Nicole: Thank you, Brady. You're a lifesaver.
Victor: What the hell is going on here?
Brady: I was, uh -- I was getting some money for Nicole.
Victor: I can see that. Why?
E.J.: Well, this is great, isn't it? Not only do you leave the house right after our baby daughter comes back from the hospital, but then you decide to switch your phone off. But would you please call --
E.J.: Nicole? Dr. Baker, what are you doing here?
Lucas: Don't do it. Don't do it, man. Don't freak out. She can come back still, all right? Just sit tight. Things might work out.
Kate: Lucas. Lucas, I've been calling you. I've been looking everywhere for you. What are you doing down here?
Lucas: I'm taking in the view, mom.
Kate: Alone. What happened to Chloe? Why did she run out of the benefit like that? Did you catch up with her?
Lucas: Could you harass Philip, please? And in the morning, bright and early, you can take over my life, but right now, I just want to be alone, okay? I just need some peace and quiet, please.
Kate: Lucas, something happened and I'm not going to leave here until I find out what it is.
Lucas: Chloe dumped me, all right? She dumped me. It's over. The engagement is over. Are you happy?
Kate: Oh, Lucas. What the hell did you say to her?
[Knock on door]
Daniel: I'm coming. I'm coming.
Chloe: Daniel, run away with me tonight.
Daniel: What? No. Get in here.
Chloe: No, please, Daniel, please.
Daniel: You just need to calm down and tell me what happened.
Chloe: No, I need to get out of here, and I need you to come with me. Please. It's what we both want, isn't it?
Melanie: Oh, duh. Why didn't I think about this before? If I just log on as the administrator... E.J., You are so going to thank me. Print. Alternative-fuels blueprint. Looks like the economic crisis is going to pass Melanie.
Philip: You just made a very big mistake.
Melanie: Get your hands off me, Philip.
Philip: I just love when you get all indignant when I catch you stealing from the cookie jar.
Melanie: I'm not stealing anything. By all rights, those blueprints are mine.
Philip: So that injunction that bars you from giving these designs to anyone else -- just a pesky detail? I don't think a judge will see it that way.
Melanie: You know, your eyes get meaner and scrunchier when you're smug.
Philip: Oh, and I remember you saying I had nice eyes.
Melanie: Oh, yeah. That was the night I found out how big of a jerk you really are.
Philip: Speaking of eyes, you might want to avert yours. This could hurt.
[Paper shredder whirring] It's almost like I'm shredding your dreams of getting all that money from the DiMeras.
Melanie: I hate you.
Philip: Oh, but I don't hate you. I am a bit disappointed by the fact that you are so predictable.
Melanie: I am not.
Philip: Right. Like the password being so easy and me showing up right when you were printing that file -- what a coincidence.
Melanie: You were setting me up.
Philip: And it's all caught on that security cam, baby.
[Laughs] You do the crime, you got to do the time. Whoo!
Brady: Why am I giving her money? Well, that's -- that's private.
Victor: So is my safe. What a surprise, Nicole, to see you with your hand out for money. What, did you go through the entire DiMera fortune already?
Nicole: You came home. Is it dawn already?
Victor: You know, I don't think you did go through all that money. I think you're involved in some venture you don't want them to know anything about.
Victor: Really. Now, I could care less about them or about you.
Nicole: After all these years, still so bitter.
Victor: But I do care about him. And you should know better than to involve a member of my family in one of your assorted short-to-fail ventures.
Nicole: Look at that vein on your forehead pulsing again. You still have feelings for me.
Victor: You're going to tell me right now what you need that money for.
Brady: She doesn't have to. I will.
Announcer: With the economy in a slump, is now the right time to blow the wad on a 16-day show? Or is this the perfect time? Kevin Newman from whistler beginning tonight.
Kate: Okay. Listen to me -- you need to find her and you need to apologize to her.
Lucas: Why do you do that? I find that so interesting. Why is it my fault? Why do you think that? Why is that the first place you go?
Kate: I don't know. I don't know. Years of history? Lucas, this isn't the time for pride, all right? You need to find her. You need to straighten things out with her.
Lucas: Mom, I don't know where she is, and I don't know what the damn problem is. I don't know what's going on. I'm sorry.
Kate: I don't believe that. She didn't say anything to you?
Lucas: No, but you know what? I don't want to discuss this with my mother.
Kate: There's a problem, isn't there? There's something that you haven't been telling me.
Lucas: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe she got cold feet. Maybe she just doesn't want to be married to me.
Kate: Okay. Listen, this is what we're gonna do -- you're gonna find her, we're gonna find out what the problem is, and we're gonna fix it.
Chloe: Please, Daniel. I don't want to talk. I just want to go. Let's get out of here. Let's get out of this damn town.
Daniel: We're not going anywhere until you tell me what happened.
Chloe: I told Lucas.
Daniel: Told him what?
Chloe: That I couldn't marry him, that it's over.
Chloe: What, that's it? I me-- this is what you wanted, isn't it?
Daniel: I want you to be happy, and you don't seem completely happy.
Chloe: Well, I'm not particularly fond of breaking someone's heart, someone who's been nothing but kind and sweet, and damn it, Daniel. Just listen to me, okay? Let's go. I'm free. We can be together without the horrible guilt.
Daniel: But we have to run away to do that, right?
Chloe: Well, we can find someplace new, someplace where I don't have to think about how we've lied and snuck around.
Daniel: But we're running away because you have bad memories?
Chloe: No! No.
Daniel: What are you saying? Hmm?
Chloe: I -- I just told Lucas that I couldn't marry him. I didn't tell him why. He's gonna find out. When Maggie finds out that I broke the engagement, she will tell him, and I don't particularly want to be here when he finds out what I'm really like. No, no, not here. Let -- let's just go, please.
Daniel: No, I can't. No. No, I won't.
Brady: I'm giving Nicole money that I owe her.
Victor: Well, skipping over the fact that this is my money, why do you owe her?
Nicole: Well, he lost a bet. He bet that you weren't an arrogant jerk.
Brady: Nicole, don't.
Victor: Are you so stupid that you don't realize you have no power here? You're in my house with my money in your purse.
Brady: Do not talk to her that way. And you need to be quiet right now. I did this. Be angry at me.
Victor: Believe me, I am.
Brady: Let me tell you what happened, okay? When I came back to Salem, I was down and out, all right? My father didn't know who I was, and you -- the last thing I wanted to do was come to you and say, "grandfather, I am broke. Can you please write me a check," okay? So I went to Nicole. She loaned me some money. I'm paying her back.
Victor: You can't pry a dollar out of that woman's hand with a crowbar. You expect me to believe she floated you a loan?
Brady: I will pay you back as well.
Victor: You don't have to pay me back. She's not leaving this house with that money.
Brady: Fine. Then I will leave with her and I won't be back.
Victor: You're defying me for her?
Brady: No, this has everything to do with me right now. You -- you have every reason to be angry, but this is between you and me. I think...you should go.
Brady: Nicole, please. Just go.
Victor: So, apparently our talk this evening meant nothing to you.
Brady: That was not a talk, grandfather. That was a lecture. It was punctuated by insults.
Victor: So all the shenanigans with the safe, that was payback for the lecture, for the insults?
Brady: Let me ask you something. If I were to come to you and say, "grandfather, I needed some money, but I can't tell you why," would you have given it to me?
Brady: You don't trust me.
Victor: Brady, I just caught you with your hand in my safe. I don't think this is the time to be talking about trust.
Brady: Is this about drugs? Is everything I do about drugs?
E.J.: Dr. Baker, this is something of a surprise.
Dr. Baker: Nicole told me about the scare with the baby. I just wanted to make sure that everything was okay.
E.J.: Baby's fine. The staff at university hospital gave her a clean bill of health.
Dr. Baker: Good. Good. Could I talk to Nicole, please?
E.J.: Why? I mean, are you worried about her?
Dr. Baker: I just want to see and make sure she's bouncing back.
E.J.: Well, she's not here.
Dr. Baker: Okay. Catch her another time, then.
E.J.: Well, Dr. Baker, how about you don't catch her another time? In fact, why don't you just leave her alone?
Philip: You do the crime, you got to do the time, baby.
Melanie: You know what, Philip? It's amazing to me how somebody can be handed everything to them on a beautiful silver platter and still end up a mean, nasty, little son of a --
Philip: I'd watch what you say in the big house, Mel. Trash talking to people who can take you down, among other things, isn't very smart.
Melanie: You can't touch me.
Philip: No, I can't, but your cellmate probably will. Hey, let's go look at the security footage. Come on.
Melanie: Hey, Philip. Where did Titan's stock close today? You guys aren't doing very well this year. What do you think's gonna happen to that stock when I tell the world that a poor, lonely, newly orphaned little girl is being put away by Titan so that they can take the last thing she owns of any value?
Philip: Melanie, you make lady Macbeth look passive, okay? What, do you think you're gonna come across sympathetic?
Melanie: However I come across, you're coming off looking worse. You have my word on that.
Philip: And your word means so much. Hmm. You know, I can't think of one good reason why I shouldn't call your old buddies down at the police headquarters.
Melanie: Really? I can think of two. One -- you don't want that bad publicity.
[Chuckles] And two -- you don't want me to go.
Max: Come on, nick. You got to stop worrying about us out here. We're fine. You got to worry about you in there, you know? Uh...Steph's good. Steph's good. And Kayla's -- she's gonna be fine and everything. Yeah, yeah, I got it right here. And, uh, I told you I'd keep it safe, and that's what I'm gonna do. Mel's -- Mel's fine. Yeah, yeah, she asks about you all the time.
Dr. Baker: Is there some sort of problem?
E.J.: No. Not yet. I just think you no longer need to concern yourself with Nicole. From now on, she will see her own personal physician.
Dr. Baker: Fine. Whatever you say.
E.J.: You're right there.
Dr. Baker: You know, it's very common for new fathers to become proprietary of the new mothers. Not just human fathers. Baboons, for example. I'll show myself out.
E.J.: Dr. Baker, what the hell do you think you're doing? And what do you want with Nicole?
Brady: I work very hard every day to stay clean and sober. Every day I go head-on. But when you have to spend 11 of 12 hours every day with someone who doesn't tolerate any disagreement, when you're expected to love who they love and hate who they hate, you end up lying. I won't do it anymore.
Victor: So you steal money because I won't give it to you. And you feel depressed because I don't agree with everything you say. So, basically, this is all my fault.
Brady: [Chuckles] You know what? I'm actually glad that you caught me because now maybe we can be just completely honest with each other right now, if you're ready for it.
Lucas: We -- and when I say "we," I mean "you" -- you are not gonna do a thing about this, okay?
Kate: Oh, your life is falling apart and you don't want to do anything about it?
Lucas: I'm sorry, mom. This is my life. How many times have I said that?
Kate: Maybe setting the date. Maybe that was too much pressure on her.
Lucas: Maybe she didn't want to marry me.
Kate: Lucas, that wouldn't mean that she doesn't want to be with you. She's young, and she's impulsive, and maybe this isn't as serious as you think it is.
Lucas: She was unhappy and I didn't even know it. It's my fault. I screwed up.
Kate: No. Not from where I'm standing. Because I think that my illness and Chloe being my donor and having to take care of Allie, I think that was -- I think that was too much for her. But through it all, you were her rock. Please, please don't give up on that.
Lucas: Didn't you hear me? You're not listening to me. She was unhappy and I didn't know it. She said that she wasn't good enough for me, but I know it was the other way around.
Daniel: I know tonight has been, well, really hard, to say the least.
Chloe: Well, it wasn't exactly a walk in the park for Lucas, either.
Daniel: Well, I think it's a good thing. A decision was made today.
Chloe: Yeah, I guess.
Daniel: Hey, Chloe, I have been saying all along that this isn't just better for you. It's better for Lucas. He's the one that can be free, and in the long run --
Chloe: I don't care about the long run. I just want to go.
Daniel: Mnh-mnh. If you want to go, I can't go with you. I think it's a horrible idea, and I will not do that to you.
Melanie: Can't we come up with another way to solve our differences?
Philip: Don't you move.
Melanie: Wouldn't dream of it.
Philip: Don't move. Ernie. Miss Layton was just leaving. And since she's no longer an employee, be sure you get her security badge on the way out.
Melanie: You son of a bitch.
Philip: Also, let the other guys know if she's caught on the premises again, call the cops, charge her with trespassing.
Melanie: Don't touch me. You can't do this. That prototype is mine.
Philip: Possession is 9/10 the law. Now, I suggest you get going while I'm in a forgiving mood.
Melanie: One of these days, I'm gonna wipe that smug smile off your face. I said don't touch me.
Philip: Have a lovely evening. [Chuckles]
E.J.: Where the hell have you been?
Daniel: You have been through so much, and if you need to go away, you should do it, but not with me.
Chloe: I can't believe you're saying this to me.
Daniel: I am just saying to you I don't want you to associate leaving Lucas to being with me. That's all I'm saying.
Chloe: I did this for you.
Daniel: Well, you shouldn't have done it for me. Chloe, look, you have got to do things for yourself, all right? Now, I want you in my life -- more than you know -- but we have got to take what's coming to us just one step at a time. One step at a time. We can't just run away like we did something wrong.
Chloe: But we did do something wrong. I was sleeping with you when I was wearing his ring on my finger.
Daniel: Yeah, we did, but we ended that.
You -- you ended that today.
[Sighs] Hey. Look, you did what you had to do. Now, I know it wasn't easy, but you just need to take a breath.
Chloe: [Exhales deeply]
Daniel: That's it. Just take a breath, all right? Because the world, even Lucas' world, is not going to end, okay? It's not gonna end.
[Pager ringing] Ugh.
Chloe: I know, I know. You have to go. Is it an emergency?
Daniel: Well, I, uh -- I hope not, 'cause it's Kate.
Brady: There is nothing more important to me than staying clean, but if you don't have any faith in me, I'm not sure that I should be working for you.
Victor: That's blackmail.
Brady: No, it's not, because I won't stop being your grandson. I won't stop loving you, grandfather, but I'm not sure I should be working for someone who feels that they have the right to pick my friends.
Victor: That woman is no one's friend. If you have no soul, you can't b-- you're serious about this, aren't you?
Brady: Yeah. You got to level with me. Do you trust me or not?
Nicole: Excuse me?
E.J.: I asked you where you were. Now, I've been leaving messages on your cellphone all evening.
Nicole: What? Is something wrong with Sydney?
E.J.: No, Sydney's fine. Nicole, why don't you tell me what is so important that you have to go and do it and leave your newborn baby daughter at home?
Nicole: Well, E.J., prepare to feel like a real jerk. It's an apnea monitor so we'll know immediately if she ever stops breathing again.
E.J.: I'm really sorry.
Nicole: Yeah? Well, you should be.
Chloe: I was really stupid tonight.
Daniel: No, you weren't.
Chloe: I can't ask you to run away. I mean, you're not like me. People need you. They depend on you.
Daniel: Hey, hey. Get up. I need you. I do. Why don't you stay here tonight?
Daniel: No? All right, I got to go. You gonna be okay?
Chloe: Not sure when, but, yeah.
Daniel: Well, you did the right thing. You did.
[Pager ringing] All right, all right, all right. Mm. You did, you know.
Chloe: [Sighs] Well, well. You burned your bridges tonight. And where do we go now?
Victor: For the last time... why did you give her that money?
Brady: I told you. When I first came back to Salem, she loaned me some money. I was paying her back. Why are you looking at me like that?
Victor: Are you involved with Nicole, beyond friendship?
Brady: She just had E.J.'S baby.
Victor: Yes, who you told me almost died tonight. In the meantime, she's out trolling for cash.
Brady: She loves that baby.
Victor: Nicole a mother? She probably gave birth and slithered away.
Brady: I'm going.
Victor: I've offended you.
Brady: I'm late.
Brady: It's private. You're gonna have to trust me.
Melanie: Ugh! He makes me so mad. Do you know what Philip did? You want to know what he did? He -- he got an injunction so that I can't sell the prototype to the DiMeras. I mean, if you have to use cops and lawyers, what kind of man are you?
Max: Uh, the kind who has to run a company and answer to shareholders.
Melanie: Do not take his side, Max.
Max: Okay, fine. Fine, he went to his lawyers, so why don't you show this injunction to Mickey?
Max: Why? He could give you a recommendation.
Melanie: I said no.
Max: Maybe because it's more, something that you don't want him or Mickey to know about?
Melanie: It doesn't matter anyways. Philip's probably already blabbed it and put the video up on the internet.
Max: "Video"? Melanie, you didn't do, like, a Paris Hilton thing, did you?
Melanie: What? No! Ma-- n-- uh, no, Max. I...may have hacked into the computer and tried to steal the blueprints.
Max: And he got that on video?
Melanie: Yeah, and then he went all corporate pig on me and tried to throw me out of the office.
Max: You should be grateful he didn't throw you in prison.
Melanie: You know, at first, it was about the money, but now Philip and me -- it's personal.
Philip: Thought you had a meeting at the hospital.
Victor: Well, meetings take a lot less time when nobody has any money.
Philip: We still do. I got there just in time -- caught Melanie red-handed.
Victor: Really? You mean she did something underhanded?
Philip: She was hacking into the office computer trying to print out the blueprints.
Victor: That's fantastic. Now, listen, I want our lawyers there at the arraignment. I don't want to leave this up to some A.D.A.
Philip: There won't be an arraignment.
Victor: There has to be. Has to look like she's getting the full protection of the law.
Philip: I didn't have her arrested.
Victor: Something is funny?
Philip: Well, it's like counting the seconds to calculate how far away a storm is. The longer you're silent, the angrier you are.
Victor: You're damn right I'm angry. We had this girl dead to rights and you let her go.
Philip: We have the security footage. We can use it any time we want. This way, we avoid the bad publicity.
Victor: I think there's more to it than that. I think you and I basically disagree on the definition of "nailing her."
Nicole: So, this little monitor here will go off if the baby stops breathing.
E.J.: Is she okay?
Nicole: Yeah. I watched her back go up and down. Most beautiful thing in the world.
E.J.: I'm really sorry.
Nicole: I know taking Sydney to the hospital scared you as much as it did me, and I should have told you where I was going.
E.J.: Still, I'm very sorry. This, uh, "don't leave the house without my permission," you know that's not me.
Nicole: I know. You know, I showed Sydney's picture to a very unimpressed employee at the drugstore today.
[Chuckles] Oh, what's happened to us?
E.J.: Oh, we've become parents. Yeah, fully fledged. We've left any chance of being cool in our wake.
Nicole: Now, wait a minute. You are very cool.
E.J.: You think so?
Nicole: Mm-hmm. Remember when I was pregnant? I wasn't that easy to get along with.
E.J.: You were fine.
Nicole: No, I was a mess. But remember I also said things would get better as soon as the baby was born. And, uh, well, the baby's been born. And Lexie said that everything's fine. So this is what I'm talking about. This...is the better.
E.J.: I'm gonna break that phone in a minute.
Nicole: E.J., No.
Daniel: Oh, Kate, hey. What happened? You all right?
Kate: Yeah, I'm fine. I'm sorry. I left you three messages, didn't I? You must have thought it was something medical.
Kate: I just -- I was hit so hard tonight, and I guess old instincts kicked in, and I called out for you. And, you know, that was not fair, and I'm sorry that -- it just wasn't right.
Daniel: It's okay. Sometimes you just, uh, need an old friend. So, what happened?
Kate: I am so worried about Lucas.
Brady: Hey, Lucas.
Lucas: Hey. What's going on, Brady?
Brady: What are you doing out here alone?
Lucas: Just thinking.
Brady: Yeah, I got to chez rouge late. I heard Chloe was singing, though, and I heard she was great.
Lucas: Excuse me, man. I got to go.
Brady: Nice -- nice talking to you.
Chloe: Brady. Were you talking to Lucas?
Brady: Yeah. What the hell is going on there?
Chloe: Please, tell me what he said.
E.J.: Okay, I'm sorry.
Nicole: There's just something in here that I don't want you to see. Um...I'm planning a surprise, okay? I'm planning a surprise, and I don't want you to know about it.
E.J.: "A surprise." A surprise that fits in your purse?
Nicole: No more questions, please. It's been a horrible day, and it's finally over. And I don't want to argue, okay? I just -- I want to go upstairs and kiss Sydney good night and get ready for bed and finally try to have a good night's sleep.
E.J.: Okay, well, how about this? Why don't I do all the feedings this evening, okay? You just go upstairs and get some rest.
Nicole: No. We'll take turns. But right now, you should go upstairs and check on Sydney, get ready for bed, and I will be up there in a few minutes.
E.J.: Why? Where are you going?
Nicole: No more questions.
E.J.: Okay, fine. Will you be quick?
Nicole: Yes, I will, I promise, okay? I'm just gonna go lock something in my trunk, keep it from your prying eyes.
E.J.: All right. Don't be long.
Nicole: Ooh. Wow. I won't, I promise.
[Chuckles] You have a hell of a lot of nerve texting me when I'm with E.J.
Dr. Baker: I had to let you know I was out here, didn't I? I figured it was better than ringing the doorbell. Now, do you have something for me?
Kate: One of the things that helped get me through those difficult times these past few months was knowing finally that Lucas was happy and that he was settled.
Daniel: Well, if it had to happen, it's probably a good thing it did before they got married.
Kate: But why did it happen? Lucas and Chloe were happy. They were in love. You can't fake that. So what happened to just break it all apart?
Brady: You know, Chloe, if you wanted to know what Lucas was saying, you probably should have just come on down and asked him.
Chloe: I couldn't do that. I just wanted to know that he's all right.
Brady: Seemed upset, but he did walk away from the water, which is always a good thing when you walk away from the water.
Chloe: Don't joke about that.
Brady: What's going on with you? What's happening?
Chloe: [Sighs] Please, I can't talk about it anymore.
Chloe: So, what are you doing down here?
Brady: [Sighs] Well, I usually catch a late meeting at St. Mike's.
Chloe: Oh, well, then go. Don't let me stop you.
Brady: No, no, no, it's okay. It's not for another half an hour. I usually come here to just get my head together and decompress a little bit before I go in.
Chloe: I'll leave you alone.
Brady: Chloe. You don't have to talk to me if you don't want to, but...I can sense that you could use a little decompressing yourself.
Chloe: I don't know.
Brady: I do. Why don't you stay with me? I would really, really like that. I would.
Chloe: Remember when who danced with whom at the prom was the most important thing in the world?
Brady: [Chuckles] Yeah, that was some time ago, huh?
Chloe: I was so happy then. Do you ever think that you have to be really stupid to be happy? I mean, I was so dumb and naive.
Brady: [Chuckles] Well, back then, I thought that I knew everything in the world, too. And here we are.
Chloe: Yeah. Here we are.
Brady: One day at a time, Chloe. It's a bad cliché, but it's because it's true.
Chloe: I guess. Well, all I know is I want this day to be over.
Brady: Well, you know what? You're gonna get your wish, because today is going to end and then all you're gonna have to do is worry about what the heck to do about tomorrow.
Philip: Wow. I enjoyed that last remark on so many levels.
Victor: Yes, I thought you would.
Philip: Implying that not only could I not handle my job, but I can't control my urges.
Victor: You couldn't put Melanie in jail even though it was clearly the way to go.
Philip: I disagree. The publicity would have been bad. And as far as any attraction on my part, there is none. Melanie is a money-grubbing, lying thief. You name it, she's that.
Victor: It's not your assessment of her character that concerns me. News flash -- sometimes men like women who are less than virtuous. Hell, I was married to Nicole.
Philip: Look, two things -- I don't want anything to do with Melanie. And two -- she has nothing on us. Nothing.
Melanie: What's that?
Max: Nick sent it. It's a copy of the blueprints.
Melanie: [Chuckling] Oh, Philip, you are not gonna know what hit you.
Nicole: This is it. This is all I have.
Dr. Baker: Poor little rich girl.
Nicole: I mean it. That's it. And then we will never see each other again, right?
Dr. Baker: Absolutely. You go your way. I'll go mine.
Nicole: And that starts now.
Dr. Baker: You know, you finally got it all, didn't you? Got a beautiful baby girl, handsome if somewhat brutish husband, and a big house full of hot and cold running servants. Losing all that would be just unbearable, wouldn't it?
Nicole: I won't lose it. No matter what. No matter what.
Philip: You thought you fell in love with someone else, but you didn't -- that was me. And I don't think you want me to change.
Max: Did you come back for the blueprints?
Melanie: I really need them, Max. You have to help me.
Max: Not on your life.
Sami: Nicole had a daughter on the same day that I had Grace.
