Name, please.

Stephanie: Hi, I'm stephanie. I was here yesterday, remember?

Full name, please, and picture I.D.

Stephanie: Stephanie johnson. I should be on the list. Just check.

I'll need that I.D.

Stephanie: Okay. All right. [Exhales sharply] Thank you.

I'm sorry, ma'am. Before you enter the room, I'm going to have to search you.

[Monitor beeping]

[Silenced gunshot]

Philip: [Gasps]

E.J.: You proved that he was poisoned. I mean, do you know what kind of poison?

Lexie: I didn't say that. You weren't poisoned... but there is something very seriously wrong with you.

Stefano: All right. Just tell me what kiriakis did to me.

Lexie: He didn't do this! You did.

Sami: Come on. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't sure that I want you in my life.

Rafe: Till the next time you don'T.

Attention. Flight 753 for new york's kennedy airport is now boarding at gate 7b. Please have your boarding pass...

Rafe: Well, that's me. I got to go, all right?

Sami: No. No, rafe, I'm not letting you go!

Rafe: Sami --

Sami: No. Okay? We can make this work. I-I'll change.

Rafe: No, it's more complicated than that.

Sami: Only because you're making it complicated.

Rafe: No, sami, listen. I wouldn't want you to change.

Sami: Stop saying things like that. Just shut up, okay? Shut up and listen to me. Just -- oh, God, that's it, isn't it? I mean, that's -- that's -- saying things like that just make you mad at me in the first place. And n-now crying -- that's gonna make you mad at me, too. [Sniffles]

Rafe: Not this time.

Sami: Oh, God, how do I do this? How do I -- rafe, please. Please. Please just give me a chance to change your mind. Please.

Chelsea: Hey.

Max: Hey. Hold on a second. Um, club sandwich on rye. Thanks. Hey. So, how's philip?

Chelsea: Uh, pretty groggy. He passed out before I even made it out the hospital.

Max: Really? Is he -- is he in pain still?

Chelsea: No, he's pretty doped up still.

Max: Okay.

Chelsea: You seem frantic.

Max: Yeah, yeah. I'm kind of a one-man band today. Uh, ma's out taking care of the twins, and, uh, michelle called in sick, and arianna's still on her way, so...

Chelsea: Oh. Well, I was wondering how I was gonna spend the rest of my afternoon, so...

Max: Uh, what -- no, what -- what are you doing?

Chelsea: What does it look like I'm doing? I'm getting ready to sling hash.

Max: [Chuckles] No. No, that's not gonna happen.

Stephanie: [Sighs] Great. Way to make a pal, steph.

Philip: A pal? What are you talking about?

Stephanie: The guard. I should be thankful, right? I mean, he's protecting you. It's a good thing. But the way he looked at me -- i mean, he's acting like I'm some kind of dangerous lowlife criminal, going through my purse. I can't take any of this.

Rafe: See, sami, I wanted to leave without telling you so we wouldn't have to go through this.

Sami: Look, I get it. You're mad at me, okay? But I really think that if you give me a chance --

Rafe: You keep saying that I'm mad at you and that I think this is your fault.

Sami: I know it's my fault.

Rafe: No, it's not. It's not. It's not. You know -- when I said that we don't work together -- it's no one's fault. [Sighs] Sometimes when I think about when we were in that safe house, it's like we were in a dream or something and -- you see, I hate talking. I hate it.

Sami: No, it was. It -- it was like a dream, and it was -- it was wonderful. Something really special happened there.

Rafe: No. No. And that's the thing about dreams. They fooled us into thinking that we were alone, that it was just us -- you and me...and then Grace and -- that we were alone in the world.

Sami: But it was wonderful. It was really special, and it -- it was wonderful, even though there was some guy trying to kill me.

Rafe: No, no. You know what? Whatever it was, it's gone now. We're not alone in the world. Your life is here. Mine is, uh -- it just isn'T.

Sami: Hold -- hold on a second. You got stabbed. You -- you fought an infection. You never gave up on me. You never gave up on Grace. But now you're going to?

Now you're just gonna throw in the towel and walk away? No way. No way. I am not gonna let you give up.

E.J.: I'm sorry. Uh, what did you just say?

Lexie: The results of your blood work and some other tests I ordered confirmed a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

Stefano: [Chuckling] Diabetes? Oh, God. I thought it was something serious.

Lexie: This is very serious.

Stefano: [Sighs] Sweetheart, there's nothing that I cannot handle. If I get a little dizzy, I'll just have a glass of orange juice.

Lexie: And when it starts to affect your sight, will it be serious then? Or your heart, your liver?

E.J.: Okay, well, surely you can just give him a little bit of...insulin or something.

Lexie: Yeah, I-insulin will help, but it's not enough. He needs to do a complete about-face in the way that he lives his life.

Stephanie: I'm sorry. The last thing you need is me going on and on about the guy who's guarding you and protecting you, and I seem all put upon just because he went through my purse. I mean, he's just doing his job. I know that. And I want him to do his job, 'cause that means you're safe.

Philip: I don't know, steph. Seeing you like this -- you don't lose it like that. You don't get that mad. I'm just being stupid and self-indulgent. I'm just worried about you.

Philip: No. No, that's part of the problem. Damn it, stephanie, what have i done to you?

Max: Yeah, I'm sorry.

Chelsea: So, you really don't want me to help you?

Max: Let me paint you a picture here. You start working here, and it all works out okay until you mess up, and that's not gonna happen. That's not good. That's not a good thing.

Chelsea: Okay. Uh, let me ask you a question. Uh, would it be messing up, as you put it, to give somebody ketchup when they ask for horseradish sauce?

Max: What are you talking about?

Chelsea: Jean blevins. She always orders her fries with a side of horseradish sauce because she can't even stand to look at ketchup.

Max: Uh, well, maybe it's not jean blevins' order.

Chelsea: Except that we both know that it is, 'cause nobody else orders a tuna melt with swiss instead of cheddar.

Max: Right. It's totally wrong, by the way.

Chelsea: Totally. An error compounded by the fact that she orders it on wheat toast instead of rye. So while I agree with you that the woman's a culinary idiot, nonetheless, you still screwed up her order. And she also appears to be getting a tad impatient, so don't worry. I will fix your little mistake and smooth it all over, okay?

Max: Okay.

Chelsea: Excuse me.

Max: Fine. We'll give you a shot. We'll give you a shot, but you're not getting any special treatment.

Chelsea: All right.

Rafe: Well, I am not giving up.

Sami: That is exactly what you're doing. I mean, you were gonna sneak away without even saying goodbye to me.

Rafe: I'm doing what I think is right -- right for you and right for me, okay?

Sami: You know, my dad has, like, a police term for I think what that's called -- "a bunch of crap."

Rafe: Well, see, I'm going. You see that? We can't even say goodbye like normal people. It's unbelievable.

Sami: You're scared.

Rafe: [Scoffs]

Sami: You're scared of me.

Rafe: Am I? That is so ridiculous.

Sami: I don't mean physically. But all your quantico fbi training doesn't mean you're not scared of me.

Rafe: Now, that's what I call "crap."

Sami: You said you know my strategy. I'm catching on to you.

Rafe: [Scoffs]

Sami: I came in here, and all I said was that I wanted to tell you how I felt. And since that moment, you have been bobbing and weaving and doing everything you could to avoid hearing how I really feel. So look at me... 'cause I'm gonna say it. Ready?

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: I have never met anyone like you... and I have never felt about anyone the way that I feel about you. And I got to tell you, I would do just about anything to stop you from getting on that plane.

Lexie: Trust me. If you try treating this with a glass of orange juice when you're dizzy, then before you know it, this disease is going to bring you to your knees.

Stefano: [Exhales deeply]

Lexie: Listen, I'm going to start the admitting process. You think about what I said.

[Door closes]

Stefano: [Exhales deeply]

E.J.: Sorry.

Stefano: Go after her.

E.J.: Go after her? She's just as upset with me as she is with you.

Stefano: Yeah, please, go after her. Tell her I'm sorry, all right? Please, just do it for me. Please?

E.J.: Okay. Okay. [Smooches]

Stefano: Thank you, son. [Exhales deeply]

[Door closes]

Stefano: [Exhales sharply] Oh! You son of A...

Stephanie: I came here to make you feel better, not worse.

Philip: We both know this is all my fault, that I put you in danger.

Stephanie: Philip, we don't both know that. From where I'm standing, stefano dimera and the man with the gun put my life in danger.

Philip: If you weren't with me --

Stephanie: But I was, and it was my choice. Philip, can we just -- can we work through this together? Because when you start feeling guilty about me, you just push me away, and I need you.

Philip: You need me?

Stephanie: Yes. What happened was scary, and you're right -- I'm not back to normal. And sometimes I feel very alone. But not when I'm with you. So just let me sit here with you.

Philip: Okay.

Chelsea: What's that?

Max: Hmm?

Chelsea: Oh, I thought you, like, just applied.

Max: I did, so it's probably a rejection letter.

Chelsea: Probably?

Max: Yeah. "Dear candidate, it took about three minutes for us to decide that we didn't want someone like you going to our medical school because you served beers instead of growing up."

Chelsea: Well, how about somebody that took on a full-time job in order to pay for the rest of college because he was that determined to finish it?

Max: Chelsea, they get applications like this from people who get straight a's all over the country -- from top schools.

Chelsea: Max, you get straight a's in all of the courses that matter in terms of being a doctor. Just open it and see what they decided, okay?

Max: Okay. But you might just have to take over, 'cause if I find out I'm rejected, I'm going out to the parking lot and I'm gonna kick and scream and rant and rave and maybe throw stuff.

Chelsea: Quit stalling and open the letter, max.

Max: Fine.

Chelsea: What does it say?

Rafe: Sami, don'T. Don't do this. Don't, okay? Just don'T.

Sami: What? Don't what? Don't give up, like you are?

Rafe: Look, two people -- this happens all the time. They go through some sort of intense experience, and -- and they're left with something. It's something -- it's just not there.

Sami: You're wrong.

Rafe: [Scoffs]

Sami: And I can prove it.

Rafe: How?

Sami: Because I'm -- because I'm gonna say something that i don't want to say, and I hate doing it. And I'm not saying it to make you stay... because -- since you're really leaving, i just want you to hear me say it before you go.

Rafe: Okay.

Sami: I'm sorry, rafe. I'm really, really sorry.

Chelsea: Well, what does it say?

Max: I didn't get in.

Chelsea: Oh. I'm sorry, max.

Max: But it's not a rejection, either. It just kind of acknowledges that they received my application.

Chelsea: So, we went through all that drama just to find out that they received your application?

Max: It kind of makes you wonder how I'm gonna handle the E.R., Right?

Arianna: Hey, guys.

Max: Hey.

Arianna: Max, am I late?

Max: No. No, no, no. I'm -- I'm glad to see you.

Arianna: Everything okay? It looked a little serious when I came in.

Max: No, no, nothing. It's all good.

Arianna: Okay. It sure seems that way.

Max: I knew it meant a lot, but I don't usually freak out like that.

Chelsea: You didn't freak out, and let's be honest -- waiting's the hardest part. And don't worry. The next letter that you get from salem U. Will be a letter of acceptance.

Max: Uh, this one wasn't from salem.

Chelsea: What?

Max: I applied to schools in chicago, too, and this was from one of them.

Chelsea: Chicago?

Max: Yeah. Like, illinois -- you know, where obama's from.

Chelsea: Yeah, no, I get that. Um, but if you get accepted there, you're gonna move there.

Max: It's traditional, yeah.

Chelsea: So, what about us?

Stefano: [Exhales deeply]

E.J.: You going somewhere?

Stefano: Elvis. Remember, huh? I can't take any stress.

E.J.: After everything that I've done for you, my sister did for you, you play us both to get yourself out of hospital?

Stefano: [Sighs] Do you care to listen, hmm? Once alexandra got the full force of her medical team ready to go, it would have been very difficult for me to get out of that hospital without attracting a lot of attention.

E.J.: Father, you're not supposed to get out of hospital, okay? You're supposed to stay there, get better.

Stefano: [Sighs] No. That could not happen.

E.J.: Did you hear what she said? You can lose your sight. Your heart can give out at any moment.

Stefano: Do you think for one moment the way things are right now that I could be a patient in that hospital?

E.J.: What are you doing?

Stefano: I'm going to go to brunei. When I get there, then I will take care of all the tedious health things that alexandra wants me to do, and I'll come back when I'm in fighting shape again.

E.J.: Are you gonna take care of yourself?

Stefano: Yes. And you are going to take care of kiriakis.

Stephanie: Do you think they'd confiscate books? I could read to you.

Philip: [Chuckles] I do know how to read, okay?

Stephanie: I know. It's just nice when you're sick sometimes to have someone read to you.

Lexie: Uh, excuse me. I'm sorry to interrupt.

Philip: Then don'T. Why don't you turn around and get the hell out of here?

Rafe: Sami, you don't have to be sorry.

Sami: I have a lot to be sorry for. I know what I did, and I know it wasn't right.

Rafe: Right. I don't really know what you're talking about.

[Both chuckle]

Sami: Well, I, um -- I hate being honest with myself, and, uh, I try to avoid it, g-generally speaking, but you can't avoid this. The whole time, I was like -- whenever I needed your help or -- or needed you to be there for me, I was always like, "rafe, you're the best, and thank you, and -- and -- and you're the only guy who gets me," and then...the second i disagreed with you about something, I was like, "not listening." I guess, uh...using people is my default mode.

Rafe: Really? I hadn't noticed.

Sami: [Chuckles] Yeah, you did. I guess I just -- you were trying to warn me that E.J. Was dangerous, and I just wasn't listening, and -- and I'm really sorry.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final boarding call for flight 753 for new york jfk. All passengers for this flight should be on board at this time.

Rafe: So, I should --

Sami: Go.

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: Go.

Rafe: Yeah.

Max: Chelse, it's chicago. It's not antarctica, all right? And they have these new inventions now. They got -- they got phones and planes and e-mails.

Chelsea: Max, it's gonna change things. You know it will.

Max: If I get into medical school, it's gonna change things either way, no matter where I am.

Chelsea: I understand that. You're going into a very demanding profession, and our time together is gonna be very, very limited.

Max: That's right.

Chelsea: Okay. And if we're not living in the same city, then we're never gonna see each other.

Max: So, what if we're not in different cities? Chelsea, why -- why don't you move with me to chicago?

Philip: Do you really think after a dimera had me shot I'm gonna have another dimera as my doctor?

Lexie: No, I'm not here as your doctor, and I completely understand. You're upset.

Philip: I'm not upset. I'm trying to stay alive here.

Stephanie: Philip!

Lexie: It's okay. It's okay.

Stephanie: She didn't try to hurt you. She helped save your life.

Philip: She's a dimera. There's nothing she can do about that.

Stefano: Thank you, your highness, and, uh, yes, i look forward to seeing you once again. Ah. Well... everything is arranged.

E.J.: Everything is arranged, is it? Well, why don't we call up bo brady? I'm sure he'll give you a lift down to the airport.

Stefano: You know, if I have to give up a few liqueurs, you can at least give up a little of your sarcasm.

E.J.: Father...please. I'll watch him for you. Victor kiriakis is looking for you, and you just think you can fly away into the sunset.

Stefano: Look, you just worry about handling things here, all right? I'll take care of getting out of here. I'm not happy about this, you know? You think I want victor kiriakis to think for one second that I'm running?

E.J.: I don't care what victor kiriakis thinks.

Stefano: All right. [Grunts] You know, I have...no qualms about leaving you here -- okay? -- Because you've proven yourself. Elvis... I'm very proud of you.

E.J.: Well... that makes one of us.

Philip: Hey, what's wrong?

Stephanie: I have a headache. You know, I'm gonna go see if the nurse can give me some aspirin.

Philip: You're mad at me, aren't you?

Stephanie: I don't know what I am, philip. I know I'm sad. Tony died, you almost died, and now you hate lexie. When does it end?

[Door closes]

Chelsea: I can't move to chicago, max...

Max: Why not? There's hospitals there that need people like you, and -- and there's -- there's apartments that overlook the lake.

Chelsea: ...Because my family is here.

Max: So is mine. We'll visit.

Chelsea: Well, what about stephanie? I just signed a lease with her.

Max: Hey, arianna, are you still looking for a place to stay?

Arianna: I am.

Max: Would you mind sharing a two-bedroom or know anybody else who would?

Arianna: I would, and I'm not gonna tell the 11 other people i know who are looking.

Max: [Chuckles] See? Huh?

Chelsea: Well, you just solved everything, didn't you?

Max: The way you asked that, I have a feeling I didn'T.

Chelsea: No. I mean, it all sounds fantastic, max -- peachy, even -- and it would be if you had even just thought to ask me about it first.

Stephanie: I'm sorry, lexie. Philip shouldn't have spoken to you that way.

Lexie: Hey, hey, it's okay. I completely understand how he feels. Don't worry about it, okay?

Stephanie: Okay. Thank you.

Lexie: Yeah. Uh, stephanie... you, uh, experienced something awfully brutal. Would you like for me to set up an appointment with someone you can talk to? I mean, I know some doctors who specialize in situations like yours.

Stephanie: No, no. That's not necessary.

Lexie: No?

Stephanie: No. I'm -- I'm fine. I'm just fine.

Lexie: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You look it. Come on. You are just fine. Why don't you sit down?

E.J.: I can't help but feeling that if I...handled the business with titan better -- you know, been a brother to tony -- we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

Stefano: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, elvis. No. [Chuckles] You leave the regrets and the recriminations to me, huh? All you have to do is focus on what needs to be done.

E.J.: Look, I know you don't want to hear this, but, uh [Sighs] Given the extra security at the hospital... all plans for philip, you know, are gonna have to be put on hold.

Stefano: Well, I mean, it's not as if he's lying around a pool having a mai tai. He is in the hospital. He is in pain, and he knows exactly what is coming.

E.J.: Unless a golden opportunity presents itself, I'll just work on maintaining the status quo. How are you gonna do this, father? Bo has your passport. It's in the system. That means that every airport, private and -- and public, is gonna be looking for you.

Stefano: That's not a problem.

Sami: [Gasps]

Rafe: Hey.

Sami: Hey.

Rafe: It seems I-I missed my flight.

Sami: You -- you did?

Rafe: I do this all the time. I never give myself enough time to get to the airport. Uh...

Sami: Well, you should be more punctual -- you know? -- More organized, like me.

Rafe: Right.

Sami: Are -- are you waiting for the next flight? No?

Rafe: So, okay, there's this girl, and she has, uh, commitments, and so she has to stay here in salem, and so she can't go to new york. So if I was to go to new york, then we wouldn't be in the same city.

Sami: And -- and that will bother you?

Rafe: Well, I told myself it wouldn't, but, um, I think I was lying to myself. In fact... I think it would kill me.

Sami: Well, I think you should call her. I think you should tell her, 'cause -- 'cause I think she'd be really happy to hear it. In fact, I think it would be the best news she's heard in a really long time.

Rafe: Oh, God.

Sami: [Inhales sharply]

[Sniffles]

Rafe: You -- do you know how happy I was to see you?

Sami: No. No, 'cause you didn't act happy, 'cause you were mean and arguing with me forever.

Rafe: Because I'm a guy, okay?

Sami: And that means you don't have to be human, be nice? You have to make me grovel...

Rafe: What do I have to do to shut you up?

Max: Chelsea --

Chelsea: Max --

Max: Look, can I talk, please, first? It's confusing -- like we -- we don't even know how... involved we are, you know? And it's weird. Like, some stupid letter that didn't really mean anything, you know, it -- it -- it meant a lot.

Chelsea: Because?

Max: 'Cause we kind of got into a fight about it, and then I realized that...

Chelsea: That what?

Max: The truth is... I'm not sure I can leave you.

Lexie: Here, sweetheart. Here's some water.

Stephanie: Thank you.

Lexie: Mm-hmm. I was looking over philip's chart, and his prognosis is excellent.

Stephanie: That's great.

Lexie: Yeah. Yeah. Which, uh, leads to a pretty big question, like...what are you gonna do when he's released from the hospital? The kiriakises, the dimeras -- i mean, they -- they carry a lot of baggage.

Stephanie: And guns.

Lexie: And guns.

Stephanie: I don't know what we're gonna do.

Lexie: Hmm. Well, if you need anything -- i mean, I know that philip doesn't trust me.

Stephanie: Well, he's wrong.

Lexie: Well, if you need any help --

[Pager ringing]

Lexie: Oh. I've got to go. Listen, you -- you call me if you need anything, and think about what I said about making an appointment with someone to talk to, okay?

Stephanie: Thank you.

Lexie: You take care or yourself, okay? Okay.

Stephanie: Hey. It's me. I need your help.

E.J.: So, how do you propose you're gonna get to brunei? It's a long walk.

Stefano: [Sighs] I thought we discussed sarcasm.

E.J.: We didn't discuss how you were going to get out of here.

Stefano: All right. [Exhales deeply] I said that I am not gonna be the one who is gonna go through the airport security, but [Exhales deeply] this man will. As you can see, I have a very marked resemblance to mr. Rossi.

E.J.: Nicely done.

Stefano: Ah, it should be. [Chuckles] It cost me a bleeding fortune.

E.J.: I still want your bodyguards to go with you.

Stefano: Uh, no. No. They would attract too much attention.

E.J.: Right.

Stefano: All right. I have to pack a few things. Okay? [Chuckles] Oh, by the way... do me a favor, will you, please? Take a lot of pictures of little sydney, because... I'm -- I'm gonna miss her a lot.

E.J.: I will.

Stefano: Oh, and, uh, in just a few minutes, you're gonna be in control.

E.J.: Yeah.

Stefano: You earned it.

E.J.: I wanted this, tony... but not like this.

Sami: Hey, hey, let's, uh -- let's go home.

Rafe: Sometimes you have the best ideas.

Max: I'm not sure I can do this, chelsea -- not without you. It's -- whatever -- what can i say?

Chelsea: I think that you can. I think that you can do anything. Okay. If -- if you get accepted, you need to go... if not for you, then your family. Just think how proud grandpa would be.

Max: [Chuckles] Okay, so best-case scenario -- if I get into salem, then I stay here, and then you and I can keep sailing along the way we have been. And then if I don't, then we kind of figure it out then.

Chelsea: Max...

Max: Yeah?

Chelsea: Um, when you brought up chicago before...

Max: Mm-hmm.

Chelsea: ...It just surprised me -- that's all. I mean, if -- if you got accepted there -- well, you know how I feel about the cubs.

Max: Are you saying...

Chelsea: Yeah, I am.

Max: [Chuckles]

Chelsea: I don't know exactly when it happened, but, yeah, i wouldn't want to be here without you.

Max: You know, that's like -- that's a -- that's a big step, you know?

Chelsea: Is that too big for you?

Max: No, no. I was -- I asked -- I asked you to come.

Chelsea: No, I know, but you asked me because you had to. I don't want to hold you to that.

Max: Well, I wish you would. Do you ever think about, like, us having our own place?

Chelsea: Do you?

Max: I asked you first.

Chelsea: Um, yeah.

Max: Mm-hmm.

Chelsea: But, I mean, like, when a-a girl admits that, doesn't it usually mean that she's, like, trying to get the guy to be all tied down? I mean, that's where the phrase "she's picking out curtains" comes from, right?

Max: Actually, when I think about it --

Chelsea: You think about it? You do?

Max: Mm-hmm. And when I think about it, curtains don't really come into mind, all right? I just think it would be great if I opened up my eyes and you were there.

Chelsea: I feel the same way.

Max: I was hoping you'd say that. I really was.

Chelsea: Good.

Stephanie: Thank you so much. Lexie said you're gonna be just fine. You don't have anything to worry about. I'm gonna take care of both of us.

Stefano: [Exhales deeply] [Clears throat] Elvis, I'm at the airport. I don't think we were followed, and I got through security fine. Yeah, I'm gonna board the plane now. I don't think we have very much to worry about. Ciao.

Rafe: Wow. Whoa.

Brady: If I never hear the words "nicole dimera" again, i think I'll be better off.

Will: Why are you so closed up?

Hope: That family will destroy you. They'll chew you up, and they'll spit you out.

Sami: I don't know how many different ways you need me to say this to you, E.J. I am not in love with you.
