Daniel: What are you doing here? You did get my message.

Chloe: I did.

Daniel: Well, I meant what I said. It's over. We cannot be together.

Chloe: I know. That's why I'm here. Well, are you gonna let me in? Because I'm gonna stand out here all night until you do.

Hope: I'll let you put the sugar in.

Bo: Okay, thanks.

Hope: Hey, where'd you go? Bo.

Maggie: So, it's good to talk to you, Jessica. Give Joshua my best. Okay, I will. Bye-bye.

[Gasps] Oh, my God.

Rafe: [Grunting] Sami. Sami, be careful.

E.J.: No, the meeting went very well. Molto bene, huh? And quickly, too, thankfully. I can get home all the sooner. No, she's my fiancée now.

Sister Theresa: Honey, try to get some more sleep.

Sami: No. No, I can't, not until I know what's wrong.

Sister Theresa: Remember what the nurse said. You have to stay in bed.

Sami: I can't. But I will. I'll stay here. I'll stay here if you go and you find out what's wrong with her. Please, just go! I need to know what's wrong with her right now.

Dr. Baker: I'm sorry. What did you say?

Nicole: I want Sami's baby.

Dr. Baker: We had this all settled. But that was before I knew about her.

Dr. Baker: Nicole, you wanted Mia's baby, and you got her. You should be damn grateful for that.

Nicole: I am. I am grateful. I am. I mean, I-I love her. I helped deliver her. She's so beautiful and sweet.

Dr. Baker: So, what's the problem?

Nicole: Please, Dr. Baker, don't make this any harder for me than it already is. Let me take Sami's baby, and you can have Mia's.

Sami: Look, if you're not gonna do anything, then I will.

Sister Theresa: Samantha, please, you mustn't get out of bed.

Sami: I have to find out what's wrong with my child. If you won't help me --

Sister Theresa: All right. All right, I'll go. I'll just get a nurse to stay with you.

Sami: I don't need a nurse, okay? I just need to know that she's okay. Please, I'm begging you!

Sister Theresa: All right, I'll go. I'll go. I'll see what I can find out.

Dr. Baker: Out of the question. This is beyond the pale of --

Nicole: No one has to know. Don't you see? Everything's coming together.

Dr. Baker: Coming together? What are you -- did you plan this? Okay, sweetheart. I'm gonna put you down just for a second, okay? Sleepytimes. Yeah, okay.

[Sighs] When I found out that Sami was pregnant and E.J. Was the father, I was so envious. She was carrying his baby, his flesh and blood. And I thought, wouldn't it be amazing if I could give E.J. a baby that was his biologically? So, I went and talked to the nun, and I gave her your business card. And I thought if -- if Sami gave birth here...

Dr. Baker: That you could take her baby?

Nicole: And you... could give Mia's to the convent. Don't you see? This is fate. I mean, these babies were born almost the exact same time, and they are both little girls. They just accidentally got put in different bassinets. Stranger things have happened.

Dr. Baker: First time I laid eyes on you, I knew something was off. Now I'm convinced. You're a psychopath.

Chloe: Your message. It was a complete 180. You do know that, don't you? I mean, just earlier, you were urging me to tell people about us, that it couldn't wait. It didn't matter who we hurt because it was so terribly wrong for me to live this lie, not to mention that you couldn't give me up. It was impossible. Then all of a sudden, you tell me it's over?

Daniel: When I saw you earlier at the pub with little Allie and Johnny and Lucas, all of your together, you looked -- you looked very happy. And obviously, Allie, she's just -- she's attached to you. So, I thought, no. No, I am not gonna do that. I am not gonna destroy that.

Chloe: Right. When I listened to your message, there was actually a part of me that was really relieved. Then when I listened to it again... I wanted to kill you.

Daniel: Well, that's honest.

Chloe: Then I ran into Kate, and she said that you seemed sad and alone.

Daniel: Well, no, I'm not. That's her perception.

Chloe: Was she wrong?

Daniel: Why, does it matter?

Chloe: No, I-it doesn't matter. It's totally irrelevant.

Daniel: Right. Well, I-I meant it. I can't do this. I'm not gonna do it, and I need you to get out. I want you to leave.

Chloe: You're a liar! You don't want me to leave, and you know that. You knew that that message would torture me. You knew that if you told me you didn't want me anymore and if you pretended to reject me that I would finally realize what you've known all along, that there's no way in hell that we can end this.

Hope: What is it?

Bo: It's just, um...

Hope: What?

Bo: This Marino murder, it's --

Hope: What about it? Oh, you're not still thinking about taking me off the case.

Bo: Uh, no.

Hope: I don't even get what that was about.

Bo: I explained.

Hope: Mm-hmm. You wanted me home to make you dinner, not that I can cook.

Bo: Yeah. Right. I was -- I was being a jerk, like you said, you know. I'm over it now.

Hope: Maybe. But you're still not over whatever was bothering you in the first place. You said you had a vision, but you wouldn't tell me what it was.

Bo: 'Cause I really didn't know what it was. It was all just, you know, jumbled up, these strange images.

Hope: Of? People?

Bo: You know, I... there's really nothing to talk about, so let's forget it, okay?

Hope: Hey, Steve.

Steve: Hey, guys.

Bo: Sit down. Appreciate you coming by.

Hope: Yeah, thanks. So, what do you got?

Steve: Let's see if you like this one. I think I might have a lead on Marino's killer.

Maggie: Sir. Sir. Can you hear me? Sir?

E.J.: Father? Father, can you hear me all right? Okay. Uh, I'm just leaving Rome. I think everything went very well. In fact, if my instincts are correct, I'd say -- I'd say that we have a wonderfully bright future ahead of us in Italy. Well, they were anxious to schedule something as soon as possible, but I told them not until after Nicole has the baby. I'm not missing that.

Sister Theresa: Excuse me. Would you be so kind as to tell me where the doctor is?

Dr. Baker: [Exhales]

Nicole: So, what made you want to be a doctor? Is it that big, compassionate heart of yours?

Dr. Baker: Get the hell out of here.

Nicole: Or is it your love for children? I bet that's what it is. I bet you couldn't wait to deliver babies in some ratty clinic in the middle of nowhere and then figure out how you can sell them to the highest bidder.

Dr. Baker: I want you to leave now.

Nicole: Okay, fine, I'll leave. And I'll go right to the cops and tell them about this racket you're running.

Dr. Baker: Great. I'll call your fiancé and tell him what a crazy little bitch you are. Hell, I'll tell the whole world.

Nicole: I don't expect you to understand why I've done what I've done, but I do expect you to have some compassion and some sympathy. My baby was a part of me for five months, and those were the happiest months of my life. And then she was taken from me just like that.

Dr. Baker: Nicole, you're not the first woman to have a miscarriage.

Nicole: But I can't get pregnant again, remember? And my desire to be a mother didn't die when my baby died. In fact, it's just the opposite. It made me want a baby even more.

Dr. Baker: You do have a baby, all right? And you are a mother of a beautiful baby girl.

Nicole: I know. And I'm grateful to Mia for making this happen, but... but then there's this little girl, E.J.'s baby. And in my heart, I know that she is the one that I'm supposed to have. And I will, no matter what it takes.

Dr. Baker: She's not yours, all right? She's Colleen's.

Nicole: Sami's.

Dr. Baker: Whatever. She's not yours. You can't just switch these babies and not have somebody find out. How can you possibly expect to pull this off?

Daniel: Predictable.

Chloe: What is?

Daniel: Well, this whole time I was trying to persuade you that you and I belong together somehow. I begged you to tell Lucas. I was almost certain that we were gonna be something. But then all of a sudden, I change my mind --

Chloe: And why the hell have you changed your mind?

Daniel: No, I think I just told you.

Chloe: Why, because you saw me and Lucas and Allie together through the pub window? What, because I was trying to push you out of my mind for a moment by having a little bit of fun?

Daniel: Well, it looked like you succeeded.

Chloe: Succeeded?

Daniel: In pushing me right out of your mind. Did a great job with that.

Chloe: Oh. Wh-- so that's what this is all about? What, because I had some fun without you, because I dared to seem happy without you gracing me with your presence?

Daniel: No, no, that's not what this is about.

Chloe: Then what else could it be?

Daniel: Listen to me. This is not about me or my ego or whatever the hell it is you're trying to insinuate here.

Chloe: It's got to be something.

Daniel: Yeah, it is. You're part of a family. Now, I'm not proud of the fact that I have fallen in love with someone's fiancée. But I would like to think that I am not totally devoid of decency here. So I will not break up any family. I won't. I won't do it.

Chloe: How noble.

Daniel: Yeah, well, I got to live with myself.

Chloe: Oh, okay, so it's all about you. It was bound to be at one point.

Daniel: You know, if that's the way you see it, fine.

Chloe: Kate says that you seem alone.

Daniel: Yeah, I don't want to talk about Kate.

Chloe: Well, what if she asks you to come back? What will you do?

Daniel: Did you just hear me? I don't want to talk about her.

Chloe: Fine! Then we'll talk about you and me.

Daniel: Chloe, we are not --

Chloe: You don't tell someone you love them one day and then dump them in a voicemail the next, okay, especially after you've made it so they can't think of anything else but you day and night, even in their dreams. I truly do hate you.

Steve: I did some digging with the help of a buddy of mine. Dude's a hard-core computer geek.

Hope: Hack job on the DiMeras?

Steve: Something like that. Wasn't exactly by the book.

Bo: Don't want to hear it.

Hope: So, cut to the chase. What do you got?

Steve: Well, I found something interesting that could connect DiMera to our killer.

You can't go in there.

Sister Theresa: Colleen is very concerned about her child. We've been waiting a long time for a report.

I'm sorry, but the doctor's dealing with an emergency right now.

Sister Theresa: Do you have any updates at all? This lack of information is making the poor girl frantic.

As soon as we get word, she'll be the first to know.

Sister Theresa: Of course. Thank you.

Nicole: Did Sami ever hold her baby? Did she ever get a good look at it?

Dr. Baker: What's that got to do with anything we're talking about?

Nicole: She didn't, did she? So she's not gonna know the difference.

Dr. Baker: Of course she will. She spent nine months carrying the baby, Nicole.

Nicole: Newborns all look the same anyway. I mean, look at them. They're practically identical.

Dr. Baker: Great. And then she grows up and has none of Sami's characteristics.

Nicole: She's not gonna see her grow up. Sami is abandoning this baby. I told you that. She's giving it to the orphanage at the convent.

Dr. Baker: What if she has a change of heart?

Nicole: Why would she? She doesn't want this baby. She didn't even tell the father that she was pregnant.

Dr. Baker: That's getting to be a trend around here.

Nicole: Don't you dare compare me to her. I actually want this child.

Dr. Baker: [Exhales] How can you be so sure that she doesn't?

Nicole: Because... I overheard her confessing to the nun at the convent that she wished she was never pregnant and that she resents this baby and -- and all the problems that it's caused her. I mean, does that sound like a woman who deserves to be a mother? E.J. and I will give that baby a good life, better than Sami ever would. And I'm going to commit myself to her 100%, and I know E.J. Will, too. But you have to help me make that happen, Dr. Baker. What do you say?

Daniel: You're right. The voicemail -- I should have told you to your face that it was over.

Chloe: Why didn't you?

Daniel: Because I knew -- I knew it would end up... just like this.

Chloe: What? You knew I'd be angry?

Daniel: Yeah. I suppose you have every right.

Chloe: You suppose?

Daniel: Yeah.

Chloe: You profess your love for me, telling me you've been waiting for me your whole life, and then you leave me a voicemail saying that it's over. And you suppose that I have a right to be angry?!

Daniel: You have every right.

Chloe: It's more than angry, Daniel. I'm disgusted with myself for thinking that you were a man of your word, for cheating on the man that I'm gonna marry for some shallow bastard who doesn't even have the courage of his convictions!

Daniel: Oh, so you think now I'm the scum of the earth? This is good. Let it out.

Chloe: Good?

Daniel: Yeah, it's really good 'cause it's gonna make it easier for us to go our separate ways -- that much easier.

Steve: Have you guys ever heard of a company called Holtgren international?

Hope: Mnh-mnh.

Bo: No.

Steve: Well, the name popped up on DiMera's computer a couple of times, so I did a search on it. Turns out this corporation lists holdings in millions of dollars. Get this -- a healthy chunk of that is held by Capstar bank.

Hope: Capstar. There's a branch here in Salem.

Steve: Convenient, huh?

Bo: So, you think Stefano's using this corporation to bankroll his illegal activities.

Hope: Yeah, like employing hit men.

Bo: Good work, man.

Steve: Well, I do want to check into it a little bit more.

Bo: Yeah, and we should get ahold of Roman.

Hope: Yeah, I'm on it.

[Cellphone ringing]

Steve: Ooh. Kayla.

Kayla: Aah!

Maggie: Kayla, how is he?

Kayla: Um, he's still unconscious.

Maggie: I wish I knew how long he had been lying there when I found him.

Kayla: Well, I'm not sure, but it's a good thing you did. Otherwise, he may not have made it.

Maggie: Well, do you think he's gonna be all right?

Kayla: It's still too early to tell. He may need surgery.

Maggie: Oh, poor man. I wish I knew who he was.

Rafe: [Grunting]

Where is she?

No. You got to be kidding me. She's at the convent.

Rafe: [Straining] Come on. Come on. [Grunting]

Dr. Baker: I will not switch these babies. It's too damn risky.

Nicole: Why? How are you gonna get caught? No one's gonna know except for me, and I'm not gonna say anything.

Dr. Baker: The answer is no. Now, please leave so I can take this baby to her mother?

[Knock on door]

Sister Theresa: Excuse me. Dr. Baker.

Chloe: You son of a bitch.

Steve: Yeah, so, um, I'll see what else I can dig up on DiMera. I think we got a pretty good start, though. Bo?

Bo: Yeah, I agree.

Steve: What's going on, man?

Bo: Nothing. Want a drink?

Steve: Hey.

Bo: What?

Steve: Did you have another one of those visions?

Bo: Could we concentrate on this case, please?

Steve: Did you have another one?

Bo: Yes. Yes, I had -- yeah. And... I think it involved hope.

Steve: Was she shooting the gun again?

Bo: A gun was fired and... someone did get shot.

Steve: Who? Who got shot? Tell me.

Bo: It's Kayla?

Steve: What?

Bo: You know what, I'm not sure. This is -- this is all just in my crazy head.

Steve: You're not crazy, Bo. What are you talking about?

Bo: I wish I was as sure of that as you are. It's just -- I shouldn't have said anything. It's --

Steve: Listen to me. Until you're sure of what these visions mean, we're gonna keep those women apart.

Bo: Yeah.

Hope: No, I'll make sure.

E.J.: I'm so sorry that I let you down. You know, we were supposed to have a nice, romantic weekend together, and I get talked off into going on some pointless business trip to nowhere.

Nicole: This is not your fault. What could you do?

E.J.: I could have said no.

Nicole: To your father?

E.J.: To my father. To anybody. Darling, you and this child are my number-one priority, the most important thing in my life. And I give you my word. I am never going to leave you again. I promise.

Sister Theresa: I'm terribly sorry to bother you, doctor, but Colleen is very worried about her baby. And, please, can't you give us an update?

Dr. Baker: We're doing everything we can. Tell her I'll be with her shortly.

Sister Theresa: But that's all you can tell me?

Dr. Baker: That's all I can tell you right now. We're doing everything -- now do you see why we can't switch these babies? Somebody's gonna find out.

Nicole: Actually, I see why now we have no choice but to switch these babies. And you should, too. Please, Dr. Baker, you have to help me.

Hope: I will. Thanks, Roman.

Bo: What did he have to say?

Hope: He thinks we should track the money from the killer's end -- check the security cameras at Capstar and see if our guy's made any withdrawals.

Bo: Maybe one of the tellers can I.D. The killer.

Hope: Mm-hmm. And with any luck, his account will lead us to Stefano's.

Bo: Let's get lucky.

Steve: Yeah. I'll keep checking the DiMera angle.

Bo: I'm thinking we're gonna wrap this case up pretty quick, thanks to you.

Steve: I'm gonna take off. I'll talk to you guys later.

Hope: Hey, I'll walk out with you.

Bo: Where are you going?

Hope: I thought I told you, to go see Kay.

Bo: Uh, no.

Hope: What? That's a bad idea.

Maggie: Do you know what happened to him?

Kayla: Well, it was probably some kind of mugging. As soon as the police get here, we'll file a report. But, you know, Maggie, you really shouldn't be walking alone at night, especially down at the pier.

Maggie: [Chuckles] Well, believe me, I won't anymore. But I will feel a whole lot safer when they find whoever did this.

Rafe: [Grunting] Damn it. Damn it!

[Breathing heavily]

Sami: What did he say? What did the doctor say?

Sister Theresa: The doctor's doing everything he can, dear.

Sami: That's it? That's all he told you?

Sister Theresa: I'm afraid so.

Sami: I have to go. I have to go see her. I have to hold her. I have to make sure she's --

Sister Theresa: Sami, what your baby needs now is for her mother to be strong, to have faith.

Sami: I have to do something.

Sister Theresa: All we can do now is pray.

Nicole: Hi, this is Nicole. Leave me a message.

E.J.: Hey, sweetheart. It's me. Um, meeting went wonderfully. Actually, I'm gonna be home a lot sooner than I thought. I'll be winging my way back shortly. Um... guess I'll give you a call when I land. Okay. I miss you. Bye.

Nicole: You are in this just as deep as I am, and that lie just proved it.

Dr. Baker: I did not lie to that nun, okay? I was just protecting myself, protecting you.

Nicole: Exactly, because we're in this together.

Dr. Baker: No, we are not.

Nicole: Then why didn't you come clean out there? You had a chance to tell the truth, and you didn't.

Dr. Baker: She caught me off guard, okay? I didn't expect her to come barging in here.

Nicole: Well, she did, and now it's too late to turn back.

Dr. Baker: Okay, listen, I'm done with you. This whole blackmail charade, it's over.

Nicole: Really?

Dr. Baker: Yeah.

Nicole: On the contrary. This is just the beginning for you, doc.

Dr. Baker: Is that a threat?

Nicole: Yeah, it is. 'Cause I have no qualms about going to the police or the medical board and telling them about your little baby brokerage thing you've got going on.

Dr. Baker: You'd just be implicating yourself.

Nicole: And I'm sure they'd love to hear how you lied to my fiancé, hmm? You went along with this little game about me being pregnant and then putting me in touch with Mia.

Dr. Baker: You were just as guilty as I am.

Nicole: Oh, no. I'm -- I'm an innocent victim, just like all the other women you took advantage of, only my license isn't on the line.

Dr. Baker: I go down, you're going down with me.

Nicole: Do you really want to go to prison? Do you really want to spend the rest of your life behind bars? Because that's where you're gonna end up if you don't cooperate. The thing is, doc... I've got nothing to lose. But you do. So, ask yourself this question. Is it worth it?

Dr. Baker: How the hell are you gonna pull this off?

Nicole: Well, let's take a look at my list of accomplishments, shall we? I convinced everyone that I was still pregnant. I found a birth mother. I-I kept E.J. Out of the way. I-I delivered a baby, for crying out loud! Doesn't that prove what I'm capable of?

Dr. Baker: What about 5 years from now, 10 years from now? You gonna be able to handle the guilt that's gonna follow you the rest of your life?

Nicole: Yes. I will be able to handle it because I will have everything that I ever wanted. Dr. Baker, we have an opportunity here to put this baby -- Sami's little girl -- into a house with her biological father and loving mother. Or is the other alternative better, is it to give her to a couple that has no connection to her? Please, for once, I just want something to go my way. Let me have that beautiful baby girl.

Hope: Why shouldn't I see Kayla?

Bo: I didn't want you to leave so soon. I enjoy your company.

Steve: Oh, he's just messing with you. You know that page I got earlier from Kayla? She was called to the hospital, some kind of emergency.

Hope: Hmm. All right. I guess we'll get together some other time.

Steve: I'll have her call you.

Hope: Thanks.

Steve: See you two later.

Hope: Bye, Steve.

Bo: Thanks for your help.

Steve: Sure thing.

Bo: I'll, uh, get you some more tea.

Hope: I have a better idea. Why don't you tell me the truth?

Bo: What are you talking about?

Hope: What's the real reason you didn't want me to see Kayla?

Kayla: Oh, shoot. Must have left it in the car. You know, I can go out and look, and I'll call you back. All right, thanks, Shelby.

Maggie: Is something wrong?

Kayla: Oh, that was the sitter. She can't find Joe's stuffed dog and can't sleep without it.

Maggie: Oh, dear.

Kayla: Yeah, I'm gonna go out and look in the car. You know, Steve is working late tonight, so...

Maggie: You want me to drop it off?

Kayla: No, I couldn't ask you to do that.

Maggie: Nonsense. I'm on my way home. I insist.

Kayla: Oh, you are a lifesaver. Okay. Thank you.

Maggie: Please, you're busy saving lives here, you know?

Kayla: Yeah. Speaking of that, I should go check on our John doe.

Maggie: Would you keep me informed?

Kayla: Of course. And in case he needs surgery, I better get Dr. Jonas down here. All right, thanks.

Chloe: Still furious.

Daniel: Yeah. What about now?

Chloe: Nope. Still furious. Still mad.

Daniel: Yeah? Okay, not as mad at you. More mad at myself. I came here to give you hell.

Daniel: Well, that you did.

Chloe: I was gonna come here and tell you off and leave and then never see you again. I was so relieved that I was so disappointed in you, how flawed you were. Jerk.

[Both laugh]

[Cellphone ringing]

Daniel: Oh. Ugh, it's the hospital. I've got an emergency. I got to go. Um...

[Baby cooing]

Dr. Baker: Give me Mia's baby.

Nicole: [Voice breaking] Thank you. Thank you, Dr. Baker. You won't regret this. I promise. Hey. Come here. Yeah. Oh, there goes your little hat. You are gonna have a wonderful life. And... the nuns are gonna find you a loving home. I know they are. Goodbye, little girl. Can I, um... can I hold my daughter now?

[Baby crying]

Nicole: Ohh. Hey. You're moving around so much. You're moving around, hmm?

[Baby fussing] Hello.

Daniel: I am so sorry.

Chloe: No, it's okay. Come on.

Chloe: Oh, my purse.

Daniel: Okay, but just lock up when you go, okay?

Chloe: Okay.

Daniel: Get me out of here.

Hope: You're going to answer me. Why shouldn't I see Kayla?

Bo: Let's not make a big deal of this.

Hope: Brady, just answer me.

Bo: I... I enjoy your company. I did answer you. You know? And this case -- the Marino case has got me all rattled. I'd like to run some ideas by you, get your perspective. What, am I being selfish?

Hope: Yeah. But I guess you're allowed.

Bo: Okay, thank you. Abe is on my case to wrap this whole thing up, and Sami -- I'm sure she's going crazy being locked up in that safe house. That is why I didn't want you to go running off to see Kayla. We got to make this case our priority, focus on this, probably, you know, put our personal lives on hold for a while.

Hope: Wow. Give the guy a little power downtown, he takes it home with him.

Bo: You got a problem with that?

Hope: I'm worried about you.

Bo: Don't be. I'm good, as long as I got you by my side. [Moans]

Kayla: Ah. You're awake. You look so familiar. Have I seen you somewhere before?

E.J.: Hey, it's me again. Darling, I do wish you'd answer your phone, just every once in a while, please. Anyway, look, I hope you're not having too much fun without me. Plane's landed, so I'll be back soon, okay? Hope everything's all right. I love you. Bye.

Nicole: Hi, honey. I'm your mommy. Can you give me a little smile, huh? No? No, that's not it.

[Baby crying]

Nicole: That's okay. Oh, we're gonna work on that. Yes, we are. We are. We're gonna have plenty of time. I know. Shh. Shh. You will be very happy. I promise you. You will be. You will be. Yeah, you, me, and your daddy. Yes, we will. Yes, we will. You know something? [Crying] I've been waiting for this moment for so long. [Sobbing] Oh, gosh. Happy birthday... my beautiful little girl. Happy birthday.

[Baby cries]

Sister Theresa: We thank God for the great gift of Samantha's daughter, and we ask him to restore the child to health, if such be his holy will. This favor we ask of you through your love of all children and mothers. In the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Amen.

[Door opens]

Dr. Baker: Somebody wants to say hello.

Sami: How is she? Is she okay?

Dr. Baker: She's fine. She's perfectly healthy.

Sister Theresa: Oh, thank heavens. All she needs now is her mother. Would you like to hold your daughter?

Maggie: I saw you and Daniel kissing.

Chloe: Maggie, if you give me a chance to explain --

Maggie: You really can't.

Nicole: It's like Sami never existed -- just you, me, and daddy.

Sami: That's my baby?

Kayla: I swear I've seen your face somewhere before.
