[Knock on door]

Sami: I might have.

Sister Agnes: Rafe.

Rafe: Sister Agnes. Hey. Uh, is sister Theresa around?

Sister Agnes: No, she's working at the food bank today, but, uh, she'll be back later if you want to wait.

Rafe: Um, no. Maybe I'll just head out. Thanks anyway.

Sister Agnes: I-is there something I could do to help?

Rafe: Hmm. Maybe there is. See, the -- the problem is I'm facing a major dilemma, and I'm not sure how to handle it.

Sister Agnes: Well, uh, is it something to do with Samantha Brady?

Rafe: It's everything to do with Sami. See, the thing is, uh, I think we're through.

Nicole: For the last time, is the wedding on or not?

E.J.: Nicole, we're just -- we're gonna have to see what tomorrow brings. Give me some time, and I will let you know.

Nicole: E.J., You'll let me know? I mean, that's like waiting to see if a dress has come in in my size. This is our lives we're talking about.

E.J.: I'm well aware of what we're talking about, thank you. I'll see you later.

Nicole: No, E.J., Wait. Please, wait. Just... remember when we said we would never go to bed angry? Don't you think tonight we should obey that rule?

E.J.: Look, I'm not angry with you. I just need some time to think.

Nicole: E.J., No. Don't go. Don't. I will not let you walk out on me.

E.J.: It-- it's my call, Nicole.

Nicole: E.J.

E.J.: It's not your choice. I'm sorry. I'm calling the shots here.

Announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

Sister Agnes: So, sister Theresa was giving advice to Sami about Grace.

Rafe: Yes, and how it was important for Sami to come clean and tell the baby's father about her.

Sister Agnes: Ohh, I see.

Rafe: Yeah, and considering who the father is, well, with all due respect to sister Theresa, it's probably the worst advice she's ever given.

Sister Agnes: Now, surely sister Theresa was not telling Sami to do anything that she wasn't already considering.

Rafe: No, but she was. I'm telling you, Sami has been determined to keep the truth from the father about this baby since she was born.

Sister Agnes: Yes, but that was when she was away from it all. But now, when she's in Salem...

Rafe: What?

Sister Agnes: I think she looks at things more realistically.

Rafe: And realizes that the father should know who his child is.

Sister Agnes: Well, yes, that would be the case.

Rafe: Makes sense to me. I've said it myself numerous times. The father should know about his own child.

Sister Agnes: Oh, but you changed your mind?

Rafe: Yes, I changed my mind for good reason.

Sister Agnes: Well... Rafe, what is the main reason you're having such a hard time with this?

Rafe: The main reason?

Sister Agnes: Is it because you want to be the person in Sami's heart and not the baby's father?

Caroline: So, who was it you were hoping was at the door?

Sami: What?

Caroline: Well, you were disappointed it was me. I saw that.

Sami: No. No, grandma, that is not true.

Caroline: Sami. Who were you expecting?

Sami: Well, I wasn't expecting anyone. I just was hoping it would be Rafe.

Caroline: Oh.

Sami: He, um -- he left angry. We had a fight, and I guess I just said some things I wish I could take back.

Caroline: Well, you know, it's never too late to apologize.

Sami: Um, hey, I wanted to ask you something about, um, uncle Bo. Never mind.

Caroline: No, what -- what were you gonna ask?

Sami: Um... look, I know it's none of my business, and we've never really talked about this and it's sort of private, but I guess I just want to ask you about... about uncle Bo and, um, how you kept the truth from him about his father for all those years.

Caroline: Well, it's really simple, you know? I didn't tell my son because... I was foolish, I was selfish, and very, very wrong.

Nicole: I don't call the shots? Damn, and here I thought I had control over you.

E.J.: Nicole, please. Can you just dispense with the sarcasm?

Nicole: How about you dispense with the cruelty, keeping me wondering if you're gonna marry me when our wedding is tomorrow.

E.J.: I'm sorry, Nicole, if my life has just changed significantly, but my brother died. It had quite a significant impact on me... one, frankly, I'm rather disappointed that you don't seem to understand.

Nicole: E.J., I-I do. I do. I'm sorry.

E.J.: Nicole, I just think it's best that you give me a little time to go and think somewhere because if you want me to make a decision right now... it's gonna be something impulsive, and I don't think it's something that you are gonna like, so let's just talk later, okay?

Nicole: [Crying] Oh, E.J., I... oh. [Sobbing]

Kate: Chelse... sorry I had to run out on you. Emergency... at work.

Irene: A little nervous, yeah. Because I'm not used to being fixed up, and I just... no, no. I'm very much looking forward to it, Maggie, and I thank you for arranging it. We did, yes. Daniel and I spoke at the benefit, but, uh, he was a little distant, and I was my usual shy self, so it ended there. [Laughs] Not at all hard to look at. I agree. Of course I'll let you know how it goes. You'll be the first to know. You, too, Maggie. And thanks again. Okay.

Kate: Excuse me. I don't mean to bother you, but I couldn't help but overhear.

Irene: Overhear?

Kate: I overheard your half of the conversation. Are you being fixed up with a Dr. Daniel Jonas? I heard you mention a Daniel.

Irene: Uh, well, yes. You know him?

Kate: Yes, I do. Quite well. And I think there's something that you should know about him, too.

Chloe: This is really important to me.

Lucas: Yeah, well, you're really important to me. You're really important to Allie, too. I mean, doesn't that factor into this? Doesn't that play a role in your decision at all?

Chloe: I don't know what I'm supposed to say to that.

Lucas: Tell me you're not gonna go. Tell me you're not gonna take this job.

Rafe: Maybe I should just come to terms with the fact that Sami and I aren't meant to be together, just put my head down and move on.

Sister Agnes: What do you mean you and Sami...shouldn't be together? According to sister Theresa, that young woman is crazy about you.

Rafe: Crazy about me. [Scoffs] Yeah, right. She enjoys being around me, sometimes, and she said that I make her feel safe. But the bottom line is she's in love with someone else.

Sister Agnes: The baby's father?

Rafe: Yeah.

Sister Agnes: And you know this, hmm? How?

Rafe: Instinct.

Sister Agnes: If you love Sami, fight for her.

Sami: Oh, come on, grandma. You are incapable of being selfish.

Caroline: Oh, well, I am. I was really capable of it then. It was all about me protecting myself. If I had it to do over... I would have been honest from the beginning, damn the consequences, because secrets and lies are nothing but destructive and hurtful.

Sami: Right.

Caroline: And the truth always comes out. I mean, you can pick the time or place, or you can live in fear, waiting for the moment that it happens. But make no mistake. It always happens.

Brady: Sit down and tell me what happened.

Nicole: Oh, Brady. I really screwed things up, and there's no turning back for me now. And my survival instincts are completely shot, and now it's just a downward spiral.

Brady: Nicole, no more self-flagellation. Just tell me what happened.

Nicole: [Sighs] E.J. Saw Stephanie talking to me. And she was just thanking me for telling the cops the truth about Philip.

Brady: She thanked you.

Nicole: Yes. Yes, that's what I said.

Brady: And that -- I'm sorry, and that ruined everything?

Nicole: [Sighs] E.J. Saw it as proof of my loyalty to the Kiriakis family and that I betrayed him.

Brady: That's ridiculous.

Nicole: Yes, it is ridiculous. That's the final nail in the coffin. And now E.J. Can do whatever he wants to do, and that's getting rid of me.

Brady: You didn't do anything wrong.

Nicole: Whatever, Brady. However I got to this point, it doesn't matter anymore. Our relationship is over. It's finished.

Brady: He's not the right man for you, and he does not deserve you.

Nicole: Brady, you're out of your mind. I will not give up on E.J. Do you understand me? Whether he deserves me or not, I will be E.J. DiMera's wife.

Irene: I'm sorry. Do I know you?

Kate: Who I am isn't important. It's Dr. Jonas who is the popular one.

Irene: Okay, now I'm officially confused.

Kate: Yes, and understandably so, although confused isn't what you should be. The word is really "wary."

Irene: Of Dr. Jonas.

Kate: Daniel gets around, okay? I am sure you've heard the expression "the gift that keeps on giving"?

Irene: [Laughing] Okay, what in the -- why are you saying these things?

Kate: I'm trying to be a good Samaritan. I am not a stranger to Daniel's bedside manner.

Irene: I've heard enough.

Kate: All I can say is thank God he's a doctor because if he can't cure it, at least he can give you a prescription to help ease the discomfort.

Chloe: Look, Lucas, the last thing I'd ever want to do is let you or your mom down, but what am I supposed to do, give up the opportunity of a lifetime so that I can host a talk show?

Lucas: I'm not asking you to flip burgers, am I? Do you have any idea how many people would love to host this talk show?

Chloe: I know. But singing is what I do. It's what I love to do. Please try to understand that.

Daniel: Look, I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but overhear. I just wanted to say congratulations, Chloe. That's great news about Vancouver.

Chloe: Thank you, Daniel.

Daniel: I hope it all works out.

Chloe: Me too.

Daniel: Well, um, take care.

Lucas: Well, you know, what's your rush? Why don't you join us? Take a seat.

Rafe: No, not gonna fight a losing battle. Been there, done that.

Sister Agnes: So, you're just going to give up, then. That doesn't sound like you.

Rafe: Look, sister, I -- the father of this baby, this guy, he's got -- it's like a magic spell he's got Sami under. And now they've got two kids.

Sister Agnes: Before you throw in the towel, why don't you talk to her?

Rafe: Yeah, about what?

Sister Agnes: Well, tell her how you feel. What have you got to lose? Don't you run away. Now, whatever happens with Sami, Salem is your home. You belong here.

Sami: Okay. Well, thank you for coming by. You know, I appreciate talking to you. I hope you know that.

Caroline: I just love you, Sami.

Sami: Grandma, I love you, too. I love you so much. And I hope you come back anytime. You're always welcome.

Caroline: Oh, be careful what you ask for.

Sami: [Laughs] Wow, look at all this stuff you left me with. I love it.

Caroline: [Laughing] Good. Um, Sami, good luck with your young man. I hope everything works out fine. Bye.

Sami: I hope so, too.

Nicole: Look, I don't care. I don't care if this is wrong. I don't care if -- if this whole thing is built on a lie.

Brady: Oh, yeah. That's -- that's great. That's really healthy. Keep up the great, amazing work on that, Nicole.

Nicole: Sarcasm is not what I need right now.

Brady: I don't know how else to get through to you. I'm sorry. I just -- I mean, this -- this thing with you is getting insane, don't you think? The lies, the complex schemes, the panicking, the constant worry. Nicole, I don't want to see you go through that anymore.

Nicole: But what am I supposed to do now? I mean, I can't go back. I don't get a do-over.

Brady: No. No, you don't. But you can still be honest. If you really want to give this marriage a shot, you can come clean, and you can tell E.J. The truth.

Daniel: Well, I appreciate the offer, but I can't stay. I'm meeting someone.

Lucas: Oh, what do you got? You got a big date or something?

Daniel: Yes, a date.

Lucas: Well, that's good. Good for you. You finally get a break from your job. That's nice.

[Pager ringing]

Daniel: Uh-oh. Apparently, the hospital doesn't think so. Excuse me.

Lucas: Oh, you know what? There's my mom. I'm gonna go say hi to her. I'll be right back.

Chloe: Yeah, I'll be here.

Irene: Chloe, hey.

Chloe: Irene, hi. Oh, my gosh. It's so good to see you.

Irene: It's been ages, huh?

Chloe: Yeah, well, a couple of years anyway.

Irene: You doing okay?

Chloe: Yeah, really great. What about you? Are you still working at the hospital?

Irene: Are you kidding? I practically live there.

Chloe: Ah. Seems to be a common theme.

Irene: Although I'm on a break right now. I'm supposed to be meeting someone here.

Chloe: Oh, like, a date?

Irene: Yeah. Semi-blind. This man and I know each other casually, but someone fixed us up.

Chloe: Oh, uh, wait a minute. Is your date with Daniel Jonas?

Irene: You know him?

[Knock on door]

Sami: Hey, hold on. Rafe. You're back.

Rafe: Is that okay?

Sami: Yeah. No, of course. Come in. Sorry.

Rafe: Where are the kids?

Sami: Um, they, uh -- they're actually sleeping. They needed a nap. Listen, I...

Rafe: Me too.

Sami: You didn't even know what I was gonna say.

Rafe: I just -- I hated the way that we left things, and there's something that I want to say.

Sami: Okay.

Rafe: I'm sorry.

Sami: [Sighs]

E.J.: Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm sorry.

Mia: Don't even worry about it. I should have been looking where I was going.

E.J.: My fault. I'll get you another one.

Mia: No, no, really. You don't have to do that.

E.J.: Please, I insist. It's fine.

Nicole: Tell the truth. Yeah, that's a great idea. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Brady: That's what I would like to know.

Nicole: I'll tell you why. Because the truth isn't an option anymore, Brady. All the truth is gonna get me now is alone and miserable, back in the gutter, or worse.

Brady: You don't know that.

Nicole: Yes, I do know that. Stefano hates me. And that is pretty much grounds for wearing a bulletproof vest. And E.J... the apple doesn't fall far.

Brady: I won't let anybody hurt you. I won't. I'll protect you.

Nicole: No. No way. I would -- I would never ask you to take on that burden.

Brady: It wouldn't be a burden. It would be an honor.

Nicole: You have been a great friend, Brady. Like I said. And I know that you would protect me with everything you had, but...

Brady: But?

Nicole: Our time has passed.

Brady: Oh. You -- oh. You think that -- you're suggesting that you and I -- no, no, no. Listen, I know that you love E.J. I do. This is just about helping you. That's all. As a friend.

Nicole: And you have helped me, more than you know. But I can't take your advice, Brady, not this time.

Brady: So you're just gonna keep up with the lies. Is that it?

Nicole: No, I -- I just need to find a way to remind E.J. Why he fell in love with me before it's too late, before... ugh, that bitch!

Brady: What? What bitch?

Nicole: Sami. I am not gonna let her come between us. I am not gonna let her dig her claws into E.J.

Sami: Listen, I-I'm actually the one who should apologize to you.

Rafe: No, you shouldn't. No. No way.

Sami: Wait, stop it. Okay, just listen to me. Hear me out. Come here. Sit down. I've been really conflicted, okay, and -- and not sure what to do about E.J. And whether or not I should tell him the truth about Grace. But -- but you're the one I should be listening to.

Rafe: No, that's -- see, that's exactly where you're wrong. I've been pushy and irrational and selfish.

Sami: What are you talking about, Rafe?

Rafe: Could you just hear me out now? Okay?

Sami: Sorry.

Rafe: See, I've always believed that the truth is the best way to go about doing things, but for some reason, I've been giving you the opposite advice. I don't even know where to begin to try and understand what you were going through with Grace. And, yeah, so maybe E.J. And the DiMeras are seriously evil people. But, hey, at one point, you loved the guy, right, I mean, enough to have a baby with him. On some level, it makes sense as to why you'd want to tell him. Listen, the bottom line is that it's not my place to tell you what to do. It's your life, and it's your decision, and you need to do what feels right.

Brady: Do you hear yourself?

Nicole: What, I can't talk about Sami Brady anymore?

Brady: Ugh! Sami Brady isn't the problem, Nicole.

Nicole: You know what? You're right. You're absolutely right. Forget about Sami. I'm gonna focus on E.J. And you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna tell you exactly what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna march over there, and I'm gonna him a piece of my mind.

Brady: No, you're not. No.

Nicole: What?

Brady: I heard what E.J. Was saying, all right? If you go over there and you try to harass him, you're only gonna alienate him more.

Nicole: Okay, then I will give him his space, just like he asked.

Brady: Exactly.

Nicole: God, I can't. I can't do that.

Brady: You can't? Then you need to be prepared to lose him. Look, if he loves you -- I mean, if he really loves you, he'll be able to clear his head. And he will realize that you are the woman that he wants to spend the rest of his life with, and everything will straighten itself out.

Nicole: [Sighs] But what am I supposed to do now? I mean, right now, Brady?

Brady: Right now, you're supposed to go home and chill out.

Nicole: Okay. I, uh... I'll do that. Thank you. I know I have been an impossible human being. And you are such a saint to deal with me. I don't know how I'm gonna repay you. Um... I'll call you later.

Brady: Anytime.

Lucas: Mom.

Kate: Hi, sweetie.

Lucas: Hey. Are you spying on us?

Kate: No, I am not spying on you. You know, I started to go in there, I saw you, and...

Lucas: Uh-huh. And?

Kate: And I remembered that you wanted to have your private time with Chloe, so I left.

Lucas: Mom?

Kate: What? And I'm out here trying to order take-out from that sushi place on main, and you think that means I'm spying on you?

Lucas: Well... I'm sorry.

Kate: It's okay. You don't have to apologize.

Lucas: It's not like I don't want to see you or anything.

Kate: I know that, okay? I know you want your space, and I'm gonna give it to you.

Lucas: Okay, good. I just want you to know I love you. That's all.

Kate: Oh, honey. I know you love me. I love you, too.

Lucas: Okay. I better get back in there.

Kate: Go. Go.

Lucas: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. About Chloe.

Kate: What about Chloe?

Lucas: Well, she got a gig at the Vancouver opera, so apparently she's gonna be doing a lot of traveling.

Kate: No, she can't.

Chloe: Yeah, I know Dr. Jonas. He's my doctor. He's a really great guy.

Irene: Is he?

Chloe: Yeah. Why are you asking me like that?

Irene: I heard a rumor.

Chloe: Really?

Irene: Yeah, that he gets around, spreads himself thin.

Chloe: Daniel? No way. That's exactly what you said it was, a rumor -- a very nasty rumor. Who told you that?

Irene: This woman who claims to know him very well. She said he was a dog, that he'll sleep with anyone.

Sami: What are you saying?

Rafe: I'm saying that I've been the one who's clouding your judgment and needs to stop. You're Grace's mother. This is your decision.

Sami: I don't know what decision to make. I am totally lost.

Rafe: Come on. Listen, if E.J. Was just some sort of crook, you'd be done with it. It'd be over. know, he's not. He's rich and he's powerful and he's...

Sami: And what?

Rafe: And you love him.

Sami: [Scoffs] I don't even know how to respond to that.

Rafe: Yeah, but you know what to do, and you know what you're gonna do, so why don't you just get on with it? Think about it. You could get E.J. Back and blow Nicole out of the water at the same time.

Nicole: E.J.? [Sighs] Oh, no, Nicole. Don't be an idiot. You need to keep a clear head. You need to stay focused. [Exhales deeply] Well... maybe one drink wouldn't hurt. Ohh. Maybe a little sleep wouldn't hurt, either. [Glass thuds]

Fr. Matt: Do you, Nicole walker, take Elvis Aaron DiMera to be your lawfully wedded husband?

Nicole: I do.

Fr. Matt: And do you, Elvis Aaron DiMera, take Nicole walker to be your lawfully wedded wife?

E.J.: No, I do not.

Nicole: What?

E.J.: I'm taking Samantha as my wife, Nicole. My sincere apologies.

Nicole: Sami? Why?

E.J.: Because she has candor and honesty -- qualities, unfortunately, you're seriously lacking.

Nicole: But, E.J., You can't. We have a child together.

Dr. Baker: The hell you do.

Sami: E.J. And I have more than one child together. We have two. This is the latest addition to our beautiful family.

E.J.: Samantha, what are you talking about? That's my child?

Dr. Baker: No, that baby would be hers.

Sami: What?

Mia: She belongs to me, Nicole.

E.J.: What the hell is going on?

Dr. Baker: There was a switch at the clinic. Nicole swapped Mia's baby with Sami and yours.

Sami: Well, then who the hell has my baby?

E.J.: Don't you dare.

Sami: What?! Nicole, you give me my baby. Give her back.

E.J.: Nicole, put her down.

Sami: Nicole, give me my daughter. Give her to me.

E.J.: She's not your baby.

Brady: The woman's insane.

Nicole: Everyone, stay away from me. She's mine! Get away from me!

Nicole: No. I can't let it happen. I won't.

Lucas: Mom, don't.

Kate: What is this woman thinking?

Lucas: Here we go again.

Kate: Is she out of her mind?

Lucas: She is not out of her mind. She just got offered a lead in an opera -- a lead. Don't you get that?

Kate: Yeah, well, she made a promise to me. Don't you get that? Your bride is working for hearth and home now.

Lucas: Right. Right. And that's fine. It really is. Actually, we were thinking that...

Kate: Oh, well, see, that's always the first mistake.

Lucas: ...Maybe you could tape her segments, all right? Work around her opera schedule. You could do that.

Kate: Okay, I see. So we have to be horribly inconvenienced so she can sing her little heart out.

Lucas: I owe her this. I know you don't think I do, but I do, all right? She's my number-one priority. I want to make sure that she's happy. I want to help her make her dreams come true. Don't you want your daughter-in-law to be happy?

Kate: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I do, especially because she's so selfless and loyal.

Lucas: Well, good, 'cause this could work. I'm telling you. It'll be a little crazy with the scheduling. She might get a little fatigued with all the traveling, but she swears that she's gonna take great care of herself.

Kate: Yeah, well, she always does.

Lucas: Yeah. All right, I got to get in there.

[Door closes]

Kate: Fatigued with all the traveling.

[Sighs] A little fatigue would weaken the immune system. Maybe this Vancouver thing isn't such a bad idea.

Brady: For you, mom. I have a feeling that if you were here... you would know what I should do about Nicole.

E.J.: There we are. Large soy latte, splash of caramel.

Mia: Thank you.

E.J.: Once again, I'm sorry. My mind's elsewhere.

Mia: Don't even worry about it.

E.J.: Okay, well, you have a nice day.

Mia: You too. Oh, my God. Nicole's fiancÚ. My baby's father.

Nicole: Mm. [Coughs] Damn you, Sami. You're driving me to drink. Even in my dreams, you get E.J.'S attention. Yeah. Blottle bond. [Laughs] [Snorts] "Blottle bond." Bottle blonde. [Sighs] But if he ever found out that you have a kid together... no, no. No. No way, Sami. You're toast. T-o-s-T. Ooh.

Sami: I don't even know where this is coming from. I am not in love with E.J. This is about Grace.

Rafe: You expect me to buy that?

Sami: Okay, so, yes, E.J. And I have a bond, but it's because of the kids we share, you know?

Rafe: You bonded with a guy who doesn't even know he has a daughter with you.

Sami: Rafe.

Rafe: D-- this is exactly what I'm talking about. I need to stop interfering with your life.

Sami: Rafe, you are not interfering.

Rafe: No, I am, and I need to stop, okay? I can't do this anymore. I'm not gonna be your crutch.

Sami: Wait a second. Hey. Listen to me. You are not walking out on me again.

Daniel: Hey, Irene.

Irene: Daniel.

Daniel: Sorry I'm late. I had an emergency at the hospital, and I didn't have your cellphone number.

Irene: It's okay. I was about to leave anyway.

Daniel: Leave?

Irene: This -- this isn't a good idea. Maggie was very nice to think of it, but it's just not...

Daniel: But it's just not what?

Irene: We work together. It's not cool, you know?

Daniel: It's only a drink.

Irene: Sorry. No hard feelings, huh? I'll see you at the hospital.

Daniel: Sure.

Lucas: So, you ready to hit the road, celebrate your Canadian debut, your future stardom?

Chloe: Yeah, let's go.

Lucas: Okay, let's do it.

Kate: One bird down. One songbird to go.

Brady: So, if you're listening... maybe you can help me find a way to make Nicole see that E.J. Isn't the man for her... that there's someone else.

Sami: Wait, we have to discuss this.

Rafe: There's nothing left to discuss, Sami.

Sami: Are you kidding me? You can't -- stop it, Rafe. Stop trying to leave. You can't walk out on me like that. You're not gonna walk out on Grace.

Rafe: It's for the best.

Sami: Stop saying that.

Rafe: Listen, Sami, I've done all I can to help you, okay? I can't do anything anymore.

Sami: What are you talking about?

Rafe: Goodbye, okay?

Sami: Rafe, look, this isn't goodbye, okay?

Nicole: Oh, my God. That's him. I know that guy.

Will: Nicole walker has major issues. I mean, I'm talking about serious issues.

Melanie: You're still in love with that awful woman, aren't you?

Nicole: This guy Rafe -- I met him before, right here in this house.

Sami: No matter what I decide with E.J., you're not gonna leave Salem.
