Nicole: [Gasps] Oh, my God.
Chloe: We have so much to be thankful for. You know that?
Lucas: Well, personally, I'm thankful for you, Miss Lane.
Lucas: So thankful that I don't want to wait.
Chloe: For what?
Lucas: I got an idea. How about we act like it's Christmas, okay? We pretend. You think you can handle that?
Chloe: Oh, you bet I can.
Lucas: All right. Your sure?
Chloe: Oh, yeah.
Chloe: [Gasps] What is it? What is it? Come on.
Lucas: Mm. You know what? I think I'm gonna wait. I'm gonna wait till Christmas. That way, I won't spoil the surprise.
Chloe: No. Spoil it. Spoil the heck out of it. Please, please, please. I want my Christmas present now. Please.
Daniel: I wondered where you'd gone.
Kate: Good morning.
Daniel: Good morning. How'd you sleep?
Kate: Oh, I went out like a light after my family left.
Daniel: Yeah. Same here.
Kate: It was such a lovely party. It really was. Everyone here. I couldn't have asked for a better celebration.
Daniel: You know, it's -- it's kind of cold out. Why don't we -- why don't we go inside?
Kate: [Exhales deeply] Now, I assume from the look on your face last night that you went back to the hospital to get the rest of my test results.
Daniel: I did.
Kate: So, where do we go from here?
Marlena: There you are.
Brady: I'd hug you, but I'm sweaty.
Marlena: Do I care? Get over here.
Brady: Don't say I didn't warn you.
Marlena: How was your run?
Brady: It was good. I did four miles today.
Marlena: Wow. I'm impressed.
Brady: What are we doing? Are we waiting for someone?
Marlena: We are. Your father is gonna join us.
Brady: [Chuckles] Yeah, any minute now, right?
Marlena: It's gonna happen.
Brady: You sound pretty certain.
Marlena: Your father made a promise to me last night. It may be the beginning of getting the old John back.
E.J.: Ah, Mary.
Mary: Yes, Mr. DiMera?
E.J.: Have you seen Nicole? I can't seem to find her anywhere.
Mary: No, sir. But I did hear her slipping out early this morning.
E.J.: What do you mean, you "heard" her?
Mary: Well, sir -- I also heard -- it sounded like she was crying.
Dr. Baker: How are we feeling this morning? Has the pain subsided, the cramps lessened?
Dr. Baker: Good. Good. Did you schedule a follow-up with your O.B.?
Dr. Baker: Nicole, it's extremely important after a miscarriage --
Nicole: I did not have a miscarriage! Do you understand me?
Dr. Baker: Nicole, you need medical attention. Now, a miscarriage can cause serious complications to --
Nicole: Did you not hear me, Dr. Baker? I did not miscarry my baby. I gave birth to a beautiful, perfect little girl who was born asleep. She was my miracle child, the best gift that I was ever given, and for some reason that I will never understand, she was taken away from me before she could draw a single breath!
Dr. Baker: So you do understand?
Nicole: I do understand! I lost the baby! I was there, wasn't I?! I felt it, I saw it, I'm living it!
Dr. Baker: Of course.
Nicole: Oh, God. Oh, God, I am so sorry. It's just that that -- that word, "miscarriage" -- it makes it sound like it's -- it's some trivial medical problem, but it's -- it's not. It's a life. It's a baby. It was my baby. I had a baby. I had a little girl.
Dr. Baker: I am so sorry for your loss.
Nicole: You know, last night and -- and even this morning, I-I could still feel her inside of me, moving around. Phantom kicks.
Dr. Baker: Nicole, I assume you came to me for a reason?
Nicole: Yes, I did. I need you to give me something that no one else can. My life depends on it.
Lucas: We should wait. We should wait till Christmas. I don't want to spoil the surprise.
Chloe: No, no, no. There is no going back now.
Lucas: But don't you want to wake up early in the morning and see this just waiting for you under the tree?
Chloe: No, not really.
Lucas: Come on. Where's your respect, huh? Where's your respect for tradition?
Chloe: None whatsoever. Give me my present now or I'm gonna kill you.
Lucas: Fine, fine, fine.
Daniel: "What do we do now?" Even more aggressive treatment.
Kate: So that is the reason you were so grim last night. I thought that my tumor was responding well to the chemo.
Daniel: It was. It is. The primary tumor in your lungs is shrinking. But the scans showed that your cancer has metastasized.
Kate: To where?
Daniel: Lymph nodes... bloodstream... bone marrow.
Kate: Stage 4. So, how much time do I have left, doc?
Nicole: What I need from you, Dr. Baker, is hope. Now, I've been doing some research on the internet, trying to figure out if E.J. and I could have another baby.
Dr. Baker: Well, actually, when you were admitted, I had your medical records faxed over, and...the chance of you conceiving again is highly unlikely.
Nicole: But they told me that before and I got pregnant.
Dr. Baker: Yes, but that was before what happened.
Nicole: You know what? Don't say another word. I should have never come here. I should have gone to a specialist first.
Dr. Baker: I'm sorry I can't tell you what you want to hear.
Nicole: No, you can't, because you're ignorant.
Nicole: Even I know there are 1,000 other ways to get pregnant nowadays -- I.V.F., I.U.I., infertility treatments.
Dr. Baker: Listen, you can talk to any specialist in the world, but no responsible physician will tell you any different.
Nicole: Every doctor told me that I was infertile, and then E.J. and I created a baby the first time we were together. I know -- I just know that this was meant to be, that it can happen again.
Dr. Baker: Nicole, even if you could get pregnant again, the scarring will prevent you from carrying to term as it did this time.
Nicole: No. No, you're wrong, and I will prove it.
E.J.: Nicole was crying? Why was she crying?
Mary: I have no idea, sir. But ever since Miss Walker and Mr. Black returned home yesterday, Miss Walker has seemed not herself.
E.J.: Mr. Black? John? Brady.
Brady: So, what was this promise that my Father made?
Marlena: After the incident at the town house, your father and I came to an agreement.
Brady: "Incident"? Someone tried to kill you. Dad saved your life.
Marlena: And I will be forever grateful. But it was his behavior. He was in mercenary mode, ready to kill a man in cold blood, rather than let the police handle it nonviolently.
Brady: I can picture that.
Marlena: I told him I wasn't comfortable having him around my children or their children, that he was no longer welcome to be a part of our family unless he got professional help.
Marlena: I know I shouldn't have spoken for you, but in the heat of the moment...
Brady: It's okay. I would have done the same. What did he say?
Marlena: He agreed to an informal therapy session with an old colleague of mine -- Kenneth Taylor.
John: Or maybe not.
Brady: Dad, uh, we were just --
John: Yes, I heard, and I am delighted that you have brought my offspring up to speed on my personal business.
Marlena: Brady is concerned about you. I was just trying to give him some hope.
John: And who's next? I'm sure there's other people you would like to give some hope to.
Marlena: Don't mock me, John. Look, we're all concerned. We want what's best for you. You know that.
John: What I know is you didn't keep your word. You shot your mouth off about an issue that's between you and me and no one else.
Brady: Dad, stop.
John: So no more Dr. Taylor, no more therapy. Our deal is off.
Marlena: John, I didn't mean to upset you. You know that.
Brady: You know what? Maybe I should just...
John: No. Please. Continue your little conspiracy theory or whatever the hell it is.
Marlena: John, wait a minute. Wait. Look, when I told Brady that you were seeing a therapist, I wasn't disclosing medical information. It's a family issue, and Brady's a member of our family.
John: Oh, I see. Would you like to broadcast my life to the rest of my family? How about sending a mass e-mail? I mean, you can C.C. Tony, E.J. How about old man Stefano?
Brady: Wait. What are you talking about? "Old man Stefano, Tony, E.J."?
John: You mean no one bothered to fill you in, son?
Brady: Fill me in on what?
John: I'm a DiMera... and so are you.
E.J.: I see. So it was Brady who brought Miss Walker home yesterday?
Mary: I have no idea, sir.
Mary: I'm sorry, sir. Had I known it was important...
E.J.: Thank you. That'll be all. Let's see. It's about time I went to see Dr. Baker about the butt of all this.
Salesperson: And it comes in navy blue, as well.
Nicole: Listen, I --
Salesperson: Now, if you don't like the length, we can raise the hem or lower it -- whatever you want.
Salesperson: How far along are you, anyway?
Nicole: 20 weeks.
Salesperson: Really? Well, you look incredible. Hold on. Two seconds. Here we go. Your basic fake pregnancy tummy. Exactly like the ones they use in the movies. Touch it. Does that feel real, or what?
Nicole: Wow. It does.
Salesperson: So, let's put it on so you can get an idea.
Nicole: Oh, please.
Salesperson: Come on. It's easy. You just strap it around like this, and there we go. Perfect. The beautiful mommy-to-be.
Chloe: A key?
Lucas: Got to get up pretty early in the morning to fool you.
Chloe: So, is this my gift?
Lucas: Yeah, that's your gift. You seem pretty disappointed. Maybe I should have waited till Christmas.
Chloe: No, I'm not disappointed. I just didn't think -- I wasn't anticipating...
Lucas: Getting a key to our dream house?
Lucas: Yeah, yeah. Everything's final. All the papers are signed. Construction's under way.
Chloe: Oh, my God. Lucas, I can't believe that. I mean, I knew that you'd bid on the property, but I didn't know that they'd accepted it.
Lucas: Well, they did. They accepted it. And I wanted to surprise you. And in case you're interested, there's a hot tub for us.
Chloe: Oh! I'm very interested.
Lucas: Got that fireplace in the bedroom you wanted.
Chloe: Nice. There had better be.
Lucas: Mm-hmm. Brick-oven stove. Ordered that myself.
Chloe: Wow. Does that mean I have to learn to cook?
Lucas: It sure does. And there's just one more upgrade I'd like to add.
Chloe: Oh, yeah? And what's that?
Chloe: Wait. Let me guess. A square of corian?
Lucas: No. No. No. No. I took the liberty of designing it myself. I hope it's to your liking. But it's a little better than corian stuff. Check it out. The last few months have been amazing, and I've never been happier in my life. You have been wonderful to me, and you've been amazing with Allie. And I want you to know that I love you with all my heart and soul.
Chloe: I love you, too.
Lucas: Chloe, will you marry me?
Daniel: It's impossible to predict, Kate.
Kate: You must have some idea.
Daniel: There are just too many variables.
Kate: Well, how much time do you think, Daniel?
Daniel: There have been cases, and I'm sure you read about them, where the person was given very little time and the cancer went into remission and they survived for years.
Kate: [Exhales sharply]
Daniel: We are going to keep fighting this, Kate.
Kate: Oh, please, don't. Don't do that. No pep talks, not now.
Daniel: I know you had gotten your hopes up.
Kate: Oh -- well, that's not your fault, 'cause you certainly did everything you could to tamp them down, didn't you? I think -- I think this is my bad karma coming back to get me.
Daniel: Don't do this, Kate. Look at me. Don't you dare blame yourself, and don't you dare give up.
[Knock on door]
E.J.: Dr. Baker?
Dr. Baker: How can I help you?
E.J.: E.J. DiMera. We spoke on the telephone yesterday.
Dr. Baker: Oh, yes, regarding Miss Walker.
E.J.: That's right. Yeah.
Dr. Baker: Good to meet you, Mr. DiMera.
E.J.: Good to meet you, too, Dr. Baker. So, as I explained when I called, Nicole is the mother of my child, and she told me last night that she was treated here for a small hemorrhage.
Dr. Baker: Right.
E.J.: Okay. Well, she was acting very strangely when she came home, so I would like to know what her restrictions are.
Dr. Baker: Restrictions?
E.J.: Well, I suppose what I'd really like to know is what her prognosis is and what the child's prognosis is. Now, can you tell me that?
Dr. Baker: The case is complicated.
E.J.: Complicated? In what way is it complicated?
Dr. Baker: Well -- Mr. DiMera, I-I have the chart right here. Let me just take a look.
E.J.: "Chart"? Why would you need the chart, doctor? I mean, she was just here, wasn't she?
Dr. Baker: Well, I'm just looking to see you are listed as the baby's father...which means I can tell you everything.
Nicole: I'll take it.
Salesperson: How could you not?
Nicole: And I'll take this, too.
Salesperson: You want to buy the pregnancy belly?
Nicole: Yep. And I don't even need a bag, 'cause I'm gonna wear it home, too.
Brady: Let me -- let me try to wrap my head around this for a second. You're a -- you're a DiMera? And since you're my Father -- oh, my, mother of...
John: Yes, you're a lucky man, Brady DiMera.
Brady: Lucky? Yeah, I'm lucky. Who wouldn't want those superior DiMera genes? Why am I learning about this now? Why didn't anyone bother to tell me this?
Marlena: We were waiting for the right time, honey, but you just got back to getting your life together.
Brady: True. Yeah. And I'm so weak and fragile that I wouldn't have been able to handle something like that? Is that your rationale for not telling me? I mean, something's that's gonna change my life here?
Marlena: This does not change who you are.
Brady: You didn't have the guts to tell me, did you? No, I take that back. You didn't care enough to tell me, right? 'Cause I'm just some extra in your little movie, right, Dad?
John: Speaking of guts...
Brady: What? No, please, please. Finish your sentence.
John: Suck it up and be a man. This is the hand you were dealt, so play it.
Brady: You know, speaking of guts... and being a man, why don't you try doing the same?
John: You don't want to talk to me like that, son.
Brady: Am I being disrespectful to you?
Brady: I'm sorry. I would apologize like crazy, but the problem is you're not actually my Father anymore. You're some pathetic robot that's walking around as if you're superior to everyone else, mocking everyone else, insulting everyone else.
John: Doctor, are you gonna let him talk to someone with abnormal brain patterns like that?
Brady: Don't bring her into this. This is between you and me,
John: Let me tell you something. I've been through rehab, and I know all the reasons for avoiding your problems and avoiding therapy, and they are all cop-outs. So, why don't you be a decent guy for a change and put your family first and do what you need to do to get your life together and, you, stop being a damn coward?
Dr. Baker: What exactly did your wife tell you, Mr. DiMera?
E.J.: She told me that she felt a twinge and came here to get it checked out. I'm sorry. Is there some kind of problem? What exactly is it you're looking for?
Dr. Baker: Your wife is listed as a single woman. I'm looking for a Hipaa form.
E.J.: What exactly is a Hipaa form?
Dr. Baker: I miss poke when I said that I could share everything with you.
E.J.: This is my child, okay? I need to know what is going on?
Dr. Baker: And as her doctor I have to protect her privacy. Good day, Mr. DiMera.
Mary: I hope you're feeling better.
Nicole: I am. Thank you, Mary.
Mary: When I was pregnant, I would cry at the drop of a hat. It can be an emotional time. Can I fix you something to drink?
Nicole: I'm good. Thank you.
Kate: I need to be alone.
Daniel: No, that is the last thing you need.
Kate: Oh, God. Really? And how the hell would you know that? You know the one thing I'm not gonna tolerate from you? Is you telling me to be brave and to be strong and to have courage, because I've heard it all, and it means nothing. It means nothing. [Sniffling]
Daniel: Come here. Let me tell you what I won't tolerate. You will never speak of karma again. Do you understand me? And you will never even suggest that you brought this on yourself. There is a misconception out there that people can just will away their illness. I've tried. All right? They can't. Now, having a good attitude -- it helps, but up to a point, 'cause there are plenty of people who fight like hell and they have a great attitude, but, still... cancer spreads, but it is nothing -- nothing -- that you did or didn't do. Do you understand me, Kate? Look at me. Do you hear me? I am not gonna go through this again. Now, you had asked me what the next step is. Well, here it is. All right? You are going to pack your things, and we are gonna go back to the hospital and continue your treatment, and I am gonna work with your oncologist to do whatever it is to beat this, all right? And you will have hope, and you will be strong, and you -- you will be brave. How's that sound?
Kate: That sounds good. That sounds fine.
Daniel: Well, what are you waiting for? Go. Pack.
Kate: You have to promise me if I -- if I go to that hospital, you have to promise me one thing.
Kate: That I'll come back out of it.
Daniel: Give me your hand. Mm. I promise you.
Lucas: Let's try this on for you. You ready?
Lucas: Are you sure?
Lucas: Here it comes. It's on your finger! Look at that, huh?
Lucas: Yeah? [Smooches]
Lucas: Whoa, wait a minute. It's my Mom.
Chloe: Oh, take it. Take it.
Lucas: You sure?
Chloe: Yeah, yeah. Take it.
Lucas: Hello. What? When? You know what? I'll -- I'll be right there. And I love you.
Chloe: What's wrong?
Lucas: My Mom's got to go back to the hospital...'cause the cancer spread.
Marlena: You know, you and I had a deal.
John: Yeah, well, you blew your end of it, Blondie.
Marlena: Oh, will you stop with that nonsense?
John: I won't be goaded into meeting some old fart therapist who's gonna take my money for telling me I got to be somebody I'm not.
Marlena: Nobody will say that to you. All you're trying to do is get out of the session. John, one meeting -- that's all I ask.
John: It's a waste of time.
Marlena: If there's any left of the old John inside you... he was a man of honor. He really cared about his family.
John: Oh, knock it off, will you? I'm here, aren't I? I said I'll see him one time. That's all. Just once.
Marlena: Thank you.
John: And don't go shooting your mouth off to anybody else about me getting my feelings remodeled. Do you hear me?
Marlena: I won't say a word.
John: Damn therapists are all the same. You think you know everything.
Marlena: Just give it a chance.
John: After this, it is over. No more trying to change me. You're gonna have to find another way to amuse yourself. Do you understand what I'm saying?
Marlena: I do understand. After this session, I will officially take myself off the case. No, I'll do better than that. I will leave right now before you even have your meeting. John... I'm so sorry if I overstepped with Brady. It's just that we love you so much. I love you so much. Always will. You saved my life. I'd love to return that favor.
John: And if this doesn't work? 'Cause I can tell you right now it won't.
Marlena: One step at a time. That's all I ask.
John: "One step at a time."
E.J.: Wait, doctor. Now, you listen to me. I don't care if she told you that she was single. I don't care if she told you she was the duchess of bloody Kent. This is my child, and I deserve to know the truth.
Dr. Baker: I took an oath, Mr. DiMera. I have a duty and an obligation to protect the privacy...
E.J.: And I am a lawyer, and I will get an injunction against you!
Dr. Baker: Why would you do that? Why would you do that? Why wouldn't you just talk to Nicole yourself?
Nicole: [Gasps] Brady.
Brady: What are you doing out of bed.
Nicole: I-I just got tired of laying around. What are you doing here?
Brady: I came by to see how you're feeling.
Nicole: You shouldn't be here.
Brady: Why not?
Nicole: It's none of your business, okay?
Brady: I think it is.
Nicole: I can't do this now.
Brady: Hold on. Wait a minute. I just -- I just found out that I'm a DiMera, okay? So, hey, it turns out I'm family.
Nicole: Whoo-hoo. Let's celebrate.
Brady: Where is E.J.?
Nicole: He's not here.
Brady: Well, then, I'll wait here until he gets back.
Brady: No, I'm sorry, Nicole, I'm coming in. Whether you like it or not, I'm --
Daniel: Where do you want me to put this photograph?
Kate: Um, you can put it right there, right by the bed.
Daniel: Well, I'll, uh, I'll give you some privacy.
Lucas: What's going on?
Daniel: Well, your mother's inside.
Lucas: You told her she was getting better. You gave her false hope.
Daniel: Her cancer responded favorably to the treatment.
Lucas: Then why is it still spreading?
Daniel: You know I can't answer that.
Lucas: All right. What do we do now? The cancer keeps spreading. I mean, even with the powerful chemo?
Daniel: We are gonna kill your mom's immune system and rebuild it from scratch. I haven't told her yet. I just wanted to give her time to process the information I just gave her, but, uh... she needs a bone-marrow transplant.
Brady: All right, what is going on? What are you wearing under there?
Nicole: Keep your voice down, please.
Brady: You didn't tell E.J. about the miscarriage, did you? He thinks you're still pregnant? You're pretending to be?
Brady: You can't hide this thing forever.
Nicole: It's none of your business what I do.
Brady: I think it is. I mean, why'd you call me? Why did you turn to me?
Nicole: Because I couldn't reach E.J. I didn't have anyone else. And it doesn't give you the right to tell me how to live my life.
Brady: Hey, I am not trying to do that.
Nicole: I lost my baby. It is normal for me to feel sad.
Brady: Of course it's normal for you to feel sad, but you're in denial, Nicole.
Nicole: I am not denying anything. I am painfully aware of what I've lost. All I wanted to hear today was that I could conceive again, that E.J. and I could have another child. And I thought if that were possible, then I would have the courage to tell him.
Brady: What happened today?
Nicole: [Exhales deeply] Dr. Baker said there was no hope.
Brady: Oh, my God. I'm so sorry.
Nicole: E.J. had me move in here because I was pregnant. He was only with me because I was pregnant.
Brady: No. No. I'm sure that's not true.
Nicole: I can't lose them both right now, Brady. I don't know what else to do.
Kenneth: Hello. You've reached Dr. Kenneth Taylor. If this is a medical emergency, dial 911. Otherwise, leave a message. Thank you. [Beep]
Marlena: Dr. Taylor, hi, it's Marlena Evans. I'm sorry that I haven't been in touch for a while. I understand that you are seeing John, and I was hoping that after the session you could let me know if he decides to continue therapy. That would be great. Thanks. You've got my number. Bye-bye.
John: He's late. To hell with him. Keep the change.
Pete: Thank you.
John: Yeah. Oh! Excuse me.
Charlotte: Sorry. Not your fault. I-I -- really, I should have --
John: Let me help you with those, please.
Charlotte: Thank you.
John: Where'd you get this?
Charlotte: Excuse me?
John: Do you know Dr. Taylor? I didn't give him permission to show my files to anyone.
Charlotte: You're John Black?
John: Yes, and...
Charlotte: Actually, I'm Dr. Taylor. Dr. Charlotte Taylor.
Chloe: Oh. Hi. I just wanted to give Lucas and his mom some time alone.
Daniel: Is that a, um -- I mean, are you and Lucas...
Chloe: Yeah. He just proposed, like 10 seconds before we got the call about Kate. I was just trying to hide it, you know? I don't want to give her anything else to worry about.
Daniel: Are you sure it wouldn't just brighten her day?
Chloe: I'm not really willing to take that chance right now. So if you wouldn't mind just keeping this between us...
Daniel: Well, you kept my secret when Kate needed me to be strong and I was anything but, so, um, whatever you need.
Chloe: Thank you.
Kate: First, I want to talk to you for a minute. Have a seat.
Kate: Look, um, the reason that I told you about my condition first is... well, I think it's because we've been through a lot of hard times together and I tend to worry about you the most.
Lucas: Please don't worry about me. I'm here for you, all right? I'm trying to help you.
Kate: I know. And there is a very important way that you can do that. [Sniffles]
Lucas: Just -- just tell me what it is and I'll do it.
Kate: You can show me how strong you are -- okay? -- As this continues -- this illness. You can prove to me that you have the courage to accept the outcome no matter what it is, okay? I need to know -- I need to know that you're gonna be all right without me.
Lucas: Don't say that, please. Don't talk like that, okay?
Kate: You asked me what you can do...and this is it. You can promise me that you are going to be okay.
Brady: You have to tell him.
Nicole: You're not listening to me.
Brady: Nicole, he is not going to leave you because you lost the baby.
Nicole: Maybe not today... maybe...not tomorrow, but... I can't face it right now, Brady -- not right now. I just -- I need a little bit more time.
Brady: But you will tell him.
Nicole: Eventually I will, when I'm -- when I'm ready. Okay, but promise me. This is my body and my decision. Please -- please don't say anything to him.
E.J.: Brady Black. Again. So, what the devil's going on here, hmm?
Philip: I'm taking a chance on you but need you up to speed.
Melanie: So I don't embarrass you?
Philip: So you don't embarrass yourself.
Nicole: Let me handle this my own way.
Brady: I hope you know what you're doing.
Sami: If it has to do with my case, I'm entitled to know.
Rafe: I went on a fact-finding mission. Found out some information about your baby's daddy.
