Kate: Hey, sweetheart.

Lucas: Hey.

Kate: Well, you look fabulous. What's the occasion?

Lucas: Going to the courthouse. Make sure that son of a bitch who tried to kill my wife doesn't make bail.

Kate: [Sighs]

Bo: Hey, Doc. I just saw your lawyer. He should be down any minute.

Daniel: Good. Then we're on our way to court, right? No more delays.

Bo: Look, man, I know you're anxious to get this thing--

Daniel: You're damn right I am. Because as soon as I make bail I am on my way to the hospital to help Chloe recover.

E.J.: Samantha hid the fact that I had a child from me. That woman deserves to be punished. I'm gonna make damn sure she is.

Nicole: Don't worry, it's already happening.

E.J.: What do you mean by that?

Nicole: Nothing, really. Nothing.

E.J.: What do you mean by that?

Mia: It's--it's not about Kinsey. Well, you should know... I'm not a virgin.

Will: What, him? Oh, come on, Mia, it had to be, right? Right?

Rafe: Will. Mia. How's it going?

Meredith’s Voice: Dear Ms. Brady, I've given it a lot of thought and I feel it's my responsibility to tell you all that happened on the day my sister... Raphael’s fiancé died. Then you'll understand this: It was no accident.

Nicole: Look, honey, we've been under a lot of stress lately, okay? Can't we just let this go?

E.J.: I'd like a straight answer, please. Why is Samantha’s life already a living hell?

Nicole: Because of you.

Rafe: Construction crew that I'm working with is doing some remodeling in the back, so, uh. Sorry, did I interrupt something here?

Mia: Uh, I-I've got to go.

Rafe: Oh. Listen, well, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. I heard about your dad's wife and it's pretty serious. I know people are pretty upset about that. Did you and Mia get in a fight or something?

Will: No. But I just found out something.

Rafe: About Mia?

Will: Yeah. And this other guy.

Sami: This is trash. Okay? Meredith's lost her sister, and she's just looking for someone to blame.

Kate: Honey, you know that you can't speak at the hearing, at the bail hearing, right? You know that.

Lucas: Yeah.

Kate: I mean, do you really think you should go and put yourself through that?

Lucas: Well, you know what, Mom? If they're gonna let that bastard walk they're gonna hear about it from me.

Kate: Okay, no. That's exactly what you can't do, okay? The judge is gonna do what they're gonna do. That's it. We have to stay out of it.

Lucas: All right. All right. Fine, you win, all right? I won't go.

Kate: Good. That's good. Well, why don't the two of us do something this afternoon? You know, we'll put the past aside for a little while and do something.

Lucas: You know what? There's something I have to take care of first.

Kate: What?

Lucas: I got to talk to Chloe. You know, assuming she can hear me, that is.

Kate: Talk to Chloe about what?

Lucas: Whether or not I forgive her.

Lexie: Her brain activity's continuing to diminish.

Maxine: Should I bring in a ventilator?

Lexie: You better have one on standby. Her breathing could start to shut down any minute now.

Bo: The best thing you can do for yourself right now is take this one step at a time.

Daniel: Right, right. Listen, listen. I know the hospital is not gonna let me treat Chloe, but once I am free again, I can--I can talk things over with Lexie. I can call colleagues in from Johns Hopkins, Stanford, and--

Bo: Doc, Doc, stop, would you? I'm talking about making bail, here.

Daniel: Why wouldn't I be able to make bail? Look, I've got enough money.

Bo: It's not about the money, Doc. It's about the case against you. You admitted that you had an affair with Chloe and that you want to take her out of town. And we have testimony that she didn't want to go with you.

Daniel: Hmm. So I'm not innocent until proven guilty.

Bo: You're young. You've got money. And you're a doctor. You could go anywhere in this world and make a new start for yourself.

Daniel: Meaning?

Bo: They're gonna say you're a flight risk. If the judge agrees, this cell will be your home until you go to trial.

Rafe: Mm-mm.

Will: I just...

Rafe: Hey, listen, you don't want to talk about it, that's no problem.

Will: I-I was just-- uh, surprised. That's all.

Rafe: That Mia's had other boyfriends, or?

Will: No. Not that. I just didn't think...

Rafe: So Mia's been with this other guy.

Will: Hey, it's no big deal.

Rafe: Hey, it would be to me. Seriously. It is kind of a big deal.

Will: Really?

Rafe: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, honestly, I wasn't even in your mom's life when she was with EJ. Or your dad, for that matter, but I'm gonna tell ya, that stuff still gets to me. I just can't help it.

Will: Right.

Rafe: But I'll tell you something, Will, in the long run, jealousy is a real killer. So eventually you got to ask yourself, am I gonna worry about the past? Or am I gonna live in the now with this person that I love? With your mom the answer's easy.

Will: So you two are cool now? Right?

Rafe: Yeah, we're good. Obviously, you know, we've had some rough patches with, uh-- with Grace. We're good. We're stronger than ever.

Sami: This is just not true.

Lucas: What? What?

Kate: I want to--I want to come with you.

Lucas: Why? For what?

Kate: Honey, look, you can have your privacy. I'm not going in the room, I just-- I know this is a really terrible time. It's a terrible time, and I want to be there for you. I want to help you.

Lucas: I don't need help.

Kate: I know that I have made a lot of mistakes, and a lot of them involved Chloe. Okay? So this is for me. I just want to be there with you and I want to help you. It's for my sake. Please?

Lucas: Fine, fine, whatever.

Kate: I love you very much. You know whatever I do I do for you. Mwah.

Lucas: Oh.

Kate: [Laughs]

Lexie: Hi, sweetheart.

Abe: How's Chloe doing? Sorry. Well, you look like you could use some good news.

Lexie: Yeah, I could.

Abe: Well, check your email.

Nicole: EJ...

E.J.: Wait a second. Hey. Why would you say that? Why would you say Samantha’s life is already a living hell because of me?

Nicole: All right, look. There is one person in Salem that I have history with. It is Sami. Now normally when she starts whining and moaning about her life, my attitude is, well, you know, you brought it on yourself, bitch.

E.J.: Normally, but not now.

Nicole: She made a mistake. She didn't tell you about Grace for her own reasons, which were all wrong, but still it was just a mistake.

E.J.: It was just a mistake, was it?

Nicole: Yes. And for some reason you can't forgive mistakes. I don't know why. It's just the way that you've been lately, and frankly, it's terrifying.

E.J.: Where exactly are you going with this?

Nicole: I've made mistakes, EJ, a lot of them. Ever since we started seeing each other.

Mia: No. No. Oh, God, this is stupid.

Chad: I, uh, hate seeing you cry. I know I made you cry, like, a million times, but, uh, it still gets to me. You know? I mean, I know it's probably my fault. Always was. But, uh, you seemed fine at the gym. What did I say? Or did I do something? Must have been pretty stupid. Look, I know you think I'm, like, this total jerk... but I swear, Mia... I never, never wanted to see you cry.

Mia: I know. When we were together you always wanted to see me laugh.

Chad: I wish I could make that happen again, Mia. I really do.

E.J.: Okay. Tell me. What mistakes have you made?

Nicole: I knew it, I knew-- I knew you were gonna say that. You know, you're so hung up on judging me and Sami, anybody-- everybody, that you--you-- you can't even hear what I am trying to say.

E.J.: What I'm hearing, which is baffling, to say the least, is that you have somehow decided that you are on Samantha’s side.

Nicole: I am not on her side, EJ, I am on your side.

E.J.: Then why are you jumping to her defense? You're accusing me of making her life a living hell.

Nicole: How do you expect to be happy? If you spend the rest of your life hating Sami? Trying to get revenge and making her life miserable? I want you to be happy, EJ, I want you to find peace, and I want you to let Sami find hers.

E.J.: I hope she never has peace in her life.

Nicole: [Sighs] EJ... I know you suffered when Grace died. But it was Sami’s loss too. She cried every night for two weeks. She's still suffering. Why can't that be enough?

E.J.: Just don't get it, do you? It's not about Grace. She lied to me. She lied to me about my daughter, my own flesh and blood.

Nicole: Maybe she wouldn't have if she just had a little more time. Sami didn't know that Grace would die so suddenly. But it happened, EJ. And now she has to live with that loss forever.

E.J.: Yes, she does.

Nicole: Why can't you show a little more compassion? It didn't have to be this way. What if it wasn't even her daughter who died?

Rafe: Hey. Sami, guess what. Got the whole afternoon off. We have it to ourselves. What?

Sami: Tell me it's not true.

Lexie: Oh, my God. Kennedy elementary? He got in? I--Theo got into Kennedy?

Abe: Well, it'll still be special education, but he's gonna be mainstream. In there with all the other kids. You--you don't look very happy.

Lexie: Uh, no, I-I am. I am, honey, I'm just-- wow, I'm just, uh, surprised. Wow. Theo's about to start kindergarten.

Abe: You're worried that he won't keep up. He won't adjust.

Lexie: Aren't you?

Abe: I am. Yes. But I think we should give it a chance. If it doesn't work out we have other options. We prayed for this, remember?

Lexie: Yeah. Yeah, no, yeah, of course I do. No, it's good. It's good. Yeah.

Mia: You want me to laugh?

Chad: Well, not just 'cause you were crying. I mean, you know, like before. When you were so much fun.

Mia: Yeah, well, I let it happen. That made life stop being fun, Chad.

Chad: Yeah, I know, babe. I really do. And I know it must've hurt when I just disappeared on you like that. And if I had a choice... and my parents hadn't shipped me off to that stupid boarding school, we'd still be at the beach and having a ton of laughs, you know?

Mia: Whatever.

Chad: The thing is... maybe I can't change what I did, but I never want to see you hurt or crying again.

Mia: I wasn't crying because of you.

Chad: You weren't? Then why were you crying?

Will: Mia.

E.J.: What in the world does that mean? That it wasn't Samantha’s daughter who died?

Nicole: I mean it was a fluke that Grace got so sick.

E.J.: Who--who else's child could it have been?

Nicole: The illness came out of nowhere. Nature can be random sometimes. That's all I meant. It can happen to anyone. Anyone's child. To ours--to Sydney.

E.J.: Yeah. No--I mean, yes, I realize that.

Nicole: [Sighs] Then EJ... don't you think you can show Sami a little compassion? I mean, after all, she was in that room... knowing it was a losing battle. That awful room. Where you feel so helpless... knowing that your baby is slipping away... and there's nothing you can do. That kind of pain is... is so overwhelming.

E.J.: Nicole... who are you talking about?

Nicole: What?

E.J.: Who are you talking about?

Rafe: The hell has EJ done now? Honest to God, if he's found another way to hurt you--

Sami: It's not from EJ.

Rafe: When did Meredith send this?

Sami: It was under the door when I walked in. It's about Emily. Is what she wrote in the letter true?

Bo: You okay?

Daniel: It's weird, you know. Spent my entire life helping people, won all kinds of awards, but when you get right down to it, I am nothing but a flight risk.

Bo: Sorry, man.

Daniel: Apparently I can fly to Brazil and never look back. Even though the only person I truly love is right here in Salem, who needs my help, and I know I c-- hmm...hmm. Thanks. Thanks for sticking by me.

Bo: Hey, I just said my piece. But the D.A. hates my guts. Listen, this--this is not over.

Daniel: You're damn right it's not. Ugh, God. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm gonna be in this cell till my trial. And then I'm gonna be in another cell until the day I die.

Bo: [Sighs]

[Heart rate monitor beeping]

Lucas: I wish I could say everything is gonna be fine. I wish I was the kind of guy who could say that he forgives you. That I'm some kind of saint and I can forgive you at any time, but... I'm just not. I'm the moron who thought that if I loved you enough, if I gave you everything that I had, that you would love me too. The idiot that thought that you could be a good mother to Allie. But yet you tuck her in every night, you tell her you love her, and you tell me that you love me, and yet you go out and sleep with another guy? The answer is no. I don't give you any forgiveness. Do you hear me? No forgiveness. I mean, maybe... maybe if you woke up right now and you told me why you did the things you did, if you explained it to me. But that's not gonna happen, is it? See, it doesn't really matter if you live or die, Chloe. As far as I'm concerned, we are dead.

Nicole: I was talking about Sami.

E.J.: Nicole. It sounded like you were talking about yourself a little bit. Losing a baby.

Nicole: No. Of course not, I--

E.J.: Why are you so emotional?

Nicole: For pity's sake. I'm trying to get you to be a little empathetic to what Sami went through.

E.J.: No. No. It's more than that. You're invested in that pain. That torture of losing a child. Something else is going on.

Nicole: No, honey, there's nothing.

E.J.: Darling... Grace was a great loss. But she was my loss. And she was Samantha’s loss. Why are you so involved?

Nicole: [Crying] You're here. Oh, my God. You're finally here.

Mia: The baby...

Nicole: Is perfect.

Nicole: EJ, why--why do you keep saying I'm so involved? I mean, how many times do I have to tell you? I'm a mother, and mothers feel--

E.J.: Nicole, there were a lot of mothers at that funeral. None of them reacted the way you did. So whatever is going on doesn't have anything to do with being a mother. It's time we-- we talked about Sydney.

Nicole: Why?

E.J.: Because whatever is going on, it has something to do with the connection between you... Sydney... and Grace.

Rafe: Okay. Sami, I can imagine that Meredith would've put all kinds of things in this letter, but since I haven't read it yet, I don't know if any of them are true, so you want to just, uh-- want to tell me what it says? Okay. Well, you already know that Emily died on our wedding day in a car crash. Anything else? Anything else Meredith says in here?

Sami: I don't know. Is there anything else you want to tell me about it? Some other things that maybe made it seem like it wasn't an accident?

Rafe: Like what? Sami, I can't just sit here and defend myself against that look. What?

Sami: All right, fine. You want to know what? Why was Emily upset before the wedding? Did you two have a fight? Why did you have a fight? Did you have a fight because maybe she found out something about you that was gonna hurt your career at the FBI?

Rafe: I can't talk about that--

Sami: What about--how come you were leaving? Why were you in that car in the first place? Did you make her get in the car with you? Were you going fast? Why were you driving recklessly? Where were you headed on your wedding day? Did you and she have a huge fight before your wedding, before she died?

Rafe: What are you really asking me? Did Emily and I have a huge fight before I killed her?

Kate: Are you okay?

[Heart rate monitor beeping]

Lucas: No. No, Mom, I'm not, and I don't think I ever will be.

Kate: Too bad. It didn't have to be this way. But you made your choices. Now you're getting to enjoy the consequences. With any luck you're gonna be in this bed till the day you die. The one bed you'll never share with Daniel.

Bo: Damn it. There's got to be something I missed. Hey. You sure there's no one, um-- no one at the hospital, a nurse, or maybe someone at the TV show, who overheard you and Chloe talking before she collapsed?

Daniel: I don't know, man, I don't think so.

[Cell phone rings]

Bo: Hey, Jenkins. All right, I'm on my way. I got to go.

Daniel: Go.

Bo: Like I said, you hang in there. This isn't over.

Victor: Don't tell me you've given up already.

Daniel: Victor. You finally showed up. I was beginning to think you'd given up on me.

Victor: Oh, of course not.

Daniel: Were you out of town?

Victor: I had some arrangements to make. In the meantime, you need to start getting ready to get out of here.

Daniel: [Scoffs] Yeah, why?

Victor: You're free. Courts are drawing up the papers even as we speak.

Daniel: Well, let me guess, you told the judge I wasn't guilty and he said, "Oh, okay, yeah, no problem."

Victor: I told him he had to be reasonable.

Daniel: And he granted bail.

Victor: Of course.

Daniel: How much?

Victor: 60 million.

Daniel: Wha--?

Victor: You're my godson. I held you in my arms and I promised your parents and God that I would look out for you. Turns out you're the one doing most of the protecting. First you save Bo's life, and then Kate’s, and Philip’s? It's the least I could do.

Daniel: Hmm. So this is just payback. Not because you think I'm innocent.

Victor: Daniel, I know you're innocent.

Daniel: Yeah, thanks, you know what? You're always... you know. Who? Who do you think did this?

Chad: Hey, man.

Will: I was hoping I'd catch up to you. Do you think we could talk? Alone?

Mia: Uh... Chad.

Chad: Uh, yeah, hey, uh, you got it. Later. Remember what I said, though, huh? Laughing. The beach.

Will: Listen, I wanted to let you know that, uh... I'm really glad you were totally honest about everything before.

Mia: Yeah. Right.

Will: What--no, no, I'm serious. And I know that wasn't easy. Telling me that.

Mia: I just thought you should know.

Will: Yeah, look, and now I do. And I'm not gonna waste time caring about it. Okay? I only care about now. About us.

Mia: I really wish I could believe that.

E.J.: Nicole, one of the things that I love about you is that you're a very emotional person.

Nicole: True.

E.J.: But this, uh, "I'm a mother" argument doesn't really fully explain your behavior of late. Which, at times, it's been... disturbing.

Nicole: Thanks a lot.

E.J.: This is not just about Grace. This is also about Sydney. There's a connection. And I know you're trying to hide it from me.

Nicole: EJ, you've-- you've said it before. Sydney and Grace were born on the same day. They're half-sisters.

[Cell phone rings]

E.J.: Of course there's a connection, and I'm h--hardly trying to hide that. I'm sorry, sweetheart. I-- it's Father. Yes, Father. Uh, yes, I know him. Well, he's always complaining. No, fine, no. No, I'm not busy. I'll--I'll do it straight away. Right.

Nicole: I could go upstairs.

E.J.: It's fine. It's probably a good idea if I get some fresh air anyway. [Sighs] I'm gonna come back in a bit, and when I come back I want some answers.

Nicole: I've got to find a way to convince him. Soon. But first there's something I need to know.

Sami: I didn't say that. I didn't say that you killed her.

Rafe: Oh, yeah, but you thought it, didn't you?

Sami: No, I didn’t.

Rafe: Uh-huh. Then why all the leading questions? And why would you believe a letter from Meredith before you've even talked to me? When did I become the person that you doubt first?

Sami: I am not believing the letter, I'm asking you. I'm asking you to explain it to me. And I, for the record, would like to know why you were hiding those details from me in the first place.

Rafe: Oh, I'm sorry, because I thought you understood how much pain that this has caused me. That I had to live with it, and breathe it, and have nightmares about it for years.

Sami: Believe me, I do understand.

Rafe: No, I thought you did, but obviously you don't understand how much pain that this has caused me.

Sami: That is not true.

Rafe: Well, you know what, Sami? I'll tell you what is true. You got the letter, and then you read it, and then you started demanding answers. "Rafe, I need answers. I need more answers." Well, I'll tell you what. I'll give you one last answer. See this? I'm done with it.

Will: Well, you should believe it. 'Cause it's true. Okay, I want things to be about us... what's going on with us... right now... and in the future.

Mia: Our future?

Will: Yeah.

Mia: After what I told you today, what kind of future do we have?

Kate: Yes? And? Bail denied. Excellent. Yes, thank you. Yes.

Victor: Daniel, we'll talk about what happened to Chloe later. Right now I need you to get your stuff together. I don't want to spend any more time around here than necessary.

Daniel: You know Kate did this.

Victor: Daniel.

Daniel: Come on, answer me. Come on, don't you get it? Chloe is dying and I can save her. Victor, please. Please just tell me what you know.

[Heart rate monitor]

Chloe: Daniel...

E.J.: Nicole. Hey. It's me. Listen, I'm heading back. I just wanted to, uh, let you know that we need to continue the conversation we were having about Sydney and Grace when I get back. Okay? Something's obviously upsetting you, and I'd like to know what it is. Bye.

Sami: Just a second.

Nicole: Hi, Sami. Um, listen, I just wanted to thank you for not saying anything to E-- oh, uh... what's wrong? What's going on?

Sami: Rafe, uh, left. I mean, he really left, like-- like I think he's not coming back.

Nicole: Oh.

Chad: You didn't tell him.

Will: Tell me what?

Nicole: Why did Rafe leave?

Sami: We had a fight.

Rafe: I'm leaving Salem.

Stefano: You're playing right into my hands, Señor Hernandez.
