Melanie: There's a way you can solve everything, Philip. Get you back on the saddle. Titan will be king of the hill. You just got to make a simple gesture of good faith.
Melanie: Get rid of a certain somebody who doesn't believe in you. If I know we could work together, if I could trust you.
Philip: That's not gonna happen, Melanie.
Melanie: Well, that's a shame. 'Cause you could have everything, Philip -- money, power.
Philip: As if I'd give up Stephanie for you and for a project I already control.
Melanie: Then your loss is E.J. DiMera's gain.
E.J.: Oh. I didn't realize you were up here. It's a little early for going to bed, isn't it?
Nicole: A little, I guess.
E.J.: Hi, Nicole.
Nicole: Make love to me, E.J. Now.
E.J.: Sweetheart... you know we can't do that. You just had a baby. I mean, it's...too soon, right?
Nicole: Yes. Yes, of course. Yeah, well, in the traditional sense.
E.J.: [Snorts] "The traditional sense."
Nicole: Yes, I mean -- well, you know -- what I'm trying to say is making love, it's not just about the sex.
E.J.: Yeah, that's news to me.
Nicole: You know what I mean.
E.J.: Uh-huh. Nine months -- now she figures it out. [Both laugh]
Nicole: Well, what do you say?
E.J.: I say we can lie on the bed if you'd like and be excruciatingly frustrated by each other. How about that?
E.J.: She has more in mind.
Nicole: Maybe I do. Walk this way. Just lay down there, buddy. [Chuckles]
Bo: What happened in there? Fancy face, wait. I -- I'm sorry this happened.
Hope: So am I.
Max: Just what? I mean, more than friends? I mean, is that what you're saying?
Chelsea: Max, I shouldn't have to ask. You should just know. I mean, are you really that clueless, or do I have to spell it out for you?
Max: "Spell it out"? I'm just asking.
Chelsea: Do you really want to know? Yes, okay? I do. I have feelings for you, and why wouldn't I? I'm a normal person with normal needs. Why wouldn't I want something more? My God, I'm sorry. I -- I don-- don't even ask me where that came from. I'm -- I mean, I'm just in a weird mood, I guess.
Max: Okay, so you didn't mean it?
Chelsea: No. It was nothing. It just sort of, um --
Max: What, slipped out?
Chelsea: Yeah, no, it slipped out. That's good. We'll go with that. I'm gonna have some dessert. How about you?
Max: Okay, um, so we're just gonna move on from you telling me that you --
Chelsea: I wasn't telling you. I was blabbing. I was venting. It didn't mean anything. You know, wasn't making any sense, which is very typical of me. So, um...how about the chocolate cake?
Max: Not for me, no.
Chelsea: Then, uh, you know what? I'm gonna pass, too. Anyway, um, we were talking about Stephanie before, I think, and, uh, about how worried you are that she's with Philip or something.
Max: Actually, I think we were talking about how I was acting like a jerk by bad-mouthing Philip to her and then you accused me of still being hung up on her.
Chelsea: Yeah, well, uh, I didn't have a right to accuse you of anything, really. I mean, if you still have feelings for her, romantically...
Max: I don't.
Chelsea: ...Then that's the way it is because you can't really choose who you like. You can't really control your feelings.
Max: Right, I ca--
Max: You're not listening to me.
Max: Just now. I j-- I just said that I'm not into Stephanie romantically, not anymore.
Chelsea: Okay. On second thought, I think I am gonna have a dessert.
Max: [Clears throat] But I do agree with you about the feelings.
Chelsea: Fruit cup would be way too boring.
Max: Uh, Chelse.
Chelsea: Rice pudding? Ugh.
Max: Chelsea. You're still not listening.
Chelsea: I am. I was. Um...these ones...
Max: The feelings.
Chelsea: Yeah. What kind of feelings are you feeling?
Max: They're the out-of-control kind.
Chelsea: I see.
Max: And that's fine. Because, I mean, I-I-I don't mind them being out of control. I actually like them.
Chelsea: You like them?
Chelsea: These feelings that you're having.
Max: Right. For you.
Stephanie: I'm really proud of you, mom.
Kayla: Well, hope needed me. I couldn't let her down.
Steve: You spoke the truth at that hearing. That's gonna go a long way.
Kayla: Why haven't we heard anything?
Stephanie: You don't really think the I.A. Will suspend her, do you? I mean, my God, she saved your life.
Steve: Well, you know, it's about procedure. Whenever a cop shoots someone, even if it's by accident, they have to investigate, take some action.
Stephanie: So you're saying aunt hope could really lose her badge.
Kayla: That could be the least of it.
Stephanie: What do you mean "the least of it"?
Kayla: It's not the loss of her badge I'm worried about.
Philip: You are playing a dangerous game, Melanie.
Melanie: Speaking of game, your new girlfriend sure has affected yours.
Philip: You don't know a damn thing about Stephanie.
Melanie: I know she won't accept you for who you are. And you're about to blow everything for her, which is really kind of sad.
Philip: You know what's sad, is that ever since you got to Salem, all you've done is make trouble. Everyone despises you.
Melanie: Not everybody. I think you, for one, appreciate my many attributes.
Philip: [Chuckles] "Many"? I can't think of a single one.
Melanie: I accept you for who you are. Does that not count for anything? My nonjudgmentalness. Is that even a word? Look, I like all your sides. Stephanie only likes the nice one, and that's not even you anyways. That's beside the point.
Philip: You don't have a point.
Melanie: If you'd listen to me, you'd see my point is I like mean and ruthless Philip. In fact, he's my favorite side.
Philip: What a waste of time.
Melanie: Philip, I've accepted you since the moment I saw you. You and I are like two of a kind. God knows perfect doesn't exist, okay? But I think you and I together would come pretty damn close.
Philip: You are out of your mind. Do you know that?
Melanie: I know that's your way of avoiding the truth -- calling me crazy and making fun of me. But I see in your eyes that you're with me, too. You know I'm right.
Philip: I'm out of here.
Melanie: Please. Show Stephanie the door and all of your worries about E.J. DiMera and the fuels project will disappear. And instead of having a girlfriend who judges you, you'll have a lot of money and the respect of your father and me, who likes you just the way you are.
Nicole: [Smooches] You see, I told you there are ways.
E.J.: Yeah, you, young lady, are very, very...creative. [Both laugh] Seriously...it is so good to hold you. Just to touch you.
Nicole: Uh-oh. Looks like our little munchkin is about to wake up.
E.J.: That's okay. I'll get a bottle.
Nicole: Oh, no, no, no. No, I have a little secret stash in the fridge in my closet. You stay here and relax, buckaroo.
E.J.: Okay. How you doing, sweetheart? You okay? Two minutes, promise you.
E.J.: E.J. DiMera.
Roman: E.J. -- Roman Brady. I just got your message. What's up?
E.J.: Roman. Yeah, um, listen, I'm just wondering what's going on with Samantha. Now, I told Johnny she'd be coming back soon. That little boy burst into tears. He misses her terribly.
Philip: You are a study. You really are. The totally insane things you say, the incredible audacity.
Melanie: You like the audacity. And you certainly prefer it to nice and boring, which is what Stephanie is. You're getting bored of her fast. I can tell. In fact, I'll bet one of these days real soon, you'll be saying, "Stephanie who?"
Stephanie: I don't get it. I mean, I always look at aunt hope and uncle Bo like you guys -- together forever, like nothing could ever break you apart. Why does it have to be so hard?
Steve: I'm sorry you're so hurt by this, baby.
Stephanie: It's not just this. It's everything.
Kayla: You know, last time that we talked about Philip and you, you said that you were gonna break up with him. Did you do that?
Stephanie: Not exactly.
Steve: Wait a minute. What did I miss here? Did this guy do something to hurt you?
Stephanie: No, no, relax. It's nothing like that. Philip can be an incredibly sweet and funny and giving and...
Stephanie: But I've seen this other side of him. This ruthless side. No, not with me. He's been great to me. It's just with business. Look, I know you guys don't like him and don't trust him or anything, but I really did believe that [Sighs] Forget it. It's obvious it's not meant to be.
Hope: I'm not trying to hurt you or punish you, but --
Bo: But I should have told you.
Hope: You knew I believed in these visions or premonitions. My God, Brady, every one had come true. Look, all I'm saying is that if I had known, or Kayla, we --
Bo: You tried to save Kayla's life.
Hope: Yeah, but instead I nearly killed her, didn't I? And for that, I'll never forgive myself.
Bo: Or me.
Chelsea: These feelings that you're having for me...
Max: You can't be that surprised.
Max: [Clears throat] I've been having them for a while now. And you're the one who said you just wanted to be friends and you weren't ready to -- to do any more. And I respected that. But just now, before when you were all mad at me because I didn't understand that you had needs and why wouldn't you want more, well, that kind of clued me in on that. And now things have changed. You too. But I mean, am I wrong?
Chelsea: No. It's just that, um, Stephanie had said to me that she would have a problem if you and I dated again.
Chelsea: She's my best friend.
Max: Then she should want you to be happy, Chelse.
Chelsea: But still, she's --
Max: Chelse, she's gonna have to get over that, okay? And you have to get over caring about what she or anybody else thinks. 'Cause this is between us. Nobody else. This is between you and me.
Max: You know [Chuckles] When I saw you on the pier with Theo that day and I saw, you know, how great you were with him, I realized how much of an amazing and beautiful person you are. And then I wondered, "how could I have ended us?" And then I was also thinking if I ever got you back...I'd never let you go again.
Philip: Okay, I knew you were delusional, but for you to ever think that I would get involved with a lying bitch like you is crazy.
Melanie: Philip, that is bad manners to say to my face.
Philip: It's a dead-on accurate description. And not that it's any of your business, but Stephanie and I are getting closer all the time.
Melanie: Oh, maybe in your dreams. In reality, whenever you two are together, she always looks a little nauseous. So do yourself and her a favor and set her free.
Philip: I don't need to make any deals with you. Titan controls the rights to the fuels project, and whatever you promised E.J. --
Melanie: Did I say I promised E.J. anything?
Philip: He calls, you lie about who it is, and I catch you in a secret powwow on the pier, with a big wad of cash in your purse.
Melanie: That doesn't prove a damn thing. And it's killing you.
Philip: You listen to me. You do anything to screw me over, screw Titan over, and I will do everything in my power to destroy you.
Melanie: God I hope so. [Chuckles]
E.J.: A delay.
Roman: We're just being cautious.
E.J.: Meaning you still think Samantha could be in danger.
Roman: Killer could have been working with other people.
E.J.: All right.
Roman: Okay, listen, I got to go. I'll call you back when I know more, okay?
E.J.: Okay, roman, I appreciate it. Thank you.
Nicole: So, what was that all about? Who were you talking to?
E.J.: It was roman. Just wondering when Samantha's coming home.
Nicole: "Coming home"? So does that mean --
E.J.: Yeah, they caught the killer.
Nicole: My God. That's good news.
E.J.: Yeah. They shot and killed him at university hospital. It happened a few days ago, actually.
Nicole: "A few days ago"? Why didn't you tell me?
E.J.: Well, sweetheart, we were going through all this stuff with Sydney, and I really didn't want to upset you.
Nicole: "Upset"? Well, come on. I mean, why -- why would I be upset? Just because as soon as that woman comes home, my peace of mind goes right out the window. I mean, just because Sami will take up your time -- I don't know -- every day of every night and I will be an afterthought yet again. No, why would I be upset? Really? In fact -- in fact, I can't wait for Samantha to come back to Salem and ruin my life. Hey, hey! I'll throw her a freakin' party! Whoo-hoo!
Philip: Oh, my God. Stephanie.
Stephanie: Hey, this is Stephanie. Please leave a message and I'll call you back.
Philip: Steph, hey. I am so sorry. I meant to come right back and I totally forgot. I feel terrible, but I'll make it up to you, okay? Uh, call me when you get this. I'll be at the office for a while. Damn you, Melanie.
Kayla: So, what happens now?
Steve: I'll tell you what happens now. She dumps the guy for good.
Steve: Well, if he doesn't have the sense enough to appreciate you, then to hell with him.
Stephanie: Did you not listen to what I just said? He hasn't done anything to hurt me personally.
Steve: Give him time. He will.
Stephanie: Okay, could you stop saying depressing things like that?
Steve: I'm sorry, baby. I just know how these guys operate.
Stephanie: Of course you do. You know everything.
Steve: I'm just trying to help you here.
Stephanie: It's not helping me when you treat me like a little kid and try to tell me what to do, especially when I already know what I need to do, and you'll be happy to hear that I'm -- just leave me alone, okay?
Steve: Baby, baby girl. I'm sorry. You're right. I shouldn't tell you what to do. I should have learned my lesson by now. And I know you'll make the right decision.
Stephanie: I've already made a decision. Philip and I are over, done. Happy?
Steve: I'm only happy if you're happy. That's all that matters to me. Oh, baby. Come here. I love you so much.
Stephanie: I love you. [Chuckles] Sorry. You know what? I'm gonna get out of the way. Mom, I'll check in on you tomorrow, okay?
Kayla: Okay, bye, baby.
Stephanie: Let me know how aunt hope is.
Kayla: I will.
Steve: See you, baby. Stick to your guns.
Steve: I just don't want her to be hurt.
Kayla: I know that. She knows that.
Steve: She's gonna be all right. We don't have to worry about her, do we?
Kayla: No. Not about her.
Steve: Yeah, roman should have called by now.
Kayla: Yeah, you're right. I'm gonna call him and see if there's any news about hope.
Roman: There is, but it's not what you want to hear.
Bo: Hope, come on. You can't just walk out of here. I know what being a cop means to you. I'll do whatever it takes. I'll go in there. I'll bust some heads if I have to.
Hope: There's nothing you can do now. They've made their decision. They have to follow protocol. But come on. You and I both know this is about more than just losing my badge.
Bo: Yeah, hope, I do know that. Isn't there some kind of protocol for us, too? I mean, we talk about this, I ask your forgiveness, and we make up?
Hope: [Chuckles] You're making light.
Bo: No. I am not. I am serious. I love you, fancy face. There's -- after everything we've been through, we're gonna let this come between us? That's crazy.
Hope: I wish I could figure out a way for it not to, but I can't. Not right now.
Melanie: [Clears throat]
Melanie: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt this. I really am happy for you guys.
Chelsea: I bet.
Melanie: Wow. Okay. Why is it that everybody always thinks the worst of me?
Chelsea: I should get going anyhow, so, um, I will talk to you later.
Max: All right, I'll, uh -- yeah, I'll call you. [Chuckles]
Melanie: [Laughs] So, you and Chelsea. Like I didn't call that one.
Philip: Hey. You got my message.
Stephanie: Yeah, I did. Where's Melanie?
Stephanie: I thought you two would be an item by now -- inseparable.
Philip: The reason I ran after her --
Stephanie: Philip, I don't care. I'm not interested.
Philip: You would be if you'd listen. Hey, look, I knew she was up to something. I come to find out she and E.J. Were trying to pull a fast one on me.
Stephanie: And tomorrow she will be pulling a fast one on someone else. Don't you get it? There will always be a reason for you to obsess over her. And if there isn't, you will find one.
Philip: No, that's not true. If you're thinking it's something -- I can't stand the girl. She drives me crazy. Isn't that obvious? Why would I want to be with someone I detest?
Stephanie: Because she has something that you want. And you'll do whatever you have to do to get it, no matter the cost.
Philip: Well, yeah, if you're talking about the project. I already explained that to you, Stephanie. There is no way in hell that I will let her or E.J. Take what is mine.
E.J.: Just stop a second, all right? I'm sorry, Nicole, but I don't see how Samantha coming back changes anything. Yes, she is Johnny's mother, okay? So she's always gonna be involved in our lives. But you and I -- she doesn't have anything to do with us.
Nicole: Dr. Baker, we have an opportunity here to put this baby -- Sami's little girl -- into a house with her biological father and loving mother. Or is the other alternative better, is it to give her to a couple that has no connection to her? Please, let me have that beautiful baby girl.
Nicole: I know. I know, okay? So this may sound greedy, but I just -- I want you all to myself.
E.J.: That doesn't sound greedy. I'd like exactly the same thing. I don't want to share you with anybody except Sydney. Come on. You're still upset. Why?
Nicole: You know how Sami hates me and -- and how she loves stirring up trouble.
E.J.: Okay, Nicole, sweetheart, would you look at me, please? Look at me. I will not under any circumstances let Samantha come between us. I mean, this is my daughter. We are a family, and I love you very, very much. And nothing is ever going to change that, ever. Besides, she's in the witness-protection program, okay? Who knows how long she's gonna be there for?
Nicole: Okay. So, how is she? Any...thing interesting happen while she was away? Any, uh -- I don't know -- drastic changes in her life?
E.J.: I have absolutely no idea. Why?
Nicole: Oh. Looks like somebody's awake.
E.J.: Can I feed her this time?
Nicole: Yeah, you can. I think she'd like that.
[Baby voice] Oh, my goodness. Hi. Ooh, geez. You're so big. Yes. Okay, let's sit.
[Normal voice] Okay, ready? Oh, that's a good girl.
E.J.: Hi, sweetheart.
Nicole: Yeah. Here's your bottle. Okay, daddy.
E.J.: Come on. Let's take this out.
E.J.: You're gonna like this one, though. You will.
Nicole: [Laughs] That's good.
E.J.: Wow, somebody's hungry.
E.J.: Could you grab that, darling?
Nicole: Yeah. Where is it?
E.J.: It's in my pocket.
Nicole: [Laughs] Uh, it's Stefano.
E.J.: That's fine. I'll call him back.
Nicole: You know what? Maybe you should take this, find out what he wants. I'll finish feeding her.
E.J.: All right. He's just gonna keep calling, I suppose.
Nicole: Hey, boobah. Hi, boobah. Got her.
E.J.: Yep, you got her?
Nicole: I do. I do.
Nicole: My precious little girl. Oh, what are we gonna do when Sami comes home? How are we gonna keep her from ruining everything?
Stephanie: Don't you get what's going on? She's taken over your life.
Philip: This is about my career, Stephanie. If I let a little jerk like Melanie take me down --
Stephanie: "Take you down." How can she take you down? By not giving you some project?
Philip: This is not just some project. We are talking about millions of dollars here.
Stephanie: And Titan is already successful and so are you. You have loads of power, money to burn. Why can't you be satisfied with what you have?
Philip: Because if you're satisfied, you have no drive. And if you have no drive, you can't run a company. But, hey, maybe you'd like me to pack in Titan altogether and sell insurance or become a bartender.
Stephanie: I'll pretend you didn't say that.
Philip: 'Cause I can do that, you know. Then I won't have to deal with the Melanies of the world, will I? I'll be bored to death and poor, but hell, if it'll make you happy, then it'll all be worth it.
Stephanie: Why are you being so mean to me?
Philip: I'm sorry. I just -- I must be more upset than I realized.
Stephanie: Why are you upset?
Philip: Look, Steph...I need you to understand what I have to do for my career, for Titan. If I didn't care about you so much, it wouldn't matter, but it does. It just drives me crazy that you're so disappointed in me, because you mean so much to me.
Stephanie: Hard to tell with the way you've been talking.
Philip: Well, I meant what I said about wanting to start over. Don't you know how I feel about you?
Stephanie: I thought I did, and then I saw this other side of you and...
Philip: And what? You can't take it that I'm tough, ambitious?
Stephanie: It's not that I can't take it. It's that I'd much prefer you to be kind and gentle, and when you smile that really sweet smile...
Philip: How about when I do this?
Kayla: Hope has been suspended?
Roman: Pending a full investigation.
Kayla: Oh, my God.
[Cellphone ringing] I have to take this. All right, I'll check back with you later, okay? Don't worry about this. It's not over. We're gonna do everything we can to get hope's badge back. See you later.
Steve: See ya. Who are you calling?
Kayla: First I'm calling Abe, and then I'm gonna call the governor if I have to. Bo and hope are not gonna lose everything because of me. I'm not gonna let that happen.
Bo: Hope, how many times do I have to say I'm sorry?
Hope: Sorry doesn't fix this. For the rest of my life, I have to live with what I did, with that image of Kayla lying there on the floor bleeding from my bullet, Brady.
Bo: Hey, fancy face.
Hope: Bo, please. Don't.
Bo: I understand this is gonna take some time. What I don't understand is you shutting me out. What we have together -- isn't that worth fighting for?
Bo: Then let's work on this together. Give me the chance to make this right. Just come home with me.
Nicole: E.J.? Honey, where are you? Oh. Sydney?
[Door opens] Oh. Hey.
E.J.: You going somewhere?
Nicole: Yeah, I-I was looking for you and the baby. Where were you? She's not sick, is she?
E.J.: No. She's not sick.
Nicole: Thank God. W-why are you looking at me like that? Is something wrong?
E.J.: I think you know the answer to that, Nicole.
Nicole: What? I --
E.J.: Yes, something is wrong. Something is very wrong. A nightmare, in fact, of monumental proportions.
Steve: No, baby. No, sorry.
Kayla: Come on, they have no right to take away hope's badge. You know, that psychopath would have killed me if she hadn't helped.
Steve: I know that, and you know that. And you did everything you could today. You got yourself down there and you testified.
Kayla: Well, obviously, it wasn't enough. Look, I have got to help hope.
Steve: No, baby. Listen, what you've got to do is let this go. You need to recover. You need to focus on that right now.
Kayla: But Bo and hope.
Steve: They'll figure it out. They've been through worse before and they've come out stronger. And that's what's gonna happen this time.
Kayla: I pray you're right.
Bo: Hope...come home with me tonight. I'm not gonna push it. I just want to talk. If you won't do it for me, do it for our daughter, do it for Ciara.
Hope: I know what's at stake here. I'm not ready. I don't know when I will be. I'm sorry.
Bo: Fancy fa--
Melanie: Wait till princess Stephanie finds out.
Max: You know, sometimes I just feel like strangling you.
Melanie: She just gets so mad when all the boys in Salem aren't pining away for her.
Max: You know, I may actually do it this time.
Melanie: What's your problem? I'm happy for you. You've traded up. This is good. I approve.
Max: No kidding. Oh, that's great news. I mean, your approval means the world to me. Now, um...go ahead. Get away from me.
Melanie: Well, why are you being so mean to me?
Max: Okay, fine. I'll get away from you. I just -- I don't want --
Melanie: Wait, Max. Max. Aren't you gonna ask about, like, me and Philip? How I have him right where I want him?
Max: No, no, no, no, no. Don't tell me you're still going through with your crazy plan. I warned you about all that.
Melanie: About playing the DiMeras and the Kiriakises against each other? I know, I know. It's so stupid and dangerous and reckless and such a risk.
Max: Yeah, exactly.
Melanie: And that's why I'm doing it. 'Cause I love the adrenaline rush.
Philip: Hey. I want to be with you. Only you. You believe that, don't you?
Stephanie: I want to, but...
Stephanie: It's this effect Melanie has over you. Even if it is about business, she -- she has this hold on you, Philip.
Philip: Yeah, but you know why.
Stephanie: I'm not sure I do. That's the problem.
Nicole: A nightmare? E.J., You're scaring me.
E.J.: You? Come on now. You? Come on, sweetheart, hmm? Look at you. You're the fearless wonder, aren't you? Huh?
E.J.: I mean, you must be. You crossed the DiMeras. That takes some chutzpah, let me tell you, sweetheart. You've got nerves of steel to do that. So don't you tell me that you're scared.
Nicole: E.J., Please, you have to tell me what you're talking about. I do-- I don't know what you're talking about.
E.J.: You are gonna pay for what you did. My father and I are gonna exact a terrible revenge upon you. And let me tell you something -- revenge -- it's somewhat of a speciality for us DiMeras.
Nicole: E.J., Wait, wait. Please, I can explain, wait.
E.J.: Shh. Do yourself a favor, sweetheart. Save your breath. You'll need it, and get your stuff and get out.
Nicole: No. Where -- where are you taking my baby?
E.J.: I'm taking my baby to see her mother, her real mother.
Nicole: No, E.J., Wait. Please. No! No!
Nicole: [Thinking] Oh, it was just a dream. A bad dream. Sami may be coming home, but she is not going to break up my family, not while I have breath in my body.
Victor: I asked Brady to step in and see if he could do some P.R. With Melanie Layton.
Philip: Are you kidding me?
Melanie: I have to prove my loyalty to you, so I'll do anything. Really, anything.
Chloe: Just tell me how much you hate me.
Lucas: I can't 'cause I still love you.
Chloe: I still love you, too.
