E.J.: So... are you ready for your surprise?
Nicole: I can't wait. You know, actually, I have a surprise for you.
E.J.: Ah. Is this a competition?
Nicole: Mm-hmm. Only mine's kind of kinky.
E.J.: It is?
Nicole: [Giggles] Mm-hmm.
E.J.: Well, now I'm very intrigued.
Nicole: And it involves handcuffs...
E.J.: Oh, absolutely.
Nicole: ...Only not on me.
E.J.: Oh. There we go.
Nicole: Look at this.
E.J.: Nick Fallon?
Nicole: Yeah. That means I'm off the hook.
E.J.: This is the most amazing news, the best. This is gonna make my surprise all the sweeter.
Nicole: Uh, well, are you gonna tell me what the surprise is already?
E.J.: I'm thinking about it. [Both laugh] Patience. I don't think I've quite finished warming you up yet.
Sami: Wow. Nick Fallon. Who would have thought?
Rafe: Who's that?
Sami: Um, as it turns out, E.J.'s slutty girlfriend is not the one who murdered that Trent Robbins guy after all.
Rafe: Well, you see? Look at that. One less thing that you have to worry about. Your son isn't living with a murderer after all.
Sami: [Scoffs] Nicole's not a murderer. He's still living with Stefano DiMera. And I'm still in this unbelievable hamster cage.
Rafe: Gee, not like you to complain.
Sami: Okay, Agent Sarcasm, why don't you explain to me how these FBI guys are so good at catching a killer of a low life like Trent Robbins. But when it comes to someone important like the mayor and a killer who happens to be making my life a miserable hell, they're useless.
Rafe: Well, I say be careful what you wish for.
Sami: What does that even mean?
Rafe: What if they were to catch the killer, and you could get out of here today? Where would you go in your, uh, condition?
John: What have you got?
Steve: A bit of a breakthrough. I'm meeting somebody who says he can identify the mayor's killer.
John: Well, he better do it soon, before he strikes again. [Cellphone vibrates]
Nicole: Mm-hmm. Okay. I'm all warmed up.
E.J.: Are you sure? I mean, you say that. But, you know, maybe just to be sure, we should, uh...
Nicole: You know, you are driving me crazy.
E.J.: Good. That is the idea.
Nicole: E.J. DiMera, if you do not tell me what the surprise is...
E.J.: Oh, the surprise. Oh. Right. No, sorry. I'm completely...forgot.
Nicole: Well, I haven't. I was up half the night trying to come up with what it is.
E.J.: What did you come up with, anything good?
Nicole: Yes. I thought maybe it could be a new car or a credit card with no spending limit.
E.J.: They would have been really good surprises. Yeah. No, it's not that. It's something better than that.
E.J.: Mm. Really. [Drawer opens] What have we got there? Oh, look. Open it.
Sami: How am I supposed to know where I'd...go.
Rafe: Okay, well, if you don't know, then why are you so anxious to get out of here?
Sami: 'Cause this place sucks. You're always breathing down my neck, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Rafe: Oh, right. So the whole thing about you needing to keep the baby a secret from the evil DiMeras?
Sami: That is true. E.J. and especially Stefano can never find out about this baby. But that does not mean that I want to stay here. This place has no air.
Rafe: No? You seem to be breathing just fine.
Sami: Breathing nasty, stale air. Come on. Let's just open the window.
Rafe: Oh, what, so we can freeze to death?
Sami: I'll put my coat on. Maybe we could even go outside for a second.
Rafe: Sami, we've already been over this.
Sami: We don't even have to go anywhere. We can just stand in the doorway. I'll stand right next to you. I won't try anything stupid. We can just enjoy the fresh air. Come on.
Rafe: Uh, forget it.
Sami: Okay, how about the drapes? Let's just open the drapes. And then I can see if it's day or night or sunny or cloudy or raining outside. I swear, living here is like living in a tomb.
Rafe: It's day, and it is sunny outside.
Sami: Oh, great. So you get to look outside, and I don't.
Rafe: Yeah, because no one is trying to kill me!
Sami: I can fix that. You know what? I am sick of you and your stupid rules. I am opening the drapes, and I don't care what you say.
Rafe: Sami, you are making me really angry right now, okay? Are you sure you want to do that?
John: Blondie, it's me.
Marlena: What can I do for you?
John: I met with my bounty hunter. He's on it. I should have good news for you soon.
Marlena: Ah. And the other reason you called?
John: Other reason?
Marlena: You know, Brady. Your son. I thought you might want to spend some time with him, get to know him again, reconnect.
John: I don't have any time for this now. We have a killer on the loose, and we have to find him before he hits again.
Nicole: What is this?
E.J.: Open it and see.
Nicole: Okay. [Giggles] "Your bag has been packed for romance and sin." Hmm. "Go upstairs, and your journey will begin." Romance and sin? Elvis Junior, what are you up to?
E.J.: What I'm up to is a romantic weekend away with the mother of my child... who also happens to be somebody that I adore and can't get enough of.
Nicole: Could this day get any better?
E.J.: How does a cozy, secluded cabin at a luxurious mountain resort sound?
Nicole: Like heaven. When do we leave?
E.J.: When are you gonna be ready?
Nicole: Did you really pack my bag?
E.J.: I did. I, uh, might have forgotten one or two things, but I think I got all of the, uh, important items.
Nicole: Oh, really? And what would those be?
E.J.: Well, you'll have to wait and see.
E.J.: I'm ready to go when you are.
Nicole: Okay. I'll be back in five minutes. You're the best.
E.J.: Very funny. How long have you been there?
Stefano: Long enough to have my spirits lifted no end. You know, Elvis, it really does my heart good to see you so happy, you know -- you and your adorable Nicole.
E.J.: Well, I'm touched, father. Really, I am. But you're gonna have to go and get your kicks elsewhere because we're going away for the weekend.
Stefano: I heard you mention that, yes.
Stefano: It's just a shame that you're going to have to postpone.
Stefano: Something has come up, Elvis, all right, and it requires your presence immediately.
Kayla: Hey! When did you get here?
Steve: Just a few minutes ago. Just getting some research done.
Steve: You heading into work?
Kayla: Yeah, in a little while.
Steve: So, when's your shift start?
Kayla: Are you trying to get rid of me?
Steve: No, why?
Kayla: Hmm. Well, what are you working on?
Steve: Sorry, baby. I'm not at liberty to share that.
Sami: Let me go.
Rafe: No, not until you calm down and promise to stay away from the window.
Sami: Oh, come on, like you really think the hit man's standing out there, getting frostbite, waiting for me to show my face so he can take another shot at me?
Rafe: No, probably not. But I'm not taking any chances. [Cellphone ringing]
Sami: Answer it. It could be about the killer. What if they found him, and now we can get out of this hellhole?
Rafe: Hernandez. Okay, thanks. Keep me posted.
Rafe: The lead they had went cold.
Sami: Oh, God. No. No! I mean, I was really praying, you know, that they were gonna find this guy. And then we could get out of here. I mean, I don't know exactly where I'd go, but I could go somewhere, somewhere besides here. And I could see other people and my children.
Rafe: Look, I'm sorry.
Sami: [Crying] I just don't know how much longer I can take this.
Rafe: Sami, you're gonna have to get a grip. You're gonna have to face reality here.
Sami: Reality? I don't even know what that means anymore.
Rafe: The fact of the matter is this -- they might not find the killer, in which case we could be stuck here, together, for a very long time.
Sami: The way things are going now, we could be stuck here forever together, and the killer could be anywhere by now.
Marlena: John, I appreciate your concern and your efforts. I-I would just like for you to be careful, okay? I-I'm fine. I'll be fine. I'm just worried about Sami.
E.J.: You cannot be serious.
Stefano: Our limousine is waiting for us outside.
E.J.: What could possibly be so urgent?!
Nicole: You did think of everything, you devil, even sexy nighty, bubble bath, massage --
Stefano: Good morning, Nicole.
Nicole: Oh, gosh. I didn't know you were here.
Stefano: This is my home. I live here.
Nicole: Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Of course. And I just want to thank you again for a lovely dinner last night.
Stefano: Oh, I enjoyed it, as well. And you know something? The more I see of you two together, the more I realize that you were meant for each other.
E.J.: Yet, apparently, he has a problem with us going away this weekend.
Nicole: What? Why? It's just for the weekend.
Stefano: Nicole, my dear [Chuckles] it really pains me to be the one who has to put the kibosh on your little rendezvous, but something has come up. We have urgent, my new lawyer and myself, that we have to attend to. I'm sure that you understand.
E.J.: Would you excuse us? I'm so sorry. I -- it can't be helped.
Nicole: So, our romantic weekend is off? It's not happening?
E.J.: No, no, no, no, no, no. It's not off. It's just delayed a little bit. Okay?
E.J.: Listen. Why don't I give you this? This is the directions to the lodge and the confirmation number. You go up ahead of me. I'll be up there really soon. I promise.
Nicole: Okay. Can you really be there? I mean, are you really gonna be there tonight?
E.J.: Wild horses would not keep me away. So, go. Relax, okay? Wait for me. After all, they do say anticipation is half the fun.
Nicole: Thank you, E.J.
E.J.: For what?
Nicole: No one's ever done anything like this for me before, and it is so sweet.
E.J.: I'm doing this for both of us. I think it's about time we really got to know one another.
Nicole: Oh, E.J.
E.J.: Now, I want this to be the most memorable weekend for us.
Sami: Forget it. Just forget it. You know, I can't even focus on months or weeks because I don't even know if I'm gonna make it through the next day.
Rafe: You know what? You're gonna make it as long as it takes, okay?
Sami: Oh, really? Great. Thanks for the pep talk.
Rafe: See, from where I sit, it's all about attitude. Now, you can either go one whining and crying like a baby, or you can make the best of things.
Sami: Make the best of things? Gee, I don't know why I didn't think of that.
Rafe: You said you wanted to get away, right, so that E.J. wouldn't know about the baby. That's what you're doing! You have nothing to do here except kick back and relax. You get to get away from the headaches of everyday life. Who wouldn't want that?
Sami: Ohh. I get it. So I should be grateful and appreciative and maybe start looking at it like a vacation. You know what? This hotel has no room service, no views, no amenities, and a really obnoxious staff!
Rafe: No amenities, huh? What about that fabulous color TV right there? What about that?
Sami: [Scoffs] How could I forget? The TV. You're right. It's beautiful! Except for that all it does is play stupid football because that's all you ever watch, is stupid, boring, lame, uninteresting football!
Rafe: Thank you so much for reminding me because there's a great game on right now actually. [Television turns on]
Marlena: [Gasps] [Grunting]
Person: Don't make a sound.
Marlena: Who are you? What do you want?
Person: I want to know where your daughter is. You tell me right now, or you're dead.
Kayla: You're right. I'm sorry. No questions. I should have known better.
Steve: It's for your own protection, sweetness.
Kayla: Why am I not getting a good feeling about this?
Steve: Listen, I'm just doing some basic, run-of-the-mill P.I. work. That's my job, right?
Kayla: But you're keeping it under wraps.
Steve: Yeah, we are, and for good reason.
Kayla: "We"? Meaning you and who else?
Kayla: John Black? He's the one you're working for?
Steve: Wait a minute, here. Listen. John hired me to help him track down the mayor's killer.
Kayla: Steve, no!
Steve: I knew I shouldn't have told you. I should have kept my big mouth shut.
Kayla: Yeah, that would be better. As long as I don't know, it won't be a problem? Are you kidding me?
Steve: What I don't need is you freaking out about this right now. Come on, baby. Look at me. I'm not a schoolteacher. I'm not an insurance salesman or something. This is what I do. This is my job right now.
Steve: I'm sorry, baby. I'm sorry I get so defensive.
Kayla: Yeah, maybe -- maybe a little.
Steve: I just don't want you second-guessing my choices. I told John that I would help him, and that's what I'm gonna do.
Kayla: No matter the consequences.
Steve: The consequences will be the mayor's killer will go to jail and Sami will be free to be with her family.
Kayla: And what if you don't -- what if you don't catch him? This is the guy who not only killed Marino in cold blood. He went after Sami because she knew too much. Do you understand the kind of risk that you're taking here? [Television roars]
Rafe: Okay, what is your problem?
Sami: [Laughs] My problem is that I hate football.
Rafe: That's too damn bad.
Sami: You know, this is not fair. You got to watch all day yesterday. Can I please just watch what I want to watch for once?
Rafe: Okay, you know what? Go ahead. You watch whatever garbage you want to watch, okay? Be my guest.
Sami: All I want is some peace and quiet.
Rafe: All right, you want peace and quiet? Great. I will give you peace and quiet because I'm not gonna say one more word to you, okay? Ugh. Turn off my football game in the last corner. Why I put up with this, I do not know.
Sami: Rafe. I just... want some sunshine. Just to feel the sun on my face and the wind and -- just to get some fresh air. And I know you can make that happen. Can't you think of a way? Have you ever considered that maybe -- maybe the killer isn't even after me anymore. Maybe he's given up. Maybe he realizes that I've disappeared, and he knows he's not gonna be able to find me.
Rafe: These people -- they don't give up. They don't stop trying, okay? They only become more determined and more desperate.
Person: You gonna tell me where she is, or do I have to hurt you?
Marlena: I don't know where Sami is.
Person: Don't lie!
Marlena: I'm not lying to you. I'm not lying. I -- she was scared. She left town, and I haven't heard from her since.
Person: I don't believe you.
Marlena: How can I tell you something I don't know?
Person: If you want to live to see her again, you'll have to do a lot better than that.
Man: It's one of our most luxurious cabins.
Nicole: Wow. It's beautiful.
Man: I take it there will be someone joining you?
Nicole: Yeah, my, uh -- my friend will be here shortly.
Man: Very good. In the meantime, the fireplace is ready to go. Shall I start it for you now?
Nicole: No, I think I'll wait, actually.
Man: You'll also find a double whirlpool tub in the bedroom, as well as a private spa on the deck and, of course, a full assortment of movies on demand is available at no charge.
Nicole: You know, I don't think we're gonna be watching much TV, but thank you.
Man: Right. Well, that's about it. If you think of anything else that you need, just call the concierge.
Nicole: Thank you so much. Have a nice day.
Man: Thank you very much, miss. I hope you and your friend enjoy your stay.
Nicole: Yeah. Oh, E.J. you have an incredible daddy. You know that, sweet pea? Okay. [Laughs] Ooh. [Purrs] Oh, yum! Oh. Oh. "For you and the baby. The two of you mean everything to me. See you soon. E.J." How did I get so lucky?
E.J.: She's still not picking up. The signal must be poor out there.
Stefano: Such a worrier.
E.J.: Hey, sweetheart. It's me. Will you give me a call when you get this? I just want to know you made it up there safely, okay? Be there soon. Bye. You know what? No.
E.J.: I'm not gonna be there soon. I'm gonna be there now.
Stefano: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait. What do you mean now?
E.J.: I must be insane letting her go up there on her own, for God's sake. I had a very nice romantic weekend planned away with her, just her and I, the two of us. And then I decide to go and let you spoil it. I don't know what the hell is the matter with me.
Stefano: I'll tell you what is the matter with you. You have your priorities all screwed up.
E.J.: You think so, huh? My priorities are Nicole and our baby.
Stefano: To provide for Nicole and that baby.
E.J.: I must be out of my mind. I should have gone up there with her.
Stefano: I may have made a mistake. [Sighs] If you are not interested to work with me and work for me --
E.J.: Fine. All right, all right, all right. Okay. Okay. I'd like to work for you. I accepted the job. I'm just a little bit frustrated at the moment.
Stefano: I hardly noticed that.
E.J.: Okay. Fine. All right? Can you just please tell me exactly what is going on? What do you need me to do?
Stefano: All right. There is no time now. I will fill you in on the plane.
E.J.: The plane?
E.J.: The plane? Where are we going?!
Steve: Come on, sweetness.
Kayla: Don't try to placate me. I do not like this.
Steve: What, me having a job?
Kayla: This isn't just a job. This is you going after a man who shot the mayor in cold blood and then tried to kill my niece.
Steve: I would think you would be more anxious to have him found.
Kayla: Why would John call you? And why would you want to work with him in the first place?
Steve: Why not? 'Cause he's a little strange? Why do I care?
Kayla: He's more than strange. He has some serious problems, not to mention the fact we have no idea what Stefano did to him or how it's affecting him now. But we do know that he was Stefano's trained killer. And now he wants you out hunting one?
Steve: Come on, baby. That trained killer thing was a long time ago.
Kayla: Oh, yeah. That's supposed to make me feel better? Come on. He is a loose cannon. And you can't predict what he's gonna do next.
Steve: You know, they used to say that about me.
Kayla: Oh, stop.
Steve: Come on, baby. Listen. The bottom line is I think his heart is in the right place. He wants to help Sami and Marlena. That's all. And I want to do the same. So, you gonna back me up?
Sami: You're saying he's just gonna wait until I come out, no matter how long that takes?
Rafe: Yeah. If the cops don't catch him, that's exactly what he's gonna do.
Sami: Come on. That is crazy. He's gonna give up eventually. In fact, I bet he already has.
Rafe: All right. Sami, why don't you listen up here. Why don't we go through a little hit man 101, okay?
Sami: Hit man 101?
Rafe: Yeah. Guns for hire -- they are exactly that. They are hired, okay? They don't quit until they eliminate their target.
Sami: He already did that.
Rafe: Yeah, and you saw him do it. Do you see the problem there? Do you get it?
Sami: No, I don't get it!
Rafe: Okay, here's the problem then, okay? This guy, this hit man, he is unemployable because there is a witness. No criminal is gonna hire him until the witness -- I.E. you -- is eliminated, okay? So this guy is desperate. He wants to get rid of you. And he will do that at any cost.
Person: Last chance. Tell me where she is, or I start getting rough.
Marlena: Why are you doing this?
Person: You know why, 'cause your nosy kid can I.D. me. And we can't have that now, can we? The question is, what's her lovely mother gonna do about it? [Groans] [Telephone dialing] [Cellphone ringing]
John: Yes, Blondie.
Marlena: Hello! He--
John: Are you still there?
E.J.: Argentina. What the hell is in Argentina?
Stefano: I will fill you in on the way.
E.J.: No, no, no, no, no. You will fill me in right now.
Stefano: All right. The one thing I can tell you now is that one day when Giovanni and his little brother and sister are older, you are gonna be very grateful to know where your father's assets are, well, hidden.
E.J.: And there is no other time --
Stefano: No, the time is now, all right? And you will find out soon enough.
E.J.: [Sighs] Bloody hell.
Stefano: You know, you accepted my offer to work for me. If you are going to be petulant and unprofessional --
E.J.: O-okay. All right. Look, fine. I will go with you. I will go with you to Argentina, all right?
Stefano: [Sighs] I'll wait for you in the limousine.
E.J.: Fine. I'm gonna call Nicole, tell her I won't be coming.
Stefano: Make it quick.
Nicole: Mmm. [Sighs] Where are you, E.J.?
E.J.: Hey, sweetheart. It's me.
Nicole: You're not lost, are you?
E.J.: No. No, I'm not lost. I tried to call you a little bit earlier, but, um --
Nicole: I know. I know. I-I tried to call you, too. But this cabin, it's all the way up the hill, and it's totally secluded and romantic. You're gonna love it.
E.J.: Look, I'm, uh, I'm still at the mansion.
Nicole: What? You haven't left yet?
E.J.: No. Darling, I-I need to go on a business trip with Father to Argentina.
Nicole: Argentina? You're kidding, right?
E.J.: No, I wish I was kidding. Believe me. But it's -- it's business, and he insists that it's urgent.
Nicole: Well, how urgent can it be? Can't you go next week?
E.J.: No, I already tried that. He says we need to go now. You know, when I accepted the position of counsel for the company, there's a lot of responsibility I took on and --
E.J.: I'm really sorry. I'm really, really sorry. You know, I took this job for us, you know, for our future, for our family. I wanted to be able to provide for Johnny and you and our baby.
Nicole: All we need is you.
E.J.: I promise I'll make it up to you.
Nicole: You better. You got me all in the mood for nothing.
E.J.: [Chuckles] Well, I will take care of that when I get home, all right? In the meantime, why don't you just relax?
Nicole: Up here? No. Alone? I mean, this place is meant for two. I'm just gonna head back.
E.J.: Okay. Look, I promise I'll make it up to you. We'll go there again next weekend. Listen, I got to get going. My Father's waiting outside.
Nicole: Okay. Safe flight. E.J...
E.J.: Yes, darling.
Nicole: E.J. Hey, are you still there? Hello?
E.J.: No? Battery!
Nicole: [Sighs] I was gonna say "I love you." [Inhales sharply] Ow. [Breathes deeply] Oh, God. [Exhales deeply]
Rafe: So you understand now, right?
Sami: Yes, I understand. I'm not dense. I get it. If I left now, I wouldn't just be putting myself in danger. I'd be putting my family in danger, too.
Rafe: That's right. Now listen, one day, hopefully soon, this will all be behind us, and you will get to go home. So, what happens then?
Sami: You mean, how do I keep hiding the baby, keep protecting him from the DiMeras? I have no idea.
Rafe: Well, you better get one and soon.
Steve: Well, I guess your silence is my answer. I'm gonna have to do this without your support.
Kayla: Steve, wait. I think if I hadn't lost you once, I -- it's just those memories haunt me. And I think that I overreact whenever I think that you may not be safe. It's just that I love you.
Steve: I love you, too. Come here.
Steve: I'm sorry, baby.
Kayla: For what?
Steve: For saying I could do this without your support. It's not true. I mean, without you by my side, this is all meaningless.
Kayla: I am by your side. Sorry I worry.
Steve: Listen, let me tell you something. If I find this guy -- and I will -- I'm gonna bring the cops in for backup. Okay, nothing's gonna go wrong.
Kayla: I'm gonna take you up on that.
Kayla: So, what do you got in there, or is it really such top secret?
Steve: Well, I guess I can trust you.
Kayla: You guess?
Steve: Here we go. All right. Here's the dude we're looking for.
Kayla: Oh, a police sketch.
Steve: Shh. Shh. Shh. As described by Sami... right here... in this database. We need a picture of a face that matches that one. All we have to do is find it.
Person: You made a big mistake, Doc, very big.
Marlena: No, wait. Wait. Think about this for a second. See, if you kill me, you'll never get to Sami. And that doesn't make any sense, does it?
Person: What I want is her exact location. And if you're unwilling to share that, you're a dead end. I might as well kill you.
John: Not if I kill you first.
John: Step away.
Sami: You're right. I have to figure out a plan. And I will. But you know what would really help me do that?
Rafe: Afraid to ask.
Sami: If I could just get a glimpse of sunlight. I really think that would help me clear my head. And, you know, then I could figure something out.
Rafe: Oh, my God. You are like a broken record.
Sami: Please. I'm just asking for a glimpse of sunlight. And then, maybe, it'll be easier for me to believe everything isn't so dark and depressing and hopeless.
Rafe: All right, fine. But just for a minute.
Rafe: Oh, my God.
Sami: Oh, thank you. So, how about it? Is -- is the coast clear?
Rafe: Appears to be.
Sami: Then I can really look?
Rafe: Just for a minute, okay?
Sami: Yes! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. [Sighs] Oh, it's so beautiful. And look at that -- the sun. And the sky is so blue.
Sami: Hey, what's that over there?
Sami: Well, it looks kind of like, um, a church spire.
Rafe: That's exactly what it is. It's the church and convent of the holy cross. The nuns used to run an orphanage there when I was a kid.
Sami: Used to?
Rafe: Yeah, not anymore. Just a few of the sisters still around.
John: Step aside and maybe I'll let you live.
Person: Sorry. Not into negotiations.
John: Neither am I.
Marlena: John! No, don't shoot. Don't shoot. Don't shoot!
John: Too late.
E.J.: Stupid phone.
Stefano: Elvis, we need to go.
E.J.: Would you just give me a second, please? I'm in the middle of calling Nicole.
Stefano: Look, forget it, all right? Do it later, okay? We have no time to waste. Come, come, come.
Nicole: It's okay. E.J. and I have a lifetime of romantic getaways. It was just a thought that -- oh! Oh, God! Oh, no! Oh, no, the baby! [Crying] Oh!
Hope: What he needs most is psychiatric help.
Chelsea: He's not crazy.
Nicole: [Crying] I need your help right now.
Brady: I'll be there, okay?
Nicole: Hurry, please, Brady.
Kate: I'm being released. That's a good thing.
Daniel: I can't let you go.
