Stefano: Not even God can help you now, Nicole.
Nicole: Stefano, I-I don't know what you're talking about. I just came to pray for Sami's baby.
Stefano: Sami's baby? But, uh, Sami's baby is fine.
Nicole: What? No.
Stefano: Yes. You see, that child that is out there in the hospital -- that sweet, innocent child fighting for her life -- is not Sami's baby at all. And you, of all people, Nicole, should know that... since you have Sami's real baby.
Nicole: Apparently you came out of that coma delusional.
Stefano: I knew months ago that you were hiding something, Nicole, and I told you, more than once, my dear, you cannot keep secrets from me, especially in my own home.
Nicole: I should call Lexie. I-I think -- I think you need your insulin checked.
Stefano: Don't try to be clever... or cute, Nicole. The game is over. I know everything, and I do mean everything.
E.J.: So, what exactly is it that...
Sami: It's about Grace and, um, her birth -- Dr. Jonas. How is she?
Daniel: Well, she is very sick, Sami. What your daughter is fighting is much more serious than we initially suspected.
Sami: What is it?
Daniel: Well, she has bacterial meningitis.
Sami: Okay. Okay. So you -- you give her antibiotics.
Daniel: Yeah, we have. We have -- powerful ones.
Sami: Good. Good. Then -- then she'll be okay.
Sami: You don't think -- you don't think she's gonna make it, do you?
Nicole: Stefano, please. A child's life is in danger. W-we're in a house of God. Could you please take your lie somewhere else?
Stefano: Like the convent of the holy cross? Like the clinic of the almighty dollar? I know about you... and your baby... Sami and Sami's baby, Mia and Mia's baby, and Dr. Baker. I mean, you know, jump right in whenever you want.
Nicole: Oh, I feel sorry for you. This is your idea of fun?
Stefano: I feel sorry for you. You know, there was a time that I-I almost was rooting for you, because it was so dangerous and such a brilliant improvisation. I mean, all designed to bag my son and his money.
Nicole: I love E.J. I swear to God.
Stefano: Yeah, that might even be true. But what does it matter now? Not after all these lies.
Will: All right. I think I got everything. Hey, you're crying.
Mia: I'm sorry. It's just she's so little, you know? [Sighs]
Will: Yeah. And she's gonna be all right, okay?
Will: Look, her f-- her fever will come down and she'll be home tomorrow, okay?
Mia: Yeah. No, I know. You're right. [Chuckles] And you know now [Sniffles] when I think about babies getting adopted, I will always picture them in wonderful homes like yours, with moms like your mom and brothers like you. Grace is a really lucky girl.
Will: S-she is.
Daniel: Look, it wouldn't be right for me to tell you anything but the truth... but we are very, very concerned about Grace, but let's just wait. Let's just wait and see how the antibiotics do.
Sami: I don't understand how this happened. I mean, I-I-I take good care of my daughter, you know -- I-I do. And -- and it's not --
E.J.: Everybody knows you're a wonderful mother -- everybody.
Sami: But -- but she's been having these fevers for -- for a while now, and I just thought she was teething. I mean, if I had known that -- that it could be something else, I would -- I would have brought her in. I would have done something. I would -- I would have --
E.J.: That's the luckiest baby in the world, to have a mother like you. Uh, Dr. Jonas, Samantha was just, uh, talking to me about Grace's, uh, birth parents. Should I be looking for them? Would that help in any way?
Sami: [Cries softly]
Daniel: Sami? Sami, you all right? Hey --
Sami: [Gasps] Rafe! Rafe!
Rafe: What -- what's going on? What's happening?
Sami: [Crying] It's our -- it's our baby. It's Grace.
Stephanie: You know what's nice?
Philip: Being here with you?
Stephanie: This. Without you getting shot. I'm really looking forward to when I don't connect the two.
Philip: You know how we do that? More repetition of this... without the, you know -- that.
Stephanie: So this is therapeutic?
Philip: Yeah. I'm only looking out for you.
Stephanie: See, if I can joke about it...I'm 10 times better. But...
Philip: But what?
Stephanie: I know I'm home now and I'm safe and everything, but I don't think it's over.
Philip: I mean, Owen's in jail. He cannot hurt you.
Stephanie: Owen was just like everyone else -- caught up in the middle of this war between your family and the DiMeras. But, Philip, that hasn't ended.
Philip: Yes, it has. You're back. Stefano's back. It's all good.
Stephanie: They kidnapped me for payback. I'm free now. You think they're gonna let that go?
Nicole: [Exhales deeply] How long have you known?
Nicole: This is funny?
Stefano: You don't care how long I've known. It doesn't make any difference how long -- huh? -- Because all you are trying to do is bide your time so you can regroup.
Nicole: Actually, Stefano, I do care. I was wondering... for example, if you knew about this when Victor held you hostage, when I was standing by E.J., an accessory to kidnapping -- a federal offense. When I helped your son do whatever it took to get you back, I laid it on the line for you and your precious family... when I knew your deepest, darkest secrets.
Stefano: I really, really love you.
Nicole: Well, that makes me all warm and runny inside.
Stefano: I mean, my goodness. [Chuckles] Your whole life is crumbling around you, and you come out swinging with your chin stuck out.
Nicole: My life is not crumbling, and I am not afraid of you.
Stefano: Not to be afraid of me is stupid... and you are not stupid.
Nicole: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe it was the coma or the humiliation of being bested by Victor.
Stefano: Be careful.
Nicole: But you've lost your touch. You've tipped your hand.
Stefano: I can tip whatever I want. I hold all the trumps.
Nicole: Let me ask you a question.
Nicole: Why are you telling me all of this and not E.J.?
Daniel: And so, as I was saying to Sami, we are just waiting, hoping, praying that the antibiotics do their job.
Rafe: Damn it. I should have been here.
Sami: No. No. You're here now. That's all that matters.
Daniel: Sami moved quickly, got her down here right away, and it has been really helpful.
Sami: Is she in pain?
Daniel: Well, she's not comfortable, but since the seizures are over, she's more, I would say, lethargic than in pain.
Sami: And what about the fevers? I mean --
Daniel: Well, here is something we know about those other fevers. Your daughter is a fighter.
Rafe: I know where she gets that from.
E.J.: Doctor... you're sure that it wouldn't do any good to find the birth parents?
Daniel: You know what? I don't think we need to worry about that now that we have a diagnosis, but, like I said, let's just wait. We're gonna wait and see how the antibiotics do. I'm gonna go check on her now, and I'll keep you posted.
Sami: Thank you.
Rafe: Thank you. It's okay. It's gonna be okay. It is. Okay?
E.J.: Look, I'm gonna leave you two alone, but, uh, if you need anything, Samantha -- anything -- you just let me know.
Sami: Thanks. Thanks.
E.J.: Listen, I heard what Dr. Jonas said about waiting for the medication to take effect. But if you decide you want to look for the biological parents, the DiMera family has ways. Do you want to try?
Stefano: We both know that Elvis has been under tremendous pressure lately, so it simply was not the time to tell him.
Nicole: And I guess you would know all about that since you were the one applying the pressure. And you know that Sydney and I are E.J.'s world.
Stefano: But it's all a big, fat lie.
Nicole: [Sighs] And you're so devoted to the truth? Okay. Well, here's a little truth for you. I did this for E.J. I don't give a damn about you and your money. I love E.J., and he loves his children, and, thanks to me, he is raising his own daughter.
Stefano: But not yours.
Nicole: It doesn't matter. Sydney and I are E.J.'s family. If you tell E.J. the truth, his world will fall apart. And along with Tony's death, that will be on your hands.
Sami: I, uh, have to talk to E.J. for a second, okay?
Sami: I, uh -- I really appreciate you saying that, uh, that you want to help me and -- and my baby. But when I was talking to you before, I-I think I was just grasping at straws, you know? Dr. Jonas said that the birth parents... can't help, and, um... and I think if they knew that she was sick, I think -- I think it would have made things worse.
Rafe: Okay. Come here. [Smooches] I'll be praying for you.
Sami: Thanks. [Sighs]
Rafe: You think there's something that E.J. can do... to help Grace? That's her father.
Sami: Dr. Jonas said there wasn't. I almost told him.
Rafe: I know you did.
Sami: And Will's always going on about how if we knew more about Grace's biological parents it would be good, you know, and -- and then Dr. Jonas said that and I thought...
Rafe: Don't, okay. It's okay. You don't have to explain.
Sami: I would have said it, okay?
Rafe: I know.
Sami: I would have if I thought it would help her.
Rafe: I know. Okay.
Sami: But you know what? I think he just has to tell us the worst-case scenario, right? I mean, he's a doctor. But I think that Dr. Jonas thinks Grace is gonna be okay, 'cause he said that she's a fighter, right? He wouldn't say that if he thought something was gonna go wrong. He thinks she's gonna be okay. I know he does.
Philip: [Sighs] You are not going to get dragged back into this, I promise you. This isn't your fight.
Stephanie: I'm gonna be a Kiriakis. Of course it's my fight.
Philip: Well, maybe we've realized how stupid this fight really is. Maybe we'll just let it go.
Stephanie: Stefano? Victor? I'm not holding my breath.
Philip: Hey, I don't want you to worry. I'll protect you. I promise.
Stephanie: What about you, Philip? If something ever happened to you, I don't know what I'd do.
Philip: Then we'll just have to make sure nothing happens. I don't want you to worry about anything... except how much I love you.
Stefano: I would be very, very careful if I were you.
Nicole: You don't want to talk about Tony. I-I get that. But what about Sami?
Nicole: If I didn't do this, she would have kept E.J.'s daughter from him forever.
Stefano: [Sighs] If word of this ever gets out -- and I am living proof of that, hmm -- what would happen... if Samantha discovers the truth and files for custody of Sydney?
Nicole: She doesn't know, and she never will.
Stefano: There is no way for you to guarantee that. The problem, well -- [Chuckles] the problem for you is that Elvis would never be able to beat Samantha in a custody battle if he is married to the perpetrator of the fraud.
Nicole: This is your problem, too, Stefano. You don't want to lose Sydney any more than I do.
Stefano: That's right. And if Samantha takes that baby, there will be hell to pay. And who gets that bill?
E.J.: What are you two talking about?
Will: Hey, Dr. Jonas, is -- is my mom around?
Daniel: Oh, hey, Will. No, she's in with Grace.
Will: Grace -- is she all right? I mean, she's getting better, right?
Daniel: Well, we're waiting right now, will, to see how the antibiotics do.
Will: Wait, you're saying they might not work?
Daniel: Well, it is bacterial meningitis. It's a serious condition.
Will: M-meningitis? But, I mean, she's gonna be okay, right? I mean, she's not gonna die, is she?
Daniel: We do not know that for sure, Will.
Sami: Hey, baby girl. Your mommy and your daddy are here.
Rafe: You having a nice, little sleep there, are you?
Sami: Oh, yeah, she is. I bet that's helping her get better, too.
Rafe: Oh, yeah. Of course. Just like all the other times, right?
Sami: Yeah. You know what? Look what I have.
Sami: Yeah. That's gonna help you, too... because -- because God's not gonna let anything happen to his sweet, little angel.
Sami: [Crying] [Breathing heavily]
Sami: [Gasps] [Breathing heavily]
Nicole: E.J., I didn't hear you come in.
E.J.: Are you all right? You look like you've been crying.
Stefano: I, uh, came here, ineffectually it seems, to, uh, comfort Nicole. She is distraught about Samantha's baby.
Nicole: Uh, I was praying. [Exhales deeply] Have you heard anything more?
E.J.: Um, it's bacterial meningitis. Daniel wasn't very reassuring.
Nicole: But she's not going to -- [Exhales sharply] Oh, my God.
E.J.: I know. I keep thinking about Samantha. It just goes over and over in my head that, uh, it could be Sydney.
Nicole: Are they gonna do the genetic tests?
E.J.: No. They don't need to -- not now. They have a diagnosis. What are you doing out of bed? Hmm?
Stefano: I came here to repent.
E.J.: Did you? Um, sweetheart, would you mind? I'd like to talk to father alone for a second.
Nicole: Uh, of course. Uh, I'll get that coffee I was going for. Uh, Stefano, uh... take care of yourself. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you.
E.J.: [Clears throat]
Stefano: You have a remarkable wife there.
E.J.: I got a text message. We have a problem.
Mia: So stupid. God, I keep doing this.
Will: I know. It -- it's okay.
Mia: No. No, it's not. This is happening to your family, not to me.
Will: Mia, you loved Grace before I did. I mean, it doesn't -- it doesn't matter that you're not related to her.
Mia: I'm -- I'm gonna go wash my face. I don't want your mom to have to deal with this. I'll be back in a minute, okay?
Will: All right.
Daniel: You okay?
Will: Yeah, I-I guess. I just hate that there's nothing I can do.
Daniel: Well, actually, there is.
Sami: You know, when I first came back to Salem with her... I told Lucas that -- that my baby had died. That's what I said. Do you think that -- do you think that God --
Rafe: No, Sami. Stop. And look at how many times he kept you together. He wants you to be together. Think about all the times that... well, we thought it was over for us, too, right? He kept us together. He's not gonna quit. He's not quitting on us. He's not.
Sami: [Exhales deeply, sniffles]
Philip: Steph? Stephanie?
Stephanie: Hey, hey. Right here.
Stephanie: I just wanted to go wash my face.
Philip: Why, you look --
Philip: Hey. You okay?
Stefano: You've been doing great work, Elvis. I'm proud of you. But now I'm back, so you concentrate on your family, and I, uh -- let me, you know, handle things.
E.J.: Okay. How are you going to handle Owen?
Stefano: Well, let's not go into details again here, but, uh, you will never have to worry about being implicated in that young lady's kidnapping.
Daniel: You're right. There's nothing you can do for Grace -- not right now, not directly -- but you could be a big help to your mom.
Will: Yeah, just tell me what I can do.
Daniel: In my experience... this is easier for her if she had her family around. So I think it's a good idea that you go get them.
Will: Uh, yeah. Yeah, I-I can do that. Look, would you tell Mia where I am?
Nicole: Mia. Are you okay?
Mia: Grace is really sick, and I'm scared. [Sniffles]
Nicole: Okay. Let me put this down. Come here.
Mia: It's not fair to Will, but I keep crying. I -- it's like -- it's like I'm losing my own baby all over again.
Rafe: Sami, I've seen you with her... before she was even born. And like Dr. Jonas said, she's a fighter. She is. She's fighting to be with you. She knows you love her. She knows it.
Sami: And you, too. [Voice breaking] If we lose her, I swear my heart's gonna break.
Rafe: We're not, okay? We're not. Shh. [Smooches] Shh.
Daniel: Hey. Sorry. I came in here to take some cultures and test her reflexes.
Rafe: Look at her. She's just sleeping peacefully. That's good, right?
Daniel: You know, I'll -- I'll get you guys back in here as soon as I can.
Sami: Um, thank you. Okay. Hey, Grace. Okay, you sleep, little girl. We're gonna be right outside, and we're gonna come back -- okay? -- As soon as we can.
Rafe: You hang in there. Right, kiddo? Just --
Philip: [Yawns] I can't believe you're still awake. You must be exhausted after -- after everything.
Stephanie: Not much to do but sleep when you're inside of a morgue drawer.
Philip: I'm not so sure about these jokes anymore. You sure you're okay?
Stephanie: I think about Owen and everything he did.
Philip: Yeah, he's gonna pay for everything he did, okay? He will not hurt anyone... ever again.
Stefano: [Sighs] [Chuckles] It's good to be home. [Exhales deeply] And thank you, Elvis, for breaking me out of that sterile, bureaucratic hellhole.
E.J.: And you're sure Lexie said everything was fine? You didn't need any extra care, any nursing?
Stefano: Believe me, Alexandra was happy to get rid of me. [Exhales deeply] All right. Now, what do you say, my son? Huh? Don't you think it's time for a nice, good drink to honor the occasion?
E.J.: If you make one move towards that bottle, I will march you down to the police station myself.
Stefano: Remember this moment -- hmm? -- When Sydney starts to order you around.
E.J.: She already has. Now, how about I get you a nice cup of weak tea and a lap guard to guard against the chill?
Stefano: How droll. Terribly amusing. But you know something? I am so happy to be home, I don't care. Ah!
E.J.: Listen, I did exactly what you wanted. So, tell me, what's going on with Owen?
Stefano: I will take care of him once and for all. Hmm? That's all you need to know.
Mia: [Sighs] I keep falling apart like this. Like it's my own baby that's in trouble.
Nicole: Oh, hey, of course you're upset. I mean, once you're a mother and you see another mother go through something like this, it just -- [Exhales deeply] it gets to you in ways you never imagined it could.
Mia: You're upset, too.
Nicole: I am.
Mia: How can you hate Will's mom?
Nicole: No. I would never -- never -- wish this on anyone. And whatever I've said about Sami, I never -- never -- said that she doesn't love her children.
Mia: Is it terrible?
Mia: To think about my own little girl and just be happy she's healthy and safe?
Nicole: We just both need to thank God that Sydney's all right. But that doesn't mean that we don't want Grace to get better and for Sami to take her home.
Mia: Do me a favor when you go home. Hug her for me, okay?
Nicole: You know I will.
Mia: You know, I think I'm finally [Sniffles] coming to accept that giving her up was... the best thing for her.
Nicole: I swear to God it was.
Mia: But it doesn't get any easier. I think I'll regret it for the rest of my life. I didn't hold her when she was born.
Nicole: Oh, my God, you're here.
Mia: The baby.
Nicole: Is perfect. An angel. Do you want to see her?
Nicole: And I will never forget bringing that beautiful baby into this world.
Sami: You know what? You're right. God has gotten us through so much.
Rafe: And he's not giving up on us now.
Sami: I just think about all the times that I have decided I wanted something, and -- and I didn't let anything stop me, you know? I did anything I could to get what I wanted. And I hurt people. And, you know, the things I wanted were so stupid. And now my little girl -- our baby is fighting for her life, and there's -- and there's nothing -- nothing -- I can do except sit here and pray.
Rafe: Do you want to get something to eat or... maybe get some fresh air?
Sami: No. I just -- I just want to stay here.
Sami: You know, I really didn't think I was gonna get through it when Dr. Jonas was talking to me. I didn't think I could handle it, and then -- and then you came in and --
Sami: And I just felt stronger. I couldn't get through this without you.
Rafe: Well, you don't have to worry about that, 'cause I'm not going anywhere. We're gonna stay here, and Grace is gonna get better. We'll do this together.
Daniel: And you've gone over all the files?
Nurse: Yes, doctor. I'm up to speed.
Daniel: I think we're in for a pretty tense night.
Nurse: Poor little thing. I'll take good care of her.
Daniel: I know you will. Look, you page me as soon as you get those cultures back.
Nurse: Of course I will. Do -- do you think you'll be able to get some sleep?
Daniel: Uh, no. No, I got to, uh -- I got some other patients, then I'll be right back here, so... oh, and her, uh, level of consciousness seems to be deteriorating. So any change at all, you code blue, okay?
Nurse: Doctor, any visitors?
Daniel: Uh, you know, yeah. You know, I forgot to tell you. The parents -- yes, they've been here, and I think that would be good for them and the baby, so, yeah.
Nurse: I agree. The baby's heard the mother's voice for the past nine months in the womb. The mother can be a miracle worker.
Daniel: Well, that baby's adopted, but, yeah, maybe, uh, the mother can work a miracle. But just her and the father... at least for now. And if you think it'll help, say a prayer.
Nurse: I will. And for the poor family.
On the next "Days of Our Lives..."
Mia: Excuse me. Um, can I ask you a question about Grace?
Nurse: Are you the mother?
Nicole: Yes. Yes, she is.
E.J.: I keep thinking to myself, "what would I do if that were my baby?"
Daniel: We have done everything. You need to prepare yourself.
Nicole: Punish me, please! Don't punish her! Please let Gracie live. Please.
