Melanie: Max. Unfreakin' believable.

Max: What?

Melanie: Your ex out there swapping spit with Philip.

Max: [Chuckles]

[Door closes]

Brady: Marlena, thanks for meeting me.

Marlena: I love seeing you, and I can guess why you wanted to see me.

Brady: I know you had some concerns about why Dad agreed to go through with the hypnosis, so I did a little digging to see what I could find out for myself.

Marlena: Gee, I wish you hadn't done that.

Brady: I think that you're gonna be glad I did. Look, my Dad may not have much interest in his old life, but there is one thing from his past that means the world to him.

Marlena: What?

Brady: Do you really need to ask?

John: I don't understand any of this. Last night, you told me I should keep coming here, that I shouldn't give up.

Charlotte: That was before I watched the videotape of our session.

John: Doesn't make any sense. First you tell me if I try hypnosis, that's the only way I'm gonna remember something. Now you're just writing me off.

Charlotte: John, I know that you took a giant leap of faith.

John: You're damn right I did.

Charlotte: That's why I'm trying to say that I'm just trying to be honest with you.

John: Well, while we're going for a little honestly here, doctor, let me ask you something. In your professional opinion, what are my odds of ever remembering who I was?

Charlotte: I'm sorry, John. Essentially zero.

E.J.: Give me a little credit here, would you?

Stefano: Oh, dear. [Chuckles] Have I short-changed you again, Elvis, huh? Salud.

E.J.: Cheers. I wasn't just trying to gain brownie points with the Horton's by representing Nick.

Stefano: No, you said yourself that you were, uh -- how did you put it? -- Learning how to play it.

E.J.: I was being ironic. You remember irony, don't you?

Stefano: Ah, yes. Of course. Irony, yes. So you were doing it out of the goodness of your heart.

E.J.: You Americans may have a disdain for lawyers, but I've always found it to be a somewhat rewarding process...in more ways than one.

Stefano: Enlighten me.

E.J.: I've come across a certain tidbit of information. Something that I think would be of great interest to you...as well to the DiMera Legacy.

Nicole: No. Please. Please, Mia, listen to me. You -- you are my only hope, and if you say no, my life is over and I mean that. Feel -- feel your baby inside of you kicking, moving around. I had that, too, and I lost it. All I'm asking...is that you give me a chance at the happiness I lost. Give me your baby. Please say yes. Give me back my happiness.

Mia: I don't get it. If losing your baby was so sad, if it made you so unhappy that you're, like, out of your mind, why are you telling me to give up mine?

Nicole: Mia, that -- that is not what I'm trying to do.

Mia: I'm sorry. I just don't see how I'm supposed to go through with this.

Nicole: You cannot compare our situations. My baby died. She didn't have a chance. But your baby does. Your child deserves a good life.

Mia: I don't know.

Nicole: You don't -- but what about your life, your dreams? Moving to Japan, becoming a dancer? How do you expect to do that when you're tied down to a child? Mia, you -- you're so young and beautiful. You have your whole life ahead of you.

Mia: This isn't about me. This is about my baby.

Nicole: I'm sorry. I'm sorry if you feel like I'm pressuring you. This is a huge decision. I know. You want to do the right thing, and I think you know what that is.

Mia: I know that you could give my child the life that I never could. But --

Nicole: But what? What? What are you so worried about?

Mia: Your fiancé©. That whole thing just seems really sketching to me.

Nicole: I told you, Mia.

Mia: I know what you said. But I don't understand why you're so afraid to tell him about your miscarriage. If you're so afraid of him, maybe I should be, too.

John: So, because this one session was a bust, there isn't anything I can do to regain my memories. Is that what you're telling me?

Charlotte: John, as I explained when we started the hypnotherapy, this is typically a treatment of last resort. Your case is very unusual. It's complicated.

John: Meaning that I'm a lost cause.

Charlotte: No, John, no.

John: Well, then...screw it.

Charlotte: John, I know it's difficult to be positive like this, but I can assure you that s--

[Door closes]

Charlotte: I can help you, John. Just...not in the way you think.

Brady: He wants you back, Marlena. He wants to find himself again for you, you alone.

Marlena: No, I-I'm sure there are other reasons.

Brady: Not from what he told me. As a matter of fact, he admitted to me that he doesn't feel a connection to anything or anyone else, including his kids.

Marlena: Oh, honey, no, listen to me. I know as soon as he becomes himself again, as you say, I know that's all going to change.

Brady: I don't see it. It's okay. I've come to terms with it. I-I look at this guy John, and I don't see my Dad anymore. It's like he's not there. So I think he's lost to me forever.

Nicole: I was in a really -- I was in a really bad place, and my first instinct was to lie, and then one -- one lie became another and then another. Look, I guess if I had the chance to do things differently, I would, but I can't, Mia. I can't.

Mia: So this guy, your fiancé©, um, what did you say his name was?

Nicole: E.J. He is so smart and -- and sensitive and caring. He's a perfect gentleman, and he is gonna be the best dad in the whole world, and I know that. I know that because I have seen him with his son.

Mia: He already has a kid?

Nicole: Johnny. From a previous marriage. And your little baby is gonna have an older brother. And they're gonna be close enough in age, they'll be able to play together.

Mia: A big brother, huh?

Nicole: Yeah, he's a real sweetheart. And E.J. -- E.J. is so good with him. He's so -- he's so nurturing, and, you know, there are just some guys who are born into this world to be dads, you know? And your baby is gonna be so lucky to have a dad like E.J.

E.J.: This, uh, information that I've become privy to could help restore the DiMeras' reputation worldwide.

Stefano: Intriguing.

E.J.: As well as providing a substantial income for generations to come.

Stefano: Oh. I'm liking this more and more.

E.J.: It's all about resting one piece of property from its current owner.

Stefano: And who would that be?

E.J.: Well, there's the caveat. Victor Kiriakis.

Stefano: Oh, no, my son. That [Chuckles] that is the challenge.

E.J.: Oh, well. Father, as you've always taught me, when it comes to family, one does what one must.

Stefano: Salud.

Melanie: Well, look who, uh, finally came up for air.

Stephanie: Chelse, you made it.

Philip: Max tell you the good news?

Chelsea: Yeah, I just feel bad that I couldn't have been here sooner.

Melanie: Yeah, I'm sure he was wondering where you were.

Philip: W-we should probably head out.

Melanie: The meeting you rescheduled, right? See you later.

Chelsea: Well, wait a second. One of our best friends just gets sent to jail today and you guys are carrying on like it's any other day?

Melanie: This coming from the girl who just showed up.

Chelsea: Can you just shut the hell up for one second, Melanie?

Melanie: What do you want us to do, Chelsea? Go into mourning? Maybe go home and change into all black?

Chelsea: No, I want you to pretend like you actually care.

Max: Chelse.

Chelsea: It's not like Nick is going away to Chicago for the weekend, okay? He's being sent to jail for a long time.

Max: Okay, okay, okay.

Chelsea: There's just a lot that I wanted to say.

Philip: Let's get going.

Chelsea: Nick.

Nick: I didn't think I'd see you again.

Chelsea: How could you think that? I just -- I was at the hospital and I couldn't get here. I'm so sorry.

Nick: I'm just glad you're here now.

Mia: I don't know. Handing over my baby without ever meeting the guy who's gonna be its father? I should at least be able to see where my kid's gonna live.

Nicole: [Sighs] I don't know.

Mia: If you were gonna give your baby away to a stranger... wouldn't you at least want to know what their life was gonna be like? So that way, you can imagine him or her happy when you -- when you feel, like, really lonely. When you wish that you... it's not like I'm asking that much.

Nicole: I'll see what I can do.

E.J.: Who was that at the door? Wow.

Stefano: Ha ha ha. Eh? Huh? Is this something? I had it -- I had it custom-made, right? Hand-crafted in Italy.

E.J.: This is amazing.

Stefano: Isn't it beautiful?

E.J.: It's fantastic. None of that American nonsense. What will the neighbors think?

Stefano: [Chuckles]

E.J.: Who's this?

Stefano: And that, my dear, is a collector's item. I got one for both Giovanni and little Theodore.

E.J.: Well, let's hope that your new grandchild treats this a little better than Johnny. Otherwise, this fellow here is gonna be missing eyes and ears rather soon.

Stefano: [Laughs]

[Cellphone ringing]

E.J.: Will you excuse me for one second? Hey, sweetheart.

Nicole: Hey, hon. Whatcha doing?

E.J.: I am admiring the new crib that our baby's grandfather just had delivered.

Nicole: Oh. So that means you're home.

E.J.: Yes, I'm home. Why? Is that a problem?

Marlena: What are you thinking?

Brady: Part of me is wondering if maybe I deserve this.

Marlena: Why would you say such a stupid thing?

Brady: I've been gone for so long. You know, I wasn't here for holidays. I wasn't here for weddings.

Marlena: You had a life. We understood that.

Brady: But if I would have been here more often, if I would have spent more -- [Door closes]

Marlena: John.

Brady: Dad.

John: Mind if I join you?

Marlena: Not at all.

John: I need a second opinion, Doc.

Nick: I asked Uncle Mickey to deliver a package to you. It's a copy of my patent and the blueprints for the fuel project.

Chelsea: I thought you signed those over to Melanie.

Nick: I did, but it's a lot of responsibility for one person with me out of the loop.

Max: You don't trust my sister?

Nick: No, I do, really, but there are a lot of people out there I don't trust and a lot of people who are gonna want in on this, and...I just want to keep it safe.

Max: Okay. What do you want us to do?

Nick: Just promise me you'll make sure it stays out of the wrong hands.

Max: Yeah.

Chelsea: Promise.

E.J.: Nicole.

Nicole: Of course it's -- it's not a problem. I'm glad that you're home. I know that Mary had the day off, and I thought maybe we could spend some time alone.

E.J.: Oh. Have a little, uh, afternoon delight.

Nicole: No. What? I mean, I don't -- I don't think Dr. Baker would go for that.

E.J.: Oh. All right, I just, um -- you know, I thought he said we didn't have to worry or something.

Nicole: Well, he didn't say that.

E.J.: Okay. Um...well, as it is, I've got to get going. Father needs me for a meeting.

Nicole: A meeting? Oh. Oh, that's too bad.

Marlena: John.

John: What?

Marlena: You just called me Doc.

John: As in doctor because I have a medical question.

Marlena: Of course.

Brady: Why don't I let you two talk?

Marlena: You seem -- I don't know -- you seem kind of upset.

John: Confused. I just saw Dr. Taylor earlier, and she did this 180. Said hypnosis isn't gonna work for me. She doesn't think she can do anything to help me regain my memory, so she's just gonna pack it in.

Marlena: What?

John: Yeah. I don't know what to think anymore, so...do you have any suggestions?

Marlena: Yes, I do.

Philip: Your first big meeting.

Melanie: I know, and I didn't even fall asleep once.

Philip: It wasn't as boring as you expected?

Melanie: Actually, no. [Chucking] I was kind of into it.

Philip: Yeah, right.

Melanie: No, I mean it. I mean, who knew that being in a roomful of suits could be so much fun, but my favorite part was when we first walked in and that guy pulled me aside. [Clears throat] "Excuse me, ma'am, I'd like coffee, decaf, three sugars."

Philip: I am so sorry about that.

Melanie: That's okay. It's kind of funny to see their faces when they found out who I really was.

Philip: Oh, they were surprised. That's for sure. You know, and so was I.

Melanie: Yeah?

Philip: Yeah, I mean, not just about the meeting. What you did earlier today for Nick. I know I already told you that, but...it was a side of you I haven't seen before, and I really...

Melanie: You really...

Philip: I like that person.

Melanie: Wow. Uh, that means a lot coming from you.

E.J.: Father, we need to move quickly on this, all right?

Stefano: Yeah. Now, you know, Elvis, I was afraid you might have a little compunction about this course of action, I mean, now that you are settling down and you're gonna get married.

E.J.: Father, that's the reason I'm doing this -- for Nicole and our child.

Mia: Wow, it feels totally real.

Nicole: [Chuckling] I know.

Mia: So, your fiancé's not suspicious?

Nicole: Well, I can be pretty persuasive, Mia. Oh, and I am so sick of these maternity clothes. Nothing fits right.

Mia: What if he finds out? What happens to my baby?

Nicole: He is not gonna find out.

Mia: You can't promise that.

Nicole: [Sighs] I can promise that I will not let your child down. And I will always be there no matter what. And I mean that with all my heart.

Marlena: I'm really sorry.

John: Not complaining. Just reminds me of what I'm fighting for.

Marlena: John...is Dr. Ta--

John: She what?

Marlena: Is she sure the hypnosis didn't work?

John: Well, I'm pretty sure that's what zero chance of getting my memory back means.

Marlena: Oh, my gosh.

John: Still having doubts about the doctor?

Marlena: When I set you up to see a psychiatrist, I thought it was really important that you see someone who was an impartial third party. The more I think about it... nobody knows you as well as I do. I just -- I think I should stay closer. John. Does that mean anything to you?

John: No.

Marlena: It was nine years ago. We were, um -- we were about to head for New Orleans. It was New Year's.

Marlena: Oh, John. How beautiful. Bells for my charm bracelet?

John: What do they make you think of?

Marlena: Uh...well, Belle, of course, and -- oh, ringing in the New Year with the man I love most in the world.

Marlena: John... are you remembering something?

John: Nothing. Sorry.

Marlena: It's all right.

John: It's frustrating. Now what?

Marlena: We keep trying. I've got a feeling --

John: Go on.

Marlena: I don't want to get your hopes up. I don't want to get my hopes up. I just think we are so close.

John: To a breakthrough? And suppose I don't have this breakthrough. Will you accept me for the man that I am now? [Door closes]

Charlotte: Marlena.

Marlena: Hello, Charlotte.

Charlotte: Can I steal John for a moment?

Marlena: Of course. Talk to you later.

Mia: Wow, when you said you had money, I was thinking one of the, like, mansions by the lake. Not the Taj Mahal.

Nicole: Where are my keys?

Mia: I've never even seen a place like this, except on TV. My God, you guys must have like millions.

Nicole: Yeah. Uh, we have money. It's great to have it, but...

Mia: But what? Like you're gonna tell me where's some huge downside to being rich?

Nicole: No, that's not what I'm saying. But there's a lot more to life than that. Much more.

Mia: Like what?

Nicole: Mia, I can only give you so much. I hope you know that.

Melanie: Yay, us.

Philip: Yay.

Melanie: We should go out and celebrate for real some time.

Philip: We should. We should.

Stephanie: So the meeting went well?

Melanie: Yeah. Philip killed them. He was brilliant and beyond.

Philip: She means I didn't put my foot in my mouth for a change.

Melanie: Oh, look at you. You're so cute when you're embarrassed. [Giggles]

Philip: Excuse us. Hey. Is everything okay?

Stephanie: Yeah, yeah. I'm just sad about Nick. That's all. I mean, who isn't?

Philip: Yeah. Yeah, but he wouldn't want us feeling sorry for him. That's the last thing he'd want.

Stephanie: You're right.

Philip: So, how about we stop thinking about Nick and start thinking about the surprise I'm gonna give you?

Stephanie: What are you talking about? What surprise?

Philip: I guess it wouldn't hurt to let you in on it.

Stephanie: I'm a good pretender. Oh, Philip, I never in a million years would have guessed this.

Philip: Stop it. No, that's -- that's a very nice try, but no.

Stephanie: Come on, please, a hint, something.

Philip: Nope. I'm gonna torture you with this.

Stephanie: Mm.

Melanie: Speaking of torture... hey, you guys, I think I'm gonna bail, if that's okay. I don't really feel very good.

Philip: Really?

Melanie: Yeah. I get these headaches sometimes, so I think I'm just gonna go take a few aspirin and sit alone for a while.

Philip: Okay.

Melanie: Unless you need me.

Philip: No. No, I-I think we got it. You take care. Hey, great job today.

Melanie: Yeah. Uh, definitely. So I will, uh, see you tomorrow.

Philip: You got it. Hey, again, great job.

Nick: Max, um...do you mind if I talk to Chelsea alone for just a sec?

Max: Yeah, sure. Um, take care, all right?

Chelsea: Hey.

Nick: Hey.

Chelsea: So, two to five's not so bad. And it might only be 18 months, right?

Nick: Maybe. Chelsea, the time we spent together, I wouldn't trade it for anything. You're a great person. And I know that these last two months I hurt you and that I wasn't there for you.

Chelsea: You don't have to apologize, okay? I know why you weren't there. I know why you couldn't talk to me. Melanie, the pills -- it was all... it wasn't you. But, hey, now you're gonna go get help and that sweet, smart, funny person that I knew, he'll be back.

Nick: You think you might be able to come visit me? I mean, if you have time?

Chelsea: If I have time? Don't you realize how important you are to me? How important you are to a lot of people?

Nick: I want you to go on with your life.

Chelsea: Well, part of going on with my life is thinking about you. Nick, I have regrets, too. I guess it's like that song "you don't know what you have until it's gone."

Nick: I want you to be happy, Chelsea.

Chelsea: And I want you to get better... and to know...that you'll always be in my heart.

Jailer: Mr. Fallon.

Mia: What do you mean there's only so much you can give me? What, do you think I'm gonna use this kid as a lottery ticket?

Nicole: I didn't say that.

Mia: No, I know what's going through your mind, but you can relax, okay?

Nicole: I can?

Mia: To be honest, it creeps me out that I'm getting paid to sell my baby. Look, all I want is enough to cover the medical bills and travel expenses, enough to be comfortable.

Nicole: Good. Then we understand each other. Come on. Ah. Anyone home?

E.J.: Glad I found you.

Melanie: Me?

E.J.: You.

Melanie: Okay. Uh, why are we looking for me?

E.J.: Well, why don't you ask me to join you and I'll tell you?

Charlotte: Sorry for the interruption.

John: No worries.

Charlotte: It seemed like you and Marlena were in a very intense conversation.

John: I was just hoping that maybe she could help me remember some things.

Charlotte: Oh. I guess that's why she seemed so resentful towards me.

John: You're sounding a little resentful yourself, Dr. Taylor.

Charlotte: Marlena is not your psychiatrist. You shouldn't be going behind my back and discussing your case with another doctor. She should know better than to encourage that.

John: I didn't know it was that big of a deal.

Charlotte: I-I just don't want a second opinion to compromise any progress that we could have had.

John: Well, you don't have to worry about that, because Blondie couldn't help me anyway.

Charlotte: That's too bad. I think I might have an idea.

Marlena: You know, I have had a problem with her from the beginning. It's her behavior, her demeanor.

Brady: "Her demeanor"?

Marlena: She has been oddly hostile towards me. Sometimes even downright rude.

Brady: Really? I thought it was you that recommended her.

Marlena: Well, it was. No, actually, I recommended her father. And her behavior with me is a matter of complete indifference. However, it is her defeatist attitude towards John that bothers me. They've had one hypnotherapy session, and she's determined that he is beyond help.

Brady: Well, that's crazy. I mean, how can she know that?

Marlena: She can't. Brady, I was sitting, talking to him. I-I just have a sense that maybe that hypnotherapy is beginning to work.

Brady: I thought you said that he hasn't remembered anything.

Marlena: Yeah. Well, maybe it's -- maybe it's wishful thinking after all. My hands are tied. I'm not his wife. I'm not his therapist. I am ethically bound to step back and let them make their own decisions. Mnh. I should go.

Brady: Hang in there, please.

Marlena: Oh, baby. Thanks.

Brady: Your hands may be tied. Mine are not.

Melanie: Okay, let's hear it.

E.J.: I wanted to thank you for your testimony today, and I feel fairly confident that Nick would not have received such a light sentence if it hadn't been for you.

Melanie: Everyone deserves a second chance.

E.J.: It was a very magnanimous thing of you to do, Melanie.

Melanie: Did you track me down to tell me how magnanimous I was?

E.J.: Actually, there was something else I came to talk to you about.

Nicole: Uh, we don't have a lot of time here, okay?

Mia: Oh, my gosh. Look at this crib. My Mom said when I was a baby, I had to sleep in a drawer, and when I think my baby would... I'm sorry. It just, uh -- seeing this crib and everything makes it all feel so real.

Nicole: Well, it is real. All of it. Your baby is gonna be so happy here, Mia.

Mia: The daddy?

Nicole: Uh, yeah, and new brother.

Mia: Wow, he does look like my old boyfriend. Same hair color and all, except he's actually smiling. He looks nice.

Nicole: He is. He's wonderful. Well, I hope you've seen enough to make up your mind.

Mia: I guess. Uh, wait. Who's this guy?

Nicole: Oh, uh... well, that --

Tony: Well, hello.

Nicole: Tony.

Tony: Friend of yours, Nicole?

Marlena: Charlotte, it's Marlena. I need to consult with you about a patient. It's, uh -- it's really important. Would you call me as soon as you can? It's urgent.

Charlotte: Since we haven't had a lot of success with the hypnotherapy, I would like to help you make a smooth transition to your new life.

John: "A smooth transition"?

Charlotte: Even if you never get your memories back, you could have a very fulfilling life by starting over. You did it before with Marlena.

John: Well, yes, but circumstances --

Charlotte: I do think that there are people here in Salem that do not want the best for you. It's my professional opinion that you should leave this town and all the baggage that goes with it. You don't have to be the John Black from yesterday. I can help you be a whole new man. How does that sound to you?

Brady: Hey, Cynthia. Is Marlena back yet?

Cynthia: Sorry. Shouldn't be too long, though.

Brady: Do you mind if I wait?

Cynthia: Of course not. I'm just gonna grab some takeout.

Brady: Ah, got new magazines.

Cynthia: Just for you, Brady.

Brady: Okay.

Charlotte: The love of your life.

John: Yes.

Charlotte: What else? What else do you see, John?

Charlotte: Are you willing to do it? Take this bold step and leave Salem forever?

Brady: Is this real? Is Dad getting his memory back?

Tony: Aren't you going to introduce us?
