Arianna: Look, it was nothing, okay? I swear. Um, I um, well, you are overreacting. You know, you have. You're over--you've misunderstood everything, yes.

Brady: Really, really? I don't think I have.

[Phone ringing]

Kate: Daniel.

Daniel: Kate. Uh, listen... about what happened between us at the pier, I... I mean, am I crazy, or... look, I just don't want things to end the way they did. Tell me, you don't know either.

Nicole: Oh, for God's sake, this is, like, the tenth message I've left you. Where are you, Stefano? I need to talk to you.

E.J.: Sweetheart. Why do you need to talk to my father?

Nicole: You know, I--I just hate when he doesn't pick up his phone. It drives me crazy.

E.J.: Well, what did you want to say to him?

Nicole: Well, I, um, I took some new pictures of Sydney and I wanted to show them to him.

E.J.: You had to call him ten times?

Nicole: Well, I mean, it was more like three, it was an exaggeration.

E.J.: Don't play me for a fool.

Nicole: E.J.

E.J.: How much longer is this going to go on, Nicole? You're hiding the truth from me, you keep your little secrets.

Nicole: No, I don't, I--

E.J.: I'm sure you don't, I'm sure you have some excuse lined up. You're going to tell me, uh, that it's me, that I'm being too controlling. Well, this stops, I've had enough of it.

Rafe: Baker. Dr. Baker. Hey.

Nicole: E.J., please, it's, it's not what you think.

E.J.: Really? What do I think, Nicole? Tell me.

Nicole: Well, I'm not hiding anything from you, you have to believe me.

E.J.: Do I?

Nicole: E.J., I'm begging you. Don't look for problems that aren't there--

E.J.: Save your breath, Nicole. I'm fed up with your deflections and evasions and your furtive phone conversations.

Nicole: Okay, I'll--I'll do better. I'll be, I'll try to be less--

E.J.: No, I--do you know how many passes I've given you? And where does it get me? Back to the same place every single time.

Nicole: E.J., I love you. And all I want is to be with you and Sydney and build a future together, you know that. You guys are my future. You're all I think about. You're my world.

E.J.: Okay. Then you prove that to me. You tell me what you were going to talk to my father about.

Stefano: Do it, Nicole. Go ahead and tell him, hmm? Can't hide it from him forever, you know? As much as we would like to.

Rafe: Hey. [Grunting]

[Door slams]

Kate: We should not have been talking on the pier, we shouldn't be talking now, it's wrong.

Daniel: No, it's not wrong. It doesn't feel wrong. Oh, it feels good.

Kate: Daniel, has it slipped your mind that I am a witness against you?

Daniel: I... I know you are for now.

Kate: Okay, I have to go.

Daniel: Well, you go then. You just go, you're in charge, right? But that's not the Kate I know. So maybe just maybe, this story doesn't have to end. Could be even a few more... dark twists and turns left in us, no?

Kate: Dark twists and turns? What the hell does that even mean?

Daniel: Hmm? I'll tell you what it means. I just don't want this to end.

Kate: Well, maybe you don't want this conversation to end because you're taping it in a last ditch effort to save your ass.

Daniel: No, no. No, no, no, no, no, no. No, I know you don't trust me. You're listening, but you're not hearing me. And if you hear me out, you will really know what's been going on with me these last few months. And you know you can trust me.

Kate: Hmm. Really? Are you really that deluded?

Daniel: Oh, please. Please--this phone, I hate phones. These phones-- you need to see the person, and you need to look into their eyes.

Kate: [Scoffs] I'm going to go. Don't call me back.

Arianna: Look, there is no need for you to be worried about Troy, okay?

Brady: Troy? You need to tell me what the hell is going on here now.

Arianna: Okay. Um, you know after our first run-in, he came to the pub and he apologized to me. Uh, he said that he was high and--when he hassled me. And he said that, you know, the whole experience with you roughing him up, it was like a wake-up call.

Brady: This is great, wow, well, that's great. The guy's a junkie, are you kidding me?

Arianna: Can you just--you just let me finish, please? He said he was, um, doing everything he can to get clean. He was doing a 12-step program. I mean, he apologized like crazy for the way that he treated me. Look, the way I see it is, he's just this, you know, troubled guy. He's doing everything he can to turn his life around.

Brady: [Sighs] You are a very forgiving person, Arianna.

Arianna: Well... I wouldn't have been before, you know, considering all the problems that I had with my ex and his recovery. But you made me see that people can actually change. And you need to give them a second chance.

Brady: I'm sorry. I'm sorry for giving you such a hard time.

Stefano: On second thought... if there is anyone who should explain this situation, it should be me, since, uh, it's all my fault. Right, Nicole?

Nicole: Well, I--I wouldn't put it that way.

Stefano: Oh. [Chuckles] You're being too much. Too much, too kind, too kind. Anyway. The truth, Elvis, is this. We have been planning a surprise birthday party for you. It was an idea I had a few weeks ago and she loved it. As a matter of fact, your wife jumped all over it. See, we thought what would be nice would be a nice kickoff before your honeymoon, eh? Naturally, Nicole was sworn to secrecy.

E.J.: That's what you guys were so frantic about? I feel terrible.

Nicole: Please, E.J., don't.

E.J.: Look, I've been belligerent and insensitive this last week. And I apologize sincerely. And...I ruined your surprise. I'm so sorry.

E.J.: [Sydney crying] You know what, let me do this. Do you mind?

Nicole: No, it's okay, it's okay.

E.J.: Well, I didn't tuck her in earlier, so I'd like to.

Nicole: Okay.

E.J.: Okay. I'm sorry.

Stefano: [Chuckles] [Sighs] Well, Nicole, you are losing your touch.

Nicole: Losing my touch? My world is blowing up. You think I care about losing my touch?

Stefano: Sh, sh, sh, sh, sh. Huh? Too loud.

Nicole: Everything is going to hell in a hand basket and here you are, a picture of serenity.

Stefano: What are you talking about?

Nicole: Dr. Baker. The man refuses to go away. He keeps calling and calling. My God, he even called Sami. That's not a problem for you?

Stefano: For the last time, Dr. Baker is not a problem of yours anymore.

[Knocking on door]

Sami: Hello? Dr. Bak--

Kate: Is he playing me? Why the hell... no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, not possible.

[Phone rings]

Kate: I told you not to call me back.

Lucas: Mom?

Kate: Lucas. Honey. I thought, I-- are you okay? What's going on?

Lucas: I--I need to talk to you about Chloe. I need your help. I need you to help me... decide what to do.

[Monitor beeping]

Kate: [Sighs]

Daniel: Okay, Kate. You're shrewd and ruthless. But I also might know your weakness. And very, very soon, you are gonna feel what it's like to be played.

Melanie: Hey.

Daniel: What's going on?

Melanie: Um.

Daniel: What are you guys doing here?

Melanie: Uh, Brady said you needed someone, and I quote, "with enough medical knowledge to be able to follow what you're saying, but low level enough so that he won't be suspected of anything." So I'm trying to convince Dr. Nathan Horton here that he might fit that bill.

Daniel: Oh, that's really, uh, thank you.

Nathan: Oh, don't thank me yet. I'm not quite sure that I'm willing to follow your directions, whatever they are.

Daniel: Right, I see. Well, we don't have a whole lot of time. And if we're going to help Chloe--

Nathan: Oh, help her, Daniel, or finish the job? Huh? Because unless you can convince me otherwise, this doesn't go any further.

[Both moaning]

Brady: I wanna be alone with you.

Arianna: I want that too.

Brady: The thing is, I just got a text from my grandfather telling me that I have to go home.

Arianna: Like, to the mansion?

Brady: Yeah, I prefer to call it home.

Arianna: Okay, well whatever you call it, isn't it that place that has, like, 20-some odd rooms?

Brady: Yeah, that's the place. What's your point?

Arianna: Um, my point is, I was thinking, well, I don't know, maybe we could find somewhere to be alone there.

Brady: Wow, she's beautiful and she's got great ideas too. Wow.

Arianna: Got a few more where that came from.

Brady: Well then, why don't we go "home" and you can tell me all about 'em?

Arianna: Okay. Or maybe I could just... show you.

Brady: Oh, come on.

Arianna: Okay.

Nicole: I don't understand. Baker's been taken care of? What did you do? Pay him off again?

Stefano: Not exactly.

Sami: Rafe, Rafe. Oh, my God. Rafe? Oh, God, thank God. Are you okay? Here, let me help you up.

Rafe: What the hell are you doing here?

Sami: What am I doing here? What are you doing here? What is he-- is he okay? What-- [Screams]

Daniel: I understand your hesitation.

Nathan: No, I don't think you do, Doc.

Daniel: Course I do. It's very risky for you.

Nathan: Risky? It could end my career.

Daniel: Oh, I get that, believe me. But let me tell you something. I did nothing wrong. I was set up, and now all I want to do is save Chloe's life. Look. Look, I admit, I have made some poor judgments. And because you're Lucas' cousin, I understand that you may resent me, I get that. But put all of that aside and think. Nathan, think about saving a life. 'Cause I think it's your oath. You know, when it comes to medicine, I am never careless and I never make poor judgments. That you better believe.

Nathan: I do.

Daniel: Good. So now either you agree with me right now or not. And if your answer is no, I will find a way. Because I'm going to bring Chloe back, I am going to save her life with or without you.

Kate: There you are.

Lucas: Hey. You okay?

Kate: Yeah, I'm holding up. What's that?

Lucas: It's, uh, Chloe's living will. Something happened tonight that made me think maybe, uh... you know, maybe it's time that we take her off life support.

Kate: [Sighs]

Lucas: What?

Kate: You just made me so happy.

Nicole: What exactly does that mean?

Stefano: Nicole, please, lower your voice because Elvis could be back any moment.

Nicole: Do you even understand how serious this situation is?

Stefano: You're right, Nicole. Please excuse me. I'm new at the game, huh? So tell me. How serious is all of this?

Nicole: So you're gonna be sarcastic now? You're gonna mock me?

Stefano: You're worrying over nothing.

Nicole: Hello, Dr. Baker called Sami and if that's not a troubling turn of events, I don't know what is.

Stefano: Hey, all right, you told me, okay, that Baker reached out through Samantha.

Nicole: What, and that's not a problem for you, you're not worried about that?

Stefano: By Baker's own admission, he told her nothing.

Nicole: But he still could. He--he could still call her. That's if he has a half a brain and a functioning voice box.

Stefano: I think that's hardly likely.

Nicole: You know what I think's unlikely? This not turning into a major disaster. Rafe Hernandez is involved, in case you have forgotten. The ex-FBI cretin stole my cell phone, which means he's probably tracking Baker as we speak.

Stefano: I am tracking Hernandez. I'm having him followed everywhere that he goes. I have been trying to tell you, Nicole, I know what I am doing.

Nicole: But why aren't you concerned about Rafe? I mean, just because you're tracking him doesn't mean that he can't pump that sleaze-ball of a doctor for information.

Stefano: Well, perhaps we can kill two birds with one stone. Hmm?

Rafe: Sh, Sami, quiet. Listen to me. Listen, I am not removing my hand till you can promise me no shrieking, no screaming. Can you do that for me? Okay.

Sami: What happened to him, Rafe?

Rafe: Well, I can't get into that right now. What are you doing here?

Sami: Dr. Baker called me.

Rafe: Why?

Sami: I don't know, he had this bogus story about how he wanted to talk to his former patients. But...oh, my God.

Rafe: Sami, hey, hey, hey, hey. Do you remember what I told you?

Sami: Yeah.

Rafe: Okay. Now I can't get into what happened right now, but I need you to trust me, okay? I did not kill him. All right? Now let's--I know that maybe after what happened with Emily, you think I'm capable of it, but I need you to trust me, listen to me. You need to trust me, okay? That is the only way that we're gonna get out of here. Can you trust me implicitly, can you do that?

Brady: Yeah, the last thing we need is a big electronic paper trail coming back to bite us in the ass, right? [Laughs] Okay. Yeah, y-- yeah, you--do what you can, do what you can, I gotta go. Whoa, whoa, Ari.

Arianna: Whoo.

Brady: Whoa. Um--

Arianna: What? Oh, come on. I wasn't gonna drop this.

Brady: Yeah, yeah, right, I think we should just put this right back where we got it, okay?

Arianna: What?

Brady: All right.

Arianna: What is it, like 10,000 years old or something?

Brady: It's about 2,400, actually, give or take. It's Greek.

Arianna: Wow. Well. I'm pretty stupid. I should have known how invaluable that was.

Brady: Well, how would you have known?

Arianna: You knew.

Brady: Well, my grandfather told me. I grew up around this stuff, you know?

Arianna: Exactly.

Brady: Exactly what?

Arianna: You know, I don't know, I just--sometimes I wonder if we're really ever gonna understand each other. You know? I mean, I came from nothing, I had to fight for everything that I've ever gotten and you--

Brady: What, what, I've sailed through life?

Arianna: No, I don't mean that, okay? Um, I know you've had your problems, but you've never had to, like, struggle to make a buck or to support yourself.

Brady: All right, so we're a little different, you know, so what?

Arianna: It could make for a lot of problems.

Brady: You know what? Or it, uh, could make things really, really interesting.

Daniel: So what's it gonna be, Nathan?

Nathan: I'm in.

Melanie: Yay. Oh, yay! Thank you! Thank you, Nathan, thank you, thank you.

Nathan: It's fine. I made copies of Chloe's, uh, medical files. They're in the car. I'm gonna grab them really quick and we'll take care of this.

Melanie: Okay.

Daniel: Look, Melanie, I don't know what to say, I don't know how to thank you.

Melanie: Hey, no, don't thank me. Uh, thank Brady, he deserves the love. He convinced me to help you and then I apparently convinced Nathan, um... you know, though.

Daniel: Know what?

Melanie: Ooh, not to make this about me, but I do remember you being kind of snarky to me at the hospital a couple times.

Daniel: Snarky, I--I don't... okay. I apologize.

Melanie: It's fine, let's just be honest, I probably deserved it. Yeah. All right, look. I, uh, that aside, I know you're a great doctor and I know you're a good man. I hope Nathan goes fast because, uh, we gotta get this ball moving. We're kind of--the clock is ticking, you know?

Daniel: The clock is ticking, what does that mean?

Melanie: You don't know?

Daniel: No, what?

Melanie: Well, on the way over, Nathan was telling me that, uh... you know what? You're going through enough stress as it is--

Daniel: No, no, no, Melanie.

Melanie: I, uh, okay, um--

Daniel: Tell me.

Melanie: Chloe left a living will and Lucas is gonna pull the plug tonight.

Lucas: Mother, my God, I cannot believe you. Unbelievable.

Kate: What?

Lucas: How can you react like this? How could you react like that? How can you actually be happy?

Kate: Lucas. Everyone knows that this is difficult for you, all right? But Chloe is not coming back to us. Her mind is already gone. And yes, I do believe that it's best to let nature take its course. That's why I'm happy. I'm happy...because I can't stand seeing you suffer like this in this terrible limbo.

Lucas: Chloe's the one in limbo.

Kate: I know that, all right? But you are my son. You're still conscious, you're the one that I'm concerned about. Besides, you've been through hell, I want you to find some kind of relief, Lucas.

Lucas: You know, earlier I did talk to Chloe's dad. And he supports you. I mean, he feels the same way. He doesn't think that she'd want to live like this.

Kate: Well.

Lucas: Might be best to let her go.

Kate: If her family has already accepted the inevitable, I really don't think there is any reason to wait, do you?

Lucas: There is one other consideration.

Kate: What's that?

Lucas: Well, if I remove all extraordinary measures and Chloe does die, and Daniel won't be just facing attempted murder, he'll be looking at murder one.

Kate: Maybe. Maybe not.

Nicole: Maybe you can stop talking in riddles and tell me what is going on.

E.J.: Finally, got her down. Father, can I have a word with my wife just--

Stefano: No, no, no, no, that's all right, fine. I'll be upstairs if you need me, huh?

E.J.: Thank you. Do you forgive me?

Nicole: Forgive--yeah. I mean, no. No, I don't. No. Mm-mm.

E.J.: No?

Nicole: No. I don't forgive you. Because you have nothing to apologize for.

E.J.: Nicole, you did a wonderful thing and I ruined it by being suspicious.

Nicole: Well, I--I understand. I was acting furtively like you said. No wonder you were suspicious.

E.J.: Well, whatever. Enough with this, you know? I think I have a predisposition to being paranoid because of my past relationship. I don't know why. I have a wonderful wife. I have my son, I have my daughter. That is what is gonna make this the best birthday I've ever had.

Nicole: [Laughs] Yeah.

E.J.: I love you.

Nicole: I love you.

Sami: Oh, God. Rafe, I'm really freaking out about this.

Rafe: Yeah, I can see that and I don't blame you, but you need to trust me, okay? I didn't kill him.

Sami: I know you... Rafe, I know that, okay?

Rafe: Okay.

Sami: I know that you-- I know that no matter what is going on right now, whatever has happened, I know, I know that you didn't kill that man and I know you wouldn't look me in the eye--

[Knocking on door]

Sami: Oh, my God. Oh, my God, it's the police, Rafe.

Melanie: Uh, Nathan said something about Chloe's living will and how there's talk about cutting her off life support. Uh...

Daniel: What? No, no. Oh, this can't...

Nathan: Luckily I was able to make copies. They're in chronological order so we can follow-- everything okay?

Daniel: No, everything's definitely not okay.

Nathan: Well, what's--what's wrong?

Melanie: Uh, I told him about the whole living will situation.

Daniel: Oh, there's no time. They're gonna cut off Chloe's iv and feeding tube. Oh, okay. I've--I've gotta go in there and I gotta give Chloe the drug myself.

Melanie: You can't, there's a guard outside, you're not--you can't do it, there's no way.

Nathan: Unless--

Daniel: What? Unless what?

Nathan: There may be a way.

Sami: What are we gonna do?

[Knocking on door]

Woman: Housekeeping.

Rafe: No thanks. Maybe next time.

Sami: Oh, thank God.

Rafe: Okay. We're safe for now. We got lucky this time.

Sami: This time?

Rafe: Yeah, this time. This was a setup, you know. It's only a matter of time before there's a tip and the police show up here.

Sami: What do you mean, you think someone set you up--

Rafe: Yeah, of course they did. You kidding? Did anyone see you come up here?

Sami: I don't know, probably. How did you get here? What are you doing here?

Rafe: I will tell you when we are safe, okay?

Sami: Oh, God. Oh, God, oh, God. Do you really think he's dead?

Rafe: It's pretty obvious, don't you think? Let's just make sure.

Brady: Mm. I have an idea.

Arianna: Wait. I thought I was the idea person.

Brady: You know what, I can have an idea every once in a while, all right?

Arianna: Okay. Let's hear it.

Brady: It's a really hot night. It might be the last one of the summer, so I think we should go for another swim.

Arianna: Oh. That sounds nice.

Brady: Yeah?

Arianna: Only...

Brady: Only what?

Arianna: I don't have a suit.

Brady: I don't either.

Arianna: Okay.

Brady: Okay.

Arianna: Mm-hmm.

Kate: And with Justin in town as Daniel's attorney--

Lucas: You think this guy's good enough to get him off?

Kate: Well, he's a brilliant attorney, he is. But he doesn't have much litigation experience, but I'm sure he will present a vigorous defense.

Lucas: Yeah. Hope he can sleep at night.

Kate: Look, Lucas, all I'm saying is that we can't be absolutely certain that Daniel will be convicted for this horrific crime.

Lucas: What are you telling me, Mom? You telling me he's gonna walk now?

Kate: I'm not telling you that he's gonna go free, I'm just saying you need to brace ourselves for the fact that justice may not be served.

Lucas: Well, he did fool us, didn't he? I'm sure he can fool a jury too.

Kate: Yeah. He put one over on us. Pretending to be happy for you and Chloe, only wanting the best for the two of you.

Lucas: Mm-hmm. Lying through his teeth.

Kate: Yeah. Maybe his finest talent.

Lucas: I just don't understand how he can do it so easily. I mean, I'd love to know what goes on in that twisted mind of his.

Kate: So would I. And maybe someday we will. But right now, I think we need to concentrate on other things. Like your very difficult decision.

Lucas: Yeah, I know. I can't believe it. I can't believe it's come to this.

Kate: Honey, I can't believe it either, I really can't. But sadly, it has. And after everything that you've told me, I believe there's only one thing you can do. And that's to bring this very painful chapter with Chloe to a close. Tonight.

Melanie: Hey, Dennis. Right? I'm Melanie. I work here.

Dennis: Melanie. Oh, that's right. Yeah, yeah, sorry. I'm bad with names.

Melanie: Oh, hey, no, don't worry about it. I am awful with names. Faces like that, you know, but I'm lucky if I remember my own name sometimes.

Dennis: Right.

Melanie: Uh, anyways, I'm just, uh, just reading some magazines. Just, uh, passing the time. It's kind of quiet here.

[Monitor beeping]

Melanie: Anyways, I'm new here. So you're excused this time, but I'm just waiting for my friend, I'm supposed to meet up with her for dinner and I'm just, like, reading a gossip magazine to the kill the time. It's kind of a guilty pleasure, so let me get back to it.

[Monitor beeping]

[Monitor beeping]

Daniel: Un-uh. [Sniffles]

Kate: What is it?

Lucas: Oh, just, you know, this whole thing.

Kate: Honey, what are you talking about?

Lucas: What we're doing here, Mom. I just--I can't.

Kate: Baby, I know this is agonizing, I know it is. But Chloe deserves some peace. You deserve some peace. You should at least give the instruction to the nurses. Just start the process. As painful as it is, it has to be done.

Lucas: All right. All right. I'll do it myself, okay?

Kate: All right. Whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

Lucas: All right.

Kate: Okay, you go talk to the nurse. I'm gonna stop in and see Chloe. For the last time.

Arianna: [Laughing]

Brady: This is crazy.

Arianna: I know.

Brady: You're, uh, you're shivering.

Arianna: Yeah. The water was freezing.

Brady: I know, I know. Think I can warm you up, though.

Sami: So does he have a pulse? Did you check it?

Rafe: Well, I'm gonna get to that.

Sami: All right.

Rafe: Here. You got it?

Sami: Yeah.

Stefano: Oops. Ah, I'm sorry to interrupt, but there's a business associate that has a question that Elvis should answer. He's on the office phone.

E.J.: Okay. I won't be long.

Nicole: Okay.

E.J.: Hopefully.

Nicole: So back to it.

Stefano: Back to?

Nicole: The little conversation we were having about Baker and Rafe. And please, please, please, no riddles this time.

Stefano: Fine. You want blunt? I'll give you blunt. Baker is dead.

Nicole: What?

Stefano: Dead. D-E-A-D. The nothing but a rotten memory. It's over, Nicole.

Nicole: No, it's not. It will never be over.

Stefano: [Sighs]

Brady: Oh, my God.

Arianna: That's a serious look.

Brady: Arianna, if you don't... if you don't wanna go any further with this, you'd better tell me because, uh, if you don't then, um--

Arianna: I don't. Wanna stop.

Melanie: He's been gone an awfully long time.

Nathan: All right, well let's just try and keep our cool.

Melanie: Okay, I know but what if a guard runs in and walks in on him?

Nathan: Okay, okay, okay, okay. Um, got an idea. Follow my lead.

Melanie: Okay.

Lucas: Hey, uh, Nathan and Melanie.

Nathan: Hey, Lucas.

Melanie: Hi there.

Lucas: Um, I have a favor to ask you guys.

Nathan: Of course.

Lucas: Well I, um, I've been, uh, filling out a lot of orders for Chloe's situation. And, um, there's a lot of forms and stuff so if anyone has any questions at all, I'll be in Chloe's room. My mom's in there now.

[Monitor beeping]

Daniel: Just a few more minutes and then I gotta go. I can't get caught 'cause if I do... God. Oh, God, I love you. So much.

Stefano: How can you say it's not over, Nicole? The man is dead.

Nicole: He wrote a letter.

Stefano: What letter?

Nicole: To the authorities... in the event of his death.

Stefano: In the event of what?

Nicole: He reveals everything. The whole truth about the baby switch, the bribes, everything.

Stefano: Who has this accursed letter?

Nicole: His lawyer.

Stefano: Ah.

Sami: Hey, Rafe.

[Knocking on door]

Man: Ma'am, this is a police matter. You either hand me that key or we break in.

Rafe: We don't have a lot of time. Let's go.

[Knocking continues]

Stefano: Forget about it. All your lies, everything that you have done is now going to become public knowledge.

Arianna: Ahh.

Lucas: I have made my decision. We are doing this. We're doing it now.

Kate: It's time to say good-bye, Chloe. Nowhere. And as soon as you stepped in, it was exactly what we wanted to see.
