Arianna: Any luck?
Rafe: Not yet. Still working the message boards.
Arianna: Fairway Urgent Care Clinic. How long did Baker work there?
Rafe: Baker didn't just work there, he ran the place. I just need to find some sort of connection between him and Nicole Di--
Arianna: What's the message say?
Rafe: Someone's agreed to meet me. Says they have information on dr. Richard M. Baker.
Nicole: Why won't you answer the phone?
Dr. Baker: Nicole DiMera. To what do I owe the immense pleasure?
Nicole: Did you get it?
Dr. Baker: Get what, the-- oh, you mean the hundred grand that you wired into my account? Oh, yeah, I got it. It just slipped my mind. I meant to call you. Pardon my rudeness.
Nicole: Then you and I are done. I'm never gonna hear from you again, right?
E.J.: Are you trying to tell me how to run my business? Well, if that's the way you wish to proceed, I have lawyers that can tie you up in court for the next ten years. Good day.
Stefano: I need a good stiff drink.
E.J.: Father, the doctor told you no alcohol.
Stefano: Hey, I'm a big boy, all right? If I want to have a drink, I will have a bloody drink.
E.J.: Okay, well, just why don't you tell me what it is that has you so upset.
Stefano: We have a problem, my son... ahh. Of major proportions.
Philip: So what are you saying? You want to get back together?
Stephanie: I thought you wanted that too. Did something happen?
Philip: Look, Stephanie...
Stephanie: Melanie? Why is she... um, what's-- what's going on here?
Melanie: I, uh, came to talk to Philip.
Stephanie: I get that. But why?
Melanie: Do you want to tell her, or should I?
Hope: [Whispering] Where are you? Where's my little girl?
Kyle: Hey, you're gonna be seeing your mommy real soon, okay? Everything's gonna be fine.
Woman: Hey! What are you doing?
Kyle: Trying to make her feel better.
Woman: You are giving her false hope. We don't know what's gonna happen, do we?
Kyle: Wh-- where are you going?
Woman: Dean figured it'd be a good idea for me to hit the ransom location. Make sure the cops aren't double-crossing us. If everything checks out, I'll send for you and the kid. If not, well, that's another story.
Woman: Ciara! No! No! No! Oh, my God, Ciara! Oh, baby! Oh, baby, no. No. No. Baby, no! Oh, God, no, baby! Ciara!
Dean: Is something wrong, commissioner?
Bo: Oh, God, Ciara... no...no...
Hope: Ciara, baby, where are you?
Dean: Problem, sir?
Bo: I can't reach my wife. She must have turned off her cell.
Justin: What's going on?
Bo: She can't deliver that ransom money.
Bo: I gotta stop her.
Justin: I'll go with you.
Bo: No, you stay put. I'll handle it.
Stefano: It never ends, does it?
E.J.: This could seriously set back some of our plans.
Stefano: In the blink of an eye.
E.J.: Well, I guess there's only one way to handle this.
Arianna: So this clinic mostly dealt with pregnant women?
Rafe: Right, but right now it's shut down.
Arianna: Then why is the web site so active?
Rafe: Oh, it's kept alive by former staff members and patients, you know, talking about their births, the care they got. Just keeping the connection alive.
Arianna: Okay. And how'd you gain access to this?
Rafe: Posed as a disgruntled former patient of Bakerís.
Arianna: How are you disgruntled, exactly?
Rafe: Well, I claimed that my child had a medical condition, and I needed some information about the birth. Which really isn't that far from the truth.
Arianna: And this person who replied, you're actually gonna talk to him, or her?
Rafe: That's right. They've agreed to meet me within the hour. Let's hope they have some answers that I need.
Arianna: Good luck, Rafe. I hope you find what you need.
Nicole: Answer me, damn it.
Dr. Baker: [Chuckles] Whoa. Nicole, you are one stressed out woman these days.
Nicole: Only when you turn up in my life.
Dr. Baker: Well, now you've hurt my feelings.
Nicole: You listen to me, you son of a bitch. You are not gonna harass me anymore.
Dr. Baker: That's a little bit harsh, don't you think? I was merely keeping in touch.
Nicole: Well, now you're gonna stay out of touch.
Dr. Baker: Well, not totally. I mean, I will want to see how Samiís beautiful daughter is, you know, once in a while. Would you do me a favor? Would you email me some pictures when you get a chance?
Nicole: She is my daughter, Baker. Mine.
Dr. Baker: Oh, sorry. Sorry. Slip of the tongue. Your beautiful daughter and her pictures.
Nicole: Damn, you, Dick. I gave you what you wanted, and you swore--
Dr. Baker: [Laughter] Nicole, Nicole, I know, I know, I know. Just playing with you. Now that I've got the money, my lips are completely sealed about your dastardly deeds.
Nicole: Well, I will try and take you at your word... and trust that this enormous amount of money that I've given you, you will-- you will now go away for good.
Dr. Baker: Nicole, have a piŮa colada. Or maybe four or five. It'll help soothe your nerves.
Nicole: Disgusting jerk. Hey, cookie. Hey...ah... oh, my goodness, there's my beautiful girl. Want to come see mommy? Yeah. Yeah. Ooh...hey, listen, now that Mommy paid off Dr. Baker, he'll disappear from our lives, right? Right? Of course he will. Of course he will. So now... you are truly mine. Yes, you are.
Victor: What's the latest?
Justin: Okay, Hope went to the drop-off location. And then Bo just took off after her. Said she couldn't deliver the money. He had to stop her.
Victor: Why? Why would he do that?
Justin: I'm not sure. But from the look on his face, it was as if he suddenly discovered some new information.
Victor: What information?
Justin: I don't know. He raced out of here before I could ask him.
Victor: Damn. Isn't it enough of a nightmare that Ciara's missing? He has to compound things by refusing to pay the ransom. How's he ever gonna forgive himself if he screws this up?
Bo: Hope, stop. Hope! Hey.
Hope: What are you doing here? Get out of here. You're gonna ruin everything.
Bo: Hope, shh! Quiet, quiet, quiet! You can't pay the ransom. You canít. If you do, Ciara will die.
Philip: No, let me. Okay, look, this is why Melanie is here. I mean, after all that stuff that went on with me and my dad-- my breaking from Titan, that whole mess. Anyway, you can imagine the stress I was under, and how upset I was at having to make a decision like that. We ran into each other, and she just...listened. You know? I was very upset. I just--I just needed to vent to someone, you know?
Melanie: Yeah. It was one of those right place, right time kind of things.
Stephanie: And why are you here now? Where did you go after you saw Melanie?
Philip: Huh? After?
Stephanie: Yeah, I tried calling you, like, a thousand times to tell you about Ciara, but your phone was off. Why, where were you all night?
Melanie: He was with me. We spent the night together.
Rafe: Heh heh. Well, I finally caught a break. Utility company forgot to turn the juice off. Yes. Why not? Oh, yeah. All right, baby, show me what you got. Tell me you hold the key to the connection between Dr. Richard Baker and Nicole DiMera.
E.J.: Okay, it's all set. We have a meeting later today at the pier.
Stefano: I don't like it.
E.J.: What would you propose that I do, send them a bloody newsletter? We don't have an alternative.
Stefano: What if it's an ambush?
E.J.: I don't think they're going to be that reckless. But we can take precautions. Hi.
Nicole: Hi. Grandpa, Daddy. I'm sorry, are we interrupting?
E.J.: Father, would you mind if I--
Stefano: No, fine, fine. Just please don't be long.
Nicole: Uh...EJ... what's going on? Tell me.
E.J.: I have some-- some bad news. Ciara's been kidnapped.
Victor: Oh, God.
Justin: Did you reach Bo? Vic, what happened?
Victor: Listen, I can't talk now. There's something I have to do, and it can't wait.
Justin: Can I help?
Victor: Not with this. It's one more thing I have to check to make sure that her being taken didn't have anything to do with her being a Kiriakis. And I have to do it alone.
Hope: What? What are you talking about? What changed? Did you find something out? What? Tell me.
Bo: No, it's just this gut feeling I have. I can't shake it. All my training is telling me--
Hope: No, you're lying to me. Training has nothing to do with this.
Bo: Don't argue with me. We have to get out of here!
Hope: You had a vision, didn't you? Tell me what you saw, Brady.
Bo: At the drop-off point, when Ciara saw you, she-- she broke away from the kidnappers and she ran toward you.
Hope: And what? They killed her?
Dean: Commissioner, what happened? They just told me that the ransom drop was aborted.
Bo: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We gotta get back to the station.
Dean: What? Why?
Bo: The deal is off. These kidnappers are not getting a dime.
Dean: Commissioner, these people are not the--
Bo: Don't argue with me! We gotta go. Come on.
Dean: All right. I'll, uh-- I'll stick around and see if the kidnappers actually showed up. Maybe they, uh, left something behind. I'll catch up with you later.
Bo: All right, whatever. Go. Hope, listen to me. We're doing the right thing here. The only thing.
Stephanie: You and Melanie spent the night together?
Philip: Hey, look, now is not the time to discuss this, okay? Ciara...that's our priority.
Stephanie: You're right, she is.
Melanie: I'm sorry, I guess I'm a little lost here. Ciara? Bo and Hope's daughter?
Stephanie: She was kidnapped.
Melanie: What? Oh, my God, I'm so sorry.
Philip: I should call my father, see if I can help him out with anything.
Stephanie: Yeah, I need to get in touch with my family too.
Melanie: If there's anything I can do to help, just, um, let me know.
Melanie: I'll talk to you later.
Philip: Yeah. Yeah, I'll talk to you later.
Stephanie: I'll try to get in touch with my family here. It's horrible, isn't it? I can't even imagine what Bo and Hope must be going through. You know what, I'm sorry, I'm not gonna be able to let this go. I know this is horrible timing, but I need to know what happened between you and Melanie last night.
Rafe: Well, the clinic's database is still in order. That's a good sign. Password to access-- damn it. How 'bout just a clue here... anything?
Dr. Baker: Hey, Walt, it's Dick Baker. How's my favorite bookie? Yeah, good, good. Of course I want to lay a bet down. Why else would I be calling you?
Nicole: God in heaven, when did this happen?
E.J.: Uh, last night, I think.
Nicole: She's such a sweet little girl. Where was she? Did someone break into their house?
E.J.: I don't know all the details. I have to say, though, as much as there's no love lost between our family and theirs, my heart does go out to them.
Nicole: They must be in agony.
E.J.: Yeah. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing worse than... a child being taken away from its parents.
Dean: Damn it!
Woman: I don't get it, man.
Dean: One minute the ransom plan is set and moving forward, the next thing I know, Commissioner Brady freaks out and tells his wife that the deal is off.
Woman: What do you think changed his mind?
Dean: How the hell am I supposed to know? I'm gonna go back to the station and try to figure it out. If I know that pushy Hope Brady, she will not stop until she gets her way. Anything to save that little girl. Right?
Woman: And what if she doesn't get her way? What happens then?
Justin: What happened? You called off the ransom exchange.
Hope: Just pray to God those bastards don't hurt our daughter. Pray to God they call again.
Bo: They will. We'll get her back.
Hope: How? They want the money. What else would motivate them to give her back to us?
Justin: Bo, I know you have your reasons, and if you don't want to explain--
Bo: No, I'll explain why I didn't go through with this ransom. Because the act of paying them, no matter when or where... we wouldn't get her back, ever.
Justin: You're saying...
Hope: He's saying they'd kill her.
Justin: But how could you know that?
Philip: Steph, look--
Stephanie: You know what, I am way out of line. Whatever is going on with you and Melanie, that is your business. I have no right to be...
Philip: To be...
Philip: Are you?
Stephanie: Yes. Is that surprising?
Philip: I don't know, I mean, you broke up with me. Said you never wanted to speak to me again.
Stephanie: I know what I did, and I know what I said, okay? And you know that the only reason why I broke up with you is because you were committed to being a Kiriakis.
Stephanie: And living that life. But now-- I mean, the fact that you're leaving your family, that just proves that you really are the hero that once saved my life, and the man that I fell in love with.
Philip: You know why I did this, don't you? It's because you've always believed in me. You always thought I could be a better man. I mean, it took a while for that to sink in, but when it finally did... you left me.
Stephanie: Well, your timing was a bit off.
Philip: Yeah. So what are you saying? I mean, do we...have another chance? Will you give me another chance?
Stephanie: I think whatever happens between us now, Philip, depends on what happened last night between you and Melanie.
Woman: Take whatever you want, anything. Please, just don't hurt me.
Rafe: No, no, no, I'm not gonna hurt you. I just came here to meet someone.
Woman: Wait, you're the one who was asking about dr. Baker?
Rafe: You're the one who responded, right? You have some information about dr. Baker to tell me?
Woman: I thought you were one of the women who gave birth here... who was desperate for information because she was having a problem with her baby. I'm--I'm not sure I should be saying anything.
Nicole: A child taken from a parent. What could be more tragic? Unless that child is better off with someone else.
E.J.: Um, what do you mean "unless that child was better off with someone else"?
Nicole: I know, I'm sorry. I wasn't talking about Ciara. I--I was speaking in generalities. I'm sure Bo and Hope are wonderful parents.
E.J.: I'm sure they are too. Actually, it's strange. As much as we haven't always seen eye to eye, I do rather feel I can relate to what they're going through.
E.J.: Yes. Being denied your own child... her death... it's tantamount to having her taken from you.
Nicole: It was. Yes.
E.J.: I'm so happy I have you, Sydney. Because without the two of you, my life would be meaningless.
Nicole: I feel the same way.
Bo: This is my daughter's life we're talking about here, Justin. Paying that ransom wouldn't have gotten her back.
Justin: Bo, I'm not accusing you of anything. It's just, you said you know that Ciara would die if you gave--
Bo: You know what, don't question me about this! This is my child. And no, I don't know what to do right now. All I know is what not to do. That's all I can tell you.
Hope: You keep saying she's your daughter. She's my daughter too. She's our daughter.
Hope: Stop! Don't! Donít. Don't you dare try to placate me when our daughter's being held by criminals, and the one chance I may have had of getting her back was taken from me.
Bo: That's just the thing. You wouldn't have gotten her back. You-- she would have been lost to us forever. Don't you get that?
Hope: Don't you get that it's all in your head and may have no basis in reality? You've been wrong before. You're not infallible.
Bo: I never said I was. But for me to ignore what came to me--
Hope: Okay, fine. You felt like you couldn't ignore it, you didn't, you made the decision. And here we are, back to square one without our daughter. So now what? What do we do? You got a plan? Anything? Aside from what not to do?
Bo: I'm doing the best I can right now.
Hope: If the kidnappers call again, and the drop-off point is different, can I pay them the ransom then?
Bo: The drop-off point is irrelevant.
Hope: Oh, God.
Bo: It's about the ransom. We're not giving them any money. Ever.
Melanie: Hi. Hi.
Melanie: Uh, you gonna ask me what's new in my life?
Arianna: Um, okay. What's up? What's new. Come on, dish it.
Melanie: Okay, um, I ran into Philip Kiriakis, and he was very upset and needed a shoulder to cry on. So obviously, who am I to deny him that, you know? But after the crying on the shoulder and everything, we, um... we, uh...
Arianna: You, uh...
Melanie: Moved on to--to other things.
Arianna: Okay, wait, you're telling me you and him--you got--hmm?
Melanie: Uh, yes. Yes, we did. Oh, but... don't go around broadcasting it. You know, we're very private people.
Melanie: I mean, I'm not, obviously, but Philip is. You know how guys get. I just had to tell somebody because this is the happiest I've been in my entire life.
Arianna: Well, then, you and Philip are together now, then, right?
Melanie: Uh...not yet. Not yet, not exac--not yet. He has a family crisis right now. And, actually, he's talking to his ex-fiancťe. She's probably begging for him to take her back.
Melanie: Yeah, but I'm not worried about it. See, I think when Stephanie finds out that Philip and I slept together, she will want nothing to do with him.
Stephanie: Well, Melanie said that you spent the night together.
Philip: Yeah, we did. I mean, talking, venting. I was the one who was venting about my father, about titan. About seeing you and Nathan together.
Stephanie: You told her about that?
Philip: Yeah. But Melanie knows how much I love you. She knows that that just doesn't go away. She's trying to be a better person these days, wouldn't you say?
Stephanie: I guess.
Philip: Anyway, she was a good listener. You saw how she left us alone just now. She understands that what you and I have, that doesn't go away. Look, I love you so much. I think about you every second of every day since we broke up. I just want to get back together. Is that a possibility?
Dr. Baker: Yeah, yeah, I heard you. I heard you. Bird in the hand lost. I got it, I know. I got it. I owe you. Listen, you'll get your money, all right? All of it.
Bo: Hope, come here. Hope. Hope! You gotta trust me on this. I know it's difficult, but you gotta trust me.
Hope: Let me tell you what I know. The kidnappers are furious right now. And if they ever do call, and we refuse to deal with them again and not give them what they want, they're gonna kill our daughter! Do you get that? Can you feel that in your gut, Brady? Can you feel it?
Justin: Bo, I think Hope's right.
Hope: So do I.
Justin: Look, we have to play the kidnappers' game. It's--otherwise it's too risky. I mean, with all due respect to your instincts.
Bo: This isn't about instincts! Ciara's life will be in danger if we pay the ransom. She knows one of these guys. He's her friend from the park who gave her a lollipop. She'll recognize him. She'll be able to describe him. So with that logic, she's only safe if we don't pay them. Can't you see that? If they get the money, they can't afford to let her go.
Dean: Commissioner Brady, you need to see this.
Bo: What is it? Is it about Ciara?
Dean: Possibly, yes.
Stephanie: I wish I was one of those people who always knew what they wanted and never vacillate.
Philip: Well, I wouldn't want you to be that way. I like you just the way you are.
Stephanie: Look, because of what's going on with Ciara, I just don't think it should be about us right now.
Philip: You're right. You're right, until Ciara's back...that's what matters. So I will not pressure you. I'll be cool.
Stephanie: Don't be too cool.
Philip: What I meant to say was is that I'm here for you. What?
Stephanie: I just can't help but wonder if this whole fiasco with Ciara is gonna pull you back.
Philip: Pull me back to what?
Stephanie: Into the Kiriakis fold.
Philip: Hey, look, obviously some things are gonna be unavoidable. But I have to be there for my father and my family. Okay, but once we get Ciara back, this part of my life is over.
Stephanie: Yeah, I-- I hope that the vow you made to leave your family and become a better person-- I hope you stick with it. And I hope you do it for yourself, and not just for me or to appease me.
Philip: I meant what I said. This part of my life is over. I want to be with you.
Stephanie: You know what, I was looking-- can I go check upstairs in your bedroom for a book that I think I left here?
Philip: Uh, yeah.
Stephanie: I'm gonna go check really quick.
Philip: I didn't see it, but yeah.
Rafe: I never said that I was a woman. See, I'm here on behalf of a former patient. A friend. A woman, obviously.
Woman: And what's the problem with this female friend?
Rafe: Well, the problem is that Dr. Baker just disappeared. He vanished, and she needs to speak to him urgently.
Woman: That's too bad.
Rafe: Hold on. Come on, you must have some idea where he is.
Woman: Not a clue. And to be honest, I don't want to know.
Melanie: Hey, Henderson let me in. I hope that's okay.
Philip: Melanie, can we do this another time?
Melanie: I don't see Stephanie. Does that mean you told her about us?
Philip: [Clears throat]
Philip: Look, Melanie, the last thing I want to do is hurt you, but you gotta know. Stephanie and I, we, uh, might have a chance of getting back together.
Victor: What the hell is this about?
E.J.: Is there any news on Ciara Brady?
Victor: No, not unless you two know something.
Stefano: We donít. That's why we called this little meeting.
E.J.: Look, we just wanted you to know that we had absolutely nothing to do with that little girl being taken.
Bo: What is it?
Dean: It's a list of abductions that follow the same pattern of Ciara's. I did some research earlier, sir. It's possible that the same kidnapper we're dealing with now was involved in these parallel cases. And it looks as though that in each case, the perpetrator was only after the money.
Hope: And the child was returned once the money was received.
Hope: Then it's settled. We get another call, we go through with it. We give the kidnappers exactly what they want, and we get our daughter back.
Melanie: So then last night meant nothing to you.
Philip: I did not say that.
Melanie: Then what are you saying?
Philip: [Quietly] That what happened between us last night cannot happen again.
Melanie: Uh...but you said--
Philip: Look, I said things, okay? In the heat of the moment--
Melanie: In the heat--
Philip: Look, I meant what I said.
Melanie: This--this is not happening.
Philip: I am really--
Melanie: No, you're not! Why would you be sorry? You got everything you wanted. You got your night with me. You have your precious Stephanie back. It seems to me like you're coming out of this a real winner.
Philip: It's not like that.
Melanie: It's not--it's not-- it's not like that. Do you, Philip-- do you remember what you said to me? Do--do you remember how you touched me?
Philip: You're angry with me. I understand that. But for all of our sakes, please do not tell Stephanie about this. Please. It will not gain anything.
Melanie: Really? I respectfully disagree. See, I think that if I tell Stephanie, she might come to her senses and tell you to go to hell.
Philip: Melanie, please.
Melanie: No. I'm not backing you up this time.
Victor: So you know nothing about Ciara's abduction?
E.J.: That's what I just said.
Victor: Why should I believe you, EJ? Because you swear up and down?
Stefano: Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa. My son's word is not good enough?
Victor: Shocking, isn't it, that I wouldn't take a DiMera at his word.
E.J.: In case you've forgotten, we have a truce.
Victor: No, I haven't forgotten. But I'd be willing to bet my ass that you have. You see, I think that if you had any opportunity to make the family suffer, you'd say to hell with the truce and never look back.
E.J.: Just listen to me. Now, we do a lot of bad things in this world, all of us. But I can look every man I ever hurt in the eye, and I can tell him why. What we do not do is harm children. If anybody ever took a child from me, I would make sure that that person and anybody who supported him died a slow and painful death.
Nicole: Hey, Arianna.
Arianna: Can I get you something?
Nicole: Uh, sure. Uh, just a coffee, please. Uh, Sami told me about her and Rafe. I'm sorry.
Arianna: Are you?
Well, yeah, of course I am. I mean, I know how much Sami and Rafe loved each other.
Nicole: And how is that any of your business? You and Rafe aren't exactly friends. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Arianna: What--what's going on? What did he say about me?
Rafe: Why don't you want to talk to Dr. Baker, huh? Did you two have some sort of falling out?
Woman: [Chuckles] You could say that. I was the nurse who worked most closely with him.
Rafe: And you two didn't get along?
Woman: That's one way of phrasing it.
Rafe: What's another? It's okay. You can talk to me. That's why you agreed to come here, right? So you can clear your conscience?
Woman: Something happened here at the clinic. It's something terrible.
[Cell phone ringing]
Bo: Dean! Speakerphone.
Hope: Detective Brady.
Woman: [Distorted voice] Hello, Mommy. Your little girl is disappointed. She waited and waited, but you never showed. Poor Ciara can't stop crying now. Don't tell me you're backing out of our agreement.
Hope: No. No, of course not. Just a slight mix-up. It won't happen again.
Woman: So what do we do now?
Hope: I'll come back to the drop-off point alone, wherever, whenever you want.
Hope: No, Bo!
Bo: No. No good. You listen to me. I'm gonna tell you how this is gonna go down.
Bo: I'm gonna take this $5 million that's sitting in front of me, and I'm gonna pay off every snitch, every street rat that I can find. There will be no place for you to hide. Do you hear me? I will hunt you down if it takes the rest of my life, and I will make you suffer for the rest of your short, miserable lives. Do you hear me?
Nicole: Your brother is up to something. I know it.
Rafe: So, Nicole... gotcha.
Woman: It's time we ditch the kid and get the hell out of here.
Bo: So you think I'm wrong too.
Justin: I think you're dead wrong.
