E.J.: So, now the sun's up, you finally decide to get some sleep, do you? Oh, I don't know. You keep your mummy and daddy up half the night, and then [Clicks tongue] Out you go. Let me tell you something, young lady, if you think this entire house is just gonna stop what it's doing and start revolving around you... you're absolutely right, but don't tell anybody. God, you are so beautiful. There's a bunch of boys out there who have no idea what is gonna hit them. None. Hey.
E.J.: Thought I'd bring her down here and give you a chance to sleep. Have you been crying, sweetheart?
Nicole: Yeah. I'm sorry. It's just every time I see you with her, it just makes me so happy.
E.J.: Come here. You did a very good job with our baby. She looks just like you.
Nicole: No, she has your eyes. She looks just like you. Sorry.
E.J.: It's okay. Well, I don't think that blond hair and fair skin came from me.
Nicole: I'm sorry. Um, I have to get this.
E.J.: Sure. It's probably Harvard or Yale, class of 2026, holding her place.
Mia: Hey, Nicole. It's me. How's my little girl?
Nicole: Ah, she's fine. I told you.
Mia: I know, but you kind of rushed me off the phone before, and...look, Nicole, I got to talk to you...now.
Sami: You gave me quite a scare, little princess. You know that, don't you? I mean, I go to all the trouble of giving birth to you and you run off with the first guy you see. That doctor saved your life. But don't worry. I'm gonna make sure that you have a very, very happy life. Which means keeping you...as far away from your father's family as possible.
Hope: I didn't know you were there.
Bo: I just came down.
Hope: Checking up on me?
Bo: I woke up, you weren't there.
Hope: I'm having a little trouble sleeping.
Bo: Yeah. I know this is hell on you.
Hope: It didn't have to happen.
Bo: Hope, let's not start in on that.
Hope: You saw it coming. You saw... you saw me shooting Kayla and you say nothing?
Bo: Hope, I couldn't imagine a situation where you would do something like that, so I thought I was just going out of my mind.
Hope: I'm not just your wife. I'm your partner. You don't keep something like this to yourself. If I had known, I could have done something. I would have done something different.
Bo: You were in a hostage situation. You did what you had to do.
Hope: I'm glad you're so sure about this, because I'm not.
Chelsea: Um, can you use a hand with Ciara this morning?
Bo: Hey, kid.
Chelsea: I thought that maybe I could take care of her, and then you two could take care of each other.
Maggie: Whether I tell Lucas or not is based on what I think is right for Lucas.
Chloe: But this is right for him. It is. If you just give me one chance to make it right, I swear I will. Please, one chance.
Chloe: Hi. Excuse me. I was wondering if you could page Dr. Jonas for me.
I don't have to. He's right there.
Daniel: Hey. Looking for me?
Chloe: Hi. Yeah, um, I was -- I was wondering if I could ask you some follow-up questions about the transplant.
Daniel: Sure, yeah. Um... you don't sound good.
Chloe: No, I'm not. There's something you need to know.
Max: Yeah, well, call me if you need anything, all right? All right, bye.
Lucas: What's up, Max? Is something wrong?
Max: You obviously haven't seen the front page, have you?
Lucas: Kayla was shot?
Max: Yeah. I was just talking to ma, and she's hanging in there, but it was really touch and go yesterday, man.
Lucas: Dude, I'm really sorry about that. It says they killed the guy that killed the mayor.
Lucas: That's crazy. I guess -- I guess Sami's coming home now. I got to call Chloe.
Chloe: It's Lucas. I'll get it later.
Daniel: Look, I'm worried about you, and I feel awful about what happened the other day.
Chloe: Look, I didn't come here to cover the same ground, okay? I came here to tell you that when you left your apartment the other day, something happened.
Daniel: Hold on a second. I got to get this. This is an emergency.
Chloe: Okay, well, call me because there's something I have to tell you.
Daniel: Chloe, I'm sorry. It's work.
Chloe: Wait. Oh, great. What a wonderful way to start the day.
Maggie: Oh, good morning, Chloe.
Chloe: I was just leaving.
Maggie: Before you go, did you come here to talk to Daniel? More to the point, did you break off the affair?
Announcer: Tonight... everything that goes around comes around... at 33 and a third.
Yeah, baby, yeah.
Announcer: Why vinyl sales doubled last year. On tonight's "global national."
Nicole: Mia, are you all right? You -- you sound upset.
Mia: I'm getting ready to go to the airport. Leaving the country and I don't even know my own baby's name.
Nicole: Sydney. We named her Sydney.
Mia: That's beautiful. Thank you.
Nicole: No. Thank you...now and forever.
Mia: I think... I think I can do this now.
Nicole: I know you can. And God will look after you, just like you looked after your baby.
Mia: I hope so.
E.J.: Who was that?
Nicole: Oh. Uh...that's...
E.J.: You seem upset.
Nicole: No, no. Don't worry. Don't worry. I swear, I cry over everything since the baby came, and a telemarketer calls and I start thinking, "she's working for her family," and I'm just so lucky.
E.J.: I like the new sappy Nicole. You're adorable when you cry. You know that?
Nicole: All my life...I've wanted what other people had, and now I only want what I have.
E.J.: It must be what they call happiness.
Stefano: Buon giorno, good morning, good morning, and... congratulations.
E.J.: Father, what are you doing here?
Stefano: [Laughs] Silly question. So, introduce me to my new granddaughter. Bless you. I know that this baby is going to have your beauty and your strength.
Nicole: I, uh -- thank you. Thank you.
E.J.: See? You got him wrapped around your little finger.
Nicole: Yeah, I think that's all gonna change once he meets her.
[Baby voice] He's gonna forget my name once he meets Sydney, huh? Hi, bug. Here we go. Oh, look, your feet are exposed. Exposed feet. Yes. That's okay.
[Normal voice] Sydney, this is your grandpa.
E.J.: Sydney, can you say, "I want a pony"?
Stefano: Oh, my goodness gracious. She's beautiful. Hey, hi. And I will never forget what you have done for this family.
Hope: Actually, Ciara had a sleepover last night. We were -- it was a late night.
Chelsea: Right, um, okay, well, I could pick her up after preschool if you wanted.
Bo: Thanks. Nice to have backup, right?
Hope: Right. Aren't you gonna be late? You have that community-relations meeting.
Bo: It's no big deal.
Hope: "No big deal"? No, I-I don't think it's a good morning for a commissioner named Brady to be late. I think it's a good morning for us to go completely by the book.
Bo: Right. Hey, um, thanks, kid. If we need your help, I'll give you a call, okay?
Hope: It was really nice of you to offer. Thank you.
Chelsea: You're not really going in to work this morning, are you?
Hope: Absolutely. Of course I am. Just like I finished telling your father, we -- we have to go by the book.
Chelsea: Well, that really is -- what's the word -- bull.
Chloe: Maggie, I don't want to do this, and I certainly don't want to do this here.
Maggie: Well, this won't take long. Just tell me that you talked to Daniel and it's over.
Chloe: It's over.
Maggie: Does Daniel know?
Chloe: You know what? I really have to go.
Maggie: I didn't think so.
Lucas: How's Stephanie doing?
Max: She's pretty shaken up, but at least she got to see her mom after the surgery.
Lucas: Son of a bitch. How many lives has he torn apart?
Max: Yeah. Look, um, I'm gonna take off. I just want to make sure ma's not at the hospital 24/7, you know?
Lucas: All right, yeah, yeah. Take care, okay? I'm glad Kayla's feeling better.
Max: Thanks. I guess one good thing came out of it. Sami gets to come home. That's got to be good for Allie, right? I'll see ya.
Lucas: Yeah, see ya. She's coming home, all right. How the hell is she gonna explain that baby?
Sister Theresa: When she sleeps, she does look just like a little angel.
Sami: You know, I hadn't even realized. I've been living in fear for so long that I'd stopped noticing it. And now it is just so nice to be able to be here and be with Grace and not worry about some madman who's trying to kill us. And that's thanks to you. Thanks to Rafe... and Hilda.
Sister Theresa: Yeah, well, there's something about you that gets people on your side.
Sami: I'm pretty sure it's not me. I think it's Grace. And I want to thank you so much for -- for promising to look after her. I know she'll be very safe with you. Truth is, I-I don't know how I'm gonna leave her.
Stefano: You know, I think it's really amazing. I mean, it's like she almost looks exactly like Giovanni when he was a newborn.
E.J.: No. You think so?
Nicole: Oh, I was -- I was just saying she looks like E.J. Um, have you had breakfast yet? Do you want me to ask Mary --
Stefano: No, no, no. I've already eaten. Wait a minute. We should be waiting on you.
Nicole: Me? No, I'm fine.
Stefano: "Fine"? How can you be fine? You just had a baby. So...the delivery -- I mean, was it hard?
Nicole: No, no. It was -- it was quick.
Stefano: And, uh, Elvis here -- did he [Chuckles] Did he faint?
Nicole: He, um --
E.J.: Wasn't there.
E.J.: It's a long story, but I should have been there when Sydney was born. She wasn't breathing.
Nicole: But once -- once he got there, she was fine and just to be safe, we had a pediatrician --
Stefano: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. What do you mean that you were late? How the hell can you be late? The hospital's only 10 minutes away from here.
E.J.: I know that. Nicole wasn't at the hospital. Sydney was born at the clinic.
Stefano: What? I donate an entire wing at that hospital and my granddaughter is born in a shack? No wonder she had problems. No wonder things go wrong.
Nicole: Oh, Stefano, please, would you stop? Just stop.
Bo: Hey, man.
Max: Hey. What are you, uh, doing down here?
Bo: Playing hooky. I had a couple meetings this morning -- blew them off.
Max: Right. Talked to ma. Kayla had a good night. I mean, seems everything's going good.
Bo: Yeah, that's eat. I talked to ma, too.
Max: Talk to hope?
Bo: Ma's gonna call her.
Max: Ma? Why ma?
Bo: I'm kind of in the doghouse right now. Hope doesn't want to talk to me.
Hope: Oh! Oh, thank God. That's -- that's such good news. Thank you so much for calling. No, I'm -- I'm fine. Really, I -- please give Kay my love. Bye. She had a good night.
Chelsea: Well, that's a relief.
Hope: Yeah. Peachy. I didn't kill my own sister-in-law. Chelse, listen, honey, it's an understatement to say that I am not good company this morning.
Chelsea: I understand that. But I also kind of don't care. Hope, I-I know how it feels to feel really, really bad about something and wonder if people are ever gonna look at you the same way again.
Hope: Not people. Kayla.
Maggie: I've been waiting for you.
Daniel: Oh, well, Kayla's stable, and I just told Caroline to go home and get some rest.
Maggie: Yeah, I know that, but that's not what we're gonna talk about. We're gonna talk about you and Chloe.
Daniel: Excuse me?
Maggie: You're gonna break it off, Daniel. The affair is over.
Daniel: Well, I think you've made some kind of mistake.
Maggie: Really? I saw you. Chloe admitted it. So where do we go from here, doctor? That she was your patient, the fiancée of your lover's son?
Daniel: Look, this really isn't the place to have this --
Maggie: Oh, I know. You like things behind locked doors, don't you? Wouldn't want anyone to know what you are really like?
Daniel: I think you should go.
Maggie: You want me to go, but I won't. Not until I'm sure you're breaking this off. You see, while you obviously don't give a damn about Lucas or that poor girl's life, I do.
Sami: So, you have two big brothers and a big sister and a wonderful grandmother and a whole family that loves you so much. You just have one...grandfather that we have to be very careful about. That's all. And, um...and I love you, and I love your brothers and your sister very much.
[Baby fussing] And doing what's best for you sometimes means...that I have to leave you. I know that you don't understand this and that you...might never understand this... but leaving you is what's best for you right now, and, uh, so I think I'm gonna have to go away for a little while. And -- and sister Theresa's gonna take care of you. So it's just gonna be a little while before you get to meet your brothers and your sister. I'm afraid it might be a long while.
Nicole: Oh, this is what I was afraid of. All this yelling and drama. It's over, get it? E.J. Found me, we brought our baby -- our very healthy baby -- home, so we can just forget about last night.
Stefano: Nicole. Do you really think that is right, hmm? Do you think that is right for other women in the same situation?
Stefano: That clinic. What happened to this baby has to be because of the inadequate facilities and personnel at that place. Don't you think it is our duty to see that that place is investigated?
Stefano: Nicole, why do I have the feeling that there's something that you're not telling me?
Bo: I killed a man last night.
Bo: No matter how bad or crazy he was, I took a human life.
Bo: And hope shot Kayla, and it's gonna take her some time to absorb that.
Max: Yeah, well...maybe -- maybe if Kayla gets better, you know, you and hope, you guys can take off somewhere. I mean, Chelsea and I, we can take care of Ciara. It's no problem, man.
Bo: Hold on, hold on. I appreciate that. That's nice of you, but, um... I can't get away right now.
Max: Why not, huh?
Bo: This is why not. Brady. Yeah, I know. No, I understand. I kind of saw it coming. Yeah, right. Later.
Max: That wasn't good, was it?
Bo: No. It wasn't good at all.
Chelsea: I know that you don't really want to talk about it, but Kayla understands. You were trying to save her life.
Hope: When she looked at me... she trusted me. I made the wrong decision.
Chelsea: You didn't have a way of knowing.
Hope: That's not completely accurate.
Chelsea: Excuse me?
Hope: Nothing, never mind. Sweetheart, listen, I really -- I need to get to work, but thank you. I mean it.
Chelsea: Hope, what's going on with you and my dad?
Nicole: You're like one of those balloon clowns. I knock you over and you keep bouncing right back.
Stefano: First of all, I am not a clown. And secondly, I keep bouncing back because I know that there is something upsetting you.
Nicole: Yes. Yes, I am upset because we're right back where we started, Stefano. I have my own life. You are not allowed to dissect it. That is my daughter right there, and if we continue to live here, and I mean if, then E.J. and I are her parents, so if we don't have our -- our --
Nicole: Thank you. Yes, that. If we don't have that, I leave.
E.J.: Me too.
Nicole: And the plain truth is I would rather live in a mobile home than have you breathing down my neck.
Stefano: [Chuckles] I see that motherhood has softened you, hasn't it?
Nicole: I mean it, Stefano.
Stefano: I know you do. Of course, I think I'm probably crazy, but that's one of the reasons why I like you.
Chloe: Nicole. Oh, hi. I'm sorry.
Stefano: No, it's fine. I was just about to leave. We're just...letting Nicole have a little patience with me.
E.J.: Have I ever told you how much I love it when you put him in his place?
Nicole: Oh. Mm!
E.J.: All right, gramps, come with me. We have work to discuss.
Stefano: All right.
E.J.: Chloe, the beautiful baby is right over there.
Chloe: Oh. Can I see her?
[Baby voice] Ooh. Hey, you. You put those feet down. Sydney, little missy. Ooh, she's so sleepy. Hold on. Oh, yes. Sydney, this is Chloe. Now, she is a very bad influence, but she is so much fun. And when you get bigger, we are all gonna go shopping for shoes and bootees.
[Normal voice] You want to hold her? Isn't she pretty? Chloe, what's wrong?
Chloe: Everything -- Lucas, Daniel.
Nicole: Daniel? Is that the guy that -- oh, my God.
Chloe: We can't stop. I love Lucas, but I can't stay away from Daniel. Nicole, what am I gonna do?
Announcer: How do you understand why those who work their way to the top, will risk a fall all the way down? Making sense of it all, it begins right here. "Global national." News understood.
Daniel: You're obviously upset and tired.
Maggie: And right.
Daniel: And you're not going to help by interfering.
Maggie: No. You're not gonna get your way if I interfere. That poor girl is lost. You have her so confused and so guilty.
Daniel: Do you really think that Chloe would be this unhappy, this torn up, if the choice were obvious? That if she and Lucas were really, I mean really meant to be together, that she would feel like this?
Maggie: Do you hear how arrogant you are?
Daniel: I am just -- you know what? I shouldn't even be talking to you about this. 'Cause trust me, you really don't know what's going on. And in any case, this is none of your business.
Maggie: You're wrong about Chloe and Lucas.
Daniel: No, I am not.
Maggie: Unh-unh, unh-unh. They have a shot at being very happy together, and trust me, I'm not gonna let you take that chance away from them. Now, you get out of her life or I'll take care of the situation myself.
Nicole: So...how many times?
Nicole: I'm not being nosy.
[Chuckles] Okay, maybe I am a little, but it wasn't just once, was it? Firm resolve, moral rectitude -- they don't work, do they? You can't end it, can you? Okay, honey, you [Clears throat] You probably don't want to hear this, but I don't think this is just about Daniel or Lucas.
Chloe: Well, then, what is it about?
Nicole: Being free.
Lucas: Hey, E.J. How's it going?
E.J.: Fine. Thank you, Lucas. Nicole had the baby last night, a little girl.
Lucas: Nice. Good for you. Congratulations. Nicole's okay? The baby's okay?
E.J.: Yeah, they're both fine. Thanks.
Lucas: Any idea when Sami's coming home?
E.J.: I don't know, Lucas. I would imagine as soon as they catch that killer chap.
Lucas: Well, I guess, you know, you've been a little busy with the baby and Nicole and everything, but Bo shot that guy. Sami's coming home.
E.J.: Wow. That's, um...terrific news. Johnny's gonna be thrilled. I'm sure Allie is.
Lucas: Yeah, yeah. What are you thinking?
E.J.: [Sighs] I'm just thinking about how... profoundly Samantha's been able to affect my life and...how she's not gonna be able to do that anymore.
Lucas: Wouldn't be too sure about that.
Bo: No, no. Uh, I'm on my way home now, but I'm gonna need you ready to move right away. Yeah. Later.
Max: Who was that? What's the problem, man?
Bo: I can't tell you just yet. I got to get home. Hey, listen, man, um, I'm glad we bumped into each other. It was good to talk to you.
Max: Yeah, man. You know, take care, and take care of hope.
Bo: Gonna do my best.
E.J.: What exactly is that supposed to mean, Lucas?
Lucas: Well, I don't want to bring you down or anything, especially after the baby.
E.J.: Why would Samantha coming back bring me down?
Lucas: Well, you and Nicole, you're together now. You and Sami share custody of Johnny.
E.J.: Oh, and Samantha and Nicole, they hate each other.
Lucas: Right. Yeah, they do. You know, I could be wrong. I could be wrong. There could be peace in the middle east.
E.J.: I wouldn't worry about Samantha, Lucas. She's not the threat she used to be.
Sami: Oh, sweetie. Oh, little princess Grace. Saying goodbye to you is gonna be the hardest thing that I have ever, ever had to do. But sister Theresa is gonna take really good care of you. She is gonna be so fun for you.
[Baby fussing] I know. I know. We're not gonna cry, though, are we? You and I, we're not gonna cry, are we, sweetheart? 'Cause we're gonna be back together soon. Yes, we are. I promise. Then I will come back for you. I promise you that I will come back for you. I will always come back for you. I will always come back for you. I promise. I will always come back for you.
Chloe: "Free"? I don't know what you mean.
Nicole: I think a part of you knows exactly what I mean. You love Lucas, but not enough to belong to him for the rest of your life, and I think your body is telling you what your head doesn't want to hear -- that you're moving to fast, that you're not ready to give up being single and free, selfish and impulsive.
Chloe: Nicole, you don't understand. Daniel and I -- it's not a secret anymore.
Nicole: Lucas knows?
Chloe: No, but Maggie Horton does, and I don't know what she's gonna do.
Daniel: I think you're threatening me.
Maggie: I think you're right.
Daniel: With going to Lucas. That is not gonna help anyone. It's not gonna help Chloe, and it sure as hell is not gonna help Lucas.
Maggie: Daniel, you are the only one involved enjoying the status quo. Lucas and Chloe are still planning on getting married.
Daniel: I am aware of that.
Maggie: Lucas is going into a lifelong commitment missing a piece of crucial information. Now, as painful as that will be on short-term, he needs to know that the woman he's getting married to isn't involved with -- well, you're not much of a man, but do you get my point? So...either I am sure that this affair is over, or I will do what I really believe I have to do.
Chelsea: So, yeah, my dad and hope -- it's really bad.
Max: Yeah, I just talked to Bo.
Chelsea: What did he say?
Max: Nothing. He didn't want to tell me anything.
Chelsea: It's just weird, 'cause they would always, you know, finish each other's sentences. And, like, the little looks that they would give each other?
Max: Yeah, it was kind of too good to be true, right?
Chelsea: Yeah. But not anymore. Now...now they don't even talk at all. It's like something is seriously wrong.
Max: Yeah, and I don't know why.
Chelsea: It almost seems as if hope is mad at my dad, but I can't figure out why.
Max: I think Bo -- I think Bo knows why, but he thinks hope has a reason to blame him for everything that's happened.
Chelsea: Yeah, and I understand that when something horrible happens, you kind of go crazy, but it just seems like hope is pushing my dad away.
Max: Yeah, and he's the only one who can really help her, except for that one person he called.
Chelsea: What are you talking about?
Max: Well, he got a phone call, and then he called somebody else. And I do-- I don't know, Chelse. I think whatever's going on, I think it's only gonna get worse.
Bo: Don't pick that up.
Hope: What? Why?
Bo: Let it go to voicemail.
Hope: Why? Is something wrong with Kayla? Your mother said that she was --
Bo: No, it's not about Kay. It's, um -- it's internal affairs.
Hope: Don't waste time, do they?
Bo: They want to see you right away. I'll take you down there.
Hope: Well, isn't this were you're supposed to say it's standard? A cop shoots a civilian, it gets investigated. It's procedure, right?
Bo: Fancy face, this, is, uh... let's go.
Hope: Just when I was having such a beautiful day.
Daniel: You're tired and angry. Is this is a good time to make that decision?
Maggie: Just tell me it's over, Daniel. No, wait. Tell me and mean it. And then I won't say a word to anyone.
Daniel: To tell you would be easy, Maggie. And it certainly would make things simpler for Chloe. But I, uh... I won't do it. Now, I don't know what's gonna happen. I don't know. But I do know this is none of your business.
[Elevator doors open]
Maggie: Grand talking to you, Daniel.
Stefano: [Chuckles] The most interesting call.
Stefano: Ugh. No wonder the Irish have to put liquor in their coffee.
E.J.: Actually, I have a rather interesting piece of news myself.
Stefano: That Samantha Brady is no longer in need of protection.
E.J.: Why is it that you insist on knowing everything first, hmm?
Stefano: Pity that she can come back, huh? I mean, there's been a certain kind of -- I don't know -- tranquility in Salem for the past few months.
E.J.: I'm sure Johnny's missed her.
E.J.: [Sighs] Nicole has me. She has Sydney. And if Samantha wants to come around to the house and pick up Johnny, she doesn't exactly have to be there, does she?
Stefano: I supposed you're right. Still...
E.J.: Still what?
Stefano: [Sighs] Two women, two babies, one father -- does not sound to me like the makings of a domestic tranquility.
E.J.: Father, we have been through this. Samantha and I share a son. That's it, okay?
Chloe: The way that Maggie looked at me, it just made me feel sick inside.
Nicole: You don't think she would tell Lucas, do you? That would hurt him too much.
Chloe: Maybe she thinks it would hurt him more to marry someone like me.
Nicole: Okay, you need to stop that. So you slept with Daniel. What, now you're not good enough to marry Lucas? Lucas -- we're not talking about Mr. Perfect here.
Chloe: Well, he's been perfect to me and I haven't been to him.
Nicole: I'm sorry. And I'm sorry you're so unhappy.
Chloe: I don't think that you get that I really do love Lucas. And a life with him, it wouldn't seem like a prison. In fact, it would probably be like a dream come true.
Nicole: Well, then, make it happen. Do whatever it takes to get what you want. I wanted E.J. I wanted this baby. And do you think I liked having to --
Chloe: Having to what? What are you talking about?
Nicole: Just about -- about what you should do about Maggie -- I think you should go to her and you should talk to her.
Chloe: No, that's not what you were talking about. Nicole... what did you do?
Philip: The loser here -- that would be you.
Nicole: I-I need one last favor and then everything will be perfect for E.J. and me.
Maggie: This isn't easy, Lucas, but it just simply has to be said.
