Sami: You know, I've never felt this way before.

Rafe: Oh. Such a waste.

Sami: "A waste"? What is?

Rafe: You know, all that time in the safe house alone together.

Sami: [Laughs]

Rafe: Could have been doing this.

Sami: [Smooches] We were fools.

Rafe: Hmm. The thing is, I always kind of knew.

Sami: You knew what?

Rafe: Well, even though you were making me crazy, it was -- it was kind of a good crazy.

Sami: [Chuckles] Well, I'm sort of hoping that I won't drive you crazy anymore.

Rafe: I'm not counting on that. Anyways... I like you just the way you are. The truth is, I feel like the luckiest guy in the universe.

Arianna: Are you okay?

Brady: Yeah, yeah, other than the third-degree burns that I have on my arm, I think. Um, I'm gonna go see about getting a skin graft.

Arianna: Okay. Wait. Wait.

Brady: What? What, you want to spill something else on me, or what?

Arianna: Let me get you some ice -- again.

Brady: No, that's okay. Really, I don't need any ice.

Arianna: Okay, just --

Brady: What?

Arianna: Sit...right there.

Brady: Arianna, I don't need any ice.

Arianna: I'll take care of you.

Victor: Well, you're getting your color back, Stefano. Feeling better, too, I take it.

Stefano: I'm feeling very well. Thank you. And I will continue to be well for many more years to come.

Victor: Ah, the power of positive thinking.

Stefano: It's the power of my faith, Victor... in God... and in my family.

Victor: That's very touching. Well, let's be realistic for a moment here, shall we? The last insulin shot we gave you was all we had. So unless E.J. signs those papers and turns over everything DiMera to us... I'm afraid it's "rest in peace, papa."

Stefano: My son will come through for me. See, he has the DiMera ingenuity and fortitude.

Victor: And what about the DiMera naiveté and self-destructiveness? Does he possess those traits, as well?

Stefano: Elvis will not let me down.

Philip: You what? You have...

E.J.: Stephanie. Johnson.

Philip: No.

E.J.: Yes. The love of your life, right?

Philip: No, you're bluffing.

E.J.: That's right. I'm bluffing. I'm just trying to frighten you. I'm sure she's at home -- is she? -- In your Kiriakis compound. She's probably curled up with a nice book and a cup of tea. What's that? Oh, she's not in your heavily guarded compound. Oh, dear. Well, where is she? Let me have a guess. You two had a bit of a lovers' quarrel, and she gave you the old heave-ho.

Philip: I have nothing to say to you, DiMera.

E.J.: Of course not. You're just concerned with those signed contracts, aren't you? Quite a sweet deal, isn't it? Think about it. We give you everything that we have for -- what was it? -- $5 million.

Philip: [Scoffs]

E.J.: Don't worry about Stephanie, Philip. She's safe... for now.

Stephanie: [Crying] Let me out -- please! [Banging] Let me out! Please!

Owen: All right, Stephanie. Stephanie, but you got to understand, you're not giving me much of a choice here. I mean, you just attacked me, for God's sake.

Stephanie: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have come after you. I'm just confused. One minute I'm at the Kiriakis mansion. The next, I wake up in a morgue.

Owen: No, look, I get it. I know that this isn't any fun for you -- laying on this tray, being in this morgue -- but don't take it out on me, all right? I'm just following orders here. You can either shut up and stop screaming or I'll do it for you. It's your call.

Melanie: I'll bet it's valuable. It's got to be, right? Stephanie is a pretty classy chick. She's probably freaking out looking for it right now. But finders, keepers. Besides, now that she lives at the Kiriakis castle, she really doesn't need it anymore. I bet I could put it online and make a couple hundred bucks. God knows I need the money.

Stephanie: All right. Look, I'm not gonna try anything ever again. I promise. No more stupid stuff.

Owen: Good, 'cause I don't like being the bad guy, especially not with you. You're sweet and beautiful and kind.

Stephanie: Thank you.

Owen: I'm just telling it like it is. Philip's a lucky guy.

Stephanie: Right. Um... Owen, can I ask you something?

Owen: Shoot.

Stephanie: Why did you take me here? You said you had orders.

Owen: Yeah, very specific orders, which I've carried out quite well, thus far. Well, so far, so good, I guess.

Stephanie: And your order was to bring me to the morgue?

Owen: [Chuckling] No. Actually, that was my idea. I figured it was just as good a place as any. I mean, let's face it. No one's ever gonna find you here, or even think to look, for that matter -- not the Kiriakis family, not the cops, not even my employers.

Stephanie: "Employers"?

Owen: That's what I said.

Stephanie: So it's true -- you work for the DiMeras.

Owen: I never said that.

Stephanie: They're the ones who did this. They're the ones who told you to kidnap me, huh?

Philip: Stephanie is "safe for now"? What the hell does that mean?

E.J.: Well, I think that's rather self-explanatory.

Philip: Look, you arrogant bastard. What goes on between our families is between us. You leave innocent people out of this or, so help me, I --

E.J.: You'll what?

Philip: You stay away from her. You understand me?

E.J.: It's a little late for that now, isn't it?

Sami: [Chuckles] You are definitely the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Rafe: Don't you forget it.

Sami: [Chuckles] I won't.

Rafe: Okay.

Sami: Now I just have to, uh, figure out how I deserve it.

Rafe: Stop.

Sami: I mean it. I just --

Rafe: Will you stop? You're everything that I have ever wanted in a woman, a friend. A pretty tasteful guy, as well.

Sami: [Chuckles]

Rafe: Reasonably smart, so don't --

Sami: I think so. Don't -- do not tell me that I'm falling for a woman who's not deserving.

Sami: Okay. I think I'm just gonna tell you to shut up.

Arianna: That feel okay?

Brady: Y-yeah. Yeah. It's better. The pain's about a 5. It was at a 9.5.

Arianna: On a scale of --

Brady: About 4. Ohh.

Arianna: Sorry.

Brady: It's all right. You know, God, ever since I ran into you, everything's just getting better and better and better for me, huh?

Arianna: Well, you started all this.

Brady: Wait. How did I start all this?

Arianna: I was minding my own business, just leaving the pub, when all of a sudden I hear, "what did you hear me say? How dare you listen in on my phone call."

Brady: All right, all right. I was -- I was kind of a jerk.

Arianna: "Kind of"?

Brady: A total big jerk. Sorry about that.

Melanie: Hi, Brady.

Brady: Melanie. Hey. How you doing? Um, this is, uh, Arianna.

Melanie: Oh, I know her. I got a cheeseburger from her.

Arianna: I remember it well. How's it going, Mel?

Melanie: Good. What happened to your arm?

Brady: Oh, uh, she threw a big, hot cup of coffee on me.

Arianna: I what?

Brady: She didn't -- she didn't throw it on me -- that's not fair -- but she spilled it on me. She claimed it was an accident.

Melanie: Can I take a look at it?

Brady: Uh, yeah, sure.

Melanie: I'm training to be a nurse, so I need all the practice I can get. Oh, my g--

Brady: What do you think?

Melanie: Put some aloe on it. I think you'll live.

Brady: Good. I'm gonna live. Good news.

Melanie: Uh, I'm gonna go over to the computer, make sure it doesn't get stolen, so I can use it.

Brady: Okay. I'll see you later, all right?

Arianna: So, you, uh, gonna buy me a fresh cup of coffee, or what?

Brady: [Chuckles] That's funny. Wait. You want me to buy you a fresh cup of coffee?

Arianna: Face it, Brady. You owe me, 'cause if I hadn't run into you, then --

Brady: Oh. Okay. Okay. All right. I will. I will get you a fresh cup, but you know what? We're gonna do iced coffee... just to play it safe, all right?

Philip: "A little late"? Stop being so damn cryptic and tell me what's going on.

E.J.: Never mind, Philip. Why don't you just forget I said anything?

Philip: You do have her, don't you? You took her.

E.J.: That's how it goes, Philip. You see? Tit for tat. Easy. You take my father. I take your fiancée. So...

[Claps hands] ...A proposal. An exchange. A swap, if you will. And I want my father here tonight.

Stephanie: Just tell me. The DiMeras -- you're working for them, aren't you? Owen, they're just using you. You don't have to do this. You're better than that. Look, there's still time. You can let me go.

Owen: No. Sorry. Steph, I can't. I can't -- if I let you go...my employers would not be happy.

Stephanie: What about your other employers -- the Kiriakises?

Owen: I can't worry about them now.

Stephanie: You better start worrying. As soon as they find out you're a spy for the DiMeras and that you kidnapped me, you're a dead man.

Owen: No. But they'll see that I kept you safe. It's not like that. They'll see that I didn't hurt you.

Stephanie: It won't matter. As soon as they get their hands on you, you're gonna be the one lying on a slab in a drawer, not me.

Rafe: I think I've finally figured it all out. I get it now.

Sami: Hmm. Yeah? It's real, isn't it?

Rafe: Nope. It's just a scam so I can have my way with you.

Sami: [Chuckling] I can't believe it worked.

Rafe: [Chuckles] Kind of easy.

Sami: Am I annoying you yet?

Rafe: What?

Sami: Well, you know, I'm trying to play it off, like I'm not pathetically desperately in need of constant reassurance, but I don't think it's working.

Rafe: Oh, please. Maybe that's what I like about you. You are who you are. Beautiful... insecure... sweet, generous, loving. Mainly... mainly, uh...

Sami: Mainly?

Rafe: Mainly a smoking-hot pain in the ass.

Philip: Nah, you don't have her. You don't have Stephanie.

E.J.: You know, the funny thing was...how easy it was to take her. But I always thought a man was supposed to protect his woman.

Philip: Oh, my God.

E.J.: Is something wrong, Philip?

Philip: You drugged me.

E.J.: I have no idea what you're talking about.

Philip: You sick son of a bitch, where is she? Fine. You want to broker a deal? Let's deal. Stephanie for your father.

E.J.: I want him released immediately. [Snaps fingers] Make the call.

Philip: [Chuckles] I'm sorry, E.J. I can't do that.

Owen: You wouldn't let them hurt me. You're not like the Kiriakises. You're not a mean person.

Stephanie: You think I'd have a say in it? It would be beyond my control.

Owen: You're just playing me. You don't know what will happen.

Stephanie: What about the police? Have you thought about that? My uncle is the commissioner. Owen, just turn yourself in before something terrible happens.

Owen: Nothing terrible will happen. I'm a good guy, Stephanie. You know it. You -- you said it yourself.

Stephanie: I know you are. You're just mixed up with bad people, that's all.

Owen: You know, under different circumstances... I bet you'd even like me.

Stephanie: What do mean, "under different circumstances"? I already like you.

Owen: You do?

Stephanie: Can't you tell?

Brady: You know what? I'm gonna -- I'm gonna put this is neutral territory so we're safe, okay?

Arianna: That's a good move.

Brady: Yeah.

Brendan: Brady, what's up?

Brady: Brendan, how you doing, man?

Brendan: Good. So, Sunday -- you in for some morning baseball?

Brady: Yes. Absolutely. Absolutely. You need me to bring some stuff. I got gloves. I got bats. You need another bat, right?

Brendan: We could use another.

Brady: All right. All right. You know what? Actually, all my stuff is still at Sami's place, um, with my dad's stuff, so I'll -- I'll stop by there before the game and I'll grab it. Is that cool?

Brendan: Yeah. Thanks, man.

Brady: All right. See you Sunday.

Brendan: Yep. Sounds good.

Brady: What? I j-- I joined a community softball league.

Arianna: Good for you.

Brady: "Good for you." What -- what, is it dorky or something? What's with the face?

Arianna: Are you related to Sami Brady?

Brady: Um, technically, no. Not by blood, I mean, but she -- yeah, she's my stepsister.

Arianna: I see.

Brady: Why? You know her?

Arianna: Yeah. Not a fan.

Sami: Did you just say "a smoking-hot pain in the ass"?

Rafe: Yeah, but I, you know, I meant it -- it was -- it was a compliment.

Sami: Oh, yeah. Right. [Scoffs]

Rafe: Sami -- Sami, hey. Stop. You're a beautiful... independent, strong, incredible woman, and I cherish every inch of you, especially this inch right here.

Sami: [Shrieking] No, no. Stop.

Rafe: [Chuckles]

Sami: Yeah, you like those rebel girls, huh?

Rafe: I like you.

Sami: Oh, yeah? Then how come you gave me such a hard time in the safe house when you were watching out for me?

Rafe: A hard time?

Sami: Yeah.

Rafe: What? You -- you mean about breaking out of custody, trying to go AWOL from witness protection?

Sami: It wasn't just that. You were giving me a hard time about everything.

Rafe: Well, I don't know. Maybe all the reckless behavior of yours carried over.

Sami: [Sighs]

Rafe: Well, I'm serious, you -- you know? You were always jeopardizing your safety, as well as Grace's.

Sami: You know why I was doing it, though, right? I mean, I had to get to that convent. I was trying to protect Grace.

Rafe: It didn't make me worry any less. So, you know something? It's one of the things I really like about you. You always protect your children. I have a lot of respect for that.

Sami: Oh, yeah?

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: Is that why you put up with me all those months -- 'cause you respect me?

Rafe: Yeah. Respect that.

Sami: [Chuckles]

Rafe: Oh, shoot. I can't.

Sami: What? What?

Rafe: I got to split.

Sami: What are you d-- what?

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: Rafe?

E.J.: So I would like my father released right now. Do you understand me?

Philip: [Chuckles]

E.J.: [Chuckles] I guess you don't.

Philip: You are joking, right? You think you can just tell me you have Stephanie and we're just gonna let the old man go, just like that? Well, what kind of fool do you think I am, Elvis?

E.J.: Well, if it's proof you wish, I think I can provide some of that.

Philip: What have you done to her?

E.J.: She's safe, and that is the only thing that you need to concern yourself with. Once I have my father back, you will have your precious, little Stephanie back, too. So, what's it gonna be?

Owen: You really like me?

Stephanie: Well, yeah. I mean, I don't like the situation that we're in, but... you seem like a really good person.

Owen: Oh, I am, Stephanie. This whole kidnapping thing -- this is not even me.

Stephanie: I know it's not.

Owen: I mean, this is a first-time deal for me -- totally.

Stephanie: I just wish you hadn't brought me to a morgue. This place kind of gives me the creeps, you know? Maybe we can go somewhere else, someplace just as safe?

Owen: Ah, but this is convenient for me. Nobody knows you're here.

Stephanie: Not even E.J.?

Owen: No. No one except for me. I guess I could keep you here forever if I wanted to.

[Chuckles]

Brady: So, you and Sami are like, uh, oil and water -- is that it?

Arianna: She's a phony. I don't trust her for a minute.

Brady: How well do you know her?

Arianna: I met her a couple times.

Brady: Oh, you've already passed on this judgment?

Arianna: I've got good people instincts. What can I say? Why? Is she like your favorite person in the world?

Brady: Sami? No. No. I mean, she's okay. I think she means well.

Arianna: But you don't get along.

Brady: I didn't say that.

Arianna: I hear it in your voice.

Brady: All right. We don't get along that well. It's true.

Arianna: Well, anyway, thanks for the coffee.

Brady: You're welcome. Oh, and thank you for the, uh, the grievous bodily harm that you gave me.

Arianna: Yeah. I hope your girlfriend won't be too angry that I scarred you for life.

Brady: No girlfriend.

Arianna: Oh, well, and she won't be mad, will she?

Brady: It's unlikely. Oh, well, I should probably...

Arianna: Right. Go.

Brady: Yeah.

Arianna: Go.

Brady: See you around.

Arianna: Cool.

Melanie: In the olden days, I would have sold you for a lot of money. Now, all of a sudden, I have a conscience. Is Maggie rubbing off on me or something?

[Sighs] The earring is Stephanie's, so I have to do the right thing and give it back.

Stephanie: You know what I could really use right now?

Owen: Hmm?

Stephanie: Some water. I'm dying of thirst.

Owen: Oh, yeah. I can get you some water. Sure.

Stephanie: And do you think you could let me sit up for a minute so I can at least take a sip?

Owen: Oh, yeah. I don't see why not. Um... here. Oh, yeah. Uh...

Stephanie: Thank you.

Owen: Sorry about your earring.

Stephanie: Oh. That's okay.

Owen: Real gold, I bet, huh?

Stephanie: It is. My grandmother gave it to me, so it also has sentimental value. But what can you do? Things get lost.

[Cellphone ringing] My phone. Aren't you gonna answer it?

Owen: Whoever it is will leave a message.

[Ringing continues]

Stephanie: [Thinking] Philip, please save me.

Stefano: [Inhales, exhales deeply] [Clears throat] Just, uh, so you know, the man that you work for -- he is an amoral swine. You can do better.

In this job market, I'm not so sure.

Stefano: [Coughs] If I ask you a question... will you answer me honestly? [Exhales deeply] [Clears throat] The last insulin shot that you gave me -- hmm -- how long will it keep me...healthy?

It depends.

Stefano: Hmm. And since you rationed it out -- right? -- The last dose that you gave me...

Will be absorbed by the body at an accelerated rate.

Stefano: Which means, uh, I don't have much time, huh?

I'm sorry.

Stefano: [Exhales deeply] Come on, son. I'm counting on you.

Philip: Oh, what? You think it's so simple? I just snap my fingers and -- boom -- Stefano's released?

E.J.: If you care about Stephanie, you will convince your father to do the right thing.

Philip: [Exhales deeply] I'll see what I can do.

E.J.: Thank you. And no running off to the police and big brother Bo. Agreed?

Philip: Agreed.

E.J.: Good. And one last thing. The, uh, contract that your father wants me to sign. I assume we can now declare that...null...and... void. Call me.

[Thud]

Stephanie: Who called? Was it Philip?

Owen: It wasn't my contact.

Stephanie: Then who was it?

Owen: That's all you need to know.

Stephanie: So then it was E.J.

Owen: It wasn't my contact. Let's just leave it at that, okay?

Stephanie: So, what now?

Owen: We sit and wait.

Stephanie: Until?

Owen: Until my contact calls with further instructions.

Stephanie: Oh!

Owen: What's wrong?

Stephanie: Ow.

Owen: What is it?

Stephanie: It's my back. Owen, if I don't get down for a few minutes, this pain is really gonna get worse. Come on. Please just let me get down. A few minutes. That's all. You'd do that for me, right?

Melanie: "Stephanie... left a message about earring. Call back or text." Before I auction off the damn thing.

Brady: "We buy gold"?

Melanie: [Sighs] Oh, my God. Brady. Um, don't sneak up on people like that.

Brady: Um, what are you doing? Are you, uh, selling someone's jewelry or something?

Melanie: No, I'm not selling someone's jewelry.

Brady: Why does that look familiar?

Melanie: Well, it's Stephanie's. Who else wears jewelry the size of a tennis racket?

Brady: So you are selling it.

Melanie: No. Did you not hear me? I'm not selling it. My conscience got the better of me.

Brady: Your conscience? Your conscience? When did you get one of those?

Melanie: Ha ha!

Brady: Wait a minute. I'm actually impressed here.

Melanie: Well, now I can die happy.

Brady: It's like you're actually becoming a human being or something, Melanie.

Melanie: Yeah, I know. It's boring, huh?

Brady: No, it's not. The new Melanie -- I kind of like her.

Melanie: Yeah, well, don't get used to it. I'm not completely reformed.

Brady: I know. It's a process. I understand.

Melanie: Yeah. I'm actually shocked myself. I called Stephanie to let her know I had her earring. What?

Brady: I'm proud of you.

Sami: Where are you going?

Rafe: My place.

Sami: Why?

Rafe: Do you really need to ask that?

Sami: Because of will.

Rafe: Yeah. You know what? He's gonna be home at some point, right?

Sami: Yeah.

Rafe: Yeah. And even though he's cool with us, it's not right.

Grace: [Crying]

Sami: See? Grace doesn't want you to leave, either. She's very sad. She needs you.

Rafe: Don't.

Sami: Come on. You have the magic touch. You could put her right back to sleep. Come on. Stay for a little bit.

Rafe: All right. [Crying continues] Hey, there, baby girl. Why you up? I know what it is. You missed me, huh? Huh? Shh! No, no, no, no, no. No. No more tears. I'm here. I'm here, and I'm gonna take care of you and your mommy forever.

Rafe: And if that mockingbird don't sing

papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring I know. Same old lullaby. Well, you're right. I have got to work on my repertoire -- add something new and --

Sami: [Chuckles]

Rafe: Hey.

Sami: She's still awake, huh?

Rafe: Yeah. Barely.

Sami: I just got a text from will, and, um, he's out bowling with his friends. He said he wouldn't be home till later.

Rafe: Oh, yeah?

Sami: So I thought you could stay longer, if you want to.

Rafe: Yeah, I do. I do. I'm -- I just think maybe you should have a talk with will, you know, so when he comes home later he doesn't freak out when I'm here.

Sami: I will. I'm going to talk to him. And I'm gonna tell him that we're together. I love the sound of that.

Rafe: So does Grace. Look. She -- she just smiled.

[Both chuckle] Yeah.

Sami: Yeah. I'm gonna tell him that, um, that we're together so he knows to expect you around a lot.

Rafe: Well, that's a good idea. I actually had a good idea of my own.

Sami: Oh, yeah?

Rafe: Yeah. I was looking at this perfect, little creature right here, and, um, you know, I thought that since now I'm staying in Salem and we're together, then... I should do the right thing. I should make a proper commitment.

Melanie: So you're proud of me. That's sweet and only slightly condescending.

Brady: Hey, I didn't mean it to be.

Melanie: I know. And coming from a do-gooder like yourself, that's high praise. So thank you.

Brady: It kind of shows that you've moved on, too.

Melanie: From?

Brady: Philip. By extending this olive branch to Stephanie.

Melanie: Uh, yes. No. I guess it does. That's -- that's very true.

Brady: Doesn't it feel good? I mean, does it feel good?

Melanie: Um, it probably feels about as good as when you realized you had to completely give up Nicole.

Brady: Yeah. Well, you know, that -- that felt -- that felt good.

Melanie: Well, look at us. That just -- I mean, we should open up, you know, a yoga studio here or a health-food store and pass out good vibes for a living.

Brady: Yeah, that would be a great idea. [Chuckles] Oh, God.

Melanie: Well, I'm glad you were here to witness my new maturity.

Brady: Me too.

Melanie: So, to sum it up, I am officially through with Philip Kiriakis and therefore no longer jealous of miss Stephanie Johnson. So, to their bright and shining future.

Victor: Philip?

Philip: Dad. Finally. I've been trying to reach you.

Victor: It's late. What do you want?

Philip: Look, we need to talk. It's an emergency. Where you at?

Victor: At the house.

Philip: I'll be there in a minute. I won't lose you, Stephanie.

Owen: Your back?

Stephanie: Yeah. I have a history of back problems. This surface isn't the best thing for it. That's why I have to get down for a few minutes. You understand, don't you?

E.J.: [Sighs]

[Liquid pouring]

E.J.: You'll be very happy to know I finally have the upper hand. You're gonna be coming home soon -- very soon.

Owen: I'd love to help you out, Stephanie. I mean, really, I would. But after the whole "trying to stab me with scissors" thing...

Stephanie: I'm -- I said I was sorry. I was freaked out. I mean, you can sympathize, right? I was disoriented. I was freaked.

Owen: Okay. I'll let you down, but only for a minute, all right?

Stephanie: Thank you. Thank you so much.

Owen: Okay.

Sami: You, um, you want to make a commitment?

Rafe: It's time. And we've been through a lot together.

Sami: Yeah. Yeah, we have. [Exhales sharply] So, um, exactly what kind of commitment... did you mean?

Rafe: I want to be a father to Grace -- in every way.

Melanie: So, the heiress-to-be isn't gonna call me back. Tsk. No good deed... who knows? Maybe -- maybe she doesn't need it that much now that she's going to be a Kiriakis.

[Door slams]

Victor: This better be newsworthy.

Philip: They've got Stephanie. They took her. They kidnapped her from the estate.

Victor: How do you know this?

Philip: E.J. showed me a picture.

Victor: It's unfortunate.

Philip: "Unfortunate"? We're talking about the woman I'm about to marry, the woman I love. So they want us to release Stefano in exchange for Stephanie. So...we do it. Now.

Victor: No.

Stephanie: [Exhales deeply]

Owen: You okay? You dizzy? How do you feel?

[Cellphone ringing]

Owen: Ugh! Oh!

Stephanie: Philip? Philip, is that you? Help me! Help me! He has me! Philip! [Crying] Let go of me!

Sami: Are you asking me to marry you?

Philip: Thinking like that gets people dead, and I will not let Stephanie be next.

Stephanie: Let go of me!

Owen: Don't make me hurt you!

Nicole: Something's gone wrong, hasn't it?
