Provided By EricStephanie: It's my dad.
Philip: Oh, no. He knows. He's gonna kill me. Don't answer it.
Stephanie: I have to. Hey, Papa. What's going on?
Steve: Baby girl, um...I got some bad news. It's about your mom.
Stephanie: What about her?
Steve: There was an accident. She's been shot.
Hope: This -- this is why you didn't want me to see Kayla. I was supposed to go and visit her and you told me -- what was it that you told me?
Bo: It's not important.
Hope: Yeah, no, it is impor-- you said it was -- it was a bad idea. You said you wanted my company. You said you wanted to go over some ideas about the Marino case.
Bo: Because --
Hope: Because -- because you -- you had a vision of me shooting Kayla.
Bo: Yeah, I had a vision, but it wasn't very clear. It didn't -- hope, I didn't want to burden you or scare you.
Hope: So you lied. You lied.
Bo: Listen to me, hope.
Hope: You lied. You lied right to my face, and now I'm [Sighs] I'm burdened with knowing that I shot your sister and you could have stopped this. For the love of God, you could have stopped this. Kayla could die. My God, and you could have stopped this.
Lexie: Okay, we've got her prepped for surgery.
Steve: Can I go in to see her just for a minute?
Lexie: Yeah, sure.
E.J.: Darling, what are you doing?
Nicole: [Chuckles] I was just looking for my camera. You know, we, um -- we really should have Mary take a picture of all three of us.
E.J.: Mm, I gave her the night off. Actually, I gave everybody the night off. Thought we could do with spending a little bit of time alone.
Nicole: I, uh -- I like that.
E.J.: Just me...and my two favorite girls.
Rafe: Sami, the killer's dead. It's over. You're safe now.
Sami: I just need more time, Rafe.
Rafe: Sami, I can't stay.
Sami: Rafe, I have to think about this baby's future. I need more time. I can't go home yet. I just can't.
Melanie: Whoa, slow down there, champ.
Philip: Have you seen the McGill file?
Melanie: I could have sworn I saw it...around here somewhere. It was red, right?
Philip: Yeah. That's red.
Melanie: [Laughs] What do you know?
Philip: Can I get it?
Melanie: Well, be my guest.
Philip: Now, come on now, Melanie.
Melanie: I just remembered. I got the updated projection for the fuel project. We are gonna be rolling in it soon. Take a look. Like what you see?
Philip: Definitely. I just hope this doesn't mean you're gonna cash in any time soon.
Melanie: Why...you've got what you wanted.
Philip: Not yet I haven't.
Melanie: What? Oh!
Max: What's up? What are you daydreaming about?
Melanie: Nothing. Stuff, work. [Giggles] Is it hot in here?
Stephanie: Damn it. Where's my purse?
Philip: What can I do? Here, there it is right there.
Stephanie: I have to get out of here.
Philip: Let's go.
Steve: I love you so much, baby. Before I met you... my life was... was nothing. All those years we were kept apart... it was a waste. You g-- you got to stay with me, baby.
Kayla: I won't leave you. Trust me.
Steve: With my life.
Announcer: Tonight... in a car accident, he lost his youth.
I couldn't eat or walk for four years.
Announcer: Here, he's Sami. It's time to move on.
Sami: That's easy for you to say.
Rafe: Yeah, well, my boss is gonna expect me back. Well, what about you? All you've been talking about for months is your twins, how much you miss them and can't wait to see them. But now you finally can. Isn't that what you want?
Sami: Of course it is. More than anything. But this little girl needs me, too.
Rafe: Well, Sami, we can't put this off.
Sami: I can't go back to Salem right now. I mean, well, look at me. I-I have to lose the baby weight and --
Rafe: Oh, come on, you look great.
Sami: Oh, stop it. Thank you. I -- someone would figure it out. I mean, I just need a week.
Rafe: I don't know.
Sami: Oh, come on. Rafe, look, you're in no condition to travel anyway, right? So you could recuperate here and -- and I could have some more time with my little girl. It's perfect.
Rafe: Hmm. It's your dad. Hernandez. Oh, hey, commander Brady. Sami? Yes, she's right here.
Nicole: And to think I've been entrusted with this innocent life.
E.J.: It's overwhelming at first, but it becomes second nature very soon. Then you won't be able to imagine your life without her. What are you thinking?
Nicole: My childhood -- how screwed up it was from moment one.
E.J.: You'll be a better mother for it. You know that. I've never met anybody as kind, as gentle, or as loving as you.
Nicole: Yeah, I just -- I don't want to let her down.
E.J.: You won't. Besides, she's a tough one, you know? She had a rocky start. But look at her. She pulled through with flying colors.
Nicole: Yeah, she did.
E.J.: I just wish her daddy could have been there.
Nicole: Okay, you need to stop feeling guilty about that. It's not your fault.
E.J.: I know, I know, I know. I'm just disappointed. That's all. But...I am not going to dwell on it. And we are going to look forward only. I'll tell you this -- I'm not missing one more important moment in this little girl's life. Oh, I've had an idea. I'll be back in a second.
[Baby voice] Yes. That's your daddy. Mm-hmm. [Normal voice] So, little one, how's it feel, huh, to be so loved?
[Cellphone rings] The phone. Shh, shh, shh. The phone, the phone. Hello?
Mia: Hey, Nicole. It's Mia.
Nicole: Mia? What do you want?
Lexie: It's time.
Steve: I'll see you real soon, baby. Take good care of her. I love you, too.
Hope: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
Steve: My God, you knew? I mean, you actually knew this was gonna happen?
Nicole: Mia, I-I might have to hang up on you, okay, if E.J. Walks in.
Mia: Yeah, yeah, no problem. I just -- I had to know how she's doing.
Nicole: The -- the baby's fine. Great. Did -- did Dr. Baker stop by? I asked him to check up on you.
Mia: Yeah. Yeah, he was here. I got a clean bill of health.
Mia: And I got the cash you left me. Thanks. I'm gonna use part of it on a plane ticket to Japan. I'm leaving tomorrow.
Nicole: That's great.
Mia: Is that her?
Nicole: Yeah. Shh, honey, it's okay.
Mia: Has she been crying a lot?
Nicole: No, not really. Look, I-I-I have to go.
Mia: Okay, okay. Um...I'll talk to you some other time.
Nicole: Sure. Oh, whenever. Whenever.
Mia: Say hi to her for me. That's dumb. I mean...I don't know what I mean. Just tell her whatever you want.
Nicole: Mia, I'm sorry. I know that this is --
Mia: No, never mind. She's doing okay because she has you and you really love her and that's all I care about.
Nicole: I-I got to go.
E.J.: Were you talking to someone, darling?
Nicole: Oh [Chuckles] No, I was -- I was just telling our little girl how much I love her and that she's the best gift I ever got. Thanks.
E.J.: This is to us. To a lifetime of...love... happiness...and family.
Rafe: That shouldn't be a problem, commander.
Roman: All right, put Sami on, would you please?
Roman: Hey. Good to hear your voice.
Sami: Yeah. I, um -- I guess I get to come home, huh?
Roman: Soon. Soon. But I need you to stay put for just a little while longer until we make sure this guy was acting on his own. Now, sweetheart, listen to me. I'm afraid I have some bad news. I didn't want you to hear it from somebody else.
Sami: What news?
Roman: Your aunt Kayla is in the hospital. She's been shot.
Sami: Oh, my God.
Roman: Bullet was meant for the killer, hit Kayla instead.
Sami: That is so awful. How bad is it?
Roman: She's in surgery right now, but I promise you I will call you as soon as I hear anything.
Sami: Okay, please do that. And, um -- and please tell uncle Steve that I am praying for her.
Roman: I'll tell him that. All right, I'll see you soon. I love you very much.
Sami: I love you, too. [Sighs]
Rafe: Your dad told me about your aunt. I'm sorry.
Sami: All the horrible things this guy has put all of us through.
Rafe: Well, he can't hurt any one of us now, can he?
Sami: Did he also tell you that my dad wants me to stay put until they make sure it's okay?
Rafe: Yeah. You got your way...as usual.
Rafe: For what?
Sami: Well, you're gonna be stuck with me for a little while longer anyway.
Melanie: It was nice to, uh -- for you to come get me.
Max: No problem. So, uh, where do you want to grab dinner?
Melanie: I don't know. You decide. I'll get my stuff.
Max: Okay. So, anything new with the, uh, project?
Melanie: Uh, no. Oh, my gosh. But wait till you see.
Max: See what? Oh, ho ho. New business cards. That's cool.
Melanie: That is raised lettering.
Max: Spare no expense.
Melanie: [Giggles] Keep it. I've got like a million of them.
Max: All right, thank you. Uh, but you didn't answer my question.
Max: About nick's fuel project. You're not still playing the DiMeras verse Titan, are you?
Melanie: I'm, uh -- I'm feeling things out. You know, waiting to, uh [Clears throat] To make my next move.
Max: Uh-huh. Right.
[Cellphone rings] Oh. Hey, ma.
Caroline: Oh, Max, I'm so glad you picked up.
Max: You sound upset.
Caroline: I have some tough news about your sister Kayla. She's been shot.
Caroline: She's in surgery right now.
Max: Okay, are you guys at the hospital?
Caroline: We all are.
Max: I'm -- I'll be right down. My sister Kayla, she's been -- she's been shot. I-I got to go.
Melanie: Wait, Max, I'm coming with you.
Bo: Steve, I didn't -- I didn't know. It wasn't like I had a movie going on in my -- you saw how confused I was. I just had these crazy images going on inside my head and I couldn't make any sense of them.
Steve: Baby girl. I got you.
Hope: Don't, don't, don't.
Bo: Would you listen to me? Even if I had told you about these visions...
Hope: What? Finish your sentence.
Bo: Well, it would have been like the Marino case. There was no way I was gonna keep you out of that.
Hope: I don't even know what that means.
Bo: I told you to stay away from Kayla, and you came and saw her anyway.
Hope: Okay, my God. And how many times did I ask you why? Why didn't you want me to see Kayla? How many times did I ask you that, Brady? Why didn't you just tell me?
Bo: Because...I-I had these vis-- I couldn't make any sense of these visions. How could I think you would take me seriously?
Hope: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. You didn't -- you didn't just say that, did you? Didn't I take you seriously when you knew what had happened to Theo?
Hope: And yet, this time, you didn't even give me a chance.
Bo: Well, because it was very different.
Hope: Oh, yeah, it was --
Bo: I didn't know what was go-- I thought I was going crazy, hope.
Hope: And you chose not to share that with me, either.
Bo: Hope, come on.
Hope: Don't. J-- no.
Bo: Hey, roman.
Roman: Look, I'm sorry to have to do this right now, but I need you to tell me what happened.
Hope: Why don't you ask the commissioner? He knows exactly what happened.
Steve: No thanks.
Philip: Hey. What are you doing here?
Melanie: Nice to see you, too, Philip.
Philip: Look, Stephanie has enough to worry about without --
Melanie: Without me what? Breathing the same air? And that's why I came, right? To really torture Stephanie. Her mom is in the hospital and her whole world is falling apart, so I thought now would be the best time to really stick it to her. I'm here for Max. He's worried about his sister.
Philip: I'm sorry.
Max: Steph, how you doing?
Rafe: I don't think of it as being stuck with you, okay?
Sami: You can always call my dad back and get yourself replaced.
Rafe: Oh, you're trying to get rid of me now?
Sami: No. Not at all. I just really thought you'd want to go.
Rafe: I don't. As much as I hate to admit it, you were right. I do need some time to recuperate, and why not do it here? Besides, you're the one that I'm worried about.
Sami: You know what? I'm gonna figure something out. I always do. I just -- I just can't leave my little baby girl yet.
Rafe: "Yet"? Are you sure you're ever gonna be able to leave her?
Dr. Hayden: She's a cute one and perfectly healthy.
E.J.: I mean, you -- you know there were some complications.
Dr. Hayden: Yes, I know, but everything looks fine now.
E.J.: Okay. Sorry. Needed to hear that.
E.J.: Thank you, doctor. I really appreciate you making the house call.
Nicole: Yes, thank you.
Dr. Hayden: Call me if there are problems if -- although I don't anticipate any, and I'd like to see her in the office in a couple of days for shots and blood work.
Dr. Hayden: Just routine medical testing. We'll check her weight, blood typing.
Nicole: "Blood typing"? No.
E.J.: Why, is there a problem, sweetheart?
Sami: As much as I hate the thought of leaving her...I have to stay focused on what's best for her, protecting her. And I'll do whatever it takes to protect her from the DiMeras.
Rafe: You're a good mother, Sami.
Sami: I wonder if, um, Nicole's had her baby.
Rafe: [Chuckles] Oh, that's right. Still another DiMera baby coming into the world.
Sami: Well, I guess I should be grateful because it'll help me hide the truth from E.J. He'll be so focused on his happy, little family.
Nicole: Come here. There's no problem. I just hate the idea of our precious little girl being used as a pincushion, you know, jabbed with a needle while she's screaming her head off. [Baby voice] That doesn't sound like fun, now does it?
Dr. Hayden: What's your blood type, Nicole?
Dr. Hayden: We'd be checking for A.B.O. Incompatibility. Depending on your type, we may not have to do a work-up on your daughter.
Nicole: Oh, uh, well, I'm b-positive.
Dr. Hayden: You lucked out.
Nicole: I did? I mean, that's great.
Dr. Hayden: Here's the paperwork for the birth certificate. Of course, you'll have to come up with a name before they can process it.
E.J.: Yeah. We do have rather an extensive list to go through. Don't we, sweetheart?
Dr. Hayden: I guess that's about it, then. Oh, will you be wanting to meet with a lactation consultant? I can recommend someone.
Nicole: I, uh -- I decided -- well, I-I tried nursing, and I don't feel confident about it.
E.J.: Excuse me. You haven't given it a lot of time, Nicole.
Nicole: I know it's supposed to be good for the baby.
Dr. Hayden: It is. I always recommend it at least for a few months.
Nicole: Well, I'm sorry. It's just -- it's just not for me. Look, you know, I was bottle-fed when I was a kid and I'm fine. Yeah. You're not disappointed, are you?
E.J.: It's your choice, obviously. Thank you.
Dr. Hayden: Okay, then. You're good to go. Don't forget to make that appointment.
E.J.: We won't. Thank you.
Nicole: Thanks again.
E.J.: Sweetheart, I thought you wanted to breast-feed.
Nicole: Oh, I -- I did.
E.J.: Okay. So what changed?
Philip: Steph. Hey. I've been looking for you.
Stephanie: I went to the chapel. I just needed some time to myself.
Philip: I'm sure you'll hear something soon. Stephanie. I hope you don't feel guilty or anything.
Stephanie: For what?
Philip: Well, because of what we were doing when you got the call about your mom. I hope you don't have any regrets.
Stephanie: Philip, I don't regret anything.
Max: Hey. What's wrong?
Melanie: Nothing I can't handle.
Lexie: The surgery is still in progress, but I thought you'd want an update.
Lexie: The good news is the bullet missed her heart and lungs, but it punctured the pericardial sac, which presents a new set of complications.
Caroline: What kind of complications?
Lexie: Right now, there's fluid leaking from the sac, so we'll need to stitch it up. In order to do that, we'll have to stop her heart for a few minutes. It's our only option. Steve.
Steve: Do what you -- do what you got to do.
Nicole: Like I told the doctor, I tried nursing several times, but my milk wouldn't come in.
E.J.: Sweetheart, you've only been at it for a day. Can't you just give it a little bit more time?
Nicole: I mean, I've just been thinking about it, you know, and this whole breast-feeding thing is just -- it's not for me. You know, I don't feel confident about it. [Baby voice] Oh, let's keep it in. Let's keep in it and you'll be happy. There. [Normal voice] Please don't be upset with me.
E.J.: Well, it's your choice. [Clears throat]
Nicole: Thank you, E.J., For understanding.
Nicole: What? What's that look for?
E.J.: Well, I think I know the real reason you don't want to breast-feed.
Nicole: You do?
E.J.: Yeah. 'Cause you don't want to get up for those 3:00 A.M. Feedings.
Nicole: [Chuckles] Oh, yeah, I forgot about that.
E.J.: I bet you did.
Nicole: Okay, well, we can take turns.
E.J.: Okay, well, that seems fair.
Nicole: Well, uh...would you like to do the honors starting now?
E.J.: Yeah. Oh, God, I'd love to.
Nicole: The bottle's in the diaper bag right there. [Baby voice] There it is. Now put that down. Let's see how your daddy does, huh?
Nicole: Oh, ho ho ho. Let's see. We have to do a switcheroo.
Nicole: A little switcheroo.
E.J.: You're gonna like this one, though.
Nicole: And go, quick. Oh! [Normal voice] It's it amazing how you can love someone so much after only knowing her a day?
Sami: My little darling. My little sweetheart, mommy's here. I'm right here.
Rafe: I haven't spent a lot of time around newborns. Or their mothers. But I think it's pretty amazing. I think you're amazing.
Sami: Thank you. That's very sweet. It's hard to believe that just yesterday...she wasn't even born yet.
Rafe: Well, a lot's happened in the last 24 hours.
Sami: You could say that again. You were almost killed, and they caught the mayor's killer, and this little life began.
Rafe: It's kind of a blur, isn't it?
Sami: And before long, we'll be, um, going our separate ways.
Nicole: I could look at her all night.
E.J.: Look at her ears. They're tiny. Tiny.
Nicole: And her rosy little cheeks.
E.J.: Mm. Did you see that? Cute little way she furrowed her brow? Where have I seen that before?
Rafe: So? Who does she look like?
Sami: I don't know. Not E.J.
Rafe: Not you.
Rafe: Not really. Not yet anyway.
Sami: Well, she doesn't look like her brothers or her sister, either.
Rafe: Well, DNA can be a strange thing, I guess.
Sami: I guess it's a good thing, really. This way, E.J. Won't suspect a thing.
Nicole: Well, I think I might know where I've seen that expression before.
E.J.: No? Really?
Nicole: Yeah. Oh, there it is.
E.J.: Goodness, poor kid. Wow.
Nicole: Who cares who the baby looks like? I mean, as long as she's happy and healthy.
E.J.: That's true.
Nicole: And, you know, Dr. Hayden is right. We should probably name our child. [Chuckles]
E.J.: You think so?
E.J.: Where'd you put that list?
Nicole: In the, uh, diaper bag. Let's start with the names that we put stars by.
E.J.: Okay. [Clears throat] Okay, uh...Jensen. Adele.
Nicole: Hmm. Mm.
E.J.: Seeing if she looks like one. Erin. I kind of like Erin, actually.
Rafe: Okay, what about Erin? I kind of like that for a girl. [Irish accent] Nice and Irish for you.
Sami: [Laughs] I like Erin, but does she look like an Erin? I don't know.
Rafe: [Normal voice] Okay. Um...what about Carolina? That's pretty. No? Uh...Skylar? Nice?
Rafe: Oh, here we go. Jenna. Jenna -- I, uh -- actually, I knew a Jenna in high school. She was the most beautiful, popular girl. Wouldn't give me the time of day, of course, but...
Sami: Wait a second. I think we don't need that list after all. I think I came up with the perfect name.
E.J.: All right, page 106.
E.J.: Shelby. Sadie. Susan, actually.
E.J.: You know, I'm always gonna be a bit partial to Susan.
Nicole: Mm-hmm, because of your mother.
E.J.: Yeah. It's a bit of a plain name, though, I suppose.
Nicole: Yeah, but we can always stick with the S's.
E.J.: Well, that does seem to be the consensus.
E.J.: Okay, what do we got?
Nicole: I know. How about Sydney?
E.J.: Now, let's try it.
Sami: Well, it just occurred to me I need to say some prayers for my aunt Kayla and for this little girl. My grandmother is the one who taught me to say the rosary when I was little.
Rafe: Ah. Solid Catholic upbringing. I remember those days.
Sami: [Laughs] But, you know, I mean, it all starts with the hail Mary and...
Rafe: Mary. That's what you're gonna name her.
Sami: I was thinking of naming her Grace. Because it's through the Grace of God that I have her.
Sami: You like that?
Steve: Yeah? Tell me it's good news.
Lexie: She made it through the surgery. Her condition has stabilized. The prognosis is very good.
Caroline: Oh, thank God. Thank you, Lexie.
Steve: What did I tell you? Didn't I tell you she was gonna be all right, huh? Yes, I did.
Stephanie: Thank you for being here. I'm not sure I could have gotten through this without you.
Max: Well, long night, huh?
Roman: Yeah, but, uh, good stuff. What, are you heading home?
Max: No, I think I might hang around for a little bit.
Roman: Okay, well, I'm gonna go call Sami.
Max: All right.
Roman: Take care, man.
Lexie: Do you want to go in and see Kayla?
Steve: Are you kidding? Of course we do.
Lexie: Okay, follow me.
Philip: Take care.
Melanie: Great news about Kayla, right?
Philip: Yeah, the best.
Melanie: Uh, do you have a second? I want to talk to you about some work stuff.
Philip: Let's do it in the morning, okay?
Hope: Well, I'm gonna head home. I really need to get home to Ciara.
Bo: Okay, I'll drive you.
Hope: No, no, it doesn't make sense to leave a car here. Besides, I just -- I really need a little time alone. Bye.
E.J.: I think this is the happiest day of my life.
Nicole: [Chuckles] It's definitely the happiest of mine.
E.J.: I missed a lot of this with Johnny. One of...the biggest regrets that I have. I'm not gonna make the same mistake with her.
[Cellphone vibrating] Could you reach into my pocket and grab my cellphone? Other pocket.
Nicole: Other pocket? [Laughs] Oh, no. Shh, stop ringing.
E.J.: Somebody's calling Daddy. Oh, it's work. No, don't, don't, don't.
Nicole: You don't have to get it?
E.J.: No, I don't. Just put it down. The only thing I have to do is spend some time...with my new daughter, Sydney.
E.J.: Who I love very much. I love you.
Nicole: I love you.
Sami: Do you, um... do you want to hold her?
Rafe: I better not. She'll probably just start screaming.
Sami: Oh, come on. She's not gonna start screaming.
Rafe: I don't know.
Sami: Just take her. Just take her. Just be real gentle with her head. Yeah, there, you got her. [Laughs] Look at that.
Rafe: Hey there, Grace.
Rafe: Hey, look at that. She's smiling at me.
Rafe: Wow. You okay?
Sami: I know sister Theresa's gonna take really good care of her, but I just don't know how I'm gonna be separated from my little baby.
Steve: No, you want it. Yes, you do. Oh, yes, you do. Oh, yeah, it's good. Look who's here. Look who's here. There she is.
E.J.: She's in heaven.
Sami: Yeah, just rock her back and forth. Shh.
Sami: I know that you don't understand this, but leaving you is what's best for you right now.
Maggie: We're gonna talk about you and Chloe.
Daniel: Excuse me?
Maggie: You're gonna break it off, Daniel. The affair is over.
Chloe: I love Lucas, but I can't stay away from Daniel. Nicole, what am I gonna do?
