E.J.: Oh, yes. So, when in doubt, eliminate, right? Excellent strategy.
Melanie: Those prototypes belong to my father.
Melanie: And he gave them to me.
E.J.: Of course. So Philip should die, right?
Melanie: Uh, no. No, I did not mean literally.
E.J.: I don't understand. What exactly did you mean?
Melanie: That I'll do whatever the hell it takes to get what's rightfully mine.
[Cellphone beeps] So, let's start with this, shall we?
Philip: Hey. Wasn't sure I'd see you tonight.
Philip: So... have you decided what you want to do...about us?
Stephanie: Yeah, I have.
Daniel: No, not now, Maggie.
Maggie: Yes, now. Look, I don't know what happened tonight between Chloe and Lucas or why she ran out of here after she sang that love song. But I do know one thing. You're not going after her. You will let her have this time with Lucas. Do you understand me?
Daniel: I understand it's none of your business.
Lucas: You can't marry me? Why would you say that? What -- what happened?
Chloe: A lot of things.
Lucas: Well, what kind of answer is that?
Lucas: Yeah, it is. It's kind of lame, Chloe.
Chloe: Lucas, I'm so sorry.
Lucas: Listen, I don't want you to apologize, okay? Just tell me what's going on. Talk to me. Please. We set a date for that wedding tonight. Now, what happened? What changed?
Stefano: Ah. Victor. [Chuckles] [Sighs] How fortunate to bump into you, hmm? Saves me a call.
Victor: We have nothing to talk about, Stefano.
Stefano: Ah, on the contrary. I just learned that your son had Melanie Layton served with an injunction tonight to prevent her from taking her potential gold mine of a fuel project elsewhere.
Victor: Well, I don't like to mix business and pleasure -- or, in this case, displeasure.
Victor: Excuse me.
Stefano: No, no, no. It's all right. Wait, wait. Just a moment. Victor, surely that's not the way you want to play it.
Victor: The law is the law.
Stefano: [Laughs] When did the letter of the law ever concern you, victor, hmm? But if you insist on following it -- I mean, please understand, I have no compunction about that.
Victor: Really? And here I thought you were the original eagle scout.
Stefano: Mm. Nevertheless, now that we have put down the rules of the game, may the best man win. Ciao.
Brady: Oh, I think I missed everything, didn't I?
Victor: That's what happens when you're two hours late.
Brady: I'm sorry. I lost track of time.
Victor: Where were you?
Brady: The hospital. There was a scare with Nicole's baby.
Victor: And what does that have to do with you?
Brady: Grandfather, please, come on, she's a friend of mine. Nicole and I were friends.
Victor: All right, that's enough. I don't want to hear that girl's name cross your lips again.
Nicole: What the hell do you want?
Dr. Baker: I thought I'd check in, see how the little one's doing.
Nicole: Sydney's fine. Now you can go.
Dr. Baker: Sydney. You called her Sydney. That's a nice name. I like that. I wonder what Sami would think.
Nicole: Who cares what Sami would think? She is my little girl -- mine and E.J.'S.
Dr. Baker: Exactly. And if you want to keep it that way, you'll do exactly as I say.
Nicole: Oh, no. You don't get to call the shots, not anymore.
Dr. Baker: We had a deal, Nicole.
Nicole: Yeah, "had" being the operative word here. Ever since I found out you were a baby broker, all bets were off.
Dr. Baker: You're not doing this to me.
Nicole: Maybe I didn't make myself clear, okay? I'll let you, uh, know about our new deal here, okay? You try and blackmail me again, I will have them lock you up and throw away the key.
Dr. Baker: I did everything you asked of me. I set you up with Mia's baby. I made the switch with Sami's baby because you blackmailed me! I committed a federal crime for you.
Nicole: Yeah, you sure did, and we all make choices. Now, if you want to keep this on the Q.T., You will not say a word. Now, do we understand each other?
Dr. Baker: You know, the more I think about it, prison's not so bad after all. Three squares a day, no debt collector knocking on my door. I got nothing to lose, Nicole.
Nicole: Really? How about your life?
Dr. Baker: You want to talk about life? You cross the DiMeras and they find out, you'll have all kinds of hell to pay.
Daniel: Hey, you.
Kayla: Oh, you didn't have to get so dressed up for me.
Daniel: I like to kick it up a notch for the chief of staff. How you doing?
Kayla: I'm okay. So, how was the big bash?
Daniel: I'm not sure how much money we raised, but apparently it was -- it was a huge success.
Kayla: Wow, just think if we would have put you up on that auction block.
Daniel: Yeah -- been a real windfall.
Kayla: But you had a good time?
Daniel: Uh, I did. Yeah. Yeah, I met some nice people.
Daniel: Women, men.
Kayla: I'm sorry.
Daniel: No, it's...
Kayla: It's re-- it's really none of my business.
Daniel: No, it's -- it's okay. It's okay.
Kayla: Well, in defense of my nosiness, I will say it's... that I like you. And you seem lonely.
Daniel: Me? No.
Kayla: Well, good. Then there is somebody in your life.
Lucas: Chloe... tell me something. Say anything. Please.
Chloe: [Sobs] I love you so much, Lucas.
Lucas: You love me? That's why you're doing this, because you love me? You're breaking it off because -- I don't understand.
Chloe: I wanted more than anything to make you happy, okay, to be a good wife and a good mother to Allie.
Chloe: [Sniffles] The thing you need from me most, the best thing I can do for you is to walk away right now.
Stephanie: Our little fight earlier -- I didn't know what to make of it, so I went to talk to my mom. Big turn-off, right, running to mommy?
Philip: No. No, I've been known to consult with my mom from time to time.
Stephanie: Right. Well, anyway, uh, she reminded me that when she fell for my dad, he wasn't exactly someone she envisioned herself becoming involved with. In fact, he was working for your dad at the time.
Philip: So, she thought it would be a good idea to give it another shot?
Chloe: Actually, she thought I should break up with you for good.
Brady: Nicole's daughter was rushed to the hospital tonight.
Victor: And I repeat -- how does this concern you?
Brady: Why do I even bother trying to --
Victor: She is engaged to E.J. Let him deal with her histrionics.
Brady: I got a better idea. Why don't you let me decide who I'm gonna be friends with?
Victor: I would be delighted to if you weren't so damn naive.
Brady: Naive? Why, because I'm not like you? Because I choose not to hate 99% of the human race?
Victor: She is not a member of the human race. She's an animal.
Brady: Oh, God. Come on.
Victor: She tried to kill me, Brady. Does that mean nothing to you? Where's your family loyalty? Where's your pride? Where's your brain?
Nicole: I gave E.J. a daughter, a daughter that Sami wanted to keep from him, a daughter that would have died if she was in Sami's care.
Dr. Baker: Died? What are you talking about?
Nicole: When I went to check on her, she wasn't breathing. I thought I was gonna lose her.
Dr. Baker: Is she okay?
Nicole: Yes, she's okay because I brought her to the hospital.
Dr. Baker: What was wrong?
Nicole: Reflux. That's what caused the apnea. Thank God it wasn't anything more serious.
Dr. Baker: What if it had been? What if they had asked for your medical history, yours and E.J.'S? Something else you would have lied about.
Nicole: I don't need any of your lectures.
Dr. Baker: Of course not. You keep thinking you're doing something selfless and noble. Don't let me disabuse you of that delusion.
Nicole: Get the hell out.
Dr. Baker: Oh, no, you don't. You're not getting rid of me that easily.
Melanie: You didn't just go all tony soprano on me, did you?
E.J.: Put a hit on Philip, you mean? Isn't that what you had in mind? I mean, that is what "to eliminate" means, right? To get rid of, to cause to cease to exist.
Melanie: Oh, my God.
E.J.: [Sighs deeply] What's wrong with you, my dear? I thought you got your wish.
Melanie: No. No, no, no. That is not what I wished for.
E.J.: Dear, silly me, taking you literally. Must learn to read between those lines.
Melanie: Are you putting me on, E.J.?
Melanie: You're a jerk. Why would you scare me like that?
E.J.: Because I can. You'd do well not to forget that. Now, as it happens, I do have a solution to this little problem of yours.
E.J.: Mm-hmm. One that does not involve homicide, thankfully.
Melanie: All right. Thank you, E.J. I knew I could count on you.
E.J.: Oh, I wouldn't be thanking me just yet if I were you.
Philip: Well, I guess this is goodbye, then.
Stephanie: I came to say bye, but... looking into your eyes, I don't think I'm ready to do that.
Philip: Why is that?
Stephanie: You know why.
Philip: Tell me anyway.
Stephanie: Because I love you.
Lucas: This is all very reasonable, isn't it? When you love somebody, you break up with him, right? You don't marry him, God forbid, even though you set a date for the wedding. You don't do that, do you?
Chloe: I'm not good enough for you, okay?
Lucas: Don't do that, Chloe. Don't give me the "it's me not you" routine. I don't want to hear that right now.
Chloe: But it's true, okay? I mean, look what I did to Brady. Things got so bad between us he turned to drugs.
Lucas: Don't compare me to Brady, please.
Chloe: And Philip, too. I managed to destroy that relationship.
Lucas: Why are you doing this? Why are you telling me about all the guys from your past, especially my brother?
Chloe: Because it matters. Because every man I've ever cared about, somehow I managed to break his heart.
Lucas: That is in the past, okay? That is not gonna happen between us. What we have is real. It's -- it's perfect. It's special, Chloe! Trust me. Believe me. You're not gonna break my heart.
Chloe: [Sighs deeply] I already have.
Victor: I'm insulted that you would take Nicole's side in this.
Brady: Her side? Her baby was sick.
Victor: Your involvement with this woman is terribly misguided.
Brady: Grandfather, Nicole is my friend. I'm not gonna shut the door on her.
Victor: I see. Well, in that case, certain doors may be shut on you.
Brady: Are you threatening me now?
Victor: I have a meeting to get to.
Brady: Damn it. Nicole, call me.
Nicole: I am warning you. One more threat, and you will be sorry that you ever --
Dr. Baker: Talk about threats.
Nicole: Get off my property.
Dr. Baker: You are crazy if you think you can keep up with this charade.
Nicole: I said leave.
Dr. Baker: You actually think the baby is better off with you?
Nicole: I am a good mother. I love my little girl.
Dr. Baker: If that were true, you wouldn't have taken her from Sami.
Nicole: Shut up.
Dr. Baker: You're gonna ruin that child's life, just like I'm gonna ruin yours unless you come up with $10,000 cash tonight. I'll be back to collect it. Count on it.
Nicole: Come on. Come on, pick up. Hi. It's me. I really need your help.
Lucas: You already broke my heart? What are you talking about? Why would you say that?
Lucas: Who is it?
Philip: You're still in love with me?
Stephanie: Did I say that out loud?
Philip: Mm-hmm. That's what I heard. [Laughs]
Stephanie: Uh, looks like we're the only ones left in the restaurant. Maybe we should go.
Philip: [Chuckles] Let's not. Not yet.
If only to hold you
Stephanie: Let's dance, then.
Only to taste your lips if only for this moment for you, I would do it again even for just one kiss
Melanie: Okay, so tell me about this plan.
E.J.: Although it's going to require a little bit of effort on your part.
Melanie: Okay, what do you need me to do?
E.J.: Well, first of all, nobody at DiMera enterprises has seen a copy of these blueprints. Now, how are we to know the whole thing isn't poppycock?
Melanie: [Scoffs] Okay, so are you saying you might not be interested in the prototype now?
E.J.: No. What I'm saying is it's very hard to be 100% on board with something if you've never actually seen it.
Melanie: I guess that makes sense.
E.J.: If the sole copy of these blueprints is in Titan's possession, there's not a lot we can do right now.
Melanie: I don't have a copy of the blueprints, if that's what you're asking.
E.J.: Hmm. That is a shame... because it would be enormously helpful.
Melanie: Okay, I see your point.
E.J.: Well, I suppose for the time being, we'll just have to ride it out, won't we? I do hope you hadn't planned on spending any of that money anytime soon.
Melanie: E.J. I don't think this will be as big of a problem as you think it is.
E.J.: Good. Very good.
Melanie: [Exhales deeply]
Nicole: Hi, Brady. I-I'm sorry. I didn't know who else to call.
Brady: Come in. Come in.
Nicole: Victor's not home, is he?
Brady: No, he has a meeting at the hospital. How is Sydney? What's wrong? What did the doctor say?
Nicole: She's fine. She just had reflux, nothing major. She's home with Mary.
Brady: Oh, thank God. I was worried about her. You didn't call, and I -- why are you upset? What's wrong?
Nicole: Dr. Baker stopped by.
Nicole: I don't -- I don't know what to do.
Brady: He asked for more money, didn't he?
Nicole: And I don't have anything, not a dime. He's gonna expose me, Brady. They're gonna take away my child. I'm gonna go to jail. I'm gonna lose E.J. I'm gonna -- I'm not even gonna be able to see my girl anymore. I can't live like that. Would you please... I need your help.
Brady: Nicole, um...
Nicole: This isn't about me anymore. This is about an innocent child. Please help my little girl. Don't turn your back on Sydney.
But if only this sunset only to capture this night
Stephanie: Yeah. We have this restaurant all to ourselves. This is becoming a trend for us.
Philip: There's no pool tables here.
Stephanie: Well, that's too bad. You could let me beat you again.
Philip: Actually, I think you might have the potential to beat me for real.
Stephanie: Yeah, right. Stop trying to sooth my poor, little ego.
Philip: I mean it. I could teach you things. You want some lessons?
Stephanie: How much do you charge?
Philip: On the house, baby.
Stephanie: In that case, when and where?
Philip: Cheatin' heart. Now.
Stephanie: All right, let's do it.
Philip: Let's do it.
Stephanie: Okay, let me just go freshen up.
Philip: All right, you do that.
Maggie: Oh, my. You don't look so miserable.
Philip: Thank you so much, Maggie.
Maggie: Oh, it was my pleasure. You and Stephanie make a lovely couple.
Philip: Yeah, we -- we get along, don't we?
Maggie: Well, that's one way to put it.
[Both laugh] But, uh, speaking of couples, have you heard from Lucas? I was, uh, a bit concerned when he ran out after Chloe like that tonight.
Philip: I haven't heard a thing.
Maggie: [Sighs] I hope everything's okay.
Lucas: Well, who is it?
Lucas: Nobody? Look, Chloe, I don't know what's going on here. I don't know what went wrong. I am totally confused by all this, but I want you to know that I love you more than anyone I've ever loved in my life.
Lucas: You really do bring out the best in me.
Chloe: Stop! Just stop saying that.
Lucas: Would you please at least look at me? Chloe, what is it? What's going on? What aren't you telling me?
Chloe: Lucas, I don't want to leave you. But I've tried everything possible to make this work.
Lucas: What? What is not working? Just tell me.
Chloe: Me! I'm a horrible person!
Lucas: What are you talking about? You're a wonderful person. You were there for my mom when she really needed you. You saved her life, Chloe! You're the sweetest, most --
Chloe: No, I'm not who you think I am! You don't know what I've done.
Lucas: What? What have you done? Just tell me.
Kayla: You just made a date, didn't you?
Kayla: You just called her, right?
Kayla: The woman in your life. I'm acting like a nosy, pushy sister. So obnoxious. I'm sorry.
Daniel: No, no. No, that's -- that's okay.
Kayla: Okay, then. Is that what you were doing? Did you make a date?
Daniel: Yeah. Yes, you know what? You're right. That's what I was doing. How did you know?
Kayla: I'm just psychic, I guess. Well, see? That explains the whole thing. That explains why you didn't want us to auction you off. Because you are not an eligible bachelor after all.
Brady: So what do you need?
Nicole: You're gonna help me? Thank you, Brady, so much.
Brady: Nicole, Nicole, how much?
Nicole: [Clears throat] 10 grand to start.
Nicole: You're a trust-fund baby. That's small change for you.
Brady: [Laughs] There's a reason they call it a trust fund, Nicole. And as a recovering drug addict, they don't exactly trust me with all the funds right now.
Nicole: Well, there must be some loophole.
Brady: There's not. You're gonna have to figure out something else to do.
Nicole: Well, what about Titan? I mean, you're a big-time C.E.O. There now. I'm sure you could put your hand in the cookie jar if you wanted to.
Brady: I am not going to embezzle money from Titan.
Nicole: No, borrow. Borrow. I am going to pay your back.
Brady: With what, unemployment checks?
Nicole: I don't know. I'll figure it out. Brady, you have to help me.
Brady: Or, what, your whole life is going to be in ruins? I know. I've heard this before, Nicole.
Nicole: I promise this will be the last time I ask you for help. I swear.
Brady: I'm sorry. I can't do it.
Brady: Nicole, my God. You just need to tell E.J. The truth, before you get more attached to Sydney.
Nicole: More attached? That baby is my life. You saw what happened tonight. It was hell. I thought I almost lost her. How could you -- how could you say, "don't get more attached"? What are you, shallow, heartless? And let me tell you something else, Brady. Sydney might not be alive right now if it wasn't for me. I'm the one that got her to the hospital. Maybe she wouldn't have gotten the proper care. Do you really think that Sami would have --
Brady: Sami? I'm sorry, what does Sami have to do with this?
Stefano: Where have you been?
E.J.: Taking care of DiMera business, as usual.
Stefano: Mm-hmm. And your meeting with miss Layton, everything go according to plan? I mean, she take the bait?
E.J.: [Chuckles] Hook, line, and sinker.
Melanie: Log-in -- Philip Kiriakis. Password -- what the hell would his password be? Shoot.
Nicole: I was just thinking that Sami already has a child with E.J. What would she do if she were in my shoes?
Brady: That is not the question you want to be asking right now, believe me.
Nicole: Why? Sami always gets what she wants.
Brady: Is that why she's alone now and miserable?
Nicole: She's not alone. She has three children. I only wanted one. And now I have my precious Sydney, and she is perfect.
Brady: You're living a lie.
Nicole: So what? Isn't the welfare of my child more important? I mean, think about it. What would have happened if she was with Mia when she stopped breathing? Do you have any idea? Brady... look, you -- you already helped save Sydney's life by keeping this a secret.
Brady: You are twisting yourself up into a pretzel, trying to justify this, aren't you?
Nicole: So let's say I do tell E.J. The truth. What will happen to Sydney? I mean, Mia is in Japan now. She's gonna have nowhere to go.
Brady: You know -- you know that's not true.
Nicole: If I don't give Dr. Baker the money -- and I know that you've heard this a thousand times -- but I will lose everything. I will lose E.J., I will lose my baby, and I will probably spend 10 years in prison. Look, Brady, I know you have morals to uphold, whatever, and you're trying to be this stand-up guy now. But think about it. I mean, how would helping that baby not be the right thing to do?
Maggie: Oh. Excuse me, sir. We're closed.
Philip: It's okay, Maggie. I know him.
Maggie: Oh, okay.
Philip: Thank you again.
Philip: Nice work tonight, Derek.
Derek: So, how'd miss Layton react to the injunction?
Philip: Let's just say I'm glad she didn't have access to any sharp objects. [Laughs] Here, a little bonus for your hard work.
Derek: Thanks, man. You know, I hate to make a beautiful girl squirm.
Philip: Didn't bother me a bit.
Kayla: So, I'm not gonna hear about this mystery woman, huh?
Daniel: No, I really need to get back to work.
Kayla: Daniel, Daniel. Wait. Wait, wait. I'm sorry. Okay, this is the last thing I'm gonna say on this subject because, like I said, I really like you. And I can see that I'm making you intensely uncomfortable.
Daniel: Mm. That obvious, huh?
Kayla: Painfully. But listen. It's just that I -- I know it's been rough on you since you broke up with Kate, and... you seem depressed. You haven't been your effervescent self. I can see that, and it concerns me. So, if you are moving on with your life, I'm happy about that. Maybe we'll see you smile again.
Chloe: [Crying] You deserve so much better -- so much better than me.
Lucas: But I want you.
Chloe: This is what's best for both of us. You just have to trust me.
Lucas: No, I don't trust you. I don't believe you know what's best for me.
Lucas: You're best for me -- us together, our wedding, and our future, the family we were gonna have. That's what's best for me, Chloe.
Chloe: [Sobbing] Please forgive me.
Chloe: Just take it!
Lucas: I don't want to take it. I gave it to you for a reason.
Chloe: Please. [Sobs]
Lucas: Remember when you took this off and it fell into the river and I dove in and I got it? And we swore -- we swore you'd never take it off again, didn't we?
Chloe: I'm so sorry, Lucas. You'll never know how much.
Stefano: So [Clears throat] You were, uh, discreet, right?
E.J.: No, actually, I was rather brash and reckless. I think I said all the wrong things. I'm quite sure it's gonna be traced back to you, actually.
Stefano: [Chuckles] You're always trying to be cute.
E.J.: Father, you either trust me, or you don't.
Stefano: It is miss Layton that I do not trust because from what I hear, she is a nutburger, out of control, all right? That is what I am concerned about. Salud.
Melanie: Sports teams. Chicago bears. Bears. Shoot. Password. Password. It's so simple, it just might... not work. [Clears throat] Stupid thing logged me off.
Melanie: Uh...uh... shoot.
Nicole: I'm sorry I dragged you into this. I know it's not fair, but I will pay you back.
Brady: It's not -- it's not the money that I'm concerned about. It's you that I'm concerned about, Nicole. The deeper you get into this thing, the harder it's gonna be when the truth comes out. And you -- believe me, mark my words, it's gonna come out.
Nicole: Not -- not if I play my cards right, not if you help me.
Brady: Nicole --
Nicole: No, look. I know that you are sick of bailing me out. And you are not exactly a fan of E.J. and the DiMeras.
Brady: Oh, you got that right. I mean, just -- just tonight, my grandfather was giving me a lecture on how I'm supposed to keep my distance from the DiMeras.
Nicole: And from me. Right, of course.
Brady: The only place I'm gonna be able to get that kind of money, Nicole, is from him.
Nicole: Yeah, and victor would never allow that.
Brady: And I would never ask. You know, he's disgusted that I am even your friend. I'm sure he'd disown me if he found out that I committed the ultimate act of...disloyalty.
Nicole: I shouldn't have asked you. I'm sorry.
Brady: But you did ask me, Nicole. And, damn it, I have a hard time saying no after everything you just told me, and I also don't like to see you unhappy.
Nicole: Are you saying...
Brady: Yes, Nicole. I will help you.
Philip: Hey, Steph, what's up?
Stephanie: Who was that?
Philip: Uh, just, uh, business. You ready?
Philip: Yeah, what's the matter?
Stephanie: You're still trying to ambush Melanie, aren't you?
Philip: No, I'm not trying to ambush Melanie. I'm trying to do what's best for Titan.
Stephanie: So you keep saying. It's your mantra, right?
Philip: Steph, we've been through this. Look, you know my business philosophy. You know I'm not gonna change, and I'm not gonna apologize for it, okay? Come on, we were having fun. Let's go. Come on, let's forget about this. Let's go shoot some pool.
Stephanie: I had a nice time tonight, okay? But now I know what I need to do. Goodbye, Philip.
Daniel: I'm coming, coming.
Chloe: Daniel, run away with me, tonight.
Melanie: Shut up. Shut up. Shut up.
Melanie: Hey, Lavonne. It's [Clears throat] Stephanie Johnson up on the seventh floor. Listen, just hit the wrong button on my computer. Yeah, false alarm. You don't have to send anybody up. Okay, thank you. Come on, Melanie. Think. If I were Philip's password, what would I be? Stephanie. I would be... or not. Wait -- duh. Why didn't I think about this before? If I just log in... as administrator. [Giggles] E.J., You are so gonna thank me.
E.J.: Okay, time for me to go upstairs and check on Sydney and Nicole.
Stefano: Righto. Oh, and tell little Sydney that grandpapa will be up in just a moment to read a nice, little bedtime story.
E.J.: Will do.
Mary: I'm telling you. That little girl eats every two hours, like clockwork.
E.J.: Yeah, she has quite an appetite, hasn't she?
Mary: Would you like to do the honors?
E.J.: Um, sure. Where's Nicole?
Mary: I'm not sure. She just said she had to go out for a while.
Nicole: Brady, thank you so much. You have no idea what this means to me.
Brady: This is the last time, okay?
Nicole: Yeah, I promise. I won't ask you for anything again.
Brady: I want that in writing.
Nicole: I'll write it in blood if you want me to. Are you sure victor's not coming home?
Brady: Those hospital meetings, they take hours. He won't be home soon.
Nicole: What, you don't trust me? Okay, fine. Fine.
Brady: [Clears throat]
Nicole: Brady... you're a lifesaver.
Victor: What the hell is going on here?
Melanie: At first, it was about the money. But now, Philip and me -- it's personal.
Lucas: Chloe dumped me. Are you happy?
Kate: What the hell did you say to her?
Victor: You're going to tell me right now what you need that money for.
Brady: She doesn't have to. I will.
