Dr. Baker: Come on. Just one more push.
Sami: I can't. I can't.
Sister Theresa: Don't talk, honey. Concentrate. You've done this before.
Dr. Baker: I can see the baby's head.
Sister Theresa: You're doing great. It's almost over.
Dr. Baker: Come on, Colleen. Just one last push.
Dr. Baker: Yes! Oh, Colleen... it's -- it's a beautiful baby girl.
Sami: [Laughs] It's a girl. It's a girl. Let me see her. What's wrong? Doctor, why -- why isn't she crying? What's happening? What's wrong with my baby? What's happening?!
Voicemail: Saved messages.
Daniel: [Beep] Chloe, it's me. I don't think I can come between what you have with Lucas and his family. [Beep]
Chloe: He's right. He did the right thing.
Daniel: No. Mnh-mnh. No, you did the right thing.
[Knock on door]
Daniel: [Sighs] Chloe. Don't do it. [Sighs] Hey.
Kate: Hey. I'm dropping in on you again. I know I've said this before. I hate it when people do it to me, and now I've done it to you twice in one day, huh?
Daniel: It's, um, no, it's all right.
Kate: Um, you know, I really didn't like the way we ended things earlier.
Daniel: Look, I think we ended things nicely. We -- we decided to be friends.
Kate: I know. But I keep thinking about it, and, um... I'm getting the feeling that I was a bit hasty.
Daniel: Are you trying to tell me that you changed your mind?
Killer: So that's where she is -- the convent. All this time, right under my nose.
Rafe: You're dead wrong, man.
Killer: You're a lousy liar.
Rafe: All right. I told you --
Killer: I know she's there. I can see it all over your face. Now that I know where she is, I have no use for you. Tough luck...Agent H.
Sami: Why can't I see my baby?!
Nicole: [In the other room] Now what?
Dr. Baker: Let's get the cord cut.
Sami: Doctor, answer my question. Why isn't she crying? What is wrong with her? Let me see her. Let me see my little girl.
Sami: Please tell me what's going on with my baby. What is wrong with her? Say something!
Sister Theresa: Shh! Let the doctor do his job.
Sami: Answer me! What's going on with her?!
Sister Theresa: Shh!
Dr. Baker: Get the room ready. Colleen, it looks like your baby is gonna need just a little bit of extra medical attention. Now, don't panic. It's nothing I haven't seen before, okay?
Sami: What? No. Wait a second. No! No! You can't take my baby! I want to see her! Please, just let me see her!
Nicole: [In the other room] That scream -- is -- is that the baby?
Sami: Did you hear him? He sounded so scared. There's something really wrong with her.
Sister Theresa: No, no, there's not.
Sami: I know why he was scared. He's scared because she's gonna die.
Daniel: Because I know it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind, but one more -- or maybe I was hasty -- uh, I might start looking at this like you're just jerking my chain.
Kate: Now you're angry.
Daniel: I'm just not sure what else we have to talk about.
Kate: Okay. I didn't change my mind, but, um, I am getting the feeling that --
[Cell phone ringing]
Kate: Don't you have to get that?
Daniel: Yeah. I need to see who's calling. It's not an emergency. I don't need to take it.
Kate: I kind of wish it was.
Daniel: You like emergencies?
Kate: Well, I'd like something to interrupt this right now. You know, I never really did know what you were thinking. I don't know now. It's just that at the pub -- I guess that's why I'm here -- because we both said the right things, we both were very adult with each other, but I really have absolutely no idea how you feel about what happened.
Daniel: I feel like it's what you wanted.
Kate: Well, what about you? What did you want?
Daniel: I don't think like that. It's what is, so -- so I accept it.
Kate: Damn, you're hard to talk to.
Kate: Oh. Well, I guess that's just the kind of man you are. You don't go overboard about anything.
Chloe: Hey, uh, I wanted you to know that I got your message, and...I really think that we need to talk about what's going on with us.
Chloe: Oh, Maggie, you scared me.
Maggie: I didn't, uh, know that you were on the phone. I -- so, I heard what you were saying. Chloe... are you having problems with Lucas?
Sister Theresa: You just shouldn't jump to conclusions.
Sami: They took her away.
Sister Theresa: Okay. Let's think about that. We're here in a tiny clinic. I'm sure in a big hospital they have everything they need in the maternity ward, but this place is so small.
Sami: I didn't even get to see her. Did you see her? Was she breathing?
Sister Theresa: I didn't get a good look. The doctor was leaning over her.
Sami: This is all my fault.
Sister Theresa: No. No, it's not.
Sami: This is because of me -- because I didn't go to the doctor's. I didn't -- I didn't get regular checkups.
Sister Theresa: You're in witness protection, for heaven's sake.
Sami: No. I was in witness protection for my sake, because I wanted to hide the baby, and now -- and now she could be dying, and -- and it's all my fault.
Nicole: Baby. Shh! Shh! Shh! Shh! Oh. Dr. Baker, what's wrong? Why did you bring that baby in here?
Dr. Baker: Get out of here.
Nicole: Why isn't that baby crying?
Dr. Baker: I said, "get out."
Nicole: That is E.J.'s baby. You can't let it die. Don't tell me that baby's dead.
Kate: So, what am I interrupting? What were you going to do tonight?
Daniel: [Scoffs] I was thinking... of ordering a pizza.
Kate: No! Wow. Life in the fast lane.
Daniel: Would you like to sit down?
Kate: No, I wouldn't, but I would like to talk about what happened.
Daniel: Well, why don't you stay and eat some pizza? Tell me what you need to tell me. I'm sure it wouldn't be so serious with tomato sauce on your face.
Kate: You know, I do think I made the right choice by breaking things off.
Daniel: So you've said -- many times.
Kate: But I do miss you. And at the risk of sounding condescending, I don't like to think of you being alone.
Daniel: Well, I don't think it's condescending at all. Actually, it's quite nice.
Kate: But, you see, I have a family. I have Philip. I have Lucas. Hey, I even have Chloe. Who do you have?
Maggie: Well, Chloe, I am Lucas' aunt, and I love him very much, but I would like to be on your side, too. If you need to talk, I, uh, I will keep my mouth shut, and I won't think you're disloyal if you're honest. So, has Lucas done something to upset you?
Chloe: No. Remember when you warned me not to hurt Lucas?
Maggie: Oh. Wasn't that totally out of line on my part? Oh, it's no wonder you don't want to open up to me.
Chloe: No, I do. Actually, I have a confession to make.
Sami: This is what happens. This is what's wrong with me. I lie all the time. I-I lie, and I don't even think about it. I just do it.
Sister Theresa: This is not your fault.
Sami: It is my fault. I'm the one who lied to E.J. I'm the one who lied to my parents. I lied to everyone, and that's what got me here. I mean, who else has a baby under an assumed name?
Sister Theresa: Honey --
Sami: And if had -- if I had just been honest, I-I could have made sure that this baby got the right care and that it was well taken care of in a real hospital!
Sister Theresa: Sami --
Sami: God is doing this on purpose. God is punishing me. He's telling me I don't deserve this baby.
Sister Theresa: Oh, no, he's not. God doesn't say things like that, and he doesn't use innocent babies to punish people.
Sami: I'm so scared.
Sister Theresa: I know. I know.
Sami: I wish Rafe were here. He obviously doesn't know what happened. He would be back by now. He's been gone for way too long.
Sister Theresa: I've said this before. I think that young man knows how to handle himself.
Nicole: What's wrong?
Dr. Baker: I said, "get out of here." Damn it. Come on.
Nicole: Can I do something?
Dr. Baker: [Sighs] Pray. Somewhere else.
Nicole: [Sighs] Yeah, right. Like a prayer from me would work. We both know that I have nothing in the account. What about E.J.? And that's...his baby in there. And we -- and we both know he doesn't deserve this. He -- he doesn't know. Because of me, he doesn't know anything. You know, when I -- I lost my baby right here... I thought I couldn't bear it. You know, people say that like it's just words, but... I really thought my heart would break, that I couldn't physically take another breath. But you knew -- you knew that I would make it through this... because... stone hearts don't break. And I did this because if E.J. knew that his baby had died, he wouldn't make it. He wouldn't make it. He's not cold like me. It would kill him. Oh, God, that's his baby in there, so just, please, let it live and I will never, never ask another thing.
[Baby crying in distance]
Dr. Baker: You know, you gave me a hell of a scare. You know that? It's a good thing you're so good-looking.
Nicole: Is everything okay?
Dr. Baker: [Exhales deeply] Everything's fine.
Nicole: Oh. I owe you.
Daniel: A drink?
Kate: No, thank you. Against doctor's orders.
Daniel: Oh, he's a quack. You like anchovies?
Kate: Oh, I adore them.
Daniel: Ah, damn. We could have had such a wonderful life together.
Kate: You know, we can spar and we can bob and weave and -- I don't know. I guess I know you just about as well as anyone does. [Sighs] You would think after everything you've done for me that I could just be your friend and you could open up and tell me what's wrong.
Kate: Then something is wrong.
Daniel: You're not my friend. You're a prosecuting attorney on cross-examination. Now, can we just change the subject? 'Cause you are more than welcome to be here -- if we eat pizza, talk about books, movies -- but you're right -- you're absolutely right -- 'cause I hate -- and I do hate -- talking about me.
Kate: [Chuckles] You know what I used to think about you?
Daniel: Ah, I am gonna order a pizza and not listen to you.
Kate: I used to think that you were custom-made for having an affair, because you were passionate in the bedroom, but you were aloof and you were detached in public.
Daniel: Yeah, I'll hold.
Kate: You know, but maybe I was wrong about that, because maybe -- maybe you're not unhappy now.
Daniel: Thin crust or regular?
Kate: Maybe it's just that you're not detached, because something or someone has gotten to you.
Daniel: Damn it, Kate, will you just shut up?
Maggie: You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to. I just -- I just don't want you to feel alone.
Chloe: I shouldn't feel alone, should I?
Chloe: I have Lucas, and everyone in his family, including you, has been so nice to me.
Maggie: Well, it's not the same as having a mom or a sister to talk to.
Chloe: Yeah, well, my family is so different from yours. We always had a kind of "every man for himself" attitude. Maybe that's why Lucas is so soft about -- you know, this is my problem -- my fault.
Maggie: Well, I could argue that if I knew what we were talking about.
Maggie: Sami? He's soft on Sami?
Chloe: Well, in my head, I get that Sami will always be a part of Lucas' life and his heart. I mean, every time he looks at Allie, he must see Sami.
Maggie: And that bothers you?
Chloe: It shouldn't.
Maggie: That's not what I asked.
Chloe: You know what? No. I'm -- I'm not jealous of her. It's... [Exhales deeply] Well, I-I guess I'm scared that maybe Lucas and I moved ahead too quickly without him resolving things with her first.
Maggie: Have you talked to Lucas about this?
Chloe: No. Lucas and I don't talk about Sami very well. I don't know. I guess when it comes to people, I'm just so much more black and white than Lucas is. So every time he's worried about Sami or he cares about her or wants her to be safe, to me, it just seems like she could --
Maggie: Reel him back in.
Chloe: Well, she's never actually let him go. I mean, even before she left -- it's -- I'm sorry. It's not fair. Lucas hasn't even done anything wrong.
Maggie: But neither have you, right? What is it, Chloe, that's got you so upset?
Nicole: So that -- that baby's really gonna be okay?
Dr. Baker: She wasn't getting any oxygen, but, as you can hear, she is now.
Nicole: "She"? E.J. -- E.J. has a daughter. Let me see.
Dr. Baker: I'm gonna take her to her mother.
Nicole: No. No. Not until you and I have a little talk.
Chloe: Well, you must be so happy that you bumped into me. I'm so much fun to talk to.
Maggie: Well, it seems like you need someone to talk to.
Chloe: No, really. Lucas and I and the kids and Caroline -- we had such a wonderful time at dinner. We really did. And then Lucas went to take back Johnny and put Allie to bed, and...
Chloe: Well, um, my mother called, and we don't really do very well on the phone. She's always playing into my insecurities and second-guessing every decision I make.
Maggie: Like marrying Lucas?
Chloe: Not that there's anything wrong with him. Like maybe... I'm not ready for it.
Maggie: I see.
Chloe: And sometimes I think...
Maggie: That she's right?
Chloe: It's not that I don't love Lucas. I-I really do.
Maggie: Chloe, does Lucas know you're this worried about it?
Chloe: You can't tell Lucas, okay? It's not fair. I'm just in a mood. That's all.
Maggie: Chloe, look, I told you I'm not gonna tell anybody anything that you say, but maybe you should -- if you want this to work with Lucas.
Chloe: I do. You have to believe me. I-I do.
Maggie: I-I believe you. Look, I'm telling you this from firsthand experience. You start keeping secrets, and things are only gonna get worse.
Chloe: What if the truth hurts him?
Maggie: Look, if he can't deal with the fact that you are this worried about Sami and the effect that it will have on the two of you, then maybe he's not ready.
Maggie: Sami -- yes. Isn't that what we're talking about? No? Oh, it's not. It's something else, isn't it?
Daniel: The pizza will be here in 20 minutes. Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to lose it on you.
Kate: No. That's okay. We're friends, right?
Kate: I just wished that you could have told me what's -- what's bothering you.
Daniel: Okay. Okay. Here's what I have to say.
Daniel: I think things will work better if we simplify them. Now, that means I am the doctor and I will take care of you physically. You are the patient, and you will worry about making a full recovery -- not whether I am alone.
Kate: Okay. So we, um, compartmentalize things?
Daniel: Yes. And I think that will work best if we stick to a traditional doctor-patient relationship, and that means we meet by appointment, we meet at my office.
Kate: [Gasps] You're kicking me out, doctor. [Chuckles]
Daniel: [Sighs] Damn it. Listen. Can't you just give me a little alone time? You just dumped me.
Kate: Yes. Of course I can. You know, I guess I just -- I pushed you a little too hard, and I don't even know what about.
Daniel: Just -- just give me some time, all right? And don't make too big a deal out about what happened here tonight, okay?
Kate: Okay... because you have everything under control, don't you?
Daniel: That's what I tell myself.
Kate: You're lying to yourself. Enjoy your pizza. What the hell is going on with you, Daniel?
Sami: How long has it been?
Sister Theresa: Be careful.
Sami: No. I want to go see her. I want to find my little girl.
Sister Theresa: You're going to rip out your I.V.
Sami: I don't care. I want to find my -- my baby. What's wrong with my daughter? Why won't you let me see her?
Nurse Sue: You've got to stay calm. You can hemorrhage.
Sami: I don't care about that. I want to find my daughter. I want to see her.
Nurse Sue: I'm sorry. You can't get out of bed until the doctor says you're okay.
Sister Theresa: Honey, lie down. I'll go find out what's going on.
Sami: No. There's something really wrong here. There's something wrong with my daughter. They won't let me see her. That means that -- what -- what -- what the hell are you doing to me?
Nurse Sue: It's okay. You'll sleep now. You'll be fine.
Sami: I don't want to sleep. No, I-I don't want to. I-I want to see my -- I want to see my daughter. I just -- I have to -- I have to see -- see my daughter. I have to find... [Breathing heavily]
Dr. Baker: We can talk later.
Dr. Baker: The baby's mother hasn't even seen her. She's worried sick.
Nicole: I said it can wait. We have some things to sort out, to make sure everything's gonna be okay for me and for you.
Dr. Baker: It wouldn't be a conversation with you without the implied threat.
Nicole: I will protect your interests only as long as you protect mine.
Dr. Baker: What does this baby have to do with you? You mentioned E.J. before. He's your fiancÚ, right?
Nicole: He is. And he is the father of that baby.
Dr. Baker: And you know this how?
Nicole: Because he was in a relationship with the mother.
Dr. Baker: He knew Colleen?
Nicole: Her name's not Colleen. It's Samantha Brady.
Dr. Baker: So the nun's lying, too?
Nicole: Sami's really good at getting people to aid and abet.
Dr. Baker: What the hell is going on here?
Nicole: It's -- it's a really long story, but... it's gonna have a happy ending.
Maggie: You know what? I'm sorry. I think I'm badgering you.
Chloe: No. There is something wrong -- me.
Maggie: All right. Yes. Right. You're an opera-singing, bone-marrow-giving, child-friendly beauty. You're totally perfect, Chloe.
Chloe: [Scoffs] Can I be honest with you?
Maggie: I hope so.
Chloe: Well, it's really nice of you to say all those things, but it really doesn't help. You see, Lucas talks to me like that. He says I'm so wonderful and so great.
Maggie: It's 'cause he loves you.
Chloe: Yeah, well, maybe he loves who he thinks I am, not the real me.
Maggie: Mm. Well, yeah, what does he know, hmm?
Chloe: Well, not everything. He thinks I'm this perfect person, and I'm not.
Maggie: Well, here's where that leap of faith comes in. [Clears throat] You're smart enough to know that Lucas is walking on air right now. He's found you, and all is right with the world. You're totally perfect... and that can't last forever.
Chloe: No, it can't.
Maggie: You're right. See, I always felt that Shakespeare killed Romeo and Juliet because no one ever wanted to see them arguing over the mortgage payment. [Chuckles] I'm sorry. I make jokes because -- you're right. This pink cloud that is going on right now isn't gonna last. You marry the perfect man... and things happen. He hurts you so much, and you decide to hurt him back, and you think there's no hope. But leap of faith, Chloe. Leap of faith. 'Cause in time, you love him even more. You know what a jerk he can be, and...he knows you can be a bitch... but in time, you love each other even more. Don't borrow trouble, Chloe. You and Lucas are on the road to something amazing. Nobody is perfect. Don't try to be. Just trust that you and Lucas love each other enough to get through anything.
Dr. Baker: How did you do this? Did you plan all this?
Nicole: No. I didn't know about E.J. or her or the pregnancy. I mean, up until this week, I thought she was out of E.J.'s life, and I sure as hell didn't know about the pregnancy.
Dr. Baker: She just happened to pop up here to give birth?
Nicole: [Sighs] When I found out she was pregnant, I tracked her to the convent.
Dr. Baker: She joined the convent?
Nicole: No. She's in a witness protection program.
Dr. Baker: She's in a witness protection program and you found her? Whoever they're protecting her from must be an idiot.
Nicole: Look, I-I just think that there's a divine plan here at work.
Dr. Baker: A divine plan... that somehow brought her to this clinic where you're blackmailing the doctor?
Nicole: Okay, so a divine plan that I helped along a little bit -- you know, sort of guided Sami to have her baby here. But the bottom line is you will profit. And most important is that baby's gonna have a wonderful life, because E.J. is an amazing father, and he's rich and -- and loving.
Dr. Baker: What the -- who the hell is this?
Chloe: Thanks. [Door closes] Hey, Kate.
Chloe: Are you all right?
Kate: Yeah. I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?
Chloe: Oh, I was just worried because you left so suddenly.
Kate: Oh. Well, actually, I had to talk to someone -- Daniel.
Chloe: Oh. You went to Daniel?
Kate: Yeah, I did. There's, um, there's something bothering him, something wrong. He needs to talk to someone, but, uh, he's keeping me at arm's length, and I don't know why.
Chloe: We need to talk about what's g--
Daniel: No, we don't. It's over. [Exhales deeply]
Dr. Baker: So, you just happen to have a spare baby?
Nicole: No. This is Mia's baby. I told you she went into labor. She had a little girl, and I delivered her. She's gonna be okay, isn't she?
Dr. Baker: She seems fine.
Nicole: Oh. She's perfect. Now we have two perfect little girls. Yes, we do. Gosh, this is amazing. I mean, she's so tiny, and I can already see that she has E.J.'s eyes. E.J. has beautiful eyes. Yes. Yes.
Dr. Baker: Of all the clinics in the world, you had to walk into mine.
Nicole: Shh! Shh! Shh! Everything's gonna be perfect, honey. Just perfect. Yes, it is, you good girl.
Sami: Rafe! You're here!
Rafe: Of course I am. I told you you could trust me.
Sami: But -- but I had the baby, and they took it from me.
Rafe: Yeah. A little girl. She's fine.
Sami: Oh, she is?
Sami: Thank God. What about you? Are you all right?
Rafe: I'm great. I'm great. Sami, it's all over, okay? Everything is gonna be fine.
Sami: I was so scared.
Rafe: I know. You don't have to be scared anymore. Listen, I'm not gonna let anything happen to you or the baby, okay?
Sami: I'm so glad you're here. Don't ever leave me.
Sister Theresa: I'm right here.
Sami: [Exhales deeply]
Sister Theresa: I'll be here as long as you need me.
Daniel: What are you doing here? Didn't you get my message?
Chloe: I did.
Daniel: I meant what I said, Chloe. It's over. We can't be together.
Chloe: I know. That's why I'm here.
Sister Theresa: Honey, try to get some more sleep.
Sami: I can't, not till I find out what is wrong with my daughter.
Sister Theresa: Remember what the nurse said -- you have to stay in bed.
Sami: All right. I will stay here if you go. Please -- please go find out what is wrong with my little girl.
Dr. Baker: Have you changed your mind about Mia's baby?
Nicole: I promised Mia that her baby would be well taken care of, and I'm gonna keep that promise.
Nicole: Shh! It's okay, honey.
Dr. Baker: So we go through with things as planned?
Nicole: Not exactly. E.J. deserves to raise his child.
Dr. Baker: You're gonna tell him you had twins?
Nicole: No. It's okay. It's okay. Shh!
Dr. Baker: So, your promise to Mia?
Nicole: Look, I don't think much of Sami Brady, but she is a responsible mother. And if she were going to leave her baby in a convent orphanage -- okay, okay. Come here. Come here. Shh! Now, listen. She would make sure that her baby was well taken care of and in a good home, okay? So these two babies are gonna live happy, healthy lives. Yes, they are.
Dr. Baker: But only one of them will live it with you and E.J., right?
Nicole: [Sniffles] We're gonna raise E.J.'s child, and we are gonna be very happy. [Crying continues] Okay. No, it's okay. Shh! Good girl.
Daniel: This is good.
Daniel: Yeah, it's really good, because it's gonna make it easier for us to go our separate ways.
Steve: I think I might have a lead on Marino's killer.
Sister Theresa: You mustn't get out of bed.
Sami: I have to find out what's wrong with my child.
