E.J.: My own daughter, and you kept her from me, you heartless, sadistic... precious Nicole. It was so much simpler with you than it ever was with Samantha.
Stefano: So, where are you off to?
Stefano: [Sighs] Can I give you a lift? Hm? I'll have my driver drop you off on the way.
Nicole: On the way where? Wait, where are you going?
Stefano: Well, it won't be for a little while, because I have some business to take care of first. And once that is accomplished, then I want to make sure that my plan is all falling into place, and that Rafael has packed his bag and he is leaving town. Just what you wished for, Nicole. So what are you up to?
Sami: And Allie, you have to remember to eat your fruit first, before you have your cookie. That goes for you too.
Rafe: Okay, yeah, right. Fruit before cookie.
Sami: Ally, come on. We don't want to keep Jenny's mom waiting.
Rafe: Uh, Sami.
Sami: Yeah? Ooh. [Chuckles] I got them mixed up, sorry.
Rafe: Not that I have anything against a pink glitter thermos or anything.
Sami: This is so normal. I like normal.
Mia: Will. Hey, I thought you were going to call me back last night. How's everything with your step-mom and dad?
Will: Look, I don't wanna talk about it, okay? Just leave me alone.
Nicole: I have a few errands to run, so I thought I'd get an early start.
Nicole: So, wait. What's this about Rafe? He left Sami already?
Stefano: I told you I would take care of it.
Nicole: Yeah, but you never told me how.
Stefano: Well, I did a little digging. And I discovered that Samantha's new beau was engaged a couple of years ago.
Stefano: Emily Hudson was her name. And she died. Tragically. A few hours before they were meant to be married.
Nicole: My God, that's awful.
Stefano: Ah, and ironic.
Nicole: You think Rafe had something to do with this woman's death?
Stefano: Mm-hmm, I suspected as much. Yes, but I wanted to be positive. So I arranged for Emily's sister to be brought to town. I mean, because who else would be able to fill in the blanks like her?
Nicole: And did she?
Stefano: Each and every one. Rafael Hernandez killed his fiancÚ. And I have convinced her sister to explain everything to Samantha.
Stephanie: It's Dr. Clement, right? I know I have that somewhere. [Clink] Oh, my--oh, my goodness!
Roman: Sweetie...are you okay?
Stephanie: I'm sorry, I'm going to have to call you back. Ugh.
Roman: Are you all right?
Stephanie: I'm just a klutz. Not exactly new information.
Roman: Well, I don't think it's a coordination thing. I can see you're upset. It's Philip, isn't it?
Stephanie: Uncle Roman, how do you will yourself to stop loving someone? Is it even possible?
Nathan: Hey. Ooh, huge favor to ask. Can we not give Mr. Murphy those Maxim magazines? He has BP issues, and I'd rather not exacerbate the problem.
Melanie: How about fly fishing?
Nathan: Sure. Anything that doesn't involve...
Nathan: [Clicks mouth] Thanks. Hey, I got a break coming up. Do you want to grab a coffee?
Melanie: You know what, I don't have time. Kind of busy, sorry.
Sami: Wow. Getting those car seats are-- what are you doing? Aren't you going to be late for work?
Rafe: Nope. Boss called, said I don't have to be there for three hours. Three hours.
Sami: Wow, three whole hours, huh?
Rafe: Yeah. What do you think we could do in three hours?
Sami: Uh, clean out the closets? Fix the garbage disposal?
Rafe: This is not what I was thinking about.
Sami: It's not?
Sami: How about some scrabble?
Rafe: Try again.
Rafe: Go away.
Sami: Oh, come on! You go.
Rafe: So much for three hours.
Sami: Make it quick.
Rafe: We don't want any.
Nicole: Oh. Uh, what are you still doing here?
Maggie: It would seem someone is not very happy with you today.
Nathan: Oh, you mean you noticed that through all of her subtlety?
Maggie: Mm. Did it happen at the concert last night? I mean, my friend Sylvia said she saw you there with a date. So I just assumed--
Nathan: Yeah, no. It wasn't...
Maggie: Oh! Well, then...
Nathan: Stephanie Johnson. Um...
Nathan: Yeah, we're just friends. It wasn't a date. Just hanging out. I don't need to be in a relationship right now. You know that I have long hours and I'm constantly studying, so I just don't think it's the time to get involved with anybody
Maggie: Mm-hmm. So then why do you keep looking over there at her?
Nathan: Oh, I'm just curious. She's obviously angry with me about something. Just trying to figure out what. So... you know, it doesn't even matter right? Whatever.
Will: Look, I'm sorry, I didn't-- didn't mean to--
Mia: If you don't want to talk about it, it's cool. Sometimes it's easier not to. But if you change your mind, I'm always here.
Will: It's my step-mom. She's in a coma.
Mia: My God, what happened?
Will: Someone tried to poison her.
Mia: Do they know who?
Will: It's the guy she was having an affair with.
Will: That's why I didn't tell you. [Sighs] God, why can't I just have a normal family? Everything's so screwed up.
Mia: Don't say that.
Will: Mia, if you're smart... you'll stay away from me.
Chad: Well, if it isn't the pom-pom princess.
Kinsey: Cheerleading, hello.
Chad: Right, sorry.
Kinsey: So... do you think Will's gonna likey?
Chad: If he doesn't, there's something wrong with him.
Kinsey: I know, right. I just hope our plan works.
Chad: Ah, trust me. There's only one thing left to do. Then Mia and Will are on the fast track to history.
E.J.: Morning, Father. You haven't seen Nicole, have you? She...
Stefano: Ah, she had a few errands to do. And you'll have to excuse me because I have to leave too.
E.J.: Where are you going?
Stefano: Well... I have a--a visitor who is leaving town, and I feel compelled to express my gratitude.
E.J.: Oh. Hope you profited from the engagement.
Stefano: Oh, yes. Indeed, it was extremely... productive.
Rafe: Yeah, of course I'm here. Where else would I be?
Nicole: I don't know. Work, maybe?
Sami: Nicole, what's going on?
Nicole: Um...Sami, look, I'm sorry to barge in like this. But, um... well, E.J. did something that you're not gonna be too happy about. So I thought maybe you should hear it from me before you discover it yourself.
Stephanie: I just hate that I can't deal with this.
Roman: Well... you do know that I've been where you are. And believe me, it hurts like hell for a while.
Stephanie: [Sighs] I know I'm not the first person to ever get their heart broken.
Roman: That doesn't matter. It is still not an easy thing to deal with.
Stephanie: You're being really, really sweet. But I know what you really want to say.
Roman: And what would that be?
Stephanie: "I told you so."
Melanie: Hey, Maggie.
Melanie: Didn't know you were volunteering today.
Maggie: Well, you left in such a hurry this morning, I didn't even get to talk to you.
Melanie: Uh...I--I, yeah. Sorry about that, I just wanted to get here early. Get a good parking spot.
Maggie: So it had nothing to do with Nathan?
Melanie: No. Why--why would you think that?
Maggie: Well, honey, Nathan said that you'd been rather cold to him lately. So any particular reason?
Melanie: It's for his own good.
Maggie: I don't follow.
Melanie: Um... Nathan's always, like, complimenting me.
Melanie: And it's awkward, but he thinks I'm this really good person that has all this potential to-- he doesn't--
Maggie: Okay. I get it now. You're pushing Nathan away because you don't think you're worthy of him.
Meredith: Ah! Mr. DiMera.
Stefano: Ms. Hudson. I know that you have a plane to catch, but I wanted to say a proper good-bye.
Meredith: Well, that's very kind of you. Please come in.
Stefano: Thank you.
Meredith: I'm glad you came by. I wanted to thank you again for the generous grant you awarded my hospital.
Stefano: It was an honor for me to do it. And again, I am sorry that your visit conjured up such unpleasant memories.
Meredith: No. Actually, it's been very helpful. I've been very angry ever since my sister died. And...I think I've actually been able to find some closure. Hateful word, isn't it?
Stefano: Oh, not if it's accurate. I assume that you took my advice and you contacted Rafael's new girlfriend?
Meredith: I made sure that Samantha Brady will find out everything that Rafe ever did to Emily.
Nicole: Hello, my beautiful family. My darling. Ooh, excuse me. [Playful gasps] Oh, my goodness! Hello, hello. Oh! Hi.
E.J.: So where were you?
Nicole: Oh, I just had to run a few errands.
E.J.: My father mentioned. I mean, specifically, what kind of errands?
Nicole: Nothing important. Daddy changed your little outfit, huh?
E.J.: If it wouldn't be important, I wouldn't be asking.
Nicole: That's a good thing, because you know what?
Nicole: Out of your little clothes. Yes, you are.
E.J.: Please answer me.
Nicole: What? Honey, what's wrong?
E.J.: I'd like to know where you were all morning.
Nicole: I thought we established, E.J., long ago that you were not to keep tabs on me.
E.J.: We also established that you weren't going to keep secrets from me.
Nicole: Oh, great. Okay, so I don't give you a detailed account of where I've been every minute of every day, so now I'm keeping secrets from you? Okay, who am I now? Am I Samantha? Hm, is that who you're comparing me to?
Sami: That bastard! How could he do this?
Rafe: Sami, not here, not now.
Sami: Her name is Grace Rafaela Brady! Her name is Grace Brady! How could he...
Rafe: It's okay, Sami. Talk to the engraver, we'll have him change it, okay?
Sami: Why can't he just let her rest in peace? Grace, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
Rafe: It's okay, Sami. Sami, we're gonna fix this, all right? We'll fix it.
Sami: When Nicole said that E.J. had done this, I thought-- I thought it was some sort of sick joke. I mean... I just don't understand how he could do something like this.
Rafe: I don't know. I don't know.
Sami: He is a vindictive son of a bitch.
Sami: And his heart is made of stone. And I am not gonna let him get away with this. We are not letting him get away with this.
Rafe: Sami, Sami.
Mia: Will. If you're this upset, imagine what your dad must be going through. He's gonna need you to be strong for him. I'll be strong for you, okay? I'll help you get through this.
Chad: Uh, so what do you say? You in?
Chad: I mean, anything to hook up with Will, right?
Kinsey: Okay, could you not make me sound so pathetic, please?
Chad: That is why you wanna do this isn't it?
Kinsey: It's one of the reasons. But that doesn't mean I won't dump him really quickly. I mean, he's cute. But I get the feeling he's not a laugh a minute, you know?
Chad: Oh, yeah, like you care about the laughs, right?
Kinsey: Okay, you're right, I don't. Okay? Should we do it?
Chad: Let the games begin.
Stefano: Tell me, how did Rafael's girlfriend respond? You said her name was--um, uh... Savannah--no, no, no. Samantha.
Stefano: Yeah. Well, she must've been devastated when you told her about your sister.
Meredith: Oh, I decided not to tell her in person. I thought it might be too difficult. I wrote her a letter. I figured that way, there'd be less chance I'd forget anything.
Stefano: Mm-hmm. And this letter, I mean, you put it in the mail?
Meredith: Oh, no. I had a messenger pick it up this morning. I told them to drop it off at her door immediately.
Nicole: The truth is, I was out shopping for Sydney. I mean, you saw, she's growing out of her clothes. And I just wanted to get her a few new cute little outfits.
E.J.: [Chuckles] Why didn't you just tell me that?
Nicole: Well, I know, I should've. Okay, but I got defensive. Obviously. Just that I thought you were being suspicious of me again. And you know how much I hate that.
E.J.: I'm only suspicious of you because I feel that you're withholding something from me. Look, I know that you have some insecurities about how much I love you and how much I trust you. And I understand that those come from your childhood, and from some previous relationships. But I really need you to try to just let them go. I love you. I love you, I adore you, I cherish you. I think you're wonderful.
E.J.: Come here.
E.J.: Harold, can you get the door?
Nicole: Oh, um, you know what, honey, I saw him leaving when I pulled into the driveway.
E.J.: Oh, I gave him the morning off, hold on.
Sami: You son of a bitch.
Melanie: All right, so... now, I don't understand, 'cause I thought you would've been thrilled to find out I wasn't gonna go after your brilliant grandson who could have any girl he ever wanted.
Maggie: And why would I think that? Haven't I made it clear that I think the world of you?
Melanie: Yeah, you have. I just always figured that was to boost my self esteem.
Maggie: No. That's not it at all. Sweet heart, I know that you haven't had the most idyllic childhood. But you have to stop using that as an excuse.
Melanie: An excuse?
Maggie: All right, let me rephrase that. I get the feeling that you think your life isn't exciting unless there's a bad boy a part of it. Someone who is unkind to you and is unattainable. I mean, you got so used to being treated badly, that you started to think that that's what you deserve. Am I right?
Melanie: Yeah, I guess so.
Maggie: Well, you've got to break that pattern of thinking, Melanie. Don't spend the rest of your life looking for some guy who's gonna hurt you. Find that one that's gonna love you. The way you deserve to be loved.
Kinsey: Will, um...thanks for coming.
Will: Yeah, well, I mean, you sounded pretty upset on the phone.
Kinsey: It's my parents. Well, they've been fighting a lot lately. And...I think they're getting a divorce.
Will: That's too bad.
Kinsey: You cannot tell anyone about this, okay?
Will: No, I'm not--no, I wouldn't tell anyone.
Kinsey: I'm sorry to unload all my drama on you, but, well, I know you've gone through it with your parents. So I thought, maybe you could give me some advice? I really need a friend right now, Will.
Chad: Are you here for kickboxing?
Mia: Oh, uh, yeah.
Chad: Still at it, huh? You were taking that class when we were dating.
Chad: Have you told him I'm transferring?
Mia: Will? No, not yet.
Chad: Well, I mean, I'd say we break the news to him now, but it seems like he's kind of busy.
Melanie: Hey. Um, if you want something to read, there's this really great magazine about fly fishing I could probably hook you up with if you want. Or I could just sit here and keep you company.
Nathan: I thought you were too busy for a break.
Melanie: Yeah, well, that was then. And this is now. I changed my mind. Um, us women, we tend to do that from time to time. For example, there is this guy that came into town. He's a doctor--intern, actually. And, um... [Clears throat] Everyone at the hospital really respects him. The nurses, his patients, except for Mr. Murphy. I hear there was a brouhaha over a maxim magazine? Um... anyways, this guy--who's relatively cool, by the way-- asked me to hang out with him last night and I turned him down. Not because I didn't like him, but because I thought he wouldn't like me if he got to know me better. Um... but I've been thinking about it. And I kind of do want to go out with him. In fact, I was thinking of being really nervy and maybe asking him out myself. So, um... what do you think? Nathan, you want to hang out with me?
Sami: How dare you do that to Grace's headstone! Change her name like that!
E.J.: How dare I? She was my daughter.
Sami: You didn't even discuss it with me.
E.J.: Well, I'm sure that's a far greater transgression than not telling me she was my daughter until she was dead.
Sami: Look, E.J.--
Nicole: Everyone, easy, easy, easy. Please, come on, you guys.
E.J.: Wait one sec. How did you find out?
E.J.: I had that changed last night. Who told you?
Nathan: I don't have time to play games, Mel. Okay.
Melanie: Yeah, that's fair. Um, that's kind of been a pattern. But just, um, hear me out. Look, I know I have a reputation. I know what people say about me behind my back. But it's different with you. I-- I like myself when I'm around you. And that's unusual for me, liking myself. I'm--I'm freaking you out, huh? And now you're freaking me out by not talking. Could you say something? Please?
Nathan: My focus right now is my career.
Melanie: Oh, okay. Well, there's a non sequitur for you.
Nathan: I just--I don't think you get it.
Melanie: What, that you're ambitious?
Nathan: No, that I don't have time for distractions.
Melanie: Is that what I am to you? I'm a distraction?
Kinsey: I thought they'd be together forever, you know? And now I just keep thinking about things, like... who am I gonna live with? What's gonna happen at Christmas? I mean, how did you deal?
Will: Uh, I don't know. I mean, you just kind of get used to it. I don't know why you're confiding in me about this. I mean...we're not even really friends.
Kinsey: Well, I wish we were. Hey, do you wanna grab coffee or something?
Kinsey: I just, you know, I feel a little weird talking about this stuff here. We could go to java. Totally my treat.
Will: Um, you know what? Actually, now's not a good time. So...
Will: Yeah. Um, you know what, you should actually talk to a counselor, though, about that. I think they can help more than I can.
Kinsey: Yeah. Yeah, I probably will. Um... thanks for listening. It really, really helped to vent with you.
Tad: Check you out, bro. When did you and Kinsey get so tight?
Will: What? We're not tight, dude. She just wanted my advice about something.
Will: What are you smiling at, dude? I'm not--not interested in her, okay? I think she's really a bitch, for one thing.
Tad: And she's--she's hot, right?
Will: Not to me. She's not my type.
Tad: Come on, bro. It's Kinsey! She's every guy's type.
Sami: No one told me about the headstone, E.J. I visit my daughter's grave. You think you're the only one who misses her?
E.J.: Always comes back to you, doesn't it Samantha? It's your pain-- it's your suffering.
Rafe: What the hell made you think that you could change Grace's headstone without consulting her mother?
E.J.: I don't need permission-- from her or anybody else. She's my daughter!
Nicole: All right, please. Please, please, keep it down. I don't want to risk waking up Sidney.
Rafe: You have a daughter, E.J.. I believe she's in the other room. Your own flesh and blood that you created with your wife here. But for some reason, you seem to be obsessed with Grace. Why?
E.J.: What exactly are you insinuating?
Rafe: Do you really need me to explain it to you? [Scoffs] If you focused on loving that little girl that you and Nicole brought into the world, maybe you could stop tormenting Sami about Grace. You could leave her alone.
Rafe: That's if you appreciated what you had.
Roman: Steph... I know that right now you feel like you're never gonna get over this. But you're tough. You are not down for the count.
Stephanie: I don't feel tough.
Roman: I know you don't feel tough. But remember the feisty girl who survived that entire ordeal with Owen. You are still that girl, Stephanie. And you will survive this.
Stephanie: I hope you're right.
Roman: I know I'm right. And even though Philip turned out to be a jerk, that doesn't mean there aren't other guys out there. Other guys who will treat you right.
Stephanie: Actually, I did meet someone recently.
Stephanie: Don't get too excited. We're just hanging out. We just went to the concert in the park--as friends.
Roman: Yeah. Well, did you have a good time?
Stephanie: I did. I just hope he thought so too.
Roman: Well, how could he not? Come on, he's out with my beautiful niece. He'd have to be crazy not to have a good time.
Stephanie: And you're not in the least bit prejudiced?
Roman: I am definitely prejudiced, but that doesn't matter. I'm just stating the facts. That's all I'm doing.
Stephanie: I better go. I don't wanna be late for work.
Stephanie: I love you.
Roman: I love you too. Okay. You hang in there.
Stephanie: I will.
Roman: If you need me I'm around.
Stephanie: Sounds good. Thank you. Bye, Uncle Roman.
Melanie: So, um, if I'm a distraction, does that--so do you think about me sometimes?
Nathan: No, what I--
Melanie: No, um, don't answer that. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to put you on the spot like that. I just--so we're clear-- with no games? What--when I said I didn't have time for you... it was 'cause I thought that maybe you liked me more than I deserved. Not because I wasn't interested. I'm sorry we couldn't go to dinner. Might've been fun. Um, I'm gonna just see you back at the hospital.
Tad: So this guy that she went out with, PJ, last summer... he told me they did everything. And they were only together for, like, two weeks.
Will: Mia, hey. Are you here for the classes?
Mia: Right. Hey, T.
Tad: Hey. All right, I'm gonna bounce. Catch you later.
Will: Later. Hey, you didn't--
Mia: I heard.
Will: Look, I'm sorry. T likes to exaggerate sometimes.
Mia: What if he's wrong? About Kinsey? What if she did everything with that guy, 'cause she really thought she loved him?
E.J.: You have the audacity to tell me that I don't appreciate Sydney? Simply because I happen to give a damn about a girl that I never knew was mine?
Sami: The reason you didn't know was because your family goes around murdering people for--
E.J.: All right, enough! Thank you, this is my house. Leave.
Sami: Why don't you look at the man that you married, Nicole? If I were you, I'd take your daughter and run while you still can.
E.J.: Samantha, five seconds, out.
Rafe: Now you listen to me. You pull another stunt like you did last night, there's gonna be hell to pay. Just stay the hell away from us.
Stephanie: Hey, Nathan. It's Stephanie. Listen, I know you're at work right now, I just wanted to call and thank you again for last night. And I was thinking, maybe we can do it again sometime.
Nathan: Mel... look, in medicine, they teach you to not be impetuous. They want you to explore all available options before jumping to conclusions.
Melanie: I see. So am I gonna live, or am I gonna die...of humiliation?
Nathan: Hm, you know, I don't really know yet. I haven't come to a definitive diagnosis, so.
Nathan: So we should give this dinner another shot.
Melanie: Like a date?
Nathan: No, like work. [Laughing] Let's get through this dinner this time, without interruptions. You and me. What do you say?
Melanie: Obviously, I'm going to have to check my calendar.
Nathan: Oh, well, obviously.
Melanie: Yeah. Yeah--yeah, I can probably make it work.
Will: Mia, what are you--what are you talking about?
Mia: I'm saying that just because a girl sleeps with a guy... it doesn't necessarily mean she's easy. Maybe--maybe she thought she was in love with him. Or you know, maybe... he said he was in love with her, and promised they were gonna be together.
Will: Are you defending Kinsey?
Mia: I'm not talking about Kinsey. I'm talking about me.
Will: I don't get it.
Mia: I'm just gonna come right out and say it. [Sighs] I'm not a virgin, Will.
Stefano: The deed is done. Fait accompli. Hm? Samantha and Rafael will be torn apart. Forever. I think it's cause for celebration. Don't you, my dear?
Nicole: Well...Sidney finally calmed down.
E.J.: I'm really sorry. That you had to... endure the wrath of Samantha.
Nicole: You know, I don't blame her for being furious.
Nicole: Do you really think she would ignore the fact that you changed grace's name on her headstone?
E.J.: Would you have me just ignore the fact that she deprived me of my daughter? Should I ignore the fact that she told a despicable lie?
Nicole: No, you shouldn't ignore it. But you also shouldn't-- you shouldn't be trying to hurt her over--
E.J.: What? Stop empathizing! That girl deserves to be punished. I'm gonna make damn sure that's what she gets.
Nicole: Well, I think that's happening even as we speak.
On the next "Days of Our Lives" ~~
Bo: This cell will be your home until you go to trial.
Kate: Talk to Chloe about what?
Lucas: Whether or not I forgive her.
Nicole: What if it wasn't even her daughter who died?
Sami: It's about Emily. Tell me it's not true.
