Maxine: Miss Sydney, you are about the cutest thing I have ever seen.
Nicole: Yeah, well, pretty soon she's gonna be screaming in agony, all because of some senseless test.
Maxine: You know, Mom, the best thing you can do is step outside the room while we draw the blood.
Nicole: Are you kidding? When I know she's being tortured in here?
Maxine: [Chuckles] It's not quite that bad, now. And in my experience, uh, it's best if Mom's outside the room.
Nicole: Well, what if she needs me to hold her?
Maxine: I mean it's best for the baby. They're not as stressed. Trust me, we won't be long.
Nicole: Okay. Listen, honey, Mommy will be back soon, okay? I promise.
Maxine: It's gonna be just fine.
Nicole: All right, don't get upset.
Nicole: It's okay.
Nicole: Okay, I'm going, I'm going.
Maxine: Aw, it's okay.
Nicole: [Sighs] Damn it, Stefano. You better come through for me.
Stefano: When did I ever let you down?
Rafe: So this woman, Nicole Walker-- you did not see her with the British guy?
Sarah: Sorry, I-I don't connect their faces for some reason.
Rafe: Well, if you don't, you don’t. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help.
Sarah: Wait, that's her.
Sarah: That woman there on the phone.
Rafe: Uh, Sami?
Sarah: She was the one who came in the night the British guy was here.
Rafe: No, no, I think you must have your dates mixed up. There's no way that Sami was here with the British guy.
Sarah: Yes, they were. I remember. The British guy came in. She was here. She gave birth to a baby girl.
Rafe: You're sure?
Sarah: Positive. I don't understand, though. What does this woman giving birth here that night have to do with your friend Nicole?
Rafe: That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Bo: So we work together. I won't spring any more surprises on you.
Hope: We work together. But, Bo... after Zack... we almost didn't make it. If anything happens to Ciara--
Bo: Hey, hey, don't think like that.
Hope: One of these days, you're gonna have to stop telling me what to think, Brady.
Bo: We'll find Ciara. She'll be fine. Trust in that.
Hope: I wish I could. Bo... you had a vision. They don't always come true. You don't know what's gonna happen any more than I do. But what I do know... is we need to get our daughter back.
Bo: The minute we give them that money, they have no reason to keep her alive.
Hope: And if we don't do what they say, they'll have no reason to keep her alive.
Bo: We're not gonna lose our daughter. And I'm not gonna lose you. I'll do anything I have to.
Kyle: Why should we even trust you, man?
Brenda: Kyle, just give him a chance to explain the new plan.
Kyle: The only reason we even need a new plan is 'cause his old plan blew up in our face.
Dean: So what do you want to do? You want to just cut and run, huh? After all the work we just did?
Brenda: No, I th--I think what my brother's worried about is--
Kyle: Look, it's not even a ransom anymore. It's--it's a reward. Yeah, anybody that--that gets us, they--they get the prize. Yeah, we're targets now.
Dean: Shut up and let me talk.
Brenda: Baby... look, we're all a little scared here, okay? Can we just try to stay cool?
Dean: Look, Bo Brady thinks he's calling the shots. So what do we do?
Kyle: You tell us, man.
Dean: We go around him. He's got a weakness, and I'm gonna use it.
Brenda: What's his weakness?
Dean: That bitch he calls his wife. I am gonna use her to make him change his mind.
Hope: Does that mean... you'll drop the reward? Because Justin was right-- we can send a message to the kidnappers, tell them we made a mistake, tell them they can have their ransom money as long as they give our daughter back.
Bo: I'm not gonna turn over the only leverage we've got and pray those bastards do the right thing.
Hope: She's our child. This isn't a game.
Bo: I don't think it is a game.
Hope: You heard what they said. They'll kill her! They'll kill her, Bo! Don't you understand?
Bo: Not if we get to them first. And that's exactly what we're gonna do.
Will: Hey, look, I'm sorry too, but I just can't, okay? All right, yeah. Thanks, man.
Tad: Hey, man.
Will: Oh, hey, what's up?
Tad: Not much. I got your message. What's going on?
Will: Uh, listen, man, I hate to do this, but, uh, I'm not gonna be able to make the party tonight.
Tad: What? You, like, practically organized the whole thing, though. You collected all the cash. You got me to do the music.
Will: Okay, yeah, yeah, I know, but listen, my... my little cousin's missing. And my whole family's freaking out trying to find her, so...
Tad: Dude, I'm sorry.
Will: Yeah, thanks. But you got to hope for the best. Oh, yeah, since I'm not gonna be able to make it tonight, you know...
Chad: I can step in. Just tell me what you guys need. You got it.
Will: Uh, thanks, but no thanks. Later.
Chad: So will's not gonna be at the party tonight, huh? Wonder what Mia's gonna do for company.
Dr. Baker: No, no, no, wait, wait, wait. Just listen to me, okay? I-I can get you the money. I just need a little bit of time. A couple of hundred grand at this hour--okay, here's what I'm thinking. Why don't you j-- hello? Hello?
Stefano: There's no way that anyone is gonna find out that you are not... [Sighs] Sydney's biological mother.
Nicole: You're positive? I mean, we're taking a huge risk with this DNA test.
[Cell phone ringing]
Stefano: [Sighs] Ah, how many ways do I have to say it, hmm? No one is going to find out the truth--not this hospital, not Hernandez, and not Sami Brady. Now, if you please excuse me, I have to deal with a very annoying man. Mr. Hall, how nice to hear from you. How are you? [Chuckles] Wonderful.
Nicole: There's no way I'm gonna lose my baby.
Mia: What? Nicole, is there something wrong with Sydney?
Rafe: Can you see if Sami Brady was scheduled to be here the same day that Nicole had her baby?
Sarah: Yeah. [Sighs] All right, 28th...
Sarah: Huh, that's weird.
Rafe: What is?
Sarah: I distinctly remember seeing that woman in the picture, Sami.
Sarah: But there's no patient named Brady listed, although Dr. Baker didn't always do things by the book.
Sarah: As I told you, he saw patients after hours and didn't keep records. He was probably saving on taxes or something.
Rafe: Yeah, or something. You have absolutely no recollection of ever seeing this woman?
Rafe: And yet she's in the records, and Sami isn’t.
Sarah: Look, I don't know what else I can tell you, and I have to go to my mother's to pick up my son.
Rafe: Okay, Sarah, thank you so much for everything, really.
Sarah: You're welcome. Y-you know, if you really want to find out what happened that night, why don't you just ask your friends Sami and Nicole?
Rafe: I may just have to do that.
Arianna: Something tells me you didn't find what you wanted to know.
Rafe: [Scoffs] Not exactly.
Arianna: Come on, it's a slow night. Don't leave me hanging.
Rafe: I met with a nurse who used to assist at Baker's clinic. All records are pretty much a shambles. Most everything was deleted. But apparently, Nicole gave birth at the clinic on January 28th.
Rafe: Well, the problem is the nurse does not remember seeing her, no memory whatsoever, and she was assisting Baker that night.
Arianna: So she should've been assisting during the delivery, then.
Rafe: Right, and get this. She also remembers EJ being there the same night.
Arianna: Well, what's weird about that? The father comes running-- except, wait a minute. How can this nurse be so sure of who she saw on what night way back in January?
Rafe: Well, because she remembers assisting Sami in her delivery that night.
Arianna: But you knew that Sami delivered at Baker's clinic, though, right?
Rafe: Yeah. But, Ari, I did not know that EJ was there. I mean, it's kind of miraculous that Nicole and Sami give birth at the same place on the same night. It's not a big place. They would've seen each other.
Arianna: Something's not adding up.
Rafe: You got that right.
Nicole: Sydney's fine. Mia, don't worry.
Mia: Then why is she in the hospital?
Nicole: It's just, um, blood work.
Mia: Blood work for what?
Nicole: To make sure she's healthy. W-w-we're all getting tested.
Mia: Why all of you?
Nicole: Just in case. EJ's just being hyper-cautious, that's all. [Sighs]
Mia: I don't understand.
Nicole: It's--it's no big deal, really.
Mia: Why all of you, Nicole?
Nicole: [Clears throat] Because... we're just getting some DNA samples.
Mia: Oh, my God, DNA?
Nicole: Look, honey, I-I've got it covered, all right? The tests are gonna say that I am the mother and that EJ is the father.
Mia: No, no, see, they won't, because DNA doesn't lie.
Nicole: Well, someone has to interpret the DNA test.
Mia: Oh, of course, so they're gonna lie, this someone?
Nicole: Shh, please, keep your voice down.
Mia: Why didn't you just call me? I could've given blood, so that way the DNA would've matched, and if anything did go wrong, the hospital would have the right information.
Nicole: Honey, can we not do this right now? Besides, you lost the right to have a say in Sydney’s life when you gave her up. You didn't want to hold her, remember? And you told me yourself that you didn't have a connection, that you didn't feel anything.
Mia: Yeah, and there's a very good reason for that.
[Knock at door]
Officer: Excuse me, Commissioner, the TV guys are ready.
Bo: Okay, thanks. You with me on this?
[Knock at door]
Justin: Good luck, Bo.
Justin: You okay?
Hope: Bo going on air is putting Ciara in even more danger. No. [Crying] I'm not okay.
Kyle: You're nuts, man. The guy is the commissioner of the police. He means what he says.
Dean: Listen for a second.
Kyle: No, there's no way that he is gonna let his wife talk him into giving us the money!
Dean: Shut up and listen.
Brenda: It's okay. It's okay. We're listening. Come on.
Dean: Nobody is going anywhere until I say so.
Brenda: Okay, nobody is running anywhere yet. But Kyle’s got a point. What if your plan doesn't work?
Dean: It will. Hope will change his mind, and you can take that to the bank.
Hope: I told him they'll take it out on Ciara if he goes public, but he wouldn't listen. He never listens to anybody.
Justin: I'm sure he thinks he's doing what's right.
Hope: Oh, I'm sure he does. But he's not. He is so wrong.
Bo: My name is Bo Brady. I'm the commissioner of police here in Salem. But... I'm not speaking to you as a policeman this evening. I'm talking to you as a father. My five-year-old daughter Ciara was kidnapped while attending carnival night at the park. I am offering a $5 million reward for any information that will help us find her... and also help us find the people who took her. Ciara's just an innocent little child. And the people who took her... well, they belong in prison. Like I said, I'm offering a $5 million reward. So I beg you... help us find her. Please.
Kyle: What's going on?
Bo: Anything you may have noticed, anything suspicious, unusual, call the number on your screen. Don't check it out yourself. Let the police do that. We desperately need your help. My little girl desperately needs your help.
Bo: This is Ciara. I'm sure every mother and father will say that their daughter is, uh, funny and smart and... special. And Hope and I feel the same way about our daughter. And we're hoping that, with your help, she'll be home safe in our arms very soon. If you think you've seen her, more than likely in the company of at least two adults, please call us here at the Salem PD, and we'll take it from there. Like I said, the reward is $5 million. And we have it here... waiting for you. This is what the kidnappers thought they were gonna get as a ransom. It's now a reward for the safe return of Ciara and the capture of the people who took her from us. I'm not the only one asking for your help. My wife, Ciara’s mother, is asking for your help too. Hope.
Hope: Please help--help us. Help our little girl, please. Help us.
Arianna: Hey, I just thought of something.
Arianna: If Sami’s name wasn't listed in the records at the clinic, wouldn't that be because she used an alias?
Arianna: [Laughs] Oh... my FBI brother already thought of that one.
Rafe: Yeah, well, Sami’s birth at the clinic--I mean, that's a given. The name she used is not important.
Arianna: It's Nicole you're worried about.
Rafe: Yeah, because the nurse has no memory of her being there, ever.
Arianna: Well, then odds are, she didn't give birth there, then, right?
Rafe: Well, she said she did.
Arianna: But then why would EJ show up?
Rafe: Because Nicole called him and told him that's where she was giving birth.
Arianna: Even though she wasn’t.
Rafe: Well, surprise, Nicole lied... maybe. Unless...
Arianna: Unless what?
Rafe: Unless she found out that Sami was giving birth at baker's clinic and decided to show up for some other reason.
Arianna: Like what? To do something?
Rafe: And she hopes no one will ever find out what it is.
Nicole: Mia... you didn't bond with Sydney when she was born, and... and that's okay, but you don't have to get upset.
Mia: I didn't bond with her, because I didn't want to let myself feel anything. I loved little Grace so much, and all I did was baby-sit for her sometimes. I knew that if I bonded with Sydney and I let myself feel something, it would just make it harder... [Crying] And harder to let go.
Nicole: Well, that was a... a very unselfish act that you did.
Mia: But that does not mean that I don't care about her or what happens to her.
Nicole: I know, I know, of course not.
Mia: And this idea that you're gonna rig some test results so nobody will know that you're the mother--that's just stupid, Nicole.
Nicole: Shh, please, please keep your voice down.
Mia: Nicole, what if she gets really sick like Grace did, and they need real DNA? Please just... let me give blood, so they'll have the right information.
Nicole: I'm handling it, Mia. And I really do appreciate you wanting to help, but le--let me just do this my way. And the best thing for you to do is keep your distance. Could this day get any worse? [Sighs]
[Cell phone ringing]
Nicole: [Zipper opens] Ugh. Hello?
Dr. Baker: Well, hi, there. Just wanted to ask you how it was going, Mrs. DiMera.
Nicole: What the hell do you want now?
Dr. Baker: Well, I thought I'd give you a courtesy call before I got a hold of Sami Brady and told her what really happened at the clinic that night.
Mia: [Thinking] I'm so stupid sometimes. No way can I be a good mom to Sydney. It's too late. I should just stay away, like Nicole said, live my life and be with Will. But if Will knew the truth about me, the baby... maybe I should stay away from him too. Besides, last time I thought I had all these stupid feelings for a guy...
[Soft pop music] Mmm.. Ooh… Ah…/ I fall deeper in love
Mia: [Thinking] It's weird. Even though he left and I had to have my baby all alone, I still don't hate Chad. I should, I guess. I wish I could. But I don’t.
Arianna: Okay, Rafe, you're--you're losing me here. So Nicole finds out Sami’s having her baby at the clinic, so she goes there and what?
Rafe: No, well, I'm guessing, okay? But I think that Nicole was at the clinic to do something to Grace.
Arianna: What? To do something to harm her?
Rafe: Well, maybe Nicole somehow found out that Grace was Sami’s child with EJ, and she wanted to eliminate the competition.
Arianna: No, no, Rafe, that--that's cold.
Rafe: Even for Nicole?
Arianna: Even for Nicole.
Rafe: Oh, maybe. What about EJ? He finds out that Grace is his child with Sami. It ties the two of them closer together. I think Nicole would do anything she could to stop that from happening.
Arianna: But if Nicole had done something to Grace, I... wait a minute. Rafe, Sami and Nicole are friends, I mean, kind of.
Rafe: Yeah, well, call it guilt. Whatever Nicole did at the clinic that night, now she's feeling guilty, so she makes friends with Sami to soothe her conscience.
Arianna: I guess that's possible.
Rafe: Yeah, it's possible. Ari, I'm telling you, when Grace died, whenever... [Scoffs] Whenever we talked about Grace, I mean, Nicole--she was like a basket case. It was pathetic, like she somehow blamed herself for her death. I know guilt when I see it.
Arianna: I don't know, Rafe. I mean, you're a really smart guy, but this is a stretch. I mean, doing something to hurt a newborn baby?
Rafe: Yeah, well, when it comes to Nicole... I wouldn't put it past her.
Nicole: Do you really think that Sami’s gonna believe you if you tell her your little fantasy about... babies being switched at birth?
Dr. Baker: Oh, she'd believe it, all right, 'cause I could give her proof.
Nicole: Well, I have a little news for you. Sami and I are friends now. She trusts me.
Dr. Baker: [Laughs] Nicole, nobody trusts you. Even baby Sydney knows her mom's a liar by now.
Nicole: So what the hell do you want? You told me after I gave you the 100,000 that your blackmailing days were over and that we were through.
Dr. Baker: Yeah, yeah, well, um, I thought we were.
Nicole: Oh, my God. You blew it all.
Dr. Baker: Well, actually, I had 20 grand left over after paying off the debt, and I actually doubled it on one race, but then I... got a lot of credit and sort of got overextended, and I'm down 200,000.
Nicole: I don't believe this.
Dr. Baker: Yeah, well, if you see the kind of guys that they send to collect the debt, you would believe it in a heartbeat, so... so what's it gonna be? Do I tell, uh, Sami Brady about the baby switch?
Nicole: We had a deal, you son of a bitch.
Dr. Baker: Yeah, well, you know, that was the old deal. This is the new deal.
Nicole: Well, then you realize, of course, that if you drop the bomb, the whole building comes down on you too. Is that what you want--to spend the rest of your life in prison?
Dr. Baker: Well... um, three square meals and nobody breaking every bone in my body. That sounds like heaven. So, Nicole, what's it gonna be-- more money for me or no more good life for you?
Nicole: I'll get back to you. [Sighing] No. No. He's not gonna say a word, not to Sami or anyone.
Arianna: All right, I'm gonna be blunt here, okay?
Rafe: As opposed to your usual subtlety? Go for it.
Arianna: Rafe, unless there's something you're not telling me, you've got absolutely no proof against Nicole of anything and definitely not that she did something to hurt Grace.
Rafe: Well, Nicole was up to something. The only thing that's logical to me is that she was doing something to Grace.
Arianna: And you're not gonna quit until you know what it was.
Rafe: No, I'm not.
Arianna: You do realize you'll be going up against the DiMeras, right? They're not gonna like you poking around in Nicole’s life.
Rafe: No, no, this is something that I have to do, Ari.
Arianna: For Grace.
Rafe: For Grace.
Arianna: And for Sami.
Rafe: [Inhales deeply] And for Sami.
Arianna: But why? If things are over between you two, just...
Rafe: So what? Things are over. It doesn't mean I don't still love her.
Nicole: [Sighs] Did they stick a big, bad needle in you, honey, huh? I hope you screamed your head off and told them how much you hated it.
Maxine: Mrs. DiMera?
Nicole: Oh, my God, what's wrong?
Maxine: Nothing. It's just that I'm assembling Sydney’s, uh, file, and since she wasn't born here, we don't have a palm or a footprint. Would you mind? It'll only take a few minutes.
Nicole: Oh, okay. I guess so. Um, hey, sweetheart, she's not gonna hurt you this time, I promise.
Maxine: Oh, it won't be bad.
Nicole: Just in case.
Maxine: We'll be right back.
Stefano: Why do you look so upset? I told you I would not let you down, hmm? And for your information, the tests are now complete. You and Elvis are forever connected with Sydney’s DNA.
Nicole: Great. Good.
Stefano: Nicole, you know, a little thank you would be nice.
Nicole: Oh, I'm... I'm sorry, Stefano. Thank you.
Stefano: What's wrong?
Nicole: Oh, I don't know. How about I just, uh, got a call from the good old Dr. Dick Baker? Does that qualify?
Stefano: [Sighs] Baker--what does that swine want now?
Nicole: 200 grand, or he tells Sami everything.
Hope: You son of a bitch. How could you do that to me?
Bo: What are you talking--
Hope: Forcing me to go on camera with you like that.
Bo: I didn't force you to do anything.
Hope: Oh, right, you say--you call my name, and the camera takes a shot. I mean, what was I supposed to do? What was I supposed to do--tell you to--tell you to go to hell?
Bo: Hope, you got to calm--
Hope: Or maybe what I should've done is I should've gone on camera and told everyone I never wanted anything to do with this in the first place. Oh, that my husband thinks he can make those bastards give our daughter back, and it's never gonna work.
Bo: I thought it was important for people to see Ciara's parents--
Hope: You're gonna get her killed, Bo!
Bo: I'm doing what I think is right.
Bo: If we give them the money--
Hope: Oh, just shut up about the money. This is about Ciara's life.
Bo: When are you gonna see that Ciara's life is tied directly to the money?
Hope: I can't take it anymore. I can't stand it. I can't stand to look at you. I can't stand to listen to you.
Bo: Hope, we got--
[Cell phone ringing]
Bo: Hold on. You should wait and see if there's any response to this--
[Cell phone ringing]
Bo: Brady. Yes, governor, uh, I appreciate the call. Yes, sir, uh, state police are doing what they can. Thank you.
[Light pop music]
Mia: Hey, T.
Tad: Mia, you showed. Awesome.
Mia: Yeah. Uh, where's will?
Tad: Oh, man, will's not gonna make it. He's got big family drama. That girl that's missing--that's his cousin.
Mia: Oh, really?
Tad: Yeah, uh, bad news, really bad news.
Mia: Yeah, uh--yeah, I should probably go call him.
Mia: So I'll see you later, okay?
Tad: Cool. Ah!
Chad: What up, T-unit?
Tad: What up? Um, I'm doing this music thing, actually. I, uh, left my stupid headphones in the car. I got to find someone to watch this and, um...
Chad: Oh, go for it, man. Got you covered.
Tad: Cool, thanks. Awesome. I'll be right back.
Chad: Oh, uh, take your time.
[Soft pop music] Mmm… ooh… ah…
Stefano: Nicole, uh, I warned you about trying to appease this type of chronic gambler, huh? That kind of man--his word is never worth anything.
Nicole: No kidding. But if we don't give him the money, he will go straight to Sami.
Stefano: Will he?
Nicole: What, you don't believe him? The man is desperate.
Stefano: [Sighs] $100,000 last time... $200,000 this time. Hmm, my, my. The man is moving up.
Nicole: [Clicks tongue] Stefano, I'm scared.
Stefano: You see... [Clears throat] The problem with moving up is, uh, how much further you have to go when you fall down.
Kyle: Great. Now we got a $5 million target on our backs.
Brenda: Dean, I-I'm really scared.
Dean: You two stop your whining. You're as bad as the little girl.
Brenda: She--she's awake.
Dean: Which means what, Brenda? Nothing, because she can't see or hear anything.
Kyle: Yeah, she's as good as dead, which is exactly what we're gonna be if anybody figures out who we are.
Dean: Shut up and let me think for a minute!
Brenda: Baby, look, I say it's time that we get the hell out of Salem like we planned, right? Kyle goes back to L.A. I go to Miami. You--you go back to work all concerned and everything, and we ditch the little girl.
Dean: It is not gonna happen. We are gonna get that money one way or the other.
[Lighter opening, closing]
Hope: [Sighs] [Sniffles] [Crying softly]
Justin: Hope. [Sighs] I wish there was something I could do.
Hope: He made me do it. I'm as guilty as he is.
Hope: What he's doing--what he's doing is going to get our daughter killed.
Justin: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Listen... look, I know things look bad right now, but you cannot give up hope, okay?
Justin: You can't give up hope.
Rafe: I'm gonna figure out this Nicole thing for you, Sami... before I say good-bye.
Nicole: Stefano, I told you, the man is desperate. I mean, he said--he said he'd rather go to prison than face the people he owes money to.
Stefano: Oh. Dr. Baker is obviously frightened.
Nicole: Exactly. So if he calls Sami, he's liable to say anything.
Stefano: No, no, Samantha has no money for him, and that is the typical mistake that blackmailers make when they, uh, try to bluff, you see?
Nicole: Stefano, what are we gonna do?
Stefano: I am going to deal with Dr. Baker. You are going to remain calm.
Nicole: Calm. Right.
Stefano: Come here, come here, come--come--come here. [Sighs] Trust me, my dear, hmm? Nothing bad is going to happen... to us. Your secret is safe.
Kyle: Hold--hold it.
Brenda: Oh. Okay, keep still, you little brat. Okay.
Dean: Look, we're all exhausted, and we need food, including the kid. So why don't you and Brenda go across the street and get some sandwiches at that fast-food place? I'll watch the little girl.
Kyle: Fine. I'm sick of this anyway.
Brenda: Oh, come on.
Brenda: Come on.
[Lighter opening, closing]
Justin: [Clears throat]
Bo: I need you to step back. You're getting too involved.
Justin: Right. I'll be in touch. Take care, Hope.
Hope: Thank you, Justin.
Bo: Okay... you don't like the way I'm handling this, but let's just keep it at that, not make it personal.
Hope: Personal? You're risking our daughter's life, and I'm not supposed to think it's personal?
Bo: Ciara's life would be at risk no matter what we do.
Hope: What we should've done already is pay the ransom, and we'd all be home right now. But instead, my husband has to go on television and turn this into a war, us against them, with our daughter in the middle.
Bo: I did it for our daughter.
Hope: If something happens to our daughter... [Crying] If she dies... the blood will be on both of our hands. And I will never forgive you. Never.
Sami: You're not my lover, you're not my hero. Get out of my life, if you don't mind.
EJ: So why didn't you tell me the truth?
Brenda: I think we should just call it quits now.
Bo: Can you find it in your heart to stick with me on this?
