Rafe: You gotta stop reading that.
Sami: It doesn't say that you're her father.
Rafe: Doesn't matter what it says. Here. Eat.
Sami: I can't.
Rafe: Sami, please. I do not want to be carrying you out of the service. Sami, please, you have not eaten since...
Sami: Since she died. Say it... since Grace died.
E.J.: It's as if she didn't even have a father.
Stefano: Shouldn't you be in there with him?
Nicole: He doesn't want to be with me. He only wants to be with Sydney.
Stefano: For once in her live, Samantha Brady decides to tell the truth... at least as she knows the truth... when the best thing would be for her to keep her mouth shut.
Nicole: And now he's mourning a child that wasn't his.
Stefano: As Samantha is...thanks to you, my dear.
Nicole: Yeah, quite an accomplishment.
Mia: I know it's my first day, and I'm really sorry. I-I just can't work until the funeral's over.
Evan: Well, look...this is really sad and everything, but I'm gonna be understaffed for the lunch rush.
Mia: Yeah, well, talk about a tragedy...
Mia: If you don't like it... then fire me. I'm going to that funeral.
Will: Whoa, whoa, hey, Mia, Mia, you don't have to come for my sake.
Mia: I'm not. I'm doing it for me.
Nicole: [Sighs] I've never seen him like this.
Stefano: He thinks he's lost a child. I mean--[Stammers] There is no pain like it.
Nicole: My God, Stefano, if he ever finds out the truth--
Stefano: We have discussed this, Nicole. He is never to find out the truth.
Nicole: Like you said... the pain... how can I let him go on grieving like this?
Stefano: Ah, ah, ah. Because if you don't... there'll be infinitely more grief to come for everybody.
Melanie: Hey, Mia. Listen, I think--oh, jeez! You're not--you're not Mia.
Nathan: [Laughs] Keenly observed. No, I'm not Mia.
Melanie: You're that boy from the hospital, Nathan. Except you're a patient there, aren't you? From the ward with the rubber rooms.
Nathan: If that was the case, shrewd move to point it out. What if I became agitated?
Melanie: Okay. You're the one that likes to pretend you're a doctor, so...
Nathan: I'm obsessed with the candy with stripes.
Melanie: Are you? That's great. I'll be sure to send you some when you're in the big house with the other perverts.
Nathan: You're pretty... [Laughs] But you're a real idiot.
Rafe: Sami, the service is gonna be hard, and if you don't take care of yourself...
Sami: I just...I will, okay? I will later. I just can't right now. I can't.
Rafe: You want me to talk to him?
Rafe: Yeah. I'll make him understand that... this day's gonna be hard enough for you without him being there.
Sami: We can't tell him not to be there. He has every right.
Sami: Rafe, please don't.
Rafe: Don't what?
Sami: I know what that okay means. It means...you're gonna go behind my back, try to take care of me no matter what I say. And I-I don't want you to do that.
Rafe: He doesn't need to be there, Sami. This day's gonna be hard enough as it is.
Sami: There's nothing we can do. I know you want to, but you can't fix this. There's nothing we can do to make this better. We just have to get through it. We just have to get through it.
Nicole: Can I get you something?
Nicole: Why did she tell you? Why did she put you through this pain?
E.J.: Whether she told me or not doesn't change the fact that my daughter's dead.
Nicole: Don't say that.
Nicole: E.J.... you can't keep grieving like this. She... Grace wasn't--
E.J.: She wasn't what, Nicole? What are you trying to tell me?
Hope: I miss you so much, Zack. You look after Grace. Okay?
Melanie: Don't...move, weirdo.
Nathan: Don't move? Why would I move? I just got here. I mean, it's got everything I need, a down-filled mattress, a room with a view, wi-fi, a fridge full of goodies. It's even got a built-in candy striper.
Melanie: [Laughs] Yeah. Give me back my phone, please.
Nathan: You know, you should really start practicing giving orders. [Falsetto] "Don't move?" "Give me back my phone?" I mean, they sound more like-- more like questions than commands. I mean, deepen your voice. I wanna hear some conviction, authority.
Melanie: Shut up!
Nathan: Marginally better. Um...but we'll work on it.
Melanie: Give me back my phone.
Nathan: I, uh, I've never seen one of these before. Is it brand-new?
Melanie: Hand over my phone.
Nathan: I bet it's got all kinds of crazy functions on it. You should show me some time.
Melanie: Show you what?
Nathan: I got an idea. Let's, uh, let's go upstairs and...I'll let you look at my view, and you can demonstrate a couple of functions.
Melanie: Yeah? You're a pervert.
Nathan: [Laughs] Come on, it'll be fun.
Melanie: No. I, uh, think I'm gonna stay here. Thank you, though.
Nathan: You sure?
Sami: Promise me you won't do anything, okay? Promise. I love you...and I know this is killing you too.
Rafe: I have to tell myself that she's gone. I keep waiting to hear her voice in the next room. Oh, this isn't real...
Sami: But it is. It is real.
Evan: All right, look, I'll cover for you. Just work as long as you can now, and come back as soon as possible.
Mia: Thanks, Evan. I'm sorry I went off on you.
Evan: It's a really bad day. Just, uh...forget about it, okay?
Will: So...you're going to the--
Mia: Yeah. I just have to work before and after. You're going, right?
Mia: So then where's your tie?
Will: I...I forgot. I--
Mia: Well, then go back and get it.
Will: I think I'll wait till my mom leaves for the church.
Mia: You still haven't talked to her, have you?
Will: No. Hey!
Mia: Will, five messages?
Will: Oh, my God.
Mia: Call her back.
Will: Why do you care so much?
Mia: Because you're lucky enough to have a family. And you should be going through this together. She needs you right now. She's so nice and--
Will: Okay, look, Mia, you don't know her. You don't know my mom at all.
Sami: Come on, Will, answer the phone. Voicemail. Again.
Rafe: You want me to go find him?
Sami: You want to do something, don't you? Anything...just to do it.
Rafe: I'll answer the door. How 'bout that? Want me to send away whoever it is?
Sami: No, it's okay. Can't hide.
Rafe: Commander Brady.
Roman: Sweetheart, how you doing?
Sami: Hi, Daddy. Not good. Not good.
E.J.: Grace wasn't what, Nicole?
Nicole: She... you never bonded with her.
E.J.: Because I was denied the chance. Does that mean I shouldn't grieve? Huh?
E.J.: Does that mean she didn't matter?
Nicole: I would never say that.
E.J.: No. I'd very careful what you say to me right now.
Nicole: E.J., don't you see... I'm thinking of you. You... you've been dealt this--
E.J.: [Slams bottle]
Nicole: You've been dealt this terrible blow, and I'm just trying to say that... that you have Sydney.
E.J.: One daughter... does not make up for the loss of another. And I'm not just grieving... for the loss of my daughter Grace. I'm also grieving because I was robbed of the chance to spend any time with her!
Nicole: I understand that.
E.J.: And that woman... she lied about that child, lied to that child's father!
Nicole: E.J., maybe--
E.J.: Nothing that my father did, ever...amounted to that.
Nicole: I am so sorry.
E.J.: You don't need to be sorry. Samantha's gonna be sorry. Very sorry. For the rest of her life.
Melanie: So I think you should know that I don't--
Nathan: That you have a black belt in karate? That I should be scared, very scared?
Melanie: No. That I don't need a phone to call 911, because I can scream so loud.
Nathan: Hmm. Okay. Let me ask you this: If I was a perv... which you so eloquently put it, would I really shower before perving? I mean, would I really freshen up beforehand?
Melanie: I don't know! Would you, pervert?
Nathan: I'm welcome here. Very welcome. In fact, to quote Maggie, "Make yourself at home, Nathan."
Melanie: Okay, so Maggie likes to take in strays off the street.
Nathan: Yeah. I'll bet you know that from experience.
Melanie: But that does not mean you get to walk around in her kitchen and--put that down! Whoo! You're such a pig!
Nathan: Mm, cinnamon! I am such a sucker for cinnamon.
Melanie: Those are for the hospital luncheon charity. Maggie stayed up all night making those.
Nathan: I know--she told me to help myself.
Melanie: Ha ha. Yeah, right. Look, Maggie wouldn't even let me lick the bowl, so I really doubt that she's gonna let some stranger just waltz on in here and go to town on all the doughnuts that she's been--
Maggie: Oh, I see the two of you have already met.
Maggie: How's the doughnut?
Nathan: Oh, the best ever!
Maggie: [Laughs] Well, I know that I am no match for Alice’s, but everyone always wants Horton doughnuts at the annual luncheon. Uh, would you share that with Melanie? I was a little grumpy with her last night.
Nathan: Oh, Grandma...do I gotta?
Melanie: [Laughs] I'm sorry. Grandma?
Stephanie: Grandma! What are you doing here?
Caroline: Came to see how you're doing.
Stephanie: Me? I-I'm fine!
Stephanie: Yeah. You should be worrying about Sami, not me.
Caroline: I will worry about whomever I feel like worrying about, young lady. Where's Philip?
Stephanie: He had business in Chicago.
Caroline: And I shouldn't worry? You just came back from a couple of days in the morgue. And you're going to the funeral of little Grace, and you're alone... in this mausoleum because he has business? I just have this sinking feeling… déjà vu. And you're not even married yet!
Stephanie: Okay, Grandma, just stop, okay? Please, just stop.
Bo: You sure you can do this?
Hope: When I remember...Zack's funeral... I was in such a daze. It was like some horrible... horrible dream. I don't even know if I was alive that day. But I can still point to where everyone sat. It meant so much to me that everyone was here. She needs to see that we're here. She needs to see that she can survive this.
Bo: God help her get through this day.
Sami: Dad, I know you're mad at me.
Roman: Not today. We're not gonna do that today, okay?
Sami: I mean, everyone is. Everyone thinks I'm horrible for what I've done.
Roman: You were under a lot of pressure. You weren't thinking straight, and my guess is... you got some really bad advice.
Sami: Dad, please, Rafe--
Sami: I'm gonna go deal with that. Um...please don't be mad at Rafe.
Roman: That I can't promise.
Rafe: Commander Brady, can I talk to you for a second?
Roman: What, you want to give me your side of the story? Is that it? You want to tell me you didn't manipulate her?
Rafe: Okay, Sami’s gonna be back in a second. I'd like to talk to you before she returns. Now...I'm worried about today. About E.J..
E.J.: So...are you on board with it?
Nicole: Of course I am.
Nicole: You're right. Sami's life is gonna be a living hell.
Kinsey: Guess who I bumped into. Guess who was asking all about you.
Mia: Oh, my God! Who?
Kinsey: Does the name Chad...ring a bell?
Will: Uh...what's going on here?
Stephanie: Look, I know you're upset. I-I understand. But you cannot talk about Philip like that.
Caroline: I was hoping you hadn't seen this.
Stephanie: That's why you're here?
Caroline: What did Philip or Victor say about this?
Stephanie: They said that there's no way Owen could ever get near me again.
Caroline: Oh, sure, they're so good at their word too. I'm sorry, darling. I'm sorry.
Stephanie: Look, grandma, it's a horrible day. You should be worrying about Sami, not me.
Caroline: I am worrying about Sami and you. Darling, I don't think you should go to the service today.
Stephanie: What? I have to! For Sami.
Caroline: What happens when Sami sees you face E.J.?
E.J.: All right. I'm gonna take Sydney upstairs, get her ready.
Nicole: Ready--ready for what?
E.J.: Well, for the funeral.
Nicole: No, E.J., she can't go! She can't!
Rafe: So I'm worried that EJ’s gonna show up at the funeral today and try and make things worse for Sami. Now, I told her that I would talk to him about staying away.
Roman: Oh, that's a great plan. That's a great plan. I'm sure you are just the guy he wants to take advice from.
Rafe: [Laughs] Yeah, exactly. So, uh, you think that maybe you could do something to help?
Roman: Well, I guarantee you this. E.J. is not gonna bother Sami.
Sami: Uh, Johnny.. was upset. He...he wanted to know where Grace was.
Roman: [Whispers] Sweetheart.
Sami: [Sniffling] Um... hey, listen, you know, I was thinking about it. There is something you can do to help. Father Matt has all these questions and I... and I just don't know if I can handle it.
Rafe: No--no problem. I'll take care of it.
Sami: [Whispering] Thank you.
Roman: I wasn't gonna hit him or anything.
Sami: I saw you glaring at him, Dad. Don't think I didn't notice.
Roman: I'm sorry. I am sorry about that. I really am.
Sami: Rafe's only crime is seeing why I didn't want Grace being raised a DiMera. I just didn't want... my daughter... with E.J. while he's planning Philip’s assassination.
Roman: Look, I get that, all right? I mean, I understand why you didn't tell E.J.. I just don't understand why you and Rafe didn't tell me.
Sami: Dad, you always talk about how you have to get them by the book. And I just...don't have a lot of faith in the legal system right now.
Sami: Dad...I know what I'm in for. I know...that EJ’s gonna come after me. I'm sad...for my little girl. But I'm...scared... I'm scared about what he's gonna do. And I'm so glad I did what I did.
Maggie: So, uh, did you introduce yourself to Melanie?
Nathan: I, uh, didn't really get a chance. She decided that I was delusional, an imposter, a perv.
Melanie: I was scared.
Nathan: Do me a favor. Vouch for me. Let her know that I'm entirely trustworthy.
Maggie: Well, I think the jury is-- is still out on that. But he will be doing his internship here. So the two of you will be seeing a lot of each other here and at the hospital.
Melanie: Actually, we won’t.
Melanie: Um... I was gonna tell you this at dinner, but I'm moving to London with Max.
Will: Kinsey...you know where we're going today? Mia and I? My sister's funeral. So you know how angry it makes me that you're still slinging this mean, stupid crap on a day like this? You know how much I wish I had a baseball bat in my hand right now?
Mia: Will, stop.
Evan: Something wrong here?
Kinsey: There certainly is.
Caroline: Victor takes Stefano, and Philip’s fiancée is abducted. I mean, that's just a wild coincidence, huh?
Stephanie: I'm going to that service. I don't want to let Sami down.
Caroline: I don't know how you got to be so stubborn.
Stephanie: You know what, Grandma? I'm gonna look E.J. right in the eye and let him know I'm not scared.
Caroline: Even though, of course, E.J. had nothing to do with what happened to you.
Stephanie: Just in case he did.
Roman: Sami... are you sure you want to pack this all up now...I mean, if at all? Your grandma and I can come back here later and get this packed up.
Sami: Dad, I just want to do it, okay? I don't want to come back.
Roman: All right, well... we have had some cutbacks down at the station. I do have a rookie cop whose wife just had a baby, so... I'm sure that they could use all this stuff.
Sami: It's nice knowing it'll go to someone who can... who can use it.
Roman: We should, uh...should think about going.
Sami: I know. [Clears throat] I can do this. I can do this.
Nicole: You are not taking Sydney to the service. She needs her nap.
E.J.: She can sleep in my arms.
Nicole: She won’t. I stand by you 100%. However you want to deal with Sami, I am there... with one exception.
Nicole: We keep Sydney out of it. I don't want her used as a weapon. I don't want her dragged to the church as a means for you to hurt Sami.
E.J.: I-I just--I can't let her out of my sight right now.
Nicole: Well, you're gonna have to. It wouldn't be right for her, and it certainly...wouldn't be right for Grace. And besides... after you say good-bye to her... you're gonna have to deal with S-- with Sami, right? And that's gonna take all your concentration.
E.J.: Yes. You're right.
Nicole: And then after that... it'll just be the three of us. And Sami will be out of our lives forever.
Maggie: I didn't, um... I didn't know you were thinking about leaving.
Melanie: Well, Max is the reason I came here in the first place. So since he's gonna be gone...
Maggie: I'm gonna miss you.
Melanie: Oh! I'm gonna miss you too! You've been so sweet to me, it's just--it’s...hard living in a place where nobody likes you.
Nathan: How'd that come about? You know, you making such a great first impression and--
Melanie: It's a pity I won't get to know you better.
Maggie: Honey, this is your decision. And I know how much family means to you, but...
Melanie: But what?
Maggie: I hope you're going to something...and not just running away.
Kinsey: Now, I'm not a person who likes to complain--
Will: You know what, actually it was--it was all my fault. I-I got mad at her, and, uh, Mia was just trying to calm things down. So...I'm sorry. It won't happen again.
Will: You better get your act together...
Kinsey: Or what?
Mia: Go home, get your tie, okay? Forget about her.
Will: You're a real bottom-feeder, you know that, Kinsey?
Kinsey: Mia... I guess it's your hard-luck life, but...boys just seem to need to protect you.
Mia: I think that coffee should be to go.
Kinsey: Oh, Mia. [Giggles] Clearly, you don't want the follow-up question, but... I gotta ask. I say Chad, and you freak out. Why?
Sami: Daddy, I made so many mistakes. I have...done so many things wrong.
Roman: You were under way too much pressure.
Sami: And I don't think Will is ever gonna find a way to forgive me.
Roman: You just let me handle Will.
Sami: He has a right to be angry, Dad. Don't tell him not to be.
Roman: Hey, at 16 years old, you think you know everything. We've all been there.
Sami: Yeah, well, I was hardly a perfect mother before this.
Roman: No one is perfect. But no one can say you didn't always put him first.
Sami: Somehow, I don't think Will is gonna see it that way. I think what's happened with Grace is, uh, gonna be the last straw for him.
Bo: You know, since, um, DiMeras are gonna be in attendance, I'm gonna check security.
Hope: Oh, no, they're not gonna try anything today, not--not during a funeral.
Bo: Doesn't hurt to be safe.
Rafe: I didn't mean to interrupt.
Hope: I know. You, um...you probably don't know this...but Bo and I lost our little boy in an accident. I understand what you're going through.
Rafe: I'm so sorry, I... what was his name?
Hope: Isaac Beauregard Brady. We called him Zack.
Rafe: That's a hell of a name.
Hope: He was... an amazing child. Look, um... about Bo, I mean, sometimes he can be a little hard-nosed on other guys.
Rafe: [Chuckles] Well... he's not alone. Sami's father doesn't seem to think too highly of me either.
Hope: Don't let him get to you. Sami's gonna need you, Rafe... really need you the next few months.
Rafe: I know that. So Commander Brady doesn't seem to have much use for me, uh... nor does your husband. So why are you on my side?
Hope: Because I saw you when you walked in here. I could see that you loved Grace just as much as she did.
E.J.: Hey. Father, come on, you have to get ready.
Stefano: I'm not going.
E.J.: Why not?
Stefano: Well...I don't see any reason why I should.
Maggie: It's too bad the two of you won't get to know each other. You both work at the hospital.
Melanie: Ah. Work...ed.
Maggie: Uh, yeah, worked. But you both lived in France.
Nathan: [Speaks French] Tu parles francais?
Melanie: Ah, oui, oui! Je ne suis pas dans la piscine.
Maggie: Oh! That is such a beautiful language. What did she say?
Nathan: She's not in the swimming pool.
Melanie: Well, I can also say Je suis dans la piscine.
Nathan: Oh, she is in the swimming pool.
Melanie: Yeah, well, with those two sentences, I can accurately describe any moment of my life, so you know... didn't you love France? I mean, I think the thing I'm gonna love most about London is how close it is to get to Paris.
Nathan: You lived in Paris?
Melanie: Uh...no. I never lived there.
Nathan: Oh. I had an apartment. Uh...[Laughs] It was more like a closet. In Montmartre. If I stood on the bidet and craned my neck, I could see Sacre-Coeur.
Melanie: [Softly] Wow. A room with a view.
Nathan: Well, something like that. It's just Americans cannot get into med school over there, or else I never would have come back.
Melanie: You gave up Paris to save lives?
Nathan: Yeah, well, you know--it was a toss-up. Sorry. Powdered sugar.
Maggie: A practice move if I ever saw one.
Nathan: Hey, look at the time. I gotta go. Um...enjoy London, and I hope you don't have too much trouble with the language.
Maggie: So...ha. When are you, uh, going?
Melanie: Uh...I don't know. I mean, there's no rush...right?
Rafe: [Cries out] Oh...
Father Matt: You all right, son?
Rafe: [Sniffling] I don't know.
Father Matt: That's an honest answer.
Rafe: Well, father, I was, uh... I was-- I was an angry guy... and now there’s...Grace. [Sighs] You know, maybe I shouldn't be here right now.
Father Matt: And why not?
Rafe: Why? Because, um...[Sniffs] 'Cause this is important to Sami. Her faith is important.
Father Matt: Mm...and yours?
Rafe: It's just, uh... I can't believe that... God... would let Grace die, and I don't know if I can ever forgive him for that.
Mia: I didn't freak out, Kinsey. I dropped a cup.
Kinsey: At the sound of his name.
Mia: I don't even remember any Chet or...whatever you said.
Kinsey: Chad. And methinks the lady doth protest too much.
Will: Uh, Mia reminded me I forgot my tie, so I...came back here.
Will: Hi, Grandpa.
Sami: He won't even look at me.
E.J.: Father, you're not going to go to my daughter's funeral?
Stefano: Elvis, I understand what you are saying. It's just...I don't think I could cope with it, you see? I mean, it's just... too soon after losing Anthony.
Nicole: It’s... it's okay, honey.
E.J.: I-I understand, I'm not... I'm not angry.
Stefano: And if the truth were known, I don't think I could face all those sanctimonious Bradys.
Nicole: I understand that.
Stefano: But I did... I did send a condolence card to Samantha.
E.J.: You did what?
Stefano: Yes, yes, look... there is no pain, as I've said before, like losing a child and...Elvis, she did lose a child.
E.J.: So did I, Father. And I never got to know that child.
Stefano: Yes. And I understand... that is something will haunt you for the rest of your life. [Exhales] See, I prefer to concentrate on the future. See our beautiful Sydney... your perfect, perfect daughter. Mm. You're beautiful. Yes.
Sami: So be good for Mrs. Saunderson, okay? I'm so lucky to have you and your sister.
Roman: You know, uh, Sami...
Sami: I know, I know. Hey, so listen to me. I have to go right now, but I'm gonna come home and then you and me and your sister, we're gonna play together...all afternoon, okay? It'll just be us.
Melanie: Hey. Uh...you'll be happy to know I've had a change of heart. How does one go about un-quitting their job?
Maxine: Don't get your hopes up.
Melanie: But it was your warmth and compassion that got me to change my mind.
Maxine: And your deep, intense desire to help others? Now...what really made you change your mind? Or should I say who?
Caroline: You really think that you're up to this?
Caroline: [Exhales] Darling, you shouldn't minimize your own feelings. You've been through a terrible ordeal.
Stephanie: It's okay now, grandma. The Kiriakises and the DiMeras have finally agreed to put the feud to rest. Brady thinks they're men of their word and that it'll last.
Caroline: I hope and pray you're right.
Stephanie: Me too.
E.J.: She's gonna pay.
Nicole: Not now, honey, let's--
E.J.: The arrogance! I can't even remember what she looks like. This... this is what I have.
Melanie: Max, I don't think I'm gonna go to London.
Nicole: What I did was right for EJ and for Sydney.
Rafe: You can make it through this, ok? I'm here for you.
EJ: You're lucky to be alive.
Stephanie: Don't you ever even think of threatening me again!
