Rafe: Sami. Sami. Sami.
Man: Your picture doesn't do you justice.
Hilda: Who the hell are you, and why are you following me?
Man: Because you have something I want -- Sami Brady.
Hilda: I don't know what you're talking about.
Man: Wrong answer.
Sr. Theresa: I was wondering when I would see you again, Colleen.
Sami: Sorry. I just, um -- I-I hope I'm --
Sr. Theresa: What's wrong, child?
Sami: Everything. Everything.
Philip: Well, I was hoping there was a great-looking girl on the other side of this door.
Stephanie: Philip, that's so superficial.
Philip: Well, I meant I was hoping there was a great-looking girl with a keen intellect and a ready wit.
Stephanie: That is much better.
Chelsea: Well, I know that money isn't everything, but it definitely helps throw a great party.
Kate: [Chuckles] Well, people are going to start arriving. Chloe and Lucas should be down here. [Sighs] Oh, my God.
Kate: Well, I walked in on them a little earlier, and they are so much in love. They were getting a little distracted.
Chloe: Oh, my God.
Lucas: Chloe, the party's starting. Are you coming?
Chloe: It's Lucas.
E.J.: Hey. What are you still doing here?
Stefano: I think it's obvious.
E.J.: I thought Lexie asked you to leave.
Stefano: [Sighs] That's why she doesn't know I'm here.
E.J.: Okay, look, Theo's fine. Anything changes, I'll give you a call.
E.J.: Father, it's been a horrible day, and I think you should respect Lexie's wishes and go home.
Stefano: Elvis...you're absolutely right about one thing and one thing only -- this has been a horrible day, and I'm on the verge of losing my patience, and I know that's something you do not want, all right? So, I think it's time for you to stop giving orders and start taking them.
Nicole: Hey, E.J., I'm finally ready to go. Let's make a move on. Oh.
Tony: Oh, I'm sorry. E.J.'s not here.
Nicole: Good evening, Tony. I, uh [Clears throat] I didn't see you there.
Tony: Well, I've been sort of relegated to the shadows lately.
Tony: I'm sorry to say that I'm the messenger, and I have some bad news. And after that, worse news.
Nicole: Okay. Uh, the bad news?
Tony: E.J.'s with Stefano and will be for some time. Business, you know.
Nicole: Okay, that doesn't sound like the end of the world. And the worse news?
Tony: That this is only the beginning.
Lucas: It's getting late.
Chloe: I'll be right out.
Lucas: What are you doing? Is something wrong? I mean, why is the door locked?
Chloe: I don't want you to see me until I'm ready.
Lucas: You're not ready yet? What the hell have you been doing?
Hilda: Get your dirty hands off me.
Man: I advise you to keep calm. [Water splashes] No sudden movements... and no calls. I've been known to overreact.
Hilda: I think you're making a really big mistake here, bubba.
Man: Drop the purse. Drop it. Smart move. Now, where is she?
Hilda: I don't know who you're talking about.
Man: The blonde bitch you were protecting.
Hilda: "Protecting"? Who the hell do you think I am?
Man: I know who you are. So, you have a choice to make -- you tell me where they're keeping her or die.
Sr. Theresa: If everything is wrong, where do we start?
Sami: [Sniffles] Well, I guess I should say that everything isn't wrong. My baby's okay.
Sr. Theresa: Good. There's a lot you can't tell me, right?
Sr. Theresa: Then let me ask a couple of questions. Are you safe? Are you getting medical attention? Is anyone hurting you?
Sami: No. No. Ryan -- he's looking out for me. But after my baby's born... everything's gonna change and... and I don't know what I'm gonna do.
E.J.: So, now you're gonna give me orders, right?
Stefano: [Chuckles] You work for me. That's the way it works. Elvis, it's traditional.
Stefano: But, you know, today with all this stress and worrying about what's happening with Theo, why don't we try to, you know, change the tone of this conversation?
E.J.: But not the substance, right? I mean, you're still gonna hand me my orders.
Stefano: I'm simply trying to tell you that you are going to be in complete control of the Pacific Rim Project.
E.J.: Father, that's very nice, but, uh, with you, one is never in complete control of anything.
Stefano: Oh, come on. I also want to tell you that I was very impressed with the way you handled the crisis on New Year's Eve.
E.J.: Thank you.
Stefano: All right. Oh, boy, oh, boy. We need to hear about Theo. I suddenly realize that I have to make a profound change in my life. So I have decided to dedicate all my time for my family.
E.J.: Whether they want to or not.
Stefano: Well, Alexandra is overwrought, and I know that -- well, I will be patient and wait for her to come back to me.
E.J.: So I see. It's gonna be one big, happy, dysfunctional family.
Stefano: Well [Chuckles] I wasn't hoping it would happen those lines exactly, but happy family, yes.
E.J.: What about Tony?
Nicole: You know what I think? I think you want me to be upset that E.J.'s late for the party because of some business, but I'm not built like that. I don't care. But why are you telling me this and not E.J.?
Tony: 'Cause E.J.'s just now finding out.
Nicole: Oh. You already know. No wonder you're in such a sour mood. What, did Stefano tell you first and enjoyed twisting the knife?
Tony: Look, Nicole, what happened to Theo today is a lot more important than who's in charge of some stupid project.
Nicole: Theo? What's Theo have to do with this?
Tony: Nobody told you? E.J. didn't call you?
Nicole: Call me about what?
Tony: Huh. This is worse than I thought.
Stephanie: [Chuckles] Oh, Max.
Max: Sorry. I was trying to just back out.
Stephanie: I didn't know you'd be here.
Max: Yeah, Chelse invited me. And, uh, don't let me interrupt you, all right? Just, uh...
Philip: You okay?
Stephanie: Yeah, I guess. Um...no. No, I'm not.
Max: [Clears throat] Your date's here.
Chelsea: Max, I-I thought...
Max: What, that just because you told me not to come that I wouldn't come?
Chelsea: Well, I didn't exactly tell you not to come. I mean...it's fine.
Max: It's a fun party so far.
Chelsea: You just got here. Nothing's even happened yet.
Max: Not true. Not true. Um, Stephanie and Philip were partying out in the foyer and I walked in on them.
Chelsea: I'm sorry.
Max: Don't be. It's kind of like, wow, it's not bothering me as much as I thought it should -- would. Interpersonal relationships are kind of complex.
Chelsea: I learn just by being with you.
Max: Yeah. Wish they weren't, 'cause I hate complexity.
Chelsea: I suppose that that would explain your devotion to "Speed Racer."
Max: [Chuckles] Right. Look, on a serious note, um... my concern on the way over here tonight -- I was thinking... maybe we, like you and I... we're getting a little complex.
Chelsea: You don't have to stay if --
Max: Let me finish, okay? I want to stay. I want to stay, I do. Trust me. And if you think I didn't -- if you think I didn't like New Year's, you're dead wrong. 'Cause I like you, spending time with you and all that. I just don't like talking about it.
Chelsea: Like this afternoon at Chez Rouge.
Max: Yeah. It was getting kind of confusing. Not that I didn't understand what you were trying to say. I didn't understand what I was trying to say, either.
Chelsea: We just both want things to be simple.
Max: Right. Right. So I think maybe we should just, you know, hang out and shut up about it.
Chelsea: You know what? I think that's like the smartest idea you've ever hard.
Kate: Well, I'm starting to feel like I'm in an Agatha Christie story. First Daniel disappears. Now Chloe and Lucas. Must be something I said.
Lucas: Chloe, let me in.
Chloe: Get in the bathroom.
Lucas: What's wrong? Are you all right? Is something going on?
Chloe: Nothing. I told you, I just don't want you to see me yet.
Daniel: Just tell him the truth. 'Cause none of us can go on like this.
Chloe: Don't you understand? We have to.
Man: I'm really disappointed in you, Hilda. Can I call you Hilda? You can tell a lot about a woman by what's in her purse. You know that? What's important to her. Like your purse. All those pictures. It tells me your family is very important to you, right? Right?
Man: And the knitting? Bootees. Oh, how nice. A new grandchild?
Man: You want to see any of them again? Do you want to hold that grandchild?
Man: Then you need to tell me where Sami Brady is.
Hilda: If I do, you'll leave my family alone.
Man: Hilda, you have my word on it.
Sr. Theresa: Please, have a seat. Can you talk to the baby's father about this? Is he the one you said is looking after you? Does he know you're here? Does he know you're pregnant?
Sami: No. No, he doesn't know. And he can never find out.
Sr. Theresa: You're afraid of him?
Sami: I'm not just afraid. I'm terrified.
Stefano: Don't worry about tony. I'll see to him.
E.J.: Oh, and I'll see to the Pacific Rim Account and you'll be this magnificent patriarch. It looks like you have it all rather worked out.
Stefano: You know, I think you know, as a father, well, I'm a bit of a softy. But as your employer, watch your mouth.
E.J.: You know, Tony -- he said you did this.
Stefano: Yeah, well, Tony says a great deal besides his prayers.
E.J.: He told me that you were trying to take control of every aspect of my life.
Stefano: All right, what do you say we put off the family therapy until later, all right? Because the first thing I want you to do is to go over the Malaysian numbers, all right? And I want a report first thing in the morning.
E.J.: [Clears throat] No.
Stefano: Excuse me?
E.J.: I said no. You'll have the report in the afternoon. It's just busywork.
Stefano: That's not your call.
E.J.: Yes, it is my call, Father. You just put me in charge. Besides, I have an appointment I need to get to -- with my family. You know, I'm a big softy when it comes to that.
Stefano: Mm, mm, mm.
Tony: E.J. didn't even call you.
Nicole: I turned my phone off.
Tony: You were checking your messages when you walked in here. You thought E.J. was here. No, he did not call you.
Nicole: It's like living in the headquarters of the CIA.
Tony: Look, Nicole, my Father's grandson almost died today. And E.J., being such a loving family man, found the opportunity to restructure his company.
Nicole: And edge you out.
Tony: My Father wants to be the center, the only center of this family. He will reel E.J. in, and you'll be left alone.
Nicole: Hmm. You want E.J. to stay home and play Daddy so you can run the company.
Tony: I know you think this is all self-serving, but I can see what's coming. E.J.'s gonna get busier and busier. And what do you want to take a bet that the moment the child is due, suddenly he's going to get a call that he has to rush off to Hong Kong and to Singapore. Do you really want E.J. 10,000 miles from you when you give birth?
Nicole: Maybe. Maybe I do.
Philip: Steph...talk to me. What, are you thinking this is a mistake? It's okay. I'm a big boy. I can take it.
Stephanie: It's not about that. I-I still care about what happens to Max. I mean, finding out about us is one thing. Seeing us kiss is another. I have to go talk to him and set things straight.
Philip: Hey, why don't you let me handle that?
Stephanie: And in what universe is that a good idea?
Philip: Well...all I was gonna do was pull him aside and talk about football and then come back to you and tell you we talked about you. [Laughs] Look, he's a guy. He doesn't want to talk about what happened.
Stephanie: So I just pretend it never happened.
Philip: You just pretend it never happened.
Stephanie: That's so...
Stephanie: Fine, I'm not gonna talk about it.
Philip: Good idea.
Chelsea: Um...can I break the, uh... [Cork pops]
Max: I had it. I got it.
Chelsea: ...Talking rule for like just a second? Um...I'm really, really kind of glad that you're here.
Max: Mm-hmm. Well, thank you. Um...and you can keep talking about how good-looking I am, too, if you want. No? Okay.
Chelsea: There's something really, really weird going on, but I'm really happy is that I have a friend.
Max: Well, to friendship.
Chelsea: Do you know what I found out before I got here?
Chelsea: My grandmother and Daniel broke up.
Max: Ah. So he's, uh -- he's like a free agent again.
Chelsea: Yeah. I mean, after all that drama and my Grandma kind of goes, "oh, that? It's over."
Max: Hmm. You want him back?
Chelsea: Uh, no. No, no, no. That would be gross. I might share recipes with the woman, but...
Chelsea: Let's change the subject.
Max: Let's do that. Let's do that. But can I break the breaking talking rule thing that we had going? I-I-I know you've had, like, this incredible barrage of crap happen to you lately that you've had to deal with the past couple months. Um, I just -- I think you're a class act.
Chelsea: Thank you.
Chelsea: And I mean it. Thank you a lot.
Chelsea: So, I have an idea. Why don't we ditch this party?
Chelsea: And, um...
Max: Go somewhere.
Max: I'm fine with that. Down this baby.
Philip: I don't think you have to worry about him moving on. I think he has.
Chloe: Okay, Lucas, uh, I'm gonna tell you the truth. I was almost ready, and then my Mom called, and you know how stupid we can be. I started crying, and now my makeup is all over my face, and I look awful, and I have to start all over again.
Lucas: Look, I don't care what you look like. You know that.
Chloe: I know, but I do. Please, Lucas, for my sake, just go downstairs. I'll be down in a minute.
Lucas: Yeah, but, Chloe, your mom, she's --
Chloe: I know what she's like. Please, I don't want to talk about it. I'll see you downstairs.
Lucas: All right. All right, fine. I get the message. Take your time, okay? Sorry I hassled you.
Kate: Is there a problem?
Lucas: She wants to take more time.
Kate: Well, maybe she needs some help. Chloe, is there anything I can do?
Lucas: Yeah, Mom, come on. You can leave her alone.
Kate: Is there a problem?
Lucas: It's nothing. It's nothing important.
Daniel: I could walk out that door, go downstairs, walk out of this house, and out of your life, and never see you again. But you will still have one problem -- Lucas.
Chloe: What gives you the right to talk to me like that?
Daniel: I care about you.
Chloe: No, you don't. You just want to sleep with me.
Daniel: You know one of the things that makes me think about you constantly? It's how real you are. Somewhere along my life I've become jaded, but you -- you want it all. The whole thing, a total connection, and you should. You absolutely should. But don't settle. Don't settle for anything less than being completely fulfilled.
Chloe: I'm done listening to you. I hate you.
Daniel: It's too bad you don't.
Philip: I'm afraid I haven't been a very good host. I'm glad to see you helped yourself to the champagne.
Chelsea: Hey, look at that. The number of people at this party just doubled.
Philip: Yeah, where is everyone?
Max: Well, your mom, uh, went to go look for Chloe and Lucas, but she was unsuccessful, so...
Chelsea: But, you know, it's a big house. Stephanie, I really love your dress.
Stephanie: Thanks. I got it on sale.
Chelsea: It looks great with my bag.
Stephanie: Oh, my God. I totally forgot. I am such an idiot. I'm so sorry.
Chelsea: No, don't worry about it. I mean, what's the point of having friends if you can't steal from them, right?
Stephanie: You're right. Which is why I haven't said a word about those earrings.
Chelsea: Oh, my God. It's been like three months already. I'm so sorry.
Stephanie: It's all right. You've had a lot on your plate.
Chelsea: Speaking of things on your plate, you have got to try one of these. They're very good.
Philip: How about them bears?
Max: Philip, you don't have to talk sports with me, all right? It's no big deal.
Philip: That was for Steph. She's a little upset. She doesn't really want to --
Max: Look, Philip, it's okay, all right? More than anything, I don't want to have a man-to-man talk about it.
Philip: I get that.
Max: Except if you hurt her, I will beat the hell out of you. You got it?
Philip: Fair enough.
Max: [Clears throat]
Philip: So...The Bears, hmm?
Max: The Bears. Come on, man. Are you freakin' kidding me? We need a better team than that. I'm telling you.
Chelsea: Well, they seem to have patched things up.
Max: We did it last year. You know, the fantasy-football thing...
Stephanie: In that boy sort of way I don't understand. Switching to the girl way, uh, what's going on with you and Max?
Man: Now that was a very stupid thing to do.
Hilda: She was there. They must have moved her.
Man: So you don't know where she is.
Hilda: No, I don't.
Man: Why don't I believe you? Why do I think you were just jerking my chain?
Hilda: You're gonna have to believe me. I just don't know where she is.
Man: You know what that means, don't you? You are of no use to me at all.
Sr. Theresa: You make it sound like you are in serious trouble. Should you be telling the police about this?
Sami: That wouldn't help.
Sr. Theresa: You sure? They pack a little more punch than I do.
Sami: I know, but it's just --
Sr. Theresa: Are you in trouble with the police? Is that the problem?
Sami: No. No, it's not that.
Sr. Theresa: Do you still want to tell me what "it" is?
Sami: I'm driving you crazy, aren't I?
Sr. Theresa: Kind of. [Chuckles] But I guess what I have to do is trust you.
Sami: Well, listen, I'm gonna do what I think is best for my baby when I figure out what that is. Right now I should probably get back 'cause Ryan, um -- I don't want him to wake up. He'll know I've gone.
Sr. Theresa: He won't let you leave the house?
Sami: It's not like that, okay? It really isn't. It's just...complicated. It's complicated.
Sr. Theresa: Wait a minute. I have something I want to give you in case you find yourself with nowhere else to turn.
E.J.: No, no, no, the doctor says he's gonna be fine.
Nicole: And Lexie and Abe?
E.J.: Well, they had a pretty rough day, but they're gonna be okay. Listen, I'm pretty much done here, so I'm gonna head over and pick you up. I'm sorry I'm gonna be late.
Nicole: Look, E.J., if you have to stay there, if you have business you have to do, I can go to the party by myself.
E.J.: No, Chloe's your best friend. Come on. This party's as important as any business deal.
Nicole: Okay, well, I'll wait for you here.
E.J.: I love you. Okay, I'm heading out of here. I'll call you in the morning.
Stefano: [Sighs] So, you're not going to be so easy to push around, huh?
E.J.: Well, if I was easy to push around, you probably wouldn't have me running your businesses.
E.J.: Come here.
Stefano: All right, my dear.
E.J.: I'll call you in the morning.
Stefano: Very good. [Chuckles] Your devotion to Nicole is admirable and... a liability.
Sami: Oh, sister, I, um -- I have to get going. I'm so sorry.
Sr. Theresa: Oh, fine. Just take this with you.
Sami: A cellphone?
Sr. Theresa: What, did you think we used carrier pigeons? [Chuckles] My personal number is already programmed. Call me whenever, even if you just need to talk.
Sami: Uh, wow. I, uh, have no -- no idea how much this means to me.
Sr. Theresa: Well, I just hope it makes you feel a little less alone.
Sami: Thank you... for everything.
Max: See, I bet on that one yesterday, though.
Philip: That was a bad move, bro.
Max: It was a bad pick.
Chelsea: Do you understand fantasy football at all?
Stephanie: I guess it's like playing Barbies for guys.
Chelsea: I guess it keeps them occupied.
Stephanie: So, why didn't you tell me there was something going on between you and Max?
Chelsea: 'Cause there's not.
Stephanie: You guys kind of disappeared on New Year's.
Chelsea: We're friends.
Stephanie: When Philip and I walked in here, you guys seemed a little, you know, like close friends.
Chelsea: So we can be friends. We just can't be close?
Stephanie: That's not what I'm saying.
Chelsea: Well, you seem to be, like, an item now with Philip, so why do you even care?
Stephanie: Just want you to be honest with me.
Chelsea: Okay, well, honestly, um...Max and I don't really know what's going on. And I think that I'm old enough now to know that after everything that happened with Daniel and all this worrying about my grandmother, that I'm probably not in the right frame of mind to make any life-altering decisions right now.
Stephanie: I guess there's just this place deep inside and in most people that, when you break up, you kind of hope that the other person is hopelessly shattered. Max isn't hopelessly shattered, is he?
Philip: Yeah, Larry Johnson.
Kate: Oh, no, fantasy football. Shut down that computer. This isn't a tailgating party.
Max: Come on.
Philip: I heard this was supposed to be an engagement party for Chloe and fun boy over here. Where's Chloe?
Lucas: Um...she's still upstairs. Something came up.
Chloe: Why are you still here?
Daniel: I thought maybe it'd be a good idea if I got dressed before I went downstairs.
Chloe: Always thinking about others, aren't you?
Daniel: Yeah, I am. So, you're actually gonna go through with this. You're gonna go down to that party in your hot little green dress, smile --
Chloe: What I'm gonna do is resume my life, my real life, which is with Lucas.
Daniel: Yeah, right, you'll try.
Chloe: Do you know how smug and how arrogant you are? Like you're so irresistible that I have no control over myself.
Daniel: I'm not saying I'm irresistible.
Chloe: You know what? I am glad that this happened. I'm glad that this horrible, horrible thing happened because it made me wake up and it made me realize that I hate you.
Daniel: Oh, you do? You hate me?
Chloe: This is never gonna happen again, okay? Because I can't stand you touching me. Slut.
Kate: [Chuckles] You trade him, you have no defense at all.
Max: So you're gonna go with the giants with no throwing game? That's just stupid. Why would you do that?
Philip: Chloe's okay?
Lucas: Yeah, she's all right. A little bit emotional, you know.
Philip: Do you think we went a little overboard with the party? Think we made too big of a deal out of it? I mean, I know you and Chloe are doing well, but you know.
Stephanie: This family isn't intimidating at all.
Philip: Well, it's intimidating, yeah, but it's --
Lucas: This time, it wasn't my family, really. It was hers.
Kate: Hey, Lucas, come back me up over here, okay? And bring me a glass of champagne. Thank you.
Lucas: Yeah, champagne coming up. Good to have her back, huh?
Lucas: Yes, Mother dear, I am coming with your champagne.
Kate: Thank you. Thank you.
Max: It might be like a spandex material, but it's not spandex.
Philip: So, you and Chelsea seemed to be having quite a little talk.
Stephanie: Ah, it was just girl stuff.
Philip: Was she warning you about me?
Stephanie: No. Even if she were, it wouldn't matter.
Philip: Good. So, are you still worrying about Max? He seems to be doing okay to me. [Indistinct conversations]
Stephanie: Yeah, he does.
Philip: So...does that mean we can get back...where we started?
Stephanie: I think so.
Nicole: I am so glad you're back.
E.J.: I'm glad to see you. What's wrong?
Nicole: Oh, darn it. I just -- I don't want to be that needy woman who's sitting around waiting for you.
E.J.: So what's the problem?
Nicole: Tony tried to scare me, saying that your father's gonna try and take over our lives.
E.J.: Well, my father might try, but that doesn't mean he's going to succeed.
Nicole: Okay, look, I want to tell you something, and you have to believe me.
E.J.: Of course.
Nicole: I am fine, and the baby is fine, and if you have business to do, you do it. If you have to work 24/7, that is fine. If you're not there holding my hand while I'm in labor, I don't care because we are a team, right? And I totally trust you, and I hope you know you can trust me, too.
E.J.: Take a breath, all right? Look, we've come along way for two people who really weren't able to trust anybody.
Nicole: I would never hurt you. I promise.
E.J.: I know. Look, I, um -- I'm gonna break a golden guy rule and suggest that there is the smallest and I mean just the smallest possibility that you might be a little bit hormonal. [Chuckling] Just a little bit. Come on, let's go to a party and lighten up a bit, shall we?
Nicole: Okay. But you do trust me.
E.J.: I trust you completely. Okay?
Nicole: Yeah. Okay, let's go.
E.J.: I'll grab the presents.
Nicole: Okay, and I'll get the door.
E.J.: Goodness. What is this?
Nicole: [Chuckles] Big gift.
Rafe: [Inhales sharply]
Rafe: Hey. How long was I out?
Sami: Oh, uh, a while.
Rafe: You're still in one piece.
Sami: Yes, I am still in one piece.
Rafe: And you're still here. Guess I can trust you now.
Rafe: All right. Well, then, you know what? I think we're gonna be all right.
Sami: You know what? I think so, too.
Man: I'm gonna find you, Sami Brady. And when I do, you'll be as dead as our little friend here.
Kate: Ah, there she is.
Lucas: Oh, wow. You look amazing. You look so beautiful. Well worth the wait. Come on. Uh, excuse me. May I have everyone's attention, please? Giving me the honor, I'd like to introduce the future Mrs. Lucas Horton. Right there, although -- thank you, thank you. Although she'll probably keep her name because she's independent and everything like that. [Laughter] That's what I love about her. She is an amazing woman. She is beautiful, and she's the most real woman I've ever met in my life. To Chloe.
All: To Chloe.
Lucas: Yeah, yeah. Hear, hear.
E.J.: You are such a miserable wretch.
Victor: You don't know what misery is, E.J. But trust me, you will.
Max: I don't know. We're just hanging out. We're just -- we're friends.
Lucas: You make a cute couple.
Daniel: There's something I need to say.
Chloe: Please, Daniel, don't.
