doing business with the best dealer, I'm just gonna take my business elsewhere.
