Sami: Oh...Grandma, I am so sorry they made such a mess. I will definitely bring a change of clothes. Ooh, that sounds... I know. All right, I'll see you in a bit. I love you.
Rafe: Ooh, it's really getting hot out there. Maybe we should turn on the A/C or...maybe not, since we're not gonna be here for long.
Sami: We're not? Where are we going?
Rafe: Well...I figured since we have the afternoon to ourselves, we'd go on a little picnic to our spot.
Sami: Actually, I have a better idea.
Rafe: Oh, yeah?
Sami: Yeah. You showed me your secret spot, and, uh, I'd like to show you mine.
Rafe: Oh, I like the sound of that.
Sami: Me too.
Brady: What's a guy have to do to get some service around here, huh?
Arianna: Brady. Hey. I'm glad you came in. There's something we need to get straight.
Maggie: Oh, I'm so proud of you! I knew you were gonna ace that nursing exam.
Melanie: I'm glad you knew. Now I gotta find my notebook.
Maggie: Uh...is this it?
Maggie: Hi, Mia.
Mia: Hello. Oh, that's mine.
Maggie: Oh. So it is. There's your name.
Mia: Uh, yeah...it's a bunch of short stories.
Maggie: Well, I'm very impressed. It's lovely writing. Are you sure you're only 16?
Mia: Last time I checked. Why?
Maggie: Well, because it reads like it was written by someone very mature... someone who's had a lot of life experience.
Chad: Hey, look who's here.
Will: Is Mia here?
Chad: Naw, she's not in yet. Can I get you something?
Chad: Hey, wait. Look, man... I know we got off on the wrong foot. But can I just ask you something?
Will: Go for it.
Chad: I was talking to Kinsey. You know her, right?
Chad: Yeah, well...she said something about Mia going to rehab.
Will: Look, that's Mia's business, all right? I'm not talking to you about that.
Chad: So you buy it then... that she had some kind of a drug problem? Because I sure donít.
Stefano: Trust me, Nicole. You do not have to worry about Rafael and Samantha. There is, however... someone that you do need to worry about.
Nicole: Someone? Who?
Stefano: The girl, the one who believes that she is the mother of Sydney. Mia? I mean, can she be controlled?
Nicole: I've handled things with Mia. She's not your problem.
Stefano: I hope you are right, my dear.
E.J.: Sweetheart...oh, look who I brought you to see. Is that your mommy? Is that your mommy? Look at that big smile. Who's Daddy's little girl, hey? Who's Daddy's little girl?
Nicole: Yeah. She is very, very lucky to have a wonderful father like you.
E.J.: Yeah. You're not the only person who thinks that.
E.J.: No. I met someone else recently with the same opinion.
Nicole: Really? Who?
E.J.: What was her name? She's a friend of yours, actually. Mia. That's it. Mia.
Arianna: Look, I feel bad about the way we left things yesterday.
Brady: No, no, it's okay.
Arianna: No, I just--I'm nervous, you know, this new job, being the manager, wanting to impress Caroline, it's just--
Brady: Right, right, right. It has nothing to do with me.
Arianna: My being nervous, you mean?
Brady: Yeah. What else would I mean?
Arianna: No, it didnít.
Arianna: Well, I mean why? Do you usually make women nervous?
Brady: No. Just you.
Arianna: Okay, fine. Maybe...you do. A little. Do you want something to eat? Um...on the house? Make it up to you.
Brady: N-no, not on the house. I can pay for my own.
Arianna: No, I'd really like to just--
Brady: You know what I'll take? I'll take A...protein shake, and I'll be sitting right over there.
Rafe: I'm gonna put it on low, okay?
Sami: Should we have it on at all? Isn't that like...anti-green?
Rafe: Uh, no, not really, actually. It's like 100 degrees out there, and it's gonna take a while to cool the place down and... well, the kids are coming later to spend the night, aren't they?
Sami: Oh. Yeah. That makes sense.
Rafe: All right, let's do this. Let's get going.
Sami: Sounds like a plan. Oh, hey, did you turn off the rest of the lights?
Rafe: After you.
Sami: Oh...I forgot...
Sami: What is that?
Nicole: You, uh...you saw Mia?
E.J.: You wanna go see your mommy? Um, yeah, I was just...I took Johnny and Sydney to the park and, uh...I bumped into Will. Mia was with him.
Nicole: Oh, so, uh... how did, uh, rating you as a father come about?
E.J.: I brought up Grace 'cause... you know...'cause Will had spent a lot of time with her, obviously, so I thought he could tell me something about her. And it turned out that Mia, some complete stranger, spent more time with my daughter than I was ever allowed to.
Nicole: EJ, I'm so sorry.
E.J.: It's not--don't be. [Sighs] It's Samantha who lied to me. Kept my daughter from me. Anyway... I'm not supposed to, uh... I'm not supposed to pay her back, am I? That's fine. She'll be punished. Karma...whatever. Her and her friend Rafael Hernandez, they'll...they'll have their day. They'll have their day.
Brady: Wow, thank you.
Arianna: Put an extra banana in it, just the way you like it.
Brady: Nothing, nothing, I'm, um... just trying to decipher all these mixed signals you're giving me.
Arianna: [Stammers] You mind if I sit?
Arianna: Okay, I-I'm sorry, Brady, I-if I'm confusing you. I know I can be...a little...
Arianna: Right. Listen, I have an idea. How 'bout we start over? Hi.
Arianna: I'm Arianna.
Brady: Okay, hi.
Arianna: I'm the new manager here. And I would like you to enjoy your shake in a tension-free environment.
Brady: Wow. Well, that's one hell of a sales pitch. All right, I'm good, I'm in.
Arianna: Okay. I'm gonna get back to work. I'll be over there if you need anything.
Brady: I'm good.
Arianna: Okay...what is wrong with you? He's a really good guy. Can't you just let it go?
Maggie: It's a beautiful first page. May I read the rest some day?
Mia: Yeah. Sure. If you want.
Maggie: I do. I mean it--you are an excellent writer. It only makes sense that you would write with, uh... such sensitivity and insight, given what you've been through.
Mia: What do you mean?
Maggie: Well...you've... you've had a lot to deal with in your young life. Your addiction, your rehab. Well...why, Mia? Is there something else?
Mia: [Laughs] No. Isn't that enough?
Maggie: Well, honey, listen. It's only that I know firsthand how tough it is every single day. I mean...especially for someone so young. And without a family to support you. But you have us now.
Mia: Thank you. That means a lot.
Maggie: Mia, I know that you're not comfortable talking about it. But since you seem to have a flair for writing... why don't you start a journal as a form of therapy?
Mia: Yeah. Thatís...not a bad idea. I might give it a try.
Maggie: Well, good. [Giggles]
Will: So what are you saying? You think Mia lied about going into treatment?
Chad: Look...I knew Mia pretty well, and I'm telling you... she never touched any of that stuff in high school. Never even had a drag off a cigarette...at least not when I knew her.
Will: Yeah, well, maybe you didn't know her as well as you thought.
Chad: [Laughs] No? Ask anyone at Salem West. Mia and I...were like the couple. We were never apart, I swear.
Will: I'm outta here.
Chad: Looks like you're the one who doesn't know Mia as well as you think.
Will: You're full of crap. You know that, Chad?
Chad: Reality's a bitch, bro.
Will: Go to hell, man.
Sami: What's the story?
Rafe: Well, it looks like the A/C is officially...out to lunch.
Sami: It's gonna be like an oven in here by the time I get back with the kids. I should call a repair guy.
Rafe: No, no, no, don't call a repair guy. That could take hours.
Sami: What do you mean? What are we supposed to do?
Rafe: What are we gonna do? I'm gonna take my shirt off and then I'm gonna fix it. That's what we're gonna do.
Sami: Well, I'm certainly a fan of the first part, but are you serious? Have you ever fixed an air conditioner before?
Rafe: No. Not really. But once I did restore a '68 cyclone GT, okay? Just get my tools. I'm gonna get the ladder.
Sami: You got it, Agent ĎFix-It.í
[Cell phone rings]
E.J.: Dubai. Sorry. I have to take this.
Nicole: Oh, you. Hey, did you see this? [Gasps] Oh, look what Mommy got. You want a sippy? Huh?
Stefano: You never answered my question, Nicole.
Nicole: You mean if I can handle Mia? I have her under control. I told you, it's Rafe Hernandez that I'm worried about.
Stefano: Don't be. Elvis is right because... Samantha and Rafaelís day will come.
Nicole: Okay...you keep saying that, but you haven't told me what that means. What, are they gonna get struck by lightning, drown in quicksand?
Stefano: [Chuckling] No, no, no, no. It's--it's not gonna happen by an act of God. You see, their...their fate is, uh, much too important to be left in the hands of nature. The wheels are in motion, Nicole. Samantha is never gonna know that the child that died was not her child but Mia's... and that her child is here, actually, hmm? With us, where she belongs. I'm on your side, Nicole. Always.
Nicole: Thank you, Stefano.
E.J.: Thank you? Thank you for what?
Tad: Will, what's up, man?
Will: Oh, what up, Tad? How's it...
Tad: Just got your text. What's going on?
Will: Uh, nothing, I was just seeing what you're doing today.
Tad: Trying to beat these summer flames, man. Actually, a bunch of us are gonna go kick it at the beach and go for a swim.
Will: That sounds good.
Tad: You should come. And Mia too, if she's around.
Will: Uh...are any of the kids from Salem West going?
Tad: Uh...yeah. Why?
Will: T, you remember how I told you...you know, Mia doesn't really like to talk about her past?
Tad: You said she was like... closed off about it or something.
Will: Yeah, I mean...don't you think that's kind of weird? Like...I don't know, like I don't what went on in her life for the past few years.
Tad: So...wait. You think if you...hang out with some Salem West kids, you might learn more?
Tad: Why don't you just ask Mia yourself? I mean, actually, wait. Never mind--dumb question. You've already asked her, right?
Will: Yeah, no, and if I ask her again...I don't know. I don't want her to feel like I'm...checking up on her or something.
Tad: I mean, which...you kinda are. [Laughs]
Will: You know what, forget it, T. I think Mia has a right to her privacy. Plus...I think I know everything I need to know.
Chad: Hey, Mia. Feeling okay?
Mia: Fine. Why?
Chad: I'm just thinking. It's gotta be a bitch for you.
Mia: Am I supposed to know what you're talking about?
Chad: I found out something... about you.
Mia: Found out...
Chad: After we broke up... now I know why you suddenly had to leave school.
Stefano: I was just telling Nicole how I was setting up a trust fund for Sydney... my precious little granddaughter.
Nicole: And, uh... and I was just...thanking Stefano... for your generosity. And thank you for everything that you've done for Sydney and everything you're doing for us.
Stefano: No, no, no, it's always a privilege for me to help out my family, hmm? You don't have to go overboard.
Nicole: Uh, EJ, I was thinking about taking Sydney for a walk or maybe to the park. Would you like to join us?
E.J.: No. I've got too much work.
Nicole: Oh. Okay, well... we won't be long then. Say good-bye to your daddy. Bye, Daddy.
E.J.: Bye, sweetheart.
Nicole: Kisses. [Gasps] Let's take your new juicy. Yes. Bye.
E.J.: I'll see you out.
E.J.: What's going on?
Stefano: Pardon me?
E.J.: This little show that you and Nicole are putting on. Something is amiss.
Stefano: Amiss. You sound so Shakespearean. I am telling Nicole about a trust fund that I am setting up, and you are suspicious?
E.J.: Oh, no, no, no. This is about a lot more than telling her about a trust fund. Sydney already has a trust fund and Nicole already knows about it, okay? That is not news to her!
Stefano: Well, obviously, it was... because she was not only surprised, but she was delighted.
E.J.: No! The two of you are thick as thieves for days now. So why don't you tell me exactly what is going on.
Arianna: No, no, Brady, I told you it's on the house.
Brady: No, nope. No way.
Arianna: Come on, it's the least I can do.
Brady: It's okay. I'll see you.
Arianna: Brady, wait. Listen, I meant what I said. I really do want to start over with you. I hate that it's gotten so weird and awkward.
Brady: Arianna, look, you--you... explained to me why it has, okay? It's because of my past. I get it.
Arianna: Yeah, I know I said that.
Brady: Changing your mind or what?
Arianna: Yeah. No. Anyway, I mean...I just... I figured it's just kind of a cowardly way to live.
Arianna: In fear of getting hurt.
Brady: Well, maybe for you it's just not worth taking a chance on us, you know? 'Cause the...feelings aren't strong enough for you.
Arianna: You think that's it?
Brady: Do you?
Arianna: Maybe. Probably. In order to take that kind of risk, the feelings have to be powerful, right? Like something you...you can't control.
Brady: Like you're feeling right now?
Arianna: What? No. I don't think so.
Brady: You wanna test it?
Arianna: Test it? What--what do you mean?
Sami: You have been up there forever. Any progress?
Rafe: Yeah. I'm almost there.
Sami: Whew. You know what, I'm gonna get some iced tea, okay? I'll be right back.
Rafe: Hey, Sami, I think I fixed it. All right, so hold the ladder. I'm coming back down.
Sami: Rafe, did you say something?
Mia: How do you know why I had to leave school? I barely told anyone.
Chad: I still can't believe it. After everything you put me through? You were on my case all the time about getting high. Then you end up in rehab?
Mia: So...so that's what you're talking about. You're talking about me going to rehab.
Had: Well, what else would I be talking about?
Stefano: Let it go, son.
No. No, I'm not letting this go.
Stefano: [Exhales] Very well. I suppose it's foolish of Nicole and I to...think we could keep this from you. I mean, actually... your finding out is for the best.
Would you just say it, please?
Stefano: There is a reason... that Nicole and I... have formed a union, Elvis, and that reason is your daughter.
Mia: I don't get what the big deal is. I got caught up in the wrong scene, that's all.
Chad: So what were you using? Pills? Oxy, Xanax, what?
Mia: All of it. Whatever I could find.
Chad: Wow. Never saw that coming. You wouldn't try anything when we were going out.
Mia: Things changed after you left. I know it wasn't your fault your parents shipped you off after you got busted, but... you never called, Chad. Not once.
Chad: I didn't think you really cared that much.
Mia: Are you kidding, Chad? I...
Mia: Leave me alone.
Chad: Look, you--you're bleeding.
Brady: No, no, no, don't--don't say anything. I gotta go. I have a meeting.
Nicole: Hey, Brady. Everything okay?
Nicole: Mm-hmm. You sure? You seem a little...tense.
Brady: Why would I be tense?
Nicole: I don't know. Maybe I should ask Arianna.
E.J.: Father, what would you and Nicole be keeping from me about my own daughter, after everything I've just been through?
Stefano: Elvis, Elvis, calm... calm down. Hmm? It is about Grace, your other daughter.
E.J.: Well, go on.
Stefano: Nicole and I have seen lately the suffering, the pain. We have seen the anger that you are feeling because of the loss of Grace... how this thing is like... tearing you apart. Well, we are concerned.
E.J.: Well...talk to me about it. I mean, I come into a room, it's all these furtive glances.
Stefano: Yes, fine, but we don't want to add any more pain to your suffering.
E.J.: I see, you just thought it'd be preferable to take me out of the equation altogether, did you, just talk about everything behind my back.
Stefano: Elvis, Elvis... you know that I'd give you the world. You've known that since day one. But... with Nicole, it's different, you know? I mean, I cannot tell you... how overwhelmed with joy I get when I see how she... she is devoted to you. How she is committed to ease your suffering.
E.J.: You're right. [Sighs] She is, she is. It's very hard on her, I think.
Stefano: Because you are suffering, and she understands that.
E.J.: We were having a conversation today earlier... about Samantha and the fact she's got me into her mess again.
Stefano: Ah...listen, don't concern yourself with Samantha, huh? I mean, just get her out of your head.
E.J.: [Laughs] Oh, no problem. Out.
Stefano: All right, all right, look, I understand. It's not so easy for you to do that now...but soon. Because she is going to have her comeuppance... and then she will never torment you again. Of that you can be certain.
Sami: Oh, my God, Rafe! Rafe, oh, my God, please say you're okay! Please! Please be okay!
Rafe: I'm fine. I'm all right.
Rafe: Weren't you...holding the ladder?
Sami: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, I-I--
Rafe: It's okay. I'm okay, I was just--
Sami: Oh, God!
Rafe: Sami, I've had worse falls than that, okay?
Sami: I was just so scared! Rafe, I can't--I can't ever lose you. I can't ever lose...[Sobbing]
Rafe: I'm okay, I'm all right. I'm okay. Hey.
Will: Hey, Mia... hey, what's--what's happening? Why are you bleeding?
Mia: Oh, uh--no, I dropped a cup. I cut my hand when I was picking up the pieces. Anyway, uh, I think there's a first-aid kit in the kitchen.
Chad: Mia and I were talking about how bummed she was when we split up.
Will: The only thing she's bummed about, Chad, is what's going on with her right now...which is you hanging around her all the time.
Chad: I mean, if that's what you wanna think...
Will: No, it's the truth.
Chad: No, she's a great person. That's the truth. And I just don't want to see her throw her life away.
Will: What the hell are you talking about?
Chad: On drugs. I'm praying she doesn't start using them again.
Mia: Okay, so, uh... Evan gave me the rest of the day off. He doesn't want me working with this, so... I guess I'm going home.
Will: I'll--I'll take you.
Mia: It--it's okay. I'm not feeling all that great, so I think it'd be better if I was alone right now.
Chad: Sorry, dude. She's just not that into you.
Brady: Hold it. What are you gonna ask Arianna about?
Nicole: Why you're so tense.
Brady: Which I'm not.
Nicole: I don't know, something's off about her, okay? And her brother.
Brady: Would you care to be specific?
Nicole: I canít. It's just a vibe, like I said.
Brady: Look, I'm sorry, I can't do this right now. I'm late for a meeting, so... I'll see you.
Nicole: Oh...oh, is somebody upset? Hi. Let's go inside, huh? Let's go inside.
Nicole: Hi, Arianna.
Arianna: Hi. What can I get you?
Nicole: Uh...an iced tea would be great, thanks. Hmm. What about you, sweetheart, huh? You want an iced tea?
Arianna: Here you go.
Nicole: Thanks. So, um... does your brother come by here a lot?
Arianna: From time to time. Why do you ask?
Nicole: Well, he's such an interesting guy, you know. He's smart...he has a great sense of humor. You two very close?
Arianna: [Clears throat] Why do you wanna know? You hoping I'll tell you his whole life story?
Nicole: No, I--
Arianna: Good. 'Cause I don't gossip about my brother...to anyone. Got that? Especially not to someone who's got it in for him.
Rafe: Sami, Sami, hey, shh. It's okay. Hey, I'm not going anywhere.
Sami: I know...I know. I-I just--[Sniffling] Just the thought of losing you--
Rafe: Hey... you wonít. Never.
Sami: I know, I just... I just can't help myself, you know? The smallest thing happens, and I freak out. When Johnny trips or something hap... I'm sorry.
Rafe: For what?
Sami: For being like this. For being...sad all the time.
Rafe: Sami...you have every right to be. Okay?
Sami: I just want it to go away. I just want this awful feeling to go away. When is it gonna end?
Rafe: [Whispers] I don't know. I don't think you really get over losing someone. You just... you deal with it better over time.
Sami: How did you deal with losing Emily? I mean... I just have to know how you got through it.
Rafe: You just do. And I thank God every day that I found you... that I found love again. Okay?
Melanie: Arianna. Hey, I got your message. You wanted to talk to me?
Arianna: Yeah, I did. I want you to stay out of my life, okay? Just back the hell off.
Brady: Hey, Maggie.
Maggie: Hey! I was at the market... on this lovely day.
Brady: It is a beautiful day. Do you need some help with those?
Maggie: No, no, actually, they're very light. And you are not a very happy man today.
Brady: Picked up on that, huh?
Maggie: Uh, is it the woman, the, uh, the one that you mentioned to me before?
Brady: Yeah, it is. I took your advice... at first. I put the brakes on her. Then I kind of found myself, I don't know, seeking her out and... kissing her.
Maggie: Oh. And that confused you?
Brady: Yeah. Yeah, it was a big mistake. I mean, you're right. As you told me before, I shouldn't get involved with someone so soon, right now. It's not right, I just-- I won't let it happen. I canít.
Chad: Why do you look so mad?
Will: [Laughs] Mad? No, man, I think it's funny.
Chad: What is?
Will: How cool you think you are.
Chad: Aw, gee... you don't think I'm cool?
Will: Listen, back off of Mia. The last thing she needs right now is you messing with her... so stay the hell away.
Chad: Wow. You are scary, man. Willy boy might be buying Mia's rehab story...but I know better. What's really going on with you, Mia?
Mia: Maybe Maggieís right. Maybe I should keep a journal. I don't know how else to deal with things. Lying's only made it worse. Now people think I was into drugs. Of course, I guess it's better Chad think that than knowing I was pregnant. Wouldn't take him long to figure out he was the father. If he finds out I gave our baby away... it would ruin everything.
Sami: So I was thinking...
Sami: Since you fixed the air conditioning and all, um...
Sami: We're sort of running out of time here before I have to pick up the kids at grandmaís. So I was thinking you could shower, get changed, and I'll drop the clothes off for the twins at Grandmaís. And then we can meet up at my secret spot.
Rafe: All right, sounds like a good plan. Just leave me directions to the secret spot.
Sami: I will leave you very detailed directions.
Sami: Go shower.
Rafe: All right.
Sami: Yikes! [Giggling] Hey, um, Rafe...
Sami: Thanks for helping me through another meltdown.
Rafe: Always. I got your back. Just like you had mine when I was fixing the ac.
Sami: Oh, my God, come on! I went for iced tea--
Rafe: Just hold the ladder-- that's all I asked, really.
Sami: I told you I was going. Next time look before you step.
Nicole: Hey, Daddy. Sydney did the funniest thing I've ever seen when we were out. It was so cute, I-- um...did, uh... something happen while we were out?
E.J.: Father and I have been talking.
E.J.: He told me that you'd been keeping some things from me. He told me what they were.
Nicole: Okay, EJ, before you say another word, please let me explain.
Melanie: Okay. If you're gonna be hostile, I'm gonna find another place to hang my hat.
Arianna: Okay, I just want to know... why'd you do it? Why'd you talk to Brady again?
Melanie: It's not that big of a deal. I just told him how much you liked him.
Arianna: Oh, is that all?
Melanie: It's the truth, isn't it?
Arianna: Okay, you know what? This is not the way things are done, Melanie. It's not junior high.
Melanie: I know that. I'm just trying to help you. You and Brady are perfect together.
Arianna: Brady and I are not gonna happen.
Arianna: [Cell phone rings] I gotta get this.
Arianna: Yeah. Fine, all right? I'll make it happen. Bye.
Melanie: What was that about?
Arianna: Like I'd tell you?
Melanie: Oh, I get it.
Arianna: You get what?
Melanie: The reason you're all mean and grumpy. That's what's keeping you from Brady, huh?
Arianna: For God's sake--
Melanie: No, no, no, no, it's not his just like weird, sketchy past with drugs. There's another element at play here.
Arianna: There's no element at play here, okay? You just like making drama where there is none.
Melanie: And you like thinking I can't tell when someone's lying when the truth is I'm an expert at sniffing out lies, and you just told a whopper.
Arianna: You're right. I did.
Nicole: EJ, I-I never wanted to keep secrets from you. I just want to love you.
E.J.: Please, no. Stop, okay? Not another word, all right? Father told me... he told me how terribly worried the two of you have been... about me...and my demeanor since Grace died.
Nicole: Well, yeah, it's true, um... we're both worried about you.
E.J.: I knew that you empathized. I just... I didn't realize, how... how deeply concerned you'd been for me, and it touches me.
Nicole: I'm glad.
E.J.: But you shouldn't keep secrets.
Nicole: I know. It's just that...
E.J.: I know. It doesn't matter how well-intentioned they are, though. 'Cause in the end, these things come out, one way or another.
Rafe: [Whistling] [Humming] Oh, no. Not there.
Woman: [Sobbing] Emily!
Daniel: There is no other woman for me, Chloe.
Stephanie: You and Melanie have a great time.
Melanie: Where are you, Nathan?
Rafe: To us... and our future together.
