Rafe: [Inhales sharply] Sami?

Sami: Hey. How are you doing?

Rafe: Oh, I just had this horrible dream that...you were in trouble.

Sami: I'm not. I'm fine. You can go back to sleep, okay? Get some rest.

Rafe: I'm good. I'm feeling a lot better.

Sami: Hey, I know you're feeling better, but you have a long way to go. You need to sleep this off, okay?

Rafe: I know. I need to guard you. I just -- I need -- guarding you.

Sami: Rafe? Okay. All right, I've got to get out of here. [Chuckles] Yeah, okay, I'll hear your opinion about it, too. You know, right now I could really use your help. I know, I know. The Lord helps those who help themselves. Rafe?

Lucas: You know, I am really glad that you came.

Chelsea: Yeah, me too. I wouldn't miss it.

Lucas: Yeah, right. "Wouldn't miss it." Come on, I know it's not a day at the beach for you, hanging out with my Mom and Daniel.

Chelsea: Look, Lucas, this is your night and Chloe's, so don't worry about me.

Lucas: Well, I am. I admire you. You know, it's great. You came here in spite of them.

Chelsea: Well, you know, Daniel and Grandma -- it's over. It's in the past, so...

Lucas: You're right about that. It is definitely over.

Chelsea: What do you mean?

Lucas: What do I mean? They broke up. They're not together anymore.

Chelsea: Why?

Lucas: I don't know. I guess my Mom just wanted to concentrate on her health a little bit, spend some time with her family.

Chelsea: You're covering something up.

Lucas: Like what?

Chelsea: Like one of them has moved on and I have a feeling that it's not Grandma.

Lucas: Moved on as in...

Chelsea: Yeah, Daniel has probably met somebody else.

Daniel: Don't go down there.

Chloe: I have to go down there. Lucas and I are announcing our engagement.

Daniel: You can't.

Chloe: That's not your call.

Daniel: Not until you and I talk about us, about what is going on here.

Chloe: There is nothing going on except that you're harassing me. Now go. Get out. Get out.

Daniel: You know, your big, dramatic gestures aren't gonna work with me. I want you to look me in the eye and tell me you want me to go.

Chloe: I want... I want...

Daniel: Me too. Me too.

Sami: Rafe. Rafe. Okay. Okay, this is it -- my one shot. He catches me with that phone and it's all over. Rafe, can you hear me? Okay.

Rafe: What's going on?

Melanie: Hey, bro. What's up?

Max: Nothing.

Melanie: Okay. You want to play that game? That's cool. I'll just sit here and stare at you until you tell me what's wrong.

Max: Okay. I was invited to a party and then I was uninvited all in the span of about a minute.

Maggie: I know this hasn't been easy -- an easy time for you here.

Marlena: And I thought I was covering it so well.

Maggie: Mm. Hmm, it's hard to cover when John walks away on Christmas Eve.

Marlena: But on New Year's Eve, he apologized sincerely.

Maggie: Well, that's good, then, isn't it? I mean, that seems like some progress.

Marlena: Yeah. What I know is that when it comes to John, I-I don't know anything at all.

Charlotte: Oh, you're a tad early. Can you just give me one second, okay?

John: So, we're gonna videotape this.

Charlotte: Yes, I told you that I would. It's standard operating procedure.

John: So you'll have me on file.

Charlotte: So that I can re-evaluate what you say and what you remember. I realize it might make you feel a little uncomfortable.

John: No, no, it's fine. Doesn't really matter anyway.

Charlotte: No?

John: No. I've decided not to go through with it.

Chelsea: You know, it's his life and everything, but shouldn't he wait to see how Grandma's doing before he goes and dumps her? I mean, he's the one that's telling us all the time that she shouldn't have extra stress.

Lucas: Just relax for a second. You got it all wrong. Listen, this is about her, all right? She wants to concentrate on herself, on her health so she can be there for us, for her family.

Chelsea: Seriously?

Kate: Seriously.

Chelsea: Well, then, why?

Kate: If you love someone, set them free.

Chloe: Don't do that. Don't ever do that.

Daniel: Oh, you are lying to Lucas and everyone you know. I am the one person you can be honest with.

Chloe: Don't talk about Lucas. Don't even say his name.

Daniel: Why? You think I'm out to hurt Lucas?

Chloe: I think that you're out to score to prove a point.

Daniel: "Prove a point"? No. No, that is not true. That is not true at all and you know it.

Chloe: Come on. What kind of a person are you, using words like "honesty" and "true"? What, all in the defense of some dirty affair?

Daniel: That is not what I want. That is not what I want at all.

Chloe: Well, good, because that's not what's gonna happen. I won't hurt him like that.

Daniel: "Hurt him"? What the hell do you think is gonna happen if you go ahead and marry him when you feel like this about someone else?

Chloe: Don't tell me how I feel.

Daniel: No, don't tell you? All right. Then you tell me.

Chloe: Honestly...that you're with Kate and I'm with Lucas -- end of story.

Daniel: "End of story"? End of story. This story has not even begun.

Chloe: I'm leaving. If you won't leave, then I will.

Daniel: I'm no longer with Kate.

Chloe: What, you left her?

Daniel: No. No, she left me.

Chloe: You didn't say anything.

Daniel: I didn't have to. Kate knows when there's a connection and when there isn't. Just like you do. So why is it? Why did you turn around just now when you heard that Kate and I had broken up?

Chloe: I was, um, surprised. That's all.

Daniel: That wasn't all. It means more to you that I am free now.

Chloe: It doesn't mean anything because I'm not -- I love Lucas, okay? I love him because he is kind, he's sweet.

Daniel: Do you think about him day and night like I do you?

Chloe: No.

Daniel: No.

Chloe: I mean, yes.

Daniel: You do. You can barely hold it together for an engagement party. What do you think marriage is gonna be like with this man?

Chloe: Wonderful. It's gonna be wonderful. Lucas is everything that I want.

Daniel: Yeah? Well, it's too bad. I'm what you need.

Melanie: Ow. All right, so, this party.

Max: Never mind. I shouldn't have brought it up.

Melanie: Max, would you stop? Look at me. Max. Will you let me help you for like once in my life? Was it Chelsea?

Max: Chelsea and I are good friends, okay? Stop jumping to conclusions. And that little smile you got going, stop that, too.

Melanie: What smile?

Max: That one. The one where you think you figured everything out.

Melanie: Okay. Look, I'm frowning. Now, tell me what's going on.

Max: [Chuckles] There was an engagement party tonight at her grandfather's house for Chloe and Lucas.

Melanie: Cool. So...

Max: I was invited. She invited me...sort of. And then we were joking around about it, and I was gonna go, or so I thought. Then she, like, immediately uninvited me.

Melanie: Well, that was kind of mean.

Max: She didn't want me there, so I'm not there. I'm here.

Melanie: Sulking.

Max: Working.

Melanie: Moping.

Max: Smiling. I'm smiling. I'm happy. I'm having fun.

Melanie: And you're lying.

Marlena: With all you have going on, you don't need this right now.

Maggie: And who got me through all that? Who listened to me? Please let me return the favor.

Marlena: All righty. I'm not sure if it's because I know John so well, but I sense a change happening in him. I sense that huge glacier inside of him is beginning to show some cracks.

Maggie: Well, that's good, isn't it?

Marlena: It's necessary. When that begins to happen, there will be a huge amount of energy released. It's about all that anger he's been repressing.

Maggie: You're scared for him, aren't you?

Marlena: Yes, I am.

Maggie: Well, this new doctor, maybe you should tell her all about this.

Marlena: [Laughs] If she's any good at all, she already knows it.

Maggie: "If"?

Marlena: Oh, no, no, no. I didn't mean to sound like that. I just mean that -- oh, gosh. I just wish I knew more about her.

John: What?

Charlotte: Well, I must say I'm not very surprised at your reaction. I've seen it many, many times before.

John: You mean I'm not unique? Damn.

Charlotte: John, what we're about to do tonight can be very scary, especially for somebody that wants or needs to be in control of himself.

John: You see right through me.

Charlotte: And all of your strengths -- your self-discipline, your intellect -- they're not gonna do you any good. They don't apply. And I'm sure you're asking yourself, "why in the hell would I trust her?"

John: Mm-hmm. Why should I?

Charlotte: I can't make you trust me. I can show you all the diplomas, but the point is I'm asking you to jump off a cliff and you have no idea what's at the bottom of the canyon.

John: If you're trying to talk me into it, I'm not so sure that's a good image to use.

Charlotte: There's only one reason that you would jump, John. You want your memory back, your life, and you want it so badly that you will take a huge, huge risk. So...do you feel lucky? Do you?

Sami: You were just thrashing around in your sleep. I was trying to calm you down.

Rafe: Yeah? All right. Just so long as you're not --

Sami: Hey, you know what? You're still kind of warm. I think we should try to get you to the hospital.

Rafe: No. I am not leaving you or the baby.

Sami: Well, that doesn't make any sense. You're not gonna be able to protect us when you're dead.

Rafe: I'm not dying, okay? I just need to get this fever down.

Sami: You know who knows how to do that? A doctor.

Rafe: So do I. I just need to, uh, take a few more aspirin and a cold shower.

Sami: A shower? Rafe, you can't even stand up.

Rafe: That's where you come in.

Kate: Why are you looking at me like that?

Chelsea: Because I'm worried about you.

Kate: Well, you don't have to be worried about me, 'cause I'm fine.

Chelsea: Why did you break up with Daniel?

Kate: [Sighs] You know, I'm not -- I'm not sure that's your business.

Chelsea: Okay, so I can walk around day by day wondering whether you're going to live or die, but I can't ask questions about an important part of your life?

Kate: Daniel's not an important part of my life anymore. But you are. My family is. Sticking around this earth is.

Chelsea: So nothing -- nothing happened? No fight? He didn't say anything to make you upset?

Kate: I know that you're worried about me, but you don't have to be. Because I think [Chuckles] I know that I made the right decision, and I know that my life is going to be simpler and happier with Daniel as my doctor and only my doctor.

Chelsea: This...really was your decision.

Kate: Yeah, it really was my decision.

Chelsea: Well, what about Daniel? How's he talking it?

Kate: Oh, you know, a man losing a woman like me, he was absolutely devastated.

Chloe: Why are you doing this to me?

Daniel: I am not trying to hurt you. I'm not trying to pressure you.

Chloe: Oh, come on.

Daniel: I am not trying to wreck you and Lucas. But for so long now, you look at me, I look at you, and nobody says anything. Nothing.

Chloe: Doesn't that tell you something?

Daniel: Yeah, you know what that tells me? Whatever is going on between us hasn't gone away. Damn it. Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me that you don't have this feeling inside you and that it is getting stronger. Tell me that. Look, we -- we didn't do this. It just -- it just happened.

Chloe: I didn't want it to.

Daniel: Which is an admission that it did.

Chloe: You know, they write operas about stuff like this. They never end well. Never.

Daniel: This isn't an opera, all right? This is life. This is our life.

Chloe: My life, the life that I want is downstairs with Lucas.

Daniel: Do you really think that it's fair to that man down there?

Chloe: Yes. Because nothing is going to happen, okay? I'm gonna be a good wife, a faithful wife.

Daniel: But that's not what he wants. He doesn't want you to be faithful. He wants you to want him.

Chloe: Like I want you? Okay, yes, I said it. I want you. Happy now?

Sami: You're saying you want me to help you take a shower?

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: Rafe, you're in no position to be showering. Don't you want me to just give you another sponge bath or something?

Rafe: No. No more sponge baths.

Sami: You're as weak as a kitten and still macho as hell.

Rafe: Please... would you help me?

Sami: Well, okay. Since you said the magic word, I will help you. All right, but...um, just so we're clear, how much participation will I have in this shower?

Rafe: You just get me there and back. I'll handle the rest.

Sami: All right. You got a deal. Can you get your legs down here?

Rafe: Oh, that feels good.

Sami: Yeah? All right, come here. All right, ready?

Rafe: Okay.

Sami: There you go. You good?

Rafe: Great.

Sami: All right. Now be careful when you're in there, okay? I don't want you to slip and fall just 'cause you're trying to be all macho or anything. Just be careful. Hold on to something the whole time, all right, and let me know as soon as you're done so that I can help you walk back.

Rafe: Hey, you're gonna be the first to know, okay?

Sami: Thank you.

Rafe: Okay.

Sami: Be careful. Keep holding on to something.

Rafe: Oh, my God, okay. Nag, nag, nag. [Water running]

Hilda: Put the phone down now.

Chelsea: You know, even if it was your idea, I'm sorry that you and Daniel broke up.

Kate: Oh, right, because you were so happy about our relationship?

Chelsea: I just don't want to see you alone.

Kate: Oh, baby. I am not alone, and I am not lonely, and I am not gonna join a convent, okay? I'm just gonna be a lot more picky.

[Footsteps approaching]

Lucas: A lot more picky?

Kate: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: You don't have the reputation of being too easygoing, Mother Dear.

Kate: [Gasps] Well, thank you. You know, part of my change in attitude is because of him.

Lucas: Really?

Kate: Yeah, really.

Lucas: Wow.

Kate: 'Cause of seeing what you and Chloe have together. I want that, too.

Lucas: Well, I think I'd have to wait about 10 or 15 years to get used to the fact that you approve of one of my mates.

Kate: [Laughs] Well, maybe Sami and Nicole didn't set the bar very high, but I think -- I know now after getting to know Chloe better, I think she's a one-in-a-million girl.

Lucas: Yeah, she is. And she's mine. All mine.

Kate: [Laughs]

Daniel: No. I'm not happy now. Look, I know this is crazy. But I...

Chloe: [Sniffles] In the opera "Fedra," she has an aria where she says that if she could, she would take a knife and just cut away the... this is not love, you know. This is nothing like love.

Daniel: Who knows? Who knows what it is yet?

Chloe: Oh, come on. We have one thing in common. Just one thing.

Daniel: No. No, that is not true. It is more than one thing. It is a connection. It is a raw connection. It is looking into each other's eyes and seeing each other's souls. That is how I feel when I'm around you. That's exactly how I feel. Like I'm... like I've been waiting for you my whole life.

Chloe: No. Love is what Lucas feels for me. That's love. It's what I feel for him.

Daniel: I know you want to believe that. Okay. I should probably...just go.

Chloe: Don't touch me. You son of a bitch! How could you do this to me? How could you do this tonight?

Maggie: You don't trust her?

Marlena: No, not what I said. I said what I meant. I wish I knew more about her. I wish I'd asked more questions, I'd talk to more people.

Maggie: Well, I think that we are talking about something more than this young woman's qualifications.

Charlotte: 9...8... John?

John: Yes?

Charlotte: When I reach 5, you're going to feel very calm and relaxed. Do you understand?

John: Yes.

Charlotte: 7...6...5... John?

John: Yes?

Charlotte: Now that you're calm...I want you to visualize a private place. It's very calm, very quiet. You don't need to tell me what it is because it's very private. But you need to see this. I want you to see this. Do you understand?

John: Yes.

Charlotte: Good. John, you are alone there. No one can come there. Do you understand?

John: Yes.

Charlotte: Good. Now, when I count to one, I want you to remember yesterday. Just one thing that happened yesterday. Do you understand?

John: I understand.

Charlotte: 4...3...2... 1. John...what do you remember?

Marlena: I think I know what you're about to suggest. You're thinking that maybe I'm jealous?

Maggie: No, that isn't what I was gonna say, but since you bring it up, are you?

Marlena: No! Oh, Maggie. Not romantically, I'm not.

Maggie: Of course not.

Marlena: But maybe professionally I am.

Maggie: Okay, you've lost me there.

Marlena: I want to be the one to help John. It bothers me that somehow she got through to him when I -- when I couldn't do that.

Maggie: Now, look, I don't want to scare you here, but I know you. You're worried. You don't get suspicious for no reason. Something is bothering you about her. Find out what it is.

Charlotte: Good. Now, we're going to go back some more. One more year. John, what do you see?

John: Nothing. Nothing but darkness.

Charlotte: Interesting.

Hilda: Give it to me.

Sami: Please, Hilda, just let me explain that I --

Hilda: Where's Rafe, and why are you alone with a phone?

Sami: He's taking a shower.

Hilda: Oh, well, it looks like I got here right in the Nick of time. And who were we calling, Samantha?

Sami: Don't talk to me like that. You're going back to your, what, your evil queen persona?

Hilda: Listen, what you think of me is none of my business, poodle pants. Using this phone could lead the man that wants to kill you right to your doorstep.

Sami: I don't know how much longer I can take this.

Hilda: Well, don't worry, honey. I don't think you're gonna have to take it much longer. We're closing in on this guy.

Sami: This guy shot the mayor and since then, he's ruined my entire life.

Hilda: We just need you to hold on just a bit longer.

Sami: I still hate you.

Hilda: I know, babe. I know, but you're safe, and Rafe and I, we're not gonna let anything happen to you. I promise.

Man 1: I have another bit of information for you -- an expensive bit of information.

Man 2: I'll decide that.

Man 1: It, uh -- it seems that the pretty boy isn't the only one watching the little blonde.

Man 2: So follow her.

Man 1: No good. She's off the case, but she knows where that girl is.

Man 2: Really? Then one way or another, she's gonna tell me.

Kate: Well, I think I'm going to ask Henderson to bring out some more hors d'oeuvres. I cannot tell you how good it is to feel hungry again.

Chelsea: She really is in a wonderful mood.

Lucas: Yep, she sure is.

Chelsea: Well, I mean, I get that she's happy for you and Chloe and everything, but you think that she'd be a little upset about the breakup with Daniel.

Lucas: Well, I think you're right. I don't think they ever belonged together.

Chelsea: Well, Lucas, I'm always right. I mean, people -- they really should clear their romantic decisions with me first 'cause it would save them a lot of grief.

Lucas: Really? What about me and Chloe? Do we get the clear?

Chelsea: Of course.

Lucas: Well, good. Really? You think that?

Chelsea: Yeah, I mean, Lucas, I'm here at your engagement party. What do you think I'm gonna say?

Lucas: I don't know. That it's a little weird, maybe. I mean, I kind of think it is.

Chelsea: You do?

Lucas: A little bit, yeah. I mean, I've known her forever, and we've never had these kind of feelings for each other, and then, all of a sudden, you know, I'm planning my life around her.

Chelsea: Well, yeah, I mean, it's like love at 367th sight.

Lucas: Yeah, yeah, something like that. I don't know, though. When it hits, you know, it hits hard. A feeling like that, you just -- you can't fight it. You got to give in.

Chloe: I hate you.

Daniel: I know. I, uh -- I go-- I should go.

Chloe: [Sniffles] No. I don't hate you. I hate myself. I was supposed to be so happy, but now...

Daniel: Now...

Chloe: I just feel so alone.

Daniel: Now that would be my fault. I am so sorry. I'm real sorry.

Marlena: You really think I should check up on her?

Maggie: Like I said, it would give you something to do. And you might end up having some peace of mind.

Marlena: I've forgotten how that feels.

Maggie: If she were treating someone that I loved, I would want to find out everything I could about her. And she is treating someone that you love more than anything in this world.

Marlena: Maybe she could help John remember... when he loved me.

Charlotte: John? I need you to look into the darkness. You will see a light. It's a very dim light, but it's gonna be getting brighter. And soon it will be bright enough that can see someone or something from your past. You have to want to see them. You have to try. What do you want to see from your past, John?

John: Doc.

Hilda: Well, sorry, toots, as much as I'd love to stay, I got another case. A real nice young woman had a bit of trouble. Hmm, nothing like you.

Sami: [Chuckles] Then what are you doing here?

Hilda: Just making sure you're all right. And...brought you some yarn and some needles to help you pass the time.

Sami: Thanks. Is this also to say goodbye? What are you working on?

Hilda: Hey, no. Zip-a-dee-do. Zip-a-dee...

Sami: A baby bootee? It's adorable.

Hilda: Well, I'll have them back to you when I'm done. But, uh, until then...take it easy on Rafe, will you?

Sami: Yes, ma'am. Oh, wait. You have to give him his phone back. He needs it.

Hilda: Uh, well [Sighs] if you promise me you won't use it. Promise.

Sami: I promise.

Hilda: Hi, pinkie swear.

Sami: Pinkie swear.

Hilda: But give it to him the second he's out of the shower and lock the door behind me.

Sami: Aye, aye, ma'am.

Hilda: At ease, private.

[Door closes]

Sami: Hey.

Rafe: Hey.

Sami: Are you okay?

Rafe: Uh...not exactly.

Sami: Ohh, Rafe! Oh, my God. Are you all right?

Maggie: Thank you for this.

Marlena: Oh, let me know how it turns out.

Maggie: Oh, I will. You take care of yourself.

Marlena: I will. [Chuckles] Thanks for listening.

Maggie: Uh, a bill will be in the mail. [Both laugh]

Marlena: Bye, honey. All right, Charlotte Taylor. What is your story?

Charlotte: John? Tell me what you see. John? Tell me what you remember.

John: The love of my life. It's Marlena.

Man: Your picture doesn't do you justice.

Hilda: Who the hell are you, and why are you following me?

Man: Because you have something I want -- Sami Brady.

Rafe: Last step was a doozy.

Sami: Yeah, you okay?

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: Here.

Rafe: [Grunts] I'm tired. I'm so damn tired.

Sami: Well, your fever's down. It's almost gone. Yeah, just sleep. Just sleep. Okay. A promise is a promise.

Chelsea: I think that Chloe is a very lucky woman.

Lucas: Well, thank you. She will be someday. I love her so much, I'm even thinking about growing up a little bit.

Chelsea: What are concept.

Lucas: Uh-huh. She's worth it.

Kate: Well, cook has really out-done himself. I am looking forward to this party. Where's Chloe? She's not down yet?

Lucas: No, she's taking her own sweet time getting dressed in that beautiful green outfit you got for her.

Kate: Oh, I can't wait to see her in that dress.

Lucas: Me neither. You know, I know you said that women don't like to be rushed, but I think it's time that I rush her a little bit.

Chelsea: Um, at your own risk, though, okay?

Lucas: Okay. When I return, I will have my beautiful bride-to-be on my arm.

Kate: [Laughs] I don't think I have ever seen Lucas so happy. Um, Henderson, have you seen Dr. Jonas by any chance?

Henderson: No, ma'am. I haven't.

Kate: I wonder where he is.

Nicole: Why are you telling me this and not E.J.?

Tony: Because E.J.'s just now finding out.

Stefano: I think it's time for you to stop giving orders and start taking them.

Sr. Theresa: You're afraid of him?

Sami: I'm terrified.

Chelsea: My grandmother and Daniel broke up.

Max: You want him back?
