Nicole: Hi, Sami, um... listen, I just wanted to thank you for not saying anything to-- oh. What's wrong? What's going on?
Sami: Rafe, uh, left. I mean, he really left, like... like I think he's not coming back.
E.J.: Nicole, something has been bothering you a great deal, and I would like to find out what it is, thank you. Spying on me, Mr. Hernandez?
Rafe: [Chuckles] Why, are you hiding something?
Stefano: You are a DiMera through and through, you know that? Yeah. You're also a Brady, but we don't want to tell anybody about that, do we? Do we, sweetheart, huh? No, no, no. Especially Samantha, that wretched mother of yours. Here. Here, come on.
Sami: Uh, uh-- sorry, sorry.
Nicole: Sami, what happened? Why did Rafe leave?
Sami: We had a fight. It's over.
Nicole: What was the fight about?
Sami: [Scoffs] Like you don't know.
Nicole: Sami, why would I know what your fight with Rafe was about?
Sami: 'Cause you called it from the beginning. You said not to trust him.
Nicole: Okay, um, what did he say?
Sami: He lied to me. He lied to me about something really important.
Nicole: What's this?
Sami: Just read it.
Nicole: Oh, my God. This says that he--
Sami: Committed murder. Killed his fiancée.
Nicole: And you believe it?
E.J.: Well, hiding things is your specialty, isn't it, Mr. Hernandez? Yours and Samantha's.
Rafe: Oh, we're not gonna do this again, are we?
E.J.: So what if you lie and cheat your way through life? As long as you're together. Right? True love conquers all, aye? That is what you believe, isn't it? You're gonna be together with Samantha forever? Yeah. Damn the rest of the world, eh?
Rafe: No. No, not "Damn the rest of the world." Just you.
Chad: [Clears throat] Hey, guys, what's going on?
Chad: Can you believe it? Summer's almost over. Less than a month, we'll be back at school.
Mia: Hey, uh, are you--are you working tomorrow? 'Cause I wasn't supposed to, but then Leah quit.
Chad: Oh, I got it off. Evan's been really cool about my schedule. I've been trying to cut back a little, you know, because of cross country. Your boy Horton here's going after the team. So what's your best time in the two-mile?
Will: What's it to you?
Chad: Oh, take it easy, bro. Just, uh, sizing up the competition.
Will: Yeah, well, you'd better watch out. 'Cause we're gonna kick some Salem West butt this year.
Chad: Right on, dude. We are gonna crush them.
Will: What do you mean, "we"?
Chad: Oh, so... you didn't tell him?
Will: Tell me what?
Harold: The Carvers are here, sir.
Stefano: Oh, thank you, Harold. Ah!
Lexie: Hi, father.
Stefano: At long last. [Laughs] Here, sweetheart, come to-- my Theodore, huh, huh? You have no idea how I was looking forward to this, you know? Nona has missed you very much, sweetheart.
Lexie: Aw. Sorry we couldn't make it to the party yesterday. I had to work and Abe was stuck in meetings all day.
Stefano: Oh, that's all right. Because Sydney is in her playpen just waiting to see her favorite cousin, huh? Look, there you are. Heh, heh, heh.
Lexie: Hi, Sydney. Oh, how beautiful. Oh, isn't she adorable, Theo?
Abe: Here you go.
Stefano: Oh, thank you.
Abe: Theo picked it out.
Stefano: Well, I will make sure that Elvis and Nicole get it.
Lexie: Theo. This is your cousin, Sydney. Say hi to Sydney.
Lexie: Uh, honey, those belong to Sydney.
Theo: I want Charlie.
Stefano: Her little stuffed dog?
Theo: Charlie's gone, gone!
Lexie: No, honey, honey, it's okay, all right? It's okay.
Abe: Charlie isn't gone, Theo, we'll find him.
Lexie: Oh, you think maybe we left him in the car?
Abe: Yeah, we could have dropped him on the way in. Hey. Let's go. Let's go outside, see if it's outside, okay? Come on, buddy, let's go.
Lexie: [Sighs] I pray that Charlie is out there.
Stefano: Well, I hope so too, because I know how attached he is to that little stuffed dog.
Lexie: Yes, yes, he is. And, uh, he, uh... has trouble verbalizing his thoughts, you know, especially when he's stressed and upset. As if you hadn't noticed.
Stefano: Well, yes, of course I have. I mean, but who doesn't, huh? Who doesn't have trouble when there's stress to try to, you know, express themselves, time and time again?
Lexie: Father, he's autistic. Okay? It's okay to say the word.
Stefano: I'm not trying not to say the word, Alexandra. It's just that I only see him as a beautiful Theodore. Alexandra, I love that little boy with all my heart. You know, and if I just see him a little upset, it just, I can't-- it breaks my heart, what can I say?
Lexie: It's okay. It's okay, I know. I know it does. You know what? You are overly protective. Especially with your grandchildren. You know, are they happy, are they safe, are they eating right? Worry, worry, worry, that's all you do.
Stefano: Yes. That's true. [Sighs] You have no idea how much.
Arianna: Everything okay?
Rafe: You got a sec?
Arianna: I always have time for you. What's up?
Rafe: I just came to say good-bye.
Rafe: I'm leaving Salem.
Sami: I don't know, why would she lie? I met her. I saw the pain in Meredith's eyes. And it has been two years, and she is clearly not over her sister's death. "My sister knew something about Rafe, the secret that no one else knew. Something that would destroy his career with the FBI. And on their wedding day, Emily and Rafe had an argument. They left the house together right before the ceremony. He was driving. There was an 'accident.' She was killed and he survived."
Nicole: Did you ask Rafe about this?
Sami: Of course I did. He wouldn't answer any of my questions.
Nicole: Well, do you really think that Rafe killed his fiancée?
Sami: What am I supposed to think?
Nicole: I don't know. There's gotta be something more to it, something you're missing.
Sami: Like what?
Lexie: E.J., hi, hi, hi. Abe and I stopped by to wish Sydney a happy half-year birthday.
E.J.: I know, I just saw them. You're leaving?
Lexie: Yeah. Theo misplaced his favorite toy.
E.J.: Oh, say no more.
E.J.: What does it look like?
Lexie: Uh, a stuffed dog about this big.
E.J.: Okay, well if we see anything, we'll let you know immediately.
Lexie: Please, please, please! Anyway. Good to see you.
E.J.: It's nice to see you too, bye-bye.
Stefano: All right, come back soon, all right? And good luck with finding Charlie.
Lexie: Thank you. And tell Nicole we're sorry we missed her.
Stefano: I will. Ciao.
Stefano: [Sighs] Okay.
E.J.: Is Nicole not here yet?
Stefano: No, I have not seen her, no.
E.J.: Where the devil can she be? I've called her several times on her cell phone, she doesn't seem to pick up, that's no big surprise.
Stefano: I'm sure she's gonna be back soon. What do you say we open Sydney's gift, huh?
E.J.: I don't understand. What could be more important than spending time with her husband and her daughter?
Arianna: Okay, leaving Salem. What, did you get a job somewhere else?
Rafe: No. It's nothing to do with work. Gotta get out of here, clear my head.
Arianna: Oh, so it's just temporary then.
Rafe: I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not.
Arianna: Okay, is Sami going with you? No. All right. I don't understand 'cause--
Rafe: She's got responsibilities. Her family, kids.
Arianna: Wow, she must be pretty upset.
Rafe: I haven't told her yet.
Arianna: Oh, wait. I get it. You're leaving town because of Sami. Aren't you?
Nicole: Well, there could be any number of reasons Rafe won't answer your questions.
Sami: Name one.
Nicole: [Sighs] Well, maybe this is difficult for him to talk about.
Sami: [Snorts] That's exactly what he said.
Nicole: Well, it's valid, isn't it?
Sami: Yeah. Oh, yeah, sure. It's totally valid. He'd rather break up with me instead of talk about something that hurts him.
Nicole: Okay, I guess it isn't.
Sami: No, there is something else going on.
Nicole: But Sami, until you know the truth, the absolute truth, don't you think you should give Rafe the benefit of the doubt?
Sami: This is really weird.
Sami: You. This. You defending Rafe.
Nicole: No, I'm not.
Sami: Oh, my God, you're totally defending him. And I just figured out why.
Chad: Yeah, so my parents just bought a new house over on McClain, which means I had to transfer schools. We're gonna be classmates. Teammates, hey, how about that?
Will: How about that.
Chad: It's weird. You didn't say anything.
Will: Oh, she did, actually.
Chad: Oh, yeah?
Will: Yeah, oh-- but I forgot. Sorry, dude. You're not on my radar.
Chad: Yeah. Right.
Mia: What, you think we just sit around talking about you all day? [Chuckles] Get over yourself, babe.
Will: Guess we'll see you at school, man.
Mia: Yeah, let's go.
Will: Oh, Peterson. One more thing. If any of the seniors try to sell you an elevator pass, don't go for it.
Chad: I'm sorry, what?
Will: No elevators. Later.
Kinsey: That was cold.
Chad: Guy's a real jerk.
Kinsey: I thought we were supposed to be splitting those two up.
Chad: Oh, like you have room to talk.
Kinsey: What did I do?
Chad: No, it's what you didn't do. What happened to heating things up with Horton, huh?
Kinsey: It's not my fault he's into charity cases.
Chad: You're a jerk too. You know that?
Kinsey: Fine. Mia is an amazing, wonderful person. Happy now?
Chad: Look, we've gotta figure out a better strategy.
Kinsey: Well, it's gonna be a lot harder than we thought, obviously.
Chad: You're not flaking on me, are you?
Kinsey: Of course not. It's just, Will and Mia... seem pretty tight.
Chad: Or not.
Arianna: Did you and Sami get into a fight? Is that it?
Rafe: I really don't want to get into that right now.
Arianna: Oh, okay. So you're just gonna drop this bomb on me that you're leaving maybe for good. I'm just supposed to let you go.
Rafe: Why do you care anyway? It's not you ever liked Sami. I thought you'd be happy.
[Cell phone rings]
Rafe: [Sighs] It's my boss. Better tell him my plans. Hey. Yeah.
Arianna: Pete, I'm taking my break.
Nicole: Sami, I can explain.
Sami: No, you don't have to, I get it. You're defending Rafe because you chose to look the other way with E.J.
Nicole: What do you mean, I looked the other way?
Sami: We both know that E.J. tried to have Philip killed, and that he had Stephanie kidnapped.
Nicole: Uh, okay, hold on a second. We're--this is not about E.J. and I love my husband unconditionally.
Sami: Nicole, I know. That's what I'm trying to say. I--I'm not trying to put you on the defensive. You're one of the few people I can actually count on lately. I mean, you really went out on a limb for me when you let me see Johnny even though E.J. didn't want me to. And, um, and then you came and told me about Grace's headstone. I really appreciate that. I appreciate all of it. But I'm not you. I mean, I can turn a blind eye to a lot of things, and I know I should. But...But I have to draw a line somewhere, and... and that's why I didn't tell E.J. about Grace. Though I guess it doesn't matter now anyway, does it? 'Cause, um... 'cause Grace is gone and, uh... and Rafe's gone too. I'm just paying for all the mistakes I've made in my life right now. I mean, this is just because of everything I have done--
Nicole: No, no, no, Sami. That is not how it works.
Sami: It's exactly how it works. I am gonna pay for all the horrible things I have done for the rest of my life and I deserve it.
Nicole: No, no, no, this is not your fault, Sami. None of this is.
Stefano: [Sighs] I am aware that you and Nicole were having words. But I heard your raised voices, what?
E.J.: [Chuckles] Yeah. Put a little glass up to the wall, did we?
Stefano: You know damn well I'll give you and your wife as much privacy as possible.
E.J.: Yeah. I'm sure.
Stefano: All right, never mind, don't try to be sarcastic or anything. Just tell me what is wrong.
E.J.: It's the secrecy. Or to be more precise, it's the perceived secrecy. I just can't help feel that Nicole is keeping something from me. That and...
Stefano: All right, go on.
E.J.: I bumped into that Hernandez guy today.
Stefano: Ah, Samantha's beau. Well, how did he seem?
E.J.: You know, his usual charming self, I suppose.
Stefano: Ah, yes, I heard about you two guys almost coming to blows because of Grace's tombstone.
E.J.: We did, but I met him this morning and the guy backed off completely.
Stefano: Did he?
E.J.: Yeah. Completely.
Stefano: That's odd.
E.J.: It is odd, isn't it?
E.J.: He seemed a little strange, a little out of sorts, distracted.
E.J.: I think somebody needs a nap.
E.J.: Ooh, come on.
Stefano: You get to have a nice little rest, my principessa.
E.J.: Come on, sweetheart.
Stefano: Ah, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Ah... yes, you're playing right into my hands, Senor Hernandez. [Sinister laughter]
Rafe: Okay, thanks. All right, where did you go?
Abe: Over here. That was our table.
Lexie: Yeah, I know, it's not here.
Rafe: Hey, guys.
Lexie: Oh. Rafe, um, did you happen to see a little stuffed dog about this big? We were sitting right here.
Abe: Your sister waited on us.
Rafe: Uh, no.
Lexie: Is she still here, your sister?
Rafe: I don't know, I think she's on her break right now, actually.
Lexie: Oh, goodness, it's not here. Where could it be?
Rafe: Did you retrace your steps?
Lexie: Yeah, um, well we came here first and, um, then we went to my father's house to drop off Sydney's present. Honey, you think maybe we didn't look thoroughly enough when we were there?
Abe: You want me to call?
Lexie: Would you, please?
Lexie: Okay, thanks.
Abe: Excuse me.
Rafe: You had to drop off a present for Sydney, huh?
Lexie: Yeah, yesterday was her half-year birthday.
Rafe: Yeah, right.
Lexie: Uh, we couldn't make it to the party, so. Hmm.
Rafe: Six months old, same as Grace would have been.
Lexie: Oh, Rafe. I am so sorry.
Rafe: So how is Nicole? Is she in good spirits?
Lexie: Uh, I believe, no, she wasn't there. Why did you ask?
Rafe: Just wondering. Last few times I've seen her, she's been really sad about, about Grace.
Lexie: Has she?
Rafe: Yeah. Definitely. Grace's death hit her really hard, for some reason.
Sami: It's called karma. I am paying for every bad thing I've ever done in my life, and I deserve it.
Nicole: No, no, Sami. You didn't do anything wrong. You don't deserve this and it is time you understood that.
[Knocking on door]
Arianna: Sami, we need-- oh, you have company.
Sami: Yeah, yeah, uh, you remember Nicole, right? Come in.
Nicole: I guess we'll continue this later, huh?
Sami: Yeah, um... Nicole, thanks again for everything.
Nicole: Nice to see you, Arianna. Bye, Sami.
Sami: Look, if you're looking for Rafe, he's not--
Arianna: I just saw him. I came to talk to you. I want to know what you did to my brother.
Mia: You're mad, aren't you?
Will: For the millionth time, no. It's okay.
Mia: No. It's not okay. I put you in this weird position. I'm really sorry.
Will: Now look, you have nothing to be sorry about. It's just...
Will: I--I don't know why you didn't tell me.
Mia: I already explained that I forgot. It just went right out of my head. What?
Will: I don't know. I mean, Chad coming to Salem high school?
Will: That doesn't seem like something you just forget. I think there's a reason you didn't want to tell me.
Mia: You're right. There is.
Stefano: Ah, so she finally decided to grace us with her presence, huh?
Nicole: Where's E.J.?
Stefano: He took the baby out for a little nap just a little while ago. I--I believe he's in his office.
Nicole: Aww. Is that for Sydney?
Stefano: Yes. Six-month birthday gift. Alexandra and Abraham left it off.
Nicole: That's so sweet. I'm sorry I missed them.
Stefano: Yes, yes. We're all very, very unhappy. We were wondering where you disappeared to.
Nicole: [Sighs] I was with Sami. She's a mess, thanks to you. Heartbroken, blubbering red-faced mess.
Stefano: [Groans] What an image.
Nicole: She, uh, got a letter from Rafe's late fiancée's sister.
Stefano: A letter?
Nicole: She accused Rafe of killing that woman.
Stefano: Mm mm mm mm. [Chuckles] Sometimes the truth is a lot stranger than fiction.
Nicole: If it is true.
Stefano: Why so skeptical?
Nicole: Well, you know, I don't know Rafe very well, obviously. But I--I just don't think he's capable of murder.
Stefano: But Samantha believes it. No? So we are practically to our goal, which is to get Rafael out of town without discovering that you have stolen her baby. And you, my dear, don't have very much more to worry about.
Rafe: This guy right here is telling me his, uh, best friend's Theo carver.
[Laughs] Oh, Rafe, thank you so much. Oh, where was he?
Rafe: On top of the chairs over there.
Lexie: Oh, those chairs. Theo, honey, honey. Say thank you to Rafe.
Abe: Yeah, that was pretty good piece of detective work there, Hernandez.
Rafe: Yeah, well, I'm a little rusty, but thank you.
Lexie: Don't let me forget to call my father. He was really worried about Theo.
Abe: Well, Theo seems to be fine right now, aren't you, big guy? Charlie just wanted to have a little adventure. [Laughs]
Lexie: Yeah, um, Rafe. Listen, I'm--I'm really, uh, sorry if I seemed a bit intense before.
Lexie: Yeah, I know, sorry.
Rafe: That's okay. Your son was upset, you wanted to make him happy, that's all.
Lexie: Yeah. We just want him to be happy and safe. That's all we want.
Rafe: Well, if you'll excuse me, there's something I've got to take care of. See ya.
Lexie: Uh-- Oh.
Sami: What are you talking about? I didn't do anything to Rafe.
Arianna: Oh, then why did Rafe decide to leave town then?
Arianna: Yeah. That's right, he just told me, okay? He said it had nothing to do with work, so I'm guessing it has something to do with you.
Sami: Is that what he said?
Arianna: I don't know, he just said he was out of here, okay Sami? Maybe for good, and that you weren't coming with him.
Sami: But he didn't tell you why?
Arianna: It's obvious why.
Sami: Stop saying that, okay? I had nothing to do with it-- you want to be mad at someone? Be mad at Emily's sister. She's the one who-- she's the one who wrote this. Meredith Hudson wrote me a letter. Delivered under my door hours ago. Here. Read it.
Rafe: Sweet Grace. You'll always be a Brady to me. Grace Rafael Brady. Yesterday was your sixth-month birthday. Just like your sister Sydney.
Nicole: Oh, Grace. I would do anything to bring you back. Anything.
Rafe: You touched everyone, Grace. Everyone.
Stefano: You are an ingrate. You know that?
Nicole: Why? Because I don't like to see people suffer?
Stefano: You want Samantha and Rafael together, huh? You want to keep that idiot around to ruin your life? Because, you know, that can be worked out if you want.
Nicole: Damn it, Stefano, I don't want anyone's life ruined. Is that a crime in your book?
Stefano: Wow. [Chuckles] What do you know? Our Nicole is the new poster girl for kindness and compassion. Right, she wants to make sure even if her life is unhappy, she wants to make sure that no one else's life is compromised, of course, huh? What a woman.
Nicole: I'll be upstairs.
Stefano: Not until you express some gratitude, damn it. You know, you stand there and you pretend through some kind of nobility in all of this when the truth of the matter is that I have to clean up after all your disastrous switching of the babies. Where was your nobility then, Nicole, where was it, huh? Oh, great, yeah. Now the tears, huh?
Nicole: Yes, Stefano. Here come the tears. And you want to know why? Because unlike you, I don't enjoy hurting people. Okay, yes. Yes, I've been insensitive and cruel and selfish and I have made some horrible, unforgivable mistakes. But at least I regret them!
Stefano: You regret your horrible things, is that the idea? Do you want a little gold star, Nicole?
Nicole: I just want... I just don't want to cause any more pain.
Stefano: For Samantha or you? Because it's one or the other.
Nicole: Why does it have to be?
Stefano: Because of what you just admitted. You've done a very unforgivable thing. All right? You stole another woman's baby. And Samantha's about to lose her child and the man that she loves. Or you are. So which is it gonna be, Nicole?
E.J.: What are you two arguing about?
Mia: I didn't say anything about Chad because with everything going on with your dad and your step-mom, and, you know, losing baby Grace, it just, it seemed so not important. You're not mad, are you?
Will: No. Look, would you stop asking that?
Mia: You hate it though, don't you? That Chad's coming to Salem High.
Will: Yeah, of course I hate it. Come on, Mia. I mean, the guy has a thing for you.
Mia: Well, you have to believe me, okay? None of that matters now. Chad means nothing to me, I promise. That part of my life is over.
Kinsey: Okay, so this plan of yours is turning into a complete timesuck. I mean, you're not even on Mia's radar.
Chad: Uh, that can't be true. I mean, she was totally into me when we were at west.
Kinsey: Someone's on a head trip.
Chad: It's just weird, you know? Like, something must have happened.
Kinsey: Yeah. It's called drugs.
Chad: No, no. It's something else. Something more. And I'm gonna find out what.
Rafe: There's another reason I came here today, Grace. To say good-bye. I have to go away for a long, long while. I know I just got here. It's what I have to do. And as much as I want to tell your mother the truth, there's no way that I can.
Sami: So it's true?
Arianna: This makes it sound like-- like he killed her. Like Rafe killed Emily.
Sami: Answer the question.
Arianna: I've gotta go. I've gotta get to work.
Sami: Wait a second. You know something. What is it?
Arianna: This is between you and Rafe, Sami, okay? I've gotta go.
Sami: You're saying it's true.
Arianna: Please, I have to go.
E.J.: Nicole. Father.
Stefano: If you'll excuse me, I have some business to take care of.
E.J.: So what were you and my father arguing about? Nicole.
Nicole: Your father thought I was being insensitive.
E.J.: In what way?
Nicole: I just... want to have a normal happy life with my husband and my daughter. And it depresses me to talk about Grace and the tragedy of her death.
E.J.: Well, that is insensitive.
Nicole: Great. Now you're both upset with me.
E.J.: Would you like me to just forget about my daughter, just because it depresses you?
Nicole: No. No, E.J., I don't. I just meant that, you know, when it's Sydney's birthday or half birthday or whatever, I just... I just wish we could focus on her at least for that day.
I remember you two minutes ago, telling me how much you were grieving for Grace.
E.J.: Yes, I was. Sydney and Grace are sisters. They were born on the same day.
Nicole: Look E.J., I'm sorry. Your father reacted badly because he always thinks the worst of me and you know that. I just meant that... I want our daughter to be the focus of our lives. But that doesn't mean that we should ignore the fact that you, you had a beautiful little daughter. I love you. And I respect that you're still in pain over Grace. So are we okay? Please say yes.
E.J.: Sure. Okay.
Good. I love you. And I just, I want a beautiful future for us. For all three of us.
E.J.: I do too.
Rafe: There you are, Ari.
Rafe: Where did you go earlier?
Rafe: Ari. Where did you go?
Arianna: To go see Sami.
Rafe: Mm-hmm. And?
Arianna: And she showed me the letter from Meredith.
Rafe: Did you say anything to her?
Rafe: You're not gonna stop me from leaving Salem, and don't try and talk me out of it.
Arianna: Rafe, since when are you one to run away from your problems? What are you gonna do, just drop everything? Leave Salem, leave me, leave Sami?
Rafe: Ari. You know why I have to do this.
Sami: Allie, sweetheart, I know. I know it makes you sad to think about, but, um... but Rafe is gonna miss you too, honey. He really is. He's gonna miss you a lot. What am I doing? If I love him, I have to believe in him. I mean, that's what I would want, right? I want to be given the chance to explain. That's what I have to do. I should call him. I should just call him and ask him.
Kate: What you're saying is that our Chloe may not be with us much longer.
Victor: Daniel, I'll do everything I can to prove you innocent.
Rafe: This is my decision, and I'm handling this.
Arianna: Right, the way you handled the night Emily died?
Lucas: I think it's very possible that Rafe killed his fiancée.Back to The TV MegaSite's Days of Our Lives Site
